Emi had to admit, the academy’s facilities weren’t half bad. She’d had high expectations for the ‘revolutionary school’, and they were being half-met. Nothing in the gymnasium looked like it was about to fall apart; if anything, the set-up was well looked-after. Then again, with all the punishment they’d have to endure from young quirk-users, it wasn’t too surprising that the institution had splurged for good stuff. They’d even hung targets from the walls and ceiling for students to practice their aim. It was perfect. Her combat experience was close to none, but marksmanship? She could show that off, no problem.
If there was a gym uniform, Emi had conveniently forgotten to wear it. In its place, she’d worn her running gear – a black tank top and leggings, accented by streaks of rose gold. It was a lot less stylish than she was used to, but it was practical. Not that there was anybody around to comment on her appearance – she’d visited the gym before the school day had started, giving her all the space she needed to improve. She moved from a gentle walk and into a run, staring at a target on the wall, dead ahead. No problem for her. A jagged white rock began to form from thin air, keeping to her side as she ran. With every step, the construct grew in size and structure; in the space of a few metres, it was unmistakably a crystalline cone, spike pointing forward. With a thought, it was fired ahead of her. Bullseye, but that was no surprise to her, nor was it too useful. In a real fight, nobody was going to sit tight and wait for her to aim.
She’d had to do better. As she rounded a corner, a wave of her hand ripped the projectile from the target, pulling it back to her side. Barely a second passed before it was off again, flung to the opposite end of the hall. It hit its mark, but only on the outer rings the target. A second crystal was created to follow suit, with improved result – almost a perfect hit. Almost. She pulled a frown, but didn’t slow her pace. Eventually, running around the gym’s perimeter brought her closer to her creations, so she could pull them free and move to the next target. It seemed that that was how Emi was set to spend her morning – running around a quiet arena, throwing crystals one at a time to targets that couldn’t fight back, until she grew tired or bored. It wasn’t the most fascinating of exercises, but it was all she could think to do.

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ She had gone for her daily run or well it had to be daily but she noticed that she was getting a bit lazy considering the weather. She had been on her daily route through when it started to rain very hard. As she was close to the school she decided to get to there but as she did not feel like entering the main building, who knew who you could bump into? So she had decided to go to the sports facilities and see if she could do something more. She had decided to listen to the advice she had gotten and to work on her quirk lately, not only in classes, albeit she was afraid to do something wrong, it was better to be one step ahead of that.
When she thought that the gymnasium would be empty, she opened the door softly still and noticed someone there. She closed the door as softly behind her as well and let her eyes follow the person darting around. She had no idea who she was, so probably from another class. For some reason, the girl looked familiar but perhaps did that have to do with seeing so many faces at ones and through the whole day that she did not remember correctly anymore. Yumi had the same thing with her when they met at Semper Fi.
She shivered, thank god she had been here quickly even with the rain but she felt that she was dripping from her hair and went to lean against the door post, she should say something, she reminded how rudely she had felt about herself when she did this at the music room. She had to do so many things, like practising the violin, she shook her head. "H-Hi?" She said, she did not want to sound nervous, but it was the risks she considered to say hi to someone who was lost in thoughts and concentration. She might make a mistake now. |

She was in the zone. Running down the length of the gym with her back to the door, she hadn’t noticed a lone student slipping into the room. She stretches her arms out on either side of her, with a spike hovering two feet above them. A few steps gave her time to aim. She crossed her arms, forming an ‘X’ over her chest, and the projectiles were launched, crossing to the opposite side of her as they shot forward. The echoes of a strange voice reached her as the spikes left her sphere of influence, distracting her just enough to disrupt her control. One of the spikes hit their mark; the other barely missed the same target. She slowed to a halt and whipped her head around to find the source of the noise.
Mildly annoyed eyes fell upon a girl watching her from the doorway. She couldn’t have been much older than Emi, and she’d let herself get caught out in the rain. On the other hand, Emi had barely broken a sweat. If she was the judge, she’d declare herself the cuter of the two. More importantly, she looked harmless. Then again, so did Emi, when she wasn’t using her quirk. Either way, she wiped the irritation from her face put on a small smile and waved in the girl’s directions. “Hey! Something wrong?” She raised her voice, though she was fairly certain that the echoes would carry her words. “I don’t have a spare umbrella, if that’s what you’re looking for. Or were you hoping this place would be empty?” Too bad, she thought. She’d found it first, and she wasn’t planning to give it up.

