They day was pleasant enough. It was one of those rare of occasions where the perfect balance between sunlight and a light breeze had been struck, making the weather warm, yet not oppressively so. The constant light wind helped with humidity as well, meaning that there was a wide array of outfits one could feel comfortable in. Maria had dressed appropriately, wearing a simple yellow summer-dress and matching sandals. She usually preferred dressing in layers but the day's weather was promising enough that she couldn't resist dressing a bit more lightly for a change. Besides the dress she also brought along a wide brimmed hat with a sunflower stuck on it as decoration, as well as a small handbag. While the weather was part of the reason why Maria dressed like that, it wasn't all of it. She felt that dressing a bit more lightly and casually was fitting for the occasion. It was funny, Maria had grown so accustomed to dressing up when going out, either as a villain or for a pastime activity that asked for formal dress-code, that she had to adjust her mindset and go out of her way to put on something more casual. But, once she had slipped into the clothes everything else followed and going out likes this felt completely natural for her. A soft sigh still escaped her lips as he made her way down the street. She hadn't even realized she was missing something like this in her life.
It wasn't that going out was unusual for Maria. Or even visiting a cafe for that matter. But, the fact that she was visiting a friend who just so happened to work at a maid cafe was a notable event when Maria's recent schedule was taken into account. She never really lacked free time, she was her own boss after all, but having someone she can spend that free time with? That was surprisingly rare. Being a solo villain, Maria didn't fraternize with other villains easily and her options for a circle of friends beyond that were somewhat limited considering her lifestyle. Rin was a rather fortunate exception to it all. A student aiming to be a hero who knew of Maria's villain background and was happy to be her friend nonetheless. As unlikely as the relationship was, it was one Maria intended to maintain. Doubly so because she felt she owed Rin quite a bit. She had meddled with the girl's life more than once and she wasn't quite sure if it was all for the positive. Still, visits like these made Maria feel like even if they might have started off on the wrong foot, things were going in the right direction.
Maria arrived at the cafe and entered with no hesitation. The interior was fairly inviting. Though high class would probably be the wrong word for it, but there were very few things apparent one could actually criticize. The place was clean, the air fresh and even the decor was surprisingly subdued, for a maid cafe at least. What stood out the most perhaps were the bee and honeycomb motifs that reflected the name of the cafe. As Maria made her way trough the cafe she wondered for a moment if it was unusual for a girl like her to visit a place like this. Would people give her strange looks? Would there be whispers? Maybe someone would even approach her. Maria didn't care much for any of it, but she still found herself considering the possibility and wondering about the unusual nature of that scenario. She picked a free table, a considerable distance away from any of the other patrons at the cafe and sat down. She had picked a slightly secluded spot rather deliberately. While it was hard to really have any "privacy" in a cafe like this, she didn't have to go out of her way and make it unnecessarily more difficult for herself and for Rin.
Having arrived at the cafe and picked a spot, the only thing missing was Maria's friend. Maria put her hat down onto the table in front of her and cleared her throat for a moment. Mustering the best "alpha-bitch" face and voice she could, a quality that came somewhat naturally with her upbringing, Maria called out to one of the blonde maids passing by. "I'd like to speak with your manager immediately.", the words were sharp, sharp enough to hide the fact that Maria was holding back a grin.
Maybe as well start it off with a little joke she thought. Even if it wasn't going to last long.

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Life could be the strangest of things. Only a couple of months ago, Rin had been living in the shadow of her father, incapable of ever standing up for herself, incapable of living her life. Afraid of hte world outside, afraid that she could never measure up to what was neccessary to manage on her own, she had been hesitant, frightened, scared, when the shadow of her father had given way for the divine light of freedom. In these few months, so many radical changes had occured, both within the girl herself, but also her immediate circle. The raven haired maiden had friends now. Friends that, in the times when Rin could not manage on her own, would offer their assistance and support. Friends that, when they struggled, Rin would do her best to assist them in getting back on their feet. It was a curious change. The prospect of failing something, no longer seemed as grim as it had before. Failing was only a problem, if it meant incapability of returning to ones feet. With all the support Rin had behind her, returning to her feet hadn't seemed to be a problem at all.Rin had started this job, at a maid café, incompetent, incapable, frightened and flustered. Even wearing the uniform when others could put their eyes on her, had been an uncomfortable test which she had had to struggle through. Now, mere months later, after having shown time and time again that she was willing to work hard, willing to improve, willing to show up when none of the other maids had dared, Rin had become well respected in the café. Respected enough to have earned a new title. Junior Manager. Currently, that is all it was; A new title, indicating that Rin was learning more of the management side of the café, gaining new responsibilities, bestowed with more authority. Rin had also been promised a raise to her salary, something she was joyous beyond belief about. The world around her was simply coming into place. There seemed to be nothing that could thwart this upwards spiral. Nothin-- Rin-chan, there's a weird looking lady demanding to speak to a manager. Since Ayame-san isn't in, could you go deal with it? Rin's blood practically froze. This was the first time anyone in the café had had open critique, demanding to see a manager. Several ancient horror stories popped up into the raven haired female's mind. There had been so many mentions of how working in retail forced you to interact with horribly selfish people. Taking a deep breath, Rin quietly ruffled her hair, making it appear slightly fluffier. The maid's unform was fitting her petite frame perfectly, giving off an air of allure. Borderline seductive. Stepping out onto the floor, Rin headed over to the table, taking a somewhat cute-confused pose. "Oh my, I heard mistress was havin---" Rin blinked a couple of times, not quite sure if her eyes were deceiving her. Narrowing her eyes, tilting her head to the side.. Yup, the upwards spiral continued. "Maria-chan! Welcome, welcome, to Honey Honey!" Rin was beaming with positive energy, the cutest smile on her lips. It seemed that her genuine personality, sweethearted nature and care for the customers made her fit exceedingly well into a café of this nature. "Can this little bee help you out?~ I can recommend so many delicious things from our menu! Oh, you simply have to try some!"

