She wasn't sure if she would mind losing her quirk, she had after all a sort of plan b. The reason and it was entirely unfair compared to Sean for example. But the reason why she went to U.A. was to learn to control her quirk, becoming a hero has never been part of the plan and even though she was going to try it, because that's what she had said to her father. It did not make it something she was so focused on wanting to do. Not at all. She wanted to be able to say something but she could not. There wasn't much to say after all, why was she here? This wasn't her place to be even though she did not wish to leave. She wanted to stay, she held his hand with both hers and simply accepted his tight grip on her hand and she watched hi. She watched him look up, have an idea that there was a possibility, only for that idea to be swept away immediately. She was a good for nothing, all she could do was whisper his name, trying to grab his attention awy from the bad stuff but she did not know what to say. What kind of friend was that. But lucky for Rowan she wasn't alone and Umi was able to talk to him. And she watched the two of them and she began to listen. It again felt like invading privacy so she should maybe go but for some reason she did not want to let go. Not when he felt so sad. It was Sean who had made her trust people, be okay with water and she was going to stay here and make sure he was relatively okay when it came to the news! Yes, that was her goal now!
She listened, she listened carefully and wondered if that was what her father meant. He was so furious when he had been at U.A. when she was found in a dumpster, he could not even say the words. And the time before that it was her mom and how much worry did they have? Did they suffer because of that? She surely did and she could still not remember what happened which felt frustrating and scary, no matter what Chimera said she wanted to know. She was scared and maybe understanding the black spots in her mind made it easier. So she could talk to her parents, without them feeling left out maybe. Maybe it would be a good idea. She watched Umi and she watched Sean and she for a second wanted to let go so he could hug his mother properly but as he did not show any initiative, neither did Rowan. She even went to sit on his bedside when Umi seemed to be done talking or forced to stop because of the tears and the hug was over and Sean apologized. She gave him a soft squeeze, "Sean listen. Please." She waited to get his attention before she finally knew what she wanted to say. "Yes you could have more careful but who cares about that now you are here, you are alive and awake. You did what you thought was best, those people driving should have been just as careful. It isn't your fault. There is also no need to make up for lost time, you can do whatever you want now, and we can meet up and you can meet up with others, there is enough to do that would make it all better. Don't-Don't bring yourself down when everyone is happy that you are back." She did something without realizing, she kissed him on the cheek. Which made her blush and look away and she stood up again, oops barging into a private situation like that. "Maybe I should go. I can visit you later or we could I don't know go out or so?" Yes, definitely not picked the right words but she had said it now anyway so it was too late. She slowly let go of his hand, every intention to leave the hospital now. Even if she had said strange things or kissed him on his cheek, she was quite happy, he was back, he was awake and he might not sit next to her in school but she would be able to see him, right?

In the past, whenever Umi cried, Sean would always be the one to wipe her tears away, then cheer her up and give her a hug and a big goofy smile. But with how shocked and upset the boy was, he could not even manage that. Not that he didn't try, but he just did not feel the same. Some of that joy and cheer that he used to have seemed to have vanished along with his quirk. He was no longer a hero. He felt powerless. He felt weak and useless.
But it was fortunate that he was not alone. His mom was here. Rowan was here too. And speaking of Rowan, Sean nodded at her request to listen to her. He listened to her words, tears slowly going down his cheeks as he did so. Unlike Umi, who was wiping her own tears away, Sean just didn't even bother. He just continued to listen. He was here and alive, he did what he thought was best, the driver should have been more careful, it wasn't his fault. Sean began to smile a bit, his troubles and sadness eased by Rowan's words. He finally began to wipe away his tears, looking at Rowan and giving her the cheeriest smile he could manage. It was a far cry from his usual smile, but it was close enough.
"T-thanks, Rowan."
And then what happened next came right out of nowhere. Sean's eyes widened as Rowan kissed his cheek, his face quickly becoming red, and his heart racing. He was not only surprised by what Rowan just did, but also by how okay he was with it. In fact, he felt a minuscule twinge of sadness when she pulled away. Meanwhile, Umi just giggled. "Oh my! Am I going to have to leave now to give you two some privacy?" Which of course made Sean blush even more. "M-moooom!" Seeing his reaction just made her laugh even more. It was good to see her look so cheerful after how long she had spent being all worried and stressed out.
But not so fortunately, Rowan said that maybe she should go. With Sean's eyes widening and him quickly looking over to her and frowning upon her letting go of his hand, it was clear that he didn't want her to go. "Awwww." Still, she could not stay forever, and Sean did not want to upset her. But her last words caught the boy's attention. Go out or so? Sean smiled. Yes, he would very much like that a lot.
"I understand. Honestly, I wish you could stay, but if you really gotta head out now, then I won't stop you. But I definitely want to hang out with you some more once I'm out of the hospital. I miss spending time with you. And yeah, I'd love to go out somewhere with you! Whenever and wherever you want." Sean then did something that made Umi worry. He tried getting out of his bed. "Sean, you sure you should be getting out of bed?" Sean quickly interrupted her. "I'm fine, mom. No worries!"
He then went over to hug Rowan. "Thank you again, Rowan." Being this close to her, especially after she had just kissed him, Sean could not help but blush again. Should he... try to... nah, maybe he shouldn't... but it was so tempting... After letting go of Rowan, Sean began to turn around to go back to his bed.
Only to change his mind at the last second and go back to Rowan, kissing her on her cheek.
Naturally, Sean's face was redder than a tomato. What did he just do? Why did he just do that? And why did he want to do that again? Ignoring his mom's giggling, Sean just stood there, doing nothing, saying nothing. Was Rowan going to be shocked? Mad? The boy hoped he didn't make things weird. "Rowan, er... I... uh..."

