Combat Lesson: Block Fort Flag Brawl
|
It was decided! Saionji would make his way to the green fort to attack them. Meanwhile, Sean would stay here and continue gathering water molecules from the surrounding air to strengthen his water wall. His partner suggested making some kind of signal to notify him in case Sean needed help. "Sure thing! I'll make it in the shape of a giant triangle pointing downwards. Simple enough, although hopefully it won't come down to that! Anyway, go kick some butt, Blazing!"
At the moment, there was no one coming his way. This was good. He could concentrate and focus on getting as much water from the air as he could. The more water he could use, the better. Still, not all was well. The longer Sean used his quirk, the colder his body got. It was not a problem at the moment, but if this got dragged out for too long, then his body would freeze, and he would not be able to concentrate enough to continue controlling water. If another team came for his flag while his body was still thawing itself, then that would be very troublesome. Still, Sean had plenty of time before he had to worry about that. He could still concentrate.
Slowly but surely, the water wall began to grow and expand. Previously, it was only large enough to cover the front of the flag. Now, it was just big enough to cover it from all sides. Sean kept a close eye on the water wall, as well as on the bridges that connected to the blue fort. The boy had a plan. Once he gathered enough water to make his wall formidably tough, then he would deactivate his quirk. Thus, he would only need to activate it and bring up the wall when anyone approached to try to challenge him. That way, he could conserve as much energy as possible, and also be able to defend his flag for as long as possible.
Finally, Sean had gathered all of the water that he needed. The wall of compressed water was now about as tough as stone when surrounding the entire flag. If Sean chose to compress this water further, he could make it as tough as a light metal, but at the cost of being a much smaller wall that could only defend from one side. Regardless of compression, however, Sean still needed to be careful. Because he did not have nearly as much water as his quirk was capable of controlling, the water wall was thin. It was only about as thick as cardboard, and if Sean chose to compress the water wall further to give it the durability of light metal, it would only be slightly thicker than a single sheet of paper. The wall was enough to keep weak attacks at bay, but a strong enough force or multiple mid-powered attacks would be enough to damage or even shatter the wall.
Still, Sean was not too worried. He had faith in his own abilities. He would do his best to keep the water wall up for as long as he could. Getting the flag from him would not be child's play. Sean was ready to defend his flag from anyone who decided to come after him. This was good, as it seemed that some people were already planning to go after his flag.

Muscles tense, eyes ablaze, yet grin very firmly plastered all over her face, Jasmine swung down on Saito with reckless abandon, channeling her quirk through her fist to expunge a sizable explosion the second her haymaker made contact. The initial punch was powerful enough as is and the kid even managed to dodge it! That was a pretty pleasant surprise. Considering the fact that Jasmine had been invisible, Saito could only really use his other senses to be able to predict the attack coming. This guy has good instincts, Jaz thought, her eyes narrowing ever so slightly. She'd have to look out for him in this match. He seemed like the type to be irritating to deal with. She watched him as he was blown back by her quirk, yet it didn't take him long to spring back up on his feet. On top of having some pretty good fighting sense, he was sturdy too. Not too shabby. Then again, his next words disappointed her a little. Cowardly, eh? Was that really what he thought? Jaz had half a mind to scoff in his face and punch him again. They finally got a decent combat exercise. There was no way she'd pull any punches. Out there, in the real world... you used what you had at your disposal. Fairness, honor, none of that shit mattered if you didn't win. There was, is, and never will be any nobility in defeat. Jaz tilted her head as she straightened herself, balling her hand into a fist as she prepared to attack again- -until Saito decided to just nope the fuck out of there. Okay? She thought, blinking dumbly. Yeah, okay, fighting her in the state she was in was definitely disadvantageous for the male, but come on. Watching the situation unfold, she realized the guy went over to help his teammate who had been bombarded by fire. Perhaps that was the smart decision... then again it really only looked like Saito was simply at his wits end. He left the invisible Jaz to deal with a visible threat in favor to protect a weaker teammate. What if said invisible Jaz went over to attack the aforementioned weaker teammate? Neither option seemed fair. Heck, both outright sucked. Then again he seemed like he just wanted to punch something and actually went for what he could see. The blonde lioness could respect that. Now... what in the hell was she supposed to do? Just going for the flags was... boring. The whole reason she attacked Saito was because he was staring her down in the first place, rearing to go. With flamethrower over there attacking sandvalley-girl, she figured Saito would fight like an animal pushed into a corner and would've