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ With the Semper Fi moment going on, Rowan had realized she was more lost than anything about what she wanted to do or what she should do. Not trying to hide was one thing but not wanting to be the odd one out because a lot of things she did not understand, made it impossible to do so. How could you pretend to be well what would the right word be? A normally functioning human being, albeit a bit special with a quirk when you did not even understand the purpose of hanging out, did not know games like metris or something like that. She did learn how to surf, did learn how to figure out a lot of things but that did not make it even easier. She surely needed to do a lot of things before she felt like she was secure in the idea. Her thoughts had gone to the conversation with Maxi, to the meeting with Yumi and yet she still did not feel any more secure than before the military opened its arms for them to see what would go on there.
The thing was that the blackout at the mall had not helped as well, the fact that she had these vague questions about the military after she met the stranger, they did not introduce each other and she would probably never see him again but was everything connected? Probably not, she was just getting paranoid. Which seemed to be one of the thousand troubles that she gave herself. Now she even looked like a lost kitten as she had just run through the rain in her sports legging and t-shirt, her hair in a bun but it was almost falling out of it as it was now dripping a bit. The reason why she went to the training facilities is because she actually did not want anyone to see her like this nor did she feel like seeing anyone at this point and discuss why she wasn' t at the military place yet, she remembered how Elise said it.
She felt cold, which was strange for the spark user but she also felt bad when there was somewhere there, running around and seemingly in her element. She finally mentioned saying hello, albeit stupidly but that was normal so Rowan had given up on saying something dumb against herself or roll her eyes. She would manage. She should have shut her mouth and get out, she did not know this girl and she wasn't sure if she had wanted to meet, the annoyed look in her eyes was clearly visible even though Rowan stood by the door. Perhaps it was only because of the fact that it reminded her of herself when she was home. The annoyance disappeared rather fast though but Rowan couldn't help and hold on to her assumption, a bad thing she did more often. "Oh, no." What should she say, "I just thought to stop by for the rain, see if there was anyone I knew." Which was a bullshit reason, if this girl had not been here, she might have worked on her quirk. She rubbed her upper arms with her bare hands, which warmed it a little thanks to how she worked albeit her quirk. Because if she did not train, it would not really mean she would get better and she would stay in this slump for forever. That idea was simply disgusting. |

‘Harmless’ was her initial assessment of the girl. She’d met quite a cast of characters despite being new to the school. Insane boys, static sportsmen, obnoxious delinquents, but the girl was something else entirely. Every student she’d come to know thus far had energy. Even if she didn’t get along with all of them, they shared her vigour, or at least tried to match it. Which made it all the more jarring that this girl… didn’t. She wasn’t just harmless, she quickly decided, but she wasn’t quite sure what she was. A lack of social experience made it hard to tell.
Still, she could find out. She raised her hand behind her head, snapping her fingers as if she were summoning a waiter. Of course, there was nobody at her beck and call, but her construct was more than happy to answer. Two crystalline spikes wedged themselves free of the target behind her, flying to either side of her so she could tuck one under each arm. With each of them being the length of her forearm, it was a bit of an awkward fit, but they didn’t stop her from walking forward, spikes pointed away from the girl. It was all for theatrics – she didn’t need a gesture for simple movement, nor did she need the spikes at all, but it helped to make a lasting impression.
The frown had returned, but it wasn’t one of annoyance. She regarded the girl as if she were a crossword, trying to make sense of her. “Hopeless presentation, shy demeanour, wandering aimlessly…” She muttered to herself, but with the room’s echoes and her general lack of awareness, perhaps the target of her stare could pick something up. With six feet between the top, she stopped, letting out a gentle sigh. Nonchalant words left her mouth soon after.
“Well, I’ll tell you one thing. I might be new here, but I know a few things about being a hero. You’ve got to make yourself sound way more confident than that if you’re going to be a pro. Right now, you look like you’d let me walk all over you. Do you think the cameras are going to love you if you act like you’re ready to run away from it?” More obliviousness, or an attempt to draw some fire out of the girl? “Side note, remember to carry an umbrella around. It’s autumn, and you don’t look foreign enough to not know how hard it rains in Japan.” She looked the girl up and down. “Or maybe it’s just the rain getting you down. Either way, that ‘see if anybody’s around?’” A pause. “Wouldn’t you have just left after you poked your head in? I don’t know anybody else around here with pink hair.”
That settled it, in her mind. There was more to the stranger’s story, and from the looks of it, it wasn’t good. Fortunately, she’d met a young lady that preferred to think of ‘prying’ as ‘caring curiosity’. “Whatever.” She shrugged. “Not my problem now, is it? After all, I’m not someone you know. But I could be!” Finally, upturned lips – an inquisitive smirk, and a raised eyebrow to go with it. “Besides, it looks to me like you could use an ear, or a shoulder. I needed a break anyway.”

