Daimon Darren had found himself a very nice looking bancho cap. Bancho was a word that could refer either to an old-ass governmental position in ancestral Japan or, as it is used here, as a name for the leader of a group of delinquents.
It’s likely that you know what a bancho hat looks like without knowing the name, as it became a popular symbol of Japanese culture, making an appearance on a lot of delinquent characters whose visual identity wasn’t already defined with a pompadour. It was a black military-looking cap often seen with a long coat of the same color. Chains were a common occurrence as well. If you are thinking of a certain 195cm tall anime character’s hair-blending hat, you would be absolutely right. That is what a bancho hat looks like.
Now that we got the appearance of Darren’s hat and why it was significant, let’s move on to the reasons of his wearing it. First, it might be interesting to describe the location in which Darren was standing with his very nice looking bancho hat on his head. He was in the newly-built martial arts wing of the recently opened extended indoor training facility, and the rest of outfit consisted of a black tracksuit with white stripes and a few strategically placed red highlights opened on a white shirt. He was barefoot, but it wasn’t a problem since the entire room was made of tatami floor anyway.
The wing in question was really just a large room, reminding of a warehouse but lower of ceiling. The reason the ceiling was low was that a bunch of sandbags were hanging from rails affixed to the ceiling so they could easily be moved. There were bags of all shapes and sizes and weights, and they were all very resistant. Over the last few days, Darren had been making sure of that.
One corner of the room was simply a vast free-use tatami area. The corner next to it had boxing rings and octogonal cages. Lined on the walls were wooden, rubber, bamboo, foam and plastic weapon racks, wooden mannequins, leather speed bags, double bags and everything a student looking for a place to train his melee skills at might require.
The crown jewel was the automated, repeating, 100-rounds magazine tennis ball cannon. It worked with a triple barrel system like a Gatling gun. It could shoot tennis balls at random intervals, in random directions, be programmed to follow a pattern, and with a change of barrels and magazine could accommodate a variety of projectiles.
Darren had made sure to advertise the presence of this fine machine. He had ditched paper flyers this time and went digital, spamming UA chats with the date and time of the first meeting and sign-ups for the martial arts club.
And there you have the reason Darren was standing in such a room for: he had been forcibly assigned the role of president of the U.A. Martial Arts Club by the principal in an effort to responsibilize him. It wasn’t going so great: at first, Darren thought he didn’t want anything to do with paperwork, but then he realized that having some sort of authority over an entire club whose room was filled with what was essentially a wet dream of his might not be so bad. Maybe he could even find himself a loyal goon to ‘delegate’ paperwork to.
And as such, the hopefully-former delinquent was waiting at the advertised date and time to welcome the new members of the newly-formed UA martial arts club in their brand-new club room. They would be welcomed with a warm, enthusiastic greeting of “Welcome to the martial arts club! My name is Darren, are you ready to kick some ass?” |

Akane Satsuki "I suppose we all have to face
our demons at some point,
or in this case, 'Daimons'?" Crimson Hare  A Martial Arts Club… Moving down the hallways in her ever pristine UA issue tracksuit which was by now becoming a bit of a staple of the young woman’s wardrobe, the brow of Akane Satsuki furrowed a little as she thought about the destination she was moving toward. Not usually the type to join afterschool clubs due to her limited social ability and because her mother tended to whisk her away from school almost in an effort to deny her the chance to mingle with people, the teen felt a little apprehensive about the challenges that might wait for her, but wasn’t deterred.
While I prefer the idea of rescue, it would be no good if I couldn’t hold off criminals if push came to shove? Coming to the school with a little bit of training and experience in the combat arts thanks to a couple of decent sensei’s she had managed to convince her matriarch to let her see, while she had found the rescue topic to appeal to her sensibilities much better than going out and looking for heads to bust, that didn’t mean that Akane was naïve enough to think she wouldn’t need to be able to fight.
Not everyone has the gifts needed to protect themselves, so I suppose since I have a little skill, I should hone it and use it? Possessing a sense of justice inside her and a desire to protect, while she wasn’t the type to go out looking for a fight instances like that mishap with Genzu had shown the girl she could be fierce if she thought someone was in danger and felt a certain assurance in that. With her quirk and steadily developing fighting capability, the redhead felt she had a responsibility to defend the less innocent, and really it had been that defending desire that had guided her toward the place she was now. After all, this whole hero thing had really all started when the young bunny had thrown herself into danger to protect someone in trouble.
I wonder who started it? Jasmine? The flyer that had drain the attention of the fair femme something she had been a little bit too shy to fully survey around a crowd of people, whether or not it had said who was hosting such a class Miss Satsuki didn’t know as she grabbed the details of the date and time for the first session, but she could think of one fighter who it would suit. Remembering how she had quite accidentally ended up sparring with a blonde amazon from Class A and in spite of the bruises she had had received quite enjoyed it, though she wasn’t ordinarily the competitive sort the scarlet haired student felt an urge to impress that young woman when she met her again.
