There were, typically, two primary things that the children of Kashima might dream of becoming one they grow up. The first, more common, hopeful future profession wasn’t so farfetched. The children of Kashima often dreamed of becoming players for the city’s own football team, the Kashima Antlers. With how deeply engaged the city was with the sport, it wasn’t hard to believe that some of its youth might seek the fame and glory that came with being a professional sportsman. The few locals from Kashima who were well-known to the populace outside of the city were those sportsmen that it exported, after all. Kashima and Pro Footballers simply went hand-in-hand, as far as the outside world was concerned. The other thing that the children of Kashima often wished to be when they grew up… Was swordsmen. The prominence of the blade in Kashima had only grown in recent years, brave defenders of the people that they were, and with a very minimal Quirked population, quite a number of children wished to pursue those Heroic endeavours in their own way, joining the school of Kashima Shinden Jikishinkage-ryu to become one of the powerful wielders of the blade the city respected, that in turn, provided the city with protection and hope. Of course, joining the school itself wasn’t the hard part of that dream… It was rising the ranks, in the hopes that one day… They might have a seat among the 6 Masters that were consulted by the Iron Will of Kashima himself. Those same 6 masters had a different duty today, however… One of them was currently guiding a pair of young girls towards the school’s primary hall, following a bit of a rough situation that had arisen by a certain storehouse… Having foregone the ice cream he’d initially desired, the man quickly escorted them into the city’s heart, where built up areas were much lower, and the old-fashioned architecture shined though… In particular, with a certain very large, very Japanese building that Elise might recognize as being the Shindou Kashima Estate, and their primary training hall for their branch of Jikishinkage-ryu! ”I’ve already let bossman know, they should be in their now, let’s not waste any time getting ready, hmm?” Master Gai, the exotic foreigner, would guide the two girls with a certain haste that made clear he wasn’t interested in making Ryouichi Shindou any angrier. That, and he didn’t want to leave the two any more time to think about what had transpired just prior to them coming… Guiding them through a side exit to the great Japanese structure, Master Gai would lead them first to a set of changing rooms just to the side of the main hall itself. Tetsuko didn’t seem to be terribly rushed or fazed by any of this, merely going through the motions as she took one of the long white uniforms that was set outside the changing rooms, before heading inside to don the attire. It seemed she was cold and isolated as ever, or perhaps, extremely focused on this upcoming council… ”You’ll need to get changed into a proper uniform, Eli-tan. Etiquette and all that, I won’t have my guest being the odd one out!” Gai would proclaim with moxy as he handed over one of the school’s uniforms to Elise, before realizing he might not have been quite as clear as he’d thought. ”Oopsie, didn’t explain that, did I? You’ll be my guest, just grab a mat and kneel beside me, behind a bit~ Easy peasy, right? Now go, get changed!” With a brushing hand gesture like he was some concerned mother, Gai motioned for Elise to don the white robes, while he himself would wait outside for the two girls. Tetsuko was the first to exit, now in her white uniform and having left her luggage with an attendant as she’d entered the building. Her old clothes remained in the changing rooms, for when this was all done… ”… Is everyone attending, this time?” The Shindou girl would inquire of the foreign master, the rush of everything and the growing tension for this meeting not fazing the hyperfocused swordswoman. ”The usual.” Was Master Gai’s simple response. Once Elise exited her changing room, the man would clap his hands together in satisfaction. ”Wonderful, alright, Eli-tan, when we head in, do as I said~ Oh! I guess I should tell you who you’re meeting huh? Teehee~” Again with the faux dumb expression of his, he’d quickly straighten up and deliver the rapid explanation to get Elise up to speed. ”6 Masters, and Ryouichi Shindou himself~ Of the 6, you already know myself and Masaru-sama. As for the other 4, well~ The one-armed woman is Master Uwabami. The twins are Master… Er, Masters? Just call them Taniguchi, they usually both respond~ Lastly, four eyes is one Master Ueno~ Memorise them quick, Eli-tan~” A somewhat impossible request, not that Master Gai seemed to acknowledge that. He just lead them on even further, likely leaving Eli a bit confused, though Tetsuko… Was still quiet. Deathly quiet. The Shindou girl evidently wasn’t new to whatever was going on… No, Tetsuko was more then familiar with these meetings to track her progress, to come to decisions regarding her training and utilisation of her Quirk, decisions regarding the future of the Shindou clan itself… These were all things that seemed normal to her. They were merely gauging her ability to bear the responsibilities she’d been given, and that didn’t… Seem unusual at all, not to Tetsuko Shindou. Master Gai would lead them to the hall’s entrance, looking back as if to ask them whether or not they were ready. Tetsuko nodded wordlessly, ready to accept whatever judgement came, knowing that this ‘trial’ was more than necessary to determine her failings and how she could improve… Master Gai also nodded to Eli to see if she was ready. There was a certain enigmatic nature to this whole ordeal, one that Gai had glossed over, as not once had he explained to Elise just why he’d invited her as his guest… That was something she’d learn in time. Assuming both of the girls were ready, Gai would slide open the door, revealing the large training hall… And those within. Court was now in session.

Dreams, they were the spice that made life worth living, and some might say that it was only natural for every child to have a dream.
For Elise, dreams had always been something of an odd thing. Her dreams, her ambitions had largely been defined by her surroundings, as the daughter of the Von Eisenberg and with a clear aptitude for medicine and medical studies it was only natural that people expected for the burgundy-haired lass to someday take over the legacy of her parents. Although, for Elise her desire to learn the art of the medical craft was not something as traditional as an obligation to her family. Not once did Elise feel that it was her duty, her task to become the successor to the Von Eisenberg their studies. That much was clear. The reason Elise von Eisenberg had once pursued the medical craft was, simply said the thing people commonly call: love
It was that selfsame emotion that had driven her to transfer to Yuuei, to seek out the path of one that society often refered to as a 'hero'. When she felt powerless, she started seeking the power to protect those she loved, and no love was as immense as the one she had harbored for her knight. It was a innocent desire, the desire to become capable of wielding the power to save the one most dear to her, to ensure that no matter what harm might come to pass, Tetsuko Shindou would always be saved by her. It was that very selfsame emotion that was currently destroying her from within.
Love could often be so beautiful, but also oh so painful...
As Gai was escorting the two girls toward the school's primary hall Elise still felt herself haunted by the recent events. The storehouse that now stood in place of the ancient tree they had made their vows at, their promise to always remain at each other's side. The words spoken by Tetsuko... It was as if everything was trying to destroy the evidence, the presence of the knight she had adored for so long, the one she stubbornly clung to within her memories. Even as ice cream was foregone in favor for a quick escort into the city's heart Elise noticed the built up areas were swiftly dropping and the old-fashioned architecture shined through the area. In particular of note was the very large eastern building that she remembered as the Shindou's Kashima estate, the primary training hall for the branch of the Jikishinkage-ryu, the one thing that had been there in Tetsuko's life for gods know how long.
Gai's words made her raise her head lightly, a brief nod of her head following in affirmation that she was willing to follow and quietly without saying a word she chased his footsteps, swiftly departing through the side exit of the grand Japanese structure, into something which appeared to be a set of changing rooms just to the side of the main hall itself. Looking clearly bewildered at the traditional uniform Elise couldn't help but blink in confusion as she turned toward Gai, as if to expect an answer, one she received soon afterwards. So she was to serve as a guest to the meeting, seemingly given permission to attend thanks to Gai's involvement. She was at least a girl who knew manners, and so upon his explanation she grasped the uniform and stepped into the changing room. Although it took longer than Tetsuko did, when Elise stepped outside it was clear that the girl's presence felt different, perhaps it were the clothes, or the way she had tied her hair together, the usual hairclip she was wearing in her hair, a memento from her knight seemingly oddly absent.
The burgundy-haired lass lifted the sleeved arms of the uniform lightly, as if inspecting herself upon which she would finally approach Gai, trying her utmost to focus on his words and not distract herself with the gloomy thoughts haunting her mind. She nodded attentively at the mentioning of the six masters and Ryouichi Shindou, the man's name sending a chill across her spine as she recalled stories and glimpses of just how strict Tetsuko's grandfather could be.
Fortunately, it seemed the people attending this meeting would not all be foreigners to her. Tetsuko's father would be there, alongside Gai, then there was an one-armed woman called Uwabami, the twins Taniguchi, the four-eyes, wait a man with glasses perhaps? Either way Ueno, Taniguchi, Uwabami, Masaru, Gai and Ryouichi himself. She quietly followed after him, the feeble whispers leaving her lips seemingly suggesting she was memorizing their names.
Elise didn't knew what to expect if entirely honest, and she felt both nervous and intimidated by what was about to come, she nodded her head in return to show she was ready for what was about to follow, and with Gai sliding the door open, revealing the grand training hall and its inhabitants the burgundy-haired lass froze for a moment, the hand next to her body, close to Tetsuko's remained shut, as if she didn't expect anything this time, but the slight tremble suggested she was quite nervous, but rather than seeking a knight who wouldn't protect her any longer, she instead slipped behind Gai, just enough to be visible as she waited for Gai to proceed, recalling the earlier instructions and being prepared to reenact them with pinpointed precision.
It seemed that court was in session, but if this was a trial then who was the defendant, and what was her role in all this? Was she just a spectator? Was that all she had ever been, a guest in Tetsuko's existence? She didn't want to think it, she didn't want to imagine that Tetsuko Shindou thought that little of her, but what answers did Gai hope to show her by allowing the burgundy-haired lass to attend this mysterious meeting where she was clearly an outsider? Was there truly anything Elise von Eisenberg could do?