As the maid walked off, the distress visible in her step, Maria couldn't help but feel at least a tiny bit bad about it all. Of course, her ruse wouldn't last very long so she still allowed herself the slightest of grins. She was still going to make up to them, both to Rin and the other girls working there. She wasn't sure of the cafe gave them a bonus based on revenue, but even if it didn't Maria was going to find a way to make sure more money than usual ended up in the pockets of the girls working there. Although Maria was practically already feeling at home, she still couldn't help but be taken aback by what followed. As she had expected, Rin really did show up. Asking for the manager had been a bit of a gamble from the start as she couldn't be sure that Rin was the only manager there, but it had worked out. However, now that Rin had responded to the call, Maria found herself blinking almost in sync with Rin as if mirroring her confusing.
A moment of silence lingered after Rin had greeted her. Blinking a couple more times, now for emphasis more than anything else, Maria allowed herself a soft chuckle. "My, I didn't know Rin-chan could be this... thespian. And really? You actually have to call girls mistress? I'm kinda amazed." as Maria's amusement slowly faded it was replaced with a feeling of relief. She hadn't been completely sure about how Rin would actually react to having Maria come to her workplace like this, especially unaccounted. But the genuine and warm greetings, and Rin's happy and energetic disposition made it clear that she did not mind one bit. Although she had just shown that she could in fact put up an act, Maria could still tell when the girl was being earnest. Almost as if guessing what Maria's intention was Rin brought up the menu and what the cafe had to offer. Maria opened the small booklet placing it in front of herself before addressing Rin again. "To tell you the truth I primarily came here to see you and your workplace. You were kinda forced to become acquainted with mine so I thought it'd be only fair if I returned the favour." as Maria spoke a faint smile formed on her lips. She still remembered the role she played in Rin's kidnapping and subsequent incident. Considering where Rin was now, it didn't seem all bad, but Maria was still determined to not let go of that memory. It was an important lesson, and she'd rather not go trough the process of learning it twice. Of course, she also made sure to not allow it to colour her interactions with Rin too much. It was true that at first she had reached out to her out of a feeling of guilt and mild pity, but she had quickly grown to genuinely enjoy Rin's company and the friendship they shared. It was something she cherished, not only for Rin's sake, but for her own as well.
"It seems like you have it nice here, I may get into the habit of coming here even on days when you're not working. Although the implications could be a bit weird, with all of the "mistress" stuff. Say, do you get a lot of female customers?" Maria was casually looking trough the menu as she talked, a gentle smile not leaving her lips. "And of course I'm going to try all the things you can recommend me. It'd be rather rude of me to come to Rin-chan's cafe and then not enjoy the fine things on offer." a pause followed as Maria raised her head to look at Rin. "Care to join me? You do get breaks here right? I'd love to share some desserts with you while chatting."

