The heavy sandbag bulged and creaked painfully with every blow. It was as if the poor piece of leather was begging his tortionner to stop. It would be a futile effort; Darren’s wasn’t about to let up. A left shovel hook, a side kick with the right to the midsection and a rising knee hit the sandbag in quick succession, each blow crisp, sharp and packed with power. A lot of power; ever since Semper Fi, Darren had been getting an irritating feeling that he needed to get stronger, though he wasn’t sure what caused it.
BUZZZZZ, went his phone. After ten minutes of non-stop abuse, he finally let the sandbag walk free. Much as a sandbag could walk. His forehead was drenched in sweat and he was panting, despite his stamina ranking among the highest at school. It was rare for anyone to see Darren in that state; he liked to do his training alone in the martial arts room at odd hours with no one to distract him.
After a minute, another buzz went off and with it went Darren, dashing from one side of the room to another. Upon arrival there, he jumped on the wall and kicked off in the other direction, sprinted again to where he came from, dropped for ten squats, rinse and repeat with ten push-ups, ten crunches, ten circle kicks with each leg, sprinting from one side of the room to another with each set without interruption. He only paused after the tenth.
Buzz, went his phone after, again, one minute. He walked to the double ball and started hitting it, weaving his body around to dodge the rebound when it bounced back. Again, this went on for ten minutes.
Buzz. Buzz. Buzz. Just like that, one hour passed, then one and a half, and it got dangerously close to two before the delinquent stopped himself, utterly and completely drained. It was a little past midnight. After settling his heart rate for a few minutes on the bench, he proceeded to sneak back into the dorms. He headed straight for his bed and slept slumped over the covers with his training gear still on.
He was a little sore the Saturday morning that followed, but not as much as one could have expected; ever since the beginning of the year, Darren had got used to the insane rhythm of Yueei High training. Two hours of intense physical exercises were just a spicy workout to him now. Sitting up on his bed, he got his phone out to peep at the latest memes and the latest hero news. There was a reminder on top of the screen. Right, the martial arts club.
He had scheduled a beginner session today. Between Kutsu, Rin and Miku, quite a few people had asked him to teach them the one thing he had a reputation for doing right, hand-to-hand fighting. It helped that Darren was interested in a variety of styles ranging from ground-based grappling to standing striking and jumping kicks.
The session was scheduled for 2:00 p.m., so he had some time. He went for a morning poop, took a shower, schlepped his ass to the cafeteria to eat a gigantic bowl of cereal with milk, three fried eggs and a dozen stripes of bacon with half a can of beans and a toast with butter and fig jam, which was indubitably the best kind of jam ever, and finally headed to the club to make his preparations.
First off were the uniforms. He had asked everyone to come in their UA tracksuit, but fighting practice required a specific set of additional equipment. He went into the storage closet and came out carrying three cardboard boxes stacked on top of each other. The first one was full of 4 oz gloves -- the fingerless kind they wore in MMA -- of all shapes and sizes. Literally; since UA had measurements on hand for costume designs, he asked the principal for a pair of gloves tailor-made for ever single student, with mutations such as Chimmy’s in mind. They were all in that box.
The second one carried protection. Darren made the principal order a hundred plastic mouthguards, the kind that you could put in boiling water and then bite on so its shape espoused the wearer’s teeth. Again, they were of every shape and kind, some bigger, some smaller, with varying degrees of flexibility to accommodate fangs and canines. In the same box were a couple kilometers of boxing tape to wrap the hands and joints in. Their purpose were to hold the fragile bones that comprised the hand sturdily together and limit the risk of fracture.
The third one also contained protection, but it was more of the funny kind: cups. Because the sensitive areas between the legs had always been a weak point for men, women and everything in-between alike. It was almost 2 p.m. now.
Soon, the beginners would pour in, and Darren would greet them enthusiastically, leaving them a couple minutes to shoot the shit while waiting for the others, but soon he called everyone to the tatami area to begin the lesson.
“Welcome yall to the martial arts club! For those who ain’t know, I’m Daimon Darren of 1-C. Pleased to meet you goons. I’ll be organizing these classes on an approximately regular basis if you want to learn the science behind ass-kicking. This one is more of a noob class as I said in the chat.” Part of him wasn’t too sure about helping more people catch up. He told it to shut up.
“No shame in being a noob. If you’re too come practice because you’re afraid of looking like a noob, you ain’t deserve to learn. Even the weakest bitch in here has more courage than half the people I know, and if they keep it up, there won’t be no one to call em a weak bitch no more very soon.”
He paused for dramatic effect, satisfied with his little speech. He was very straightforward as a teacher. “Now without further ado, let’s begin. Y’all dig in the boxes over here for a pair of gloves, a cup and a mouthguard and get in gear. We’ll warm so no one pulls a muscle one me, and then you’re all gonna line up and hit me in the palm. Punch, kick, I don’t care which. Hit me with your best blow. But first we warm up. Follow my lead. Chop chop!”
