Seems a young quirker wanted to see how the mortals lived huh? Interesting enough... but they'd see how the day progressed.
On the outskirts of Tokyo rested one of Tokyo's more advanced training facilities for officers of the law. From your average beat cop trying to pass the academy tests to the more advanced circumstances swat teams and special ops forces had to handle. Their facilities were far from the extreme facilities of say, the Saikyuen company, but for the average human it was more than enough to simulate the efforts they'd have to make to keep the law in these extreme, quirk laden times of super villains and super freaks.
Today these forces had a special guest. The dynamite quirker herself Jasmine Noir. Apparently she'd been showing an interest in wanting more real world experience, which in this case meant something more to the effect of a more intense series of training simulations, ironicaly enough. As good as UA's own training programs where there was... admittadly, a level of flair to them that the typical swat and spec ops forces didn't experience. There was room for drama, room for intricate displays of acting and flair... not so much today.
With a recommendation from the school principal, a former member of this particular spec ops division, Chief Kokai decided he'd do well to... amuse, both Jasmine's request to endure their training program, and himself through her likely failure by accepting her here today. She'd recieved some sharp glances as she made her way in, giving her name and being directed to the armory to suit up for training, a lightweight, slender set of armor designed for motion and durability in equal measure, with several holsters for firearms and specialized equipment should the need arise. none of that was provided in the armory however.
When she was about dressed and ready to ask where she needed to go next, a small bong would sound over solely the speakers in the armory. "Jasmine Noir. Report to Chief Kokai in his office. Second floor." The voice was female, professional, curt and quick. It didn't leave much room for interpretations or questions... not that you COULD reply to a speaker system.
On the second floor, Chief Kokai's office would be clearly marked. It was at the back end of the hallway, away from the stairs. It was moderately sized, nothing too grand or fancy, and cleanly kept. The Chief himself would be sitting at his desk, facing the door, a stern look in his single eye as he linked his fingers together before him. He spoke simply.
"Report."
Once again sharp and to the point. In part he wanted to see her interpretation of such a simple command, looking for her to give her name at the very least, and at most, introduce herself more generally, her reason for wanting this experience today and so on... but he'd sit there, gazing sternly, looking to see what he could make of this hero wannabe.

In hindsight, this was about what Jasmine had expected. She'd had plenty of experiences with the force back in her home country, enough of it to know that most officers of the law did not appreciate quirkers, or people calling themselves heroes. The former were far too difficult to deal with for an everyday run of the mill police officer, the latter threatened to take their job and make their position obsolete. The stern gazes hadn't surprised the wolf, yet she ventured to guess it wasn't so much a form of discrimination but rather dismissal. It didn't take a genius to figure out that these guys took their job seriously. A random kid thinking she could dance with them on equal footing wasn't ever going to be taken positively.
That was fine. Exactly how Jasmine wanted it to be.
The third year steeled herself as she slipped into the snug fit of a lightweight armored suit. The fact that it was a damn near perfect fit was indeed a pleasant surprise. Either they did their research, or said information was passed along to them by the school. Fair enough. Nothing to complain about.
A female's voice boomed through the intercom, signaling it was time to go. Tossing her clothes into a free locker nearby, she quickly made her way towards the second floor and entered the chief's office. His one-eyed gaze was immediately her. Jasmine, not one to back down, returned with one of her own, meeting the Chief Kokai's intense stare with one of her own.
Feet close to one another, frame straight, hands behind her back, Jasmine stood at attention. "Sir." The lass was under no illusion -- she asked to be there. There was no room for her to be an entitled brat thinking they'd be better off with her help. No, she was the one who needed them if she wanted to learn. She was the one who had to acclimate, and as such she figured a good way to start would be to show the Chief the respect he likely deserved.
"Jasmine Noir. Year three Hero course student. Designation: Caldera," she hammered out, tone stoic yet firm. "I thank you for this opportunity that you've given me, sir. Training with the special operations division will undoubtedly be an invaluable experience for me if I am to be able to neutralize any threats to the public effectively and keep the casualties to a minimum." She didn't go into much detail, but the wolf figured the Chief wasn't looking for that, only the essentials. She'd given him her reasons and she was honest about it.
Discipline. She'd heard rumors on the web about how the SpecOps operated and she couldn't help but want to see it with her own two eyes and hopefully learn from it. Even if she wouldn't outright admit it, Jasmine had an innate sense of respect for law enforcement, especially given the times they were in. This notion that regular people were willing to fight quirkers who could very often level entire buildings with relative ease was something that deserved definitive admiration, and the fact that they were able to do it effectively time and time again was undeniable proof that this division was a capable force to be reckoned with. The way she saw it, this was a massive opportunity for her own potential growth, not just as a hero, but as a human being as well.
After having stated her 'report,' Jasmine remained at attention and kept her mouth shut. Her twin emeralds maintained eye-contact with the Chief in an attempt to show him that she was ready to handle anything he threw at her. Confident, yet not arrogant. This was who the ashen haired wolf was.

