i wonder how many wishes a star can give Thunderous booms rattled the earth beneath his feet. Only the earplugs and earmuff combo he wore saved him from a lifetime of hearing loss, while his tinted goggles protected his eyesight. He and Mr. Shinichi were going for a second round of armory adventures. They walked single file, the engineer at the lead, through the zone dedicated to explosives testing. Glass blast panels separated the experimenters from the experiments. After every car or fake house erupted into a cloud of flames, Kutsu noticed the onlookers raise their fists in triumph, most likely cheering if his ears weren’t totally blocked right now. Eventually, the duo entered a facility far from the action, allowing them both a chance to put aside the hearing protection that rendered verbal communication ineffective. "If you could, please try not to touch anything."His host cast furtive glances at the blue-haired boy, whose hands were already outstretched and ready to peer inside a cardboard box sitting on the lab table. Kutsu froze, then sheepishly retreated, stowing away his fidgety fingers. Mr. Shinichi motioned a soldier to bring forth a metal case. With a click, he parted the two halves to reveal several cartridges nested within black foam, molded perfectly to shape. The man gingerly plucked out a yellow cylinder, no bigger than a fat glue stick. "This is designed for unidirectional blasts," explained the engineer. He tapped one of its circular faces, shaded a dark grey. "It limits the blast to this end, creating a big fiery stream instead of an amorphous cloud."The blue-haired guest widened his eyes, then reached out to take it. Surprisingly, he met no resistance, so he twirled the explosive around in his palms. After a while, it emitted a high-pitched beep. Kutsu yelped and let the item clatter to the floor, heart racing miles a second as the expected boom failed to occur. The military men burst into hysterics. The boy frantically looked around the room, more distraught than embarrassed. "Don't worry, these are empty," gasped one of the privates, wiping at an imaginary tear. Mr. Shinichi cleared his throat and picked the cartridge off the concrete. "An accelerometer measures its movements. It's programmed to go off after detecting a specific motion pattern. In this case," he spun the cylinder again like a barbershop pole, "A 360 degree rotation about its central axis."The boy scratched his head. This was awfully more high tech than he imagined, but maybe it was for the better. "Can you change the pattern?" he asked innocently. The engineer nodded fervently, eager to go into depth. "Oh yes, you can reprogram these very easily, just tap here." He placed a bony fingertip to a capacitive touch button, which lit up green to signal a new mode. Brain fighting hard to understand all the bells and whistles cranked out from years of national defense funding, Kutsu just smiled and nodded. He opened his mouth to ask another question when the facility doors creaked open. He turned to see the newcomer. "Hi! Are you a Yuuei student too?" he chirped. She looked around his age, hopefully not a member of the military so young. Given the opportunity that was handed to the school, it wouldn't be strange to run into more students here.

To call Tetsuko's current expedition 'leaving her comfort zone' would be no small understatement.
Tetsuko Shindou had been, for all her life, a swordswoman. She was born in the small city of Kashima, where sword style had flourished and developed for centuries on end, the very same city that housed the Kashima shrine to guardian deities of the martial arts, whose guidance and tutelage had lead to the founding of those many styles. She had been raised in the Shindou family, prolific swordsmen and women of generations, who sought to bring their own interpretation of Kashima Shinden Jikishinkage-Ryuu to its greatest heights. Ever since she was a young girl, Tetsuko had held the blade in the highest regard, learning to wield it with utmost skill and precision, in the hopes that she might one day make her family proud with her own additions to the style.
Swordsmanship had a lasting impact on Tetsuko's life, or rather, her dedication in the art and all it taught had played no small part in molding her into the girl she was today. Tetsuko was not defined by this interest of hers, but her single-minded focus in pursuing it certainly shaped her. The point of this whole long-winded spiel was not to say that Tetsuko Shindou was a proficient swordswoman, evident though that may be, but rather, that she was rather inefficient when it came to other weaponry, particularly modern ones!