offered her a proper fight, but... she sighed, all too dejectedly. Those two now looked like they were about to throw down in a manliest man-to-man showdown of man and she really wanted absolutely no part in that. Ember glanced down at her invisible fists; they probably wouldn't stay like this for much longer so if she wanted to capitalize on Heidi's ability she needed to do it quickly. Stay on this warzone of a fort or check out one of the other two remaining? Sean looked like he was building a watery fortress for himself and the red fort... wait, what the fuck was red fort doing again? Both of them were on the move. Haruuhi was doing Haruuhi things and it looked like that other kid was going for blue fort. They were leaving their flag relatively unguarded which meant Jasmine could go ahead and try stealing it. Whatever counter-measures they had in place probably stand against her quirk for long either, but... Naw. The blonde's grin widened as she pointed both of her palms towards the ground. She bent her knees just a tad and lowered her gravity. Invisible eyes flashed crimson as a massive explosion was expelled through either palm, sending the female rocketing into the air and subsequently covering green fort in a cloud of dust and debris. The explosion was visible, and really damn loud, but Jasmine had aimed it in such a way that had a high-arcing trajectory. It launched her high into the air before she finally begun descending. This was her plan - launch such an explosion that would let her cross a long enough distance without her having to use another before reaching Eli. Speed didn't matter here - she was invisible anyway so she'd catch him by surprise anyway. And there were no footsteps either... just that one very very very loud bang. It was incredibly unlikely he'd consider it anything other than an attack aimed at green fort. From high up above, Jasmine was barreling towards Eli, descending towards him like a mortar shell ready to explode. The prisms that surrounded her and granted her invisibility finally begun cracking and breaking, revealing Jasmine's form. But it was already too late. She was close, hands up in the air with a massive amount of C2N14x swirling in between her palms. The grin on her face was fierce and the fire in her eyes was wild as she unleashed yet another devastating blast on a different, yet all the same unfortunate target. wc: 878 tl;dr: >Jaz, still invisible, decided to switch targets >Released a massive explosion that sent her high into the air, leaving behind a cloud of dust that can be used as cover on green fort >Explosion was strong enough to send her falling onto Eli without her needing to use another to reveal her position in the air >Heidi's invisibility is finally broken. Jaz is fully visible when she's about seven or so meters away from Eli >Jaz, excited and hype af, is above Eli as the invisibility breaks, releasing a two-handed explosion on top of his head

Good, it didn't seem like anyone had noticed her just yet. She let herself slip off the edge of the fort arena and landed on top of the robot. She'd slid in between a few of it's metal plates so that her body was properly hidden and began to work her magic. With her quirk, she began to trace the Radio signals being emitted and received by the robot, and with that she began to hack it's core functions. Mobility was the first major system she needed and went for, and then she began to mess with it's command functions. Instead of being programmed to catch the falling students, she reprogrammed it instead to catch any student not wearing a red bandanna. This way, even if she lost control of the robot, or exhausted her quirk, it would follow the basic programming she had over written into it.
"Excellent... it looks like all systems are a go. I can't let Jaz blindside me, so I guess it's time to go big or go home... If she manages to sneak up on this thing, i'm not sure how long it will hold..." She goaded herself, sucking in a deep breath as she made the large robot start to move forward. It's targeting system was analyzing everything around it, locking on to the various students before finding the one Haruuhi wanted to go for. She sucked in a deep breath, nervous to all hell... but when she saw Jazmine going after her partner, she knew she needed to act fast.
With a powerful leap, the giant robot jumped up from the absolute bottom level, and up to the top, landing just behind the leaping Jazmine. It's giant mechanical arm swung forward, aiming to grab Jaz at the first opportunity she could.
Allowing some reaction time for Eli.

Perhaps her second attack was overkill. Then again, she was willing to relax her limits when she was seconds from being burned to a crisp. Either way, some combination of her attack and Saito’s… barbaric beatdown had warded Saionji off. More than warded him off, even – he didn’t look like he was getting up. Was it a fake out? No way – he was the only combatant Emi had met before, and he’d made it very clear that he would fight until he couldn’t fight any longer. That just happened to be quite short. Whoops.
More importantly, Saito had dived to her rescue. Or… What she assumed to be Saito, anyway. She hadn’t seen many quirks in action, let alone transformation quirks, so to realise that her partner was a hulking, bulging mass of fuck-off heat gave pause. “…Oh. So that’s your quirk.” She poked her head out from behind the salt wall. “I didn’t see any punching.” A cheeky grin showed itself, only to vanish just as quickly as it had come, thanks to… an explosion?
