Ah damn, was he gonna make it!? He loved the apps that pinged him whenever there was a hero event in his area he might be able to get to, but a lot of the time they overestimated the time it'd take for a hero to arrive on the scene and handle everything. By the time he got to a lot of them the hero was just putting cuffs on the criminals before darting off to the next bit of anarchy in the city. Still afraid to tap into his quirk, Casper struggled to run all that fast or even for all that long, but with the chance to see a hero on the line? He pushed through the burning sensation in his chest, fingertips grazing the pavement as he nearly toppled on a hard corner turn, dipping through the confused pedestrians who, if anything, were more eager to move in the opposite direction to him.
"Who was it again...?" He pulled out his phone. Apparently there was already a confirmed hero on the scene. Officially it was being recorded as RedHorn but the comments on the app were pretty conflicted on that. No one was giving an official name but the comments made it clear it wasn't Redhorn herself. Some comments seemed dissapointed, some comments seemed all the more invigorated by the action. Casper'd run into this issue with the app before. The official reportings only allowed you to record active pro heroes, so if an apprentice or a sidekick showed up people could only really report the hero they were typically working with. More often than not the pro would show up too, of course, but as the third year of UA drew to a close a lot more students were acting more like solo agents. Not that Casper was gonna complain. Seeing a young hero before they officially made the big time? He'd hold those memories for a while. Heck maybe he'd get a good enough position to video it!
Finally rounding the corner onto the scene, the sound of explosions told him the scene was still unfolding, his chest tight and burning her rushed to the back of the crowd, his small size actually giving him some advantages as he started to wiggle and push through the crowd ahead of him, worming his way right up to the rapid response police barricades that had been formed and resting his hands on them as he caught his breath, heavy panting sounding out in his ears over the chaos of the scene itself.
From what he could tell, the key thing at play here was a car chase that had come to a hard crash, right through the corner of an apartment building. The criminals involved were now holding off against the hero, defending the loot they'd stolen from some place or other. Casper tried to see who was on the scene but... where was everyone looking? The villains were on the ground but...
His eyes tipped up as his tired, oxygen deprived brain caught up, looking to the sky to see who'd be at play today...!

Jasmine had absolutely no idea which God had willed it but it just so happened that she was in her studio on a day that she normally wouldn't have been. Normally at this point the student would've been in class, sitting idly behind a desk and jotting down notes as Perry the Possum talked about history. Instead, the girl had decided to skip altogether in favor of grabbing her hero gear, an updated version of which was delivered directly to her small little office by none other than the special operations divisions themselves. Visually there was nothing new, however the fabrics had been replaced, upgraded to a more strengthened and flexible material that the Spec Ops agents themselves used... albeit lightened as per Jasmine's own request for more mobility.
It was then that she noticed a ping on her phone, the hero app that Red Horn gave Jasmine access to alerting her to a disturbance in her area and whether it was fate or some stupid deity at work Jasmine wasn't about to complain. From what she could tell she was the only one available in the area and she swore she hadn't ever changed into her suit as quickly before.
"Is there anybody in the area?! We need-"
"Caldera, reporting."
"Chief Kokai's...?" As she flew across the air, Jasmine could feel the hesitation in the commanding officer's voice coming through the communications device in her ear. His hesitation was understandable; while Jasmine was by all accounts the opposite of inexperienced and had proved herself as such, she was still only a student. That didn't mean she'd stop. On the contrary, Jasmine's speed only increased as she darted along the air, whizzing between buildings through the use of her explosions.
Finally the comms device buzzed back to life. "We've got hostage a situation. A car crashed inside of an apartment complex. No casualties. Six perps, all armed," the information was quick and precise. The officer proceeded to explain to her what kind of gear the bandits had with them, how many hostages there were in total, and that they were barking out demands.
Cowards.
"Understood, officer. Keep the civilians at a safe distance, I'm almost there."
Not but two minutes later he begun to hail her again, "Caldera, are you far? There's-"
"Look up."
