The attack on St Martas had long since begun. What was going to be a quiet day for the orphnage...perhaps not a pleasant one, but a quiet one to say the least, was suddenly met with... fire, and destruction. Before they knew it a group of villains, mixed with some recognizeable faces, some masked, some they'd never seen before and likely never would again, struck in unison, and before any of the staff or children could fully come to their senses it seemed their world had been engulfed in flame. Exits they could rely on, that they knew, engulfed by burning wood, or blocked by the onslaught of their once 'cared for' children seeking vengeance...
A member of the staff, a younger looking woman, cowered in the kitchen of the orphanage. From her perspective she'd simply been caring for the child she now clung to in her arms, brushing his hair quietly and calming, caring for them, loving them, holding them... and then a burst of flame shattered her world as a molotov burst through the window, not even allowed to reach the ground and burst as a shot of some... plasma like projectile burst it mid flight. She still remembered the sting of shattered glass against her arm, her sleeve soaked red.
It'd be fine though.... it'll be fine... heroes had to come right? N-no matter what this place did, no matter what she was... complicit in. They'd come right? They had to, IT WAS THERE JOB. "It'll be fine... it'll be fine..." She quietly repeated to herself as she supported the child in her arms, his eyes seeming dazed as he faced the wall over her shoulder. They'd be fine... the kitchen was the least flammable room in the whole place that she could reach... there'd be a hero soon... soon... soon...

He couldn't stay back when he smelled it. He swore that he smelled the fire from quite a few miles away if he wanted. The stench of the smoke and something else was everywhere, his nose felt irritated about it, it carried in the air but where was it coming from? As he had gone on a normal round, not directly going around the idea of trying to find some business to do as a vigilante (he was still trying, give him some time). But his instinct told him this time to go and see. Surely it was part curiosity and partly to see if he could do anything. It at least changed a little, it used to be just for his own interest and fire was definitely not something on his list he wanted to encounter. He dug his phone out of the pocket of his jeans and texted Teruko where he was. She asked him to be part of her group, she forgave him from his shitty state before so why not prove that. Maybe she knew more? When finishing his text about a fire at the outskirts and his location, she started to run a little faster. He would not change yet, in case Teruko would text him back. He wasn't sure if he should inform others, he knew a few more vigilantes after all, but no. He was going to first see if it was safe to be here and if he needed more backup, he could always text the chat.
Finally, the young man changed into his panther form. He would be able to run quite fast on his four legs and would come soon. He stalked the perimeter away from the immediate harm and danger. His curiosity now only asking more from him. There were quite a few people if he thought so himself, he couldn't really identify them now. This must be an attack and that meant he had to do something to stop it right? Wait a minute... He narrowed his eyes and his ears were now flat on the back of his head, he heard it, those were the distinct sounds of children crying and screaming. He had no ears or attention anymore for anything else, who cares what the adults said, the kids needed to be out of the fire. He did not want to be seen through so he walked around using the shadows at the edge of the perimeters to go around it, found another side with fewer people and slowly crawled/walked towards it. He found a door, hoping it wasn't locked and hoping that his lungs wouldn't be filled with the smoke, he stayed low to the ground. He looked around as he managed to force the door open with a few pushes of his shoulder, yay wood. His blue eyes scanning it, narrowing and trying to see whatever it was in this room. First, he saw nothing, then he saw a woman holding a child and remained quiet in his motion. No one was going to be happy to see a big black panther in your kitchen. However, he could speak as a human still and he tried to again use the shadows that were created by the fire to not be immediately seen, "Hello, anyone here? Are you hurt?" He decided to say.

An orphanage is being targeted, St. Marta's, innocent people would be in danger and may die...help them, save them. That's all they knew from their informant on this whole big ass dumpster fire! Like damn, what was the deal, did anyone know? It seemed weird for an orphanage to have a planned attack...even more weird that this informant didn't go to the pros. Sure, okay, he was a pro in training but man...this was giving him a whole lot of insight on why vigilantes and heroes needed to work together more.
[break][break]
Call it additional motivation, just meant he'd have to work his ass off! That the network of protecting people needed to have fewer holes in it, this proved it beyond reasonable doubt that it was going to be worth it. All of the struggles and things feeling like an uphill climb...it'd damn well be worth it. But damn, something stunk about all this and it wasn't just the fire, either....
