| Haruuhi Hajimari Radio Tower | |
Today was the day! The day that Haruuhi finally took over the radio station that Rin had put together for her along with the Support Studies class. Instead of playing low, dull music to help Haruuhi with her quirk, the student planned on turning the radio station into a real news casting station! A U.A exclusive Radio Channel that reported on everything related to the school... She thought about turning this into a club ever since the idea started to turn in her head, and now today was the day she would finally make that announcement!!
Haruuhi stepped into the radio room while sucking in a deep breath, her helmet tucked under her arm as she moved to the chair and plopped herself down. She would pull a few wires from her pocket, and use them to connect the helmet to the Radio relay station. With a quick flick of her quirk, the deathly boring music would stop, and a moment later the radio would have highjacked all radio waves within the school. Soon, every radio within U.A's border would be projecting her voice.
<"Hello and Good Morning U.A Academy! My name is RadioTower and I hope everyone is nice and rested because I've got some big news for you! As of today you can tune into channel 105.3 fr a U.A Exclusive Station! You'll get to hear all kinds of juicy news from all across U.A, and then get to listen to some really killer tunes! I want to extend the invitation out there to anyone interested in helping out with this news station. You can meet me in the Radio Club, room 124-B, come on in and get all that juicy intel you need, or pop on in for a quick interview!
I'll be waiting for you, U.A cuties!">
With that Haruuhi's voice would put, but instead it would then get replaced by that years top songs, recapping the year as they approached new years.
Now all she had to do was wait... people might not show up today, but as she went back on the air every 15 minutes or so, she would send out regular reminders to those that had tuned in after the initial message highjack.

so put that ring away and cash it in She'd been curled up under the blankets with a fantasy romance, cursing her actively sinking ship once more. The wrong guy had claimed the hero's heart for the third time that chapter. Their mistake had been leaving it claimable to begin with. Afternoon sun washed her room in a lovely golden glow. Light spilled freely sans glass. With a well-placed tap of her narrow palm, a visual cutout appeared on her wall. Home remodeling hacks on a budget, she'd say. So this was what an easy life looks like. She took another sip of her tea. Her peace shattered into dangerous little pieces as the speaker on her desk screeched at top volume. She swore she felt blood dripping out her ears. The fuck was that banshee playing radio star? She slammed her book shut with a huff. Despite the rude and nonconsensual snap back to reality, the announcement did prove itself intriguing. Some go-getter went ahead and scraped together a new group, the kind that didn't immediately repulse her. She knew the school had the financial resources to support student activities, and she had been looking for a way in. But cooking was boring, robotics was dumb, and martial arts would leave her hair in a mess. Not that she'd tried. Or even attended a single meeting. She didn't need to, though, she just knew. This, however, was a different story, because stories were what kept it alive. Saucy scoops broadcasted through the air? Count her in. Except, there were way too many goody two-shoes on campus to let her blare anything with bite. People called it "harassment" or some shit. Anyway, it was worth checking out, and who knows, maybe the ringleader wasn't afraid of dirty gossip. Cut forward and Heidi was busting open the doors. "I'm here for an interview!" she declared. Yanking the nearest chair, she sat herself across the radiocast and propped her elbows on the equipment stand between them, chin staged by two delicately folded hands. "So, let's get started. Who are you and what inspired this club?" Rather than reach for the mic that was slightly too far, she spun the whole desk around until it landed on her side. Driving home the fact that the tables have turned. "Also, let's work on your radio ads." She held up a knowing finger, eyelids drooping in conceit. "Too many words. Keep it simple. Otherwise your listeners will tune out, ya feel me?" Mentally, literally, it was all the same. People didn't want to get bogged down by nonsensical hello and good mornings or lackluster promises of juicy news. Speaking of, this gal had better not be spouting baseless tropes when it came to gathering scandals of substance. "We've set a pretty high bar already with all that talk about 'juicy intel.'" Let the plural possessive not go unnoticed. She leaned back, draped an arm around the chair's support, and eyed the redhead off the tip of her nose. "Whatcha got? I'm actually dying to know."

What. The. Hell.
What kind of broadcast was that? For somebody hoping to pass for a news reporter, 'Radio Tower' could use some serious polish. For a start, her 'introduction' left too many questions unanswered. For one, who the hell was Radio Tower, and who named themselves after a building? She'd have to suggest some improvements after she was through with them. And then there was the most pressing question of all:
Who was stepping on her turf?
As far as she (and most of the student body, in her eyes) was concerned, there was only one reporter on campus, and it sure as hell wasn't some mast doing the job. She had half a mind to go in and shut the whole thing down - a plan that lasted all of two steps down the hallway before she realised the teachers wouldn't let that slide. She paused in the middle of the corridor, arms crossed and eyes furrowed. She couldn't destroy the station or its owner... But perhaps she could make the most of the situation.
Yeah. The girl had mentioned a club, right? Emi wasn't in a club, and more to the point, a club implied multiple people. Multiple employees for her, maybe. She could use more noses to find the next scoop, after all. Trying to juggle finding the biggest news and becoming the best student was a little more work than she had expected.
Thoughts of unofficial slave labour carried her to room 124-B. The door was already open, and curiously, she could hear somebody running their mouth inside. She raised an eyebrow as she appeared to the two in the door - though it'd be no surprise if they were both too preoccupied to notice. Her eyes fell on the speaker first.