Jasmine shot down from the sky at speeds that made her look like a lightning bolt, immediately crashing through one of the windows inside the apartment complex. Her landing was abrupt, and right on the head of one of the perpetrators. A few civilians shrieked out in horror at the loud noise, panic swelling in their chests at a possible new threat.
Some of the goons immediately drew their weapons, but as they tried the young hero quickly sprung into action, dashing towards them at speeds they were highly unprepared to deal with. Her senses flared, immediately recognizing every threat in a three-sixty radius, taking stock of both the area, every bogie, and every civilian she needed to be mindful of as the brawl ensued.

Casper squeezed the barricade that had been formed tight between his fingers, unconsciously cracking it a little as he watched that dynamic entry of the soon to be heroine bursting through the window like a missile. With the damage done to the building it was easy enough to get snippets of the action even inside the building but Casper was quick to run along the edge of the danger zone and try to get a better view. The noise got more intense as people, including him, started to cheer for the hero on the scene. A few nay sayers, those people who would always be there to denounce such heroes, tried to boo, tried to protest louder, but it was clear that the audience to this was on Caldera's side, and Casper was right there with it. He'd been watching enough of these to even have the confidence to call out her name. "CALDERA! YEEEEAH!~" Back inside the building the criminals who'd found themselves defending their loot from another heist with hostages in this apartment building were shook to their core at the sudden entry of one of the most explosive young heroes on the market. Jaz was quick to take out one of their lesser members who'd been keeping watch at the window, and several others in the building, after a beat of hesitation, rushed to try and get deeper into the building. If a hero was here, they weren't about to fancy their odds at holding out, so they needed to make sure they got themselves some prime hostages to even out the playing field. Of course, the one person to stay behind already had such insurance. Before Caldera could chase the fleeing criminals into the stairwell, a burst of vines grew over the doorway, and following behind a green toned criminal would block her path.
"Sorry hero but you ain't getting through this that easily!" To heighten the element of his threat, more green vines sprouting from this mutated entity were drawn in close, his old, raspy voice a little muted over the muffled cries of a young couple who seemed to inhabit the apartment Caldera now found herself assaulting. They'd each been wrapped in layers of thorny vines, especially about their mouths. While he didn't seem to have the force necessary to squeeze them like a juice box, the thorns on his vines were certainly digging in deeper and harsher as he narrowed his gaze at the young heroine.
"Now why don't you be a good girl... and join 'em!" He reared his arms back before throwing them forward, his fingers shifting into vines themselves as they surged forward and tried to come in to Caldera from both sides. Of course, she'd be speedy enough to dodge if she wanted to, but if she chose to take the attack the vines would mingle and try to wrap about her, trying to constrict as tight as they could and dig in those thorns into her flesh.
Back outside, even with the best angle Casper was only getting the loosest possible details of the fight. It was still enthralling, engaging to see a hero put their life on the line in any sense, even a snippet like this, but he was eager to see more of the scene. His eyes began to look about the building, before finally spotting someone coming out onto the roof. Seemed like they were trying to find another route out... okay good. If another mobile hero showed up they could start fishing people out off the roof, that should be good... great even, it'd reduce the risk for Caldera.

"Damn it!" Jasmine cursed under her breath as her pursuit was quickly halted, strange and large vines blockading her path into the next room. Sparks danced around a clenched fist as it rose, ready to come crashing down against the greenery when a muffled yet terrified howl for help made her freeze. The girl quickly whipped her head around in an attempt to find the source and what she saw quickly made her eyes widen. The voice of the villain felt ten times more chilling with the couple in his sights and while Jasmine wanted nothing more than to free them she knew she couldn't be careless.
The girl pursed her lips as she took one single step back. She let her head hang a little lower as she raised her hands in an attempt to show the villain that she wasn't resisting. The scrape of the ever encroaching vines was painful against the armor coating her legs, further spreading along her torso and arms. She felt them squeeze against her tight in an attempt to constrict her breathing, the arsenal of different moves at her disposal quickly shrinking in number faster than she could account for.