And so the lesson would begin, Darren leading the group in a couple laps around the room, a couple push-ups, sit-ups and squats and a round of stretching, before making his pupils line up for the palm punches. (OOC: Welcome to this first proper martial arts club thread! In these threads I will basically give the participants activities to do and have Darren in more of a supporting role, you guys are the stars of the lesson. I will post threads like these regularly, hopefully, in order to create more of a school life with club activities and the like, as well as giving people IC reasons to upgrade their hand to hand abilities. Hopefully this will be fun, but as my event peeps know, I'm not only open to feedback but demanding of it, so don't hesitate to DM me what you like and don't like in this thread! Have fun!)

Post by Miku Hajimari on Nov 24, 2018 17:24:24 GMT -4
Miku woke up in her dorm, slowly and calmly as she sat up in her bed and yawned. She was once again alone in her dorm since Levi left UA. So sad. But she had no time for sadness, today was a big day at 14:00 aka 2pm she was gonna have a combat learning session with Darren. It was about time she learned how to kick ass and not depend on her Quirk, otherwise she'd remain a glass cannon.
Her breakfast was cereal, which she ate swiftly. Her dorm was awfully quiet now that Levi left, and Miku was once again lonely. She even contemplated leaving the dorms and go move home, since it was now close to UA. But that a problem for another day. Today was the big day. It was all Miku could think about, she wanted to do this forever. Ever since the Martial Arts Club was formed, Miku wanted to learn how to kick ass. Although she wished to have a 1 on 1 lesson with Darren, and not be a part of the Martial Arts club or any group. But it couldnt be helped, beggars cant be choosers. Darrens attention was gonna be all over the place teaching all the noobs everything. Which meant he wouldnt be able to just focus on her and help just her improve. That means she would have to work even harder. And if need be... "I will even pay him if I have to for private lessons" Miku said to no one in particular as she just thought out loud
After breakfast, she went to the ladies room and freshened up, and brushed her teeth. She dressed up accordingly as Darren said in the UA tracksuit. Miku looked at the time when her morning ritual was done and saw it was only 10:00am. It was a drag. 4 more hours until the big moment. Miku was so excited.
She finally calmed down and decided to pass the time by playing video games. Something to actually ease her mind and take her mind off of the big event. After a few hours of gaming though, she decided she couldnt wait. Miku decided to go early.
So when she arrived, she was a good 20 minutes early, buuut she didnt have the guts to enter first just yet so she meandered a good 10 minutes. Because for 10 minutes she needed to get her shit together. When she finally did that, she entered the room where Darren awaited.
Soon other people would come as well. And Darren then started and welcomed them to the martial arts club "Oof, so I guess Im a member of the Martial Arts club too? Hoo boy. I swear Im into too much clubs" Miku thought to herself as she proceeded to listen to Darren
Before he scared her, but now hearing him more, she was sorta getting used to him. She even got a certain deja vu feel with him. The way Darren behaved reminded her of someone familiar and near and dear. She quietly sighed when she realized DARREN reminded her of someone near and dear.......and annoying. Well at least Darren wasnt annoying, right?
Darren was sorta pleasant as a teacher, at least for now. He even paused the speech for a dramatic effect, it was clear he liked what he was doing. He told everyone to dig in and get gloves and... oh dear, a mouthguard "Wait, is someone gonna hit my face? Maybe I should've got Haruuhi's helmet to protect me" Miku thought to herself
She had no time to be a delicate daisy though. This was for noobs like her. The first thing they were all gonna do was warm up, so they can later punch or kick him in the palm. Most likely so he can assess their strength level. That sounded legit and standard to Miku. So she started doung the excercises the group was doing which involved doing a couple of laps around the room, a couple push ups and sit-ups and squats and a round of stretching.
Then they needed to line up and punch Darren in the palm. This rang deja vu all over again. But she had no time to dwell on that. She was somehow the first in line. Darren told her to hit him with her best blow. Miku nodded and went to punch Darrens palm. It was really REALLY NOT strong, but it wasnt pathetically weak as well. The force behind Miku's punch was very very average. At best

Taylor didn’t know jack-diddly about martial arts. He was a boxer, he had been boxing since he was young and made a hobby of it when he got older. Given the lack of boxing club at the school, however, he had very little choice in the clubs he joined thus he gravitated to the closest thing to a team for people who liked to punch he could. He’d stare at the club’s door for a moment. This was it, he was going to do it. he was about to knock on this door and change his life. Make friends and flex his punching skills in front of the ladies and he was going to do it all without remembering what his quirk was. He had a mental countdown at the doorway before entering. He had gotten lost somewhere between one and five and at seven he opened the door, “MY NAME IS TAYLOR MARTINEZ AND I THROW ELBOWS!” he announced himself to whoever was in the room, his eyes were squeezed tight, he had done his best to make himself fit in. There was a beat of silence from him, he held his breath waiting for a response. Did he mess it up? His first day and possibly his last already? He stood there a moment waiting, just waiting, more waiting. Someone could have said something, but he would still stand there. He did a pretty good job with his intro now it was just a game of waiting to be welcomed or something. He peeped open an eye. That was right, there was something he was supposed to do upon entering. Without a second thought, just after the blonde girl Taylor made his stride towards Darren. He put up a guard and once he was close enough stuck the male in the arm with a straight right jab. Given he hadn't done much in the way of boxing since coming to Japan the blow was sloppy but none the less it'd hit the man's palm and Taylor would swear under his breath. "sorry..."

