I see you through the flood See you through the fire See you through the storms-a-raging
❧
There was someone he had to punch in the face, but before that, he had to visit his best friend.
When he told his parents he was off to visit a friend at their house, they freaked out. Yoru never saw them act like that. There were theories, plates and a few elemental sparks flying before it settled that Yoru will absolutely have to bring gifts with himself for everyone that might be present. Now it was time for him to freak out. He did prepare one present on his own with a completely different purpose, but after a few hours of arguing, getting the oven to ignite, and losing the argument pathetically, Yoru was pretty much packed up.
He had a bag in one hand, full with a bottle of wine, a neatly wrapped bouquet of lilies and some boxes of chocolate, for a father and a mother respectively. There was an entirely different package of gift in his pants pocket, but that was only for the eyes of the receiver to see.
The only win he could gather and wrench from his parents’ sweaty hands was that he refused to dress in any kind of formality for the occasion. When they suggested collared shirts, he literally scorched the one his mother was holding up for him. A black shirt with a skull motif on the front, hidden under a warm orange hoodie and the same colored scarf as well as a pair of black pants was what he choose, and his parents would not be able to stop him with their overenthusiastic worry about visiting a friend for the first time. He even kept his hair in its usual mess, not like it could be tamed with any kind of brush even if he tried – and oh, did his mother try.
Arriving to the place made him reconsider his choice of clothing as he paled after seeing the estate the GPS brought him to.
Was Ryuu always a friggin’ rich boy?
That... actually made a lot of sense if he thought about it, but the point was that he didn’t stop to think about it. Orange eyes were wide as he stood a bit further away from the gate and tried to glance past above it at the building itself. A classic Japanese style of house, but definitely a rich one, which told of an old and traditional family. Yoru was getting less and less sure of himself, which was a first. If he felt ever out of place somewhere, this was it...
His breath puffed a cloud into the cold winter air as he huffed, trying to hype himself up for the meeting. Well, strictly speaking, he was only here to visit Ryuu as he was advised to stay home while he was healing after... Yoru growled. Right. He was here for him, and he wouldn’t be stopped by intimidating rich standards.
He adjusted his scarf a little lowering it under his jaw. The cold air wasn’t at all bothersome for someone with an internal heater, and it was already proving to be a bit much around his neck. Steeling his resolve, he walked up to the gate and pushed the button of the bell he could find near it.

Post by Ryuusei Igarashi on Jan 22, 2019 13:33:56 GMT -4
Dreams breathe life into men. The stars... I'll reach them.
It was late into the night, probably around three or three and a half in the morning, and the day was the fourth of January. In his healthy state, this would be a time in which Ryuusei would still be awake – afterall, he is a night howl. It was when the moon and the stars were out that Ryuu’s brain was the most active and so he usually could be found with a little light in his room turned on, helping him see the music that he was composing, the poems he was writing, the books he was reading or the videogames that he was playing. However, Ryuusei was still far from healthy… and this was quickly growing to be one of the worst nights since the operation. ~~
So, will I be able to go home tomorrow?, Ryuusei Igarashi asked, the rain still pouring outside and his face bruised from the fight with Nick that had happened. Minato, could I ask you and your wife to step outside for a little bit? I would like to speak with Ryuusei alone for a few minutes. The doctor, which name was Taki, was the one that had accompanied Yaso since her coma and was a close friend from Minato’s childhood – if you saw Minato Igarashi walking in the street during his younger years, you would most likely see Taki Kishimoto walking besides him. Hiroko nodded, kissed Ryuusei on the forehead and then stepped out of the room, her husband leading the way. What’s going on, Taki-san? the boy asked, confused. Yes, he had puked a lot of blood and was feeling terrible in the alleyway, but after being admitted into the hospital and receiving first care he was feeling pretty normal. Taki’s voice was clearly different than his usual happy self, displaying his more serious and concerned side. Burnt tissue on the left side of your body, the metal I had to put into your ankle a few months ago in order for you to be able to walk and run without problems, multiple marks across your body, a scar on your right hand that appears to be from a stab wound… Not to mention those deformed ribs that I made sure to not even show to your parents. And now this.Sitting in a chair next to Ryuu’s bed, Taki threw the folder he had on his hand onto Ryuu’s lap, who opened and tried to make sense of it. To put it bluntly, if you had showed up here one hour later you would probably be dead. What? – Ryuusei immediately turned his head from the papers he was reading to Taki – What do you mean? I feel fine and I’ve just been here for a few hours. After the first care and a little nap I was ready to go out, I just haven’t left because no one allowed me to.Taki simple showed his cellphone screen to Ryuusei. The teenager’s face went blank, shocked by what he was seeing. No… No, that can’t be. Why does it say there that it is December 2nd? It’s the 29th of November, my sister’s birthday is two days away!Your sister’s birthday was yesterday, Ryuusei-kun. This is your fourth day here, you’ve been sleeping ever since the operation.W-Wait, wait a minute there, what are… what are you on about? I-It’s raining outside, I’ve just foug- I’ve just let Nick escape, that was a few hours ago!