The ‘trial’ was not what one would consider typical of that which the law oversaw. As stepping into the large training hall before, them, it would be impossible to tell who the defence was, and who was the prosecution... The only certainties were threefold. Tetsuko Shindou, called upon by this council, was the defendant. Ryouichi Shindou, presiding over the proceedings, was the judge. Elise’s role… Was also predetermined, even if she didn’t yet know it.
Walking behind Master Gai, Tetsuko would enter the large, mostly empty hall with a resolute look on her face. The hall was almost entirely cleared out, save for those few who sat in its center, kneeled against mats – spares of which were close to the entrance – in a formation akin to that of a long dinner table. At its head, Tetsuko’s Grandfather, a behemoth of a man whose grey hair and scarred features wrote out his entire history, right there for all to see. His grizzled expression set itself on the new arrivals, entirely unreadable, yet remarkably stern.
To each of his sides were three mats, stretching down this rectangle formation. Closest on his right was a man who, by appearance alone, seemed to be one of the more senior members. His features were mature but remarkably well kept, black hair in a neat ponytail and thin-framed glasses before discerning eyes. The other two seats on Ueno’s side were taken by a pair of remarkably similar looking persons, ones who looked to be the youngest of the masters, hardly beyond their mid-20s. Small and frail, the twins – one male and the other female – looked rather childlike in their appearance, despite their dignified positions. Each very light brown hair, they turned practically in unison to their new guests, the synchronisation almost disturbingly close.
Across from them, to the Iron Will’s left, was perhaps the most visually striking amongst the members. A rather well developed and tall woman who, as Master Gai had said, was missing her right arm, the uniform’s sleeve tied to the torso on that side. The woman also wore an eyepatch over her left eye, add that to her notable long, tied up hair, and there was a swordswoman who stood out among her peers, to say the least…
There were two more empty mats along her side of the meeting… Indeed, two… One for Master Gai, of course. However… It seemed like Masaru Shindou would not be attending this meeting.
As Master Gai pointed out the spare mats to Elise, Tetsuko stepped forward, standing still before the jury, above a mat that had already been laid out, opposite her grandfather. Her eyes glanced to the empty space where her father was supposed to be, and only then, did her grandfather finally speak up, his voice dripping with pure authority.
”It is good you are here, Tetsuko.” Her grandfather uttered, though little joy was actually in his tone. ”I am sure there is much we can talk about. This meeting, however, will address what is most important to this school, and must come first. The other masters have been kept waiting long enough…” A glare pierced into Master Gai, and even he seemed genuinely shaken for a moment… Quickly recovering as rubbed his head awkwardly, while guiding Elise over to his spot.
”Sorry, Grandmaster~ Had to make sure I escorted these Tetsuko-sama and Eli-tan with care! Oh, right, this is Elise von Eisenberg - san, my-“
”Is this the right meetin’ for a guest? She sure as hell don’t look like no student of ours.” Uwabami suddenly spoke up, her voice containing a somewhat more casual and rougher tone than the other masters.
”Student, no. The Eisenbergs are, however, still allies of ours. Her attendance is questionable, but allowable, I would think.” Ueno, on the other hand, was perhaps the most collected and calm of them all… Or so he seemed for now. Tetsuko’s Grandfather nodded, speaking with his same harsh tone. ”She may stay.”
Once Gai and Elise were seated, the Germanic girl would find herself glanced at by the twins, who seemed to quickly take an interest. ”Pleased to meet you, Elise von Eisenberg.” The boy greeted, his tone only slightly warm. ”Hello, Elise von Eisenberg.” The girl uttered after, her tone slightly cold.
Caring not for this filling of time as they sorted these things out, Tetsuko looked to her Grandfather with a growing concern, as she asked the question that she’d been waiting to. ”Where is my father?” Her tone contained just a hint of… Something. Fear, perhaps.
”Your… Mother was apparently having one of her episodes… He chose to stay with her.” It was small, but a hint of softening was in the grandfather’s voice, gone as quickly as it was there. ”It doesn’t matter. His own stance on the matters we’re to discuss is already known. Miku… She’ll manage in his care.”
Tetsuko’s head hung for a bit, as she finally knelt with the other masters. This kind of thing… It wasn’t unusual, her mother’s episodes… It just never got any easier. ”I see… Then I have no other questions, grandfather. Let’s continue.” Heeding her request, all the other masters settled into their places, Gai looking back to Elise for one last reassuring glance before things continued on.
”Very well then.” Tetsuko’s grandfather uttered, a volume and command to his tone that made every word echo in the masters’ minds. ”Tetsuko, as you know, the masters and I are here to measure your progress thus far. As the sole heiress to this school, it is vital that we can have confidence in the growth of your abilities. Any stagnation cannot be tolerated. Nor can continued weakness. I trust you know these responsibilities well.” He paused, allowing her time to respond. Tetsuko merely nodded before him, looking fairly steady even in his presence…
Though, in truth… The only reason she was so still was because the weight of the world was holding her in place.
”Then, why don’t we begin. First, in broader terms… Do you believe U.A. has been beneficial to your training?”
Tetsuko desperately wanted to fidget, to move, yet she did not. The young swordswoman’s only hope of relieving the building stress was to control her breathing, as she spoke up once again. ”I… Cannot say…” Tetsuko uttered with a quiet guilt, a sincere recognition that… She was no stronger… ”The facilities are excellent. The teachers are… Mostly, experienced and varied. Yet… I am afraid I do not believe my abilities have expanded enough in my time there…” The masters’ eyes pierced into her, and a hint of tension in her voice could be found… Like tension in a wire, that could snap if too much force was applied.
”I would not… I do not know if that is something to be blamed on U.A. itself. Rather… I would sooner say it is my own fault, for taking advantage of the environment it provided… I have stagnated. I have… Failed… In that regard…” Her head hung in shame, the Shindou girl knew deep down that these frivolous school pursuits… May well be an impediment… Silence hung in the air for a few moments. The jury took time to think on the first testimony.

A trial was usually held to discover the truth, did this mean that Tetsuko was being accused of something? She didn't know, so much about it didn't made sense, and yet seeing Tetsuko there by her lonesome self made it clear she was the defendant, her 'crime' unclear, and that the judge was nobody less than the famous Ryouichi Shindou, the girl's very own grandfather. The burgundy-haired lass remained silent, not sure what to think, not sure what to expect.
As they entered the room, now more than ever Elise felt alone, alone in a cold and intense place and yet she couldn't help but make just the smallest of glimpses at Tetsuko, the resolute look upon the girl's face making the lass wonder: What was truly the nature of this meeting? The way people were kneeling against the mats, spares of which were found close to the entrance reminded her of a long dinning table, yet this was far from the pleasant atmosphere that one would find at a dinner. Tetsuko's grandfather was clearly the head of this gathering, and when he turned his gaze upon them, Elise felt that same pressure from before threatening to crush her.
The other masters were equally intimidating in their own right. Closest on his right was a man, an older individual who was mature but had this presence she had often come to associate to the powerful seniors of the martial arts community, and those discerning eyes made her wonder just what wisdom lurked behind them. Next to Ueno's side were a much younger duo, perhaps only a few years older than Elise herself, but by now she had learned to judge a book by its covers. The way they turned practically in unison made her wonder something, but for now she pushed it to the back of her mind.
Across from them, to the Iron Will's left side was a person that Elise would likely describe as stunning. A rather well-developed and tall woman with features that if she was in a more cheerful mood would had made Elise gulp for a moment and wonder if Tetsuko would ever get to that level of Pillow power, but she soon noticed that the woman was missing her right arm and had an eyepatch, if she didn't have the looks of a weathered swordsmaster, then she didn't knew who would. But now was not the time to enjoy deathly pillows.
Still, the two empty mats suggested something, one for Master Gai himself, the other? Seemed to be missing Tetsuko's father... Why did she get an ominous feeling?
Tetsu's grandfather began to speak as Elise had gently grasped a mat as instructed, placing it a small distance behind Gai at his side while the foreigner started to explain the reason behind his delays, and accompanied with an introduction. Uwabami spoke up, a casual and rougher tone than she had expected, and already Elise was reminded of how much of an outsider she was, how much, Ueno at the other hand answered that while she was not a student, her family were allies and while her attendance was questionable, it should be permitted. In the wake of their conversation it seemed Tetsuko's grandfather gave her permission to stay.
As she was seated the girl quickly noticed the glances of the twins, and the Eisenberg felt her mind in turmoil. How would she respond? One wrong move and she could be thrown out of this room, so she tried her utmost to follow the advice Gai gave her, making a light formal bow as she answered the two of them. "It is a honor to finally meet both of you, Masters Taniguchi." Hopefully that would be polite enough, she already felt tense just thinking about it.
Elise's attention was slowly snapping back to the matter at hand, Tetsuko's voice calling her attention as she heard the girl inquire for her father's presence. So Tetsuko's mother was having one of her episodes? It was tragic that her mother didn't finish her rehabilitation yet, or she would have surely been more useful than Elise felt right now.
Silently the girl observed the proceedings as Tetsuko's grandfather accepted his granddaughter's request to proceed with this 'trial', the man explaining that they were there to measure Tetsuko's progress so far, her role as heiress to the school and that stagnation and weakness were not tolerated. What did he mean with that? Tetsuko was pretty strong! At least that was what Elise felt once upon a time.
Then came the first question, a question which surely was going to be hard. Even as a school for heroism, U.A. had done little on providing a proper combat training, as was evident when the events at the military demonstration camp happened. The stronger students of the school had their strength because they took initiative, not because they were taught. Elise remained silent, yet each word dug deeper into Elise as she learned more about how Tetsuko viewed her time at the school.