... Strong start.
The desk between them provided some distance, literally and metaphorically, but as Jasmine took the correct approach with her time here Kokai had to admit he held a strong first impression of this young woman. It didn't change much about his 'pre-impression', but he'd get into that. For now Jasmine at least seemed to earn the right to pull that desk out of the way, pushing up out of his seat and rounding it's side, scooping up a file with the UA logo on the outisde of it, parting it's pages as he glanced through it, his gaze now held more by it than Jasmine herself.
"Jasmine Noir, third year student of UA academy despite having only participated for a fully year prior." He glanced up ever so briefly. It was clear now he had more than just prejudice in his attitude. He'd made the effort to at least find actual reasons to seem annoyed by her presence here today. "If I'm reading this right you've also served under Red Horn for a vast majority of your internship and apprenticeship hours... the 'heroine' who trashed several city blocks because of an anger problem." He glanced up to her again. Most of the public, even a good chunk of law enforcement were told the lie that Redhorn's situation had been due to another villain's quirk-made drug. Kokai didn't seem to be under that impression. "Yes. I know."
He returned to the file, he had been resting his backside against the edge of the desk and now rose to a full stand as he looked over the next page. "I'll give you that you have an exemplary record in both written and practical examinations within UA's systems, buuuut..." He closed up the file and held it behind his back, both his arms wresting there tight. "But as a personality... I don't see why I should tolerate you being here today. You abandoned your studies and through the sheer dumbfounded mercy of your principal and recommendation of your reckless mentor you returned into the full training program as if you'd never left. You flagrantly seem to support arguably the most damaging hero personality I have the displeasure of being aware of... and from your quirk to your very nature you seem to be an explosive person who by all right shouldn't have the temperment for police work. Especially of the standard I expect out of my officers. You've reported. You clearly know your place here today. Now tell me why I should tolerate you beyond a favor to an old colleague of mine."

Ah, there it was. She had to hand it to him. Whereas most of the 'higher ups' she'd met in her time used a dagger to try and stab her in the back, Chief Kokai went straight for bludgeoning with a heavyweight sledgehammer. It wasn't difficult for the wolf to understand what he was doing. Sizing her up. Trying to see what makes her tick... and she had to admit, bringing Mia into the equation had almost worked. Try as she might she couldn't bite back the scowl that appeared on her face, yet she was quick to squash it the moment it came. Eyes closed briefly. A slow inhale. An even slower exhale. You got this, Jaz.
"Mercy? With all due respect, sir, you misunderstand," the ashen haired wolf began, remaining calm and composed as she stared the chief dead in the face. Borderline detached, even, as her voice betrayed not a single shred of emotion, rather remaining stern and vigilant. Her opening statement seemed to have broken through enough to have him face her directly. She could do better. "The reason behind the principal's decision had nothing to do with mercy but rather because I was skilled enough to prove that I still had a place within the third year students even after my unfortunate hiatus."
"You have my records, and as such you can see the effort I put into everything I do. Class. Training. Extra-curricular activities. Even my performance out in the field. Nothing I do has ever been or will ever be taken for granted. Not me being welcomed back to U.A. Not me having the opportunity to stand beside Red Horn. And definitely not the chance I have been given today. I work and fight for every opportunity I get and if I don't get it, then I work even harder to take it for myself."
A battle of words. Boy had it been a while since the third year had taken part in one. It was clear from his speech and tone that the Chief had a certain distaste for heroes. Or rather, heroes who took up unconventional means as opposed to the general consensus of law and order to make ends meet. She... wasn't entirely in disagreement. She sure as shit disagreed with his assessment of Mia, but she couldn't ever say that she didn't understand where he was coming from.
"Perhaps you are right, sir," Jasmine then said, touching on his last statement. "Which is part of the reason I am here. My quirk... isn't exactly subtle. Frankly it's been a pain in the ass ever since I first learned how to use it." The wolf slowly raised her hand, palm open. Emerald eyes stared at her fingers thoughtfully, "I'm not going to stand here and pretend it's not an incredible asset, though. It's why I've spent years trying to control it. But even then, I know that my quirk isn't going to be the answer for everything. It can't be. And I want to be prepared for the day when it's not."
She glanced back at him, eyes burning with confidence as the answer to his question was a simple one. "Because I'll be the best damn candidate you've ever seen," she said, showing not a single hint of doubt in her own words and capabilities. Some might have found her words arrogant. Self-important. Maybe even conceited, to some degree. But in reality Jasmine never thought of herself as somebody at the top of the totem pole, especially not when she herself was her harshest critic. What she did know about herself, though... was that she had the potential and drive to make it happen and she'd be damned if she didn't.