“What the-“ A twitch of her finger slid a chunk of salt out of the pillar beside her, shielding her from the incoming dust cloud, and whatever attack was meant to follow. A few seconds passed before she realised none was coming… And she returned the construct to its original position. The other enemy, it seemed, had fled the scene, and with Saionji down-
“You see? Defence works!” For once, she looked pleased, especially once she looked around and confirmed that all of her decoys were intact. If not for them, she would have had to split her focus between the assault and the flag, but as it was… they’d been a good choice. “Oh. And… Thanks for having my back.” She turned back to her feral friend, offering him a thumbs-up. “You’re not half bad, from the looks of it. Although…”
She paused to observe the field. Their fort was clear for the moment, but she couldn’t say the same for the others. With three players on their fort, one on blue, one on yellow and three on re- Wait, what? “Seriously?” That wasn’t three players on Red Fort – that was two players and a fucking robot taking up arms. “Shouldn’t that be against the rules or something?! …Okay, side note, let’s not mess with the machine right now... That leaves Blue and Yellow Fort, if you’re itching for a fight… And it sure as hell sounded like you were.” Felt like it too – the boy was a living radiator. “I’ll stay here, either way. Defending as always.”

so put that ring away and cash it in Were they fucking stupid or something? Here she was, sitting on her ass, helpless as a doll and open for business. But then again, maybe these try-hards really were honing their combat abilities, delaying the capture part until everyone got a proper beating in. That would actually be the best way to approach this shitshow, from a pedagogical perspective. Yet she had a sneaking suspicion no one was thinking that far ahead. Green team had the misfortune of pulling in all the hotheads. That edgelord on Blue and, to her pleasant surprise, the fiery femme. Her glottal roar signaled her attack, followed by a beautiful blast straight wrecking Haircut. Well, almost. He survived. A little disappointing, but it made for a fantastic action shot. Heidi zoomed in the moment she heard her partner's battle cry, and wow, what a show. Over on the house of Blues, that up and coming children's show host looked like he was having a blast with his waterworks. "Step right up, folks, we've got ourselves a wall." She gave him a slow clap. "So original." The more people she had going toe to toe, the more footage she could pick from. She cupped her hands around her mouth so her ribbing could reach water boy across the field. "Kid, your partner's getting all the good stuff. Is this the kind of hero training you wanted? Standing around selling modern art?" Hopefully that'd motivate him to do something worth filming. She turned to throw a similar jibe over at the Red wusses twiddling their thumbs away, when a motherfucking nuclear explosion erupted before her eyes. Okay, exaggeration, it was a healthy blast, but it was loud as hell and rocked the metal beneath their feet. Heidi cursed at the missed shot. The cons of gracing the star of the show the ability to hide from view. The billowing smoke and debris thinly cloaked the poor saps still brawling on Yellow. Given the direction in which the aftermath was floating, she had a feeling blondie was getting ready to dance with those deadbeats. She pointed the lens and held her breath. Hunch confirmed as her form emerged on the diametric corner, freefalling and ready to rumble. Better yet, Red finally compensated for their sloth performance by calling forth a fucking robot to do the dirty work for them. "Go Red Team!" she cheered. But damn, it sucked having to stay rooted to this sad corner all by herself. The moment she stepped off, Green over there would come barging in and disqualify them both, punting her to the sidelines where it'd be even harder to capture all the money shots. She had to rid herself of the nuisance, but Papa Geist would sit her in time-out if she chucked the flag into oblivion. She'd have to get someone else to do it for her. Rising to her feet, Heidi swiped her burden off the ground and stood at the edge of her fort, right at the foot of the bridge that connected her territory to Green's. She leaned the flag against the railing, completing a triangle between the flagstaff, bridge post, and floor. A new prism, attached to the flag, hid the prize from view without obfuscating the other contact points. Perfectly precarious. "Hey, Green! Two against one, let's go!" Smirk boldly painted, she set her fists against her hips, her stance emanating unfounded confidence and sass. Staring straight down the suspended link to the other team, she proclaimed herself to be official guard of Yellow's reign, daring them to approach her.
wc: 595 heidi roots a prism to the flag and hides it next to the bridge, will tumble over edge if moved.

words: 405 tag: Jasmine Noir notes: Not much else he can do at the moment |
With the water wall reaching an acceptable size, Sean was no longer worried about not having enough water to work with. His main concern now was making sure that the wall lasted as long as possible. Looking at the bridges connecting blue fort to the adjacent forts, Sean did not see anyone immediately coming for his flag. Not wanting to use up his quirk so unnecessarily, Sean decided that he would deactivate his quirk early, only activating it once more to form the water wall if he saw anyone coming for his flag.