She knew that hair, and she knew that skin. Either would be hard to forget their own, and both together made the girl unmistakable. If only she'd actually known her name. Come to think of it, she recognised both of them from Geist's Insanity Brawl, otherwise known as a combat class. At least she could say that she was vaguely familiar with Haruuhi - she'd made an effort to learn all of her classmates by name, which was a good point for the redhead. On the other hand, it meant that she had been painted with the same brush Emi had used for most of 1-B - surprisingly unremarkable for the next generation of heroes. Still, maybe this was the girl's attempt to finally break out. She would have applauded the efforts if they were in robotics or singing, but in communications? That was going to prove an issue.
"She's not wrong," Emi announced, once Bubblegum Braids had said her piece. "You kinda skimped out a lot on the details. Which is pretty surprising, considering how much you managed to say. Fortunately, help is at hand!” She strolled into the room, a smug smirk already finding itself at home. An introduction was, in her eyes, unnecessary. If any of the students – especially some aspiring journalist, and doubly especially once of her classmates – didn’t know her name and face by that point, it said more about them than her.
“Although if you needed my help, you could’ve just sent a text. I guess I get it. I get shy too, sometimes. Rarely, but it happens.” She offered a nonchalant shrug as she stepped further in, pulling a chair from one of the tables. With a devilishly playful eye trained on her classmate, she sat herself on the end of the table. Depending on how they chose to look at it, she had either attached herself as the third wheel or made herself the head of the table.
One leg crossed the other, and folded arms rested in her lap. The questions came, fast and furious. “So! We’re doing interviews, right? Cool. Who okay’d all of this? What equipment are you working with? Is there a budget? What rules is the establishment pushing on you? Who else is trying to run this show? Who's your friend? What’s your schedule, and what’s your hook?” And finally, the only question really worth caring about: “How are you going to sell this to me?”

| Haruuhi Hajimari Radio Tower | |
The music Haruuhi selected was a rather hard hitting mix of rock, country and pop. Of course it had to be, since those were the most likely to keep people tuned into the station. The music only played for about 15 minutes however before Haruuhi’s voice would come up across the radio again. She would repeat her earlier message before going over some lighter school news, starting with rumors of who would be the first student to become the number one hero, who might be dating who, etc.
It was nothing too detailed yet, as Haruuhi had yet to gather much intel on the school that wasn’t… well ‘Which student would become the next villain’.
“Now coming up, we’ve got two unreleased tracks from Alana Petite and the weather coming up in just a moment~” With that, she could cut and do a segment about the weather before playing the promised songs by Alana Petite. She’s used her quirk to catch the songs a week prior, and figured it would be a great way to get people's attention… considering no one could get these songs yet.
It wasn’t long though until someone showed up at the station door, just barging in and forcing Haruuhi to switch back t music rather promptly. She looked up to the girl with a look of mixed shock and fright. She just came in yelling that she was ready for an interview, and that hadn’t been exactly what Haruuhi meant by that… The girls name… she’d done some research on her after the fort brawl, it was.. Uh… Heidi-chan wasn’t it?
“Hello Heidi~ I thought you’d come. My name is Haruuhi Hajimari, Vice President of Class 1-B, I…” Haruuhi paused as everything started to move around! Haruuhi quickly grabbed her helmet off of the table, lifting it up in the air to prevent the wires from getting pulled and yanking it to the floor. She nearly shot Heidi a menacing look, having put so much work into this helmet but let out a sigh when the girl immediately followed with “Let’s work on your radio ads”.
Haruuhi’s cheeks started to turn red… and the more Heidi corrected her the more Haruuhi was silent. Then, to add insult to injury, another girl showed up, supporting Heidi’s words in correcting her. Emi Ryoko Tachibana of her own class 1-B… she thought that if someone from her own class showed up, maybe they’d have her back, but both girls only rained down on her, and Haruuhi didn’t say a word, only gripping her helmet tightly as the two girl spoke.
“Hey! I know how to run a radio station okay! I’ve got 20 at a time playing in my head day in and day out! I was just trying to grab some attention, and I very clearly did that since you two are here.” She would express which was quite uncommon for the girl as Haruuhi barely spoke at all, and if she did she usually stuttered. She couldn’t help but pout at the two girls as she put her helmet back down onto the desk, clearing her throat as she crossed her arms and leaned back into her chair.
“I want to start a News club, and I don’t want to focus just on the radio. I want newspaper, reporters, photographers. Personally, my quirk is best suited to the radio and any information that you can find on a computer. “ She would stop and then point one finger towards Heidi.
“You had that camera during the capture the flag training right? You’re good at taking pictures quickly and catching that perfect moment I’m assuming? And Emi-chan? I don’t think I’ve seen or read of what you could do.
Miss Tanaka from Literacy class is going to be our Supervising Teacher, she’s given me a lot of space to work this out. We’re working with whatever equipment Support studies can give us, but I”ll need to talk to the principal for some kind of printing machine if we manage a newspaper, budget, no idea, I’ll crunch the numbers once the principal posts his budget report, rules are simple, don’t be obnoxious and remember we’re heroes, there’s only me, here’s my schedule, and im working on my hook. Oh, and as for my juicy intel, lets start with reviewing why so many of our students are suddenly turning into villains~” Haruuhi never sounded more confident than she did in that moment. She was in her element, and these two girls came into her turf guns blazing. She didn’t need to be president of the club, but this Radio was her baby, and if anyone tried to steal it away from her she wouldn’t go down without a fight.
As the girls spoke, a small dog head would suddenly appear on the desk, it’s blue metallic ears perked up as he looked from one girl to the next silently. Haruuhi placed her hand on top of his head much like she would a normal dog.
“Sorry boy… I didn’t mean to activate you, I just got a little heated.” She would assure the mechanical animal softly. She would then glanced back to the girls with a much gentler look to her.
“Still interested?”