Taki extend his arm, holding Ryuusei’s hand – the boy was shaking compulsevely. It has been raining non-stop since the 29th… Previsions say that it will only stop next week.B-But… Wait, w-wait, let's, let's o back a bit. Y-you said operation? I-I feel good!Ryuusei then looked down. He hadn’t done so since waking up from what he thought had been a little nap, but was in reality a long-long post-operation sleep. Perhaps he unconsciously knew what happen and idn’t want to accept it. WIth his free hand, he lifted his hospital shirt. As he saw what was underneath, his breathing pattern and heart rhythm skyrocketed. It was big vertical scar that came from a medical incision and it was still healing. It went all the way from the lowest part of the hypogastric region to the highest of the epigastric area. You were in surgery for almost 10 hours. Your insides were almost scrambled eggs and you lost an unspeakable amount of blood. I actually don’t know how you managed to arrive here conscious and on your own to feet. Unvolutary tears began running down the boy’s face while he held on tight to Taki’s hand and looked at his own body. My deduction was that this was bound to happen sooner or later. Your fight the other day was just the final blow that made everything explode, even if you didn’t feel like you were getting hit that hard.Taki made a long pause. There was only silence in the room. Ryuusei was the one to resume the conversation, doing so in a weak tone. So, due to the drugs and heavy medication I'm not feeling much pain, only woke up now and I just assumed that I had just rested for a few hours… My parents must’ve been so worried…Ryuusei-kun, I hope that you understand that this was your body begging you to slow things down a lot. I know you and I understand how you think, that if you decide to do something you it must be all out or nothing. I’ve felt like that during my medical studies, so I can see how you got into that mindset at Yuuei. But if you keep this pace up, then… Then next time you might not arrive here in time, do you understand?Yes… Y-Yeah, I do…~~
He yelled in pain, screaming for his parents. Hiroko and Minato ran into the room at full-speed, worrying sick about the only son they had at home. The first nights since he came back had been like this, but since then he was being able to sleep fine and making quick progress in his recovery. So why this situation after close to a month of his release? It was simples, actually: he decided to not take his pain killers that night. When his parents asked why, Ryuusei gave a simple and honest reason. The pills make me feel different and Yoruhi is coming here tomorrow, so I want to be myself at 100%.
Part of Minato just wanted to punch the hell out of his son, but instead he just hugged what he clearly saw as a copy of his childhood self mixed with the heart of his wife. It was a tough night, one with barely any sleep. But Ryuusei didn’t take one single pill. --
THE NEXT MORNING
--
It was the first time someone was visitng since the fight with Nick. It made sense. When asked about by Rin and Yoru, Ryuusei just lied and said that it wasn’t a big deal, that he had gone home just a few days after the fight with only minor injuries and just didn’t reply to the texts because he just felt like chilling. To anyone that knew Ryuusei, such reaction from the boy wasn’t weird at all so there wasn’t really anything to suspect. Minato and Hiroko also played along, following their son’s wishes to not reveal anyone the real extends of his injuries. Since Decemeber was the month of festivities, Ryuu was able to keep this lie on solid ground: everytime he was asked to go somewhere or if he could receive someone at home he would just say that he was heling his parents or away to visit family members. Once again: something that didn’t raise much suspicion taking into account the context. The boy just didn’t want to worry everyone. But now it was january and the excuses couldn’t fly anymore, so when Yoru suggested to come over Ryuusei actually encouraged him – afterall, he missed his best friend. Ryuusei was just beggind the Gods that he didn’t have any visible pain attacks while Yoru was there, being that he didn’t take the pain killers that he was supposed to be on until february. The door bell rang. Yoruhi had arrived. Minato was training at the family private dojo, so he didn’t hear anything. If he did he was sure to be the first one to answer the door. So, Hiroko decided to be the one going outside, telling Ryuusei to keep sitting on the living room couch. The gate opened and, in front of Yoruhi, appeared Hiroko Igarashi. The woman was going to turn 46 this year, but by looking at her one could’ve never guessed that this was her age. Her long blonde haired was strong, her skin and lips were soft and her deep blue eyes shining as saphires. If she was this beautiful at that age one could only wonder how she looked at a younger age. The other noticeable thing was that she wasn’t fully japanese: while her father was japanese, her mother was from Europe. This also meant that Ryuusei wasn’t fully japanese himself, having a grandmother that was from another country… did he ever mentioned that to anyone? Standing at the same height as Yoru, Ryuusei’s mother spoke to the boy in a warm tone, one that was completly distinct from the one with which her son always talked. You must be Yoruhi, right? We’re so happy that you’re here! – she hugged him, even if he wasn’t expecting such a pleasant welcome – Ry always talks about you! I’m his mother, you can cal me Hiroko. It’s a pleasure to meet you, she said, doing a small bow. My dumb husband probably forgot the time, so I’m going to go and strech his ears in order for him to go greet you! You can just go ahead and enter the house, Ryuusei should be in the living room. Please make youself at home!Giving Yoru a big smile, the gate behind them now closed and with the conversation over, Hiroko began to graciously walk towards the dojo, leaving Yoruhi free to walk the stone path to the mansion’s entrance. I see you through the flood See you through the fire See you through the storms-a-raging
❧
Yoru never really questioned why Ryuu stayed home for so long or refused to accept visitors for the month of December. It was the month of preparations for the holidays and the new year, and he figured the boy might be busy with family business on top of healing. He thought he was just taking some time off to be with his loved ones, which Yoru could fully understand. That, and he refused to think something else might be going on. But he needed his best friend, and January was the most he was able to wait for. Luckily, Ryuu seemed to be free as well, and he could finally come for the fated visit.