First, he moved as much water as he could fit back into his two bottles. The boy then spread out the rest of the water on the floor, being careful not to let any of it get too close to the edges of the fort. After all, the last thing he wanted was for water to spill off the side and go to waste. Before deactivating his quirk, Sean moved some of the water in the direction of the bridges and stairs, moving the water as close to them as possible while still keeping the water within his quirk's range. That way, if anyone did decide to run over to blue fort, they would need to be careful not to move too quickly, lest they slip on the wet floor and fall.
Once preparations were complete, Sean deactivated his quirk. Although the boy hoped that he would not need to reactivate his quirk again (except to move the water out of the way so his own teammate would not slip on the wet floor), Sean knew that thinking like that was just optimistic at best and completely foolish at worst. Sooner or later, someone would come for his flag.
Keeping his eyes on the bridges and stairs and periodically turning his head to look in the direction of each one, Sean was being watchful and alert. He needed to be ready to reactivate his quirk on a moment's notice. He needed to be ready for anything!
However, Sean could not look everywhere at once, and he could not anticipate every possible strategy the opposing teams would try against him. He was currently only focusing on the expected points of entry into the blue fort. If someone entered the fort by some other means than the bridges or stairs, then Sean would not have nearly as much time to react to their arrival.
Sean's quirk is currently deactivated, but he will reactivate it and form the water wall around his flag the moment he sees someone approaching from the stairs or either bridge.
The top floor of blue fort is wet with water, as is the floor close to the bridge and stairs (but not the bridges or stairs themselves). Sean will only move this water away and dry the floor for his teammate. Caution must be exercised when moving in this area to avoid slipping.
Sean is keeping an eye on the stairs and bridges, but he is not expecting anyone to arrive in a different manner. If someone does come to blue fort in a different way, then Sean will not be able to react in time.

Well, shit.
Jasmine wasn't able to tell you whether she was surprised or disappointed that her attack hadn't hit her mark. It was likely a mixture of the two, really. Combined with what was slightly delightful. There she was, stopped by nothing else than a motherfucking robot. Where did the bitch come from? She had no idea. But part of her assumed Haruuhi was somehow the perp behind this little stunt. Would make sense, really; she didn't look like the combat type, so she must've had some form of means to fight that put her in a hero class and not support studies or some such nonsense. That and nobody would try protecting a member of a different team. It didn't make sense with these rules.
It was slow at first. She felt the shadow of the mechanoid enshroud her before she heard the clang of its metallic feet slamming against the fort. Unfortunately for our blonde lioness, though, her current attack was already deep in motion and impossible to cancel out. She would have to go through with it and hope that something hit. Not exactly a great position to be in considering the circumstances, but she'd been in worse.
Though, even that realization didn't stop her from trying.
Her teeth grinding while she was still mid-air, her reaction time was enough for her to realize that something had to be done. And she tried. Boy did she fucking try. The blonde warrior attempted to redirect her arms so the explosion initially aimed at Eli would blast her out of the way of the iron claw homing in on her. She managed to turn over her shoulder, a feral snarl on her face as her eyes blazed with fury... yet it was all for naught as Jasmine just wasn't fast enough. Before she could initiate a counter, five large and hard fingers encased her entire form, locking her in place, imprisoned by the robot's grip.
Christ this thing was strong. She struggled in its grip, trying to inch free just enough to be able to slip out... yet even her herculean strength couldn't grant her enough of a reprieve to be able to fully escape. Fine, she thought, a grin forming on her face, you want to play?
Let's play.
Using every ounce of her strength that she could muster, Jasmine managed to slip one arm free of its grasp. Raising it above her head, her palm began crackling with an enormous amount of C2N14x. Her expression was indescribable by normal means. She looked like a mixture between a villain and an utter beast; wide, burning eyes shook with excitement as the grin on her face spread to the point it looked like it would split her face open. As soon as her fist reached its apex, she swung it down at the robot's arm. Her knuckles made impact, resulting in a very loud clang... before a ginormous explosion followed suit milliseconds later, rocking the area around them. Then another. And another. And another. She kept smashing her fist and her quirk against the robot's appendage, intent on leaving nothing but a rusted heap of bolts behind.
She needed to regain her mobility. Then and only then would she be able to properly fight this robot. As it stood, she didn't know what kind of strength it possessed. Worst case scenario - which Jasmine's mind couldn't help but wander to even on the best of days - dictated that the mecha had enough strength to crush her if she didn't do something. Thus, her other hand which was still firmly in the robot's large grip, began releasing explosions against its fingers in tandem with her main attacks. Assaulting the damn thing from two fronts would be enough of a sign to whoever was holding her captive to let her go... if they wanted to keep the robot for more than three minutes, that is.