❝You're showing me colours of the sky, But all I see is Grey❞ 513 w. Martial arts club Kenjutsu-F | Reinforcement-F | Radiant Dawn-E For reasons unknown, Relena had been feeling very excited since seeing the posting for martial arts training. It was a beginner class, so she wouldn't come off looking like an idiot since most of the students there would be green as well. It felt like something that she could be good at and maybe it could be worked into her Kenjutsu regiment!
And so, on Saturday, she awoke early in the morning and got dressed in her UA track uniform as instructed. Making sure not to wake Kimiko, Relena snuck out of the dorm with a bottle of water to run a few laps around the school and grab a quick bite to eat to get her body energized for the lesson to come. She had wondered what the instructor was like? Whoever this 'Darren' person was, they had to be quite strong to be teaching combat training to students at such a prestigious school like UA.
Preferring to be punctual, Relena had arrived with some time to spare. She looked around at the others who had gathered, but preferred to keep to herself. It was already a credit to her that she showed up voluntarily to a club, so she wouldn't push it with socializing.
Once the teacher called them forth, Relena stood in stunned awe. Darren was certainly...a character. That was for sure. Very loud and to the point, but Relena could tell that his heart was in the right place as he explained the lesson to the group. She followed his instructions and picked out a pair of gloves that matched her hands well enough as well as the rest of the protective gear. I hope this stuff has been sterilized, she thought to herself.
Soon enough, she was performing routine exercises which made her feel like her previous jog may have been unnecessary. But regardless, the extra work out felt good to her and she was more than revved up for what was to come! There was adrenaline building up in her and the shadow of a smile peaked up while she waited in line. Just a small one.
A blonde girl who looked to be enjoying herself stepped up and punched Darren with as much effort as she could muster. Relena nodded at how spirited she was. Afterward it was the one guy's turn. Taylor, from what he exclaimed when he made his entrance. She felt kind of bad for not saying anything, but then again no one else did so...
Once Taylor had delivered his punch, Relena stood in front of Darren. She bowed respectively to the larger man before putting her right foot forward to balance her stance. While she wasn't very strong, Relena's practice in Kenjutsu honed her reflexes. She could only hope that this would be satisfactory to the teacher.
She breathed in deep and let out a harsh exhale as Relena pushed her body forward, thrusting her right fist with a quick jab focused into Darren's palm. She then stepped back, nodded politely, and stepped aside for anyone else to take a turn.

phantom grip Today was a day of progress.
On that specific Saturday morning, Mira had mostly prepared herself for the day to come. To say that she wasn't excited would be wrong. There was a faint vibe of adrenaline oozing out from her whilst she actively brushed her teeth, having already taken her daily shower and eaten her breakfast. The purple-haired teen merely sported a white shirt, alongside the school's gym pants as well as the also equally delivered sneakers, all in the lively tones of U.A.
Spit. Water to mouth, lots of gurgling and then dished all down to the sink, such done at least three more times before passing a towel by her lips and finally stepping out of the bathroom. She put on the rest of the required gear, completing the tracksuit, strapping her bag just in case it was needed and ultimately moving to the outside. "Ahh..." The pleasant and gentle breeze flew by, having her side ponytail and the rest of her long and smooth locks flowing along the invisible wind. It was truly so fresh today, and she was satisfied.
The usual bus was taken, there were only fifteen minutes left before the martial arts club session was supposed to start. Matter of fact, this would be her first time. But considering she was already experienced, Mira wasn't too worried about botching. Unlike dancing, her skill in martial arts is something she's confident about. Mainly because it was taught to her by family, and not learned all by herself. She knew that the teachings of her mother were useful and that very day would be another of many for her to prove that such was only true.
Ten minutes after, now 1:55 PM, solely five minutes left. It appeared she was the last to show up too, carefully pushing her palm against the door to allow an opening, her gaze quickly scanning all the surroundings and the people already present. 'Two, three... Four.' Mira thought to herself, eventually taking in more of the decoration of the room itself before shifting her attention back to those standing by, the one at the center being the young Daimon himself; the martial arts club instructor for the day. "Oh, hey, Darren!" Of course, being in the same class as that delinquent, she'd obviously be familiar with him. It's not like she takes offense in his rebellious behavior sometimes, matter of fact, she takes none at all. Mira actually thinks he's entertaining and she was actually happy that he was going to be the one leading them across every lesson.
