APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY
Appearance:
Standing tall for his age with broad shoulders, a muscular, well-defined build, square jaw and thick neck, Hibiki cuts an imposing frame. He was always large, and has gotten fairly used to standing out in a crowd, people assuming that he is older than he is and being rather cumbersome in tight spaces. Best likened to a bull more than anything else, it can be assumed that Hibiki moves about with delicate care around anything that he would consider precious or fragile - He is clumsier than he would like, and as he is not only still growing and also still getting used to his prodigious size, he is quite self-conscious about accidentally knocking over or breaking anything.
In a sharp contrast to this, his eyes are large and expressive, boyish, even, crystal green in color and always making what the young man is feeling strikingly clear. The saying regarding "windows to the soul" is proven painfully true by the red-haired teen, who could not lie or conceal his emotions to save his life - his true feelings will always be reflected in those eyes of his, no matter how much he tries to hide them. The length of his hair varies, though he usually keeps it cropped short, varying between a buzz cut that acts as little more than a shade along his scalp to, at the longest, a fuzzy one-inch long affair. Clearly in the throes of puberty, his voice has found itself comfortably in a deep bass tone, and he has just begun to grow soft peach fuzz on his cheeks and chin.
In terms of fashion, Hibiki prefers to keep things simple. Jeans or sweatpants, sneakers and plain shirts, either tees or sleeveless vests, typically purely in one color with either a brand or band name on the front. He rarely accessorizes, never having been one much for personal style. His hero costume is similarly plain, a padded protective vest in a deep red color, with a large black "V" going from the shoulders and meeting into a point near his solar plexus, red slacks with black knee guards stuffed into red boots with black soles and straps, red and black fingerless protective gloves and a red domino mask across his face. For one adept in the short history of heroics, the whole thing is notably similar to the older "Vermilion"'s costume.

Personality:
A simple mind with simple ambitions. Hibiki is a straightforward young man that knows what he wants and doesn't care much for further complexities. This is not out of a lack of critical thinking skills (though, in all fairness, he might be considered a bit dim) but out of a mindset that defaults to concentrate solely on one thing at a time. He is a honest soul who wishes to be a hero to follow in his father's footsteps and continue doing the right thing to make the world a safer place. As a quirker, he feels that this is his responsibility, and that is usually where he leaves the matter at.
Fortunately, this simplicity in thinking and uncomplicated, one-track thinking has also led to a few boons that would aid him in such a career choice. He rarely considers the greater implications of danger in situations before him and he never hesitates enough to actually think over the damage he could suffer, which has lead to a distinct bravery in the boy. He is empathetic and cares greatly for his fellow man by second nature, and he lives his life far more by instinct and emotion than he does higher thought. This has resulted in him practically embodying the idea of "your body moving on its own to protect others" in crisis situations. He will never hesitate to put overs above himself, and he already sees it as his responsibility to ensure the safety of those less capable than himself.
He is an athlete by heart, and with that comes an athlete's competitive spirit. There is little Hibiki enjoys more than the feeling of personal accomplishment. He chases the high of self-improvement habitually, and he always looks for the next record to break, the next weight to lift, the next opponent to beat. He loves measuring himself up against an opponent and having a fair competition, be that in a sport, a combat spar or in academic achievement. Having someone else to compare himself to and try to surpass is the easiest way to motivate him, and he easily gets very invested in any form of competition, matchup or game, often getting overly riled up and taking such things more seriously than most might consider appropriate. That is not to say that he hates losing, he sees a loss more as a chance to improve himself for the future than anything else, but he is someone who takes pride in his success and who will always give it his all in all circumstances, and he often expects the same of those around him.
That is not to say that he does not know his own limits. In fact, Hibiki would be the furthest thing from egotistical according to most that get to know him. Humility is a virtue in his mind, and he always tries to keep his own shortcomings in mind, how to improve upon them and how to work around them. He knows that he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, he knows that there are quirks far more impressive than he is, he knows that he is occasionally clumsy and rough around the edges. These shortcomings are not something that bother him, he simply views them as weak points to work on in the future, and he has no issue admitting when someone is better than him - not that he will use it to be self-deprecating, he is simply very realistic about what he can and cannot do compared to those around him.