[break][break]
This hit too close to something his past self would have done while paving a path of mangled corpses, so maybe it was just the disgust from that? Either way, there were people to save since whoever was behind this didn't bother evacuating...so what was this? A cry for attention or something more? With all the shit that's been going on and around, it was legit hard as hell to tell! Worse is that this was an organized effort to some extent or another, but the worst part is that they had to play the waiting game because it was a matter of when since they knew the where.
[break][break]
Who was behind it, that would get sorted later if he could since he was personally curious about why the fuck an orphanage? Adding this area to his patrol route was admittedly a pain in the ass...but he wasn't going to take his chances and make sure they could do something before it was too late. Plans don't always work out the way they're intended though and this was one of those adapt sort of plans! Catching a glimpse of the fire... "Fuck, I'm too late, son of a fucking bitch!" Quickly taking out his phone, he sent a message to Teruko that said...
[break][break]
SHIT'S ON FIRE HOLY FUCK!
[break][break]
Taking a picture before sending the message, he felt like if anyone happened across that message that wasn't on a need to know basis...it would look like a normal message. For the Queen Kaiju, though? Oh man, she was in the need to know crew who would definitely know what it was since it was Teruko who had passed this concern to him so he could be an extra set of eyes for her. It made sense, it was a logical move no matter how you looked at it, more coverage meant a higher success rate in rescue missions like these. Tucking his phone away, he activated his quirk to cause those fluoride infused flames to ignite into a vibrant blue hue and he quickly flew over to navigate his way through the actually burny painful fire.
[break][break]
Spawning forth teeth from his palms, they constructed what looked like a pair of large dinner plates which he waved the flames over each arm so that it would adhere to them. Along the way, he secured an escape route by manifesting teeth to help him move and push fire resistant objects to have a good enough makeshift tunnel which would have been a decent size for Teruko as well. "Come on kiddos, single file line if you can, yeah?" They were a similar height, so making it wide enough was the more important factor in all this. "Th-thank you mister!" came a small voice of a child who rushed by as far as their little legs would carry them.
[break][break]
Giving those few who skittered by a smile full of warmth, not all of them were calm...which was to be expected. The only place they could call home was burning away...they had every right to be scared and full of fear in this moment. That pseudo tunnel was made as he moved forward and he couldn't help but cough a bit here and there. It felt like a long time...but he heard a familiar voice and...something unfamiliar...a woman...? Faint and muffled were the feminine vocals...but the masculine one, he recognized. Deactivating his quirk and letting the teeth fall to the ground, he held one hand over his mouth and nose, squinting his visible golden eye as it surveyed the area.
[break][break]
"Sir Eyin, Hero in training here to help!" Those words were a little muffled, but he made his way through the smoke and fire to slowly approach the figure in the distance. "Please remain calm, we're here to rescue you and as many people as we can...okay?" Making certain that his tone was calm with a hint of urgency, he still did what he could to try to be a bit empathetic. He really wanted this to go better than the plan to arrive before this whole fiery mess! Holding up one hand slowly, his movements were careful and calculatedly calm...sometimes people go nuts when they feel threatened so this felt like the ideal body language to use.

guardian peril THERE WERE MURMURS OF THE FIRE taking place tonight throughout the underground—an orphanage that was rotten from the inside—a place hardly worth calling a “home” at all. Teruko was already at the outskirts, halfway between two prominent orphanages, waiting, listening. In an ideal world, the police and firefighters would squelch it out, the pro’s if necessary. But... if such a corrupt seat already existed in a place meant to care for the cast-aside... Teruko had her doubts. She was nursing a sake-- more out of habit than out of an inclination to get drunk-- when a text from Akiva lit-up the woman’s phone. No way… Teruko’s hands flitted over the keyboard, using the tips of each of her claws to type the following message.
「 I’ll be there as soon as I can. 」
These things always seemed to happen while she was out—if anything, this perhaps advocated for Teruko’s adoption of a hermit’s lifestyle. She pressed [SEND], pocketed her phone, and took-off running.
The phone buzzed in her back pocket, minutes later, with a message from Enda—but in her approach, the Kaiju didn’t feel it buzz. She charged down the street, and didn’t stop running until she approached the edge of the orphanage’s property, huffing and puffing from the jog.
Teruko was built for strength, not speed. Hooohhh geez.
The kaiju dropped the bag from her shoulders, a knitted thing filled with first-aid supplies, and pulled the drawstring. She removed her phone, briefly glimpsing the message from Enda—good, he was here too—and quickly sent him a message, as well—
「 Here. 」
--before dropping her phone into the bag. The kaiju took a hold of the fence along the edge of the property, bending the one supporting beam across the top with her hands so that she could step through, before proceeding.
