feel the light shining in the dark of the night | Toma straightened his white dress shirt and smoothed out his slacks. as he prepared himself to step into class. He had been in the faculty bathroom for four minutes as he waited on the most nervewracking moment of his life. He had never been as nervous about anything in his life, and he had faced down hardened murderers.
'You can do this.' He murmured to himself and stared ahead into the mirror with a serious look in his eyes. 'You are a Hero. You can do this teaching gig.' He took one last moment to make sure his pockets weren't sticking out of his pants and stepped down out into the hall.
His classroom was empty. He was still 10 minutes early, and he planned to be that early every day from this point forward. He kinda had to be since he ended his shift patrolling to come to classes. He always operated at night and he wouldn't stop doing that just because he had to teach a class. He knew he needed to be careful in the future though, he couldn't make the same risks with this kind of responsibility.
He decided to go ahead and write his name on the board along with his Hero name. Mr. Junji / Vega written out in clean kanji. He knew that most of these students had never heard of them, and some of them were probably intimidated. He hoped he wouldn't come across as a tough teacher, but he also wasn't going to tolerate misconduct.

First day of class. Katou was excited. Scared. Nauseous. Giddy. A multitude of emotions that can’t easily be measured by simple words or sentences and he felt like his capabilities to do so was lacking. Katou woke up early, sick with excitement and fear when he started his march towards class. The early morning crowds were intimidating and frankly nerve wreaking. But he somehow kept himself calmed enough to make it to class. 1-S. The support studies class. This was Katou’s first time in formal schooling, so he wasn’t sure how to talk or act. All he knew was how to look.
Katou made sure his customized uniform was on properly, his tie was an absolute mess but he didn’t have his dad to help, and he lacked the proper footwear due to his quirk making his feet all weird compared to others. But at least his pants fit his tail okay and want too uncomfortable. Sand his shirt was good as well. Katou made sure his hair was as nicely pulled back and away from his face. Katou with one final sigh entered the classroom with a heavy sigh. Despite his current confidence, Katou still looked shy and timid, with his head lowered and looking to the ground, his shoulders high, as if trying to keep himself as small as possible. As if the teacher will not notice the 6’9” student with the nearly 9 foot long tail.
Katou raised a head up a bit to look up at the Sensei and at his name on the blackboard. Mr. Junji. He looked scary. But everybody looked scary so by that metric he looked normal to Katou. In a small and much softer voice than his face would imply, Katou said, ”Greetings … Junji-Sensei… I am Katou Minami…” With a bow Katou looked at the many seats in the class. He didn’t know where to sit. Until he saw the chair that was different from the rest, to accommodate for his tail. It seems like Kumoko-senpai kept her promise. A small grew on his face as he took a seat---it was so comfy. Katou never felt such comfort he risks melting into his seat.

Niji walked through the halls of UA High to get to her new class. The first day of school had officially begun and she was eager to meet her new teacher. When she first signed up for classes, she was thinking about joining the infamous A classes due to her quirk's abilities. Until she got to thinking. She wanted to build tech and help other students who needed them. Sure her quirk was probably combat based, but her talents screamed "Support!" as plain as day. Niji couldn't pass up the opportunity. It was what her father use to do for people, so she wanted to follow in his footsteps.
As she entered the classroom, she was surprised to see that there weren't many students here yet. So far the only people she saw was a man with brown, curly fuzzy hair and boy who looked to be half-human, half-scorpion with long, neat blue hair. They were both very tall, which Niji didn't mind in the least. The brown-haired one looked very intimidating, but she felt like there was a reason for it. Being a Support hero was serious business and relied on how efficiently people worked in the Rescue and Tech field. People depended on them, hero and no-quirker alike, to be on their A-game to provide the best support possible.
The boy seem to be very nervous and maybe even skittish. Niji assumed that this was due to being shy around new people and hoped that once everyone got to know each other, the boy would start to feel more relaxed. She smoothed out the wrinkles in her uniform as she walked into the classroom and looked at the chalkboard. Mr. Junji/Vega? Interesting name. She went up to the teacher's desk and took a small bow. Her giant rainbow hair bow seem to stay in place in her creme colored hair as she did so. "Hello, Junji-sensei," Niji greeted with a smile. "I am Niji Uta. I am really happy to be here." She looked around for a seat and was able to find next to the boy, and with a smile said, "Hello."