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ What she should really do was turn around and walk out again, she was already socked to the bone, so what did it matter to go outside again and back home. She might have tried to grab a shower here but she had no tower or alternative clothing, so that did not matter anymore either way. She just felt forlorn with the other girl over there standing there like some fashionista that Rowan did not know nor cared about at this point now that she was dripping. The idea of working on her quirk came from random things, the blackout, the talk with Maxi and the idea of the conversation with the stranger. Yet she still felt as far from being heroic as before and still very uncertain about actually being here. Not that she planned to tell this girl who looked topnotch in her way of handling herself.
At least for what Rowan had seen for the first few minutes. She felt obnoxious, which she did not like, she also felt absolutely idiotic which she didn't like as well but had happened on many first meetings, that she had given up on the idea. She stared with her golden eyes at what the girl was doing, the spikes were quite big and Rowan had no idea what the substance was that they were made off. What did it matter if she did not like the girl or the girl did not like her, first of all, they were not in the same class and second, in the end, they would figure out how to work with any other hero if Rowan still decided to become one. She also felt bad for judging, it was probably because she looked so confident that her jealousy took the better hand of her. She wished she looked that great right now instead of completely rained down. Rowan wondered what the girl wanted with those spikes but she decided to get a bit away from the doorpost as it was getting cold with the wind behind it and she went to sit on the bench next to it. She could always just go home. She raised her eyebrow as she heard her muttering but she wasn't entirely sure if she would understand what she meant. It was also very rude that they had not introduced themselves, from both their sides. Rowan wasn't sure if this was the right moment. She went to take out the hair tie and move her hands through her hair before braiding it. At least that went alright.
She looked up when the girl spoke to her again, letting out a sigh. The cameras? She opened her mouth to say something about the side note, how the hell would you go for a run with an umbrella? She had checked the weather app on her phone but it had said it would not rain for half an hour, that was clearly a lie! "First of all, it is up to me to decide if I want to be a hero or not, I am here for two months and I haven't made up my mind." Though perhaps she really should, "I know that's quite late but well I don't feel like I belong here and yet I want to." She stood up again and stared at the pink haired girl, who dared to make such assumptions about her, "And for your side note, no one goes for a run, you know, with an umbrella, then I could go for a walk, I checked the weather station and it wasn't accurate that's why I missed out. Thirdly, I might not know any other pink haired girls but the way you used I assume your quirk, looked very interesting so sorry for barging in on your whatever you call this training." She crossed her arms in front of her chest, pff, there you go.
She did not understand how she said that she wasn't someone Rowan knew and yet could be. The smirk pushed Rowan in the wrong direction, wait so, it wasn't some sort of blunt oblivious speech to her, it was something to push her into an exploding fashion? Did this girl even know what her quirk was and tried to push her buttons? She felt now a bit bad that she actually had been mean to her too. "I could use a.. an ear I suppose. I am sorry for yelling, it's just not my cup of tea here." She gave a wry smile, "I am sorry, I am Sakamoto Rowan." She decided that an introduction could be in place. Perhaps, she was wrong and she might like this girl. At leas the already felt jealous of her attitude. |