Jesus Christ on a cracker, Geist should have known something would go wrong. His first lesson with these kids just could not go smoothly, could it? The cause of the problem was Saionji Nikinawa, also known as Blazing, who had clearly taken a bit too much damage and needed a trip to the nurse’s office. Geist flicked on a microphone before him and his voice rang out across the battlefield:
“Alright, everyone stay completely still where you are! We need to call in a substitute for the Blue Team.”
Geist had composed a list of potential substitutes should something go wrong consisting of students that had expressed interest in the exercise but not signed up in time. The first name on this list was one Alexander Deraine.
To cut a long story short, the same helicopter that had brought Geist in for his dramatic entrance removed Saionji from the field and at the same time brought in Alex, depositing him on top of the blue fort beside his teammate Sean. (He would have been briefed on the rules, handed a blue headband and told who his teammate was along the way).
Blue Team’s gonna be at a bit of a disadvantage now, Geist thought to himself. They have less time to plan. But they’re not being attacked right now and Alex is one of the stronger students at the school, so they should be fine…
“Okay!” he called out. “Continue!”

Robo Haruuhi stopped moving whenever Geist shouted out his order, but never once released or lightened her grip on Jaz. It was an easy thing to do really... stand still. She just hoped that Jaz followed the same order. Regardless if she did or not, it wasn't long until Jaz started to beat into Haruuhi's robo arm again and again with her quirk. The first hit made a hell of a dent, then the dent deepened, and deepened until it started to fracture underneath all of that pressure.
All that Haruuhi could think of in a situation like this, was to get rid of Jaz, and the only way to do that and keep her out of the way was... weeeeeeeeeeell.
Haruuhi twisted her giant robotic body and just chucked Jaz towards the center of the forts, where the other robots were waiting with open nets to catch any students that fell. Hopefully that would count as a ringout and Jaz would be disqualified! She could definitely hope!
What she hadn't fully expected when she threw Jaz though, was the fact that the rest of her robot hand followed, leaving Haruuhi one appendage short. Both ends of the hand would start to spark and pop with electric current, causing an immediate threat to anyone around the giant robot. This unfortunately wasn't something Haruuhi could fix on the spot, at best she could disable the use of the hand to stop the electric current, but that made that arm useless now...

so put that ring away and cash it in As she stood power posing at Team Green, Heidi turned brief attention to the other forts. Barnacle Boy and his oceanic statues were as mediocre as ever. He was probably killing time redecorating the place. She'd have shouted more encouragement if her voice could reach him. His lack of response told her it couldn't. Then, on Red, her periphery barely catching Green, a much more dynamic play. She picked up her camera again and aimed. Robot versus human grenade. The standoff of the century. Ember was looking a little worse for wear. Despite her godly powers, it looked like science was winning, until she started straight up smashing the damn thing to pieces. With the right background music, this'd make an excellent hero narrowly escapes death short film that'd sell for a vast fortune quite soon. Her partner was heavy-hitting war machine who showed no fear. And on top of that, simply gorgeous. If she were a hedge fund, Heidi would be investing like crazy. She had full confidence Ember would climb to the top as a pro. So in a sense, these videos were her investment, and world fame marked when to cash out. Similarly, the fact that Helmet Head over there was giving her a tough time meant the girl was also a force to be reckoned with. The slow and steady type it seemed, given how obnoxiously passive she'd been up until now. Plank, meet eye. The camerawoman was more than ready to see how Red Team planned to move forward, but Papa Geist cut their fun a little short. Looks like edgelord was down for the count. Flying in on a chopper was some dude she also didn't recognize. Not only because they were strangers, that too, but because the world blurred just slightly at that range. She had been a bit gratuitous with her own quirk. Not long after the exercise resumed, she found her partner soaring deep into the pits below. Her eyes widened in disbelief. To think she'd nearly missed this glamor shot. The girl found her equipment running out of battery, so she shut it off for the time being. So, who was this mystery man? The flag was still hidden and likely unmoved. Her partner could use a moment to rest. Assuming the blonde had recovered from her fall, she'd shout at her, "Hold down the fort, I'll be right back!"Entrusting their lifeline to a more robust security guard, Heidi skittered down the steps to the level below. If no one else opted to meet her in the middle, she'd find herself bounding up blue steps and calling out, "Hi I'm Heidi!" as she emerged to welcome the newcomer. If he was cute, she'd stay a while.
wc: 455 Flag still invisible. Accidentally touching the flag will knock it over the edge. Heidi leaves Yellow Fort to say hi to Blue.