so put that ring away and cash it in This beat-heavy trash sucked ass, in her mild opinion, but she took solace in the fact radio was dead. For her own sanity, she’d left hers behind in the bedroom. She’d most likely be pulling her hairs out if she’d done otherwise. Subjecting herself to that vanilla schoolgirl drivel would’ve made her do a one-eighty. By the time she entered the building, more tolerable material aired. The snippets she gathered from the scant radio presence tottered over dollar store shit. She released a heavy sigh. Cute attempts at stirring up drama, but none of the stuff was built to last. Then, as she approached the door, the young announcer finally shared something of value. Unreleased tracks, she said. Duly noted for future use. Her entrance had startled the little mouse. Her brows furrowed. A visual sweep of their headquarters revealed they’d crossed paths before. That funky helmet belonged to the mecha jockey back at combat class, the slow-to-start thumb twiddler who had some bite after all. They’d never actually done formal introductions, with Papa Geist unapologetic about his priorities. Yet this girl knew her name. She had to admit, being directly addressed did throw her off, but given the robot hijacking, RF hogging, and access to songs that’d yet to hit market, she had a sneaking suspicion this redhead had a knack for sticking her nose where it didn’t belong. She smirked. A respectable talent for sure. “Vice prez of her class, too. Hot damn, we’ve got an ambitious one here.”Attentively poised and professional, she sat stock stock still giving unsolicited advice and didn’t miss Ruuhi’s heart nearly stopping. Quite an emotional attachment to that helmet, it seemed. She’d have to ask about it later. But for now, they had more pressing matters to attend to, namely a backseat driver getting ahead of herself. Heidi recognized that nose and the way it soared above the clouds. And she’d caught enough selfies to put name to face. Emi, the spoiled brat on a screen. Her jaw clenched as she remembered the way she tactlessly shoved her digital ego trips down everyone’s throats. It wasn’t a big shock to see her here, but as the blonde soon confirmed, she didn’t seem like the collaborative type. As those glossed up lips rattled off narcissistic bullshit, Heidi couldn’t completely contain her annoyance. Her mouth pulled into a hardset line, and her eyes were no longer smiling. "Great timing!” She swiveled to face the thorn in their sides. “We were just establishing roles. We're going by first-come, first-serve, so that means Ruuhi here is president" her hand waved at the redhead, "I’m vice," she swept a flowing gesture above then down her torso, "And you're—" an upturned finger targeted the blonde banshee, "Janitor." A stony smile tossed in for good measure. She leaned back, chair pivoting on two legs, and threw her hands behind her head. "We're gonna be neck-deep in stories and investigative notes, so you've got the most important job here."Then, the club’s founder took off running with her spiel. She brought a rigid hand over her lower face, making a big show of trying not to laugh. So this girl sat way out of the loop in terms of familiarizing herself with Emi. What a riot. She snuck a peek at the aforementioned vlogger before returning her gaze to their ringleader. So she’d noticed the recording back in Geist’s arena but had mistaken her antics for photography. Time to step on some toes. “Actually, I was filming. I’m all about those perfect moments. Plural, ya feel?” Suddenly her nails got a surprise inspection. Without sparing blondie a glance, she elaborated, “Need to gather video evidence? Leave it to me.” Motion pictures didn’t exactly suit their medium, but they could always yank the audio. Still, she’d much rather be dancing on the ground than sitting cooped up in this hole. The scope of Haruuhi’s vision also spanned wider than she’d first thought. Even better. She slapped the table with a sharp thwap and beamed at her latest partner in crime. “I like where you’re going with this big picture!” She’d have to finagle her way out of newspaper duty, but for now, hyping up the radiohead was her best bet at getting her hands on that budget. Allowing herself a self-satisfied smile, she placed elegantly stretched fingers just below her neck. “Field Operative Heidi at your service. If you find anyone suss who needs to be scoped out, I’m your gal.” A flash of doubt froze her face. Teeth pinned her lower lip as eyes flickered downward for a split second. Fuzzy feelings hugged her heart, because for the first time in years, this dumpy old title didn’t bother her so much. Hearing it again wasn’t totally unpleasant. A quick inhale brought her back to her senses. So today’s big question concerned the secret to parenting. She waved an unconcerned hand. “Honey, I bet my hot cocoa stash that if we figure that out, the head honcho will totes up our funding.” Her eyes widened dramatically as she leaned in. “After all, a hero school would be in deep shit if people found out we’re churning out villains.” Another fascinating tidbit jotted into mental reserves. She was so in the zone that she nearly missed the metallic mutt pawing below them. She sprung out of her seat, seized it with both hands, and swung it around like a toddler. “Oh em gee, this is so cute! Ruuhi, where’d you get it? What’s its name?” So small. So precious. They truly did live in modern Japan. She acknowledged that last question with a half-listening, “Uh-huh, uh-huh.” Then she continued to cuddle the critter closer to her chest. “Heyyy, this lil cutie pie wouldn’t happen to come with a hidden camera and mic, would it? Because if not, I know a guy who can get that fixed asap.” With their four-legged friend on the scene, they’d make a formidable foe.

Had they met before? Sure, she’d been in a class with the Cyan Stick, but she couldn’t recall anything that would warrant wiping the smile off her face, to say nothing of the words that followed. She should have been surprised, but then, it wasn’t the first time. Everywhere success went, haters followed – one only needed to look at her uTube comments to learn that. On one hand, the pre-emptive hate meant that her work was spreading. On the other, it meant that she’d already ended up on the girl’s bad side, and she could only guess why.
Could she try to fix that? Probably, but she didn’t have much incentive to. She’d read worse insults than ‘janitor’ on her Instasnap posts that morning, and at least those had been good enough to get a chuckle out of her. She kept her smile up as she stared at the girl. She blinked. Twice. Then she turned her head to disregard her altogether.