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Somewhere inside the kitchen, one of the other maids noted down how expertly Rin dealt with the situation, seemingly defusing an angry looking customer in a matter of seconds. Meanwhile, Rin was simply pleased to see one of the few friends at the café, that she didn't mind being there. When it came to other students at Yuuei, there was still a bit of embarassment. Working as a maid wasn't a profession many could see Rin fit into. Quite honestly, Rin hadn't felt like she fit in at first. With practice came the confidence. With the confidence came the promotion. Nowadays, Rin was exceedingly pleased at working in the café. Always a warm, welcoming atmosphere. "I wouldn't call it being thespian. I'm merely keeping to the guidelines for being a maid at the café, mistress." Rin emphasized the word a little more strongly this time. Of course, to some extent, working in a maid café was a bit like taking on a role that you'd normally not have. To many, this whole place was one big roleplay. Girls dressed up as maids, offering sublime service, wearing borderline fanservice outfits. To Rin, of course it was the same. There was a lot of her personality that only took effect when she wore the maid outfit. There were many things that the girl could do in the café, without it really making her feel embarassed or belittled, that out in the world, would've had her squealing uncomfortably. Even so, the emotions that were put into the job remained genuine. Rin had a legitimate desire to make the café have a warm and welcoming atmosphere. To make the café be a place where males and females alike could go, simply enjoying some of their time, having a bit of fun in the process. It was over the top, occasionally even on extremely nerdy subjects, and that was completely fine. If this culture allowed the more sheltered people somewhere to go, to loosen up, then that was an admirable goal that Rin could only subscribe to. "My workplace is pretty great, in all honesty! The other maids are nice. The manager can be communicated with, and he appreciates when extra effort is put forth. I'd like to imagine my workplace has yours beat by a wide margin."If not for the fact that Maria had acted like a complaining customer, Rin would've already had to move on, leaivng the woman with just a menu. However, shielded by the fact that they were working out a problem, Rin was afforded a little more time to stand around doing absolutely nothing constructive for the café. "We have a fair share of female customers, actually. Quite a few lesbians have a habit of coming by for the 'eyecandy'. I think some of the maids actually have girlfriends... but, even couples seem to enjoy coming by, from time to time. The service is something anyone could enjoy." That was the honest, down to earth truth. The café was not something that was meant to attract anything specific. Rather, it was to be a little slice of life, where people could go, regardless of who they were, to receive an extraordinary service, kindness, someone to talk to. In that way, the job was quite fulfilling for Rin..."I'm actually off work in about fifteen minutes, give or take, though I cannot sit down in the café to eat with someone. It's one of those company policies. We could sit out back, after I change to regular clothes, maybe?" With that said, Rin slowly rose from her slightly bent forwards position. The time in which she could stand around speaking to Maria, had been used up entirely at this point. Speaking a little louder, Rin simply made a diversion, to get Maria to where she needed to be. "Naturally, mistress. I'll sort you a seating outside shortly. Please, follow me." With that all being said and done, Rin guided Maria outside the café and all the way around the back, to the service entrance. There were two small tables, used by the staff when they were on break. That, and used moderately when guests they knew wished to hang for a bit. Currently the seats were vacated. "Alright, find something in the menu you'd like. I'll be right back, after I explain the situation to my superior." Rin, still full of energy, entered through the service door. Explaining this little antic away wasn't too difficult. Nor was it difficult to convince the staff, to allow Rin to sit out back and eat some desert. They even offered her some workplace discount!

Being called mistress for a second time, now with emphasis did not fail to make Maria chuckle again. It was going to take her a bit of time before she was used to that. She had a feeling Rin may start doing it on purpose if Maria took her time adjusting to it. "Well, you're doing a pretty good job at it honestly. Thespian may be too strong of a word for it, but being able to put up a convincing bit of theatrics can go a long way. And I think that doesn't just apply to your job at this cafe either. It's an important skill for heroes as well... and villains." Maria spoke a bit more quietly at the end. It was the part she was the most confident in, the one where she could fully speak from experience, but it was also something Maria wanted to be discreet about, especially while in her civilian guise like this.
Hearing Rin confirm that the cafe indeed made for a good workplace made Maria glad. Of course from the get-go the cafe looked fairly decent and not necessarily worry-inspiring. But, Maria was still aware of horror stories about working in an environment where the image of the establishment and the appearance of the employees was front and center. Idol culture in particular came to mind, with the strict schedules and level of outside control inflicted upon the lives of the girls who pursued that career. Working at a maid cafe wasn't exactly the same, but Maria saw the potential for some strict and stressful elements to make their way into the profession. Hearing from Rin's own mouth that the place was great was cause for relief. "You don't have to convince me of that... I'm not necessarily enamored with my work all the time either." Maria's tone was still a fraction quieter than how she usually spoke. The statement itself was a case of her giving up some ground without even realizing. Usually she was fully confident and optimistic when it came to her job and what she did, singing the praises for the exciting lifestyle. But it was rather difficult to do so with Rin and Maria couldn't pretend like the girl didn't have a point.
"Huh, how progressive." though there was a hint of surprise in her voice, Maria didn't find it too strange. She herself had come to see the cafe as a pleasant little retreat rather quickly, it probably wasn't much different for many others. Of course, the public at large may look at it as somewhat weird, but Maria didn't feel like she'd struggle too much with coming here just for the nice atmosphere, the food and drinks without feeling particularly awkward about it. Naturally, the fact that she could directly support her friend and her coworkers as well as meet up with said friend played a significant role in endearing the establishment to her, but that didn't change the fact that she wouldn't be forcing herself to go there. She had already told Rin that she wouldn't mind visiting even on days Rin herself didn't have a shift there. Rin went on to confirm what Maria had already suspected, having the maids sit down to eat with customers was a no-go. Maria was hardly surprised and she didn't exactly hold it against the cafe either. Setting a precedent like that could lead to trouble further down the line if people suddenly started making request and it could ruin the "immersion" for some of the customers as well. Still, by the sound of it they could make a little meeting work, if in a slightly roundabout way. "Works for me, Rin-chan is Rin-chan, maid outfit or not." Maria in fact Rin raising her voice and announcing what was happening brought a grin to Maria's face. Rin was proving herself to be quick on her feet when it came to this sort of thing, and this time the theatrics weren't fully in the service of the cafe either. "Please lead the way." Maria said in a louder, somewhat distinguished tone, playing along as she got up to follow Rin.