Just as Emi had expected, the girl was in no hurry to leave. That was no problem to her; she was happy to take a break and gather herself. From the sounds of it, she’d need a few minutes to make sense of what the girl was saying anyway. “That sounds a bit… counter-productive. You went to all the hassle of getting enrolled in a hero school, and you’re not sure if you want to be a hero? I’m not following.” She lessened her grip on one spike, letting gravity take hold of it. A foot short of hitting the ground, her quirk took control, stopping a loud thud against the gym’s floor. Both spikes morphed and merged, moving in oddly fluid motions for what was obviously a solid. She formed the crystal into a blocky seat – a large cube made up its base, with a thin backrest. “Sounds like you’ve got some explaining to do,” she added as she made herself comfortable. Her smile never left her; for some reason, she was enjoying this.
She had the courtesy (or curiosity) to let the stranger finish before interrupting again. She was a little surprised to see the girl answer honestly to all her questions. Was she being polite, or just desperate for somebody to listen? Only time and more prodding would tell. Mostly prodding. As always, a compliment made her smile grow, which a look best described as ‘I know’. “Alright, alright.” She waved her hands dismissively. “Don’t worry about the rain stuff, it’s not important. Just try not to do it again. And yeah, my quirk. I know, it’s pretty great. It needs some work, but that’s what I’m here for. Nothing to apologise for, though. This is a public spot and all – I’m just the one using it.” Although if she’d had it her way, ‘Rowan’ wouldn’t have shown up at all, and she would still be running target practice.
“So, go ahead. Shoot. Spill the beans. ...Oh! Right, my name. Emi Ryoko Tachibana. Underdog of UA.” She spoke her self-given title as if it were something to be proud, and as if she looked anything close to a loser. “And its number one vlogger.” By default. “And apparently a counsellor, but hey, heroes are all about helping, right? I’ll just decide if I accept your apology after you tell me what’s up. You don’t actually want to be here, you say?”

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ "It's more that I think I can't be a hero," Rowan said, looking away from Emi because this was quite open for a conversation with a person that she just met. Besides she did not really go through the hassle, it wasn't really a hassle as her mother had fixed most things. She just had to show up on the day of well some sort of inspection and just go to school. She had not even seen the apartment before she got here. She did not feel like making herself sound more stupid than she already did, which was a good saying for something so utterly ridiculous already, "I try to learn much from the classes, but I doubt it is in me to step up and protect or perhaps save people, not that I don't want to." She had a couple of years to learn that, which was good, but would it ever suit her? Rowan spoke about that, not sure how to explain, it was just a feeling, perhaps no one would understand. She did keep her eyes later on Emi to see her reform the crystals she was holding, making it very interesting to wonder about her quirk, but Rowan wasn't a type to ask, someone would have to tell her. This was why she still had no idea of most people their quirk. She only asked Miku and Yumi because curiosity and rescue missions needed that.
Just try to not do it again, wow, that made sense. Of course, Rowan would not want to becaught by surprise by the rain ever again. She might quit running for the winter months, she did not feel like getting into these issues, what if it would hail! "Not everyone would be glad if someone saw them working with their quirk." Perhaps that was more the way of being seen by a quirkless but she just said it, she wasn't entirely afraid of her own because most people would not be surprised, some might be afraid, it stung a bit now that she remembered Masaki looking at her hand as she told him and letting go immediately of it. She did not just randomly explode.
She was also surprised by the title Emi told herself, underdog of UA, what did that mean? She actually did not feel like asking, she would see in the end. "Oh, nice, you vlog about daily life things?" Rowan did not want to talk too much about herself, she gave a short giggle (finally understanding jokes) about the counsellor part. "That would perhaps make it easier for some. It is not as much as not wanting to be here as," Would she finally say it? "Not feeling like I belong here?" |