"Going to be our sensei for this session, huh?"
A couple of nods would be offered towards the other pupils as well, before her gaze reverted towards her fellow classmate, attentively listening to his sudden introduction. He went through with a motivational speech of sorts, in his own way, before explaining what they'd be doing. A strong nod is offered his way once he was done, calm steps bringing her over to each cardboard box, retrieving one set of the aforementioned equipment. Pair of gloves, a cup and a mouthguard, all properly picked according to her bodily measures, and ultimately worn. Following after Darren across the laps, push-ups, sit-ups, squats and stretching wasn't much of a challenge. This was the first class, after all. The others might be even more of novices than herself.
Palm punches would follow.
Mira was impressed with some of the thrown jabs, especially of the one male pupil. He certainly carried some experience behind him as well, even though it appeared like he had messed up. Either way, his stance still gave his skill away. Considering she was trained in martial arts herself, she knew another martial artist when she saw one. Following the smaller, yet stronger-looking blonde of the group, was the Yuugami herself. "Prepare yourself, Darren-kun~!" She teased. It wasn't usually that she was this melodic, nor did she ever use honorifics too frequently. But considering she was familiar with the fellow teenager, due to both being classmates, she thought it was still fun.
One foot was brought back, the other slightly forward, a fist positioned over her waist, the other palm open, with one of its sides facing her target whilst placed in front of her chest. Eyes shut close for a brief second, deep breath taken, before she reopens a widened gaze as all of that breathing is released into a single, concentrated huff, precision and swiftness following the fist previously by her hips, rapidly launched forth to connect with his readied palm. This happened at the same time as her advanced leg stomped the ground to offer extra momentum to her jabbing maneuver, a clap heard once it hit its target.
"Huff... Heehee~!" She joyously giggled in the end, stepping back, somewhat satisfied with her attempt, one clearly matching her level of skill.

Post by Daimon Darren on Dec 4, 2018 0:39:12 GMT -4
The newbies kept coming in one after the other, numbering four in total. It was a pretty good start.
The first one was Miku, which drew a smile do Darren’s lips. He didn’t know her much outside of that paintball match, but he knew she was Akio’s girlfriend and that she came to his martial arts training was gonna get on his nerves somewhat, he believed -- and he loved that. Still, Miku came here for training, and he would give her the same training he’d give anyone else, which was the best training he had to offer in order to build them into proper opponents to have fun with in the martial arts club.
It was a little warped a motivation, but nonetheless, his passion was undeniable.
There was another blonde he had never seen before, a transfer student he assumed; UA was regularly getting those as many dropped out of the programme due to its intense regimen. This one looked capable enough. Maybe she would last. She was a bit quiet, though. She didn’t give her name yet.
A guy named Taylor Martinez -- he gave his name right away -- barrelled through the door off the blonde’s heels. Darren stared at him for a second. There was silence. “Yo! Welcome to the martial arts club!” said the delinquent to cut the silence.
A late entrance was Mira from his class, who was immediately a lot more familiar with him than the others and thus far less surprised by his character. She called him sensei. “Now here’s someone who has the right idea,” he commented with a smirk.
The lesson began, and after the warmup came the palm punches. The first to go was Miku. She did her best, but from her stance, speed and power, Darren could immediately see she was a beginner in close quarters fight. If he recalled correctly, her quirk had to do with plants; she was probably a ranged fighter as a result. “Next!”
Next up was Taylor. The difference was plain to see: he was a much more experienced fighter, and while the right jab surprised Darren a little, he caught it in his palm as well. He reminded him of some of his sparring partners at old Fujikawa’s gym. He’d have to introduce him sometime. “Nice jab,” he said. “Next!”
The following puncher was the new girl, who did a proper little bow and everything. Her punch was sharp and her foot stance like a swordswoman, reminding him of Tetsuko. He’d probably need to enlist her help for sword stuff, now that he thought of it. He made a mental not to text the girl afterward. “Hey, new girl. You’re a sword girl, right? And what’s your name by the way?”
After she answered would be Mira’s turn. She went at it as energetically as always, but surprisingly enough, she showed him a proper wing chun stance and jab, sharp and short, straight on target. He never took her for a fighter. “Fuck, you fight, Mira? How come I never heard of that before? Where did you learn? Whatever, you’ll tell me later. Alright, listen up, y’all. Ima see about that defense of yours now. Miku, you go with Mira, Taylor with the new girl.” He had already forgotten her name.
He dove into another cardboard box he had prepared beforehand and threw protective headgear at everyone. Not handed over, but thrown across the shoulder as he crouched in front of the box. “Catch!” He shouted. “It trains hand-eye coordination!” Once everyone was served, and hopefully had caught their headgear without needing to pick it up off the floor, which would be lame, he continued.
