APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY
Appearance:
Nishida Chiyo, aside from his hair color (from his mother’s side), fits the standard appearance of a Japanese student. Brown hair, average height and weight, and no notable markings or scars, he’s honestly quite liable to get lost in a crowd.
Chiyo’s hands are somewhat calloused, a consequence from working with electronics and mechanical equipment for the past several years, and his knees and elbows are somewhat scraped up from fight practice. As a consequence of having to compensate for not having a ‘combat quirk’, Chiyo does have toned arms and legs, indicating that he does lift weights and keep up with pretty stringent exercise.
Although he has decided on a hero name, Chiyo has not finalized a ‘hero’ outfit, opting for a red blazer and light-colored slacks whenever he is out on training. Outside of it, and if he’s not in a school uniform? He wears jeans and a T-Shirt.
POSITIVE
✔ Analytical
✔ Reliable & Trustworthy
✔ Honest
NEGATIVE
✖ Overconfident
✖ Can't "read a room"
✖ Monotone
LIKES
✔ Machines
✔ Board & Card Games
✔ Interesting Quirks
DISLIKES
✖ Loud Music
✖ Crowds
✖ Repeating himself, or people repeating themselves
Personality:
You know that old adage that you’ll never catch an engineer smiling?
Nishida Chiyo is that visage personified. Perhaps he’s laid back, or perhaps he’s numb to the general craziness that can happen in the academy’s laboratories, but its rare to see Chiyo do more than raise his brow over anything. After all, with his quirk, everything is a puzzle that can be solved or a piece that can be put into place.
Having a quirk that provides the ‘answer’ to anything put in front of him has given Chiyo an apathetic shell. Despite how interesting the situation or quirk, he tends to view everything with the same lens and approach them in a similar fashion. And yes, sometimes this view does bite him in the butt, but as its worked for him so far, why change a thing?
Between that, and a relatively dark sense of humor, those who do get to know Nishida Chiyo won’t find anything hidden under that ‘shell’. From the start, he’s a man who wears his heart on his sleeve, and is quite reliable, not making promises he can’t keep and keeping those that he does.
In or out of costume, he’s never going to be the ‘exuberant hero of justice’ that the media needs – but he never intended to be anything like that from the start.

HISTORY
What did it mean to be mundane in this exciting, ever-changing world of quirks and superpowers?
Take Nishida Chiyo. Born sixteen years ago into the so-called Era of Villains, Chiyo didn’t know much else other than the supposed ‘shattered state’ of the world. Regulations against quirks, though an interesting political topic, meant little to the Nishida family. As their quirk was largely an informational one, it was trivial for Chiyo’s parents to simply keep around a pair of sunglasses to be able to use the family’s quirk whenever they wanted. For several years, the family simply kept their noses down, easily keeping a low profile, even as more and more stories about heroes and vigilantes began to flood the news.
The first memory that really stuck out to Chiyo came from when he was eight, while he was out with his father at a corner market for tobacco. Chiyo himself didn’t think much about it: everything about it was normal, up until the two would make their way towards the exit. Feeling a hand on his shoulder, Chiyo paused, looking on as his father casually pulled the fire alarm – and thus, activated the store’s sprinklers – before heading out the front door.
Initially, it was thought that the event was little more than a petty prank, confused store owners turning to anger as they thought to press for damages. But before they viewed the tapes, another question had to be asked:
Why was the tile stained brown?
A few days later, Chiyo’s father flipped through the paper. Apparently, a criminal had just been apprehended the prior evening, one who had a quirk to secrete a sort of gaseous oil – one that would have proven incredibly flammable. “Figured as much. Store might stink, but never like that.”
That event provided the starting point. Though ‘dear old dad’ never thought much about it, from that point on, Chiyo had a fascination for how he saw the world, which developed into curiosity about quirks themselves. And with the oncoming opening of the Hero Academy, Chiyo slowly pieced together his place in this world.
And so begins the story of one of the Academy’s aspiring engineers…