“Twenty at a time? Explains why you’d be so set on a radio station, though…” A hint of distaste lingered in her words. Radio was technically a perfectly valid medium, but far from the first she would choose for anything. Then again, was it all that surprising that a former streamer looked down on a channel that relied solely on audio? Another blow to her hopes followed shortly after. Newspaper. She wanted to make a newspaper in 2072. The playful glint in her eye was fading fast. She cast the other girl a side glance. Her attitude suddenly made sense. Who wouldn’t be jealous of the more popular camerawoman on campus? She almost commented as such, but the reveal that the girl didn’t even know what she did was the death knell for her hope. Her. Emi. Unrecognised by her own classmate. By a supposed upcoming presenter.
She wasn’t mad. Just disappointed.
The girl slumped forward, poorly hiding her disillusion as the girl continued. So much for free labour. One of the girls was clueless, and the other was a bit of a cow. She wasn’t going to bother much with the latter – why bother, when the questions she’d heard told that she was just as new to the operation as she was? That left ‘Radio Tower’: a well-intentioned girl, sure, but one that could do with a touch of reality.
And yet, she noticed something. This was probably the most eager – no, self-assured – she’d seen Haruuhi about anything. Granted, she’d never seen the girl outside of class, but half of 1-B had pitiful presence, and the half that were more than backdrop had a hard time finding their voice. Her enthusiasm must have been born out of passion, and while skill and knowledge could be gathered over time, a drive to improve was hard to come by. She could work with that. Heck, if nothing else she could walk out of the room knowing that she’d steered her peer in the right direction. It wasn’t like she was the threat Emi had thought she was, after all.
…Wait, she was still talking? Teacher, budget, newspaper, yada yada. She let the girl finish before she opened her mouth to speak… Only to close it again. Open. Close. She stared at the ground, annoyed. She could think of a million and one reasons to shut the girl’s ideas down, but that wouldn’t do any good for either of them. Constructive criticism – or general politeness – weren’t Emi’s forte. There was a reason why she’d ditched live content years ago; a slip of the tongue could be a nightmare for her brand. The robo-beast’s sudden appearance bought her some time, and briefly rekindled the spark in her eyes. If the other girl hadn’t been so quick to kidnap the thing, she might’ve made a move herself. “Interesting boy you’ve got there… You didn’t buy that, did you?” Her gaze lingered on the machine. She’d only met one robot at the school thus far, and Haruuhi keeping one close to her meant that she was either really good at tinkering or really, really lonely. Possibly both. She could find out later.
First, she had to use the The Sandwich Method – criticism softened by two compliments. “Well, Haruuhi-san, I can see you’re really keen on this news thing! And if nothing else, it’s great to see somebody taking the initiative around here, especially if it’s to inform the masses.” She slowly sat up straight again, tapping a finger against her cheek. As she continued, the words began to flow like water... and then like a waterfall. “But I think a little bit of research would do you a whole lot of good. I’m not even talking about you not knowing that I’m the biggest content creator on campus. I mean, yeah, that’s a problem, but if you want to get into that scene and you didn’t even check out the competition, that’s on you, not me. Just look me up later, if you think I’m talking shit. More importantly, your choice of format. I’ll give the radio thing a pass – if your quirk helps you make the most of it, then I don’t see any harm in that. But newspaper? In this day and age? Really?” The makings of a sneer showed itself, as if the girl had offered her literal rubbish instead of metaphorical.
“Let’s weigh out the pros and cons, shall we? Pros… Er, I guess you’re passionate about newspapers. That’s about it, as far as I can see. In pretty much every other area, something like a website beats out a paper. Start-up cost? What’s cheaper – buying a domain through Squirespace and a year’s server time or buying a printing press, ink, paper, etcetera etcetera? Bonus point: Which format gets to claim they’re saving the trees? Distribution? Getting people to pick up a newspaper is pretty easy when everybody in your target audience uses the same entrance, but it’s even easier to get them to go to a link on a device they’re already carrying. Speaking of target audience, papers are pretty much relics, and most of the people that read them are about as old as them. No offence.”
“Then there’s actually making content for it. A webpage can be as long or as short as you like, while a newspaper has to fill out a bunch of pages once every, what, week, month? And then anything that happens in between your edition is old news by the time you actually print. Ditto for any audience feedback you want to get from people, and say goodbye to getting any corrections out before everybody forgets them. Besides-“ She pointed a finger at the dog. “Something like your bark bot there. Would you rather read a bunch of words next to a static image, or a video showing it getting hugs and pets like the good boy it knows it is? Which brings me to image quality and equipment…”
She held up a palm, as if somebody else had gone on for much too long. “At least, I would, but I think you get the idea. The money you’d spend trying to throw a newspaper would be better spent on some good AV equipment. Camera, mics, windcatchers, lighting, the works. It’ll be a lot less stress.” She smiled, satisfied with her answer… Until she realised she forgot the other end of the sandwich! “Oh. And, er… You didn’t freak out and run away. That’s good! Every content creator needs a thick skin, or you’ll get eaten alive.”

| Haruuhi Hajimari Radio Tower | |
These two girls were driving her absolutely insane! All Haruuhi wanted to do was curl up into a ball in the corner now and have Robodog chase them out! He obviously reacted to that distressed emotion as the pup would place his head up onto her lap. It was at that point that Haruuhi was able to take a deep breath, placing her hand on top of his head and relaxing a little bit. She’d close her eyes for a brief moment, letting the room go quiet again, taking in as much information as she could from the two girls before opening them up again and speaking up.
