Many people, on first meeting Tatsuno, aren't sure if she's butch girl or a pretty boy, and the answer is, in short: yes, and also, she doesn't really care what you think, or… potentially obfuscates it on purpose. Depending on the fit and cut of the day’s outfit, her slim, athletic figure doesn’t give much away; and her fashion choices often don't, either. She tends to wear more masculine or unisex clothing (sportswear, suits, things straight from the punk scene…), but she by no mean limits her wardrobe to that, and not too infrequently takes a dip into slightly more feminine territory (crop tops, short shorts…) or applies a taste of makeup (eyeliner, nail polish…). She does have a genuine interest in fashion, although it's not always easy to see—especially when stuck in a school uniform, or deciding to go for the comfort of athleisurewear and baggy sweaters. Her preferred colours are blue, yellow, and white.

Bold, brash and energetic, Tatsuno has a big personality and is uniquely unskilled at going unnoticed—not necessarily in a good way. Always on the move—or fidgeting with nervous energy when he's not allowed to—he can be amazingly loud, and more than a little obnoxious to a lot of people. For many, he makes up for these annoying shortcomings with his big-hearted, friendly, outgoing attitude, paired with a quick wit and open encouragement that makes it really easy to have a good time in his company. Of course, for others, the jokes are just part and parcel of what makes him an irritant.
He's not stupid, but he is very bad at regulating his attention, and it results in either a sub-par academic performance or a miserable social life while he applies himself overtime to get decent grades.
Essentially a good person, but a bit of a joker, he doesn't always take situations as seriously as he should, and that combined with a bit of an anti-authoritarian streak seems to land him in trouble more often than not. He cares deeply for other peoples' feelings but doesn't have the greatest emotional intelligence, meaning he can quite easily end up bothering or hurting feelings without noticing. And despite the jovial demeanour, he deals with critically low self-esteem and is not at all predisposed to opening up to other people, keeping his true inner feelings (especially anything negative) blocked off and bottled up until they eventually escape in an inevitable cascade of anger.
Unsurprisingly for such an energetic kid, Tatsuno is fond of just about any excuse to move his body, so you'll catch him playing sports, dancing to loud music, or just exercising for the hell of it in the majority of his free time.

HISTORY
- relatively lower-class part of a decently big city
- big family, mother's side with light-emitting quirks and father's side with protective transformations, although only about ½ of family members manifested quirks
- gender non-conforming from early on, family was just kind of like "whatever, this is the least of her many behavioural problems, we'll let her wear what she wants if she'll sit still goddamnit
- quirk manifested with very poor control initially—not only "not doing what she wants it to do" but "doing what she doesn't want it to do
- family relocated to a rural area when tatsuno was 11; she hated it
- demanded to play on boys' teams at school because there were no girls' teams or they sucked
- formed a little gang of misfits in middle school and became very protective of them
- initially dreamed of being a pro athlete but decided heroes were like, even cooler pro athletes, and also, that would let her use her quirk, which she's bad at not using, sometimes

QUIRK INFORMATION
Force Shield
Type: Summon (I think? Possibly just Emitter)

Description: Force Shield allows Tatsuno to produce solid, impermeable barriers in a variety of shapes and sizes. Yellow-tinted and translucent, and approximately a millimetre thick, the shields are extruded directly from any patch of bare skin, and without guidance simply form discs, domes, or spheres. While they are still in the state of formation, Tatsuno can feed them more of his energy to increase their size, duration, and strength, or spend the time to sculpt them into more specific shapes, and move them to a desired location. When satisfied with the construct he has formed, Tastuno can lock it (also a natural consequence of losing contact with it), meaning it will remain in its current position until it dissipates, is destroyed, or sufficient force is applied to relocate it. When a shield is breached, the rest of it rapidly dissolves, from the point of impact outwards.
Producing and maintaining shields takes a certain amount of energy and effort, and the larger or stronger they are, the more complex the shape, or the longer they are intended to endure, the more energy they cost. While there is in theory no upward limit on the number of shields in existence at a given time, the time and energy required place functional limits on shields of any reasonably defensive size and durability. Similarly, he may someday be able to make nigh-impermeable, very long-lasting shields, but at present they yield to relatively little pressure and have a maximum lifespan. The shapes of the shields do have some inherent limits—for example, there will never be any moving parts, and the material remains rigid—but they can be sculpted into a variety of round or bulbous shapes, which can be open-ended (forming e.g. domes or pouches).
Benefits
- Shaping (User): Tatsuno can mould the shields (by hand) into simple shapes while they are forming. Without this intentional sculpting the shields automatically form simple discs (≤30cm²) or domes/spheres (>30cm²).
- Barrier (Summon)—Durability E: As a solid and durable object, Force Shields can function as, well, shields, blocking incoming damage up to their durability rating.
- Lock (Summon)—Resistance E: Once fully summoned, the shields remain locked in place, which may be a floating position, until they fade (over time), are destroyed, or are relocated by a force of equal rank.
Exhaustion and Weaknesses:
Shields take time and energy to produce. Tiny shields (<30cm²) in the simplest shape (discs) at the lowest durability (F) with very short lifespans (1s/one turn or less) can be summoned instantly; a typical defensive shield (~150cm², disc or dome, moderate durability, short lifespan (~10s/max. 2 turns)) take about a second to summon; additional size, strength, complexity of form, and lifespan all increase summoning time and energy consumption exponentially. This can quickly lead to exhaustion, and the channeling time can also leave Tatsuno or allies vulnerable to attack.
Concentration is also vital to the summoning process, and losing it can cause the shield to lock prematurely, which inhibits Tatsuno from applying any further modifications; these imperfectly-summoned shields must be restarted from scratch, or (in a pinch) used in their less-than-ideal states. Combined with Tatsuno's natural distractibility, this means that larger and more intricately-shaped shields have a fairly high rate of error.
The shields have a maximum potential lifespan (equal to stamina per rank).
