”Alright, this will only take a moment...”
The doctor’s orders were heeded by Tetsuko, one hand holding up her sleeve while the other arm was outstretched in front of her, palm facing upwards. A thin strip of fabric was tied around her upper arm, and further down, a needle pierced into her flesh, finding the vein. The ironblooded girl winced, not out of pain, but deep discomfort. She’d never liked needles, as a swordswoman, she was naturally adverse to being cut or pierced in any way that wasn’t related to her own Quirk. It was just an instinct she had to suppress, and fortunately, not for long, as once the blood was drawn the needle was carefully removed, leaving only a slight remnant of the discomfort behind in her muscles.
”There we go… Now, let me j-”
The doctor had gone to clean up and bandage the point of injection, but before her hand could even reach toward the tiny hole, it had closed up completely. Tetsuko could only smile sheepishly, as the doctor gave a huff of amusement. ”Huh. Well, at least I know you weren’t kidding now.” Tetsuko Shindou’s little meeting with Doctor Mitsuki was then promptly wrapped up, she was given the usual treatment about being on guard for any lightheadedness or other changes, etc. etc., while the blood sample was stowed away for later use.
”I’ll let you know when Dr. Norigami has finished his assessment. Until then, just be careful not? Not with the, um, ‘healing quirk’ exposure, but the use of your own healing factor.” Tetsuko blushed slightly, having naturally told the doctor about the circumstances of this strange development, before nodding her head in understanding and gratitude. ”Right… Thank you, Mitsuki-san.” With a small bow, Tetsuko bade the good doctor farewell, returning into the medical grounds with time to spare.
A big part of the special military camp involved the exchange of information between the military and the quirked, with the former seeking to improve their integration of the latter. As such, it hadn’t become uncommon for some students to engage in ways that both benefited them and demonstrated the potentials for Quirk usage in the military. Though, in Tetsuko’s case, her most recent encounter with them had been a bit more… Personal. Sticking around the medical camp aimlessly, the Shindou girl thought back on her reasons for coming…
Her ‘exposure’ to Elise’s Quirk had resulted in some unforeseen side effects. Put simply, Tetsuko had been mutated by Eli’s Quirk, resulting in an enhanced healing factor that had developed unnaturally quickly. The cause and effect had already been confirmed earlier, but being unsatisfied with how little they knew, Tetsuko had sought some further evaluation from the professionals on hand. A certain mad doctor was quite intrigued by the idea of one person’s Quirk permanently changing another, so had quite eagerly accepted the prospect of evaluating Tetsuko’s blood to draw out further analysis. If there were any negative side effects to this newfound blessing of hers… Tetsuko needed to know them as soon as she could.
Breathing out a sigh, the ironblooded lass knew that all she could do was wait to see what the doctor had to say, hoping she was just being paranoid again. It didn’t matter in the end, as no matter what ‘negative’ effects it might have, this blessing was something she’d earned from Elise, something that would let Tetsuko become even stronger in order to protect her. Nothing could hurt that, as far as Tetsuko was concerned. With her resolve steeled for the time being, Tetsuko decided to wander around the medical camp while she had time to spare. It was one of the more interesting areas of the military zone, and one of the most frequented by the Quirked, along with prospective medics looking for more practical experience. And just as that thought crossed her mind, Tetsuko spotted one of those future healers walking by.
Haruto Shimizu, her mentor in cooking and a trusted ally who’d proven himself a good friend in a time of need. Not many others knew about the full circumstances of Elise’s absence from school as of yet, so Tetsuko did feel some natural sympathy for the boy. He didn’t seem to be with anyone else yet, so Tetsuko decided to call out to the snowy-haired boy - hopefully he wouldn’t mind the company.
”Hey, Haruto-kun!”

”Hey, Haruto-Kun!”
An unexpected voice startled Haruto. ”Shindou-kun? You’re here too?”
In hindsight, it was a stupid question. Where Elise von Eisenberg could be found, Shindou Tetsuko was unlikely to be far behind... And vice versa. As for Elise, Haruto felt he would not be surprised to hear she hadn’t left the military camp since she came here. Heck, he wouldn’t be surprised to learn she hadn’t left the armory since she came here. He couldn’t help but sigh at the thought of Tetsuko’s girlfriend, who... Well, he would probably get cut in half if he were to make a joke about Tetsuko being dumped for firearms, so he would keep that one to himself.