She knew how to play this little game he had to hand that to her. She wasn't being disrespectful, she wasn't 'talking back', she was standing up for herself and putting thing sin terms that showed a sense of humility and acceptance of what she might be put through here today. She wasn't about to go easy on her, that'd certainly defeat the point of holding this view towards her, but at the very least he might feel a little more guilty by the end of the day once he put her through hell. "Well, here I was hoping I could say 'the old boy's gone soft' but if thats really how you see it I suppose I'm just a little out of touch with my old colleague... Besides. It's not like we don't have the facts to back up your claim." He briefly displayed the file. "Though on the hand of 'extra curricular activities' I don't know what you expect me to make of the glorified art class you ran..." Perhaps that one was poking the bear a bit much, but he wasn't one who had much personal value in the arts he'd readily admit that at any turn.
He noted how she didn't counter anything she said about RedHorn... just a fight she didn't think she had the time for? Not one he really had the time to look into either however if she wasn't going to put her foot down about it right this moment. He laid the file back down on the desk behind him, crossing his arms and stepping up to her a little closer. "You can see your faults, the flaws in your methods, and you want to improve. That dosn't earn you my respect but it puts you on the right path. I'm willing to give you a shot today but you don't get the easy treatment cause you're a fresh face. A year and a half of UA training? To be a hero. I have every right to treat you like a trained veteran.Any objection?"
He was standing up into her face with another step closer, glaring down into her eyes, only faintly taller than her but even with his age he had enough of a figure to impose upon the typical cadet with enough gravitas that they'd be ready to soil their uniform... but it wasn't condescending. It was a look that sought respect but also seemed to give it. The only reason you wouldn't take respect from it was if you were the kind to cave...

Jasmine's hand returned to its original position behind her back as she stood and listened. Her eyes hadn't drifted from his for even a second as the lass stood her ground, defiant and unwilling to bow down beyond what was necessary for politeness' sake. She'd wanted to retort with a quip in regards to the principal, at least, but her gut told her to keep her mouth shut, which she did. Not the time nor the place. Hardass was the term that came to mind when it came to Chief Kokai and she wasn't about to try to see if he had a soft spot until she got to know him better.
Her eyes gazed at the file directed her way, seeing mention of the arts club sprawled along the lines. Hatsumomo's writing. That woman really didn't spare any details, looked like. The faintest speck of a knowing smile crossed the wolf's lips as she lowered her head, eyes closed. "In my experience, sir, every person, seasoned or otherwise, needs an outlet to alleviate stress. Doubly so for vastly unprepared kids put under a magnifying glass for the whole world to scrutinize. General arts worked for me, figured I might as well share it with my peers... for a time, anyway."
For all her bravado the wolf couldn't help but tense when confronted with Chief Kokai's imposing presence. Generally, Jasmine was considered tall for a girl, and while she did lose a good bulk of her muscle, she wasn't a person anyone could call scrawny by a long shot. In comparison to the Chief, though, the wolf was made to feel like a toddler.
The female's gaze faltered, if only for the briefest of moments. She'd managed to quickly rebound and steel herself once again, raising her chin up to meet his glare with one of her own. With sharp, narrow eyes, Jasmine had gladly taken this gesture. Seemed she managed to give of an impression that at least made her worthy of him giving her his full attention.
"I wouldn't have it any other way, sir," she responded in kind, leveling the man with the same aura he'd given her. Oozing excitement was concealed by a shroud of confidence that in no way shape or form was counterfeit. She had been looking for something new to learn for quite some time. Not one to shy away from a challenge such as this one, the wolf was fully intending of dedicated all of herself to whatever came next.

His stance remained firm, he could get into a debate about how she listed what was basically a stress relieving hobby as one of her achievements, but she was managing a group, he could see the merit and he only wanted to tackle her with even half valid points. A true nitpick like that was beneath him. She held her ground against him and while she was yet to earn a smile there at least seemed to be a shift in the harshness of his gaze. He maintained eye contact with her for a moment before turning on his heel, reaching for his keys and unlocking a reinforced armory closet at the back end of his office, seeming to contain his own personal equipment.
"Your cleared for duty as far as I'm concerned then. You've signed all the paperwork, you have the go ahead from me, there's no reason to wait around here. We'll be doing an obstacle course run today before attempting a breach and clear scenario." He would continue to speak even as he began clasping parts of equipment over his regular uniform, making sure everything was tight and secure. "Head down to the training field C. Approach my second in command. Responds to Junia. She'll teach you how to prepare your weapon."
(Feel free to timelapse over being taught basic gun-construction and dismantling, the chief will be down to join you by the time your done)

Jasmine stood on, silent, as she watched the chief go about his business, fishing out his own personal equipment from the metallic container of an army locker. Hands still behind her back as she stood at attention, the wolf felt herself getting a little anxious in regards to whatever awaited her. Well, most of all excited, really. She'd been waiting for an opportunity like this for a while now. Principal Kobayashi having agreed to this was the olive branch she needed to start doing something... more. She wouldn't trade her internship with Mia for anything, but there was just some part of her which felt like she could push herself even further than that.