Once they made their way to the back, Maria got comfortable and took a look at the menu just as Rin had suggested. "You do the same. Don't even think I'm not treating you to something while I'm visiting." Maria called out to Rin as the girl walked away. Maria was a bit of a picky eater, but most of the things were enticing enough as a little snack. After a minute of looking trough the pages she settle for honey cake, a milkshake and strawberry tarts. As simple as it all was, Maria was rather looking forward to it. It had been a while since she treated herself to something sweet. Even more so considering she was going to share it with a friend.
She continued to absentmindedly turn the pages of the menu as she waited for Rin to return.

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy "I'm slowly learning how to keep people content. Even if that means using a slight bit of deception. It's still something I'm working on, though." Rin answered, honestly. When the two of them had met, there had been no such notions within the girl. There had been no social skills worth noting. Rin was simply fortunate that the genuine foundation that the girl built her world upon, had been endearing enough to build her friends afterall. After earning friends, the other social aspects had come to her gradually. Every single few weeks, there was a visible improvement in Rin's ability to interact with others. Slipping through the door, Rin gave a short wave to Maria as she was leaving.Just as Rin might've figured, the vast majority of the end of this shift, was related to management decisions. Taking care of complaints, sorting out apologies and reconpensation. Even if the little café was a wonderful little slice of heaven, it certainly wasn't perfect. Thus, mistakes would happen on occasion. Even so, for the last ten or so minutes before Ayame-chan returned, allowing Rin to finally take the rest of the day off, the café was mostly managing itself. Allowing Rin to simply keep track of tables and customers. A paper toilet roll missing in a toilet, a soap dispenser having run dry. It was the most minute things that Rin was dealing with currently. All of it being dealt with, while an unwavering smile was present on Rin's lips. It was about halfway through this little process, that another maid, having heard of Rin's little arrangement, headed out back to take Maria's order. Respectful, sweet, talking to The Mistress in much the same way Rin had been, it certainly seemed all the maids were, more or less, on the same page. Quickly asking Maria, the maid, Kumiko, was only attempting to make sure that Maria was fine with paying for Rin's desert and stuff as well. - Apparently, Rin had placed her order within the kitchen, so they wouldn't have to wait for forever for their deserts. Fifteen minutes hadn't been quite right. It took a solid twenty minutes, maybe twenty-five minutes, before the raven haired female stepped outside. The girl's hair was wet, having a fresh scent of soap to it. The maid outfit had been replaced with a simple summer's dress and sandals. The raven dark hair, having been tied into a simple ponytail, was giving Rin an exceedingly casual appearance. Cute, yet still casual. There was a soft grace over the girl, as she sat down in front of Maria, a content sigh leaving her pursed lips. Off of work, it was clear that the girl's energy levels seemed to have dropped. Either that, or Rin was simply more relaxed as the spotlight wasn't shining directly into her eyes. Being in charge, having responsibility, regardless of how amazing of workplace it was, it was still draining having to deal with. Barely had Rin sat down, before Kumiko came out, smiling warmly to the both of them. For Maria, the woman had received the order she had placed, alongside the signature honey and ginger cookies that came with any purchase. For Rin, Kumiko had brought a mixed drink and a plate with waffles and softice, plus a small soda. A very simple desert, yet delicious. The drink was a monstrocity. It had cream, icecream, banana, pineapple, small pieces of chocolate and other berries. It seemed like a mixture between a drunk and a desert. Perhaps that is why Rin had both a straw and a spoon."Ahh, it feels so good to be done for the day. I feel so accomplished, you know?.. Having had a good day, without any complications. For the rest of the day, I can do whatever I want~" Placing her lips against the straw, Rin sucked a bit of the drink inside her mouth. The mixture of fruit, berries and sweetness was heavenly, especially when combined with the waffles at her side. What a perfect way to end a long shift.

It seemed Rin too was aware of her own progress. It made Maria doubly glad. Noticing how well she was doing was bound to help build up Rin's confidence. From the start, having seen the situation Rin was in and having taken part in deteriorating it further, Maria hadn't been sure how quickly Rin would recover, but so far she seemed to be doing great despite everything that had happened. Maria was determined to keep it that way.
The wait for Rin to return did not end up being particularly long, in the meantime another maid had already taken Maria's order as well as confirmed the paying arrangement. It amused Maria somewhat to see that the other employees here were treating her just as kindly. It was almost a bit alien at first, but getting used to it was rather easy and in a way it added to the charm of the place. As the maid waitress was leaving Maria made a mental note to ask Rin a couple questions. She still intended to sweeten the day for the maids working there and repay them for the little joke she pulled on Rin when she had arrived at the cafe. Rin took a bit longer than expected, but sure enough she joined Maria with a new outfit to boot. Both of them had chosen to wear a summer dress it seemed. Maria smiled as Rin sat down with a sigh. "Honestly I think that's an even better fit than the maid uniform. Cuter too." Maria half-teased and half-complimented the girl sitting opposite her. Rin's own order seemed a bit smaller than Maria, mostly due to the fact that Maria had ordered a small cake for herself. Not that she had any intention of eating the whole thing on her own, as small as it was. "Ooh, we gotta share. I have no idea what that drink you have there is, but I wanna try." Maria said as she noticed the rather over the top and excessive arrangement. Maria first took a bite of the complimentary cookies, rather than turning to her order right away. Digging right into the cake would just be a bit too much. "Speaking of which, you're not the only sweet maid here it seems. All the girls look like they're doing a pretty good job. What's the policy here with tips and the like? I think I gave the one who tried to serve me first a heart attack, I wouldn't feel good about it if I didn't make it up to them at least a little bit.", Maria was almost certain the cafe had to have some sort of system to let the maids earn a bit extra, but she wasn't sure that just throwing them money into their lap was the way to go.