I hope so… I’ve been getting a little better lately and I wanna see if I’ve caught up to her in skill lately? Miss Noir like a torch that had both lit a fire in the heart of this usually timid teen and also given her a goal to aim for, she had been pushing herself hard ever since that battle and had refined her skills rather a great deal and now in her own way sought to gain a little approval from the girl. By no means so arrogant to think that she might have managed to catch up more than a step or two to that natural born warrior, even if Akane felt just a little less overwhelmed by the superior abilities of that golden haired gal then it would feel like a victory, especially if her rival noticed her progress as well.
That Darren also seems to be interested in fighting but… Well, he seems too unruly to form a club! He’d probably be more at home in a bar room brawl or something? Nearing the door to the warehouse-like structure in which this activity was meant to take place, to the mind of Miss Satsuki there was only one person in school that would rattle her to see here, and he was that same soul who seemed to consistently trouble her to think about. The loud and brash lad with spiky hair and an attitude that seemed to suit a delinquent more than a hero the person that this humble girl dreaded even more than their strictest teacher, his volatile presence unsettled the bunny girl and made her clam up, so naturally his would be the first face she saw as she stepped inside the ‘dojo’.
IT’S DARREN! Jolting as she entered the door and heard that familiar voice that stirred up trouble in her class greeting her, the green eyes of the girl widened and she felt a shiver pass through her as she stood face to face with the boisterous boy who so often seemed unruly and a force for disruption in the school.
“O-O-Oh, h-h-h-hello…” Blinking for several seconds as if she was hoping that she had made a mistake and this was simply Naoru or someone with a new hairstyle, for a very uncomfortable series of seconds Akane stared at this terrifying presence before finally raising her voice but only managing a stammering squeak in response to that spirited greeting she was given. Instantly regretting her decision and wanting to bolt back out of the door straight away, while the young woman might gave pursued such a path if available to her, unfortunately right now she found herself temporarily frozen in place by fear… |

Yes, she'd gotten the flashy invitation on the school chat. Guy didn't even need to be that forceful, and she'd come in regardless. What passed for a fight club here in Yuuei? Heroes had to be tough for that kind of job... But more than that, society viewed them as paragons for all things right. Nauseatingly idealistic it may be, it also meant they had limits to how brutal they could get, or did they? She'd find out soon enough... Should she deem it too mild, Kanna would much rather keep up the civilian MMA classes she'd relied on up until now, but she'd defer judgement. Villains would show no such kindness after all, and that notion meant any kind of training for them to stand before those villains required a measure of ruthlessness: "They promised that much, but can they even deliver? Guess I'll wait and see...", mused Kanna, rolling both wrists between her fingers, one at a time. She couldn't help reach her arms up, bending her elbows and stretching in one way, and then another. Anybody could guess where she was heading with a single glance, after all... With a blue towel over her shoulder, bottle of water on her hand, and a determined look in her eyes, she looked completely ready for the training session to come. Clad in black sportswear, the blonde had actually gone as far as removing the nose piercing she always wore, acknowledging how she respected the following exercise as a proper fight training. Only the future would tell her whether this expectation actually held up in the face of reality, but that future could arrive sooner than she expected. When she crossed the treshold into the warehouse area repurposed into the martial arts club, Kanna immediately smirked... That sight of the club president, Damion Darren. She'd taken the liberty of digging up some information about him, using what information she could gather from the group chats... In the end, she found him more relatable than all the drama lovers in this god damned school, where everyone has their hidden agenda and never even thinks of explaining their real intentions... Even for one fucking second. It made her way too pissed off... And when she got pissed, she needed somewhere to vent that frustration. "So this is the fight club you were shouting out about huh...?", Kanna assessed, turning left, then right, scratching her shaggy blonde hair and looking around her. A fittingly japanese tatami mat, contrasting with the scarcely traditional tennis ball shooter. You'd have to be an idiot not to understand why they'd bring such a contraption in here, hinting at the grueling nature of the training. So far, she had to say, she actually liked what she saw. A couple meters to her right stood a rather pretty redhead, with a posture far too meek for the kind of training she'd inevitably endure. Whether she had something else sapping her confidence was beyond Kanna, who for once knew very little about the person in question. That bashful nature could very well be a front though, a guise concealing greater strength than she could imagine. Kanna preferred the devil she knew to the devil she knew not, so she'd remain careful around her at first: "Well, you came this far... Might as well wait and see what he's got in store for us.", a blunt statement to the seemingly frightened redhead, without smiling or frowning in any way, but easily sensing the girl's hesitation. Out of touch with complex feelings she may be, Kanna still held a fairly good insight towards the more primal of emotions. Recognizing the fear from that trembling stance was all too easily, especially as she came close enough to greet the two with a defiant grin, "Cheers... Why else would we have come here?" Still, that resolute pose of Darren's... It all but made her wanna wrest that title from him, in due time. Not that she had any fetish for authority, or even any desire to keep the title. But like any delinquent worth his salt, his very posture posed a challenge to the world around him, and Kanna had spent most of her waking moments standing up to such challenges. She rested a hand on her hip, resting most of her weight on that side in a confident stance, curious as what exercises their club president had in store... Words: 720 Outfit: |

The first two people to show up were a blonde girl he had never seen before and Akane.