"Sir," Jasmine finished, though offered no salute. This wasn't the military, after all. Wasting no time, the ashen haired lass excused herself from the chief's office and made her way downstairs. A quick inquiry towards a passing-by officer pointed her in the direction of training field C. She quickly made her way down the halls which seemed to be quite empty, surprisingly. Based on how many operatives she'd seen in the previous training area, she reckoned that most worked quite diligently. She admired that.
Once she entered the premises, she immediately spotted who she could only assume was her next instructor. A tall and imposing woman, a tad taller than Jasmine herself. Dark hair. Dark eyes. A no-bullshit expression written all over her face. If the chief was a hardass, she could only imagine what kind of stick this woman had up her ass.
"Junia... ma'am?" She'd ask after approaching, immediately finding herself at attention. She really wasn't looking to many any enemies or a target of herself, which meant she'd have to show as much respect as she could. "Jasmine Noir," she reported, much alike she had to the chief. "I was told by Chief Kokai to find you."
The woman in question, Junia, turned over her shoulder to grace the wolf with the most disinterested expression Jasmine had seen this side of Tokyo. On one hand, it felt like she peered directly into Jasmine's soul. On the other, it felt like she didn't see more than a pile of trash. The wolf had a hard time keeping a snort in.
Within but a few moments Junia nodded and wordlessly ushered Jasmine to approach. "Watch," was the only cue given to the third year as the officer begun to dismantle her sidearm. Jasmine was no gun-whiz, but she'd read enough about the basic weaponry used by officers of the law and special forces alike... well, the weapons that were on the public record, anyway. What Junia was using was a silenced USP Tactical with a red laser sight, decked out with all sorts of attachments that Jasmine couldn't even begin to name.
When Junia took hold of her weapon, the wolf was immediately made aware that she and Chief Kokai seemed to be of a similar mind... which technically shouldn't be surprising given the 'second in command' title. The officer disassembled her sidearm in the blink of an eye and while Jasmine definitely had trouble following, she did her best. The wolf found herself focusing so hard she felt like she was in the midst of a battle of life and death by the time Kokai's second in command re-assembled her weapon.
"Your turn," she instructed, passing the gun over to Jasmine so abruptly the third year almost fumbled.
Gulping down some saliva as she stared at the gun in her hand, Jasmine felt herself hesitating for the briefest of moments. Come on Jaz, focus. You know why you're here. You saw what she did. Don't mess up now, she told herself inwardly, trying to urge herself to get this done. Eyes narrowing as she focused again, she tried to mimic what Junia did to the best of her ability. Screw the silencer off. Push down on the mag release. Pull out the magazine. Turn the sidearm sideways. Pull on the slide to make sure there isn't any ammo left in the barrel. Pull the slide back down again. Hold it there. Click on the slide release. Push it forward, take it off. Put the gun down. Focus on the slide. Pull the recoil spring out. Then take the barrel out. Done.
Jasmine breathed out as she laid the parts down on the desk in front of her, observing each piece to get a good picture of the disassembled gun in her memory. After a quick nod to herself, she went back to work reassembling it. Barrel back into slide. Push it in. Pop. Recoil spring inside of that. Attach the slide to the rest of the gun by sliding it along the rails. Click. Done. Pull the slide to the back. Reinsert the slide release. Let the slide go. Pop. Screw the silencer back on. Check the slide by racking it backwards a few times. Aim it down sights. Pull the trigger a few times. Working perfectly.
It was nowhere near as fast as Junia had done it. Frankly it was clear that Jasmine was a beginner when it came to weaponry, be it small or large arms. Yet Jasmine was still proud of herself. She managed to disassemble and then put back together a goddamn USP after seeing it be done once! ...well, admittedly, Jasmine did read and watch a lot of uTube before coming here, but there was a stark difference between that and the real thing.
She popped the magazine back in and turned to Junia, "Complete, Ma'am."

Junia would narrow their Gaze as Jaz seemed to handle the general procedure of de-constructing and re-constructing their firearm, her arms held tight behind her back and clearly restraining herself from some form of harsh reaction or even a subtle twitch in her facial expressions. She didn't want to seem impressed, nor spiteful that she'd managed to pull it off, just keeping a stern face about it all. Though the mere fact she had to restrain herself probably spoke for itself. She was annoyingly impressed by Jaz's learning speed if this was indeed her first time with a real firearm.
"Everything going well I hope."
The sound of the Chief's voice drew everyone to attention. Jaz may swiftly realize that the troops adjusting their equipment quickly lined up facing the north end of the field, side by side in a firm position. They did not salute. While the chief was indeed their superior and the one who typically lead them into combat, or formed their plans, he was moreso a peer than a superior. Or, at the very least, that is how he preferred to be treated by members of his squad. At this level of operation while there was still a chain of command, everyone had to be on equal footing in his eyes, respecting their positions in equal measure. A team leader was no less valuable than the man designated to carry him out should things turn south.