Man, he was still floored by their house. It was a freaking palace!
After ringing the doorbell and waiting for a few minutes, Yoru found himself faced with a woman of a soothing appearance. He half expected a butler or maid to invite him in, but he quickly learned it was his best friend’s mother that opened the door for him.
“Yes, ma’am!” He said as soon as Ryuu’s mom greeted him, but surprise made him stop in his tracks when he received a hug right away. Angling the bag and the bouquet of flowers he was holding away so not to be crushed by the hug, he stood a slight bit awkwardly as he was unable to reciprocate the gesture. Even if he did not have his hands full, he would have been too awkward to hug back, and by the time she pulled away to continue talking, Yoru could feel his ears turning red.
“Hiroko... -san.” Honorifics were not exactly something he was used to, but there was no way to drop it with Ryuu’s parents. “I-I am glad to meet you.” There was a crack in his voice from the embarrassment he could still feel creeping up in his throat, but he willed it back down quickly. She seemed like a warm person, much warmer than what Ryuu appeared to be on the surface. He was not fooled though – he knew his best friend was at least as kind as his mother.
He could only imagine what all Ryuu said about him to his parents...
Oh wait he should probably say something. What is it people usually say when going for a visit?
“Y-yeah, thank you for having me.” Yes, something like that. By the time Hiroko started walking toward the dojo, Yoru realized he missed his chance of handing the gifts over... He will just have to do that once Ryuusei’s dad is around as well. He can wait, in that case. Awkwardly, bag and bouquet still in hand, he scurried to the main entrance and then kind of stopped there.
Is he allowed to walk in? Hiroko did say he could. But damn, this was a rich house...
Oh, to hell with it!
Opening up the door, he peeked then stepped in once it was obvious he wouldn’t be ushered out by an angry maid or someone else standing on the other side. He would look around in wonder, trying to gauge what kind of people the members of the Igarashi family were to live in such a house. If there was a place to put the outdoor shoes like in every traditional Japanese house, Yoru would diligently exchange his sneakers to indoor slippers left there for the guests. He would step forward carefully, much unsure than how he usually threaded anywhere else. It was still the house of his best friend, and un unfamiliar territory at that! He had to fight the urge to look through every part of the house to search for memories about the family.
Eventually, he would arrive to the living room, to greet his friend with a big smile, gaining confidence upon seeing the familiar face. Happy and excited like a huge brown puppy that saw his owner again after not meeting for so long.
“Yo, buddy, good to see you!” He would try to make sure not to damage the flowers or the bag he was holding as he reached out a fist to bump against Ryuusei’s own. “How’ve you been?”

You don't need a dream or even a tomorrow Just live
A few moments after his mom had gone to meet Yoruhi at the gates, the main entrance door of the Igarashi household was being opened again - this time, by his best friend himself. Yoru would probably be surprised by the lack of butlers or employees - afterall, it was pretty common for such a wealthy family living in such a big mansion to have, at least, one or two. This, however, was not the case for the Igarashi's. Since Minato and Hiroko didn't have a job, they were the ones that handled everything, dividing all the household duties between themselves and leaving Ryuusei to only have to worry about his own bedroom and helping them when so was requested. The only thing close to an employee was Hideo, an older man that Minato knew since he was a child and that acted as a personal driver for the family when one was needed. This old friend of the family lived with his wife in the neighbourhood - and in a house Minato bought him as a gift - so Yoru wouldn't see him either. Who Yoruhi would see upon reaching the living room would be exactly who was he expecting to see: his best friend, Ryuusei Igarashi. He didn't look sick, but he also didn't look 100% healthy - there were things that he couldn't hide and his physical appearance was one of them. He was paler than usual and the dark bags under his eyes from the lack of sleep were significally noticeable. Even if it didn't look like he was weak, it would definetely look like he was tired. Hey - he said with a little smile, extending out his arm to meet Yoru's fist-bump, even if not with much strenght behind it - You look good, he added, a compliment just in order to not have to verbalize that he missed Yoruhi and that he was glad to see him again. Ryuusei could imagine how confused Yoru probably was, especially due to how well Ryuu knew the boy. Since Ryuusei never talked about his family, house or wealth, coming in and taking all this information at once could be overwhelming to someone from outside, Ryuusei guessed. It wasn't like he had that many people coming over: besides of Rinkusu, Yoruhi was now the second person ever that Ryuu had invited over. The blonde was simply wearing a silk pajama set, light-pink in color. It was his house, so he really felt no need of changing clothes just because someone was coming, especially when that someone was who he considered to be his best friend. Now those were words that Ryuusei would never think about saying before joining Yuuei. I've been good. Playing games, reading, playing piano... Y'know, the usual.