Hibiki detests liars and falsehood. Being one who is never afraid to speak his mind himself, he sees purposeful subterfuge as one of the greatest violations of trust possible and an act that is near-unforgivable. While mostly being both patient and understanding, he has little tolerance for deception, and him finding out that one has intentionally been misleading him is one of the easiest ways to immediately cut off all ties with the young man. He has no patience for it, and holds the ability to trust and be open with those he considers close to him in highest regard.

HISTORY
His story did not begin with him.
Rather, to properly and fully understand Hibiki Toriyama, one has to discuss his father, Tatsuya Toriyama. As one of the quirkers who emerged during the early stages of the Era of Villains, the young Tatsuya was a steadfast and determined sort, who early on began to see the damages caused by villains ravaging across the world and, as someone with extraordinary abilities of his own, saw it as his responsibility to defend the people around him to the best of his ability. Gifted with an enhanced physique and incredible regenerative abilities, Tatsuya became the vigilante known as Vermilion, the diehard brawler who could recover from any injury. Always passionate and free-spoken, Vermilion became one who spoke loudly against quirker persecution and what he regarded as an unwillingness from the general public to accept the necessary nature of vigilantes in this new era, which earned him no shortage of ire and enemies in his early years.
Yet, as the very image of perseverance, Vermilion would continue carrying out his mission, living a double life as a simple industrial worker by day and a quirker crimefighter by night. Eventually, he would marry a woman by the name of Aoko Toriyama and together, they would have Hibiki.
For most of Hibiki's early years he would be unaware of his father's secret identity, living the normal life of a Japanese child. He always had a talent and a head for athletics, and he spent his middle school years being heavily engaged in and loving the sport of soccer. The fact that he was a quirker did not begin to surface before somewhere between his eighth and ninth birthday, when it became clear that nicks, scabs and bruises disappeared at nearly twice the speed of his peers. This natural recovery would only accelerate, until it was completely undeniable that it was something extraordinary. Initially, Hibiki was fearful, hiding his quirk from his peers and his parents alike, still ignorant of his father's identity as Vermilion and not knowing what to do with himself. This short period between his ninth and eleventh years were one of the lowest points in his short life, filled with doubt, uncertainty on what he should even think of himself, what he ought to do with himself. Living every day with the fear that his peers would find out and ostracize him like he knew that many other quirkers were.
Then, as of new programs were implemented and the Hero Act was established, everything changed for him. He was invited down to his family's living room one evening to talk with his parents. His father revealed to him that he was Vermilion, the vigilante, and that he was to sign up for the brand-new hero program. The immediate emotional response from the young Hibiki was simple: anger. All of the fear, all of the doubt, all of the pain that he had felt for the past years, all of the lengths he had went through in an attempt to hide his nature as a quirker to everyone around him, only to find out that his father was much of the same, and that his mother knew? That the both of them had lied to him all this time? He screamed, he cursed, he threw things. He did not wish to speak to his mother nor father for days. It was only as he saw the news reports featuring his father, as he saw Vermilion making the transition from vigilante to pro hero and the ensuing battles between the newly minted heroes and the countless villains that he began to come around. He began to see things from another perspective, to understand the danger that his father was putting himself through, and why he was doing it. Spite was replaced by shame, and by admiration. Tearful apologies and reconciliations were made between parents and son, and Hibiki knew what it was that he wanted to be from that day on.
He began training, began honing his body, began taking self-defense courses, began to experiment and test the limits of his quirk. He understood now, he had a newfound sense of purpose. His quirk was nothing to be ashamed of, who he was and who his father was were not things to reject. His heritage was a gift. A chance to make the world a better place, and an obligation to protect those who could not protect themselves and something to take great pride in. As soon as he was of age, he would enroll in the recently formed hero academy, modeling himself after the one who came before him. He knew who he was now. He knew what he was.
He was a hero to be. He was going to become one of Japan's chief protectors.
He was going to be Young Vermilion.