Akane was a girl in his class who for some reason always lost her composure in front of Darren. In front of everyone else, however, she had one hell of a pair of legs which were a beauty to see at work, kicking thing with a violence that was matching Darren’s.
For all of her meek ways, Akane Satsuki was probably the only person in 1-C who could rival Darren, if only she could keep her wits about her in front of him. She couldn’t, unfortunately, and Darren thought it was a damn shame. She’d be a great bout.
He half-expected her to show up and was happy to see her. Maybe she’d finally fight him seriously sometime. He both looked forward to it and disliked the idea of taking a liver blow from one of them mean-ass bunny-style side-kicks.
The other girl he had no idea who she was but he had a good feeling about. She showed up in black gym clothes that left just enough to the imagination, carrying a bottle and a towel. She stretched as if to spur Darren’s already gone imagination to run even wilder.
She was blunt in her speech, which reminded him of Hayley, which was another point scored with him. Not only that, but she looked at him in the way ambitious delinquents looked at each other. He shot her a glance and a smirk in answer, and it told her all she needed to be told.
“Welcome, welcome, the two of you,” he said excitedly. “Welcome to the martial arts club! As you can see, we have a ton of shit,” he said, walking along the row of sandbags, punching each and every single one of them. “Give it a try, it’s fun,” he added. When he got to the rings, he jumped on one pole of the boxing ring with a little help from his quirk. The telltale blue sparks only fired for an instant, and he jumped like he was weighing a tenth of his weight.
He pivoted on himself to face his -- hopefully -- new clubmates from his promontory. “We have rings, cages,” he said, jumping from the pole to the edge of the octagon, “tatamis, practice weapons of all shapes, sizes, and colors,” as he took a few steps on the edge of the cage with remarkable balance before jumping off to the tatami area, showing off the weapons rack with a wave.
He also waved at the rest of the stuff, already bored of the tour he was giving himself. “And plenty of shit that I’m sure you already know. Alright, who’s up for a spar?” he said, slamming a fist into a palm. At some point, he had put on 4 oz gloves. The almost devilish rictus on his face, the bancho hat, and the slav-looking tracksuit gave all but the image of a competent club president, but Darren sure was the picture of eagerness at the moment. |

The two eyes of pupils with differing colors peered into the numerous classrooms as Ene walked past every one of them, her mind off daydreaming about who knows what. She was merely walking to a specified clubroom, and her day had been uneventful thus far. There was nothing to distract her but herself. She would have continued to imagine disfigured animal people goofing off in the classrooms had she not been snapped back to reality by the short-haired girl walking next to her.
The girl in question was Chene, older sister of Malene, and one of Ene's constituents. She was usually Ene's voice of reason, and the Chene walking next to Ene was merely a metaphorical representation of the mental processes going on in Ene's mind. She had just finished voicing out her concerns which had fallen on deaf ears, and was frustrated that she was not being paid any attention to. As usual, Ene's lack of concern only served to heighten Chene's.
Once Chene had successfully gotten Ene's attention back, she reiterated, "I'm not sure I trust Daimon-san to be organized enough to run a club. I don't doubt his physical abilities in the slightest, but I've heard that-"
"Heard what? You haven't even met the guy yet! Since when did you make assumptions off of someone based off rumors? HMMM?" Ene interrupted, towering over her constituent menacingly. The height gap would've been quite impressive if anyone could actually see them.
"O-okay, but what if you get hurt-"
"If I was scared of getting hurt, I wouldn't have chosen to become a hero," Ene stated, her gaze steady. She wrapped a long arm around to Chene's shoulder, shaking her slightly and giving her a reassuring smile, "There's nothing to be afraid of. We've been through worse, remember?"
Quelling Chene's doubts helped the taller girl quell her own, and her confidence skyrocketed as a result. This confidence could be felt by everyone she brought into her presence as she semi-forcefully opened up the clubroom door. One of her hands was holding up four fingers, which turned into two, which then turned into an okay sign meaning zero, as Ene slowly said out loud, "Shi-tsu-rei!"
It was a gag that she had totally come up with on her own, and not from some manga book or tv show. The Shi being four, the Tsu being the way Japanese pronounce two, and the Rei being zero. When the three syllables are said together, it becomes the Japanese word for "excuse me." Don't steal this joke just because you like it!

Darren being the president of a club? No way! Eli thought as he walked to the newly opened martial arts club. He read Darrens advertisement on the U.A. group chat and decided he would see how Darren ran things, I mean sure he was strong but that didn't make him less of a delinquent and it surely wouldn't make him organized. Well at least it would improve Eli's physical prowess if nothing else. He had been wanting to learn some fighting skills, so maybe this was some kinda date thing.