And here he had thought himself so very clever, inviting her here to help investigate his quirk in the hopes that some toxicology would distract her from, well, from you-know-what. He liked to think it had helped, but with no evidence to prove it, it was all very disheartening. If there was one upshot to the whole thing, it was that all of his questions had been answered- And more than a few that he never asked. A whole lot of food for thought- Including the fact that the impurities in his blood were something he could control. As long as he wasn’t telling them not to eat him. They didn’t quite seem to get that.
Frankly, he wasn’t sure how useful it would be at all. But, knowing more about his quirk worked could only be a good thing! Who knew, maybe in the future, it would turn out to be incredibly useful. Though, to be honest, he couldn’t see it at the moment. But he had a few ideas for how to find that out, and... Well, hopefully it would not go too horribly wrong.
”Are you also here to learn more about your quirk?” Speaking of which, other than learning that it needed Tetsuko to ingest a lot of iron, Haruto had never heard the specifics of her quirk. To do with iron- Perhaps it was a blood quirk, like Rin’s? Or maybe something to do with magnetism? But thinking would do no good, and if Tetsuko wanted to tell him, she probably would!

"Heh, yep, here too!" Was all Tetsuko could awkwardly reply to her friend's rather obvious question, as she jogged over to him with a contented half-smile.
Shimizu Haruto was, in all honesty, when of the few peers that Tetsuko well and truly trusted to a high enough degree that she'd call him an honest 'ally'. While she liked to believe her classmates and the school as a whole was full of trustworthy and noble Heroes, Tetsuko herself wasn't quite as easy to find genuine security in others, even if she did think highly of them. She respected every last one of her classmates, but she knew few of them well enough to be called certain comrades.
Haruto was an exception, obviously. Already, Tetsuko naturally had plenty of respect for the snowy-haired boy due to his role as her instructor in the culinary arts. That position alone made the Shindou girl naturally predisposed to showing him as much courtesy and appreciation as she could. But, more importantly, Haruto had managed to earn Tetsuo's steadfast trust and loyalty following certain events...
The various circumstances and complications aside, the simple fact of the matter was that Haruto was someone who knew Elise's deepest pain, and had done his part in helping the both of them come to terms with it. He was simply a good and earnest person, and having proven that to Tetsuko was enough to make the Shindou girl grateful for his company, even when it arose out of the blue.
He asked the most obvious question to Tetsuko, prompting the Japanese girl to rub the back of her head as her cheeks reddened slightly. "Uh, well, that is a part of why I'm here yeah, being that my Quirk is kind of a mutation, but, ummm." There was really no easy way to describe it, was there?
"Well, long story short, I'm also here because of Eli's Quirk, and how it might have affected me..." Her cheeks reddened further as she waved her hand dismissively. "I promise it's not as embarrassing as it sounds." Well, actually, it was pretty embarrassing once she got into the details, but 'I kissed my girlfriend too much and now I have another power' was not how Tetsuko wanted to explain things.
The red hue of her face fading, something about Haruto's question suddenly struck Tetsuko. "Ah, did you say also? Are you here to learn about your Quirk, Haruto-san? If you don't mind me asking." Tetsuko queried inquisitively. She didn't actually know what Haruto's quirk was, now that she thought about it... Perhaps he was in a similar case to her, where knowing the details of how it affected the body was important to its development? Well, if Haruto wanted her to know, she'd soon likely know.

“Eh, is that so?” Haruto asked, having misunderstood. Rather than jumping to embarrassing thoughts- Though, upon Tetsuko’s follow up, he couldn’t help but think about how Elise’s quirk worked, and his face turned mildly red. But rather than that, “”Ah, does her quirk have side effects? How serious is it?” As with any medication, the side effects were a big deal! Fortunately, Tetsuko looked healthy enough, so he was fairly certain it wasn’t a serious problem, but- ”I do hope it hasn’t been causing any problems for you.” Considering Tetsuko And Elise’s, ahem, relationship, Tetsuko didn’t exactly have a choice but to be exposed to Elise’s quirk. Hopefully these side effects hadn’t strained their relationship at all!