Other historical weapons such as spears and axes such weren't terribly foreign to her, but when it came to more modern creations like firearms, Tetsuko was... Kind of hopeless. Of course, she understood how they worked to a high enough degree in hopes of being able to deal with them as an opposition, but when it came to using them, well... She considered herself more likely to shoot her own foot rather than any designated target. This inexperience of hers in a very useful and modern tool had only been shown further by Elise's proficiency in firearms, prompting Tetsuko to seek out her own potential training...
And thus, Tetsuko had learned of a particularly interesting possibility within the military camp, to do with something her Quirk could definitely have potential in if she managed to master it. After all, even learning the physics and methodology behind such a delicate art could be extremely beneficial! And so it was that Tetsuko was off toward the armory during one of her regular forays into this camp, strolling into the building only to find she wasn't the only student who'd seen potential in this training.
"Ah, hello." Tetsuko would say with a hint of surprise at the boy's sudden cordiality. She gave a small bow in greeting. "Uh, yeah, I'm a student too. I'm Tetsuko Shindou, of 1-B, it's nice to meet you." The swordswoman would greet, before walking forward and likely hearing the other boy's introduction. He had a somewhat striking appearrance, and Tetsuko was curious about his own reasons for being there, but for now, didn't interrupt the proceedings any further.

i wonder how many wishes a star can give He smacked himself on the head with his palm. “Where are my manners!” he cried, hastily returning the girl’s bow with his own. “I’m in 1-C. Kutsushita Ito, but feel free to call me Kutsu.”Internally, he celebrated. Navigating an interplay between himself and these rowdy soldiers daunted him. Not only was he outnumbered, but he also trailed behind in confidence and thickness of skin. After their unfiltered reaction to his clumsiness, the boy hesitated to stay subject to their teasing. For this, he beamed at the arrival of a fellow first-year, someone he could rely on as an emotional anchor. In a dual-purpose move to better acquaint himself with the girl, as well as dodge conversation with the uniformed posse, he swiped the cylindrical weapon out of Mr. Shinichi's palms. "Hey, check out this cool bomb they gave me!" he blurted out, handing said item to Tetsuko. He turned slightly to point at the briefcase lying open on the table behind him. "This one's empty right now, but they have a lot of different types over there." Offering her an encouraging smile, he waved her over to get a closer view beside him. Inside, more cartridges were spread on display. Among them sat a red sphere, a green cube, and a purple pyramid, each no bigger than a fist. The engineer opened his mouth to launch into a long-winded spec sheet rundown, but Kutsu managed to force a word in before he could. "By the way, Tetsuko, what are you doing here in the armory?" he continued. He picked up an orange hemisphere from the case and eyed it carefully, squinting hard at the faint circuitry threading just below the surface. "I'm looking for upgrades to my quirk," came his own explanation for being here. "I use grenades sometimes, but I don't think I can use them properly."Though he's never had to trigger them ever since his first and only field test, some of his toys currently housed cartons of chemical energy inside their stuffed bodies. Carrying explosives on his person in class seemed unwise, and letting them park at home wracked his nerves. Thankfully, his school provided a small vault of sorts as storage. They'd be no good in there if a real emergency arose, however. Plus, the fickle nature of a pin running around on the battlefield felt way too untrustworthy. So when he caught wind of the military's more reliable products, he was first in line to try them out. As he spoke, the backpack he carried began to wriggle. A cotton paw poked out from underneath the flap cover, and after a brief battle with the drawstrings, a teddy bear fell to the ground. He hopped onto his back two legs, adopted a creepily humanoid stance, then wobbled over to latch onto Tetsuko's leg. Something suddenly inspired the chihuahua-sized bundle to treat the girl as a climbing tree, inching upward until he took a moment's rest. Kutsu shook his head at the plushie. White with pink polka-dots, this little guy didn't know how to keep still. "Sorry about that," he sighed, folding his arms over his chest. "That's Bubblegum. I need to teach him a thing or two about personal space."Light gasps erupted around them. The soldiers, previously goofing off, started tugging at each other and pointing to the animated figure wrapped around the girl's knee. Kutsu scratched his head. He could've sworn he told them this would happen, but in the end, quirks remained a novelty.