To prepare for the fighting Darren would inevitably make Eli do, he decided to wear a more athletically appropriate outfit for a change. He was adorned with a black sweatshirt covered by a hoodie that he could easily take off, black sweatpants with blue stripes down the sides, blue tennis shoes that were easy for him to maneuver in, and if course his black headphones that he was rarely seen without.
He finally arrived at the recently finished building for the martial arts club and saw a girl burst the door open. Her confidence could match Darrens from the looks of it. He saw many different martial arts type things like bamboo sticks, sand bags, a tennis ball launcher, plenty of weapons, and an octagonal ring. Darren actually managed to go through with it.
He walked past the girl who opened the door, neglecting to introduce himself. He went over to Darren to join the your. "Hey Darren! Mind if I join in on the party?"

away from the uh, drama..." Crimson Hare That hat suits him in all the wrong ways… The crested delinquent today covering up his towering quiff with what at first glance looked like something a police or military officer might wear, Akane hadn’t noticed the piece of headgear at first given how startled she had been but as she was left there with little to do but look over the dreaded Daimon Darren the redhead felt an even greater sense of foreboding given the style his cap implied. This sort of thing a rarity these days in person but one of those old clichés that would pop up on characters from TV Series or Comic Book Stories every now and then, usually they were worn by gang leaders and ruffians that fancied themselves as captains of ill will in the streets and really suited this boy. Which, to the mind of the emerald eyed lass, was a bad thing.
Thank goodness! I’m not alone… The body bind that her surprise had locked her in breaking as another person stepped into the gym and seemed to distract he boy in front of her, while Miss Satsuki couldn’t exactly approve of the way that her scantily clad visage drew a leering eye from the thug in front of her, she was glad of the appearance of this blonde stranger all the same.
I don’t know who she is but the hair and speech style make her seem a little like Jasmine? Letting out a little bit of a sigh of relief as this unknown girl spoke up in a manner that seemed to be lacking in refinement, while she seemed a little rough around the edges the simple truth was that it meant that should she wish to spar or do some other kind of paired activity, the young bunny was hopeful this would mean she wouldn’t be stuck teaming up with their intimidating leader.
Well, at least the equipment looks good, though cage fighting feels a little advanced? Following behind Darren with a rather wise birth as he offered a tour to the two new entrants to the club, while the lad who led the tour of the club was a worrisome prospect, what had been gathered wasn’t for the most part.
And… Are we to be practicing dodging gunfire? It looking like the room had been fitted out with some pretty good equipment, even if the idea of challenging one another inside a cage seemed a little over the top for an afterschool group Akane didn’t seem as puzzled by the presence of such a structure as she was the sort of cannon-looking thing. That certainly seemed to reek of Mr Daimon’s over the top attitude far more than anything else.
“I-I’ll um, p-pass…” The blonde boy seeming to grow bored of his guiding role quite quickly, while this wasn’t much of a surprise for a student who had shared a classroom every day with him and his restless habits, she felt no urge to indulge the apparent club leader in his desire to do damage to others.
I don’t trust him to hold back, really… Hearing the rumour that he had put another student in the infirmary with a training session which had gone way too far, even though she was an accomplished martial artist Miss Satsuki didn’t much like the idea of engaging in such a barbaric form of battle education. Sure she didn’t mind taking a few nasty knocks and had seen her share of bruises, but getting laid up was sure to be more a detriment than anything, especially when it felt like her prospective partner would be doing it out of a desire for entertainment, apparently.
Maybe they’ll distract him enough to stop him in his tracks? Looking toward the unknown blonde who had joined her in the room with Darren and wondering if this somewhat wild haired girl might share her feelings, when the door swung open and another boy entered the room, once again Akane felt relieved to realize that the attention of their host would be further divided.
Eli Bantis, isn’t he? A slender fellow with maybe an inch or two in height over her and noticeably bright hair stepping into the dojo and showing a sense of familiarity with their glorious leader that the redhead hoped would mean she would get left alone by the capped team captain, while she wasn’t overly familiar with the newest person in the Martial Arts club the fact that they had shared a classroom meant that Akane was at least familiar with the lad enough to know his name.