Emi did her best to make herself comfortable – no easy feat, considering that a crystal chair felt just about as cosy as it looked. Flaunting her talents took priority over comfort when she felt the need to impress… Which was most of the time, now that she had so many people to meet. If she hadn’t given Rowan the impression that she knew what she was doing, the girl never would have spoken her mind so easily, right? She settled for sitting cross-legged in the chair as Rowan shared her woes.
“Don’t worry about the vlog, you can hear all about that later.” It was probably the first time since she had enrolled that she had passed up an opportunity to plug her career, but something told her it wasn’t the best time to share. Then she was quiet. Almost uncharacteristically so. It wasn’t in her nature to share her troubles with strangers, but Rowan going first seemed to be an invitation. Still, to show a hint of weakness, in front of a stranger? That wouldn’t do. So she spoke her mind, but she did so nonchalantly. “Me too. Kind of. Well, there’s no question about whether or not I can be a hero. Of course I can. Do I want to? That’s a whole other bag of worms. Helping means getting hurt and tired. A lot. That’s a lot of effort to put in for a bunch of people that, let’s face it, already have it out for us ‘dirty quirkers’. Not the kind of selfless thought process you want to see in a hero, right?” A shrug gave the impression that she didn’t care, but that was just a part of the act.
“But the way I see it, that’s what I’m here for. I think a lot of people get the idea that this is just where you learn to fight crime and be useful, but that doesn’t sound right, does it? What’s a guy with a quirk that knows how to fight but doesn’t care how they use that power? A vigilante. Or a villain, probably. See what I’m saying?” She nodded to herself. Her words were oddly insightful, even if she was just spilling whatever came to mind first. “So a hero school’s got to teach you more than how to use a quirk, the way I see it. You’ve got to learn why, or you’re not a hero, right? Why you use it, and why you want to help people. If you don’t know that after a few years, then I guess you can say you’re not cut out for it, but until then… Isn’t that what you’re here to learn?”
The smirk returned, and she gave herself a mental pat on the back for being so helpful. “I won’t lie, that’s not all me talking. I felt the same way you did a few weeks ago. Then I met a real pro. Red Horn. You know her, right? Seven feet tall, made of muscles, big old spear on her head?” She made a triangle on her forehead with a pair of fingers, but dropped the act once she realised how silly it looked. “Know what she told me? ‘Don’t worry about it’. And in my head, for a few seconds I was all ‘alright, thanks lady, but easier said than done’, but… It kinda is that easy. The only one holding you back is yourself. Nobody else is telling you you’re shit. Well, hopefully not, and if they are, throw them on the floor.” She chuckled to herself, imagining some unlucky soul getting suplexed for testing her patience.
“And I figure if they let you into this place, then you must have some potential, right?”

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ But talking about herself made things only worse because she would think about too many other issues about herself, Rowan did not like that idea and tried to get to the subject of Emi her vlogging but the pink princess waved that away as if it was nothing. That was another problem, apart from how she was drenched by the water, this girl surely knew what she was doing and Rowan had already a competition with too many people in her mind, how to work out another threat of her own brilliance. Which was sure no longer a radiant star. She was a vlogger, that made things in this competition even worse for Rowan, not ever possible to win. In future thoughts, that might not even be bad, right now, it felt like another disappointment.
The way Emi changed the description of her problem seemed to be a thing Rowan never considered. She would be able to become a hero, else she was probably not being able to keep up with the lessons and that was going alright if she wanted to be one, that was what she kept bumping into. She did not mind to do the good stuff, save people, but that wasn't all the sunshine that was there, there were other things, fighting, dirty allies blabla, would she really have to convince herself? She had time. Helping means getting hurt. IT was not her own voice repeating Emi's words, but she ignored it. Emi did not seem to care and yet The Burning Lady in the back of her mind called her pathetic. First of all, you cry wolf in front of a girl we do not know. Second, puh-lease we are getting power, we don't have to be a hero for that. Just become more powerful is the first step, after that we will see, darling.
Those thoughts did not make her happier but she decided not to say anything about it. She simply looked at Emi, who went on to talk. A vigilante? She surely did not want to become that, how would she hide for society, she would not be good at that. Not in that way at least and a villain sounded even dirtier than being a hero. She decided to just nod along with Emi for now."It is perhaps too early to make decisions when I started months ago, you are right about that." It was another way to look at it. The thoughts the Burning Lady had formed were a bit scary but it was just a thought, she had learned to suppress that ages ago.
The good thing Emi told her was that she thought the same as Rowan, perhaps not so different after all, she smiled back, glad Emi told her and noted the name down mentally, perhaps she would bump into Red Horn at some point. She nodded, she heard about her at least. She nodded again when Emi continued her story about don't worry about it, she also thought that it was easier said than done. She made a soft chuckling noise, no one told her she was shit, apart from The Burning Lady, which she did not consider as herself but to face the facts, she was (not). Only Kanna had more or less said, she should stop with the facade, and she was right but right now, after spilling the beans, Rowan felt still pathetic, she was glad Emi didn't laugh at her but it made her uncomfortable to be so open about what she thought. She wished she would never see Emi again.
"I think my quirk is quite okay, I could, of course, do much better but that's what I am here for." She decided to say, Emi was right, she must have potential unless... it was bad that this crossed her mind, her dad bought her a spot. Was that possible? |