And then there was Saito. Turns out, rage was one hell of an anaesthetic. Despite Saionji’s body being almost literal fire, Saito punched and battered and beat his meaty fists into the boy. Burns registered in his mind, kept on file to complain about later. A right hook had one of Saionji’s teeth cut into Saito’s knuckle, blood spilling on both sides. A headbutt half-busted Saionji’s nose. An elbow strike took the wind from his lungs. A cacophonous blast whistled hell into Saito’s ears, stunning him for just a moment long enough for him to be brought back from the beatdown. Emi was speaking to him, he figured, though he didn’t really hear her. He stood there, Saionji being held by the rough of his collar, nose bleeding, black eye, split lip. Not dead, not even that injured. But unconscious. Saito panted. He wanted to do so much more. Wanted to feel a bone break in his grip; the sensation of flesh rending from bone. It ached in him to keep going. After all, Saionji was unconscious from the very first strike. All the rest was just for fun. With an exhalation of breath that refused to stay with this maniac for very long, he let his blood cool and let Saionji crumple to the ground. Someone’ll come to pick him up, he supposed. Emi was still kinda speaking. ”Thanks for having my back.” A thumbs up? “You’re not half bad, from the looks of it.” Saito had no idea how to take that. He wanted to say something snarky, or stick a middle finger at her, or something. But instead, he nodded slightly. She went on talking. Something about robots? Saito’s head was hardly clear enough to take it in or care about. He did catch, however, that she was willing to stay back while he went off to bust more heads – Then Geist spoke. A substitute? What the hell? Saito had just eliminated a contender and Blue Team just gets a fresh face? Someone who has 100% left to give? That was utter bullshit. And he almost screamed it at the masked teacher to. Whatever. Saito went over to Emi and gave her a strong pat on the shoulder, walking straight past her. He looked a bit tired and his touch was too hot to be sweaty. “Shout if ya need me, pum’kin. I’m gonna go break some limbs over at Yellow. Back in a jiffy.” Huh. Was calling her pumpkin a bit much? Saito loved calling people by pet names, its just something he enjoyed. Besides, he'd be satisfied if she got offended over it. That'd be funny. With that, he smirked and started jogging away – towards his next objective – towards Yellow Fort. Who knows? Maybe there was someone to beat the shit out of over there? Tyrant Mode has been deactivated - Cooldown active (As duration was not fully expended, this post serves as cooldown, 1 post of cooldown remains.) Saionji has been eliminated by Saito Saito is Lightly Injured with scratches and burns + a bit of hearing loss and dazing from Jazz' explosions. Saito is heading towards Yellow Fort - Unaware if there's anyone there or not.

Speaking of Yellow Team. The lone girl on the fort seemed a little too eager to try and draw their fire. Was it over-confidence, or the same kind of challenging stunt she had tried to pull with her throne? Whichever it was, she was getting one of Green’s fighters at best. She gave Saito a nod of approval, but before she could offer her parting words, their teacher put the game on hold.
What? Substitution? One of their guys got knocked out and another one got thrown in? “Sure hope that goes for all of us,” Emi muttered, though the helicopter lifting poor Saionji out of the area masked her words. That left her with a few brief moments to take in the scene. Hopefully Geist wouldn’t mind her turning her head. It only took a few seconds to confirm her suspicions. It was hard to make out who was who given the distance, but she spied seven people on the playing field. The eight was either in the robot or out of sight, controlling it wirelessly. In other words, there were no sneak attacks headed their way.
That meant she could breathe a sigh of relief once the game restarted. For half a second, she was allowed to relax – then the boy placed a hand on her, and she sprung to attention. Her eyes darted to the space where his radiator palm had been, only for her to realise that it was nothing to worry about. “Right, cool… Wait, what?” The girl blinked. ‘Princess’ was a failed attempt to mock her, but Pumkin? It almost sounded like a nickname. She’d never been blessed with one from a real person, and just like that, he’d dropped one on her.
Her eyes lit up, and her hand shot skywards. “Good luck! Take care! Have fun! But I know you will already.” Her arm waved back and forth as her new best buddy set off. “Oh…! And if you get the flag and I’m open, go long!” Both hands went up at that, sending the boy on his way. Hopefully he would leave quickly, leaving her and her goofy smile to their own devices.

Combat Lesson: Block Fort Flag Brawl
|
words: 551 tag: @alexander notes: Hello new teammate!
|
Sean was almost feeling bored. No one was coming to attack at the moment, so there was not much that the blue-haired boy could do but keep a lookout. Still, this wasn't too bad. Although it was unlikely, Sean hoped that the other teams would finish each other off first before coming for Blue Fort. That way, Sean could preserve his quirk for as long as possible. Sean looked at the wet floor of the base. Hopefully the water would not evaporate too quickly.