The burgundy-haired lass felt her body freeze when Tetsuko blamed herself for taking advantage of the environment, the guilt and shame the Shindou felt. Elise opened her mouth, as if ready to protest but it was then her entire body froze. Those frivolous school pursuits... When Tetsuko was busy tending to her wishes and requests like going on a date or hanging out together, the girl could have been training by herself.
No, it was not that Tetsuko took advantage of the environment, it was Elise, Elise's selfish requests which led to Tetsuko to feel like she stagnated, that she didn't get stronger. A hand raised lightly to her chest, the faint stinging sensation in her chest being accompanied by a feeling of immense guilt and shame. Because of her Tetsuko was now in this situation.
There was no doubt about it now... Even if she had been Tetsuko's princess, to the Shindou she likely had been an outsider interfering with the duties and responsibilities of the heiress.
Elise von Eisenberg was the outsider who had forced the girl into this situation...

It wouldn’t be difficult at all for Elise to feel as they she was an outsider. Though Gai had done his best to try and prepare her for the standard of etiquette within the hall, that hardly changed the way all the masters would glance at her. Distrusting, questioning. Even the Masters Taniguchi, greeted so cordially by the young Germanic lass, continued to look at her with a hint of curiosity. What went on within these halls was rarely known to outsiders like her, so it seemed all the masters were a bit dubious of the young girl. Which, in itself, spoke for how they thought of Master Gai himself... Despite the mutual curiosity pervading the masters, they were focused on the task at hand, as Elise was quiet enough to not pay much mind to. Tetsuko wasn’t even glancing at the Germanic girl, her eyes locked forward, staring into nothing. This burdensome focus of hers was what she had to do to keep herself collected in the presence of these intimidating figures. It was clearer by the second, that what Elise was viewing was no less than a trial. Her first testimony given, Tetsuko allowed her lamentable words of weakness and failure linger in the air, a crushing silence filling the room until Master Ueno finally broke it. ”This was to be expected.” He uttered grimly. ”The public eye is on U.A., but it remains in its infancy. Their methods are hardly as well-developed as ours.” The man spoke, a bite of cynicism in his tone as he turned his nose up at the school. ”As I said, Master Ueno, I do not think it any fault of the school, it is my-“ ”I am aware, Tetsuko-sama.” Tetsuko’s attempted rebuttal was quickly cut off by the master’s strong tone and sideways glare at the young swordswoman. ”I am aware that it is as much your own failure. It is your first responsibility to uphold this school’s honour. Not try to live out an idyllic High School life just because you have the chance.” His words were as sharp as any blade, and Tetsuko was quite clearly wounded, her head hung in shame. ”Perhaps you underestimate the merits of such an experience, Master Ueno.” Master Gai was the next to speak up, drawing the attention of the court. ”Friends soon become allies. Allies are something not to be undervalued, yes?” He tilted his head and grinned slyly. Ueno was about to reply, before Masters Taniguchi interjected. ”Master Gai does have a point. Networking isn’t something we should undervalue.” The male twin added. ”Yet… We also agree with Master Ueno. Though we are this council’s newest members, and have not observed Tetsuko-sama’s growth as much, we still believe important she is able to tell is she has not stagnated.” The female twin continued their train of thoughts. ”We also believe it best to focus on U.A. itself. Tetsuko-sama’s failures can be addressed right away, yet we cannot do the same for outside parties so easily.” The male twin finished their words, both of them nodding their heads in the conclusion of their thoughts. Throughout all of this, Tetsuko’s grandfather remained the silent judge, his presence permeating the air, the pressure threatening to crush Tetsuko herself as she listened to the masters’ responses to her words… Could it be really be true? That the High School life she’d been leading… Was detracting from her own strength? ”I think y’all are focusin’ on the wrong things. Allies or whatever, they’re great, whatever. Ain’t changing’ the fact that Tetsuko-sama’s own strength is what we’re here about. If she’s losin’ strength cause she’s tryna make friends… That’s it’s own damn conversation.” Master Uwabami would add in her own accented Japanese. Gai would smile slightly, nodding lightly at what she said. ”Are… Potential distractions to my training not something that we should be discussing?” Tetsuko chimed in… Herself starting to become convinced that maybe this life of hers had detracted in that regard… Clubs, friends, gatherings… Were they all taking away from her training? ”Your training schedule shall be evaluated, as well as your willingness to follow it.” All the masters quickly turned their gaze to Ryouichi Shindou, his powerful voice delivering unquestionable truths that the masters had no choice but to accept. ”Be thankful. This is your first year as a high school student, so I will merely warn you now. You will not lose sight of your responsibilities. To think that you have, with all that was available to you in U.A… Is unacceptable.” It looked like Tetsuko might be flattened under the weight of her grandfather’s words, yet she nodded her head lightly in response. Her grandfather’s words left a silence in the air, a pause before any of the other masters deemed they could speak up again. ”If it comes to it… We may need to re-evaluate your enrolment there. If they are providing you with so little that we cannot already give…” Master Ueno added, an extra venom to the painful words thrown Tetsuko’s way. ”You surely jest, Master Ueno.” Master Gai’s words came across with a smirk and a tilted expression, earning a glare from the older master. ”If you think we can provide the same things U.A. can, you must be forgetting the purpose of the school itself.” He scoffed aloud. ”He’s gotta point.” Uwabami huffed, reluctantly agreeing with the foreigner. ”Dunno if y’all noticed, but we ain’t got too many Quirked ‘round here. Master Gai ‘n Masters Taniguchi aside. Y’know, them Koyanagi boys are getting’ cocky cause o’ their Quirks. Tetsuko-sama gets her’s trained by a crapton o’ other Quirked? Becomin’ one o’ those monsters o’ Heroes? Sounds like enough to make ‘em wet their own pants.” The scarred woman grinned widely, evidently quite liking the idea. ”We agree…” The twins chimed in. ”It’s a good point…” Ueno’s brow was furrowed, one could practically see the vein twitching as the court turned against his words. ”Their methods are not fully developed. Can we say, with certainty, that they are as effective in training Quirks as you claim?” The bespectacled master protested. Tetsuko’s eyes were wide, the words seeming so obvious in hindsight. ”I… Believe I can at least say I’ve developed my Quirk in my time at U.A… I think…” Her words carried a hint of hopefulness, that maybe she had this small victory… Yet, her tone was drastically overpowered by the fear, the pessimism, the self-doubt… That all she was doing was looking for excuses among her failures. Ueno’s next words cut down that small hope. ”’I think’ isn’t enough. Do not look for ways to downplay your weakness.” His words were as precise as a dagger, aimed at her core. The court was quiet for another moment, Ryouichi Shindou looking down as he gathered his own thoughts… The trial was ongoing, yet his verdict would only be for the first charge… The next… Were even worse.

For someone who had valued the concept of being 'part of the group' Elise von Eisenberg knew that was far less easy to do than expected. Some groups were simply not meant for foreigners to be in. The way the masters glanced at her, distrust and questioning. Even as the master Taniguchi, who were greeted so cordially by the young Germanic lass, continued to look at her with that hint of curiosity that made it seem like they wondered her intentions for being her. What intentions did she even have? She didn't know, she didn't know what reason she had for being her, and that by itself felt quite damning.
Despite the mutual curiosity pervading the masters, they were trained enough to know their priority, to focus on the trial as Elise remained quiet enough not to disturb anyone. The fact Tetsuko wasn't even glancing into her direction only served to amplify Elise's doubts, her guilt and shame. All this time she had relied on Tetsuko, burdened her and at the same time the iron-blooded girl never relied on her, just trudging onwards into the snow by herself.
As the first testimony was given, Elise allowed her thoughts on how unfair it all was linger in her mind, a crushing silence that filled the room until Master Ueno finally broke it by speaking. His words were uttered in a grim tone, saying he had expected for this to happen. It was true, the public eye was on U.A, but at its core the school remained in its infancy, waiting to grow and develop, of course their methods were as hardly as developed as the Shindou their teachings, weathered by generations of exeperience, the bite of cynicism in his tone clearly there, and it sickened the girl to admit that he was right.
No Tetsuko, the blame was not with you, it was her fault, she was the one distracting her iron-blooded knight.
Elise felt her body growing colder by the second, a painful feeling for sure, could she have prevented this in any way? If she had asked Touma to start a special training program for them, if she had seen Tetsuko's struggles faster, could she had been of use? Useless, that was how she felt. She had been a burden to Tetsuko, someone the girl felt she couldn't rely on, a princess who didn't take the burdens of her knight into consideration. Still, to think that they were so oppossed to this all, but even more it felt like they considered the school more important than Tetsuko's feelings, as if she was a vessel for the school's honor first, and only after that a human being...
Yet when Master Gai spoke Elise raised her gaze slightly toward him, her expression one of disbelief as the man spoke up. There were merrits to such an experience, and Elise couldn't help but think just how right he was. Even if she was useless, perhaps she might had still been able to lessen Tetsuko's burden.
The twins spoke up, sharing their mixed opinions on the matter and while everyone spoke up Elise whispered, loud enough for Gai and anyone with sharp enough hearing to hear her. "That's right... In her time there Tetsu made connections which would be impossible for anyone to make in those halls here." She had to... had to... do what? "She gained the trust of a former Japanese Self-Defence Forces member, a high-ranked official with a fair amount of sway in the government, and although some of the teachers might be inexperienced, others possess a wealth of knowledge and information, masters in their own right." Indeed, she was thinking about Sophie and Hachi as she spoke up, yet Elise lowered her head in shame as she whispered the final words. "If anyone is to blame, it is I... Because I didn't take into consideration the burdens Tetsuko carries. I should have asked the Principal to provide her the proper education a warrior needed, but instead..."