Fuck, she swore inwardly, the gravity of the situation quickly beginning to claw away at her head. While her mind was secretly hoping backup would be coming, she knew it wasn't. While she could pretty much envision Red Horn busting through a wall and taking this asshole to town, she knew that wasn't going to happen. Nobody other than her was in the immediate area and by the time any heroes would come to assist it would be too late. It was just her. Her and her alone. These lives were in her hands.
Memories assaulted her suddenly, those of her vigilante days and how many times she had failed before. This wasn't her first rodeo and yet still that fact didn't make things easier. The weight of innocent lives was a heavy burden to bear and Jasmine wasn't quite sure she was ready yet. The terror in the couple's eyes made her chest swell up with heat. What she did, ultimately, know... was that she had to do something. She chose to answer that call. She chose to help. And when she did make those choices, every other choice ceased to matter.
She couldn't let herself mess this up.
Jasmine's eyes closed as the vines entangled her entire frame. While she heard the mad cackling of the green villain she focused inward. Jasmine's body heat kept climbing and climbing as she dug into every single trick in her book to heighten her level of control. More. More. She knew this didn't have a high chance of working - it had never worked before. But this time it had to. No, she was going to make it work. The heat kept climbing and climbing, every single breath Jasmine exhaled now a gust of hot steam.
If the villain felt what his vines went through he would now begin feeling the heat become uncomfortable. Licks of flame begun to sprout from Jasmine's skin and coated her entire body in bright gold. The next moment Jasmine opened her eyes a large and chaotic explosion of fire ripped through the room they were in, swallowing up everybody present in maddening chaos.
The civilians' muffled screams echoed out in horror as they closed their eyes shut, and yet... they weren't burnt. No, only the vines that held them begun to disintegrate. They, on the other hand, only felt a pleasant warmth envelop them as they bathed in Jasmine's fire. The heroine herself had burnt away the vines that held her, her crimson eyes baring holes into the painfully howling villain, both good and evil set ablaze by the same force with different results.
Within a single flash Jasmine darted forward and slammed a massive haymaker of a fist right into the man's face, sending him flying through the same window she came in and onto the street by the feet of the police, unconscious. Quickly Jasmine ran to the couple, her hands landing on your shoulders, "Are you two hurt?" After deeming them uninjured, Jasmine quickly took hold of both of them and hopped out of the same window.
"Please take care of them," Jasmine asked the police officers who in turn nodded once they had the two civilians safe. "Stay clear. Nobody is getting hurt today." With that declaration firmly in the air, Jasmine darted back into the building, intent on ending this whole charade as fast as possibe.

"The hell're you...?" The plant man, not exactly knowledgeable on any but the most famous heroes, wasn't exactly sure what was going on with the girl so readily taking his vines, but the sense of heat building up registered to him more as a building of power. His signular eye grew wide and a snake like hiss flowed through his lips, shooting his tendrels to her in greater amounts, trying to weigh down on the layer he already had her encased in, wrapping her up like a tight green coccoon and trying to crush her while he could. "I dunno what you're planning kid but you're not.. not... Ah! AHHHH!" The burning golden flame shot up his tendrels, all at once. Some quickly died, cut from the main body in self preservation, but there were too many for him to kill off in time before it reached his torso, his body seizing up as he yelled in pain, his green body browning and drying up rapidly. The civilians were released, and before he could even attempt to consider how to put himself out, the young heroine had him out the window, the gust of air from the drop thankfully enough to put him mostly out, a defeated puff of smoke leaving his lips as the officers rushed in to detain him. "Fuck you kid..." He groaned under his breath. The young couple huddled together the moment they could find their feet, nodding timidly to the heroine that had saved them as she rushed off. The young man of the two reached out as if to ask her to stay or help them get out first, but their partner, knowing others were sitll in danger, pulled him back and helped them both stand up, rushing for a way out. As Jasmine followed the signs of destruction up the stairs, the turning nature of the stairwell, leaving her with constant corners to turn as she rushed up to the higher levels, one of the other members of the team took advantage of that, swinging from the stairs above and slamming a rather scaley foot into the side of her head, crashing Jasmine through a wall and into another abandoned apartment. No hostages this time, but the muscles on this new guy spoke for themselves, twisting his head left and right, popping the bones in what little neck he seemed to have. A shark head mounted on his shoulders, with tribal tattoos etched into the scales. He rolled back his shoulders, scars litterly his body as he followed Jasmine through the rubble. "We're waitin' for a pickup here girly so why don't you scamper on home and we'll be on our way..." He lowered into a fighting stance, baring his rows of teeth, saliva dripping from them with a grotesque viscosity to it, splattering against the floor. "No one needs to get hurt..."