“Heidi-san that really wasn’t very nice… if we’re going to be establishing this club together, then we don’t need to be at each others throats. Miss Emi-san is on the same level as both of us, since we’ll be the founding members of the club.” She said in an attempt to sound calm and very matter-of-fact in her approach. Really, just a few weeks ago and Haruuhi would have run out that door crying by now… however, living with G had really tempered her and cracked away at the walls she’d built around herself.
She didn’t say anything more to Heidi off the bat though, as she seemed to be the most on board with this club idea so far. It sounded to her like Heidi just wanted to get out there and dig up as much dirt as she could on their fellow students… and while that would definitely help out in terms of a radio channel, it could also be extremely damaging to them and to the students being snooped on. Instead she would turn to Emi when she seemed almost turned off by the idea of having Radio Channel’s stuck in her head. She gave a bit of a frown before speaking up.
“It’s uh… my quirk by the way…. My body acts like a literal radio tower… 24/7, so I hear everything normal people don’t. Every time someone sends a text, boots up a laptop, every time the radio station changes in a passing car… I feel and hear all of it. That’s why I”m set on a Radio Station, it’s a way that I can constructively channel my quirk all while helping those around me in the event it’s needed. It might be archaic, but it’s a part of who I am, and when everyone is used to the world being so high tech, sometimes a step back can be a huge advantage.” She would clarify to both girls to make sure it was known exactly why she wanted to start this club in the first place, and why she felt so very invested in it.
“Miss Emi-san, Sorry for the confusion but I didn’t mean I didn’t know about your online presence. I meant in terms of your quirk. I just always figured anyone with an interest for this sort of stuff would have a quirk that would lead them here, you know? I read both of your Student profiles, but they made it really, really hard to hack specifics on quirks.” She admitted rather bluntly, stopping dead in her tracks as Emi then started to go off on why starting a Newspaper was a stupid idea. Her face started to turn several shades of red as the hand petting Robo dog would tighten it’s grip, causing the metallic pup t let out a whine as it nudged her. Haruuhi glanced down to the pup and offered a faint smile and a nod. Of course it hadn’t pushed all of her nervousness away, but it was helping to keep her on track.
“Right. So newspaper is dumb, that’s fine. Where I grew up that was the best we could do, beyond using my quirk, to get information. I just immediately assumed… nevermind. Scratch the newspaper idea then. If you’re on board Miss Emi-Chan, then maybe you could be in charge of setting up a student webpage? I’m good at hacking signals, not so much creative content… and Miss Heidi-chan, you’d be our lead photographer and reporter, since that seems to be what you like to do. I can help get us some information that people might not want us to know, or maybe even get the scoop on some actual TV stations and stuff before they release it? I think this’ll be fun, as long as the three of us keep working together~” She said cheerily, forcing up a smile, though her arms would betray her as they could be seen slightly trembling as she tried so desperately to keep herself in check.
What ended up throwing her for a loop though, was the fact that Heidi swooped around the table and picked up Robo dog and began to cuddle the machine just like he was any other biological pup. She had to blink several times at that to make sure she was seeing it right, and then couldn’t help but chuckle softly as Robo dog began to bark intermittently, almost as if he was gently protesting being pulled away.
“Right. This is Robo-dog. I haven’t given him an actual name name yet… He does actually have a few different camera setups in his eyes. He can see infrared and track heat signatures too. There’s about 12 microphones on him so he can pick up sound coming from anywhere around him. He’s got a bunch of other upgrades waiting to be installed too but, I can only handle so many. And uh, I didn’t buy him anywhere I made him actually” She informed them with a now legitimate and proud smile on his face. She’d spent countless hours and sleepless nights putting Robodog together and programming him to be the perfect companion for her… Hopefully he would be just as crucial to the team as any of the girls would be.

so put that ring away and cash it in Up and over soared the snub. She had to admit, she'd really expected this primped up prima donna to fly off the handle. Hats off to her for keeping her cool, but at the end of the day, she was baaad news. Ruuhi seemed like a sweet little thing, the way she shrank into herself at their nitpicking soiree. Still, her diplomacy was cute, and having only run into her once, she had to assume the redhead had a penchant for keeping the peace. These types tended to fall victim to the art of appeasement, in which to keep everyone happy, they were willing to let more assertive types walk all over them. The type of leader Heidi was very eager to follow and sway. But with Emi stroking the other leash, the road to full reign would be a rocky one. She sent back the redhead's unheeded feedback with a blasé wave of her hand. "Just some friendly banter between cofounders," she sighed, throwing an expectant smile at the recipient of her jabs. "We're building rapport. For healthy group dynamics, ya feel?"Thus began the war for Ruuhi's favor. The ability to intercept communications was incredibly desirable for a snoop on the up and up. Heidi didn't need to have that power for herself. She just needed someone willing to do it for her. As the originator of this club, Ruuhi had the most stake in keeping the group alive, which meant she was the most willing to make sacrifices. If she could point those sacrifices Heidi's way, that'd be swell. And it sounded like the walking antenna wasn't above enhanced reconnaissance either. Both brows raised at the mention of hacking profiles. She too had infiltrated school records, but had minimized traceability by peeking only at a certain one. Seemed like Ruuhi had nabbed both of theirs with ease and without a trail. "Hacking student files? Wow Ruuhi, what kind of journalism are you roping us into?" she teased. Then sprang