”Oh, no, it’s no trouble at all. It’s all a bit silly, really. See, it, uh, it turns out my quirk doesn’t quite work the way I thought it did- Oh, has Elise ever told you what my quirk is?” He wouldn’t be surprised either way- Elise wasn’t exactly the close-mouthed type. Especially when it came to a Tetsuko. Still, quirks were often considered a private thing, so, he wouldn’t be surprised if she had kept her mouth shut on the matter. ”Though to tell the truth, I think I got as many questions as answers from it... He couldn’t help but let out a sigh. His questions may have been answered, but it left his heart mildly unsettled. Should he look to Tetsuko for advice? But, he wouldn’t want to impose on her. But, speaking of a Tetsuko and advice...
”Err, is Elise, doing all right?” Haruto asked tentatively. ”I was with her earlier, and, uh, well...” He couldn’t help but beat around the bush. It wasn’t nice to talk about people behind their backs, but he was worried. ”It’s this newfound obsession with guns... I... Itks not that I think there’s something wrong with it, but... Well...” It was hard to articulate his actual concerns. It was like, ”I just feel like it isn’t healthy? Like, she said that her reason for it was that she feels like she can’t do anything... I feel like an interest born of such negative emotions, how can it ever be a good thing? Not... Not that I don’t understand how she feels, but...”
Ah, what a mess of an explanation. Fortunately, he thought he had gotten the main points across! ”You’re the one who’s closest to her. Am I just overthinking this?”

Fortunately for Tetsuko, Haruto wasn’t the type to tease at the given chance, perhaps attributed more to his innocence rather than any deeper consideration, and instead expressed concern towards the side effects. ”Ah, no, there’s no, er, negative side effects… All that’s changed is that I, well… I heal a lot quicker now.” Tetsuko would admit casually, trying to downplay just how extraordinary her newfound regenerative abilities were. She didn’t want to worry Haruto in case there were any negative effects to such a thing, and besides, it was a neat little secret ability to have. ”It… It’s fine, really, Elise and I already sorted made sure it won’t be a problem.” The Shindou girl said dismissively. It truthfully hadn’t put much, if any strain on their relationship, though, Elise was unaware of the further testing Tetsuko was undertaking to ensure that her heightened regeneration didn’t come with any unpleasant side effects…
On the topic of abilities, Haruto didn’t seem to have much trouble revealing anything about his Quirk, and was even surprised to hear that Tetsuko didn’t know what it was. ”Oh, no, it hasn’t ever been brought up, and I, uh, haven’t actually asked her.” Tetsuko admitted with a sheepish chuckle. When she’d first heard about how Haruto’s Quirk had affected his decision to become a chef, the swordswoman had presumed his non-specificity on the matter meant he wasn’t interested in sharing, but this was apparently not the case. It hadn’t ever been revealed by Elise either, as although she was the talkative type, Elise didn’t make a habit of blabbing about things that might be private or personal to some, such as Quirks.
Regardless, it seemed like Haruto was having his own struggles with his abilities, having just discovered his Quirk functioned differently than he thought, seeming a bit unsettled by it. ”Well, I guess being weirded out by how our bodies work is kind of a natural thing for ‘Quirkers’, isn’t it?” Were the only comforting words Tetsuko could think to provide, unless Haruto had any more to say on the matter. Truthfully, she couldn’t quite be sure how he was feeling, as Tetsuko herself had enjoyed a fairly positive outlook on her own Quirk most of her life, thanks to the pride and faith placed in her by her family.
Suddenly, Haruto decided to shift the topic of conversation towards their mutual connection, Elise. Raising a confused eyebrow at first, Tetsuko would understood the snowy-haired boy’s meaning much more when he brought up her interest in firearms. He mentioned some things that Tetsuko herself had considered, prompting her to wear a conflicted look as she addressed his concerns.