He started to get up from the couch. He wasn't able to resist the urge of grabbing his stomach while doing so, but he was actually able to stand up pretty smoothly. What abou-Interrupting Ryuusei, an even deeper - yet surprisingly cheerful and warm - was heard approaching. I'M HERE!Oh no... Ryuusei could only mumble while looking down, knowing exactly what was about to happen. Standing at a little more than 2,00m tall and weighing almost 120kg, Minato Igarashi was the embodiment of a mountain. Even while wearing the kimono from his earlier practice, his muscular and athletic build was pretty visible. His hair was somewhat long, dark brown - but already with a few white strands - in color and pushed back into a ponytail while his eyes were the same colour as Ryuu's. In fact, Ryuusei's facial resemblance to his his 47 year old father was evident, even if their body types and personalities were complete opposites. His footsteps hadn't even been heard - a testament to his years of training and hardwork - but there he was in the living room, standing in front of both Yoruhi and Ryuusei. Welcome to our home, Yoruhi! - no honorific, of course - It's your home too now! Isn't that right, Ry? Scrubbing Ryuusei's hair with one of his hands, Minato loudly laughed while looking at his own son expression of embarassment. Ryuusei sighed. Yeah... This is my father, Yoru. His name is-My name is Minato, Igarashi Minato! And what is it that my eyes spy?He was looking at the flowers in Yoruhi's hands. With a quick movement, he grabbed them with his free hand. With his big hands and strenght, one could assume that such movement would be violent, but it was quite the opposite: despite being so large, Minato had an uniquely strange delicacy in his movements. He smelled the flowers and smiled. These are beautiful, my boy! My heart is truly grateful! Thank you so much, I'll take good care of t- Wooah, wooah, wooaaah! Before being able to finish his words, Minato began levitating. As he ascended to the ceiling, Hiroko appeared from behind. I'm sorry kids... He ran off as soon as I said little Yoru had arrived. Ryuusei's father is... well, he's like a child. From above, Minato retorted. I'm pure! The word is "pure"!Hiroko pressed the palm of her hand against her forehead before looking at both Yoruhi and Ryuusei again. I'm going to make something for you both to eat while my husband showers. Why don't you show your friend upstairs, Ry? Ryuusei nodded. Good, I'll bring you the food when it's ready then - she smiled at them before looked up - And you're coming with me. As Hiroko stepped away, Minato flew behind her while still grabbing the flowers Yoruhi had "given" him. As they disappeared in the hallway, the kept talking to each other. I sometimes really don't understand why I married you...Because you love me like this!... Shut up.And, just like that, it was only the two students in the living room once again. Ryuusei didn't even know what to say after that... experience. He just tried to give an explanation for part of it. My mother's Quirk, she can, uhm, make everything she touches levitate... Yeah...Yoru had just seen first hand how Ryuu's father and mother were. Ryuusei wondered what is reaction would be. I see you through the flood See you through the fire See you through the storms-a-raging
❧
Yoru did not let himself be discouraged by Ryuusei’s less than healthy appearance. Not even mentioning the fact he was wearing pajamas, which Yoru only ever did when he was ordered to stay put during an illness, the dark bags under his eyes and the paler than usual complexion was a sign that he was not alright. Yoru tried to act as if it did not faze him at all. After all, he was here to make Ryuu feel better, not to put salt to injury by telling him how bad he looked.
“You look good.”
“Better than you.”
Well, so much for that plan. But still, the smile that followed could as well make it seem like a friendly jab or a joke, so he would be surprised if Ryuu took too much offense to that.
“Man, getting to your house was a surprise.” He looked around the living room as if admiring the furniture and the walls. “I never knew you were on the wealthier side of the world. Hope I won’t need to call you Little Master from now on.” He allowed himself a grin after Ryuusei mentioned he had been chilling at home, living to his hobbies instead of doing any work, which was exactly what he had to be doing.