“One person attacks, the other defends. Stop when I whistle, then we switch.” While picking up the headgear, he had also gotten himself a whistle around his neck. “Don’t hit at full strength, this is an exercise. And I don’t mean at 80% either, save that for sparring. You can’t train if you give your ass a concussion in the first ten minutes. Well, your head, I suppose. Anyway, on my mark. Mira and Taylor attack first.”
Darren blew the whistle as hard as he could. He would blow it again thirty seconds later, signaling for them to stop.
He would carefully watch his new clubbies joyfully pound on an opponent who couldn’t defend themselves. Or rather, he would be observing the one getting pounded on, far more interested in the defense they would deploy. Miku, in particular, he would keep a close eye on; she was quite obviously the only beginner, which is why he paired her with Mira, trusting the girl not to be too vicious. He was also interested in Taylor’s offense, but equally curious to see how the new girl would handle it without a sword. They did have rubber swords and bokkens in the back, but he figured he’d save the surprise for when her it would be her turn to attack.
Now then, let’s see if there’s any potential in this lot. We'll save the tennis ball cannon for later. (ooc: for obvious reasons, each attacker should post before its defender, but otherwise there's no post order, just that everyone should post once before i post again. remember to write your attacks as attempts! defenders are free to write whether they hit or miss, but stay reasonable, of course. you are all at F rank martial arts except Miku, but F to G isn't a massive difference either! I highly encourage you guys to communicate in DMs with your partners to arrange some cool stuff)

Taylor’s jab seemed effective enough despite just how weak it was. He was silently ashamed by how sloppy the punch was given he used to throw better rights in his training days. Then again, that was just a warm-up and he joined this club to re-hone his skills. All he had to do was make it past day one and he’d be back in fighting shape in no time. There were others in the club, three others. They seemed strong enough and under different circumstance, he may have asked them all to do some punching with him and it seemed that the other male had a similar feeling as he put them all into groups of two. Mira and the little blonde were paired together, while Taylor and the bigger blonde were to go at it. The first thing he noticed was just how solid the girl looked. This wasn’t gonna be easy. Still, no matter how hard she hit, this was his moment to put his skills to the test after a long while of being out of the ring. When the headgear was tossed his way he fumbled it at first, only to juggle it in his hands for a moment before finally planting it on his head. It was shifted a bit, the top bit just hooded his eyes. There was no warning other than a roar as he charged at his partner like a raging ram darting straight out of hell. His guard came upmid-stridee, his left fist taking the front, the right behind it just parallel. Just a foot away he cocked his fist back and threw a wild right jab at the girl. The punch would no doubt have force behind it if it connected, but given his obstructed vision it would have been a miracle if it connected. |

❝You're showing me colours of the sky, But all I see is Grey❞ 699 w. Martial arts club Kenjutsu-F | Reinforcement-F | Radiant Dawn-E (OOC: Permission given by Goku-Taylor for autohit.)
Relena was slightly taken aback by the sudden exclamation from Darren as he caught her blow. Sword girl? She cleared her throat loudly and nodded briefly to the brash man in front of her...it had indeed dawned on her that she had not made an introduction!
"Ah, yes. How rude of me." Her bow was a little less pronounced this time, but she felt obligated out of respect for her new teacher. "My name is Relena Tsuruya and I just started here not too long ago. I am indeed a swordsman, trained in Kenjutsu...thank you for having me, sir."
She felt the back of her neck grow hot from the intensity that Darren gave off, so she took a step back and pretended to fix her hair. Relena studied the movement that the girl called Mira exhibited with great interest! It seemed like she wasn't new to close quarters combat and even seemed to impress Darren. It would be worth while to keep an eye on her throughout the duration of the course to gain some pointers.
Once the trials had ended, Darren would be pairing them off for some simple combat practice. This made sense, since he still wanted to gauge their combat prowess. Relena was satisfied already that he was a good teacher...until he haphazardly started flinging head gear to everyone, which warranted a surprised squeak from Relena as she jumped up into the air to grasp the piece. She landed firmly back to the ground evenly while regarding Taylor who seemed to be juggling his around like a clown. Relena couldn't help but sigh. Wait, w-was it even positioned correctly on his head? She wasn't sure if he could-
Oh bloody hell!
There was a bestial roar that came from across the room! Relena barely had time to think before Taylor immediately barreled in at her. Was he insane!? This was supposed to be a simple back and forth! Was Taylor really going at her at full force?
After the initial shock of the surprise attack, Relena calmly sucked in a deep breath. Let the fear in for a second. Let it take hold of you for a moment and then...She let the breath out sharp as a needle as Taylor was nearing her ever closer. It was obvious that Taylor was far stronger than Relena and that, if this attack landed, she wouldn't wake up for a week.
I'm not sure if I should be shocked or annoyed.
It was then that a thought had come to her. It was a scene from the show "The Greatest Disciple" that she always wanted to try, but the opportunity never presented itself. Until now, that is. Taylor was nearly on top of her when Relena executed her counter attack.