I should get warmed up a bit on the bag before I try something more intense… Using the distraction provided by Mr Bantis to slip away from the short tour and lift up a set of red pads to wrap around her hands and feet as she decided it would be better to use the facilities rather than flee the room as she had initially intended, Miss Satsuki quietly shuffled over to one of the hanging sacks that could absorb her blows and hot herself gloved up. Pushing her hands inside the protective equipment and closing her eyes as she a deep breath to get focused, after opening them the green gaze of the girl looked that little bit sharper and she began to jab at the bag in a fast but moderately forceful fashion to get blood flowing and body limbered up…

ait and see... Those three tried and tested words drove Kanna's motivation to check out this new club, and for a change, she'd yet to be disappointed. The club president sized up and checked out his two recruits all in one, giving a few extra moments for any further arrivals. Kanna snickered as one girl from her class announced herself with a rather obvious drug reference, the kind that only those who were in on it might pick up on... And the blonde obviously did. Though they never talked, she naturally remembered her classmate, even if not what breed of power she posessed... They'd never gotten that far. As for the blond guy who entered after her, well... She knew his name, Eli, but pretty much nothing beyond that. There's only so much she could learn without a bit of internet stalking. Finding out people's names and faces to go with those names could only take her so far. Now that they all showed interest in the same club, odds were they'd get to know each other over the course of the coming months. Even the reclusive Kanna understood how she often formed stronger bonds with her fellow MMA students than her classmates... No doubt the same would hold true here. So when Darren threw his punches at the sandbags, she couldn't help but watch carefully, as if watching how much power he could muster simply while fooling around. His punching technique was all but flawless; at least, her keen eyes could find no fault whatsoever. Defenitely better than hers, though she had yet to see how well he could kick, it wouldn't surprise her if he favored some form of boxing. A guy like that had to be an all rounded fighter, but when he shot her though... Kanna's smirk widened into a grin almost reflexively, jade green eyes meeting his fiery gaze without flinching. So when he asked for a volunteer? She didn't even await for anybody else, or look at them; the blonde only had eyes for Darren, and lest anybody beat her to the punch, she'd speak up: "Omoshiree~... Fine, I'll take you up on that.", no hesitation. Krak, krak... Crackling her knuckles, the grinning Kanna returned his eagerness as she stepped forward towards the tatami, tossing her towel, jacket and bottle aside, and fetching herself some equipment: Of the myriad pairs of gloves on offer, she too went for the smaller MMA gloves as opposed to the more protective boxing option. Sacrificing some protection on her fists for a retained ability to trap and grapple. She doubted she'd rely too much on the latter at least for starters, but she naturally stuck to her preferences when trying out a yet unknown opponent. With her gloves on, she'd take her place as Darren's first opponent, standing about three meters away. Despite her training in Sanda, her basic stance showed no obvious influence of any particular martial art, as she'd sampled many different styles rather than truly immersing herself in one. Body loose and relaxed, she shifted her weight from one foot to the other, leading with her weaker right foot. "Whenever you're ready.", she'd state as she raised her guard, wondering just how strong a guy had to be to lead a martial arts club around here ISHY of THQ & ADOXOGRAPHY |

As Darren gave his tour, more people came in. There was Eli Bantis. The ginger kid who was always wearing headphones seemed to have taken a liking to him. He asked if he could join the party. “Of course you can! Everyone’s accepted in the martial arts club, even little bitches. As long as they’re serious about becoming less of a little bitch.”
Another girl came in. It was the girl from 1A with the dots on her face. She had always struck Darren as quite aloof, and she made a four twenty joke when she came in. Darren nodded. “Welcome, welcome! Even 1-A is allowed in the martial arts club, as long as their follow our rules on little bitches,” declared the delinquent for all to hear.
Akane Satsuki was as meek as ever, blurting out with great effort that she would pass before sheepishly heading towards the punching bags. “Tsk, tsk,” Darren would say to himself as he watched her start to punch the bag. If only he could knock her loose.
Fortunately, there was at least one cool girl in the room, and it was the blonde from the beginning that he'd never seen before. She said without hesitation that she would take him up on the challenge. She elected a pair of 4-oz gloves just as Darren had chosen. A smile drew itself on the delinquent’s face. For those who knew Darren, it augured nothing good.
“Fine, then going from the gloves, let’s go with MMA rules. No eye-poking or any of that shit, tap the mat if you’re giving up,” he said as the girl put up her guard. She was obviously practiced, with a solid sense and a good balance. Darren’s eyes narrowed ever so slightly; he would have to take this bout somewhat seriously if he hoped to prove he had a martial arts club’s president’s chops.
He adopted his own stance, which was loose and open. He was tapping his right cheek with his right fist while his left arm was almost completely relaxed, hanging loosely in front of him, swinging like a pendulum. His body was turned forty-five degrees towards Kanna, his left shoulder in front. The balls of his feet took turns supporting his weight on the tatami.
“You newbies watch and learn from this,” he said addressing Eli and the 1-A dotted girl. “Let’s go, then. Box!”
As he was the one playing the role of the gong, he gave Kanna the courtesy of a half-second before he took a few steps in her direction. He made it look like he was taking his sweet time, but as a soon as he entered what he knew was his range, the loose left arm tensed for a fraction of a second.
Immediately, a jab flicked in the general direction of Kanna’s face. Another one followed suit, seemingly without interruption, and another one. It was the latest punch the coach had taught him; jabbing like he was snapping a wet towel, he was copying Thomas Hearn’s legendary flicker. With a few of those, he prodded the girl’s defense with the curiosity of a toddler prodding an anthill with a stick. |

What a lucky person Ene had been to stumble in at such an exciting moment. Unknown to her how a certain two people had taken her joke wrongly, she skipped over to sit somewhere near the tatami mat. She was glad that her curiosity had paid off, her attention having only been brought to this specific club due to the Daimon's advertising in the universal school chat. Ene had never been the type to give clubs the time of day, but only because she had only ever been oblivious to them.