What was she even trying to do? Shift the blame of everything onto herself? What use would it have? Would it banish the guilt and blame that Tetsuko was shouldering currently. To the masters the feeling of the girl was likely quite familiar, especially in her current choice of attire. With a bit of imagination one could clearly see the imaginary sheathed katana on her waist, the way her hand shakingly rested on the hilt of the blade.
Master Uwabami added in her own accented Japanese, commenting how Tetsuko losing her strength cause she was trying to make friends was a damd conversation of its own, Gai's slight smile, the nod, it alll didn't make sense to her.
Elise felt colder, and yet in her mind it felt like she was trudging into the cold snowstorm again, chasing after Tetsuko, but this time her purpose for chasing was different, as soon would became evident as the masters turned their gaze to the judge who spoke. Tetsuko's training schedule would be evaluated, as her willingness to follow it, and yet she got warned simply because she was trying to live like the other students did?
Master Ueno's words made her tremble for a moment, Tetsuko's enrollment being reevaulated, it was becoming too much for her. Tetsuko was already walking away from her, and now they were considering just pulling her straight out of her life? It was too much for her to no longer speak up.
The masters conversed, Master Gai's remark being quite on point as the others commented that there would be so much use to Tetsuko finishing her education.
Tetsuko commented that she thought that at the very least her Quirk had developed in her time there, and it was at that time, after Master Ueno spoke that Elise's voice resounded across the hall. "Her Quirk developed, she was able to stand up against a villain that even the number one pro-hero had troubles with, she was able to force a man wearing a highly advanced exoskeleton into retreating with her quirk! I'm sure if she is given a bit more time to train she could become even stronger. I... I..."
The blade was drawn, and yet it was not flung at any of the masters, instead the words that followed made it clear what the girl's intentions were. "I'll ask the Principal to start the special training program he was preparing! I'll even ask for him to change our accomodation so she can focus entirely on her training. But please do not... do not disregard the progress she made at Yuuei! Her blade is still sharp, she even rallied other blades to her cause, some which are strong in their own right. She... just has to be given the chance to swing them unrestrained."
It was at that moment the burgundy-haired lass thrust the imaginary blade into her own body, trying to take the blame onto herself, if she... if she could at least once be of use to her beloved knight by taking on this burden, to be cast out so the snowstorm could clear and Tetsuko was given the chance she deserved. Self-sacrifice was something often said to be dramatic, in stories it was enough to bring people to tears, but here it was the one who was sacrificing herself who was in tears.
Tetsuko's weakness was because of her princess…

There were few as wise as the travelled man. There were few men as well-travelled as Master Gai. As the proceedings continued, Elise would speak up to the ashen-haired man, who tilted his head toward to show he was listening… If Elise were particularly observant, she might also notice the perked ears of a curious Master Uwabami. While Master Gai listened to the girl’s words, his expression would remain unreadable, not wanting to give anything away to the other masters. ”Hold onto that feeling, Eli-tan. Wield it carefully.” He’d whisper to her. It was seeming like Elise’s role in this trial was about to become very clear… A few moments later, Elise’s voice would cut through the hall and draw all eyes onto her. The gall of speaking up without request as an outsider already had a few certain looks on her… Tanguchis’ curious gaze, Ueno’s spiteful glare, Uwabami’s raised brow of intrigue… Master Gai did not look back, instead smiling softly to himself as Elise spoke. This was sooner than he’d expected, yet, it was just what they needed. Tetsuko could only look to Elise with pure shock and horror, as the girl threw herself right into the fire. How could she even mention Semper Fi, when Tetsuko had had help on her side, surely… That wasn’t an expression of strength. Tetsuko felt her stomach churn, watching Elise continue to do all this… Why… Why did Elise still do this for her? The thought of it, of what Elise was doing, of what Tetsuko was failing to stop her from doing… The swordswoman felt like she was going to be sick. Her face contorted with agony and distress, as Elise sacrificed herself… So recklessly, so foolishly… Tetsuko’s eyes started to water, and she raised her voice for the first time she’d come into this hall. ”Shut up… This is my responsibility! Elise, it’s my responsibility, not yours. Stop with all this… Please… Just let me face what’s mine alone.” Tetsuko uttered with strained tone, unable to watch her sacrifice carry on. Her Grandfather was quiet and unreadable, the Taniguchis looked at each other in surprise, Uwabami wore a look that almost seemed amused, and Ueno… Glared right into Elise with venom beneath his eyes… Speaking up to put the girl in her place… ”How dare you speak against the masters of this council. You were allowed in good faith, and now you have the gall-“ ”Do not scold my witness, Master Ueno.” Master Gai interjected, a quiet and sly grin on his expression. Elise’s role had just been made clear. In this trial, Elise von Eisenberg… Was Master Gai’s decisive witness! ”I think it’s been made clear to you all now, yes?” The foreign master spoke, earning curiosity from the other masters. ”You would underestimate the strength of the bonds Tetsuko-sama forged in her time at U.A. Yet, look at this hall now. There are people who would stand against even us to fight for her. Tetsuko-sama would fight even harder for them..” The enigmatic man was showing his hand, and he’d the right cards from the start. ”To remove these bonds, to think that might make her stronger is simply… Unreasonable.” The Taniguchis’ eyes lit up with realization looking to each other and nodding in agreement. ”Master Gai is right. We would not have our strength if not for our bond.” One spoke up. ”We fight with our utmost strength because we fight for each other, right?” The other finished. ”Sounds like some wishy-washy bullshit…” Uwabami sighed, seeming at first displeased with this line of reasoning… Before she gave a satisfied smirk towards Elise von Eisenberg. ”That bein’ said… Girl, you got some balls, speakin’ up like that. If it’s cause o’ this crap you got ‘em... I’m willin’ to trust what ya said, touchy-feely crap and all. Just wipe yer damn tears, this ain’t the place fer cryin’” It looked like Elise had, unintentionally, earned the respect of at least one other master! However… She’d also earned the spite of another. ”Spare me this lunacy… We must not continue to speak of such trivial matters. Tetsuko-sama’s responsibilities are her own. Elise von Eisenberg has spoken out of line.” He scolded, his tone as decisive and harsh as usual. ”Do not act as if you yourself do not know the strength of fighting for others, Master Ueno.” Master Gai retorted, his words earning him the coldest glare yet from Ueno. ”Watch your tongue, foreigner.” The venom in his words was palpable, a tension rising within the hall… ”Enough.” Tetsuko’s Grandfather’s words cut that tension, his voice raised and his authority echoing throughout the room, silencing the masters for a few more moments. Tetsuko, throughout all of this, was simple stunned, frozen in place and unsure what the hell was happening. What were they talking about? Strength of bonds? What merit was there to relying on others, what merit was there to letting others rely on her, when she failed them so often! Tetsuko’s fists clenched in frustration and fury, marching on into the snow with harsher steps, reminding herself that some part as right… The Shindou girl pushed Elise away to protect her. These bonds, they pushed her forward… That was exactly why she needed to abandon them as they were, and focus instead on protecting that treasured past… ”Elise von Eisenberg.” Ryouchi Shindou looked to the Germanic girl, a pressure emanating off his gaze. ”You are a guest. You will not speak without first requesting it. Am I clear?” His tone made it quite clear this was him being merciful… Tetsuko’s Grandfather turned back to the court itself, continuing what he had to say. ”This matter is concluded. I am willing to accept the assertions that U.A.’s Quirked training and these… Bonds… May have merit. This will be assessed at a later date. Outside of that…” His gaze turned to Tetsuko herself, the swordswoman immediately feeling a weight upon her that threatened to crush her beneath it. ”We will not accept foolish attempts to take the blame for Tetsuko’s inability to advance her skills meaningfully. It is she alone who has the responsibility to live up to the standards set for her. I am deeply disappointed to hear such lack of confidence in the development of your abilities, and should this stagnation, this weakness continue… I will do what is necessary for the future of this school. No counsel will be needed. Now… There is more proof of your failures that we must yet discuss. Your personal training was only one matter…” Even Master Gai tensed up a bit with his words. Elise had worked like a charm so far, but now… Now came the hard part. ”Tetsuko. The weakness you’ve shown in your stagnating development… Is overshadowed shame you’ve brought with the events of the Semper Fi military camp. That… Is what we must discuss next.”

There was no way for her to know how this trial would unfold. In the end she was but a mere girl in the presence of masters.
As the proceedings continued onward, Elise's whispers would be heard by the ashen-haired man, who tilted his head and showed that he was listening. It was sad that she was not aware enough of the proceedings to be observant enough to notice the perked ears of a curious Master Uwabami. His expression was unreadable, making it hard for the Germanic lass to really know what to expect, what to imagine Yet his whisper did wonders to surprise her. He told her to hold onto that feeling, to wield it carefully, the lass was still quite unaware just what her role in this trial would become soon afterwards.
A few moments later, Elise's voice resounded through the hall, and even with all eyes drawn toward her, the snowstorm raging into her direction was intense, but she trudged onwards, her goal made clear to her heart. The Tanguchi's curious gaze, Ueno's spiteful glare and Uwabami's raised brow of intrigue, every bit was enough to make most shrink back in fear, and even if Master Gai did not look back at her, Elise felt it was her task, her final duty toward the knight who had protected her up to this point. She didn't knew if it would work, if it had any purpose or use, but she sure as hell wasn't going to just give up on this!