She spun her body around to turn her back on Taylor. Her training in Kenjutsu gave her the proper spatial awareness to know where her opponent was in contrast to her own position. Relena shoved her back against Taylor's chest and grasped his attacking right arm where the forearm met near the elbow with both hands. Using both his weight and the momentum from his charge, Relena planted her feet down firmly and let out a fierce scream before bending her body forward and taking Taylor with her.
The girl twisted Taylor's arm forward and used all of her strength to send him careening up and over her small frame to slam him down onto the ground with as much force as she could muster. She would be lying if she said there wasn't a small trickle of anger added to the attack and it gave her mild satisfaction when the loud thud cracked through the air. Unfortunately, with all the excitement, Relena had forgotten to let go of Taylor's arm and she went falling with him!
Relena crashed forward face first on the ground next to Taylor. Although it was slightly embarrassing, a chuckle escaped her lips without warning. That was the first time she ever performed a muay thai throw and it was from a show no less! Despite the slight miscalculation, it was quite the success. She just wondered if Taylor was doing alright.

phantom grip It appeared that her attempt had seemingly impressed Darren.
Well, that was a good sign. It's always a good thing to have your own classmates acknowledge you. She hasn't exactly been able to make much of an impact herself, after all, most of the times just staying in the background during classes and any other lessons. That was obviously her fault, of course. It's not like she wants to look like the protagonist or anything either. But just seeing the rest of the others evolve so quickly, she wishes she could grow just as fast.
"Guess you've never seen this fighting side of me!" The teen replied with a large, excited grin, deeply grateful for him noticing that she had some background when it came to martial arts. Though, before she could go on to explain exactly how she learned how to fight, they were already moving to the next phase of training. Now they were about to practice their offense and defense, grouped in pairs. It appeared she was going to be with the seemingly less experienced one of the quartet. She didn't look too heavy, at least when compared to Mira herself, but she was just about as tall.
A nod is offered to Darren in understanding of the exercise as she began to step over to the taller blonde. "So we--!" Yet, prior to being able to get some conversation going, she heard the 'catch!' coming from her classmate, swiftly turning her attention in the source's direction only to have a protective headgear flying in her direction. She could only rapidly raise her arms up, hands widening open to catch the piece of training gear in-between both her palms. "Oof...!" That was close, admittedly. She had almost allowed it to fall. "Caught it!" She announced happily, before eventually turning her attention back towards her partner. "As I was saying... It looks like we're together. What's your name?" Mira inquired in her usual joyous tone of voice, all the while preparing to put on the headgear launched towards each by Darren himself.
After she had gotten a brief introduction out of the blonde, she nodded and continued to smile at her, returning one of her own. "I'm Mira, of 1-C! That's how me and Darren know each other, as you could already see." Finally, with her head now protected, fully geared up with the previously worn gloves, mouthguard and groin cups, she faced her partner in the same previously demonstrated wing chun stance. "Ready?" The purple-haired teen mumbled, and once she got a confirmation, she'd commence, throwing the first swift jab in the blonde's general direction, more precisely towards the center of her face. It didn't carry much force behind it, since she didn't muster much strength into that single, sole maneuver. After all, Darren did tell them to go easy.

Miku hit Darrens palm, she had no idea how she did, she hoped it was good. She moved away and let the others have their go at Darren. Mira was the last one. And she was the one that was teamed up with Miku. And Taylor was with... blonde person. Miku didnt know her name, but neither did Darren. Honestly, Miku considered it a huge success he remembered her name after they only interracted once. He seemed like the type of guy to not give any fucks and just call you by insent nickname here.
He dove into a box, dug around a bit and then quickly tossed stuff. It was one of those 'Think fast' moments. Miku caught the headgear. Somehow she did it. Usually things her kersplat in her face. Thank goodness that didnt happen, she thought her nose couldnt take it anymore. But the headgear made her nervous. Does that mean the training lesson will be safer or more dangerous. Which was it. She never tained with protective gear? Was that because she was used to training in unsafe methods? Or because she didnt need any headgear and protection in the first place. Miku threw that internal dilemma to the back of her head and focused on Darrens words. Basically 1 person attacks, the other defends, stop and switch when he whistles. Simple enough, but scary sounding. She felt so unready. Attack and defend? Thats ambiguous, what kinda techniques were they learning or using? Was it just a punch attack? Is she overthinking it? .... Actually this is a Darren lesson, she is probably overthinking it.
Miku and Mira were paired. The girl asked Miku her name, she she briefly introduced herself "Miku Hanabira of Class 1-B, pleased to meet ya" she said shyly as she was putting on the headgear. Putting on a brave face to these martial artists. Her partner, Mira was revealed to Miku to be Darrens classmate. That explains their playful banter interaction.