Back on the outside, there was a beat of silence as a golden glow filled Jasmine's level of the apartment building, people wondering what on earth may be happening, but the only answer they needed given as they watched the dired crispy body of the plant man crash down onto the pavement, eyes locked onto the scene for another beat of sheer silence before the crowd grew wilder and started cheering. Some were still watching in nervous anticipation, but others had readily given themselves to the hyper. Knowing she'd be deeper in the building, Casper let his eyes turn to the civilians. Two of them seemed to run out the front door. His bet was the criminals must have all been heading up to the roof then. Good bet, with the Japanese skyline it'd probably be better for them to make a rooftop escape if they knew where they were going. Plus... it'd make the hostages harder to grab.
Speaking of the roof though, his eyes flowed to those up there again. An older looking woman was guiding a small child cautiously down the fire escape, making sure he didn't fall or trip. It looked like they might make it out, but Casper's nerves tensed as he spotted a criminal come out behind them... at least, he assumed so from the pale skin from this distance. He seemed to be looking for the ones they'd let escape..
"H-hey! Officer you gotta-!"
"Back over the barrier kid." The officer gave him a quick, dismissive shove to the shoulder before moving further down the barrier to push back some other rowdy civilians. Casper would call out a few more times trying to get his attention, but it seemed to be no use. His gaze turned back to the woman and child escaping... hopefully they'd make it to the bottom before the goon caught up with them. He could only really hope for that at this stage...

look at me, i'm a reflection of what you wanna be Queen on the throne, none of you pawns can humble me
So. Many. Fucking. Stairs.
Jasmine grunted as she kept on going forward, her ever vigilant senses on the prowl for anybody needing assistance on her way up. The last thug hadn't been too much of a problem to deal with but with how long she'd taken his cohorts managed to get a few steps ahead. How many floors are there, for fuck's sake?! the girl growled internally as she rounded corner after corner of the long circular stairwell. Looked like all of those morning runs did come in handy after all.
What also came in handy were Jasmine's heightened senses at the very moment another goon decided to one up her... or one down her, whichever the correct assessment here was.
Alarm bells flared in Caldera's mind like obnoxiously loud sirens. She couldn't see the attack but she knew it was coming. The girl's eyes narrowed as she raised her arms up at practically the last second, taking the brunt of the surprise assault with her guard fully intact. A small part of her had hoped she'd be able to stand tall through the attack but by the way she was slammed right through a series of walls Jasmine was made rather painfully aware that whoever the perp was this time she could hardly compare him to the last one.
"Ugh..." Jasmine grunted to herself again quietly, wiping off a stray bead of brow from her forehead with the back of her fist. Gleaming azures met the face of what appeared to be the strange yet not at all unfamiliar mix of shark and man... and while she could clearly tell this wasn't Torn, it still made her freeze for a split second. Fighting that behemoth had been anything but easy and she'd be lying if she said a shiver didn't instinctually run down her spine.
Even if she managed to disintegrate him Torn had still been more than a match for her. Hell he managed to hold both her and Mia off at the same time. A pain of memory shot through her ribcage, remembering the bones he ended up shattering into her lungs with brute strength alone.