She tried to do her best to avoid Tetsuko's gaze, the shock and horror of the iron-blooded knight only resolving Elise to push onwards. This was for her sake, for the girl she loved her sake, let it at least be enough. She had thrown herself straight into the fire, prepared for what was to come, and yet as Tetsuko's face contorted with agony and distress at her sacrifice, Elise was prepared to do what must be done. If Tetsuko was to be blamed for this, then let it be her princess who would shoulder the punishment. A reckless effort, but a heartfelt attempt. A bittersweet gift for what the burgundy-haired lass feared might had been an end of the most beautiful bond she had ever possessed, and ever would have.
When Tetsuko uttered that it was her responsibility, that it was her burden to bear Elise continued to speak. If Tetsuko collapsed in this snowstorm, she would help her upright, even if it was that gentle push, that last bit of strength the burgundy-haired lass had left to give. If they couldn't leave this snowstorm together, then at least she wanted to push Tetsuko out of it, to make her return to the warmth she had once enjoyed so much. Ueno's glare was akin to daggers, the venom in his gaze, and his words made her shiver, but the resolution in her eyes was evident.
Even in the face of a master Elise would support her knight. Master Gai interjected, the man's quiet and sly grin on his expression being one that was confusing to say the least, Even if she had been oblivious to her role, one thing had been made clear, Master Gai was the defense attorney, and he has a secret weapon, a second blade on his belt: the decisive witness which was Elise!
The foreign master spoke, asking if it had been made clear to them all. Master Gai's words earned curiosity from the other masters as the man spoke further, and in a way she started to understand it. They underestimated the strength of the bonds Tetsuko was forging, yet in this hall, across the likes of the great masters themselves a meek girl had been given the resolve to speak up, to raise a blade against that overwhelming presence, a meek girl who would make Tetsuko fight even harder for her sake. The man started to show his hand, playing the cards to turn the tables around!
The Taniguchis' eyes lit up, seemingly realizing something as they nodded in agreement. Master Gai's words resounded in them, explaining how they believed that it was their bond which helped strengthen their blades, it was because they had each other that they were able to fight at their strongest, that much was made clear.
Uwabami commented that it sounded like wishy-washy bullshit, making the burgundy-haired lass her gaze turn toward the woman, the line of reasoning seemingly displeasing her, yet seeing that expression change into a satisfied smirk toward her was unexpected. To be praised for having the balls to speak up to the masters, cause of the bond she treasured so much, the touching words seemingly having reached the heart of the pillow master, ahem Master Uwabami. Nodding her head lightly Elise raised a hand to her eyes, wiping her tears and after a little sniff nodded her head toward the woman, it was subtle, but the look in the girl's eyes had changed. Even if she was a princess, there were embers of something else, raw unrefined embers of a spirit that the warriors might recognize quite well.
The man's scolding words as he commented that her words were trivial matters, lunacy and that Tetsuko's responsibilities were her own, that the Germanic lass had spoken out of line the girl's resolute gaze stood in defiance of his words. Her bond with Tetsuko her shield, her love for the girl a untrained blade. She wouldn't back down!
Master Gai's retort was curious, as if it hinted at something more serious, more complex than anything involving this trial, but for the time being Elise tried to focus on what was most important, returning to the side of the one who had tried to push her aside.
Even as the venom in the other master's words was evident, the tension raising high Elise wouldn't back down, an unexpected fire lit within her heart.
Tetsuko's grandfather's word was enough to silence everyone, including Elise who gazed at him.
Ryouchi Shindou called out to her, his tone making it clear she had spoken out of place and was being merciful in his judgement, making Elise nod her head lightly, a small bow of her head making it clear she acknowledged her actions and was grateful for his mercy, even if she did not regret standing up for Tetsuko.
Elise had gone quiet as Tetsuko's grandfather commented on their personal training, considering that Yuuei and those bonds might had merit, but soon revealing that her personal training was only one matter to be discussed. Elise did not know just what was to follow, the comment about Semper Fi making her entire body tremble lightly, and like a warrior feeling a phantom pain from a past battle a hand reached for her chest, for the area that still bore the scar the monster known as Thunder Shock inflicted upon her...

Though Elise had entered the room an outsider, as the proceeds went on she quickly become more at home amongst these warriors… The developing fire within the girl did not go unnoticed by the keen Masters, nor by Tetsuko herself. Some saw it as simple and foolish defiance, the acts of an arrogant outsider in their sacred halls. Others found it simply curious, that such a spirit was adapting so quickly to the situation. Uwabami simply found it entertaining and was starting to like Elise more by the second. A fighter who didn’t care about what stood in their way? Well, that was her kind of warrior. Tetsuko, on the other hand… Was above all else, confused and conflicted by the sudden rise of this warrior spirit Elise displayed. The most vocal voice inside her own mind told her that this was just another example of the reason they needed to part… Tetsuko’s own mistakes, her own failures, were causing Elise to change, to defy those who ought not to be defied. That change in and of itself inspired fear and unease within Tetsuko. It had always been something she’d struggled with, change… Now, to see her own childhood friend changing before her own eyes, as she had been for so long… Only fed that fearful soul more. Tetsuko was growing angry, at herself, for letting this happen, for losing sight of the past she needed to protect. If only she’d been stronger, this whole situation would have never occurred. Elise wouldn’t be so recklessly and needlessly putting herself through this trial… That knowledge, that it all came back to her, made Tetsuko feel like throwing up. It boiled in her gut, left her disgusted entirely with herself. It was as though, while she trudged into the snow, bearing her burden, all she could see was the damage already wrought… Yet, even as Tetsuko Shindou walked into the snow, the young swordswoman couldn’t help but glance back. For behind her, a faint glow appeared. It was probably nothing, but it drew her eyes nonetheless… It drew the eyes of a swordswoman wallowing in her own failure, yet knowing, deep down… That she was running from those same failures. That light, however, was hard to see with the heavy snowfall that came down from above. Tetsuko’s grandfather’s words, his disappointment and disapproval, it emphasized the weight of the burden Tetsuko carried. She alone was responsible for her own weakness, it was thus up to her rectify it… Even as her grandfather said he’d allow the Shindou girl to remain at U.A., Tetsuko couldn’t help but wonder if that was the right choice. Maybe she really would be better off if she no longer attended, for the sake of her responsibilities, for the sake of her family’s honour… The shame she’d already caused them… As great as it was, it paled greatly in comparison to their next topic. The very mention of Semper Fi had Tetsuko’s body freeze up… Her failures there were tremendous, and the girl had long since known that they would reflect poorly on her family, that she had disgraced them so much… Her head was hung with shame at the dishonour she’d caused, while her grandfather spoke up again. ”We have already received the reports, and gone over them in detail. Master Ueno, retrieve your documents and confirm the events with Tetsuko. Until he is finished, I will not accept any more interjections.” The man uttered, his tone becoming somehow even more stern and powerful. He had trained plenty with weapons, so much so it seemed he was able to turn his own presence and voice into weapons of their own… Wielded primarily to intimidate. Master Ueno would nod, before rising from his position and quietly walking over toward one of the entrances to the hall. In the brief time it took to prepare the second part of the trial, Master Gai would turn back to Elise, convening with her. ”Excellent work, Eli-tan~” Master Gai said with an encouraging smile, one that quickly lowered into a much less readable expression. ”Your timing was perfect, but right now… You’ll need to be careful… Master Ueno has much more to stand on with this topic… And the other masters might not be so cooperative…” Master Gai warned. Indeed, it looked like clearing his ‘client’ of these second charges would be much more difficult. Master Ueno retrieved some documents from an attendant who was waiting just outside the hall, before returning to his mat. He’d kneel once again, laying them out in front of him and glancing towards Tetsuko. The prosecution’s evidence was ready. ”Let’s begin. We’ll go over what we already know.” Master Ueno’s voice was cold, his serious tone pervading his speech as usual. ”You, Elise von Eisenberg, and a teacher at your school were attacked by soldiers at the beginning of this incident. This particular engagement is of little concern, however, as you managed to effectively dispatch the aggressors. Would you agree?” Tetsuko paused, still finding her head bowed in a seemingly constant gesture of submission to these claims. ”I… Was able to defeat a Quirkless man, yes. However… He was still able to fire his weapon, following my failure to ensure he was incapacitated… Elise.. Was hurt.” The Shindou girl didn’t dare look Elise in the eye as she uttered that… Gai himself subtle raised his hand to Elise, a ‘stop’ motion of sorts, knowing now was not yet the time to object. ”I see…” Ueno sighed, before continuing on. ”It is after this… That our true concerns arise. As you attempted to escape the area, you came across the villain known as Thunder Shock… A cruel and detestable man. You… Chose to cooperate with him. Is this true?” The man’s words lingered in the air a few moments, the silence surprisingly not broken by Tetsuko. ”Master Ueno.” The foreigner spoke up in a quiet and polite tone. ”I would like your permission for my witness to corroborate whatever we learn.” The bespectacled master glared at Gai for a moment, though it seemed he was more inclined to accept with the formalities offered. ”Very well. Provided she does not speak out of turn again.” Ueno replied, before looking once again to Tetsuko. ”Now, Tetsuko-sama. Did you choose to cooperate with Thunder Shock?” In the eyes of Tetsuko, something quickly faded. The pressure upon her shoulders seemed to hang her head even lower, as an almost vacant look set itself behind her eyes. ”I… No, there is no… Justification. Yes… To try and survive, I… I cooperated with Thunder Shock.” Her entire body shook with those words. She felt like screaming, as what escaped her lips was… Almost certainly… The truth.