”I… Was kinda concerned too, at first.” Tetsuko admitted. ”I mean, I’m a bit biased, I’m not really a big fan of guns, which is kinda hypocritical when I’m so interested in swords but… That’s not important, anyway, I… I don’t think it matters why she started it.” Pausing for a moment, Tetsuko thought how to put her thoughts and feelings into proper words before speaking up again. ”She really seems to enjoy it, even when she’s just shooting targets, so I don’t really think it is unhealthy. Er, at least, no more unhealthy than my own interests, eheh… But like I said, I don’t think it matters what started her toward it… Like, if someone starts working out because they’re upset with their own body, and then finds they enjoy it, improving themselves and having fun… Is that such a bad thing?” Yeah, not really a great comparison at all, but Tetsuko hoped she was getting the bulk of her point across.
”I guess, to shorten it, I don’t think it matters why she started, but why she stuck with it. It’s a genuine hobby, it makes her eyes light up and she has fun, so that’s enough for me.” Tetsuko admitted with a soft grin, clearly unfazed by her lady’s interest in firearms. It was only natural for such a figure to be able to defend themselves, with such an unreliable knight at her side. ”Besides, I think she looks really cute when she’s geeking out over the guns…”

"Oh, that sounds convenient. When you said side effects, I feared the worst- But in the end, Elise's quirk really is miraculous, huh?" Being able to cure the QED drug- He knew firsthand how powerful that stuff was, having both tested himself with it, and cured one of his fellow students. Speaking of whom, he couldn't help but wonder how she had been doing since. He hadn't seen her, before or after. Maybe he should take some time to seek her out, as a follow up. But that was besides the point. After all, unlike his own quirk, Elise's was much more widespread in what it could cure- And now, apparently, she could leave it's effects in another's body long-term? Of course there was the awkward manner in which her quirk worked best- But, there were ways around that! A vial of her blood... While it lost strength outside of her body, it would certainly be enough to save a life!
As for himself, his quirk would likely only be lifesaving if he somehow stumbled across someone dying of poisoning. But, because of that, wouldn't he just have to redouble his efforts in other areas? He couldn't let himself fall behind! If his quirk couldn't cure wounds, well, wouldn't he just have to rely on old-fashioned medical techniques? Which was why he was studying to become a doctor!
"Ah, well, to keep it simple- My body absorbs toxins and bacteria and stuff from the outside environment, and purifies them. We'd thought that it was my body purifying things and turning them into black goo, but, it turned out that the black goo was what was doing the purifying, and that the reason more of it appeared after doing so was actually just my body's immune response. So, yeah. I'm still working on it, but... I think, I might be able to do stuff with my newfound knowledge, maybe?" Of course, it was all a lot more complicated than that, but... It really wasn't casual conversation to go into detail about his quirk. Just explaining the basics was already more than enough.
In any case, it could be that the doctor who first diagnosed my quirk was wrong, or that my parents had oversimplified the explanation for me when I was too young to understand a word of it. Probably a combination of both, but... As I said, it's all a bit silly." He didn't even bother bringing up that apparently he could control the impurities now. Or at least, that they were responding to his brainwaves. He wanted to keep that one to himself, at least until he understood it better. After all, it would be really awkward to be talking big about it, only for it to turn out that he couldn't manipulate them of his own will!
He listened to Tetsuko's thoughts on Elise's guns, and couldn't help but nod along. "I suppose you're right. It's really not my place to say what's healthy for her or not... Perhaps I'm just being too nosy into other people's affairs... Although, I am glad to see that she's doing better. I would never expect for her to fully recover, but... It's good that she can smile again, and that's what matters isn't it?"
And with that, he decided to forever drop the topic. Whether or not it was healthy, was not his place to say, and... He would really be an asshole if he tried to tell his friends what to do, right? Even so, "Just, when you're fighting, do keep her safe. Even with her uncanny skill with a gun... She still doesn't have the advantage of a quirk the way everyone else does. But if you're there with her, I don't think there'll be anything to worry about!"
There was just something about Tetsuko, a sense she gave of reliability. Even when he had seen her passing out from overwork... Well, even having seen that, Haruto couldn't imagine her being weak. She just gave this sense of invulnerability, of being this sturdy pillar which would hold against any storm. And he was pretty sure Elise felt that way too.