It hardly felt real, the roiling orange flames that consumed the structure before her. Had Teruko anymore wherewithal, she might have run to approach, but… she walked, evaluating the best point of entrance. Bag still open, she procured a scarf—usually used as shawls by average-sized women—and wrapped it around her muzzle before tying it behind her head. Smoke inhalation was bad, even if the rest of you was durable.
She grabbed another scarf and wrapped it around her right hand. Then, Teruko cinched the bag shut and slung it back over her shoulder. And with that… she went-in, vaguely in the vicinity of where Enda had entered, but slightly different. She started checking closed doors, jostling handles and yelling over the roar of flames.
“Hello!? Anyone in there?!” Teruko called, “It’s… Kamirex! Hello?!”
Her vigilante name probably meant nothing, so… Teruko went for something more… publicly recognizable.
If the doors were unlocked (and handles cool to the touch), Teruko would open them. If they were locked and cool, she’d ram her shoulder against the door in an attempt to open said door. But if it was hot… she’d move to the next door and try that one, instead.
“Eyin!” she yelled, “Beast!”
Assuming no voice cut through the chaos back towards her, she’d resume her previous script.
“Helloooo! Anyone out there!? I’m here to help you escape!”
It was impossibly hot, and the smoke stung her eyes, but she hadn’t seen any earnest flames yet.

Flying full speed to the scene Lyra didn't even have time to put on her hero costume. She had been enjoying a break from schoolwork and decided to put on the news in her apartment. Almost immediately she was brought to a local channel for an emergency broadcast in which she almost spit out her food due to the shock. Burning an orphanage? Who would do that! [break][break]
She immediately put down her food and sped off to the scene. Upon reaching the inferno she could see several people being evacuated and...people going inside? Was that Akiva? she thought her eyes were pulling tricks on her as she could have sworn she saw a panther with blue hair go into the building. It was then she noticed a much larger form going into the building which was none other than Teruko! Couldn't mistake that Kaiju for anything else really![break][break]
Swiftly Lyra descended to where she had seen her fellow vigilantes go inside and decided that in her case it would be better to release all the heat inside her so she could possibly help the rest of them out by absorbing the flames and heat. After all, if there were children inside they would need someone to guide them out. So once she had expended all of her energy she pushed her way inside "Hello? Can anyone here me?" she called out and if someone answered she would get to them one way or another.

The sound of paws stalking along the tiled floor did little to put the woman at ease, holding the child closer to her chest and squirming in place as she felt a chill run down her spine. Criminals had made there way into this place afterall and it was impossible to tell without the help of a recognizeable face who was good and who was bad, so the idea of an animal stalking through the room wasn't doing too much to put her at ease. As they called out to hear if anyone was in the room, she had a gamble to take. She could give herself away and potentially be saved... or killed... she held closer to the child, rising slowly to her feet. She'd seen that the villains weren't killing the children so... well you used what you had to survive in this place...
"H-hello?" She called out, unable to see the creature hidden in the shadows, her voice cracking and shaky, unable to get a good handle on herself, constantly sounding like she was on the verge of tears. She'd endured this place for so long surely it wouldn't end like this of all ways. "I-I have one of the kids with me... w-we got trapped by the fire... a-are you here to help...?"
A new figure arrived, announcing themself to be a hero in training, the woman ecstatic at this news, nearly stumbling as she rushed closer, quickly supporting the back of the child's head as she made sure they didn't fall, their eyes dazed as they looked off to the side even as a hero supposedly arrived. "T-thank heavens! I-I've been too scared of running into one of those criminals to move... d-do you know a safe way out?"
Out in the halls with Kamirex and Lyra, the more lizard like of the two continued to call out for those who needed aid. A beacon to those she could help... and to those who very much didn't want her to succeed. A doorknob she came to would feel not cool... but chilled to the touch, a sensation that would likely bring at least some pause of confusion before a burst of ice shot out through the wood of the doorframe, layers of blue crystals lining the doorframe before, almost unnaturally quickly, reverting to a flame coated surface. A figure in a black cloak adjusted his gloves as he stepped out through the open space. "Sorry 'Kamirex'. No filming on set today..." He chuckled softly recognizing that name and the godzilla figure he came to face with. If she tried to advance on him, he'd reach out and snap his fingers, the charcoal wood panels at her feet suddenly coated in ice, locking her in place. Beyond him, she'd be able to see several kids huddled in the back of the room, quiet, quivering, surrounded by ice.
