“Come on, you stupid piece of junk!” Emi rapped her knuckles against the computer monitor, which unsurprisingly did nothing to turn on the monitor. The computer lab would be considered good by most students’ standards, but Emi was all too used to her home set up. It took a good set-up to run the software needed to livestream and edit high-quality videos, if you didn’t want to grow a beard waiting for work to render. By comparison, the computers at UA were perfectly fine… If you just needed to make a presentation for class. Emi’s demands and attempts to install her editing set-up had caused the display to freeze and go dark within minutes, which did nothing to improve her mood.
While Emi was usually all smiles, frustration had pulled that upside down. It wouldn’t take long for any visiting students to figure out why – her camera was connected to the computer, which meant she’d started importing videos onto the desktop. A crash risked her losing a whole day’s worth of work. She couldn’t just leave to find help, either. What if one of the poor kids tried to steal her camera? Not an option – all she could do was wait for fate to take pity on her and send her a hero. “Any time today would be great,” she muttered under her breath, to fate or to the computer. Probably both. Whatever it was, it seemed as if Emi’s afternoon was going to be spent waiting on ‘faulty tech’. |