"Pick up? Nice. That means there's more of you I get to send to the calaboose," Jasmine aptly shot back all while she got into a stance. Her legs spread and her eyes narrowed, muscles tense as she collected herself and tried to size him up. He looked strong. Burly and menacing. But she'd faced something like that dozens of times.
And he was no Mia.
Jasmine's pupils dilated for the briefest of moments before the girl shot forward like a blur, whizzing along the room like a bullet as she darted from left to right. She approached him at breakneck speeds, keeping herself as hard to predict as she possibly could. The moment Caldera was right in front of him she'd use a series of smaller explosions to spin herself around his titanic frame, appearing right above his right shoulder. Arms raised and hands joined together, Jasmine roared as she slammed them down, aiming for the top of the sharkman's head.

"Oh no ya do-HEY!" One thing Jasmine tended to have over opponents who could meet her, or even come close to her strength was definitely her speed, and it was definitely an area she outclassed this guy too. With his arm reared back to try and slam her before she got in two close, he found his fist crashing into the floorboards without an explosive two-toner between his palm and the ground. His short neck tried to twist about his shoulders, beady shark eye growing wide as Jasmine prepped her explosion and fired it down on his head, his chin slamming into the ground.
"Ah feckin-!" Without thought or tactical mind the shark slammed his arm around himself as he rolled onto his back, trying to slam Jasmine out of the air above him before kicking to his feet and spinning to face her wherever she may have ended up. The guys up top were gonna be able to get away if he could just buy some time so if that meant just giving this bitch some shit to deal with he could take it! He felt his scales dislodged and singed atop his head but tried to ignore the low stinging pain, baring his rows of teeth and charging at her with wide arms, trying to make a grab for her before sinking his teeth in wherever he could. "RRAAAGGH!!!"
Back outside Casper was a little more focused on the scene at the side of the building. It was a rough angle to even get a view into that alleyway so he could understand it being hard to notice, but when all that was going on out front was some first aid efforts and tieing up one of the criminals he wasn't able to understand how some people's eyes hadn't started to wander. He glanced about himself, anyone who wasn't looking at the cops and paramedics was just talking amongst themselves or prepping their phone to take a photo. He tried to reach out to another officer but was just told to stay behind the barrier. 'these hero types do autographs after the job kid' was what he got from one of them. With frustration he could only turn his eyes back to the scene unfolding, chest tight.
By now the adult and child had made it down a few levels of the fire escape. The child was a little timid it seemed coming down, but they were making progress. Good, good... but Casper couldn't really feel at ease. It was clear from the peering over the building the pale man who'd been chasing them had figured their way down. His mouth parted and a thin green smog seemed to seep from his mouth. Casper reached out to one of the officers he'd tried before only to get a harsh look and 'They'll be done soon kid' before they moved away from his section of the crowd. Without realizing it his finger tips were starting to crack the edge of the barricade that had been set up.
They'd be fine... they'd be fine they'd be fine they'd be fine they'd-
Casper watched as the top bars of the fire escape snapped. A harsh crack filled his ears... but he couldn't hear that from here? Right?
"Hey stop that kid-!"
"I'M SORRY I'M SORRY I'M SORRY!!!"
Before he'd even realized his instincts purpose he'd followed it. Already having tapped into his quirk he'd snapped the barrier in two like a set of doors blocking him from the scene. He was running without thought, eyes watering, a glance over his shoulder spotting some of the cops following behind him. His chest was tight and the heavy breathing wasn't helping, but at the same moment it felt like nothing. Like it was natural. His eyes turned forward again and as a wandering officer spotted him, his breath caught in his throat. His body dropped, tarmac burning his back as he slid between their legs and found his feet soon after, continuing to run.
Eyes ahead. By now the cops chasing him had started to realize what he'd seen. A few continued to run. Some trying to stop him, some with the same mind as him, no idea how they could help but wanting to do something. Some felt a gut instinct to halt in fear of the fire escape falling on them and Casper would never blame them for that. He should stop. He could hear the metal screeching by now. He should stop. He heard the crash of the fire escape against the opposing wall catching it's weight, a grinding screech as it continued to slide out of place. WHY COULDN'T HE STOP!?