more ear damage courtesy of Emi. That self-perceived tug-of-war slowly crumbled as the blonde brute kept grating away at the poor gal's self-esteem. Petty payback, most likely, for not throwing herself at the floor and groveling for an autograph. She even made a big show of flashing her discontent. From her huffing and pouting and carefully curated frowny faces. Even worse, the victim of her tantrums lacked the spine to shut that shit down. "Brainstorming phase. Ever heard of it?" Heidi rolled her eyes. "Newspaper's got its charm. Cut the girl a break." If this chick was so turned off by literally all their ideas, she was more than welcome to run back to where she came. At least she wasn't a dumbass, she had to give her that. A web platform certainly got the same job done while letting them invest in capital. Capital Heidi couldn't easily get herself. Once Ruuhi's face stopped matching her hair, she found the resolve to swallow the hard truth. Like a true leader, she delegated the hard work to the others, piling most of the substantive stuff onto the vlogger's lap. Heidi poorly hid a gleeful grin behind her hand. "Perf! I'll record the good stuff and hand it off to you, Ms. Content Creator." A two-fingered salute aimed at their newly appointed webmaster. "I have to admit, this webpage stuff sounds kinda complex, but if anyone can do it, it's Emi!" Then a wink. So two votes cast for giving Emi the grunt work. She ignored the mention of photography, since that was not what she'd put on her resumé. Still, Ruuhi looked so excited that it might be worth learning it anyway. She’d have to start studying soon, though. Snapping pics shouldn’t be that different from filming, right? Next, addressing the shady part. "Airing unreleased shit? Love it. But let's make sure we cover our asses first." As hilarious as it'd be to swipe stories from actual stations, Heidi got the feeling Ruuhi, with her stealthy quirk, wasn't used to sweeping her tracks. "Not saying we shouldn't do it—quite the opposite—but we'll have to agree on a game plan if we don't want the big dogs to come barking at us." The last thing they needed was the media putting the pressure on their principal to pull the cord on their operation. Not totally dissatisfied with the way they were headed, she folded her hands on the table and looked both girls in the eye. "We're all on the same page, then. Like Emi said, we'll need AV equipment. We'll draft a quick budget and hand it to the principal. The sooner, the better. You've got a good eye for cameras and equipment, right Emi?" She sent her a closed-lip smile. Meanwhile, the metal mutt sat grouchily in her grasp, almost upset by this nonconsensual arrangement. She nodded slowly at his frankly flavorless name. Robo-dog? Seriously? At least he was useful. She leaned into the his face, almost pressing into those supposed cameras of his. Looks like she wouldn't be getting past this good boy. They were on the same side though, so for now, that wouldn't be a problem. Her lips pursed at the mention of this precious pup being a DIY project. "Homemade! Ruuhi, you've got to bring me next time you upgrade him." Robotics was not her forte, but she was extra curious about those hidden mics stuffed inside him. Wiretapper and gadgeteer. It paid off to get on her good side.

Founding member. Yeah. She liked the sound of that, if the curling of her lips didn’t make that clear enough. It only grew as her classmate explained her quirk. “Unapologetic. I like it. You should do more of that. Suits you.” She leaned back in her chair, head tilted towards the ceiling. Her smile grew as they continued talking; even Heidi’s comments, coated in venom, did little to kill her mood. “Not sure how I feel about the whole hacking part. Maybe don’t admit to that so freely, but it’s not like I have anything to hide.” She paused. Furrowed her brow. “Maybe… one or two things.” The idea of any student with a tech quirk being able to view her personal details wasn’t one that sat well with her, but short of reporting the girl, there wasn’t much to be done. She certainly wasn’t going to ask how much she’d seen – not when Heidi was close by, and seemingly ready to pounce on any weaknesses she exposed. Speaking of which… “Didn’t the robot boy get threatened with expulsion for that? Poking through student files? Would’ve thought that they’d have patched that after the first time.” The smile was fading. Their school’s security was lacking. Somebody would have to submit an anonymous complaint soon…
“But no. I don’t have a tech quirk. Mine’s a lot more natural. Not compatible with a camera, but I learned to make the most of it.” She tilted her head forward and extended her hand outwards. Her fingers curled to hold an object that wasn’t there – yet. Before their eyes, clumps of crystal rapidly formed in her palm, growing outwards and smoothing out to become some sort of thin polearm. The colour and material might have made it a bit hard to recognise a boom mic’s handle as such, but once she added the jagged cylinder hanging off the end, it might have been easier to recognise. Especially to Heidi – the thing was a little too close to her face for comfort. “Never having to carry around a full set of grips, for example.” She tilted the pole away from the colder of the two cohorts, laying it to rest on the table.
“Would you rather I point out all the flaws now, or after we’ve dropped thousands of yen on a printing machine?” She quirked an eyebrow as she eyed the girl, her tone inquisitive but mostly neutral. Mostly. “Besides, Haruuhi-chan is handling it well. That’s good. Trust me, once you start making something, everybody’s going to have an opinion on it. As nice as it would be, not all of them are going to be polite about it. If that was enough to upset either of you, I’d be really worried about this club business.” She paused, offering a cheery grin. “But it wasn’t! Well, not totally. We’re taking baby steps and all. So we don’t have to worry about criticism destroying the team any time soon.”
Fingernails rapped against the table a few times. Her words were very optimistic – Haruuhi’s body told what her voice wouldn’t, and Heidi was throwing shade at her like there was a prize at stake. She could try to solve both of those, but not at the same time, and definitely not on that day. But they had a good foundation, a good set of skills, and most importantly, they’d both seen her channel, so they must have known that she was the most skilled camerawoman on the team.