He did not miss the slightly shaky movement as Ryuusei stood up and grabbed at his stomach, but it was so smooth Yoru took a few moments to comment before he was distracted.
By a giant man.
Appearing and greeting him out of nowhere.
Yoru was definitely average sized among his peers, and Ryuusei was already growing on him by more and more centimeters by the day, it felt like. Now he could see where he got the genetics for the height at least, even if they barely resembled in their body types. Probably the only reason he did not take a cautious step back from the father was the surprise still evident on his face. He was staring at Ryuu’s father as if Santa Claus just appeared in front of him. He glanced at Ryuusei and mouthed “Ry?” his way, and made sure to remember the nickname for later.
The flowers were snatched out of his arm so gently and smoothly that Yoru had to wonder if the man standing in front of him was actually a guy his size behind the illusion of a giant. His nimbleness was a telltale sign of training and skill, and even Yoru with his raw streetfighting experience was able to notice such a thing.
But once the man started levitating, Yoru really took a step back. “Whoa!” It was time to stare at Ryuu’s mother, and yet again, to turn to his friend and mouth the words “Little Yoru?” with confusion before turning back to the scene before him.
Their little banter as they walked – in the father’s case, floated – down the hallway was the icebreaker for Yoru, and he burst into a quiet laugh after trying to hold it back for no avail. Grinning yet again back at Ryuu, he darted off after the parents. “Ah, well.” He stopped behind them, holding up the bag he brought with him, containing the wine and the box of chocolates. “Nice meeting you two. And uhh, thanks for having me.” He handed the bag to Hiroko if she was willing to take it, and then with a little wave – that now that he looked back at it, was entirely childish – he hurried back to Ryuu’s side.
“Your parents are a lovely bunch.” He said, grin never leaving his face now that the initial shock of the first meeting was dealt with. “I can see that she is capable.” But it also made him wonder. “Did your quirk come from your dad then?” He had definitely not seen Ryuu levitate anything before, so that must be the case here. He barely thought about that though, because genetics was a topic best left to a smarter person. It was obvious Yoru found the parents nice and lively, so whatever critique Ryuu was worried about, did not come from his best friend. “So, up we go?” He asked, mentioning to the general direction of upstairs where Ryuu’s room must be. Yoru still had one gift with him that needed to be handed out, but that would directly be to his best friend only.

You don't need a dream or even a tomorrow Just live
Even if Ryuusei wanted to give some type of ironic remark to Yoru's aknowledgement of the Igarashi' wealth, he couldn't - the appearance of both Minato and Hiroko made sure of that. It was a shame though: Ryuu was surely capable of coming up with something funny when it came to Yoruhi... he had missed those interactions over the last weeks. Man, I'm getting mentally weak, he often told himself when it came to thinking about his friendship Yoru. Watching that all unfold... it wasn't surprising. No, not at all. It had always been like this and his parents weren't ones to pretend to be someone else just because a guest was there, they were that genuine. Perhaps it was for the best. Ryuu envied them, in some way - how happy they were, how they loved each other... how they seemed to be able to forget about Ya- “Your parents are a lovely bunch.” Yoruhi had just came back from a little dash towards Hiroko. He had given Ryuu's mom a bag with chocolate and wine. The older woman had accepted it kindly, giving Ryuusei's friend a lovely little scold on how there was no need for such thing and how she was going to prepare the best lunch ever for him as a showing of gratitude. Minato, on the end, tried to reach Yoru's hair in order to mess with it. It was his own way of putting into action the words his wife had expressed. Hiroko made sure that didn't happen. Yeah, they're just like me, right? Ryuusei replied with a little smile. For the next question, the answer was also a simple one. No, believe it or not my father is actually Quirkless.Yoruhi wouldn't be the first or last person to think that Minato's physique could only be possible due to some type of Enhancement Quirk... Hell, even Ryuu didn't fully understand how it was possible when he was younger. My mom needs to touch anything or anyone she wants to levitate, just like I need to do with who or what I want to make invisible. Since she was probably one of the first people to develop a Quirk our guess has always been that the main genetic code behind it is actually the touching part, not the actual effect. He made a brief pause. Then... But who knows? Maybe I'm adopted, he finished with, lightly shrugging. With that conversation over, Ryuusei took Yoruhi's cue and lead him upstairs. He was trying his best to not make his best friend suspicious, but there were subtle things that HE wasn't able to totally control... being in bed for almost more than a month does that to your body. His legs were weak, so walking up the stairs was slower than usual and he couldn't stop himself from trying to discretly support his left hand on the wall in order to guide him and give him a little bit of extra strength. Reaching the upper floor, his breathing was heavier than usual. So, yeah, this is the second floor. My room is over there, he pointed to the left and began walking in that direction. Here, the house kept the same traditional vibe, but with some additions. Instead of paitings, the walls had many family photos: Ryuusei, Yasu, Hiroko and Minato across many points in time. Not only this, but this second floor was squared and its middle opened almost like it was a balcony, which allowed one to look at the inner garden that was at the center of the mansion and accessible through the first floor. Expecting Yoru to be right behind him, Ryuusei opened the door to his room. Like the rest of the house, it was... well, it was quite big. Enough for it to have a classical piano, three huge bookshelves that could very well be at a library, a study desk with his computer and games and his bed, which was more of a mattress at the floor level. Even with all of this (and some more) both Ryuusei and Yoruhi still had enough room to freely walk inside in any way they desired. However, Ryuusei immediately went for the chair that was in front of his desk. He needed to sit down, otherwise his legs would surely give out. He did it as naturally as possible, trying to also shift Yoru's attention from his body to other things. I was going to ask you before: what about you? What have you been doing? It seems like forever since I last saw you.Grabbing a little ball he had on his desk, he threw it in Yoru's direction for him to grab. At that time, one thought didn't even cross his mind: Was all of his medication still near his bed?Notes: I MISSED THREADS WITH YORUWords: 801.Tags: Yoruhi Honookaen

Best. Lunch. Ever. “Can’t wait!” He answered for Hiroko before rushing back to Ryuu’s side, skillfully dipping out of the way of Minato’s hand, although Hiroko made sure no hair-ruffling would occur right now. Not that Yoru’s hair could get any messier.