The girl wasn’t talking nearly as much, and to the therapist, that was a good sign. It meant she was spending less time thinking of rebuttals and more time realising that Emi was right. As always. More importantly, Rowan hadn’t taken the opportunity to point and laugh at her woes. That would have ended in a fight (which she was sure she would win). “That’s the spirit. Isn’t that what we’re all here for, really? No matter if you’re some kind of saint, in it for the money, the fame, whatever… You’re not going to make it too far in this school without a strong quirk, or at least enough skill to make up for it. At least, that’s my educated guess. I’m still new and all.”
Thankfully, the girl hadn’t continued moping to her. Emi had done well being ‘nice’ and ‘polite’ to the stranger, but she wasn’t known for her sympathy, or her kind words. Rowan had been a few sentences short of an annoyed groan and some harsh(er) words, but she’d saved them both a bit of trouble by agreeing. “Let me ask you something. If you say you’re not sure about this hero business, why are you here? Like, I’m hearing a bunch of excuses, but nothing really solid. If you really didn’t want to be here, you wouldn’t be trudging around in a gym trying to figure it out. You’d be back at home wherever you came from, sipping on some tea or whatever you do for fun. But you’re not. So I already know you still want to give this a shot, deep down. Sounds like you haven’t figured it out yet, but luckily, you ran into Yuuei’s number one investigator.” She jabbed a thumb against her chest in case it wasn’t obvious enough. “So just… try not putting yourself down so much. It’s not going to do you any good. Just go out in the world and tell everybody Rowan is here, and if they have a problem with it they can fight you there and then. It works pretty damn well for me.” Arguably too well.

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ That explained why Rowan had not seen her before, she was sure a girl like Emi would stick on your mind. She simply nodded, indeed, if she had not a strong quirk she might have not joined at all, because her father would certainly not allow her to join the support studies as well as that he was not happy that she was here in general. With a deep breath, she thought about it some more but the idea was better to not worry about it as Emi had said before. She agreed, unfortunately, and yet luckily, the Burning Lady did not. However, she was not able to talk or show any of this ridiculousness. She wondered who Emi thought she was and how she dared to make such decisions, it did not all turn out to be about being a saint, or money, or fame, it was to show the world who was boss.
She looked up from her thoughts, not noticing she stared at the floor instead of at Emi, for some unknown reason she got a headache right now, she did not know The Burning Lady was pushing her boundaries. Why are you here? That was a good question, and the argument Emi brought up was actually quite a solid one. But she felt so selfish for saying what she thought. She gave a short laugh about the number one investigator, Emi must have a lot of jobs. "Glad I did that." Because it was not laughing at Emi, she did not find it ridiculous, it was more a relieve one, not the upcropping on feelings and soon going to implode.
Where the Burning Lady felt annoyed with the way Emi spoke, she now calmed down, oh but that plan, that was a very nice plan, one she did not mind to fulfil any time soon. "That's why you are practising? So no matter who you face, either classmate or just someone outside?" Rowan did not mean to say that Emi would just randomly fight someone, but you train to overcome obstacles and their classmates were sometimes one in classes. She still not had one where she really had to fight a classmate, at this point it was the boxing with Kirk and the shooting range with Masaki but the boxing had not gone well, it had brought her back to point zero. She just had to keep her goal in mind and at first, that was to get control or no, better control over her quirk and the second was, to show her father that she could be someone, without him. |