Which made it all the more confusing that she wasn’t offered the role, but beyond another raised eyebrow, she didn’t seem nearly as annoyed as she should have been. “Not a problem. Making a website is super easy with all the templates. Give me half a day on Squirespace and we’ll have a back end a koala could use, and we won’t really need to focus on that again. More time for us to focus on content. Just send the money for it my way once we’ve got the budget.” She paused, holding a finger close to her cheek. “…We’ll need a name, though. In general, but mainly so we can buy a domain. Any suggestions on that front, or should I leave it until later?” For once, she wasn’t the first to answer her own question. It wasn’t just because nothing snappy came to mind.
…Maybe it was. But also because theirs was a group effort, and that meant taking input from everybody sometimes! Occasionally. Very occasionally. That, and she’d realised that she didn’t need to hijack the whole operation to get its most valuable asset: Getting the news before the news was out. A devious smirk showed itself. “Is it really that easy? Jumping onto news channels and getting intel? …Well, I’m not complaining. The big brass won’t know if none of us tell, right? As far as they’d know, we’re just a trio of extraordinarily talented students. And we are. I think.” Heidi’s skill level was in the air (and almost definitely inferior to hers), but what kind of terrible team player would she be if she mentioned that?
“Especially with stuff like your… Robo-dog. Name pending. Who is going to argue that we’re not capable? Really impressive, by the way. If you’re telling the truth about him.” She leaned forward to peer at the mechanical canine – or rather, marvel. “Can you operate him remotely? Like a drone. I’ve been thinking of getting one myself. That would be great for spying- I mean, intelligence gathering, of course, because we’re a legitimate organisation.” She winked at the redhead as she sat up in the chair. “Or even just getting some action footage. Imagine getting videos or a pro taking down a villain, while you’re half a mile a way and safe from danger.” The girl nodded, several times in a row. “Yeah, I really like this guy. Although… Part of me wonders why you had this ready before you made the news club.” Something close to a smirk showed itself. It seemed that their innocent (by comparison) leader had been done more than her fair share of snooping! Not that Emi minded, of course – that just meant she showed initiative.

Haruuhi kept looking from one girl to the other, wondering just how this whole thing was going to turn out in the end... Those two were either going to destroy this club or become each others best friends. It made her smile a bit as she sat quietly and listened to what they both had to say. That smile began to fade though as both girls admitted to the dislike of her hacking. She brought her hand up to the back of her head and chuckled nervously at those comments.
"Hey hey... I just started at U.A when I looked into everyone's files... I'm just so used to ending up in abusive situations I wanted to know exactly who I was going to be dealing with here. D...Don't worry though I didn't like... do big background checks or anything, just looked up everyone's registration information... it was all public information back then, at least to the students. I haven't looked into anything since then I swear." She tried to assure the girls without going into too much detail about her background. After being abused basically her whole life through various foster families, she was always super careful about those she surrounded herself with. She also had never gone to an actual school before, so coming to U.A was a huge culture shock for her at first, and she wanted to ensure her own safety. Now, she didn't worry quite so much about it, and hadn't done much hacking at all since she moved into G's.
They didn't seem to nitpick at her hacking more then that though, and it was obvious that it had made them both uncomfortable so she was glad when the topic returned to the club and how they could best set it up. It seemed they were all in favor of assigning Emi to make the website and set all of that up for the club, and Emi was already saying how easy it would be for her. She smiled, excited that her little club was coming together nicely!! But now they needed a domain name, and that was something Haruuhi hadn't put any thought into.
"Well... in terms of the domain name, do we want to make it specific to U.A, or will we want to keep accessing it once we've graduated? If we want to keep it solely to U.A and hand off the club when we graduate, then... Maybe something like "yuuei-newsroom" or something. We don't want it t be too difficult for people to find." To be honest, Haruuhi wasn't the most creative when it came to names, hence why her robotic companions name was simply "Robodog".
The girls went back to talking about her hacking, though instead steered the conversation in t he direction of her being able to scoop up news stories before they even aired on the TV stations themselves. They were also pretty fascinated by Robodog, and Haruuhi just went back to blushing like crazy at the compliments.
"W...well, yeah it is pretty easy for me to get into the TV stations... I manipulate radiowaves, so as long as I'm close enough it's jut a question of manipulating my way into the system from my phone. They aren't the most secure places to hack into really, since most places try to air the news they get right away. It's a bit harder for me to quickly get access when I'm far away though. Oh, and don't worry about me covering my tracks, that I've gotten pretty good at. If worse comes to worse, I've fried more than one computer before I gt traced..." She admitted with another nervous laugh, smiling as she glanced over to Robo-dog who was in fact looking rather grumpy while being held by a stranger. He didn't growl or bark, but was trying to push Heidi at leg length. Haruuhi smiled as she finally stood up and went over to Heidi, patting the mechanical beast on the head a few times to calm down the AI.
"Of course I'm telling the truth about Robodog... why would I lie about it? It's not really hard to do when you can remotely access every piece of information on the internet. I also used to be an insomniac until recently so I had plenty of time to dedicate to making him. You're both welcome to come by when I start working on his upgrades. So far yeah, I can remotely control him by manipulating the radio waves I have emitting from him, but my range is pretty limited so I'd still have to be close enough. He also has a black box, kind of like an airplane, so if he gets damaged I can retrieve the information he recorded later. I want to make him a bit more combat ready as well since I'm not the best fighter myself, but that's another story." She explained as Robodog would then bark out in approval, tilting his head when Emi said his name was pending. Haruuhi just offered both girls a smile, feeling a little bit more comfortable with them both now that they weren't trying to show each other up. Maybe all of this was going to work out after-all!