Jin woke up late as usual as he was working on some new pieces he drafted up the other day. He got dressed, brushed his teeth, had his nutrients, grabbed his bag and then rode his long board to campus. He of course is tired and he needs to fix this on the grounds that he will be held back yet again if he continues to oversleep and be tardy. His skills were suited for the support work and fighting ain't exactly his style in the grand scheme of things. He enjoyed helping people but most of his energy goes towards his creations he takes a lot of pride in. His music was blaring and his mind was scattered as he rode through the halls without a care in the world.
Night before was sort of a mess as always. Wiring is the usual, the ever so present issue of careful work being slow as molasses, and the rule of no weapons development in the dorms. He had no issue as he was mostly working on drones and other gadgets in the meantime but that meant less time to test them properly. But he will learn to fix his sleep schedule and social skills so it’d make this work a lot less tedious than it needs to be. Or least be able to talk more than usual.
Besides the case, he walked down the familiar halls he had grown accustomed to. Counting down the various room numbers until he found his home. He got off his board and picked it up as he entered the classroom. Noticing immediately that he is the last one there and that teacher is already at the front. His classmates this time around is a blue haired boy with scorpion-like features and a girl with blondish hair. Walking in with his messy green hair, hastily put on uniform with coat draped over his shoulders, backpack filled with stuff and a long board in hand. He walked in and did a rather lax bow and then clearly stated his name. Mostly because he really doesn't want to say it again for the sake of saving energy.
“Morning,Junji-sensei”, he opened up as he tried to muster the energy to wake up.” Jin Nakamura, let's get some work done..”, is what he followed into as he took a seat near the window and set down all of his stuff. Turning off his music and adjusting his headphones so he can hear everyone. He’d look to the direction of the other two students and wave at them as a nonverbal greeting.

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | Toma let the three students filter into the class and sit down at their desks. He made sure the three of them were already seated and comfortable before he began. He made sure to look at the latecomer to begin his first address to the class.
"Welcome everyone to your first year here at U.A." He walked back ut to the board and began erasing his name, with his back to the class for a moment before turning to speak again. "I highly suggest you make the best of your time here, that includes making sure you are on time for class Mr. Nakamura."
"Before we begin any sort of classes I would like to spend some time getting to know one another." He dusted off the last of the chalk and turned to lean his back against the clean board. "To be honest this will probably take most of this period so you get a freebie for your first day."
"I guess I should introduce myself first." He loosened his collar a little and relaxed. He wasn't some tight suited drill instructor and he needed to remember that. "As you know now my name is Vega. While I am not a support Hero myself I do use a complex support Item in the field to supplement my quirk so I have an in-depth understanding of what Heroes will need in the field."
"We will move on to Quirk demonstration here shortly, but to begin with I would like you all to stand up introduce yourself to the class and tell me why you want to be a Hero." He pointed straight at the strangest of his new students with his right hand. "Mr. Minami since you were the earliest to class you can go first"