What was her role in all of this? A mere outsider, a decisive witness? As the proceedings developed the burgundy-haired lass started to slowly notice that a path was unfolding before her. The embers of a kindling fire were lit within her, a fire that did not go unnoticed by the keen Masters nor by Tetsuko herself. Some might had seen it as a simple and foolish defiance, the acts of an arrogant child who did not know her place in those sacred halls. Others might had found it simply curious, that such a spirit was adapting so quickly to the situation. Uwabami at the other hand found it entertaining and seemed to approve of her in a way the other masters who didn't. She was a young warrior who didn't care about what stood in her way, if it kept her from reaching Tetsuko she would force her way through.
It was tragic that this change had been caused by those events, events which left Tetsuko confused and conflicted at the fact the once passive and meek child had started to show a more rebellious side to her. She had gone quiet, but she knew all too well that she wouldn't be able to remain silent in the face of this subject. The burgundy-haired lass trudged in the snow, trying her best to chase after the distant outline of the knight she had lost. Forcing her way onwards, enduring a burden she had never expected to find here. However, it was a burden she was willing to carry, for Tetsuko's sake.
The subject about Semper Fi made Elise visibly distressed, and yet her reaction showed something else, a glimpse amidst that fire which was just waiting to show itself, but for now it remained sheathed, until the right time to speak had arrived. Tetsuko's grandfather commented that they had received reports, reports which Master Ueno would affirm with Tetsuko and until they were finished no interjections would be considered permitted. It had been made clear that she would have only one chance, one she would have to time carefully. As Master Ueno went to the entrance of the hall Master Gai turned toward her, Elise's gaze softening for a moment as she nodded her head firmly, the next part would be much harder to clear, but Elise hoped her plan would work. Master Ueno returned to his place, showing the prosecution's evidence, evidence which would no doubt be damning and decisive, but a critical piece was missing, a piece which Master Gai had in his possession.
Master Ueno's voice was cold and harsh as usual, the conversation on how they had effectively dispatched the aggressors making Tetsuko object, revealing she considered it her failure to ensure he was incapacitated, and that she ended up getting hurt as a result. Why was Tetsuko blaming herself for something she had not been responsible for? The burgundy-haired lass couldn't imagine it why. Gai's gesture to tell her not to interject made it clear she had to wait, wait a little longer.
However, when Thunder Shock's name was mentioned Elise's body tensed. Even now that fiend continued to haunt her. When the man's words lingered in the air, asking about whether they had chosen to cooperate with him or not Elise could see it, the moment approaching where a single opening would show itself. The foreigner spoke politely, asking for permission to corroborate whatever they learned, and the bespectacled master seemingly permitted it after shooting a glare at Gai's direction, repeating the same question. It was at that time, when Tetsuko revealed that she had tried to survive and cooperate with the monster that Elise acted. A hand was slowly reaching into the air, the one that had remained at her side till now as she tried to gain the attention of Tetsuko's grandfather, permission to speak. If they had denied it, she would remain quiet, but else... If Tetsuko has imagined herself as standing bladeless in front of Master Ueno, defeated and ready to surrender a flash of metal would swoop from her waist, and perhaps for a moment it might had felt like a dagger flashed past her as the witness of all people joined in on the defense.
"Master Ueno, I'm afraid there are some... facts that Tetsu-" She paused for a moment, inhaling deeply as she steeled herself. "Tetsuko-sama is unaware of." This was it, her one chance to try to clear things up, and this time she was much more careful, in the end this time she didn't flail with emotional swings, a single and precise calculated move to crush the prosecutor's evidence. "While it is true that we cooperated with Thunder Shock, it was under my insistence. When we first stumbled onto him, it was she who tried to attack him, to bring justice onto that foul demon."
She still felt the memories lingering in both her mind and heart. "Thunder Shock is a dangerous individual, cruel and detestable, but also powerful and was aided by a powerful foe. Considering her Quirk a head-on attack could have been dangerous. You don't swing a katana at a cannon, right?" She tried her best but the next part was the hardest, a truth that Tetsuko had been oblivious to till now. "When I insisted we work with him, it was not with survival in mind, it was to make that man lower his guard. If he thought we submitted to him, he would be less likely to be aware of my true intentions." She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath as she continued. "I intended to exhaust Thunder Shock by having him involve himself in conflicts, and then planned to strike when the opportunity arose."
She turned toward Tetsuko and resumed her explanation. "As your evidence likely shows, we came in conflict with special forces within the armory, soldiers wearing special armor which enhances them, granting them power far greater than normal. It was there that I planned to spin my trap. During the battle it was Tetsuko-sama's strength which allowed us to disable one of the soldiers, a feat which no doubt surpassed the teacher who was with us." She paused for a moment, recalling what followed, and it was here a hidden truth was revealed. "When Tetsuko lost consciousness after the enemy escaped, an exhausted Thunder Shock attempted to leave, and it was here that I tried to act."
The sting in her chest grew worse as she continued. "I... failed... Because I lacked proper training I was incapable of stopping Thunder Shock. I injured him, but it was not enough to prevent him from leaving. That day we cooperated with Thunder Shock not in order to survive, but in order to end that menace. It was my error in judgement, if I had been able to tell Tetsuko-sama, if I had conveyed my intentions we might had been able to stop him, it was my inexperience which led to his escape and the unjust blame to be cast upon Tetsuko-sama."
She bowed, bowed deep enough that her head touched the mat as she continued. "I was taught by my parents to hold up for my mistakes, so I plead that if you are to judge this matter, then judge the one who brought this shame upon her. If... I had the proper training I could have stopped him, so instead please judge me for my shortcomings instead of Tetsuko-sama." She really disliked sounding so formal, but if it had to be done.
Because she had been weak she had been unable to protect Tetsuko, unable to stop Thunder Shock.

Tetsuko’s admission of cooperation earned silent stares of curiosity, disappointment, and contempt from the trials attendees, all of whom did not find much good in what Tetsuko had revealed to them… Cooperation with a villain, one linked to organized crime no less, was a matter of great concern to the family who fought against a crime clan themselves…
The young swordswoman could only hang her head in crushing shame at this admission… Before raising it in despair as Elise spoke up. Tetsuko had foreseen this, it didn’t make things any different. That burning rage within her gut, the one that made her feel like she was going to throw up, the one that made her realize how much there was she needed to atone for…
”Why… Why won’t you just be quiet?” Tetsuko said quietly to herself, as she braced for what Elise might say next. Master Gai had permission for her to speak, so interjecting now would not be wise. All Tetsuko could do was sit there in horror as Elise twisted the conversation to try and alleviate the Shindou girl’s burden… What the Germanic girl first said was mostly true. Tetsuko had indeed been the first one to attack Thunder Shock, but her decision to then cooperate… Hadn’t been merely because of Elise’s insistence. It had helped, sure, but Tetsuko’s decision… It was based on her merely doing whatever might get Elise out of there alive…
Tetsuko bit her tongue, holding her interjection for now as Elise continued. Her words about the threat Thunder Shock posed rang true, earning nods of agreement from the Taniguchis in her comparison to striking a cannon with a katana. ”She is correct.” One added. ”You’d aim for the gunner instead” The other concluded. Whether or not that was a metaphor, or it had simply gone over their heads, was anyone’s guess.
Tetsuko didn’t know where Elise was going with this, but the eventual reveal was… Worse than she could’ve imagined. Elise had lied to her? Her dearest childhood friend… Had lied to her. For what purpose? To conceal her intentions? To hide the rage and desire for revenge Elise might still have been feeling? Tetsuko felt cold and confused… Yet… It only drove her daggers deeper into her own self-inflicted wounds. Had she really been so unreliable, that Elise had to conceal her intentions? Her face wore an expression of pain yet again, this time… A deeper one than usual.
The Taniguchis looked as curious as ever when this came to light, Ueno just glaring at Elise with unreadable eyes. Uwabami was grinning again, her respect for Elise’s apparent ruthlessness growing by the second. ”Wearin’ ‘im out an’ puttin’ a bullet in his back? Sneaky shit.” The one-armed master uttered, a hint of amusement in her voice. Ueno glared at both her and Taniguchi a moment, wordlessly reminding them that it was not their turn to speak.
The next thing Elise described was another particularly bad memory for Tetsuko, a moment of weakness that pained her to remember. Though it was true, she’d managed to fend off one of the soldiers, it had taken all her strength to do so. Every lost drop of her strength, for what? To defeat a man who didn’t even possess a Quirk? Not only that, but doing so had left Tetsuko vulnerable, an incredibly idiotic thing to do in the nearby presence of villains… It was this particular carelessness of hers that had allowed Thunder Shock to escape, that had caused the pain the Germanic lass suffered. As far as Tetsuko was concerned, that scar may as well have been caused by hero own hand.
So it only made Tetsuko more uneasy, more disgusted with herself, to hear Elise try and take the blame unto herself, claiming that it had been their intention all along to end him. Tetsuko grit her teeth in frustration, in pure anger and self-hatred as she tried to hold back her words, while Elise so needlessly tried to throw herself under the bus for Tetsuko’s sake, claiming it was her own fault, that the judgement… Should be rested upon her. As Elise concluded, Master Gai would smile unsteadily… He was evidently not quite as confident in their proofs this time… The brief silence was cut through with a precise blade from Ueno himself.
”Are you aware of this meeting’s purpose, Elise von Eisenberg?” Master Ueno spoke, his words carrying a hint of an accusatory nature to them. ”We are here to, above all else, assess the progress of our school’s future head. We are not here to determine who else we might shift the blame onto for her own failures. Do not tell us where to place our judgement.” The bespectacled man’s words were cold as ever, his demeanour calm yet venomous.