Suddenly, Geist-sensei's voice startled Sean, who was not expecting it at all. However, once he heard the reason why the exercise was halted, Sean began to worry. Oh no! What happened to Saionji? Was he hurt badly? Did Sean screw up big time by letting him take on the other teams without backup? Seeing the helicopter take away Saionji, Sean hoped that the guy would make a speedy recovery.
At the same time, Sean could not help but be curious about who would replace Saionji. After all, it was clear that the exercise would go on. Seeing that his new teammate was none other than Alex Deraine put a slight smile on the boy's face. It had been several months since he met the guy. It would be nice to have a chat again sometime. Unfortunately, now was not that time.
Sean greeted Alex in his usual fashion of a smile and wave of his hand. "Hey, how's it going? Man, I hope Saio- I mean Blazing, is going to be okay." Sean had almost forgotten Geist-sensei's rule of addressing teammates by their hero names. Speaking of hero names, Sean did not know what Alex's hero name was. If he ever did mention it in the student chat, Sean was not there to see it. Hopefully Alex would tell him so that it would not remain a problem. "Well it's a good thing we get to work on the same team. You can rely on Tsunami to help keep the flag away from the other teams! And I know I can rely on you!"
With what little time they had, it was best to start talking strategy. "So I'm just preserving my quirk for now, but the moment anyone else comes, I'll have a water wall ready to guard our flag. Oh, and tell me if any of the water is in the way so I can move it for you. Last thing I want is for you to slip." It seemed like a solid enough plan to work with, but Sean was curious to see if Alex had any suggestions or ideas of his own. "Do you have any ideas for strategy? I'm all ears if you do." If Alex had any plans, Sean would listen. After all, working together and listening to one another was vital to making sure that Blue Team was successful.
Keeping watch on the bridges and stairs, Sean noticed that someone was getting very close to blue fort. However, it seemed as though her focus was on Alex rather than Sean. Still, the blue-haired boy did not want to take any chances. Keeping a close eye on her while doing his best to continue watching the bridges, Sean was ready to reactivate his quirk should Heidi start to get too close.
Sean's greeting his new teammate and using what time they have to talk strategy. In the meantime, he noticed Heidi getting close to Blue Fort. Although he's merely only observing her actions for now, he will activate his quirk and form the water wall as quickly as he can if she gets too close.
However, because Sean is focusing on Heidi at the moment, he will be slow to react if anyone else comes in to blue fort.

Well, this was unexpected. Alex had signed up for the combat lesson just a hair later than he needed to, but once he looked again to see the roster he wasn’t exactly sorry about it. It wouldn’t be wrong for someone to point out that the delinquent had never engaged in even one combat exercise with Jasmine Noir… and it wouldn’t be wrong for someone to point out that it seemed to be on purpose. It wasn’t out of fear, though! It was just smart! If he was at zero wins and thirty-two losses to Darren currently, then it was just smart to go out and wait until he could score some wins against his classmate before he went knocking on the door of people who could beat the leader of the martial arts club! It made perfect sense! It wasn’t cowardice, it was strategy! Either way, though, when Geist-sensei texted him he wasn’t exactly far away. He was on Ground Alpha setting up more goodies for Hero Operations, and when he said a fucking helicopter was going to pick him up… Well, what the hell kind of teenage delinquent would he be if he said no to an action movie helicopter entrance? He was given a blue bandana, which he tied to his forehead as the most obvious place to put it. His teammate was Sean Mizushima, who he kind of knew from U.A. chat and an earlier encounter with him and Chise… oof, the delinquent physically cringed at that memory. He had tried to block it out of his mind as one of those embarrassing things that just happened to new people at school. The girl probably still hated his guts for that incident, and he wouldn’t exactly blame her for it either. The blue-haired boy waved and greeted Alex, and the American flashed the surfer a smile as he dropped down onto the wet platform and got down to business. ”Ah, so we’re doing the hero name stuff. Mine’s Fenrir, it’s supposed to be ‘cause of the armor but I didn’t have time to grab it, so I’m stuck in the gym uniform for this one.” were the first words out of the delinquent’s mouth as a reply to Sean—Tsunami. That was actually a cool name for a water-based hero, he had to admit. He didn’t know exactly what it did, but he had the general gist of Tsunami’s quirk from the whole Quirk Enhancement Drug situation where he attacked a teacher with water while high out of his mind. ”Nah, you got a good strategy. We need to lose our flag to get knocked out, so waiting here is just fine.”Alex didn’t need to move his body for his quirk to activate, so he was free to set himself directly behind the flag and decided to pre-emptively rip all the shadows around while they weren’t exactly under pressure. The flag, Sean, and Alex’s own shadows served as a decent enough base. He attempted to slam his quirk down into the fort beneath him to carve out a nice pair of openings for his feet, ankles, and calves so that any