"Well... it seems our guest is already prepared for the field." He'd shoot a brief dip of his head in Jaz's direction however she lined herself up, before addressing the rest of his team. "Now, we'll be doing a harsh obstacle course in full equipment. We'll then skip the showers and go straight into a breach and clear drill. Think of it as having to rush through harsh terrain and working with the consequences on the job. If mud gets tuck in the plates of your armor, you're gonna have to deal with it. That being said I expect close to record times from all of you. No hesitation for the consequences later, just be prepared to deal with them."
The chief gestured to the obstacle course. What could be seen from here (at least clearly) was about a third of the course. There was a series of punching bags hung by metal frames designed to be bull rushed through while enduring their weight crashing into you, likely suffering some bruising and making sure you weren't knocked on your ass. Next up up a typical tire run to ensure you handled uneven terrain with quick precision, and finally your cliche wall climb. It was unique in that it was a brief height before having a rope to grab for the rest of the climb, and then a long drop that would be arguably unsafe to handle in everyone's current gear. You'd definitely need to have a brief wall run to grab the rope to begin with, but the drop would need some special landing technique to clear without feeling something shift in your knees.
Without another word, the chief made 3 clear gestures with his right hand. The 4 soldiers from the opposing end of the line as Jaz burst and run off. They cleared the first 2 obstacles, the gestures were repeated and another 4 ran. Jaz would be in the next group with Junia likely running beside them.

Jasmine couldn't tell how she'd done; Junia turned out to be impossible to decipher regardless of how proficient the wolf was at reading people. A stern, emotionless face was all the older woman had given her. No comments. No gestures. Nothing. It wasn't hard for her to figure out that that's likely all she'd get. Though, in retrospect, this at least made Jasmine privy to the fact that the Chief's second in command didn't like her very much, whatever the reason for that was.
The chief's appearance and Junia's subsequent lack of response towards his comment told Jasmine she'd done well enough to pass the entry stages. That alone gave her ample amounts of pride swelling in her own chest, yet she was careful to not let it go to her head. This was nothing but a weapon reassembly -- every single recruit was expected to know that much, let alone the Special Operations division, the Chief of which made it very clear the wolf would be treated the same as any of their long standing veterans.
As Kokai entered the premises and his words rung out to the point they felt deafening, Jasmine noticed none of the officers under his command had actually saluted their Chief. While, granted, the wolf hadn't saluted him either, she wasn't under his direct command until just now. The question poked her in the back of her skull, a curiosity she couldn't help but wonder about, yet before she could consider it further the Chief nodded towards her. She straightened her posture, yet didn't say a word.
The obstacle course was perhaps one of the few things Jasmine was infinitely confident about. While she was well aware she wouldn't be able to use her quirk, the lass possessed a physical preparation very few could match as it stood already. Agile, fast, yet sturdy and strong at the same time with a polished set of mobility options that set her apart among athletes and warriors alike. However she was no moron, and she definitely wasn't going to allow this fact turn her into a cocky brat who looked down on people. SpecOps operatives weren't SpecOps operatives just because they were physically more fit than the rest of the batch, nor was it because they likely possessed technology that allowed them to go toe-to-toe with Quirkers. No, it had to be something more, and it was partly because of this insatiable curiosity that Jasmine continued to simply listen and observe.
She couldn't understand what the Chief's hand signals meant on their own merit but by the way the officers under his command begun to move after every beck and call, she caught on quickly enough. The wolf had snuck her way into the back of the pack quietly, trying not to get in anybody's way in the process. She watched as operative after operative jumped into the obstacle course without fear, taking on the challenge with a commanding confidence that made her fully aware of their capabilities.
Chief Kokai's second-in-command had joined Jasmine's group just before it was her turn to go. The second Kokai's signal went up the older woman was gone in a flash, exploding into a lightning fast sprint that had caught the wolf slightly off-guard. Not one to lag behind, Jasmine scurried to follow suit, blasting herself forward with all of the strength the muscles in her legs allowed.
Arms hugged her frame tight and her muscles tensed as she charged at the first punching bag. Her shoulder collided with the object harshly, knocking it out of her way effectively enough... though in the same vein it allowed Jasmine to realize just how heavy and hard those things were. She'd managed to rip apart quite a few punching bags back in the U.A. training facilities, yet those punching bags were a far cry from what she was encountering here. Were these guys really Quirkless?
Jasmine had gone through several more of them by now, quick to realize how difficult it was to tackle them while being fully geared. Normally the wolf's equipment was designed to be lightweight. Flexible, yet sturdy enough to keep a bullet or knife from piercing her skin too easily. That made it easier for her to move around and as a result conserved the stamina needed to push her body forward as she'd have to deal with less weight. The equipment she was wearing now was definitely quite flexible and quite a few times more durable than her suit was... but as a result it was about four times heavier, especially when you considered all the other gear she had on her...
The wolf was just about ready to heave a sigh of relief when one of the punching bags came slamming into her side, making her groan out in painful surprise. Clutching at her side for the briefest of moments, she turned over to the source... where she met the piercingly scrutinizing glare of Junia.