Katou was so absorbed in the comfort of his chair, that he almost didn't notice the girl entering after him and sat so close to him that it made him feel uncomfortable, but he didn't object. Katou sat up more properly as he placed his claws on his lap, and with a meek expression look down his lap, as he fidgets with his clawed fingers, as he softly said, "H-hello...Uta-san..." Katou said as it took him a moment to remember how she introduced herself to the teacher. He still wasn't looking at her or anybody else but down at his fidgeting claws. Katou was so focused on his claws that he didn't notice Nakamura-san waving at him. Katou heard his name, but his head has been down since he entered. Katou knew what Jin sounded like, but not how he looked since his head was still lowered.
Katou listened to Junji-sensei's speech with as much intensity as one with a lowered head could muster. Katou could hear him erasing his name off the board, move around in the front of the class, and he said he wasn't a support hero himself but understood more than most, and then it moved onto a scary idea of quirk demonstrations which he dreaded, as he glances more away from the Sensei in shame that his quirk cause. The last bit about introductions almost went from one ear to the other until Katou heard his name at the very end. Which caused him to stand up so fast that his chair which had a hole for his tail got stuck and was raised off the ground with him if it wasn't for his carapace on his legs when it struck the back of his knees probably sent him crumbling to the ground, but instead there was a loud thud of metal hitting a hard surface as Katou frantically introduced himself.
"Um-Uh-ah-oh-gah-I-K-Katou-Minami..." Katou struggled through the first part of his introduction, and he took in a deep as he peeled the chair off his tail to set it back to the ground and this time he spoke more properly. "Um-I mean I am Katou Minami... I want to be a hero because..." Katou stopped midsentence, he knew why he had no valid reason to be here. He came here to feel safe away from the quirkless masses, but despite how much he wanted to think that, he doesn't feel safe or trusted any of these people. As far as he knew, they could betray him, dispose of him for being a monster like his father said people will always do to people like him.
Katou looked contemplative for a moment before telling the truth. "I didn't want to be a Hero when I walked in, not really, I came here to get away from Quirkless people and to feel safe for the first time in my life, but I'm learning that I don't feel safe anywhere, so if I can't feel safe anywhere, I will use the skills I learn in this class to make others like me feel safe even if I never get to feel it myself." Katou grimly said as he sat back down as he waits for the eventual fallout of his comment.

After hearing Katou's reasoning, Niji couldn't help but feel sad. Not just for him, but others that felt the way he did. Nowadays, people didn't want others running around with superpowers. And for that, the discrimination between quirkers and quirkless has been at an all-time high. She wondered if that the issue five years ago. Her father supported quirk users although he was quirkless himself. He wanted to help build a bridge between quirkers and quirkless in order for them to live in harmony. However, not everyone agreed with this idea. And on the night of her ninth birthday...
Niji was brought back from her thoughts when Toma-sensei called her name. She stood up and put on a smile of confidence. "My name is Niji Uta. The reason I want to be a hero is so I can rescue those who can't save themselves..." Niji thought back to that night when everything was taking from her. She was only nine when she witnessed the tragedy. It was supposed to be a harmless, birthday sleepover. The local girl band Symphony had thrown a sleepover for their bandleader, Niji. All seven of her friends had come to celebrate.
That was until the sound of a wooden door being smashed in. The mad scientist came in and tied the girls up, demanding that Niji's father came to face him. "... to provide tech to those who need it the most...," Niji continued her expression slightly changing. Her father only wanted to change the world through his research. But the mad scientist wanted more. He wanted her father's life. He wanted what he was owed. Niji's father pleaded to let the girls go and take him instead. But the mad scientist had other plans. He pulled out a small switch, stating that the mansion was rigged to blow, killing everyone inside.
Niji still had nightmares of the night. "...and to protect the people, so they don't have to suffer from losing someone." Her smile was gone, replaced by a serious look of determination. Niji's father knew that there was no other option. He couldn't save everyone. But maybe he could save his daughter. He reached out and pressed a button on the young girl's Rainbow core, a device used to control Niji's quirk.
Her quirk activated and provide her with an egg-like, nano shield. It’s thin glass shown with many rainbow-like colors as Niji was able to see everything through it. She was good enough with her quirk at the time. Her father knew this. It was only going to save her. She watched the explosion go off. The explosion could be heard through her egg-like dome. She couldn’t turn the shield off or extend to help her father and friends. It was only protecting her. She watched as the explosion engulfed her room. The mad scientist with evil smile…. Her friends’ tears of fear and confusion… her father’s “I love you”... All gone within the flames. And she watched it all.
Niji tried to put it out of her mind. Everyone called it the Uta Incident, as though it was something that would be remembered in the history books. But Niji wanted to forget. She had quit singing in local places. Her guardian and butler, Jeeves, took her in and began rebuilding the mansion. However, nothing could bring back what Niji lost.
She sat back down in her seat, her thoughts still fresh in her mind. That’s why she had to become a hero. No more will people have to suffer as she did. She would be able to not only protect herself this time but others as well. She would make sure that no one would have to lose their loved ones to another villain.