When the two girls were 100% geared up, Mira took some stand... stance thing. And asked if she was ready. Miku also was in her own, totally noob stance when Mira asked her if she was ready "Yes" she said "No" was what she really thought
Mira then went for an attack to the face. Miku raised her arms infont of her face to defend the attack. She saw that maneuvar on TV, she had no idea of its effectiveness. But the fact that Mira didnt sock her in the face was a mini triumph to Miku

At least everyone caught the headgear. That was good, they had eye-hand coordination, even Miku, the least experienced one. After having announced the partners, he started walking around them, carefully observing their performance.
For Miku and Mira, it was an exchange of quick, probing jabs. Miku held a loose guard in front of her, deflecting some of the blows and preventing Mira from landing a direct hit, but she was pounding on Miku nonetheless and the girl was helplessly put on the back foot. “Alright, alright, pause here. Mira, get a bit more serious, that’s what the headgear is for. Miku, you’re gonna want to block better than that or you’re gonna eat shit. Don’t just leave your hands in front of you and cower like a little bitch, you want to keep looking at Mira all the time, if you flinch you’re gonna get hit one hundred percent guaranteed. You don’t have to do any fancy shit, just figure out where she’s gonna hit you and get a glove there, try to block, or at least deflect. Also, don’t backstep, that’s how you get fucked with your back against the wall. You want to step to the side. And I want to see more movement here, both your feet and your head, make yourself harder to hit.” He turned his head to his classmate. “Mira, you know what to do. Don’t clock the shit out of her either, but don’t let her block everything. You’re supposed to eat shit in sparring, that’s how you avoid eating shit in a real fight. Tough love and whatnot, yknow?”
The delinquent had a devilish smile, the kind of which made you doubt of his professionalism as a sensei, but it really was what he believed to be best for Miku right now. It was said that attack won matches and defense won championships. While the original statement was made towards ball games, it was equally true of martial arts in Darren’s opinion. What the girl needed right now is to learn how to keep her head straight when someone was pounding on her. Then we’d worry about fighting back.
The second bout was a short once. Taylor ran head-first towards Relena, cocking his fist back for a direct right straight. It certainly had power, but… It was predictable and the aim was off. Relena caught on to those things. The blonde girl quickly move her back to his opponent’s belly, dodging the poorly-aimed blow and using her opponent’s momentum to throw him over her shoulder.
It would have been an excellent throw had she actually thrown her opponent, but instead, she didn’t let go of his arm and went down tumbling with him. Still, she seemed pleased with herself given that audible chuckle. “Not bad, sword girl, but he ain’t your sword. Let go of him when you’re doing that. Taylor,” he said, squinting his eyes. He approached the new kid, pulled him up on his feet by the collar and reajusted his headgear with rough movements. “The fuck you’ve been doing with that headgear, b? Adjust that shit properly, man. And don’t go on them wild charges like that. Construct your attack. Let me see them jabs and that footwork, not just that strength.”
He went back to where he started, inbetween the groups. “Alright yall, go again. And apply what I said. Taylor, I expect you to make this challenging to our sword girl here. She’s fighting on our turf, represent. Miku, just keep your head screwed on tight and watch these blows. Don’t be afraid to take a few. Better get acquainted with the feeling of classmate’s fist to the face here than learn all about it in a back alley with some shady ass villain, am I right? Mira, make it challenging for her, and show me what you can do. Alright, box!”

phantom grip Well, things would start to get a little more serious. So much that she almost felt bad for her sparring partner. Was Darren actually into watching people struggle? That much she couldn't exactly discern about him, though he did ooze out those kind of vibes. For a moment, the teen really didn't want to have to increase the challenge for the blonde, yet if it did help, she'd do so.
After a couple more weak and quick jabs for her to allow Miku to get used, her classmate would once more approach, and pause their exercise. She attentively looked his way as he spoke, retracting her arms and hands, pressing them against her chest whilst cautiously listening. She did feel a bit curious about the expressions he gave during and after his explanation; that devilish smile especially. Certainly not so normal thoughts crossed his mind.
"Aaaarrite. I got it." The girl nodded, with a faint smile visible underneath her headgear before she eventually turned her attention back to her partner. "Okay, so... You heard him, I guess. I apologize in advance if I end up getting a little too rough." She allowed an amused chuckle to escape her lips, trying not to make the situation sound more serious than how it's supposed to be. Mira gets back into the usual stance following such a remark. She spends a few seconds looking for any immediate openings once her partner also positioned herself defensively, taking a few tiny steps to one side and to the other, all the while waving her closed fists around, warming them up for another strike.
Swoosh!
She follows up abruptly, aiming at the closest opening she could find, and throwing a swift and efficient jab in a way to also catch her partner off guard. Of course, her target was her headgear and her headgear only, the power behind the maneuver enough, not to make the blonde's head wobble viciously, but at least to make her have a feel of the impact of a proper punch. There was still a bit of delay in-between each of her jabs, yet it was considerably lower when compared to before, as only two or three seconds after, Miku would be met up with another closed fist aimed at the base of her headgear, hoping on landing a successful hit each and every time, having her sparring partner truly struggle when it came to adapting and finding time to block each jabbing assault.