"We're not really looking for your help today so if you'd just..."
He threw a swipe of his arm from right to left, the flames on the right side of the corridor flickering, replaced suddenly by torrents of ice that burst through the hallway, striking Teruko's right side and sending her crashing down to the left end of the hallway. The ice faded unnaturally quick again, wherever it was replaced by flame clinging to the walls. "Move along?"

He was a beast, an animal, he needed to be secure. Surely his claws were heard on the titles, he was ready to pounce but also ready to be heard to not scare anyone. Akiva had zero ideas about how this orphanage worked and thus he wanted to be there, he could shift to his stealthy mode if necessary, putting his paws down much softer and hiding more in the shadows. He did the latter mostly so no one would freak out from a freaking panther in your kitchen. He just focused on his question, to ask if someone was hurt. That would show some care right? That's how he would tackle it. He had to be slowly though, he had to focus on what he was doing, he did not know the area, but kitchens must not have strange wears in them so he probably safer here than in the living room. He wasn't sure what to do anymore as he heard the woman stutter to him and he just tried to think of something. "Don't be afraid, I know that's strange to say, but I am Beastbane and I am here to help." He did slowly move out of the shadows but taking his distance and his time so she could get to the idea.
That's when Enda came in and he rolled his eyes as she quickly went to him. Hero in training, bah, liar. Again not knowing anything. The heat singed his fur or that's how it felt, he could adapt to it quite a lot, it was probably a panther thing being a jungle animal but seriously it was getting hot here. "I came from the backdoor, there was nothing there, let's go here." He said, indicating for the woman and Enda to follow him or maybe just her, Enda could try with his hero-in-training speech to save the kids. He hunched down when he heard something loud crashing and his blue eyes quickly looked at Enda. Right, getting this woman and child out and then go back in to see whatever that was? He wasn't convinced but he wasn't going to stay here and wait. "Madam, please, for your safety and the child, come with me. I am his friend, Eyin, tell her." A panther or a hero in training, surely she preferred the last but Enda had to convince her she could follow him, he would lead her out. He was also glad to say he spurted out the right name instead of Enda's real one, at least it looked alike.

This was one of those legendary moments where he would have given himself a pat on the back, tell himself that this is a job well done and more importantly...he might be able to save this woman and her child. Though, based on how she waited for his voice to say anything, this was a little flag of she doesn't trust the Akicat. They'd need to work together so that they could all get out of here...that meant yes, getting this woman to trust his ex-boyfriend who was very much a valued friend. Even if the guy was pissed with him, still, he had a damn good heart and proved to change for the better. Hell, he was even managing to keep a hold of himself as his panther form!
[break][break]
Good job, Akicat! Enda was so proud of his strides! "Yes, absolutely, hun...Beastbane is telling the truth, we're friends. He and I go a long way's back, in fact he was actually scouting the area for me. As for a way out, the route I took was a little risky, so we're going to follow Beast's lead and take the backdoor, okay?" Closing the distance between himself and the woman, he spoke with the utmost sincerity and offered a smile. "Please don't be alarmed, I'm going to activate my quirk and make some constructs to protect us on the way out, I had to secure some debris in place on my way here, so I don't wanna take any chances." With those words, he activated his quirk as the indigo fluoride flames engulfed his hands and visible eye. First, he sent out teeth toward Akiva as a means of showing that they were on the same side, constructing a set of durable set armor on his chest, back and head. Wiggling his fingers a bit, he figured out how to make it juuuust right by following the feeling tingling through his nerves from the teeth.
[break][break]
Good, next he fixated his gaze upon the woman and child to work on their protection next, something simple and quick. Gauging the size and shape of their heads, teeth rapidly began to manifest and assemble a pair of durable helmets. As long as they would allow him to do so, he would place the helmets calmly upon their heads and do some adjustments so it would be a snug, comfortable fit. The smile he shared with them was one of hope and compassion, regardless of if they took the helmets or not, that's because no matter what, he was going to do his best. Plus...at least he wasn't alone...he had his friend Akiva here to support this rescue effort.