Jin of course sat in his seat as relaxed as possible. His hearing let him pay attention without much effort, in an effort to keep himself from dozing off he took out his pocket notebook and quietly made designs of various gadgets. He of course did his homework on the teachers at UA as he listened to Vega give his introduction. Quirk demonstrations and introductions are soon coming his way and he stopped his sketching to pay more attention. He could never lose an opportunity to learn more about others' quirks as each and everyone one is unique in their own odd way.
Listening to the others give their introductions was albeit as predictable due to their demeanor. Katou showed signs of extreme anxiety when he walked in and thus his introduction was as anxious as him. Not out of ordinary due to the society he lives in, but an odd reason to give to why he is here. Niji from the sound of her introduction was more to speed with many others. Albeit seemed a bit more appropriate to put her in the hero course but to each their own. As it went around, it came for his introduction and of course he gave it thought.
Thinking of his reason to be a hero in his own right is a difficult one considering he never had huge aspirations to become one. His brother is driven to be a musician, his mother is a doctor and his father is a mechanic. They all have a drive to do what they want and he is the odd one out. He came to UA for the sake of bettering his knowledge and it was a school that was a little more free than other places when it came to using his quirk. It was a difficult question to answer when he himself doesn't know the answer.
But the more he thought about it, the more recalled all the people he helped in his hometown. The gloves, the goggles, the chair, the tools, each and every person he helped in his town started to come into his thoughts. He himself doesn't know why he helped them but...seeing their faces filled with such energy and delight when they can finally live their lives normally inspired him in his own way. To help people live in the world that they were born into in every way he can. He first thought them as strangers but looking back...they were more than that to him and some part of himself didn't realize until now.
The answer slowly came to him as he realized why and then he stood up. He adjusted his headphones and cleared his throat to make sure he was heard loud and clear. “My name is Jin Nakamura and my reason to be a hero is to…”, he said as he began to remember home.”..Help everyone who was born into this world and give them hope...to give them tech I build with my own hands that can help them live without any problem...to live life how they want it…to make sure that the world does not see them for who they are and not others view them as...that is my oath as a support student...”, he said as his usual neutral voice now carried a more quiet determination when giving his reason.
After that he closed his eyes and exhaled as he adjusted his headphones again as he sat back in his seat. His red eyes slowly drift towards the window as he quietly remembers his hometown and wonders what they're doing now.

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | "I am glad to see you all have very good reasons to become a Hero. It can be a difficult decision to make, and isn't to be taken lightly." He Stood up from his lean and fished down underneath his desk. With a mild grunt, he pulled two large, black, cases out from where the chair would normally be and stacked them on top of the desk. "Not everyone gets the opportunity to legally help everyone the way you will, so you should make sure you are 100% certain this is the life you want to live."
"I myself got my start illegally." He quickly popped the latch on the top case and spun it around to face the student. Inside was a mirrored black motorcycle helmet and leather riding suit. The helmet was scratched, dented, and scraped down to the composite in some locations. He pulled out the riding suit and held it up to the students. It was beaten and battered beyond repair, with a long gash on the stomach that was stained a dark maroon. "I went by the name of Sunhawk. I prowled the streets at night burning Gangsters and Drug dealers and worked alone. I made a name for myself amongst the Police Department and became a sort of boogie man for lower-level thugs."
"That's why I am here now. I have a unique set of skills that I will be teaching you to make you better Heroes. If you thought you were getting away with physical training just because you are support students you are sorely mistaken." He moved the first case out of the way and opened the second, larger case. "But we all know why you are really here. Your skills are either more technical or support based and you want to make the best of it."
"Support Heros fill a unique role in our organism, both creating..." He pulled out two large gauntlets with tubes running out of the wrists and miniaturized turbine in the palms. "And maintaining the equipment that more combat orientated Heroes use on a daily bases."
He packed the case back up and lugged it over his shoulder. "I want you all to join me outside today. We are going to do some practical testing of our quirks and skills so that we can get to know each other."
"Before we head outside do any of you have any questions?"