"What are you standing around for? Keep moving." Her tone was cold and harsh. Above all, it was like she was talking down to someone.
Jasmine glared back, defiant. Clenching her fists, the wolf quickly bit back the urge to bark and exploded into another sprint straight into the tire run. Her agility and prowess did wonders for the wolf as she managed to tackle the obstacle course with relative ease, doing well enough that she had managed to even catch up to Junia. The older female glanced over her shoulder, showering the ashen haired lass's efforts with nothing but a glare that showed utter disdain.
Next, the wall run. Junia had managed to reach this particular obstacle first, deftly running up the wall to grab the rope up above. Jasmine followed suit, quickly doing the same, wincing a little as her shoulder still felt the sting of having been hit by the punching bag. Legs firmly on the wall, she pulled herself up, trying her best to go as fast as she can. Even managed to catch up to the second in command... until a stray boot with enough plausible deniability to call it an accident ended up slamming into Jasmine's temple, knocking her back into the ground.
The wolf's breath caught as she hit the concrete below with her back, a few strained coughs leaving her. The other two officers who were with her plus Junia had already made it up the rope as Jasmine glared up at Junia who simply looked down at her from up above. A low growl escaped the wolf as she got back up on her feet and leaped forward, pulling herself up the rope at inhumanly speeds in an attempt to not lag behind.
The second she reached the summit she rolled over the obstacle and darted back down towards the other side. She managed to land with a roll to dampen the fall damage before she immediately got back up on her feet and straightened herself. Her eyes met Junia's cold stare, one that dared the student to make a move... and honestly had it been any other setting Jasmine would've punched her across her dumb face. It took all of her willpower to keep herself from causing a scene. Instead, she kept her eyes directly locked on the other female, never backing down for even a second.
"Where is the next drill?... ma'am."

Kokai would watch Jasmine’s display closer then his other troops. He knew where they could excel and where they could falter, and more than that he made sure they knew it too. Today he wanted to see what the new recruit could handle. So far, so… adequate. She wasn’t using her quirk and as far as he could tell there were no signs she had been tempted to do so either. His arms folded tight across his chest as he observed with his good eye, wanting to see if she was really here cause she felt she had something to learn or just so she could show off. The fact she was limiting herself by now using her quirk, as she rightly should, was a good sign that she was here for the former.
He wasn’t so impressed in Junia. Hazing was natural for new recruits. Put them through the ringer, make ‘em suffer a little, make sure they knew what they were in for but this… this wasn’t hazing. He could tell as much. While Kokai had a disdain for the hero program, feeling it was a bunch of untrained amateurs with fancy tricks, he’d want to prove he could do more than them off his own back, his own hard work. Junia was using every dirty trick in the book to keep Jasmine down here… still he said nothing. This was Jasmine’s challenge and Junia would be reprimanded in his own way, in his own time. He wasn’t about to let Jasmine sit in the smug satisfaction of watching her be called out while she was here.
The course continued, Junia glaring back at Jasmine as she seemed adamant on continuing the course. She kept her chin up and turned to keep running. “Keep up quirks! We’re just getting started!”
As Junia charged ahead the remainder of the course would come into view. A belly crawl under a wire net. Simple, annoying, messy. There was no mud on the course but you were still bound to scuff and catch the plates of your armor against something to say the least. As if to emphasize a difference in motion right after that it was a long sprint to the following obstacle. Simple balance beams really. From someone failing up ahead you could tell if you fall it was a jog back to the beginning, and about a third of the way there was a jump between the log segments to see if you could balance after a leap. Finally, a few teams were starting to call a finish to their run as they climbed sideways across a set of rope ladders hanging over a gap in a series of elevated platforms to give the sensation of a drop, with a final leap to a singular, non ladder rope that landed you on the final platform. Odds were you needed to make sure that last jump had some momentum behind it to make it to the final platform though.

Jasmine growled under her breath as she stared down Junia, the scowl marring her face beginning to display how agitated she was becoming with the woman. Despite her quirk beginning to gather energies which quickly swelled within her chest almost as if as a reaction to the treatment she'd been shown, the wolf was still able to keep herself in check. She wanted nothing more than to punch her across her smug face but at the same time she was well aware of the likely consequences that would follow such actions. The point of this whole visit to the special operations branch of the police was to learn; to be accepted by the team of operatives trained to maintain their composure regardless of how stressful the situation they found themselves in. She'd get her due diligence, just not yet.
A low breath escaped the lass, yet the fire in her eyes had already begun to burn as bright as the sun. Quickly following Junia's lead, the student exploded into a sprint, throwing herself at the obstacle course with what would seem like reckless abandon to the naked eye. Her heavy boots clung against the ground with each step she took, a bead of sweat running down her brow as her breath had slowly begun to get heavier.
Sliding into a crawl, the ashen haired femme matched Junia's speed as best she could. The plates covering her body were quite cumbersome, which effectively made Jasmine internally thank all the strength training she'd put herself through. Both of them reached the end at the same exact time, giving one another a swift glare before bolting off towards the next goal and leaving every other officer in the dust in the process. By now this seemed more like a fight between the two of them rather than a training exercise.