Though, now her interest had piqued once Daimon had issued a challenge to... she recognized her face, but didn't know her name. Ene at least knew that the girl who had just been challenged was a transfer student and a new classmate, but either Rin had failed to introduce her or Ene just wasn't paying attention. Ene and Chene differed in deciding which one had probably been the case.
As the the spar begun, Ene's eyes fixated on the two figures going at each other in whatever fighting style they preferred. As usual, however, as the fight continued, Ene's mind begin to drift, and her eyes stopped focusing on the two all together.
With an expressionless face, she nonchalantly leaned over to Chene and whispered, "Stop staring at 'im."
"Wha-?!" Chene, taken by surprise, spluttered gibberish as Ene snickered at her flustered reaction. She shook her head, pretending to be disappointed in her constituent, all while failing to hide her widening smile.
Chene's brain, which was technically part of Ene's started trying to come up with excuses once she had gained some composure, "I'm only studying his style!"
"As if that's the only thing you're studying."
"Oh, please!"
The interaction had Ene outwardly trying to stifle her laughter, and it brought her attention back to the match.

imple rules, easy to understand and good enough for any fighter beyond the occasional Krav Maga practicioner. As she heard them, Kanna nodded: "No eyes, no nuts... Got it.", her tone seemed almost cheery, but that may as well have been grin passing that impression. She studied his guard as he took it, and as he advanced, she let her come to him. Indeed, no gong was necessary here, as Darren's mere advance after issuing the rules marked the start of their fight. He wasn't for tradition or any of that shit, better for Kanna who didn't really care for them either. Considering the small distance in height, Kanna preferred to concentrate on his chest and arms first and foremost, following his every step carefully, ready to react to whatever blow came first, her pulse steadily quickened as adrenaline pumped into her blood, sharpening her focus on the foe before her. Underestimating her opponent would be stupidly cocky of her. For every moment into the fight, a nudging certainty of Kanna's would grow stronger and louder, impossible to ignore: He was stronger than her. But stronger doesn't mean better, and she could decide the latter, with this fight. As he dashed in, her loosened body leaned backwards on her dominant left leg, flowing it to an ideal stance to burst through variety of possible attacks on such a fast moving foe. The movement flowed with her foe's advance, increasing the distance between his fist, just enough that he could still reach it, if only barely. With the first jab it all but became clear, he was sizing her out. If she wanted a chance to beat him she had to be quick, decisive. And thus when his left strike fired forth, Darren tapped the back of her left hand with a yielding, but firm enough guard for the distance involved. Reaching her meant using nearly full reach, with remainder absorbed by her flexible guard. Simultaneously, her right wrist rolled as that arm sprung forth like a mousetrap, to catch his jabbing hand on the retreat. At best she'd seize it there for an instant, just enough to better reach her target below. For at the same time her trapping hand reached forth, she unleashed her quick counter, rising her right leg just enough to snap down on his front lead, shifting her hips into the kick to his left shin. At this distance and from her stance, he'd find it nearly impossible to avoid this kick, at least the first one since he had been focused on her guard. Should it connect though, Kanna wouldn't stop there and ride the recoil from her swift impact, letting her leg rise up, rechambering just enough to unleash another kick, this time a bit higher to his thigh on the same side. This time, with the higher angle from her kick as well as the difference between size and weight, Kanna experienced greater recoil, visibly expecting it even judging from the way the'd actively take a single, quick step back. Thus she relied on footwork to skip her left rear off the ground in a mere instant a short retreat no more than a few centimeters long. With a stance that would have let her cope with as many different entrances as possible, the blonde's retaliation aimed to hinder her opponent's attempts at counter attacking at his full speed. Had he attempted to kick Kanna, he'd have been able to either slow his attack or downright block it with her own. While her trapping hand remained loose enough that she'd let him wrench free instead than letting him pull her off balance while on one leg, thus leaving herself ready to retreat earlier should the need arise. Considering the difference in strength, she went for precision, using her lighter weight and frame to her advantage, targeting the same limb in a cerebral, but decisive fashion. Kanna had been defeated too many times in the past, upon closer inspection of her seemingly smooth white skin laid a fair number of scarcely visible scars. An accumulation of minor injuries, some bigger than others, some large enough to leave a mark. A smile that would soon be familiar to the martial arts club members was now on Darren’s lips. It was a fighting smile, cocky and challenging, and it was contrasted with a focused glare. The blonde’s blue eyes were even colder than usual, fixated on their opponent, taking them seriously, but this smile, his damn smile was sending the exact opposite message.
Darren was a master of mind games, a trickster up to his very attitude. But the trickster was doubled by a diligent martial artist, one that practiced regularly, that even found a taste for the runner’s high when doing his roadwork, and one that had punched a thousand (or so) other sandbags before the ones in the martial arts club.