[break][break]
"Alright, please follow Beastbane's lead, I'll be right behind you guys to make sure if any of those criminals come around, I can hold em' off." As long as everyone would move along, he'd fly after them and keep an eye out as best as he could! Hopefully Teruko was alright...once he got this lady and kid out, he'd have to check his phone and see if she managed to make it here.

guardian peril MOST OF THE DOORKNOBS WERE room-temperature, and revealed empty rooms within. But when Teruko tried a cold doorknob, she froze, arching her massive brow. Not just cold, but… icy. Teruko grasped for the handle, ready to open the door, but was forced back when the door was pushed open by ice.
Said the dark, hooded figure with a room full of frightened— or, at least, cold— kids.
“Oh sweetie, didn’t you hear? I retired…” Teruko said sweetly, her gaze flicking from the kids to the hooded figure. The spines along her back hummed, her eyes flickering to life. Anyone who refused help during an active structure-fire couldn’t be good news. She needed to take this guy down and get the kids, pronto.
Squeezing through the doorway would only make her susceptible to attack, as it was a standard-sized doorway and she was… well, bigger than that. So Teruko just bowed her head as if to yield to the hooded figure, starting to back-up. Over the din, you couldn’t hear the hum of the spines along her back, of some internal workings powering-up.
But if one looked close enough, they could see the glow along her spines and in her eyes glowing brighter, and now it was seeping into her mouth, too, and through her teeth.
There was movement to the right—flames to ice, and rushing towards her. Teruko stumbled through the doorway, shoulder-checking the doorframe on the way in. Better than getting bludgeoned by an ice-wall, though. Assuming that the charcoal-turned-ice trap was still present, Teruko would be stuck in-place. But at least she’d avoided the blow from the ice-wall outside.
Fire turned to ice… that was… oddly practical, if he really could turn flames to ice. But the fact that these kids were still inside was definitely concerning.
Well, time to test the fire-to-ice theory. Teruko sighed, smoke roiling from her maw.
“Darling, I mean this in the best way possible,” she spoke coolly, “But-“
She didn’t finish her sentence. She opened her maw and hurled fire directly at the hooded figure. Sure, he had ice, but she had fire—and the building was already ablaze anyways, so what concern was collateral? As long as she didn’t hit the kids.
Teruko breathed short burst of flames, then threw all of her strength into breaking free of the ice. Rescue the kids first, ask questions later.
“Get fucked,” she growled, finally finishing her sentence. If she could get free, she would step forward and aim a massive right hook at the guy’s head, intending to knock him unconscious. But if not, she would breathe another burst of fire, first at her own feet, then at him, to free herself and attempt to deal another blow.
Teruko steadied her breathing, taking a moment to address the kids. Her gaze sought-out the least terrified looking one before directing them (or, at least, trying to).
“Hey, kid! Yeah, you! You know the way out, don’t you?” she insisted, “Get out while Auntie Rexy deals with him. I’ll join you when I’m done.”
| ft. enda, akiva, lyra + st!yumi quirk: e-rank durability, strength, range; f-rank wealth, culinary arts tl,dr: teruko thinks the hooded figure is sus (with good reason) and narrowly avoids their ice-wall-thing by stumbling through the door, potentially falling prey to the ice-trap on the floor. she thinks they might have the ability to turn fire-to-ice, and tests this theory by breathing to fire-blasts their direction. she also tries to punch them. b/c fuck that guy. at the very end she urges the kids to run if they're able. |

Being the last one of the group to arrive Lyra was in a hurry. She only knew the capabilities of one of the people there that being Akiva and knew that he wasn't particularly suited to deal with the fire. It had to be her! She could not only get the children out by flying them, but also absorb any flame or heatwave that came at them.[break][break]
She flew swiftly down the hallway trying to keep an eye out for any children while also making sure to follow the path that Teruko most likely took. Even with the raging fire, it wasn't too hard to follow given how big Teruko was and Lyra was just worried about whether she would be okay in this heat. She was unaware of Teruko's resilience to heat and felt as though if she caught up and stayed close she cou-...wait who's that? [break][break]
Being lost in her thoughts she hadn't realized initially she reached her destination until she saw the cloaked figure standing in between Teruko and the kids. With a motion, he turned the flames around them into ice which Lyra thought of as a good sign until she got closer and could hear him speak. She felt anger well up inside as she pushed forward, unafraid of the flames, to challenge him by saying "And who do you think you are to stop us! We're getting those kids out of here and if you don't let us then..." she held one hand out towards a patch of flame on the wall as it twisted and began to flow through Lyra's palm and her red hair became more vibrant. She used her other free hand to reach into her pocket and draw her collapsible spear and took a battle position "I'll be your opponent!" if his quirk worked exactly how it looked there was no way Lyra would lose. She could melt the ice and absorb the flames!