“Pft, exactly like you.” It was strange, but even if Ryuusei barely resembled his parents, he could still see some traits of them in him. His mother’s “no shit” attitude and his father’s mental strength. His brows shot up in surprise upon the mention of the father though. “Quirkless, really?” Upon further explanation, he hummed, but then Ryuu joked about being adopted, and Yoruhi could not fight the urge to bump his knuckles against the top of his best friend’s head. “Nah, you’re as straight-faced you your mom. There is no way you are anyone’s but theirs.”
As they started up the stairs, Yoru continued the conversation about genetics and family. “We are an elementalist family, so to say. Everyone can control some kind of natural element. Both my parents, and...” A pause. “Yeah. So in our case, the genetic uhhh part is more straightforward I guess. You guys are weird.” The toothy grin it was said with made it obvious he meant no harm about being ‘weird’. His leg was tapping on the steps as they walked up, impatient at the slow pace, and not missing the leaning for support. It was subtle, but Yoru had an eye for subtlety in the case of things he held dear.
But up on the second floor, he was distracted by the family photos, and kept behind just a little. He recognized most of the people on them. Ryuusei, Hiroko, Minato... But there was another person that showed up on nearly every picture, someone Yoru had yet to meet. He did not worry about it too much – this person could be out of the house right now, hence he was not introduced, but there was something nagging at the back of his mind. His own family’s photos had an extra person on them, a mirror image, and he had to wonder if he should be more worried by the absence of this one. Curiosity was sparked. Just who was she? He made a mental note to ask about her later.
His head perked up and he stepped back in line with Ryuu just as he reached and opened the bedroom door. “Whoa! Little Master’s room is big!” And then Yoru was inside, checking out everything. He was much like a new pet in an unfamiliar environment, he had to check out everything up close to familiarize with the place. He rushed to the desk to see the computer and the games, walked in front of the shelves to check out a few of the books’ titles, investigated the piano – because hell he had never seen a piano so close, not counting the one at Music Night because he have not paid attention to that then. “Eh, y’know, nothing special either. Aside from attending the boring and less boring classes, we had the usual combat classes. Geist is a slave driver, I’m telling you!” He grabbed the ball that was thrown his way, and rolled it around in his hands a few times. “And the city is the usual. I am probably the only one doing runs in this weather, so there is no competition when it comes to parkour.” He threw the ball back at Ryuusei. “Haven’t met with Daichi again either.” Nor the others, he added mentally, but Ryuu was not aware how many of his past gang members could be around. His runs in the city were still more of an excuse to try and find Asaze out there.
Reaching the final destination in touring Ryuusei’s room, Yoru flopped down on the boy’s bed and looked around it. Eyes fell on the medicine bottles next to it, and for a few moments, he only stared.
Those were a lot of bottles for some simple injury...
He frowned, and then fire sparked in him. Right. Ryuusei had stayed home for an awfully long time.
“So.” His voice was low as he picked up one of the medicine bottles to check the label, wondering if it was anything familiar. “You’ve been good, huh. Playing games, reading books? The ‘usual’?” Bright orange eyes looked up at his best friend, playing with the bottle of painkillers between his fingers.