Tetsuko couldn’t help but smile at Haruto’s ‘miraculous’ description of Elise’s quirk, finding it suitably apt. Someone like her deserved the power of a miracle on her side, as far as the Shindou girl saw it. ”Y-Yeah, it’s something special, alright… We don’t anything bad could come from it… No, I’m sure there’s nothing a Quirk like that could do, other than give me another blessing.” Stumbling ever her words a bit, Tetsuko became more conscious not to voice her concerns around Haruto, for fear of making him worry when he clearly seemed to accept the benevolent nature of Elise’s Quirk. Ultimately, this blessing was something to still be cautious of to the insecure swordswoman, considering the rarity it was in all actuality. Something brought about by Tetsuko’s… Er… Particularly high exposure to the Quirk, whether intentionally or not.
From Elise’s Quirk, they’d soon find themselves discussing Haruto’s instead, something that had never been shared with the Shindou girl. It had become a significant curiosity of hers in recent months, the Quirks of others. As the one with the duty to bring the Shindou family and their righteous warrior lineage into the age of Quirks, Tetsuko had a natural vested interest in these strange and prominent powers that had arisen in the last century. They would become the defining weapons of war someday, after all.
Or, perhaps, tools for peace and progress, such as in the case of Haruto’s Quirk. An attentive listener, Tetsuko would sit by as he explained the processes and details of his supportive Quirk, which apparently allowed him to purify and filter substances around himself, at least from Tetsuko’s understanding. She wasn’t the most scientifically minded person, so much of the details weren’t considered by her. Most important, in her eyes, were the statements that he thought he could do more with his new knowledge. ”I see, that’s good to hear. I’m sure you’ll be able to do more now that you’ve learned a bit more about it, Quirks are part of our bodies, makes sense we’d be able to use them better when we understand them.” Tetsuko said with a self-assuredness. It was how she’d always felt on the matter; that Quirks were simply another part of the human body, and training them and understanding them wasn’t all too different to how you heightened your own physical condition. Perhaps that was just her way of coming to terms with these strange and unnatural powers, however.
When Haruto talked about how his Quirk might have been mis-diagnosed when he was younger, Tetsuko recalled him saying that it had caused problems or something similar during his youth, so she wouldn’t have been surprised if his parents had oversimplified things to try and make it all a bit easier to swallow for a young superpowered lad. ”Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was misdiagnosed, Quirk science seems to confuse everyone…” If it was easier to explain, then people wouldn’t view them as freaks. Was something Tetsuko thought, but kept internalised. It was a horrible sentiment to voice, regardless of the truth she found in it.
Things shifted their focus back to their Germanic girl, her obsession with firearms becoming the topic of conversation. It was quite healthy and pleasant for Tetsuko to talk about this with someone, really. Being able to voice her own concerns and how she’d come to terms with them to someone else was something that made her feel a bit more levity despite the complicated and pressing circumstances. As much as she truly cared for Elise, having someone on the outside to speak with, who she understood and who understood her, was a connection that the often insecure yet unvocal swordswoman required greatly.
Ultimately, she entirely understood Haruto’s fears, though seemed to be able to persuade him that they weren’t founded. Smiling with reassurance, Tetsuko did feel a little bad when Haruto seemed to indicate he felt nosy, when that was certainly not the case. However, she smiled quietly when he said he was glad to see she was doing better, smiling again. ”Yeah… Seeing her smile again… It’s… Anyway, don’t feel bad about asking or being concerned. I’m just happy to know there are other people worried about her.” Were Tetsuko’s last words on the topic, a look of quiet resolve coming over her. Elise was something that prompted such certainty and self-assuredness in the otherwise insecure girl.
Chuckling at Haruto’s assurance that she could keep Eli safe, Tetsuko began to grow a little warmer at the kind, and doubtlessly flattering words. ”Thank you, Haruto-san. I don’t think I need to tell you I’ll do my best… But having seen her with a gun… I think she can handle herself a lot of the time too.” Tetsuko was certainly feeling a lot more at ease now, compared to before where she’d been dealing with some potentially harmful ramifications.