”Your claims are without evidence. Yet, for ease, let us presume they are true.” He pushed his glasses up, steadily dismantling Elise’s words right before her. ”This does not change the fact that Tetsuko-sama chose to cooperate with Thunder Shock. Without knowing about your plan. Claim it was at your insistence all you like, it does not change the fact that her own agency allowed her to act as she deemed fit. Tetsuko-sama made the choice to cooperate with a detestable villain.” Master Ueno was firm and decisive, causing even Gai to waver in the face of his words. This was not looking like an argument they could win.
”You must surely understand why Tetsuko-sama came to this decision, however.” Master Gai reasoned, hoping to salvage this situation. Taniguchi and Uwabami looked on, having little to add as they awaited Ueno’s judgement. However, it was Tetsuko who spoke up next.
”I made that choice because of my weakness.” Tetsuko spoke up, her head raised, her face… Drained and vacant. ”I… Made the choice that I believed would ensure our survival… I made it because I was too weak to stand against Thunder Shock. I disgraced this school… Because I was weak.” The young swordswoman’s voice cracked slightly, the pressure finally cracking her façade, as she spoke on. ”Elise’s plan… I was unaware of it. Even if I had been… It was my own incompetence that brought it to failure. If I hadn’t left myself vulnerable before those villains… Thunder Shock… May well have been stopped.”
Master Gai wore a concerned look, glancing back at Elise in an almost apologetic manner. As though to say he was sorry… For not guiding her more, for letting this get to this point.
”I believe it is settled then.” Master Ueno’s sharp blade ran across them now, a decisive cut that would be difficult to recover from… ”Tetsuko-sama failed this school. Her weakness in the face of a villain is a disgrace. Outside plans and others who seek to take the blame are not relevant. All we need to do know is ensure this grave mistake is learned from…”
A chilling silence set itself over the hall, like a sentence had just been delivered… Ryouichi Shindou was quiet too, however, the judge still watching the proceedings…

Tetsuko's words clearly had earned a mixture of reactions from the trial attendees. Curiosity, disappointment, contempt were some of the emotions shown in their gazes, all of who did not find much good in what Tetsuko had just revealed. Cooperation with a villain like Thunder Shock, one linked to organized crime no less, it was obviously a matter of great concern to the family who fought against a crime clan themselves.
As the young swordswoman hung her head in crushing shame at this confession, the despair in Tetsuko's face as the burgundy-haired lass spoke up felt like a dagger being plunged in her heart, but she still continued onward. She had to do this, for Tetsuko's sake, it was something she had convinced herself of. When the iron-blooded lass spoke quietly to herself, asking why she just wouldn't be quiet, Elise spoke up. She tried her best to find a proper angle, a proper method of turning this conversation into her favor, to try to alleviate the Shindou lass her burden. It was an attempt, as she first spoke about how Tetsuko had been the first to try to attack that villain, but her decision to cooperate, surely Elise knew the true meaning of it: It was not out of weakness, fear or the desire to survive, it was out of concern for Elise's safety.
As Tetsuko bit her tongue, holding her interjection for the time being as she continued, Elise's words about the threat that Thunder Shock posed rang true, earning nods of agreement from the Taniguchis in her comparison to striking a cannon with a katana, indeed even if their wording felt a bit curious, she thought they at least understood her message.
Still, seeing that pained expression upon Tetsuko's face only intensified her suffering, the feelings of guilt and regret at having once been so absorbed by her desire for vengeance. The burgundy-haired lass pushed onwards, she could plea for forgiveness or carry the burden of her sins after she was done saving Tetsuko.
The Taniguchi's looked as curious as ever, their thoughts a mystery while Ueno simply continued to glare at her. Still the Pillow Master Uwabami grinned once more, her respect for the burgundy-haired lass her apparant ruthlessness making Elise unsure whether to take this comment as a compliment or to hang her head in shame.
The next thing she described was a memory which still haunted the two of them, while Tetsuko saw weakness, Elise saw a victory, a knight who gave it her all to best a soldier nobody else could in their group. It was obviously something the two of them were divided on, as was the matter of who was to be blamed for Thunder Shock's escape. It was a desperate effort, and yet Master Gai's unsteady smile was evidently a sign of the horrible outcome of what was to happen. The brief silence was cut through with a precise blade wielded by Master Ueno himself.
Elise paused as Master Ueno spoke, his words accusatory in nature as he commented that they were there to assess the progress of Tetsuko, the future head of their school. Yet was that truly the case? The man's cold words and his demeanor seemed to suggest to her they were there to blame Tetsuko and punish her rather than set things right!
Of course, her claims were without evidence, and watching her blade being dismantled right before her eyes was enough to make Elise feel powerless once more as the Master rightfully told how Tetsuko chose to cooperate with Thunder Shock of her own will.
When Master Gai tried to reason, hoping to salvage the situation the swordswoman's words were another decisive blade thrust into the defendant's body, one which visibly upset Elise as she trembled lightly, lowering her head as her expression became more difficult to read. "Why... why are you always like this..."
She whispered feebly, just loud enough for Master Gai to hear her. "It wasn't because of weakness, but out of concern for me that you cooperated with him". Anger rose within her heart. "Never did you rely on me, always carrying the burdens by yourself. Am I that unreliable to you? Or is it because I'm weak that you refuse to share this burden.
A chilling silence filled the air as Elise leaned a little closer and whispered to Master Gai. "This would have never happened if we were prepared for this Master Gai. It is unfortunate, but currently, the school lacks the proper means to prepare us for situations like those at the camp. We're taught through exercises, even I who received a special training course only learned to fight against dummies. No amount of such training can replace the experience of fighting against a real person. What we needed wasn't such lectures, what we needed was experience, an instructor who could help us understand the experience of a true battle. What we needed was a master to teach us..."
A momentary pause lingered in the air, the silence crushing as Elise understood now why Tetsuko didn't rely on her... It was because Elise von Eisenberg was weak... She didn't want to crush the girl under a burden she couldn't carry, which meant. "I want to help carry her burden... I want her to finally rely on me, I... want to become stronger like she is."
Truthful words from the depths of her heart, yet she could only wait to see the end result of this trial, a trial which might truly end up being decisive for both Tetsuko Shindou and Elise von Eisenberg in so many ways. Why were both girls doing what they were doing? Many would have asked that question, and perhaps none would possess the full answer to it. But for now all she could do was wait and pray that Master Gai had a plan, a plan to help her rescue Tetsuko from this cold snowstorm they were currently trapped within, hoping to drag both of them back to the warmth she adored so much.

Post by Tetsuko Shindou on Dec 20, 2018 7:43:54 GMT -4
Ultimately, the foreign master knew they’d done what they could in this dire situation. Elise’s help had been invaluable for the first charge, destroying Ueno’s assertions with her own testimony and that fire that let her rage through what was in her path. Yet, not every fight, no matter how well fought, could end in a victory. Master Ueno was not going to allow the Eisenberg girl’s words to go uncut, it seemed, and with a near surgical precision, her brought out has blade and cut cleanly though their own weapons. If Elise had thought it similar to a princess’ dagger coming to aid an unarmed knight against this swordsman… Well, the situation now seemed to show exactly why these masters were to be feared, for that swordsmen had sliced the dagger in twain.
Tetsuko sat in silence, in some grim contentedness with the situation’s outcome. This was her burden to bear, and even if it hurt so much… What choice did she have but to bear it? The entirety of the hall was silent, awaiting Ryouchi Shindou’s next words. This pause allowed Elise to voice her concerns to Master Gai, who again could unfortunately not afford to let himself became readable or emotive as he listened to the girl’s words…
He listened carefully to her words, knowing there was not much he could say in their current state, but that there might be more to speak on later. As the Germanic girl continued speaking, however, Master Gai did smile lightly, her resolve shining through. Perhaps there was more he could do after all. ”You want to get stronger, Eli-tan~?” He hummed, just loud enough for Elise to hear. ”You just had to ask~” The foreigner had something planned… Not a solution, but the beginnings of one. However, no time to elaborate, as the Grandmaster finally broke his silence.
”These are… Troubling developments, to say the least.” He uttered harshly, the weight of his words comparable to that of an executioner’s ax… ”Tetsuko, Master Ueno has already made clear the disgrace you have brought to our blood. To Jikishinkage-ryu itself. The media’s vultures will feast, that is already inevitable… There is no justification for the damage your weakness has wrought on our honour.” Yet, in spite of his harshness, it would be difficult to say that Ryouchi Shindou was at all ‘angry’. The old man was… Calm, decisive and firm. With just a hint of genuine care in his voice. ”Punishing you for this is not our intention. There will, however, be… Reassessments. Evaluations will be undertaken, measures performed to hone your dulled blade.” His words were vague, it seemed. The sentencing would have to wait, for now, the grandmaster turned his eyes to the court, in search of closing statements. ”My Council, what more do you have to say?”
It was Master Ueno who spoke up first, gathering his documents and re-adjusting his spectacles. ”I believe I have said all that was necessary. Tetsuko-sama’s progress is our primary concern, to hear and witness it stagnating, even moving backwards… Is as much our own failure as masters. We must be vigilant and watchful, henceforth, in observing her training. In ensuring there are no more distractions.”
His words rang true for Tetsuko, who knew what disgrace and dishonour she had already wrought. That was why… She acted as she had. To uphold her responsibilities, her duty to protect the school, the city, and the past that as so intrinsically tied to it. It was because of these duties… That Tetsuko was beginning to doubt her high school life.