Rin sounded rather content as she spoke about her workday. However Maria imagined that the girl also had to be at least a little bit tired. "Mhm, I tend to feel the same way. Though I guess when I finish a job the relief comes with a couple different aspects to it. But yeah, once it's done, nothing really beats going home and having a shower, knowing the things you took care of are done and they're done well." Maria sighed as she took a sip of her milkshake. All she said was even more true now with the weather getting hotter and hotter. "And I'm glad I don't have to tell you that you need to put time aside for yourself as well. Both a fairly demanding job and U.A. at the same time can be rather taxing I imagine. Even more so since U.A. is a lot more demanding than the average high school. Actually, how is there anyway? Anything interesting happening? I don't really have much insight into what goes on there, even if my profession kinda dictates that I should."

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy After swallowing a decent chug of the drink, Rin turned her attention onto the waffles. With the fork, she chipped a bit of the waffle off, before adding a bit of the softice, creating an absolutely wondrous single bite of sweetness. The warmth of the waffle contrasting the cold of the ice, giving an almost magical experience between her lips. A soft breath left her lips, as her attention eventually returned to Maria, plus the things that the woman was speaking. Raising an eyebrow inquisitively, Rin wasn't entirely sure what that coy tone was. It seemed like borderline flirting, yet Rin knew full well that Maria was not going to be flirting with her. That mixed the signals up in her head, resulting in her just giving Maria a somewhat bland stare. Rin wasn't sure how to reply to that, so the raven haired female opted to say and do nothing spectacular. All Maria received was a confused shrug. Sipping on the drink once again, a soft smirk spread across her lips while the straw was in her mouth. Of course Maria had gained interest for a drink immediately after having ordered. Letting go of the straw, Rin chuckled softly. "It's actually part of our sales. To make the dishes and drinks look so appetizing and interesting that customers are more likely to buy more. Here, you can have the rest, I'll stick to my soda." Rin quietly nudged the drink across the table, little by little, until it stood in front of Maria. There was still about half of it left, as Rin returned to the waffle. "As for your desert, I'm not that into the cakes. The waffle suits me fine, thank you." That's when Maria brought up the question of tips and recompense. Scratching her cheek idly, it certainly hadn't been the best way to go about a funny little joke. Though Rin had already explained most of the shenaniganry inside the kitchens. It wasn't the first time, and certainly wouldn't be the last, that a paying customer was jokingly being obnoxious. "..Well, the way tips work here, is that you can buy a picture together with the maid that served you. Said purchase functions as the tip. We're not allowed to receive direct tips from customers. The one exception is, when foreigners, who are unaware of the maid café culture, follow their own customs. Rather than souring the mood by upholding rules, we're encouraged to appreciate it. Hopefully said customers will then read the rules more carefully next time." Digging into the waffle again, there wasn't a lot remaining. The sweetness from the former drink and the icecream, washed down with the soda. These deserts had a ton of sugar and calories in them. Perfect for Rin, who needed insane amounts of energy readily available in her system."Yuuei's quite alright. My classmates seem to be mostly reliable, with a few minor kinks here and there. The teachers range from batshit crazy, pushing us into impossible situations, to someone like the nurse, who is... for all intents and purposes, just a kind sweetheart that wants to keep us all safe. I really appreciate all the things she's teaching me." Rin seemed thoughtful. Aside from very regular days, with very regular training menu's, Yuuei wasn't really all that special. "Honestly, aside from the training to be heroes, it's pretty much a regular highschool. I think. I'm not sure, never been to any other highschool.." Rin ended up admitting, shrugging, as she slowly finished her waffle. Such a delicious treat to end a long day of work.

Rin seemed to be more confused than flustered by Maria's comments. But, that was amusing in its own right, enough for Maria to let out a soft chuckle. Maybe Rin took the comments just a bit too seriously. Not that Maria was dishonest in any way, but it was still fun to see Rin try and process the compliments. Maria's mirth wasn't to last long however as it was soon Rin's turn to chuckle at her. Apparently Maria's desire to have a sip of the colorful drink was rather predictable. "Huh, so I fell for a marketing strategy, hook, line and sinker?" Maria let out a small sigh as she accepted her weakness to commercial engineering. She did always enjoy the finer things in life after all. With the admission out of the way, she wasted no time actually taking a sip. The drink matched up with her expectations surprisingly well, so well in fact that she didn't even feel manipulated in the end. The product's flavour matched its appearance.