Junia had attempted to shove Jasmine out of the way on approach to the balancing beams, but this time she was ready. Having already fully determined the second in command's objective, the lass was on high alert and prepared whence the shoulder shove came barreling into her. Huffing, she quickly shifted her feet the moment she saw Junia's body jerk, halting her momentum for the briefest of moments. An indignant scoff left her, loud enough so the officer could hear, before Jasmine launched herself forward again at top speed quickly making sure to not drift too far behind as she leaped towards the balancing beams, making good use of all of her agility training.
By this point the wolf had started to feel winded. The heavy plates encasing her body ended up being no joke and she was starting to feel the burn in her legs. Regardless, she pushed onward with all of her might, refusing to let it slow her down as she begun climbing the rope ladder. Short breaths left her as she pulled herself up, using all four of her limbs to make sure she was utilizing her whole body. Junia was slightly ahead of her still and it was far too dangerous to try to keep a lead if she wanted to win this thing. The only chance she had was to try to overtake her and secure the win at the very last second...
Junia had managed to get a head start on Jaz. The younger lass growled in frustration before leaping forward, trying her damndest to keep up. The final platform was close. So damn close. She managed to catch up to her. All that was left...
Was a single rope and one hell of a drop.
Jasmine's eyes widened for the briefest of moments. She could win this. She was absolutely sure she could. But if she did...
The realization made her hesitate for the split second Junia needed to use. Another shove. Jasmine almost tripped up and ended up slowing her approach, idly watching as Junia leaped towards the rope and landed down gracefully. She glanced up at Jasmine and gave her this look. She knew the look. Junia was angry.
Probably because she knew exactly why Jasmine hesitated and it sure as shit wasn't because she was scared for her own well being if she got kicked off of the rope by Junia. No, it was the exact opposite.
It hadn't taken Jasmine long to re-engage her approach and make the jump. Hands on her knees, she was hunched over forward, breathing heavily. When the chief approached, she would force herself to straighten to attention, "...sir," she'd say, sounding a little dejected despite her best efforts of hiding it.

With the rest of the crew having moved ahead in the groups sent before Jasmine and Junia, the two girls were the last to finish, barring the 2 who lagged behind them in their group. The rest of the officers held their back’s straight, some clearly holding back lumps in their throats urging them to breathe more rapidly and heavily, but keeping up the act of being strong as the chief walked across the new line that had been created. Junia’s glare at Jasmine faded as the chief approached, holding her back straight, and in turn Jasmine may have followed suit, or kept on with the heavy breathing. The chief understood why the rest of the officers held themselves straight, he knew it was perhaps killing some of them to do so… but as much as he was a hardass, he could understand the need to breathe. Anyone could.
“Junia.” He spoke firmly, his eyes remaining on Jasmine however as he stood infront of her. Junia responded swiftly, hands tight behind her back, heels together as she lifted her chin up, eyes dead ahead.
“Sir!”
“Hit the showers.”
Color quickly drained from the older woman’s face, her stance remained firm, her eyes dead ahead, but simple things like the relaxed nature of her brow now or the lack of firmness in her expression, topped with the cherry of her slightly wavering tone it was clear that was a punch to the gut. “S-sir?”
“You heard me.” He turned his eye to her now and his expression held tight and firm. He wasn’t usually one to reprimand his officers through public humiliation, but if he was going to be questioned, he was going to answer. “We’re going to be running live drills today. I need my second in command to be treating every part of her team with respect. Not throwing them into the line of fire. You can’t handle someone on your squad? You have an issue. You come over to me and you tell me. You don’t pull what you just pulled. Showers.”
“… Yes sir.”
The rest of the squad had mixed reactions, some may have come to despise Jasmine more for what just happened, while others were clearly holding back a smile to the point Jasmine may have been able to tell one of them was biting the inside of his cheek to prevent it. The chief turned his eyes back to Jasmine, not moving the events of the day forward. He asked simply.
“Why did you hesitate officer?”

Jasmine would be lying if she said her muscles weren't feeling the after-effects of the drills she had just forced herself through. Despite having trained her body far past the point of even the most well-built specimen she could feel her own lack of stamina more clearly as the adrenaline coursing through her veins was starting to gradually fade. Her heavy armor clad torso heaved as she bent forward and supported herself with her hands on her knees, heavy breaths leaving her one after the other while she wiped the sweat off her brow. No wonder these officers were so highly touted among the general police workforce given the workload they had to go through on a daily basis. The drills themselves were hard enough, but having to go through them wearing gear that made Jasmine think she weighed at least eight times her normal weight made things exponentially more taxing.
Not to mention the fact that she had been actively competing against none other than the Chief's second in command and you have a recipe for exhaustion like no other.