”That said, I’ll fight alongside her always. She’s even moved to my Class now.” Tetsuko stated casually, figuring Haruto was already aware of the matter. Smiling softly and with a quiet look in her eyes, Tetsuko couldn’t help but once again realise how much Elise had changed. ”To think she used to just want to be a good doctor… Though, I’m guessing that’s the path you’re pursuing, Haruto-san?” A casual question, though something Tetsuko could definitely see him doing, particularly now that she knew about his Quirk.

Well, Tetsuko was probably biased when saying that, but... Well, even if she was, it sounded like the doctors hadn't found anything off either. Haruto just hoped it would stay that way, for everyone's sake. If he noticed the awkwardness in Tetsuko's voice, he certainly didn't say anything about it. But seriously, compared to what he'd learned about his own quirk... The new information about Elise's felt so much more practical! After all, he didn't even know yet if the response his impurities were showing would be controllable, or not, yet.
"That's the hope, yep. The worst, the biggest issue I've always had when using my quirk, is that my capacity, I just, I can't absorb as many toxins as I need to. If I could, somehow, leverage my newfound knowledge into just being able to purify more, purify stronger things, it would be immensely helpful, I think." And if he could control the impurities, who knew. Maybe he could leverage that into something just as helpful, but in a different direction?
"Tell me about it. But, is that really a surprise? Until recently, quirks were so villified- Nobody could study them properly. But now- Well, before the camp shuts down, there's going to be a presentation about it. I can't wait- It's all about how quirks effect the body, both of the user and of other people. I want to be a doctor, so, how could I miss this? I wonder if Elise knows about it- It sounds like it could be right up her alley." Well, maybe not. She seemed very much so more engaged with the marksmanship than with medicine lately- And that was fine. It just meant Haruto might not be going to the presentation with anyone he knew, was all.
Yeah, Haruto knew firsthand how good Elise was with a gun- Enough to impress even military personnel, men with decades of experience. He was probably worrying too much- If Tetsu thought it was fine, then it probably was. It felt a little bit like a gun, well- Compared to a quirk, it was only so useful. But, he was sure Elise had considered that already considered that. Perhaps he should trust her, the way that Tetsuko did.
"Oh, she did?" The news of Elise's transfer was news to Haruto. He knew that she was taking time off from the General Studies class, but to think that she had entirely changed to the hero course... Somehow, it made the already small class feel just that little bit lonelier. Still, Well, best of luck to the both of you! I look forward to the day you both get your licenses and become pro heroes!" Haruto said with his usual beaming smile. "But hey, don't be so distracted that you don't pay attention to class, eh?" He couldn't help but tease a little.
Of course, to be fair... he was guilty of the same thing. So far he'd managed to control his urges, but... How was it fair for Chise to be so darned cute! Was it wrong of him to want to just stare at her all day long? Okay, so it probably was, which was why he had forced himself not to... But it was hard, so very hard!
Ah, but that tangent aside, the conversation was still ongoing. "Yeah. It'll be a long path, but... Since I was young, it's been my dream to become a doctor, to use my quirk to save people. I'm not the hero type, I couldn't do anything, you know, like you do... But, still, I want to help? So while you get your hero license, I'll be going into pre-med... Assuming any of them accept me. I know medical programs can be, well, competitive. But, I won't let that stop me!" Haruto was fortunately assured regarding his future path. He had his goals, and all that was left was fulfilling them. "I'd say to come to me if you get injured, but... Well, it seems I won't need to worry about that! So instead, just send me the people you save, and I'll patch them up as good as new!"

Quirk talk had always been so fascinating for Tetsuko, learning about these strange and powerful abilities and how they evolved and grew with their wielders. As the one burdened with advancing the Shindou family into the next age, the age of Quirks, she also felt a duty learn all she could about the varied users of these blessings and curses. A duty somewhat compromised by her clear biases, an undeniable unwillingness to believe that Elise's Quirk could actually cause such harm to her... Yet, fortunately, that was not the topic of conversation at present, and now she was learning of a different heavenly Quirk, one more specific in its functions but also quite fascinating.