Not only that, but he was also an experienced high-school delinquent of the brawny type. He quirked an eyebrow when the girl caught his wrist after his jab. Not only was it an interesting idea to combine into low kicks, but it required precision to catch his fast left. His smile showed a little teeth now, transitioning ever so smoothly into a smirk, or maybe a grin.
His left leg rose up to catch the low kick on the thick part of the knee, and again but a little too late this time, not expecting her to use another low kick. Beginners often refused to use the same side twice in a row, making them predictable. The girl, whoever her name was, now that he thought of it, clearly wasn’t a beginner.
Doesn’t matter, he thought. He was tough. He could take a few of those. He just set his left leg back down far and stepped in, sweeping his right foot on the floor to join his left, now sweeping his left and stepping in again to match the girl’s retreat. He wrenched his left hand free, and with his step-in, a leading hook was coming from the left and his shit-eating grin from the middle.
Or so it looked like before Darren stopped it and switched it up to a right straight. Her offense was good; why wouldn’t her defense be? With this mentality, he decided he needed to feint and use a fast combination. His left came in again after his right, this time reaching down low for the liver. That new blonde girl had skill, so he acknowledged it with his best shots. His vicious liver blow was the first.
He combined into a quick right straight, or so it seemed again because the punch was another dud. Darren’s left hand came from below again, this time straight in the middle for a short upper, and another one for good measure.
His combination ended on a note that Darren thought poetic and clever, but that was really quite cheesy in fact, with a right leg sweep aimed at the back of the knee aiming to proverbially sweep Kanna off her feet.
The blondie was in fact very proud of his own idiocy and quite childishly hoped that his sweep would work for all the wrong reasons. Forgetting all pretense of appearing like a serious and competent club president, the shitposting engine in the back of his mind had taken over in the middle of the fight and he was dying to say his stupid line, willfully ignoring the mounting awareness he had of the fact that it was incredibly dumb.
Darren was Darren. That much could be said of Darren. |

t the same time as Kanna took a step back, Darren stepped in again. His left hook was obvious, perhaps too obvious, but at the same time Kanna had neither enough time, experience, nor knowledge of her opponent to antecipate the feint. She was only barely in range for his left hook, enough to confidently block it with her weaker right arm. Once more he had that left leg in the lead, and so long as that remained true, Kanna would keep targeting it. Thus the moment she saw him advance as such, she kept her guard up to carefully shield her head from that strong left, leaning back just enough to keep him from hitting her squarely and knocking her completely off balance. If that happened, trying to raise her left leg off the ground would have cost her dearly... After all, sso long as Darren kept leading with his left leg, pressing forth from that side, then Kanna would punish it with every blow she could get off. Thus came her left oblique kick to his knee, boasting all the added power from her dominant leg this time. She had aimed to connect her counter strike at roughly the same time as landed his left hook, either interrupting or reducing its power, it at least disabling his ability to follow up with another punch. Kanna already realized how well he excelled at his punching technique, so logic dictated he'd try to force that game onto her. Only it never came... Mere inches away from her guard, he shifted into an opposite punch right in front of her. Watching his torso allowed her mere milliseconds of extra reaction time, nothing too useful. She had no chance to move out of the way of his right cross, and it came in hard. Just as she could not antecipate the feint though, her opponent would have lost time with it, meaning Kanna's stopping kick could have connected to the side of his left knee. Little chance to actually weaken a blow he'd already thrown, but thankfully she still had her high guard up and body turned slightly to Darren's left, enough so mere centimeters of adjustment would make him connect with her left elbow into his punch before it reached her cheek. The blonde gritted her teeth as even though he struck one of the toughest bones in her body, his punch stung like hell, impact reverberating all the way back to her shoulder: "Ugh...!", a groan escaped her lips, followed by a fierce growl, yet at the same time she knew her opponent wouldn't have gotten off easy from this trade easily. At the same time, "Is that all you got...? That itched a bit~" Nothing wrong with a little smack talk in a bout, not between two delinquents anyway. Get under your opponent's skin, rile him up... Get him to make mistakes. But he obviously packed enough force to knock the staggered blonde two steps back: She was lighter and only just finishing her kick, giving no chance at actually standing her ground. The extra distance would prevent him from continuing his string without rushing back in, and the more she punished one leg, the more it would hurt him to keep closing in. It appeared as if he had her on defensive, and indeed he pretty much had: Though Kanna had not only been using her foe's strength against him, but concentrating all of her counters into a specific part of his body... Unlike him, Kanna very much seemed like to be taking this fight seriously... Or at least, that's what she'd like to say, and yet that nearly childish grin on her face wasn't going away. Darren’s feint worked, somewhat. With his weight on the front leg from the step-in, he couldn’t do much to avoid the kick from the blonde girl and took the full force of it on the side of his knee. He felt that. It made him smirk as he launched his right fist with his weight behind it.