"Okay! So Emi-chan, get me an estimate on that domain name, and what kind of equipment we'll need. I'll present it to the principal and we will go from there. Thank you both, I'm really excited about all of this." While she was still shaking a little bit, it was significantly less than when both girls had first arrived. She was much calmer, and excited to start on this adventure with them. She wanted to become a reporter one day (Along with being a pro), so hopefuly this was going to help her figure out the best way to do that! Her and Robodog were going t make a great team in the future. For now though, the team also included Emi and Heidi, and hopefully that team could last long until after they graduated.

so put that ring away and cash it in Let's recap. What did the school have on her? If, for some strange reason, they conducted a secret background check, already an illegal move, then not much could've been scavenged anyway. Teachers called her Heidi, and as far as she could tell, they knew nothing more, and Heidi's late entrance to the world was dull as hell. Now, in order to rewind even further, U.A. would've really had to dig deep. Like nail bleedingly so. In the worst case, whatever they found would've undoubtedly resulted in a big fat rejection letter, so the fact she enrolled spoke volumes. Nothing to see here. Move along. Ruuhi's foray into the facts kept her poised, ready to fill her with fiction. No hint of knowing passed through her eyes. Maybe this counted as "don't ask, don't tell." With a gentle breeze, she let the focus flutter off her files and onto the girl snooping them. Then a mini twister sucked everything into two piss-colored eyes. "That's the way this world operates, hon." She leaned over the table and propped her chin on two twitchy palms. "Let slip you've got goods and Streisand kicks in." One or two things, she says. The beginnings of a sly smile tugged at her corners. It might've been red herring served cold, but no one had to know if she checked. She spared a glance at the self-proclaimed hacker and knew immediately she'd be no help. Laces tied too straight. She'd left one button undone is all, not too rebellious of a reveal. But a more accessible gray hat sneak might get the same job done. Heidi tapped her chin at the mention of her classmate. "Jinny's mistake was getting caught." The key to success was knowing when to flaunt. Ruuhi had him beat in that regard. Her eyes flickered to said redhead stumbling over her own words, juggling three different priorities that felt all too familiar. Truth. Acceptance. Safety. "Chill, Ruuhi. You gotta do what you gotta do." She crossed her arms tight and exhaled. "Save your sorries for when you're actually wrong."Skill was skill and access was access. "If anything, we should be glad to have backdoors. Who knows what U.A. could be hiding from us students." Since she didn't know the ins and outs of those recent student expulsions, "student privacy" must've been scribbled somewhere in school policy. It was complete bull, but these were the cards they were dealt. And on the topic of cards, Emi's hand bled. Naivete, but more likely arrogance, funded the little circus act in her palm. "'Natural,'" she snorted. Poorly disguised euphemism for pure or better. " As if any of this is." Unsurprising she'd sink to arbitrary modifiers to boost her self-image. That sad reject of a modern art piece hung dangerously close to her face, while she sat still as stone with eyes narrowed deep. "Neat trick. Gives the interviewee something nice to look at for once."To the subsequent quip, she flitted a toxic tongue. Face now scrunched in disapproval, the weight of this commitment kept Emi’s words afloat. Their team. Plural ownership. "I’ve seen teams collapse over less.” She lifted a braid off her shoulder and twirled it. Three made a pyramid. But with a constantly shifting base trying to tug down the top, their foundation was already shaky beyond repair. Whatever pet project they pursued next would boil down to a two versus one, and Heidi had no intention of being the one. But for now, pieces fell to place. Web dev officially got delegated. That was one chore she managed to avoid. Budgetary unknowns still hung in the air, but she didn’t press the matter. Someone was gonna have to step up, and the most desperate of them all waited first in queue. One task checked. The other currently tabled. Next came the name. “U.A. Today. The Redacted. Sneakeasy. The Lens.” She raised a brow. “Honestly, we can pick any old name. People will get over it. The first scoop is what sets the tone. The sooner we get running, the better.” She refused to spend more time mulling over trivial titles when the meat of the operation roamed outside. No one invested further brainpower on the name, so clearly the topic hit a dead end. What did keep its momentum was talk of Ruuhi’s hacking, and at last, everyone was on the same page. A look of amusement crossed her face at the reddening radio quirker before them. “You’re such a hustler, Ruuhi. Asking for our help when you’ve already got it all.” She smiled. Weak against praise. Duly noted. Unafraid of collateral damage on top. Her digital intrusions sounded too good to be true, but she wanted a taste of her best. On the bright side, no one seemed opposed to leaking national news. Consensus felt kind of… relaxing. But it was this kind of complacency that let people waltz through her borders, and danger always followed their agendas. Small hands lightly drummed against the artificial dog’s back. His wiring must’ve gotten kinda funky, because he was twitchy as hell right now. “I can see why he needs upgrading.” When he calmed under his owner’s touch, she pouted. So he came with a cold, metallic heart. Her eyes rolled at the imagery of a drone hovering above a conference table, as if everyone would be too deep in their secrets to notice the whirring camera. “We’ll stick to action footage. Trust me when I say ‘intelligence gathering’ doesn’t need anything fancy.” Air quotes used appropriately here. “People don’t check what they trust.” She threw them both a heavy wink. “And that goes for all of us.”As mousy as Ruuhi made herself out to be, she was clearly capable of pulling nefarious deeds. The blunette knocked together the tips of her braids, thoughts meandering into cybersecurity. She’d have to bolt down the doors even tighter, because it sounded like the only thing stopping the redhead from turning on them was her belief they were all on the same side. A reasonable assumption. Not necessarily a sustainable one. Thankfully, the girl was elbows deep in her optimism. Even better, she finally addressed the budget. Relieved to be spared of any concrete duties thus far, Heidi clapped her hands together and beamed. “And thank you for bringing us here!” Planting her palms on the table, she stood up from her seat while it screeched. “Same time and place next week!” Good talk. Her alibi pool had tripled.