Having Rin refuse to take some of Maria's cake was a bit of a problem however. Though Maria could be somewhat of a sweet-tooth at times, there was no way she'd be able to eat the whole cake on her own. Not to mention that even if she could, that didn't mean that she should. Still, that was a worry for later. For the time being Maria would just enjoy the dessert, cutting off a small piece and taking the first bite.
As Maria ate, Rin explained to her how the tips worked at the cafe. It was an interesting system. Maria wondered for a moment if it increased or decreased the number of tips the girls received. In any case it was sure to prevent unwanted pictures being taken so regardless of any of the potential negatives, that benefit alone was most likely enough to justify the policy. Once she was done with Rin she'd go back to the front of the cafe and get herself some pictures. She'd still have to check if she could just get a picture with any of the maids, but at the very least she was going to repay the one who initially approached her. Of course Rin too came to mind, but that was hardly necessary. The two were friends, if Maria wanted to give Rin something nice, she'd give her something nice. Come to think of it, the same was true if she wanted a picture with her friend, she'd just get one. "I see. We can do that later when I'm about to leave then. Hope it won't be too awkward for the girls."
Hearing Rin describe U.A. as almost mundane kinda surprised Maria. She wasn't expecting anything too over the top, but the description she received could very well be due to Rin's more reserved nature. "Mhm, I only know what normal high school is like so I wouldn't know either way. Well, I say normal but it was actually a really posh private one. In any case, my frame of reference here is a bit wonky." though Maria sounded fairly casual about it, she did actually resent the fact that she had so little experience when it came to things of that nature a little bit. It was one of the drawbacks of being born into a rich family. Not that she was the type of complain or lament her tragic fate just because she didn't get to go to a "normal" highschool. She knew well enough that there was a myriad of far worse possibilities out there and as it happens Maria managed to dodge most with her birth into the right family. Even if things didn't work out perfectly in the end, she was thankful for what she had.
Maria smiled as she drank the last bit of the drink Rin had given her. So far every development of that day had been a pleasant one. Now that streak had to end. Trough the same door Maria had entered the back area, a woman came in. The moment Maria laid eyes upon her the smile disappeared from her lips. The woman looked a couple years older than Maria, with straight blue hair, immaculate skin, wearing what could almost be described as a business suit. "Oh, here you are. Thought you could hide in the back huh?" the woman chuckled as she spoke, her tone almost cordial but with an unmistakable edge to it. "Ariadne..." Maria muttered a greeting under her breath, her eyes fixated on the woman. "I hope you appreciate the fact that I came out here myself rather than send some goon." the woman continued with the same tone though it was almost reaching mocking levels now. Maria knew full well that Ariadne decided to show up in person because whatever she had to share with Maria, it wasn't going to be good news for her and Ariadne just wanted to see her reaction. "Well, things were put up for voting, just like you suggested and my proposal was the one that won out in the end." hearing the words Maria's frown deepened. Ariadne was her quasi-partner-in-crime. After Maria expanded her operation, with the arrest of her former boss she found herself working together with a number of other villains with similarly sized organizations. Ariadne was her counter-part in a way and her biggest partner. While Maria managed to work with she couldn't deny that the woman was just unpleasant. They had less of an alliance and more a careful balance of power, keeping each other in check while also collaborating occasionally for their mutual benefit. "So, when the time comes I expect your full support, alright?" Maria replied with a small nod and a muffled "Mhm", doing her best to pay the woman as little attention as possible. Mixing business with pleasure wasn't something Maria was fond of to begin with, but this was possibly one of the worst variations of that occurring. Rin was present, and as far as Maria was concerned she had seen and heard more than enough of Maria's villain business for the rest of her life, having Ariadne come in at her workplace was crossing a line Maria wasn't comfortable with.
"Gotta give it to you though. Good taste. The place looks lovely front and back. And the girls too." Ariadne let her eyes linger on Rin for a moment. "I'd stay and order something, but you know what it's like. Busy, busy, busy." she was already making her way to the door, the words maddeningly sweet and deceptive. "But you know, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to make an official visit. Maybe after a job well done. Bring the boys along too, I'm sure they'd love the place to bits. And oh, you could introduce your little friend here too. But, work first and play later, that's how you like it right? In any case, hope you can prepare on time. I have to run, so, tata for now." with those words, a wave and a grin aimed at Maria Ariadne left.
Maria sunk into her seat a bit. She didn't want that burden on her mind right now. Not on that day. There were so many things to consider, to analyze, to plan for. The voting didn't go as planned. There was a whole operation to prepare for and... there was a threat at the end. Maria was sure of it. She knew it was all just power-games and grandstanding, but it still gave her a knot in her stomach. She wasn't in the mood for it. She wasn't in the right mindset for any of it. Maria crossed her arms over her stomach and took another bite of her cake.
She glanced at Rin watching for a reaction from her friend.