concussive force wouldn’t knock him off the stage. It also provided just a bit more shadow that was more protected than the rest on account of being in a hole. ”I’m not very fast, but my shadow quirk has one hell of a long range. I’m fine just chilling out here until someone comes to us. I’m not too sure on everyone’s quirk here, but if it works out for you when someone comes I can run offense and you can run defense. If someone comes up with fire or anything else that can create light, though, I’m gonna need a little bit of help. There’s a decent space behind me, and even a really thin layer of water would really help if we got a lightbulb running at us if you could do it, I’m not really sure how your quirk works but I’m assuming that’s why the whole platform is wet. It just needs to be thick enough to make a shadow and not move around too much. If they bum rush with a lot... I wonder if I can break that bridge.”There was a pause, then, as a tendril of shadow wandered over to the very edge of the bridge to red base – where all the current action seemed to be concentrated. With enough strength to cut iron, the delinquent did an exploratory slash. Even if he was able to cut through the material, it wouldn’t damage the integrity of the bridge. This was just checking to see if he could, and if he could then he absolutely would abuse that later on. Announcing the results of this little experiment, though, would have to be delayed. He heard a female voice calling out from below and readied himself for a fight. When the girl reached the top of the stairs, though, there was nothing. Alex did two things before he responded, and both were done at roughly the same time. The first of these things was to secure his footing, because even with the holes he made for his feet he was still in danger of getting blown off from a strong enough blast of energy. So, he used the shadow in the little hole to create what were essentially straps that dug into the ground and would secure him from getting blasted off. The second thing he did, and he would do this every few seconds, would be to glance towards Red Fort where most of the action seemed to be taking place and Green Fort on the upper level bridges. He was definitely expecting this to be a distraction for some form of attack, or for the blue-haired girl who just walked up to have some wicked quirk to give her a reason to be this confident. For now, though, since she was kinda cute Alex was more than willing to sit back and chat for now. ”Hey Heidi! I think we’re supposed to use the whole hero name thing for this exercise, though. Don’t wanna make the spooky shadow teacher angry with us now do we?”Action Summary: Shadows from Alex, Sean, Flag, and 2 slightly bigger than foot sized holes in the ground primed and ready for use. Attack to bridge leading to Red Flag to see if he could cut it, even if successful won’t cause any movement in the bridge. When Heidi is noticed, small shadow constructs that are hidden in the hole where his feet are located emerge and further secure Alexander’s footing to make sure he doesn’t get blasted off the platform. He is also looking towards the Red/Green Fort and the upper bridges every few seconds, expecting an attack.

For fuck's sake...
It could be said that Jasmine was getting positively livid based on how this was turning out. At first she was fighting one dude. He ran. A little irritating, she had to admit, but it was whatever. Then she attacked some other kid... and was effectively interrupted by none other than Haruuhi and her robot dude of a friend. Again, irritating, but... heck yeah, finally! An actual challenge! Haruuhi was definitely going to fight her with this thing, right? Right! So when Jasmine begun hammering away at the damn thing's arm, you can be sure there was a moment where excitement positively overflowed from the blonde lioness.
...only to be shattered the second Haruuhi decided she wanted none of it.
Ember - and the robot's entire arm - were sent flying across the air in a glorious wreck and a series of explosion. Anger overflowed, but Noir managed to think fast despite how much red she was seeing by that point. Actually, she used that anger to fuel her next actions as she utterly decimated the severed metallic arm in an attempt to free herself, releasing a wave of explosions as she spun in mid air. Growling, snarling and muttering all sorts of indecencies under her breath, Jasmine set her sights on her next target.
If this one ran again, there would be hell to pay.
Redirecting herself through the use of her explosions, Jasmine was getting pissed off that the only thing that was even remotely tiring her out was the fact that she was basically flying from one side of the map to the other without much to show for it. Her teeth grinding against one another, she directed her frame towards the ground. With both hands aimed behind herself, she launched herself downwards. Then, using that momentum to carry her, the blonde lioness extended both of her arms around her, channeling a sizable amount of C2N14x which she begun releasing in waves, spinning as she flew downwards in a glorious flurry of chaos.
"I'm not invisible this time, eyes up, nerd!" She growled as she approached approached Saito. Using the momentum her descent created to further enhance her attack, she swung her arm down on him, launching a massive explosion crashing down on him, the strength of which would also double back as a defensive measure as it would push her backwards a good few feet.
NOTE: Yes, she did just Howitzer Impact Saito. Just, y'know, based on the capabilities of her quirk.