"Geeze... and I thought the heroes were slow."
Even with Kamirex's sharp interuption of her own words, the cloaked figure simply rose a hand up towards the burst of flame heading towards his face. It seemed to take a strain on him, like a physical force was pushing him back, but the flames seemed to linger in the air in their new physical state, curling and shifting as fire would but solidified in an icey state. If it hadn't been such a short burst the spread of ice may have flowed back down Kamirex's throat and choked her but alas, the freezing just gave him enough time to duck to the side, the ice melted, returning to flame and it burst back past him, still seeming to carry the momentum it had a moment ago. He backed up into the room all the same, quick on his feet, trying to avoid Kamirex's assaults as she called out to the kids. A timid child oddly seemed to be the first to move, shivering as he pulled up from the group, another kid quickly pulled him back.
"You heard the lady!" He threw an arm in their direction, a flicker of charred would condensing into ice, spreading harshly, creating more physical mass than should occupy that space and shattering the wall in the process, creating a hole big enough for the children to move through. On the other side fire seemed to clearly be turning to ice too. "Move!" He yelled harshly and without patience for them, if any of them took their time, icy shards would begin to spread from the opposing side of the new hole, forcing them to crawl through it unless they wanted to be skewered.
"Sorry lady but I got a job here and I ain't gonna let some dipshit vigilante trying to be hero mess with my pay day."
He thought to attack, but a better opportunity presented itself. The rex lady's back up was a perfect target. Drawing flame towards their own hand he reached out, gesturing past Kamirex and to the new girl on the scene. The flames she tried to absorb would rapidly turn to sharp ice. If she didn't realize fast enough, her efforts to absorb them would lead to a sharp point of ice skewering her palm.
"W-well... I'm deeply appreciative..." She was still clearly scared of the two vigilantes but she did her best to keep her breaths calm. At the offer of helmets she took a hard swallow and backed away at the... toothy coverings. She knew they'd be a benefit to their protected nature but... w-well...
"O-okay just.. let me put his on." She'd hold the child close as she was helped into her toothy helmet, shivering the whole time, absolutely disgusted by the grotesque nature of the protective covering, clinging to the child like a safety blanket of some sort. When given his helmet, she'd carefully adjust the child, his eyes were open, he wasn't asleep, but they were very much glazed over, like he wasn't entirely there... given this place's history of traumatizing kids however it wasn't the most surprising. "Y-you know a way out?"

Yea... sending pure white teeth to him as armour was definitely going to help his stealth. But he said nothing, it was a nice gesture, it was a sign they worked together and trusted each other. But fine, it was this way and with the flames it was hard to hide and walk around anyway. He waited patiently, parking his but on the wooden floor and wondering how long this room would stay well like this. He shouldn't have asked that question really as he felt it, his fur shaking a little as if some fly was walking on it. He noticed it was getting warmer and he moved a little away from where he sat. His eyes were trying to find the things in the room that were not yet ablaze, it was coming their way and where was it coming from. He quickly ducked into the hall he had used before to see that the backdoor was in a state of fire. He couldn't ask the woman and the kid to go through here and he hurried back to their side, now they were using a helmet that Enda made with teeth again. How to scare off your innocent in five seconds; done.
"The door is blocked, we have to move around, where you came from." He looked and Eyin and looked at the woman and the child. The child looked dazed, not seeing or doing anything and it freaked the panther out heavily. How could you not react in a fire, or when seeing teeth or a talking panther? He looked at the woman, what the hell was going on here? "I will go first." Because he was stealthy and made no noise when walking, even when black and white he could probably hide in this fire still. He would indicate with his tail that he would go that way and hoped the woman would follow with Enda behind them. Right, let's go, get out of here as fast as they could. Maybe they would bump into more kids. Screw it, he had to go, why did he not check the door, find water, cover it, anything would have been more useful than waiting for the woman to trust him and sit on his ass doing nothing. He hated himself for it, but he still tried to convince himself he had to learn. His internal monologue stopped when he spotted something familiar. So Teruko had arrived after he texted her, it was good to see her, someone he could- oh... oh hello.