Much alike the other officers, Jasmine did her best to straighten herself upon Kokai's arrival, not one to let herself lag behind the pack even if it were just for show. Even as she struggled to properly breathe and pace her heart rate the wolf stood straight and firm, sharp emeralds darting ahead into space.
Especially because she felt the chief's singular eye scrutinizing her.
Only now did she notice how uncomfortable it felt. His stern gaze momentarily made her feel utterly vulnerable.
"Sir," she greeted, as was customary, all while biting the feelings of unease down.
Jasmine couldn't say she had expected the next sequence of events that had transpired. Hell, some part of her thought the chief might have given her a hard time and not Junia despite her first impression of him being that he was fair. A hardass, that was for sure, but definitely fair. She had to strain herself from glancing Junia's way, a sliver of guilt flashing through her conscience despite the second in command's clear prejudice against the student. The mixed reactions from the rest of the force hadn't gone unnoticed either yet the wolf continued to keep up her stoic facade as best she could, finally settling into a proper breathing rhythm which ended up helping her body begin recuperating from the initial exhaustion and muscle burn quite a bit.
Kokai's next words broke through her front quite quickly, though. She couldn't tell you what her brain had registered first: the question, or the term he used to refer to her as. Officer. Jasmine couldn't tell whether she had made a good first impression with her showing or if the title was bestowed upon her just because the chief claimed he'd treat her like the rest of his officers from the get-go. Never one to have a big head or to get into the habit of getting full of herself from a perceived compliment the wolf just assumed it was the latter of the two options.
"Sir," she began, once again referring to the chief with the utmost respect she could despite not being one who enjoyed honorifics. "After assessing the situation on the move I believed there was a high chance of injury for either myself or officer Junia had we both jumped at the same time," especially given how she seemed to want me dead in the first place... Jasmine almost commented, but left that latter part of the argument to herself. "Given the risk various villains pose to society at any given moment I couldn't risk compromising the strength of this squad in the field over a training exercise."
Her words were quick, concise and to the point, but most importantly they were truthful. Yes, a part of her was indeed scared for Junia getting injured. That was always her first instinct. As much as she wanted to admit that particular fact, she kept it to herself. Despite the woman's clear distaste for her, Jasmine wasn't about to insult her further through a show of pity. That just wouldn't have sat right with her, especially since she wasn't one to ever be vindictive.
As far as concern for her own well-being went... she wasn't exactly worried about that, honestly.

Kokai’s singular eye narrowed as he listened to Jasmine’s explanation. It almost felt like he was reading the bracketed subtitles just an inch under her actual gaze, reading the true emotions plastered on her face about the matter. Anything she had the tact to hide from her words plain for him to see. That’s what it may feel like at least, but as she finished her explanation, a second passed, and his gaze seemed to ease with a deep, slow breath, rising in his chest before flowing from his nostrils, barely seeming to bristle his moustache.
Without losing Jasmine’s eye contact, he spoke to the rest of the group.
“Does anyone disagree with the new recruit’s assessment of the situation?”
Rather than perfect unison there was clearly some pause, but generally a resounding ‘No sir!’ was returned, the other officers just not having been expecting participation, and one down the line still clearly struggling to hold a straight face about the matter.
“Good. As well you shouldn’t. These are training exercises. Injuries are expected from time to time, frowned upon perhaps for a training exercise, but expected. To seek them out to achieve ‘victory’ over your team mates is unacceptable.” He finally broke Jasmine’s eyes and looked over the rest, walking along the line of soldiers. “In a live situation we don’t go for record times. We make sure the targets are retrieved, subdued, or eliminated accordingly, and we make damn sure we’re all alive to file the paperwork at the end of the day.” The one soldier who had been struggling to hold a straight face seemed to almost visibly shake at what seemed to be a joke to him, a brief glance from Kokai as he continued walking past them.
“Training is no different. We all get to the end of the course. Times are taken, perhaps you may compete, but we don’t hinder our fellow soldiers. Much like we do not discriminate between quirkers or non-quirker terrorists in the field, we do not discriminate between our own number.”
Turning about at the end of the line, he lifted his chin up. “Leo.”
The soldier who’d been struggling not to laugh stood upright, clearing his throat and the chuckles scared out of him. “Y-yes sir!”
“Since you seem to find the proceeding’s so funny, how about you run the recruit through the breaching plans for the next exercise. Rest of you? Set up for the other team.”
The officers nodded and split off into two distinct groups. One of which was two units shorter than the other due to Jasmine and Leo, or rather, Junia and Leo, initially being assigned to it. Kokai split off to watch over the groups as they set up, while Leo walked over to Jasmine, waiting for Kokai to be out of the current room before shooting Jasmine a wide ass grin.
“Ya know, I think he thinks this is a punishment but some of that equipment is damn heavy.” He chuckled behind his teeth before removing the helmet from his uniform, tucking it under his arm as he revealed a head of spikey red hair that almost had no right holding such volume after being cramped under that helmet, his hand offered out. “Leo. Don’t think I quite caught your name through all the shooting pains I was getting trying not to laugh.~”