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy For the most part, Yuuei was a regular highschool. They had simple lockers, simple classes, simple daily routines. It was only any different when it came to heroic classes, where students underwent rigorous training schedules so that they could physically maintain the requirements that were put up to heroes. There were often quite a lot of students rummaging around the infirmary with minor or even major injuries from the different practices. The infirmary was also mostly managed by students, with various quirks that could, quite a bit of the way, deal with any trouble that came up. Between the quirks currently available at the infirmary, they could manage pretty much anything of a reasonable level. If things did get a bit overboard though, there wasn't that far to the Tokyo hospital where higher expertised personnel could assist. At Yuuei, they had their own dorm rooms, cafeteria, music, sports, arts and all sorts of other regular activities. Thinking about it, there were far more things that made Yuuei a regular place to study, than there were irregularities. Shrugging softly, Rin simple followed up the statement, in an attempt to make it clear to Maria exactly what they were doing that, to Rin, seemed relatively normal. "We have regular basis classes in math, Japanese, english and so on. We have regular dorm rooms, lockers. Our after school club activities are what I imagine you'd find in a regular highschool. Art, sports, music and the like. Nothing really seems out of place, except for the combat and rescue training we undergo." Sipping on her drink, the two females were approached by someone. Looking at the woman with her sapphire blue eyes, Rin immediately had the sensation that this woman was, in fact, not a woman at all. It was a viper in the guise of a human. The words that were spoken from her lips were venomous and seductive. The things she alluded to, while Rin couldn't quite catch onto the meaning behind them, unpleasant and crude. Rin was fairly certain, with the expressions and demeanor Maria laid bare, that the two of them weren't exactly on the best of terms. Knowing full well what kind of background Maria had, Rin wasn't quite sure how to interact at this point. The hero student inside of her wanted to get up and deal with the situation. This, however, called for the maid café employee. So, turning towards Ariadne, Rin beamed at the woman in an almost rainbow like fashion."First time at Honey Honey, miss? I can assure you the service is as excellent as the decor. If you wish to bring a larger group, mayhaps you want to order in advance. The booking can be quite strict, especially on the weekends."
"My name is Kurama, Rin. Junior Manager, pleased to meet you, Ariadne-san!" Still beaming openly, there wasn't anything about her personality that seemed out of place. Ariadne was greeted with the same warmth as any other customer. Afterall, that was café policy. As long as individuals, even if they were rather shady, were greeted warmly and openly, they were significantly less likely to cause trouble. Afterall, even if Maria and Ariadne had beef, if Ariadne enjoyed hanging out at the café, chances were that their little feud wouldn't affect anyone else. Though, Rin made a little mental note of asking Maria what in the hell was going on. Albeit, almost as quickly as Ariadne had arrived, she decided it was time to move on. Strange, peculiar. Apparently this whole little interaction was only designed to give Maria some kind of message. It all went above Rin's head. The girl didn't quite understand villain lingo... "Take care, we hope to see you again, byee~!" Rin waved enthusiastically as Ariadne left. Waiting patiently for the other woman to disappear, Rin lowered her shoulders, letting out a soft sigh."I cannot tell if she's nice or terribe.. Such a strange tone of voice. I cannot really explain why, but Ariadne-san makes me a bit uncomfortable." Sipping on her soda, Rin ate the last bite of waffle, shuddering slightly internally. Such a strange interaction. At the very least, for the moment, it was over. "Maria-chan, I also cannot remain for too long, or I'll risk missing my train back to Musutafu." Rin then quietly declared, looking at the villain cautiously.

Even Ariadne received a warm welcome. Maria wasn't sure what to make of it all. On one hand, just the idea of Ariadne interacting with Rin was a frightening one, but on the other hand Rin's sweet approach may have helped to defuse the situation, though Maria couldn't be certain either way. Ariadne was just incredibly hard to read for her. There were times when the woman was reasonable enough, it's the reason why Maria was willing to work with her in the first place, but she could also turn on a dime and be a downright bitch with little to no provocation. Still, considering that she was leaving she didn't have enough time to cause an incident. Rin's words only brought out an infuriatingly self-satisfied and smug grin, aimed at Maria before Ariadne disappeared. It all soured Maria's mood far more than it should have, in fact she knew that was most likely Ariadne's goal from the start, yet even with that knowledge in mind Maria could not help herself. She didn't have control over the situation, so all she could really hope for now is that Rin and Ariadne never meet again and that the latter doesn't follow up on that idea of bringing her gang along.
Even after she left Maria remained silent for some time. She sipped on her drink some more, but her appetite was already gone. She wouldn't exactly say the day had been ruined, but it certainly didn't seem like it was ending on a high note. Based on Rin's body language Maria could tell the girl knew something was off and once Ariadne had left she confirmed it. Maria fully shared in her sentiment. Even after working with Ariadne for some time and sorta getting to know her, Maria was still in roughly the same position Rin was in, except she had a bit more insight in the terrible side of that woman, which made every interaction just a tiny bit more stressful. The topic was a delicate one and Maria wasn't fully certain how to approach Rin about it. She knew that she couldn't lie to her, that wasn't a solution and would just complicate things further down the line. But, the less Rin knew about Maria's activities as a villain the less danger she was in. It was a difficult balance to strike and it had been weighting on Maria's mind for some time now. It had happened more than once where she got home from a job and almost instinctively called Rin to tell her about an amazing heist she managed to pull off or to complain about whatever had managed to go wrong, only to bite her tongue at the last moment and change topics. Rin was her friend, and she wanted to share things with her, but she couldn't help but feel like it would only burden the aspiring hero. A part of Maria was also afraid, afraid that Rin might think less of her if she shared every detail and told her about every single crime.