Niji listen carefully explained as Toma-sensei explained what he use to do. That type of lifestyle must have been difficult. From what she could tell, he must had been a vigilante before going pro. She understood that the vigilantes were trying to good for the city. However, she felt conflicted about it when it came to who followed what rules. Vigilantes lay down their own law and did the jobs that others couldn't bring to do. And telling from her teacher's suit, his job must had been very brutal, both emotionally and physical. But the life of hero would be just about the same with the only difference that it would be legal to use one's quirk.
She was puzzled when her sensei pulled out two large guantlets. They had a bunch of tubes connected to them and turbines in the center of the palms. She guessed that it was use to output power with a saftey mechanism in case the power built up to much. The thing that troubled her the most was that Toma-sensei said that would be displaying their skills in front of him. The problem was that her quirk could only create the objects. Niji had not learn how to synthesize her quirk with other technology. She was hoping she could learn that here in UA. But maybe her engineering skills could help. She might not be as fast as the other kid, but she can create tools to help with that. Niji followed her teacher, readying herself to demonstrate her skills.

Jin hearing the trials and tribulations of his teacher did put some perspective on this whole profession. Hearing a former vigilante telling his students all this is rather comforting to say the least. Some level of trust is hard to find these days with how turbulent the times are today with quirkers and anti quirkers. That level of street justice helps in its own way but in the end he is here for a reason.
Of course his brain was ticking when he saw the battered suits he pulled out. It was worn and old but they were etched with his very work all over. An old suit like that once served its purpose and it stood the test of time. It inspired him even more as he saw him pull out two gauntlets. Of course he caught on to what he was saying as he lugged his case and went outside.
Jin carried his stuff and followed along with Niji to where their teacher was waiting. It was the most straightforward deal as he soon asked them about any question. His hand shot up, “Is it our quirks on its own or do we bring out any equipment we have thats paired with it?”

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | "Nope." He stated the manner of factly to Nakamura. "I have read your files, but I want to see what you can do with just your skills." He stepped out into the hall, expecting the students to follow him. "That includes non-quirk related skills."
He walked through the halls with his hands in his pockets, lightly humming an old rock song. He kept an ear out for the student's expecting them to talk to each other. He needed to get to know the kids better in every facet, and their interactions with one another were a key aspect of how they would behave.
It took them a few minutes to clear out the campus and head outback. There was a gently rolling field out back that was perfect for their little exam. He had already prepped for this and had placed up a few articles that would be useful. There was a dummy for some combat experience, a long paint line in the grass to test their range, and a table with some loose electronic and mechanical junk. He didn't know what all they would use, but the junk would come in handy for a little secret test he was going to put them through.
"First off. Show me your quirk. As much as you can right now, without any supplements beyond what you see here. If you have any personal items please refrain from using them. After you both take a turn I'll give you a little test of my quirk too, its only fair." He stuffed his hand into his pocket and pulled out a little square of gum. He was miserable but he couldn't indulge his bad habits in front of the kids so the gum would have to do. He popped the little piece of gum in his mouth and waited for the students to start. He intentionally gave them vague instructions to see what they would do with little to no direction.