When Teruko moved, he spotted her and his brain went complete mush. Lyra, look at her so pretty, so heroic. "L-L-L.." No wait, don't say her name, it might bring her into trouble, "Hi." Guys, mom, Lyra, cutie okay focus! Wait he needed their attention but not the criminal he turned to look back, "Hide." he hissed, maybe Enda could stay with her but he needed to make sure they find a way out. Who was this guy?

Jesus Christ on a crutch during Sunday mass...his quirk was a freaking macabre nightmare on a pair of stilts, wasn't it?!
[break][break]
"You're welcome, hun." Keeping his tone friendly to match his composure, he couldn't help but be a little concerned when looking at the child...their eyes were glazed over. Looking from the child to the woman, he furrowed his brows a bit and wasn't sure if there would be red flags flailing around and about over asking about it during all this chaos. "Erm...sorry, I know my quirk's a little weird, but it's super durable." At least his plan was working out, make sure they trust them both.
[break][break]
Otherwise, it was going to be an uphill climb and they didn't need that during a rescue mission! In fact, he couldn't tell whether or not Akicat over here was happy about getting his own armor, but he definitely wasn't fussing or anything like that. Soooo safe to say he probably got the hint and caught on to what he was trying to do for a mutual benefit in this thing called team work makes the dream work? Thank goodness Akicat wasn't bitter or mad at him...or at least enough to remain civil. The important thing is that the panther seemed to know that this Tooth Fairy was reliable and wasn't going to throw him or any of them under the bus.
[break][break]
As soon as they went on their route to get the heck outta dodge, the man with a floating top hat and a quirk that manifested teeth looked a little concerned about the door. "What? Seriously?! Then again...this place is falling apart, okay so like I came from that way, Beasty~" Gesturing over toward the way he actually made a tunnel out of fire resistant debris so it would work as an exit. Admittedly, he was a little concerned about how long it was going to hold up for since even he knew there was a chance it wouldn't last forever.
[break][break]
The tunnel was built up pretty damn well, still...he wasn't about to get cocky over his own ability when people other than himself were at risk. Especially since even he knew the structural integrity of anything in a fire was like a ticking time bomb. As they changed their course, along the way he manifested a ball of teeth into the shape of a hand so that it was easier to either grab something, or change its form to span out and protect the pair they were escorting outta here.
[break][break]
So far so good...
[break][break]
...up until he saw his partner in this rescue operation stammer and start getting all pudding puddle brain! Grumbling under his breath, he knew damn well those ears could pick up on his words, "Oi! Beasty! Focus!" About to use the hand made of teeth to tap his buddy, he froze at the sight of Teruko, some other chick, kids and a cloaked dude....who was deeeeeefinitely not on their side among the smoke and flames in a room. OH BOY...! OH SHIT TERUKO WAS IN DANGER...BUT SO WERE KIDS! Aaaaahhhh fuck! Okay shit shit shit, as much as he wanted to roll in there and go ham, he knew that Teruko was a wise lady and wasn't going to get pissed at him for prioritizing civilian rescue, right?
[break][break]
From what he knew about her, she was a maternal sort who understood the importance of protecting those who can't hold their own...
[break][break]
...he'd have to come back for her, he'd have to trust that all her years of experience would be paying off right now and she'd be okay.
[break][break]
When Akicat gave him the cue to hide, he pointed the hand made of teeth toward a large piece of debris and motioned his fingers as though he was grabbing something. Quickly, the macabre hand of teeth held it up, and Enda himself got in front of the woman and child just in case he needed to be a living shield for the two, crouching down a bit to keep himself hidden. A little silent prayer of oh please, whatever entity wants to hear my bitching today, please don't let Aki do something stupid! Because oh boy...he recognized that adorable little stammer...his ex had a crush and ughhhh as cute as that was, he really hoped it wouldn't cloud his judgement!
[break][break]
Whispering softly under his breath, he spoke to the woman. "Does a suspicious looking guy in a black coat ring any bells, hun?" Maybe she knew about him...hell...maybe they could get the upper hand in dealing with him if she knew something they didn't. After all...it could be the reason why she was hiding...

guardian peril TERUKO HUFFED, HER SHOULDERS STILL SQUARED. It was as she’d expected, he could convert her fiery breath into ice… well, there went her primary form of attack. As long as she didn’t breathe flames in the direction of the hooded man, it would be fine.
Then, someone else showed-up behind her. A familiar voice. Teruko glimpsed back briefly—Akiva’s friend. Teruko remembered her from the showdown at the StormKnight’s base. The reptilian woman nodded, briefly, then squinted back the hooded figure.