“I’m practising because I’m going to be the best student this school’s ever seen.” Cocky, of course, but self-assurance seemed to be one of Emi’s strong points. “But I’ve got a lot of work to do until then. Especially since I joined the school late. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do, but that’s fine. Expected, even. The climb wouldn’t mean anything if it was easy. Besides…” She stretched both arms out behind her head, and her legs out in front of her. Her chair really wasn’t comfortable, but she had already committed to it. “Getting beat up in every single class would just be embarrassing. I’d have to drop out if that happened to me, so I can’t let it come to that. Plus, it means I’m better at making cool things.” Her arms lowered and she patted the side of her chair. “Not everybody can make their quirk into a place to rest, or transport.” The chair shifted forward a few inches with her in it – an interested, if not largely impractical means of moving.
“So… technically, yes. Being the best would mean being able to take on anybody and win, but being a hero’s not just about how many wins you rack up, right? So I want to make sure I know what I can and can’t do with my quirk, and how to work around what I can’t do. I’d rather do it here than with some guy’s fist two inches from my face. Wouldn’t you?” She didn’t need to answer – Emi assumed that a pretty face like hers did its best to avoid fights.

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ "That's a nice thing to consider." She said Rowan lost words in this conversation. At least she felt slightly better now, which was a good thing. Emi was funny in a way that she was so direct and seem to make fun of herself in a positive way. "I joined the school late as well, but I bet you can, you seem very motivated." It was not a pep talk for Emi, that was clearly not necessary or no longer, considering she spoke to Redhorn, Rowan wondered if she would ever meet her.
Rowan tilted her head a little to the left as Emi explained her quirk a bit, making cool things, she could form things thus with the substance, "What is it, the substance I mean?" Because a wild guess might make her come up with anything, if the answer was so easy, she would not have considered it. "But you are right, my quirk is far from that." But that was okay because you needed different quirks in the world, different heroes to make it all work out, right? So you could support each other.
As they continued talking about the training, Rowan nodded, yes, rather no fist fight in her face. Albeit she still had to figure out how her quirk worked into a further aspect of explosions, she had a few ideas at this point but with the demonstrations at semper fi, she wanted to be there and see the things that did interest her. Perhaps that's why it was so empty here and easy for someone to train by their lonesome, which seemed to be a blessing. One day perhaps, Rowan would be here at the right time. She should first figure out what she wanted to know and try out. |

Unsurprisingly, the compliment brought about a look exuding the confidence Rowan spoke of. “There’s a lot to be motivated about. Think about it. If everything goes well, we’ll be this country – no, the world’s first generation of trained pro heroes. The whole world’s going to be looking at us and how we change it. That’s something to be excited for, even if you’re not totally down for all the big hero stuff. Just, to get there, you actually have to be good at your job.”
Her smile faltered for a brief moment as she was asked about her quirk. She hoped that the girl wouldn’t notice the makings of a concerned frown there, but she laughed it off anyway. “Sorry. Old habits. Sometimes I still think it’s meant to be a secret. It’s salt.” She patted a hand against the chair, as if it wasn’t obvious. “Like the kind you put on fries, just… a lot of it, merged into one big crystal. I figure with the right training, I can do a hell of a lot with it. Until then, I keep practicing.” And with that, she pushed herself off the chair, stretching her arms up and out in front of her.
“Which is to say that I’ve been resting for way too long now. You’re joining, right?” A pause. “I mean, after all that talk, you can’t not show me what you’ve got to work with.” She turned away from the girl, using two fingers to beckon towards her chair. As she walked off, her former furniture cracked and shuttered. The pile of shards lay lifeless for all of half a second before she began manipulating them again, returning them to the original form Rowan had eyed. A pair of salt spikes watched over Emi’s shoulders as she glanced back to check on her.
“Besides, I could use some real target practice.” There was that self-assured smirk again. Whether Rowan chose to answer the call or not, Emi and her constructs returned to the centre of the hall, ready for another dozen laps. At the very least, a nice chat offered a break from the monotony that was her regime.