tags here | ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ She had to convince him that it was okay now and that he couldn't help it and couldn't change the past. He had to live in the here and now and thus accept that it was a happy happening that he was back under the living and under those awake to enjoy that moment. So that's what she told him. She even kissed him on the cheek, maybe to put more pressure on her words. She had no idea why she was doing it but she was and she wasn't sure what to say aobut it, she was already blushing but Umi's comment made that worse and she had to step away, say that she had to go and such. She let go of his hand and looked over her shoulder to Sean, brushing her hair aside and definitely being a bit shy. She wasn't sure if she had done something wrong and she had taken a step back and nodded. She twirled a string of her hair around her finger and looked at her feet. Sometimes she glanced at Sean while he was talking to her. She nodded, yes, they could do something together. She did take a step back towards Sean when she noticed he was getting out of bed but she stood still and stared with big eyes at him because he was getting out of the bed and he shouldn't! He just woke up but she couldn't say anything about it. Umi already did and he said her to not worry and what could she add to it.
Besides her head turned as red as a tomato when he hugged her and she mumbled a simple: "yea-yea sure." She would be able to text him and he could text her, yes, it would be fine. She looked away again when he let go of her and she fumbled with the zipper of her jacket to go away and she looked up surprised, this time her turn, as he kissed her on the cheek and she blushed but also smiled a little. She looked at him and giggled a little as he seemed to struggle with words. "Thanks, I will text you, okay?" She mumbled, what did you say with that and she was also very confused about what she thought she felt, she wanted to... nah that was weird. She did not feel that right? She smiled a little more and looked shy at Sean, "I see you." She finally walked out of the room and took a deep breath when she was outside. She took her phone out of her pocket as she walked to the stairs and texted the only person who might know an answer about this whole thing, god she was so confused.

So many thoughts and questions were rushing through Sean's head at the moment. As his face continued to burn a bright shade of red, he couldn't decide whether to look at or look away from Rowan. Did he just... kiss her cheek? Did he go too far? Did he not go far enough? Was Rowan upset that he kissed her? Was she disappointed that he only kissed her cheek? Gah, this was all so confusing! The boy was used to things being simple. But nothing about this was simple.
Nothing, except for the fact that Sean liked Rowan as more than just a friend.
He did catch that little smile of Rowan's for the half second that he dared to look at her face to see her expression. She wasn't mad? Did... did she like it too? Sean was so happy right now, he would even grin just like he used to. But he was also very confused. Did this mean that they were... a couple? Or were they not there yet? Sean wanted to ask, but he was also too afraid to ask, not knowing if he wanted to hear the answer, whether it would elevate his spirits or utterly crush them. He supposed only time would tell.
But there was another good thing that came out of this. With the boy's thoughts being scrambled like this, he had pretty much forgotten about feeling upset or depressed. The accident? The coma? Losing his quirk permanently? Those all felt so insignificant now. Right now, the only thoughts in his head (well, besides all of the thoughts of confusion) were regarding Rowan. She had managed to wash away all of his troubles. She was all he could think about now.
With the boy lost in thought, he had almost missed what Rowan had said. "T-text?" He then smiled cheerfully. "Yeah! I'll text you too!" He could not wait. It would be so much fun to text Rowan. "Yeah, see you too. Take care, Rowan!" And with a final wave, Sean watched as Rowan left the room.
The boy sighed as he went back to his bed and collapsed on it. He looked forward to hanging out with Rowan, spending time and seeing that pretty smile on her equally pretty face. He couldn't wait for summer, when he could take her to the beach, buy her some grilled fish, go surfing and teach her how to surf and swim. It sounded so fun! He looked forward to it! Now if only he could get out of the hospital already.
"Oooooh, looks like somebody's in looooove!~" Umi could not help but feel happy for her son. Seeing his adorable flustered expression, the smile on his face when Rowan said she'd text him, it was so refreshing to see her son be cheerful again. She was glad that Rowan could take his mind off of his terrible predicament. Yes, it was painful for the boy to no longer be a part of UA, to no longer be able to become a pro-hero in the future, to no longer be able to move water with his mind. But honestly? It was fine. Umi just wanted her son to be happy. Seeing him awake again, seeing him smile like he used to, seeing that he now had a girl that he liked, it was the best birthday present that she could ever get. She was just happy to have her son back.