Niji was a little nervous, to say the least. She followed her homeroom teacher and Jin through the hallways of the school. She figures it would be a good time to get to know her classmates- or classmate. "So," Niji started. "Where are you from, Jin?" She waited for his response before continuing. "I am from Tokyo City. It's heavily busy with a lot of people and other activities, so this city is a little bit different than that." She did miss home. She wished she had someone to talk to about her problems and fears. Sure she could video chat with Jeeves, but it wasn't the same as being next to him.
She couldn't think of anything else to say to Jin as they made the way out to the rolling fields of UA. The field contained a dummy that was meant for combat training, a long paint line in the grass to test their range, and a table with some loose electronic and mechanical junk. Toma-sensei had explained that they would be demonstrating their quirk for him along with some planned activities.
Niji was kind of nervous, to say the least. But she did not want to let her sensei or classmate down. "I guess I can go first," Niji said moving in the center of the field and putting on a brave smile. "My quirk is called Rainbow Effect. It uses the nanobots in my body to help me create- anything." In case there were some confused looks, she added, "I'll demonstrate."
She closed her eyes and the Rainbow Core begin to glow brightly. She held out her hand and rainbow-colored nanobots ran up her arm and formed a high-tech blue sword. Then she concentrated some more and the sword became a high-tech red revolver. For the final item, she transformed the revolver into a high-powered gauntlet complete with bright yellow lights and high spinning turbines. "I can imagine an item and my quirk makes a high-tech version of it." She clapped her hand together and the item dispersed in tiny rainbow dust particles. "Of course, I have to know what I am making and how it works. And my nanobots can not stop replicating without this device," she said as she pointed at her rainbow core.

Jin walked alongside his classmate as they trailed behind his teacher. He kept his cool and to himself before Niji asked him where he was from. It caught him off guard as he wasn't prepared for her asking. She said her piece as she was from Tokyo City, a noisy part of the town and he severely didn't like the place." ...Kyoto. Born and raised in the calmer part of the country. Bit more quiet than here but this city has its charms.”, he said as he continued to walk. He adjusted his headphones in the time of silence as there wasn't much to talk about.
They soon came out to the field and were presented a dummy, its purpose as obvious as the teacher explained what they were doing. Jin adjusted the input of his headphones accordingly as his classmate went up. Her quirk piqued his interest as it utilized more construct-like properties compared to other quirks of that same variety. He closely observed her quirk in action as she demonstrated what it can do and its weaknesses. After that he soon realized he was next in line.
“Looks like its my turn”, he sighed as he held both his hands out front of him. “My quirk is called Teknopathetic and to simply explain it, I can vibrate my cells to emit sounds and-”, he activated his quirk and a bass boosted sound filled the air for a few seconds before he stopped. “This helps me do damage as well as create an imperfect sonar. Downside is that I need to keep my headphones on at all times in order to lessen the feedback from the sounds.”, he pointed to his headphones on his head. "Is that all you needed to learn sensei or do you want me to show the other uses of it?"

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | "That's all for now. " Toma rolled up the sleeves on his shirt and took a deep breath in as he turned on his quirk. The heat around him flares and moved the air around him, creating a heat mirage around his skin and fluttering his fluffy hair like a stiff breeze. He raised one arm to point a single finger at one of the dummies.
"My quirk is Solar Field..." He let contracted a small portion of his ambient power to a single point at the tip of his finger. A thin arc of plasma crossed the field connection between his finger and the dummy he was pointing at, quickly burning a finger-sized hole through the chest of the wooden dummy in second. "I am essentially a human star. My quirk is wild and difficult to manage....." He turned his quirk back off and exhaled a puff of steam as his hot internal air met with the cool spring breeze.
"That's why I rely on support equipment to make sure I don't kill someone or cause too much collateral damage." He softly kicked the case with his suit and gear in it. "Plus it lets me fly, which is fun as he-... as all get out."
"Now. Show and tell is done. Time for the real test. You have the rest of the period and that pile of junk over there - " He pointed his steaming finger over at the table full of scrap and lose parts. "to complete your first test. If you fail to do as I ask I will have you do laps around the building till you learn your lesson."
"The first test is simple. try to figure out a way to stop me from...." He paused as he pulled a white sheet off of another small table to reveal a busted small block engine. "from melting this to slag. I will be cranking up the heat slowly, so you have some time."
'I love dirty tricks.' He thought to himself as he looked at his student with a serious face. 'there is no way they can fail to try, but they don't know that.'