He heard the cry of the child as they lost their grip.
He stopped questioning himself at that point.
Without thought on practicality, danger, consequences, Casper tapped into his quirk. A struggle for him at the best of times. A blue aura coated his right leg on the step forward and he bounded up into the alleyway. No! He wasn't high enough! The soles of his sneakers ground against the brick wall. He couldn't call on his quirk this time. His legs burned as he tried to stop his descent for a fraction of a moment, and burned harder still as he fought against gravity. He earned himself barely a few inches height and a few more feet in distance. His arms reached out and a weight filled them.
He closed his eyes, held it close. For a moment nothing. No sense of the air against him or the cries behind him. With the pain it all hit. The baffled cries from the officers, the yell of frustration from the rooftop, the gasp of suspended fear from the woman on the fire escape. It hit again, again, again. His body skimmed across the floor but he kept his arms in tight. He heard a few cries from the police, telling the woman to climb in one of the lower windows and get to safety.
Casper shakily released the tension in his arms, the poor kid was probably looking more stunned then he was. His body was crying in pain from the crash landing... but he managed to put on the weakest of smiles.
"Y-you okay...?"
With a harsh grimace, the pale man on the rooftop slammed a fist into the edge of the building, glaring at the officers who were about to rush to Casper's aid. A green smog burning away at the the now empty fire escape, burning it as it dripped down and singed the floor below, creating an acidic barrier between Casper and the officers on scene.

look at me, i'm a reflection of what you wanna be Queen on the throne, none of you pawns can humble me
I don't have time for this! Jasmine growled to herself inwardly as her attack made contact, slamming sharkface into the ground. Her tactical mind was doing well to keep her calm and composed but the worry of endangered lives was still omnipresent in the back of her head. How many civilians were still in the area? How many of them are within earshot? How many enemies? How many of them posed a threat to said civilians? Many questions swam in the girl's mind, questions that gnawed at her, demanding for answers.
One step at a time... The two-toned heroine did her best to calm and steel her nerves, acting fast to dodge an incoming counter-attack from her opponent by darting backwards through the use of her smaller repertoire of explosions. Her heels dug into the ground as she slid backwards, small heaps of dust rising as she backpedalled. The moment her momentum halted Jasmine quickly raised her fists in a defensive stance, sharply focused azures glaring down at the finned humanoid before her.
He began to charge at her; it was sloppy and full of openings, looking far too close to an act of desperation rather than some kind of plan. Jasmine's eyes narrowed as she spread her legs apart and lowered her center of gravity, shifting her weight to prepare for the rapidly approaching assault.
Now that Jasmine's training had been refocused towards speed and unpredictability... most seemed to have forgotten that she packed quite a bit of strength behind her slimmed down build.
When it came, she was ready. Reaching out with her own hands she grasped his wrists and held them in place firmly, grunting hoarsely as his strength proved to be enough to make her feet slide backwards a few inches. The second she teld him in place the bandit opened up his large sharktooth-filled maw and lunged forward. Jasmine snarled in response, tilting her head either left or right to avoid getting her whole head bitten off.
She found an opening betweeh chomps and she took it. Squeezing down on the shark's wrists so hard the bones likely fractured Jasmine pulled down on his arms the second he retracted his head between bites. Barring her teeth the heroine slammed her forehead directly into his nose, forcing him to stagger from the sheer force of the attack alone.
Her grip on his wrists loosened but Jasmine didn't relent. Instead the lass launched herself forward, roaring as she hurled her fist back and slammed directly into his maw, shattering dozens of teeth with the sheer strength of her attack and sending the villain barreling through a wall. His body crashed with an audible thud, form dragging against the rough floor quite a ways before finally stopping and slumping, unconscious.
Jasmine huffed to herself as she rubbed her knuckles, eyes quickly scanning the area before refocusing on the stairwell again. She clicked her tongue. They'll be expecting me there. I need to-
She smirked when she noticed the fire escape.
Time to go high.