Mira was nice, she saw Miku had a hard time with this excercise and thus went easy on her. Allowing Miku to get a hang of this whole defending this. Alas she had no idea if she was doing it right. After a bit, everyone paused to hear out Darren.
Well Darrens advice was... semi useful. Sure she needs to block better, but how, its not like she saw a demonstration of a technique. They were left to their own vices. And it looked like Darren was all into that tough love. Although he was right, Miku DID have headgear, well.. "I guess its time to use it then. Looks like I have to use my noggin" Miku thought to herself
Mira apologized to Miku in advanced. Miku took a deep breath "I forgive you" She braced herself for probable hell as she got in her amatuer defensive stance
Mira being the pro she was started her flurry of punche. She aimed at the closest opening she could find. Miku managed to block some attacks, but the more experienced Mira managed to catch Miku off guard and bonk Miku on her headgear. The power behind such a maneuver was strong enough to make her feel the impact of a proper punch. And to Miku... that wasnt half bad. These headgear protection pieces really work. That was a huge weight off her shoulders. Miku expected a ton of pain. But this was safer then she expected, which made her feel more at ease during this whole excercise
But also during all of this Miku met up with another closed fist aimed at the base of her headgear, which was the 2nd successful hit Mira got on her. This truly was harder then before, Mira managed 2 hits, but now that Miku got the hang of it, she managed to block the other jabs. She was slightly sturdier then before, as in she was not gonna be pushed back. But still, she did get hit 2 times.

He had assumed that his punch would have ended this affair easily. She was smaller than him, therefore probably would have been too overwhelmed with fear of his mass to really do anything besides soak up the punch with a pained expression and then likely leave the room in embarrassment. He couldn’t blame her, it was only natural that someone like him would scare someone so prim and proper. Cracking a premature smile mid jab he had found himself feeling confident about his match up, this was a piece of cake. Sadly for him he hadn’t connected and instead felt her snatch his arm, his eyes widened and a gasp left his lips as his entire world was flipped upside down and he was slammed onto the ground with a thud. His eyes were bulging, his mouth was agape and his body had fallen stiff. For a breif moment he stared at the ceiling before closing his mouth and tightening his jaw. “Did you just... Did she just... Did I just...” he couldn’t get the words together, in seventeen years of life not once had he ever been put on his back like this. The sensation of embarrassment collected at his face, but instead of blushing his body only mustered up a tight bitten lower lip. Not long after the incident Darren had spoken up about the first go of the sessions to which Taylor slapped his hands on the floor and sat up. While sitting he looked over at the girl again and back at Darren who would assist him with his helmet as well as give him new directions; throw jabs and don’t just show strength. He could do that... He’d adjust himself again and cracked his neck to the left, “You won’t get two of those on me.” he smiled at the girl. Clapping his fist together he’d advanced toward her, guard up. His right arm was posted forward, the other parallel behind. Taylor would take gentle steps towards her and once in her vicinity he’d start off with a few simple jabs at any guard she’d put up. She would have noticed these blows were slower and more precise in attempt, every time he threw a jab he’d immediately return to his guard in case she counter attacked. |

❝You're showing me colours of the sky, But all I see is Grey❞ 354 w. Martial arts club Kenjutsu-F | Reinforcement-F | Radiant Dawn-E Relena looked up at Darren with a visible grin plastered on her face. She gave him a firm nod of acknowledgement as she jumped up to her feet. After brushing herself off a bit, she turned her attention to Taylor who was being berated by Darren. It was indeed a strange strategy to go all out during a training session, but at least Relena knew who she was dealing with.
Taylor was definitely the type who's actions spoke louder than his words. She'd have to keep an eye on this one, considering the fact that the two shared a homeroom class. It made her wonder why he decided to come to this club meeting? Was it to better himself or did he simply want an excuse to throw down with other meat heads?
"Yes Taylor," she commented. "I did indeed flip you on your ass. Not going to lie...that was pretty sloppy of you. Maybe next time you shouldn't make such an amateurish mistake?"
If he was going to get better, that temper would need to be reigned in. Relena wasn't sure if she was the best sparring partner to adjust such a temperament, but she could at least try. After all, they were all here to better each other. Such base mockery was normally beneath her, but this time she would make an exception.
Fortunately, Taylor's blows were much more methodical. As he took his measured jabs, Relena was able to catch and gently deflect them away from her person. After a couple of strikes, she would also take a chance to counter him. These were guarded easily by Taylor as well, who must have seen them coming.
He was clearly a strong fighter when he put his mind to it...if only he could just control that hurricane built up inside of him for more constructive attacks. After the few back and forths, Relena would want to break the monotonous rhythm of the to and fro.
Without a word of warning, she would duck under one of Taylor's strikes in an attempt to sweep at his leg in the hopes of tripping him.