As she pondered her next attack, the hooded figure opened a hole in the wall, and urged the kids to go through it.
“Not that way!”
Not where she couldn’t follow, damn it. It might not have been safe. Everything around the woman was just noise, honestly-- the hooded sack of shit insisting that Teruko was slow, Lyra insisting that she would fight the hooded figure, who was insisting that he had a job to do. It was all just noise.
“Works for me!” Teruko said brightly, half-listening. The kids were her priority anyways, not him. She tromped towards the wall where the whole was nearly closed, dusting-off her arms.
Teruko had begun her assault on the wall about the time that the others crossed their path—and she was so fixated on helping the kids, she had scarcely noticed the arrival of more vigilantes on the scene.
“Get away from the wall!” she bellowed, cupping a hand to her mouth. Hopefully they heard her. Hopefully they listened. Hopefully, they had enough wherewithal to move. If not, though—the sudden rain of wall-crap lightly pelting their little heads would be encouragement aplenty.
A human could punch a hole in the wall, unassisted by a quirk—but with strength like Teruko’s, opening a hole big enough for herself was a like tearing through paper. After a brief, concentrated assault, Teruko had opened a hole big enough for herself, entering into the second room that the children had slipped into.
Just like that, Queen Kaiju slipped out of sight, into the din of the next room. The glow of her spines still might be visible from beyond the room where Lyra and the hooded figure were about to face-off, though—and they cast the new room into a pale glow.
“Shh, shh, it’s okay,” Teruko assured the kids, “I just didn’t want to get left behind, and the hole was too small for me.”
Gosh, they were so tiny, and so scared. The poor things. Being bossed around by a literal dinosaur woman probably wasn’t the most reassuring, either.
“We… we need to go outside,” she said gently, “It isn’t safe to stay in here. Understand?”
Her eyes swung wildly around the smoldering room, searching for an “out”. If there was a door, she’d squeeze past the kids to test the knob for “hotness” or “coldness”, before stepping through. If there was a window, however—Teruko would hastily go towards the window, and try to open it. Why waste your time traversing smoldering halls, when a window would take them right outside? Sure, Teruko would still be trapped inside (as if there’d be a window big enough for her to climb through, too) but at least the kids would be safe.
Regardless of whether she went for a door or a window, Teruko’s conversation with the children would be the same, “Can someone tell Auntie Rexy a secret? Do you know that man in the hood…? And is he a good guy, or a bad guy…?”
Her luminous, blue gaze would sweep over the gaggle of kids, seeking a weak-willed one. In the previous room, one of the mousier-looking children had reacted to her, first—there they were—maybe they would be the easiest to get information from.
“My friends and I are kind-of like heroes… we’re the good guys,” Teruko explained to them, “And so we’re supposed to fight bad guys, right? So it’s a very important thing to know, so that we don’t fight a fellow good guy.”
All this would be said while Teruko led them towards either a window or a door.

She was really angry.[break][break]
Lyra wasn't exactly the type to let things like this get in her head, but even not being able to see the hooded man's face just really pissed her off. Hearing that this seemed to be some sort of job for him just furthered her anger as heat radiated from her body in response. She hadn't ever really gotten this mad before and especially not in a situation where she was using her quirk to it's fullest. Teruko taking her declaration seriously was probably for the best as it was about to get a lot hotter in here than before.[break][break]
She was so focused on her opponent that she didn't even notice Akiva or Enda making their way to where she and Teruko were, but instead was grilling the masked man without worrying about anything else. She knew Teruko from the Storm Knights HQ and knew she was capable so leaving her to deal with the children wasn't an issue. As a result of this extra focus, she was able to use her own quirk to melt the fire that was turned to ice before it reached her as it splashed on the ground near her. Seemed like he was much more comfortable at a range and she was going to use that to her advantage![break][break]
As her hands gripped her spear tighter it began to glow red as she poured energy into it making it as hot as possible. With a kick off her right foot, she dashed in a straight line towards the hooded figure, unafraid of the flames, and threw her spear at him aiming to pierce one of his arms. As she continued on this path she gathered heat energy in her left hand as she would attempt to strike him, but even if that wasn't enough she had one more trick up her sleeve. She was hoping that even if he managed to dodge her spear he wouldn't be aware of her heliokinesis which would allow her to remotely control the spear and bring it back to get a second chance at a hit.