The biggest issue with his Quirk usage that Haruto specified was that he didn't quite have the ability to absorb the quantity of toxins he needed to, lamenting that he needed someway to leverage his knowledge into simply enhancing the effectiveness of his Quirk. "Well if this 'black goo' is produced by your body, it might just be a process of training... I don't know much, but Quirks are kind of like muscles from what I know. They need to be strained to grow stronger." That was all the advice Tetsuko could really provide the young lad, given her own approach to things was rather simple herself. Her own abilities were often the focus, her Quirk merely a way of producing the tools necessary to utilize them.
The talk of a presentation about the effects of Quirks on users and others piqued Tetsuko's interest, it was certainly a worthwhile topic for her, given her own exposure to Elise's Quirk. Though she was partially content to embrace her belief that it was an honest blessing, the Shindou girl also had her insecurities, a simple acknowledgement that things like that rarely came without some cost. So, indeed, it would be worthwhile if she could spare the time. "Eli hasn't mentioned it... I'll have to ask her, it does sound interesting." Even if she didn't quite get all the science that came with it, Tetsuko was definitely keen on learning all she could about the healing juice and its effects on her iron body.
The swordswoman was quite surprised to hear that Haruto was entirely unaware of Elise's transfer, until she remembered that Elise hadn't attended classes for some time following the deaths of her parents. At least, in spite of her absence, her personal relationships hadn't suffered at all, thanks to the dedication and loyalty of people like Haruto. Though initially worried he might be a bit upset to hear she'd moved classes, those fears were put to rest by the snowy haired boy's wishes of good luck, painting a soft smile on the Shindou girl's face. "Thank you, we'll do our best." She'd say with a slight bow of thanks to the kind boy. It was no wonder he'd become Elise's friend, they both shared that unerring kindness.
His comment about teasing had Tetsuko blushing a little, as she glanced away in embarassment. "She's the one who needs to not get distracted..." That was kind of a lie. Although it was true that Elise often didn't quite understand 'time and place' and was prone to teasing Tetsuko regardless of circumstance, it wasn't like the Shindou girl could say she was completely innocent of having her attention drawn away either. After all, with Elise there, she had something far more captivating to look at than a whiteboard, in addition to the fact that Tetsuko found herself always drawn to keeping an out for her in one way or another...
Indeed, even now, it was difficult for the Shindou girl to understand just how strong Elise had become, so leaving her on her own was a bit troublesome. She'd once just wanted to be a simple doctor, much like Haruto. Speaking of which, he confirmed her suspicions, detailing his planned pathway to becoming a doctor. He was quite ambitious and forward-thinking, something the swordswoman could certainly respect. Even if Haruto didn't exactly look like much of a fighter, he still had that same spirit, declaring that he'd take any people Tetsuko saved, and heal them up good as new. Tetsuko grinned proudly, standing a little taller in the presence of a future ally.
"I'll keep it mind, Doctor. Though if Eli is ever unavailable, you're definitely my second choice for a healer." Tetsuko said with a friendly smile. "Though, I don't agree with you saying you're not the Hero type... Doctors are Heroes too, y'know? ... Elise's parents were Heroes." Tetsuko wore a bittersweet smile as she spoke, a future that seemed so far, yet shined so bright. "As for me, I'll be sure to send the good and bad guys your way... Cause the latter might need some patching up too, once I'm a Hero." Justice and retribution, that was what a Hero delivered, that was what Tetsuko believed.
"Jeeze... That all seems so far away though, doesn't it?" Tetsuko couldn't help but muse, smiling softly as a certainty crossed her mind. No matter what future came, to know that she'd face it alongside Elise, and alongside allies like Haruto... It was an unimaginable blessing.

"Ah, yeah, it's something like that... I'm hopeful that with what I've learned here, I can make a difference. Like, if it's my legs that are weak, lifting weights wouldn't help, right? Plus, well... My mutation's in my immune system, but... Well, it's not entirely clear if it can be trained. Like, normal immune systems, your immune system tends to get stronger as you produce antibodies for more diseases, right? But, my mutation means I have none of that, so... Rather than my quirk, my tolerance is more based on what my body can handle... And, well..." Haruto gestured towards his frame, which was best described as shrimpy. He had long since mentioned to Tetsuko that his body was frail due to his quirk rabaging his body... It was a vicious cycle.