You don't need a dream or even a tomorrow Just live
Ryuusei did not even protest earlier when Yoruhi decided that pressing his fist against the boy's head was a good move. Hell, he didn't even say anything about his own family being called weird - it was obviously a joke, but regularly Ryuu would joke back just in order to keep the banter going on. Instead, he just smiled or casually laughed at his best friend attitudes. Part of it because it wasn't Ryuu's style to be vocal when meeting someone after a long time... another part was because of how low his amount of energy was at the time. Low energy and the pain that was starting to kick in: the consequences of not taking the medicine on the night before were, slowly, beginnign to show. Once inside his bedroom, however, the conversation was another one. If you call me that again I'll literally kill you in your sleep.A cold voice and a dead serious tone. There's some things that even physical pain cannot stop one from protesting loud and clear. For anyone else, this would've sounded like a serious threat... to Yoruhi it would probably be the most hilarious thing he had heard all week. It was funny seeing his best friend analyzing the room so thoroughly. It was like seeing a curious cat suspecting of his new home... even if Yoru had a personality more fitting of a dog: loyal and naively cute. It was funny: the duo really was able to interchange their personalities in different scenarios. Maybe that's why they got along so well. I'll race you in a few days - that was a way too positive estimation - Afterall, I'm the best parkou...est? Parkou...rer? What do you guys even call yourselves? He catched the ball as Yoru threw it with some force, probably in response to Ryuusei's silly question of what the hell one calls someone who does parkour. But then his best friend mentioned Daichi and that... that sparked interest. Daichi... Ryuu repeated to himself. Ryuusei never asked about that, about the little run-in. Mostly due to how it ended, of course, but it still left him curious. The talks of gangs, Yoru's past... Thinking about it, it wasn't something that Yoruhi mentioned at any time. Ryuu spoke nothing of it because the timing wasn't right... ... Oh, and also because the conversation was about to take a seriously bad turn. Shit, he could only say between his teeth as he realized what Yoruhi was grabbing from the little table near the bed. Not only that, he was being funny in a creepy way about it. So that's how it feels to hang out with me, huh?, Ryuu could only think. He had to react to quickly, so quickly he got up from the chair. Bad idea. He immediately felt the pain on his abdomen from that horror-movie like scar that was slowly healing, a pain strong enough to make him lean forward and lose his step for a brief moment. How fast could things get out of hand... Yeah, of course - he replied while getting back his posture, breathing heavy despite trying to cover for it - Playing the piano, training with my father, helping my mom here at home... Like you said: the "usual".He was now right in front of Yoruhi. One hand on his shoulder, the other on the bottle he was holding. Ryuusei couldn't even notice how shaky his own fingers were from how numb he felt. That was just for a... for a stomach ache I had a few days ago, just... still feeling some of the effects. No need to look at me like that.He smiled. A sad smile. He never had any problem with lying, but doing it to Yoruhi... Damn, it sucked. Especially since, knowing him, there was no way that Ryuu was leaving that room without telling him what exactly had happened. Notes: Yikes.Words: 653.Tags: Yoruhi Honookaen

I see you through the flood See you through the fire See you through the storms-a-raging
❧
Yoru indeed was not worried about the potential death threat coming from his best friend upon being called Little Master. “Yeah, yeah. As if you had ever seen me asleep.” He said with a grin, indicating that, indeed, he took it all as a joke even if anyone else would have frozen on the spot by the cold tone. There was no coldness that could freeze Yoru’s fire over.
Going on another race with Ryuu actually seemed tempting, and not because he would be able to flaunt his growing experience in the art of parkour. Simply because he would be able to do what he loves the most with him, and that is always time spent in the best way. He threw the ball back with a bit more force, because he knew Ryuu was teasing. “It’s traceur, for your information. Or tracer, if you stutter on the French word. Whichever works, really.” It was a mistake people made often, but not like Yoru was going around telling everyone he was a traceur out of the blue either. Most people would not even know what it meant anyway.
Friendly banter and lectures in linguistics were forgotten when he flopped on the bed and pulled up a medicine bottle to confront his best friend. Something was not adding up, he thought to himself. He was not quite sure what, and he was not the kind to deduce anything from simple signs, really. But he was instinctive, like how a wolf knew when a storm was coming and a pack member was in danger.
He, of course, did not miss the hurried movement with which Ryuu stood from his chair, nor how heavy his breathing had become. Yoru’s bright eyes were watchful, boring into Ryuusei to see into his soul if needed to. He really hoped it was not needed. As the distance between them was cleared, he had to raise his head to keep up the eye-contact.
He could feel his friend’s touch on him like a rumble of thunder in the night. “Stomach ache”, he echoed without any conviction in his voice. The label of the bottle in his hand was covered up by shaky fingers and a sad smile, but Yoru already knew what it was. He did not return Ryuusei’s smile, instead he grabbed against the hand on his shoulder, holding it in place flat against the fabric of his shirt, so Ryuu would be unable to back away.