Kanna’s guard was good, and so the fist crashed on her elbow, but it did so with great force. He felt a satisfying blowback in his shoulder and heard a satisfying grunt from his opponent. He smirked at her comment. It seemed to him he came out of the exchange pretty alright, having made her stagger back and all.
“All right, kiddie gloves off, then,” he answered. “Don’t come to me cryin’ an’ complaining after.” He smirked more, enough smirking to put him over the edge of cocky and into annoying.
Or perhaps it was just arrogance, as Darren had the skills to match the bluster. His left knee was smarting a bit. It was all right. It was no matter. He matched Kanna’s tumble with a couple of quick steps and a lazy jab.
Another of Thomas’ Hearns techniques, with a rather boring name but pernicious effect. It was a regular jab; Darren was simply being a little lazy with the pullback, letting his left hang in front, blocking her vision. Maybe she’d try to grab it too. Please do, thought Darren as he pulled his rough shoulder back, his right fist back, and then his torso.
What was happening was that while he was jabbing lazily at her face, he was kicking rather actively at her guts, lifting the left leg she so liked to kick to show her how much punch, or rather kick it still packed, making his upper body lean backwards as he armed it and quickly shuffled his right leg in the space the left previously occupied.
At the same time he pulled the lazy jab back, an energetic left foot would find itself hurled sideways towards Kanna’s stomach in a straight lateral kick, packing the full weight of Darren’s strength and fighting experience. It was the kind of combination a professional fighter could rely on at the world stage, and paired with Darren’s excellent conditioning, it made him a serious threat even without his quirk.
It was the kind of combination that would demonstrate why exactly this blonde shithead of a delinquent was heading the martial arts club of the world’s first heroics school.
And of course, if it landed, he would chase and go for the sweep. Darren was certainly still Darren, even when fighting seriously. |

he didn't have time to get off a quickly reply, her foe was on her soon enough, keeping her on the defensive. To her credit, Kanna recovered her footing quickly enough, just so she could sway her body backwards and right as that lazy jab came her way. Indeed, Kanna had never seen the technique before, and yet she clearly understood its purpose, and reflexively sidestepped to her right, getting ready to do so again in case Darren kept tyring to block her view. The blonde wouldn't really do what her opponent expected her to - by doing the same counter over and over again - and for once that bait was just too obvious... More importantly, she'd need an opening to close the distance, and seeing him lift his left leg off the ground, Kanna knew her earlier bait had worked its charm. Her grin widenened into a knowing smirk as before she knew it, she'd stepped forth, readily flanking onto his unbalanced, wide open left side. Only that raised leg now stood between her and her goal, and to her chagrim, his kick came far too soon, quite a bit sooner than she antecipated. It was all she could do to clench her abs and further turn on her side, grunting as she narrowly avoided the brunt of the kick as it whizzed by: Instead, Darren struck too far off from her center to deal any significant damage, most his momentum instead pushing Kanna onto a spin. A bit of help Kanna clearly benefitted from. Pivoting her forward, inward turned right foot, she spun fast and cleanly into a counter clockwise rotation, lowering her body and stretching her left leg: ready to strike Darren's right calf with an outstretched back sweep. With its left sibling still in the air, Darren had little options to actually avoid the sweep. Kanna didn't really know he'd been trying to do the same to her for this whole time, but even then she'd have only snickered at the irony, and the healthy sprinkle of karmic justice. As she spun out, she'd try to keep her left hand upon Darren's raised leg for as long as possible, maximizing the precision of her counter, and further reducing the chances of him possibly evading it. In any case, she'd promptly follow up with another blow on an even less balanced opponent: Once her left leg took the lead at or near where Darren's right foot previously stood, she'd thrust all her weight into it, shifting her hips into a mighty, full powered right cross: "CHAAAAAI!!!", a bellowing, defeaning cry accompanied her advance, loud enough to stagger anybody not expecting to get shouted at from point blank, further hampering his concentration. Just enough to the first, good hit on her opponent, ready to strike where it might actually hurt for once. Flowing from her spin into the punch, retaining nearly all of her momentum, Kanna put all her weight behind this strike for once: for all his heavier weight, she actually had an opening to explore his lack of balance, and use that extra weight against him. The punch came from her hip, fist drilling as it spun to its final horizonal position, as it sought its target. And just where had Kanna targeted? After having taken Darren's flank and hopefully knocked him down - or at least knocked him off balance - she'd intercept him as he fell punch him in the ribage, his floating ribs to be specific. Should this punch land, Darren would surely end knocked back a few steps for once, allowing the blonde to get back on her feet and raise her guard, her grin widening cockily as she knew from experience just how much that punch would hurt. It obviously hurt her hand either, but Kanna had that fierce, ferocious look on her face, a look that said she was perfectly fine taking some hits to inflict as much punishment on her foes. "Little soon to be getting swept off your feet, no...?", she'd taunt once more ISHY of THQ & ADOXOGRAPHY |