A pleasant enough young man, that was Tetsuko’s first impression upon ‘Kutsu’s cheerful and playful self-introduction. For someone like Tetsuko, so concerned with security and trust, first impressions like that mattered more than a little. ”Don’t worry about, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Kutsu-san.” Although it seemed this nickname was how he preferred to be called, Tetsuko kept the honorific attached, an old habit and a simple gesture of respect that had been drilled into her from a young age.
It was indeed a boon, having another student there for her excursion into this delicate and destructive art. There was strength in numbers, after all, and it meant neither of them had to worry about feeling too out of place or unwelcome. Although, it did seem like Kutsu was more in need of such an anchor than Tetsuko, as the Shindou girl was a tad more composed and prouder, at least outwardly.
The scar-faced lad broke the ice in a rather strange manner, suddenly showing off his own little toy. A bomb. Tetsuko’s eyes widened, taken aback at the site. This wasn’t the first bomb she’d seen, thanks to Elise dragging her around the armoury on multiple occasions, but right then was the closest she’d ever been to one. Such an unthinkably destructive and deadly weapon, yet Kutsu so innocently described it as cool! ”I-I see…” Tetsuko replied, taking it into her hands carefully before Kutsu explained it was empty. Would’ve been nice to start with that, she thought. The odd boy pointed out the different types nearby, Tetsuko turning her head toward the different shaped cartridges, each presumably with their own usage.
”So I guess that’s the ‘ammo’ to this…” Tetsuko observed, still trying to grasp all the technology around her. She wasn’t exactly the most technologically minded person, something else she sought to remedy by exposure to all this high-tech equipment. While she examined the weapon Kutsu had handed her, the boy blurted out a question this time, answering it himself as he examined one of the ‘shapes’. ’So he’s a grenadier then…’ Tetsuko thought to herself, before answering his query. ”I’m just here to learn a bit about the craft, I guess.” She’d utter with a shrug. ”I’m a bit more… Old fashioned with my own arms and armour, so I figured it’d be beneficial to learn more about modern weapons. So I can figure out how to respond to them and incorporate them into my own skills.” She was rather open, and saw no reason not to be. Her ability was her pride, after all. Still somewhat intrigued by the boy’s choice of weapon, Tetsuko decided to pose her own question in response.
”I’ve met quite a few weapon wielders, but never a grenadier… Is it a difficult art?” She inquired curiously. Bombs and grenades were more about the technology behind them and how it was used rather than skill and technique, so she was interested to hear his take on it. It was as he gave his presumed answer that Tetsuko continued fiddling with the ‘husk’ of the bomb she’d been handed, trying to figure out many of the different bits and pieces through sight alone.
It was during this distraction that she suddenly felt something soft on her leg. Figuring she’d just got it caught on something, Tetsuko would raise her leg only to notice a teddy bear clinging to it… Her eyes widened with surprise, momentarily stunned as she wondered if what she was seeing was reality, before Kutsu finally clarified. As with many strange things in that day and age, the conclusion Tetsuko reached was the easiest one: This was to do with his Quirk.
”Oh, uh, no worries. It’s nice to meet you, Bubblegum.” Tetsuko would greet with a bow of her head, placing her foot down and unsure how to proceed. He seemed harmless, so she saw no reason to shoo him off for now… Besides, he was rather cute! ”I’m… Guessing this is your Quirk?” Tetsuko would say with a half-smile, still a bit befuddled and keeping an eye on the agitated soldiers, but ultimately curious nonetheless. He’d mentioned only moments earlier that he used grenades with his Quirk, so now Tetsuko was wondering how the hell that worked.