“These are painkillers.” he almost shook the bottle under Ryuu’s touch. “Some of those are antibiotics and to stop inflammation. I haven’t even the faintest idea of the rest. But these, I know... I’m no medic, but I’ve seen them enough to know.” When they were injured. When all of them were injured and no one could heal the wounds, only medicine, raw and bitter. He stood to look at his friend easier, though even with a slouched posture, Ryuu was taller than him, those few centimeters more obvious now that they stood so close. He held the hand against his shoulder more firm, so the boy would have no room to step back. The air warmed around them as Yoru’s quirk was reacting to a storm barely contained within.
“You can barely breathe.” He hissed. “Don’t think I didn’t notice. You’ve always controlled your breathing like no one else because you need it for your quirk to work and now you’re like you have ran a marathon and it won.” His voice was angry, a low growl pushed through his teeth, but his eyes plead. He hated liars, and the last thing he wanted was to be forced to hate Ryuusei.

You don't need a dream or even a tomorrow Just live
He hated when the fire turned cold, especially when the reason for it was his inability to fully trust in the capacity of those flames to keep him warm. "But who can blame me?", the fragile boy asked himself often, a question made up to hide his own weakness and turn it into fake strenght. The sun once shined inside those four walls and Ryuusei had allowed the freezing night to take its place. What guarantee could the teenager that doesn't trust his own shadow have that he wouldn't, once again, betray a source of light? Yes, that was the real problem: not the power of that hopeful blaze, but the fear of being the one responsible for turning such beacon into mere dying embers. Because, at the end of the day, that was Ryuu's burden: making himself invisible, but also anyone else that he touched; anyone else he reached out for. Yoruhi's hand grabbed his and the smell of incense interlaced itself with the odor of medicine and desinfectant. Despite having to look down on his best friend, it was obvious which one of them truly was on the ground. Shame. That's what he felt like as he listen to Yoru. He had been so stupid. Lying? What was he thinking? Why not tell the person he would give his life for the truth? Because the truth would take away his smile. But there he was, being lied to and, despite that, with the opposite of a grin on his face. "Why didn't I scream for help immediately?", he asked himself. Because you are not able to.That was right - that was his other burden. Not being able to breathe, to speak out, to call for help. Everytime it felt like drowning, yet no one knew that. He never told them. But... But if he was breathe, wouldn't that mean that it was impossible for the ones he touched to disappear? If he was to talk, wouldn't that mean that, contrary to what he believed, there was no need to fear pushing them away into an abyss that he created? Exactly. He really was his own worst enemy: digging holes for himself just to have to get out of them. Sometimes it was that seductive voice, sometimes it was his paranoid mind. Whichever the case, it was always him - both monster and human, both himself. He had come to terms with this, but living with his own soul was still a painful struggle. This situation was a prime example of this. It was, however, a lesson. If you don't trust in me, if you don't trust in yourself - if you don't trust in us - then trust in the one you love. His right hand moved to left one laying on Yoruhi's shoulder, placing it atop of the hand that was making sure that Ryuu wouldn't get away from there. Yeah... It seems like it really won, doesn't it?He was looking down and his voice was different. Still cold, but... harmonic, peaceful. Like a realization had been made. Hopefully Yoruhi understood this and would allow Ryuu's right hand to carefully remove the warmth of Yoru's fingers from his left hand. If such did happen, Ryuusei would make two steps and lower himself, sitting on his own bed. Once his best friend turned around, Ryuu would look at him and talk. This time with no lies. I saw Nick in Tokyo. I followed him into an alleyway and we fought. I had him, you know? I really did... He was forced to run away and I... A pause and then a silent inhale followed by a loud exhale before continuing. There was something wrong with me, I felt it straight away, this... This sharp pain, it was strange, it didn't make sense. He never hit me hard, I was controlling all interactions, I was way ahead of him, but... But all of the sudden I was on the ground puking my own blood uncontrollably. I woke up a few days after that in the hospital and... And I had this.Slowly and still shaking, he took of his silk pijama shirt, exposing his naked torso. There was no need to say anything, Yoruhi's eyes would draw to that monstrosity straight away. A big scar that went all the way from the lowest part of his hypogastric area to the high-end of the epigastric region. It was still fresh, ugly, not fully-healed, resembling a mark that a samurai would've had after being cut down by a rusty longsword during a bloody massacre. After a few seconds, Ryuusei would continue to explain himself. Apparently all of my insides were already in shambles. From the military camp to the training to... Well, everything. The fight was just an anticipation of the inevitable and, according to the doctor, something that was almost blessing. If this had went unchecked for more time then... He nervously played with his fingers while now avoiding to look Yoruhi directly in his orange eyes. Just like there was no need to directly address the scar, there was also no need to complete that last sentence. I didn't tell you anything because... I-I don't know. I... I think I did not want to worry you, I... I didn't want you to look at me differently or push you away by sharing my problems with you. I'm... I'm sorry, I was being dumb... and selfish. And that was that - now it was the long seconds of waiting for the fire to explode. Notes: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.Words: 926.Tags: Yoruhi Honookaen