As for the presentation, apparently Elise hadn't mentioned it to Tetsuko. Well, she would either be there or she wouldn't, but- "I know, right? This is cutting edge research, I can't believe they're willing to present it to high schoolers like this! I don't know when an opportunity like this will come up again, so it's quite exciting!" Haruto was clearly excited for this event, and could barely keep himself from gushing. Clearly, no matter what happened, he would find his way there!
Haruto couldn't help but laugh at Tetsuko's reaction to his teasing. But there was a time and place for everything, and it wasn't nice to tease, so he didn't follow up on it. As for the last subject, that of the things he could do... Well, any mention of Elise's parents was a sobering thing. "You're right, there's more than one kind of hero. Still, you know what I meant. I couldn't fight villains, the way you and Elise are training to. So I'll be a hero on the back lines instead, patching up those at the front!"
As for having to patch up the villains too- "Of course! Just make sure not to kill them, and I won't let them die! Your hero license will be in good hands!" Haruto crossed his hand over his chest as he said this. And, regarding how far away it was... "Well, it's far away for me. For you, though... Well, we're already halfway through the first year, right> So, just two and a half years to go before you get your license... It's coming terrifyingly fast!" Where had the time gone? Things were moving so quickly, it felt like they'd barely learned a portion of what they needed.

Haruto seemed to have a solid grasp on how to enhance his Quirk with his newfound knowledge, though seemed uncertain about how to train his immune system. He did have a point, it didn't exactly sound like something that could exactly be enhanced by stress and effort like muscles could. Then again, his own Quirk kind of made comparing it to a regular immune system a tricky point altogether, with Haruto ultimately believing it could simply be a matter of making sure his body could handle more. "I see what you mean... It might just be best to simply work on controlling it, enhancing it through simple technique... Though..." Haruto's body was indeed frail, thanks to his Quirk not exactly being kind on his body as he'd said before, but it did make Tetsuko wonder about something. "I guess the more you use your Quirk, there's also the chance your body could get tougher and more used to it, right? So, in a way, you could possibly train it like you would simple endurance. I'm not a scientist, though, but I've got a good workout plan if you ever need it." Tetsuko said with a grin, being equally fascinated in the Quirk talk as she was in helping Haruto to strengthen that shrimpy body of his. The Shindou girl did know a thing or two about maintaining a certain physique.
They both seemed to have a shared interest in Quirks, though Haruto's actual scientific knowledge, and outward enthusiasm, both outclassed Tetsuko's. She wasn't sure she'd ever seen him so excited. "I don't know if someone like me could appreciate it all, but it's definitely something incredible. This whole place is incredible for how useful its been to UA students..." Tetsuko mused, thinking on all the others who'd found some way to make the most of their time within the special military camp. She wondered what kind of planning had even gone into something like this, letting high schoolers look so deeply into this developing world of Quirk science.
The teasing Tetsuko received prompted a lighter moment, one she didn't actually mind, but Haruto didn't follow up, leaving that there. At least someone Tetsuko know wasn't so keen on teasing her all the time! Haruto then agreed with the swordswoman on what she had to say about what different kinds of Heroes there were, though she did agree with Haruto that he didn't seem like the type to fight them like she and Elise very well might. He was, if she was to be brutally honest, not the most sturdily built guy she'd seen... "Yeah, maybe leave the fighting to us..."
And fight they likely would, though hopefully not too much, as Haruto told them not to kill the poor bastards. "Right right, I'll dull my blade first." Tetsuko joked, though had admittedly been wondering how to actually use a sword non-lethally in combat. Even if some villains didn't quite deserve it, taking their lives was frowned upon greatly by the champions of justice that Heroes were. That was, of course, in the future, something Haruto considered much closer than Tetsuko did. His words were almost frightening to the Shindou girl, who could only respond in a manner fitting of her. "I... I guess so, but I'll do what I can to make sure it doesn't come too quick. There's still a lot I need to learn before I can even think about being a proper Hero. Besides, things are already moving a bit quick for me, ehehe..." Between... Well, just about everything, the world seemed to spinning faster than Tetsuko could keep up with it sometimes, something that troubled the swordswoman. It was, as Haruto had said, terrifying.