Then again, a battalion of teddy grenadiers… Did sound strangely effective…

i wonder how many wishes a star can give The way she spoke was so strangely dignified, it almost made him too embarrassed to respond. Her smile was polite, her expression quite receptive, and the poise with which she carried herself gave an air of royalty. Normally, this level of formality unnerved him, but he felt rather at ease meeting her. If he had to guess, his previous encounters with uptight personalities tended to be stuff. Here, however, he couldn’t catch a whiff of distrust. No closed doors or raised walls. Perhaps it was her calmness that helped. A composure that said she had nothing to hide. Even when startled she was calm. Did that even make sense? Although her reaction stayed mild, he did make a mental note that a sudden show-and-tell may not be the best way to set the mood, especially when explosives were involved. He did wonder if this was her first time handling a bomb. The fact she entered this building implied she wasn’t scared of them, but anyone unfamiliar with this type of weapon would certainly flinch upon contact with one. Her reason for being here confirmed some of his suspicions, that for her, bombs were somewhat of a mystery. “That’s pretty smart.” He had to admire her logic. “I’m not sure what ‘old-fashioned’ means, but based on what the military’s doing, everything’s gonna be old-fashioned soon, huh?” When both biology and technology advanced faster than society could keep up, making an effort to dive into the unfamiliar was crucial for maintaining the upper hand. He thought about his own case, if there were fighting styles or weaponry he needed to watch out for. Visuals of waterworks flooded his brain, whole armies of incapacitated plushies being washed away from battle. Yep, counters were definitely worth investigating. His inner musings skidded to halt upon hearing the term she used for him. Hands waved frantically in front of him, as if waving away misunderstanding. “I can’t call myself a grenadier,” he laughed, slightly nervous about other false impressions he may have to dispel. “I keep some on hand for emergencies, but my partners do the actual work.” While his arsenal did include toys that went boom, he’d never had to deploy them beyond the testing phase. He was only a student, after all. Engaging villains was for pros. Destructive force in the wrong hands was recipe for disaster. To clarify what he meant by “partners,” he crouched down and plucked Bubblegum off her leg. He cradled him in the crook of his arm and nodded at her correct guess. “Yep, exactly. When I hit them with my tears, they start to move on their own.” He pointed at a bottle of liquid clipped to his belt. Despite her openness, he hesitated to reciprocate. It wasn’t just tears. Originally, that was all he knew, but one day, an accidental cut caused a drop of blood to land on a bear. The resulting puppetry prompted him to try other possible carriers of his quirk, but to be honest, that wasn’t a story he was willing to share right now. Or ever. As she fiddled with the case, he leaned in a little closer to see what she was inspecting. The form factor was incredibly misleading, with curves and lights that evoked a playful feel instead of a deadly one. If Kutsu possessed higher critical thinking skills, he might’ve considered this design sinister. “I’m trying to teach these little guys how to use new types of bombs. Otherwise, they explode along with them.” Seeing their innards rain down in charred pieces was not a pleasant experience. “And I’m bored out of my mind.” He turned to find a young private wearing an increasingly mischievous smirk. The brazen lad stepped forward and slammed the briefcase shut with a loud thud. “How about instead of yapping, we get to testing?” Jabbing over his shoulder with a pointed thumb, he drew their attention to the other side of the facility. Along the wall was a window that peered into a separate room. Beside it was the door that led inside. Kutsu gulped, then hugged Bubblegum a little tighter. The engineers had promised the plushie wouldn’t get damaged, but they also advised him to bring multiple. Mixed messages ramped up his worry. He did want to experiment with these upgrades, but at the same time, he felt a lot of pressure to make a good show of it. The military invited them for research purposes. He didn’t want them to witness a dud. Pivoting back to Tetsuko, he tried to displace some of the attention onto her. “Before I forget, tell me your quirk! Maybe you can incorporate this stuff into yours too. We should try them out together!” Separately or in conjunction, he’d take anything as long as he wasn’t completely alone. But the soldiers were too eager to get the party started. They began to walk toward the testing room, dragging him along. He could only throw a pleading glance over at the girl in hopes she had the time and energy to come too.