Maria sighed, half because of Ariadne, half because of the general feeling of frustration that was welling up inside her. She nodded once before looking Rin in the eyes. "Yeah... you're on the right track. Um, I think I've exposed you enough to the ugly side of my life as is, but Ariadne is part of it. Honestly, I'm not even sure what sort of advice to give you cause I sometimes struggle myself when dealing with her. Best just stay clear of her. She can be incredibly unpleasant, but I don't think she'd go out of her way to target people who don't have anything to do with her usual business. I'm... working on things. To make things better, for everyone. Myself included." Everything Maria said was the truth, but she skimmed over details. About how her and Ariadne planned heists together. How Ariadne sometimes used her position to pressure Maria into going along with things she usually wouldn't. How because of her she had to associate with villains she didn't particularly appreciate. Perhaps calling her a bad influence would be fitting. Except Maria was fully aware that the woman was a bad influence and she was trying to minimize the effect Ariadne was having on her, but she was simply not in a position right now where she could make any big demands. A small shock passed trough Maria as she realized something. "The ugly side of my life", that had been the second time she referred to her villain work as something negative. She didn't use to think like that... what had happened, did her outlook change or was she just more considerate while being around Rin? Maria sighed softly once more and surrendered for the moment. Her mind was burdened with enough things already, she couldn't start looking for answer to those questions on top of that.
Almost as if to offer her an escape, Rin mentioned that she'd have to get going soon. "Oh. I came by car so if you want I can drive you home." Maria offered immediately before letting some of the tension leave her body. Once her focus was on Rin again it became slightly easier not to worry. "Thanks for today. I didn't really figure out how this visit would go down, but... I worried for nothing." Maria offered her thanks and a smile to her friend. She quickly finished what she could off her dessert and got ready to leave. Although Ariadne had gotten her off track for a moment, she still remembered the other maids and her promise. Maria made sure to get as many pictures as she could with as many of the maids as was possible.
Once everything was taken care of Maria made her way to the door. Despite the unpleasant visitor and the thoughts that had swarmed Maria's mind, she'd be able to go home with a smile. Now the only question was if Rin would accompany her.

WORD COUNT: TAGGED: TAGGED: Fluffy Quietly listening to what Maria had to say, Rin nodded quietly. There were several things Maria wasn't proud of. Several aspects of her life that the green haired villain wished she could change. That much had been apparent with how the two of them had been communicating back and forth at times. Hurting others, causing destruction, mayhem, suffering. None of those things were what Maria wished for. There was a somewhat twisted view, from her part, on what heroes and villains were. To Maria, a vast majority seemed to be theatrics. Fake, constructed, to generate a lot of attention, hype, public appreciation, rather than the acts of heroism or villainy themselves. Unfortunately, Maria had been naive. There were villains out there who absolutely didn't care for the theatrical one bit. Villains that wouldn't hesitate in crumbling away all the good things that others had. Their lives, their fortunes, their health. There were twisted individuals who would toy around with any of those things. Those were the villains that absolutely needed to be stopped. Those were in the same group as Maria, currently resided within. Villainy. Rin shuddered to think about it. That was not at all the group Maria belonged in. If Rin had understood the woman correctly, then everything Maria did, was in an effort to move more villains away from actual villainy, more towards the theatrical side of things. Rin had questioned it, several times. If all Maria did was theatrical, then where did all the funds she have come from?.. Somewhere, Maria was making someone suffer. A store clerk that had to produce monery from a cash register would always suffer from having felt threathened. Some may quit their jobs, end up living in poverty for a while. Others may have stress inserted in their life, which could have all sorts of other consequences."Maria-san, these things you're involving yourself with, are not healthy. Attempting to fix the world by living in the shadows, only means no one will have your back if things go south. I strongly advice you reconsider. All of your plans..." Rin said in a quiet tone, slowly getting up from the table, as their little waittress returned, picking up their trays and stuff. Have a good day, see you next shift, Rin-chan! Rin waved back, beaming warmly. The atmosphere here was fantastic... Shaking her head, she returned to looking at Maria. "I can make my way home to Yuuei just fine, Maria-san.. besides, given how she, Ariadne, was behaving, I think you'll be in a lot more trouble if you let her run around doing whatever she wants. It almost seemed like she came here with a warning.." Rin concluded, stretching to her full length, letting out a soft yawn."..Next time, if you come by, please do give me a heads up though. That way I can plan around it a little. Now go, go deal with this Ariadne person. The sooner you get it sorted, the better. That woman seems like a wound that could fester." With those parting words, Rin began leaving the café area, likely leaving Maria somewhat stunted by her replies. It seemed Rin was slowly beginning to grow up. Coming into her own, learning how the world revolved and hung together. The raven haired female was becoming more like a hero every single day. An arm had been extended in an attempt to save Maria as well. Hopefully, it would be enough to make the woman start on some positive changes...[Exit, End.]