”We cannot give as clear a judgement as the other masters, we’re afraid…” The twins spoke up next, taking it in turns as usual. ”Being the youngest upon this council, we have not seen her training in full.” They nodded, unreadable as ever. ”Yet, we agree with Master Ueno. If we have doubts, it is reasonable to do what we can to quell our fears.” The pair did not glance once at each other during what sounded almost like a pre-rehearsed speech. ”Tetsuko-sama has always seemed strong to us, but it is true her duties require even greater strength. We should make sure she achieves it.” The masters bowed their heads, concluding their speech. ”Such is our duty.. as masters of this council.”
The Shindou girl, as usual, didn’t know what to make of the enigmatic twins. It was hard to ever know what they were thinking, so Tetsuko really wasn’t sure how to feel about their testimony… It did mostly seem fair enough, however. Naturally, the next to speak was Uwabami, as Gai saved his plot for last among the masters.
”I ain’t really good for all this deliberatin’, but I’ll say it seems real simple to me.” Uwabami huffed, scratching the back of her head with her lone arm. ”Tetsuko-sama ain’t strong enough. From what the German gal said, she still kicked some ass, but not as much as we’re hopin’. Easy fix. Train her harder. The U.A. shit seems to be alright, we just gotta put her through the ringer out ‘ere. I dunno about that ‘removin’ distractions’ shit. Don’ gotta make this more complicated ‘an it needs ta’ be.” The scarred master was definitely odd, perhaps not quite as odd as the twins, but she still served to show just how atypical this council was.
Tetsuko, usually not fond of Uwabami’s antics, found little surprising about what she’d said… However, before the Shindou girl could think more on it, her attention was instead drawn by the words of a certain foreigner, who grinned as he made one last attempt to save his hand.
”Well, I won’t repeat what the other masters have already said. We need to address the issue, and we already intended to with her arrival in Kashima. I just have one, itsy bitsy request~” Now or never. ”You see, I would like more chances to show you the strength of those bonds Tetsuko-sama has been forging… I would like her to have a certain training partner when under my supervision~” A simple gesture to the girl behind him made things clear… And Gai only grinned wider as Ueno glared at him. Tetsuko did the same, a fury growing within her at the foreigner’s decision.
”Tetsuko-sama’s actions were to ensure Elise von Eisenberg’s survival. It worked in that regard, so~” He shrugged, looking sly as a fox. ”I’d like the chance to show you why that was the right choice~ We can benefit from what happened. We can turn her weakness in that decision… Into the birth of a new warrior~” It might have seemed hopeless before, but it seemed like there was a new hope for the young Germanic lass! ”Would you be so merciful to allow that, Grandmaster?”
One last turnaround, one last turnabout… It looked like Master Gai might yet pull out some victories for the girls!
”…” Ryouichi Shindou was silent, the hall was tense once again… Until their last hope shined through. ”Your methods have always been experimental, Master Gai.” The old grandmaster huffed. ”… You will train with them tomorrow. The results will be assessed. If Elise von Eisenberg proves a mere distraction… It will not be allowed to continue. If not…” A miniscule hint of softening was seen as Ryouichi Shindou glanced at Elise, before sitting firm before the hall.
”Then I will entrust their training to your methods. As I trust all of this council to train Tetsuko in the coming days. Our further judgement shall come later, after deliberation… For now… You are dismissed.”
Not a perfect win. But it was looking like there might yet be a shot at this hope they desired!

In the end, even if they had done all they could do in this dire situation, Elise couldn't help but wonder if it was good enough. Even if her help had been invaluable for the first charge, destroying Master Ueno's assertions with her own testimony and that fire that allowed the burgundy-haired lass to rage through that which stood in front of her path. Yet, if there was one thing she learned today, then it was that not every fight, no matter how well fought, could end in a victory. Master Ueno was clearly not going to allow her words to go unchallenged, it seemed, as he struck at her statement with a near surgical prcession, but it was futile when her dagger faced the trained sword of a master. If she had tried to be a princess' dagger coming to the aid of an unarmed knight against this swordsman, well the situation now seemed to show the girls just exactly why those masters were to be feared, for Elise's retaliation had been brutally dismantled, and her weapon sliced in twain...
The iron-blooded girl remaiend silent, as if she was in a grim manner content with the situation's outcome. It was clear that Tetsuko considered it her burden to bear, a burden that was so painful and yet seemed to be a decision she had no choice in, but to carry what was her duty. The enteriety of the hall had gone silent, awaiting the decision of Tetsuko's grandfather, the verdict which would pass judgement upon Tetsuko. This paused had given Elise the chance to speak, her whispers of concern reaching Master Gain, and yet his expression did not show a single opening for the other masters to read or exploit.
Heartfelt words were spoken, the knowledge that there was not much that they could say or do in their current state, yet perhaps more to discuss later, and yet the Germanic lass her remaining words seemed to stir a subtle reaction from the foreigner. A slight smile, in response to her resolve. When he hummed those words just loud enough for her to hear Elise nodded her head firmly. Of course, when he said that she had only needed to ask the girl blinked in confusion, unsure of what to expect or imagine, but it was clear he had no time to elaborate as the Grandmaster finally addressed the court.
He commented on how those were troubling developments to say the least, the harsh tone and the weight they carried being like a executioner's ax. When he commented how Tetsuko had brought disgrace upon her family, upon their blood and the school Elise knew she couldn't speak, not now after all she had tried. But was it enough? Were her efforts to reach Tetsuko and save her enough? He explained how punishing her was not their intention, but that reassessments would be made, evaulations which would be undertaken and measures performed to hone Tetsuko's dulled blade. And then came the moment he inquired about the opinion of his council.
Master Ueno spoke first, and by now Elise could already feel a displeasure just hearing the man's words. The harsh tone, his earlier actions had clearly not earned him any favors from Elise who just stared quietly at him, her expression calm yet
The twins their comments of course were as confusing as they were curious, not sure what to make of their testimony, and when Uwabami spoke it became clear that at least she might had earned a positive opinion from one of the masters, the scarred master's words making her unsure of what to think, although it continued to lit something within her heart, something which was waiting to burst. Master Gai spoke up, saying he felt no need to repeat what the other masters had said so far, that the matter needed to be addressed, but to everyone's surprise he had one small request. He explained his desire to have another chance to show she strength of the bonds Tetsuko had been forging, and requested the presence of a training partner while under his supervision. A simple gesture was made toward her, a gesture which made Elise finally realize Gai's masterplan, the master's grin only growing wider as both Ueno and Tetsuko glared at him, but it was there that Elise stared back straight into Tetsuko's own expression.
A resolute look, one of determination, she was weak, it was true, she wasn't a warrior like Tetsuko but if she couldn't save the iron-blooded girl, then at the very least she would help carry her burden! Gai explained further that Tetsuko's actions that they were made to ensure Elsie's survival, a attempt which worked in that regard, and so the foreigner wanted a chance to show why it was the right choice. They could possibly benefit from what happened, turn Tetsuko's weakness in that decision into the birth of a new warrior, one whose loyalty was with the knight she had adored all those days. A new hope shined through as Elise's gaze settled onto the Grandmaster, awaiting his verdict.
One last turnabout, one which might jsut pull out some form of victory. Silence lingered in the air, Ryouchi Shindou's expression unreadable as the hall grew tense once more when the man spoke, commenting how the Foreigner's methods had always been quite experimental in nature.
Elise listened carefully to every word, Master Ryouichi's words resounding through the hall as he voiced the decision that the man would train with both of them tomorrow, the results would be assessed and if she proved to be a mere distraction... no, she was not going to be a distraction, she had vowed that before, and would vow for it again as often as needed. They were dismissed, and turning to look toward Gai for council she waited for the man to show her what had to be done next. If they had left the hall and were on their own again, it would be made clear just how intense the pressure on the poor Germanic lass had been, for her legs trembled lightly and if nobody was swift enough to keep her upright, she would no doubt be landing flat on her butt as the moistness in her eyes returned.
"I... I..." There was so much she wanted to say, so much to apologize for but it seemed right now she had been a little overwhelmed by the events.

Post by Tetsuko Shindou on Dec 20, 2018 7:46:33 GMT -4
A deep-set rage was boiling within Tetsuko, growing by the moment as it seemed even her attempts to do the right thing, to abandon her bonds in favour of the strength to protect the past, were being impeded by others. All Tetsuko wanted to do was be strong enough to hold onto the memories she held dear, to no longer force Elise to stand beside a useless knight, to let her be happy… To let Tetsuko do what she deeply believed needed to be done. The snow was falling, the cold was coming, and Tetsuko believed that to fight against that was utter foolishness… Why would they not allow her to let her responsibilities come, why would they not let her walk into the cold, abandon this broken and foolish hope… And shield the peace of her past until the day she faded away, honourably, doing right by her family… These were perhaps foolish questions themselves, the deranged ramblings of a mind long since addled, yet to Tetsuko, they were all entirely valid things to ask. That was the state of the pressure upon her. When Elise looked her way, Tetsuko diverted her gaze, unable to look the Germanic girl in the eyes. Despite all her meddling in Tetsu’s plans, her desires to shackle herself and herself alone with her own burdens, Tetsuko could not find herself being angry with Elise. Frustrated, of course… The fault for Elise being this way, the fault for Elise continuing to think it was right to fight on for Tetsuko… That was, however, the swordswoman’s own fault. For not being clearer, for not explaining things as well as should have… For being too much of a coward, even now. That rage within Tetsuko? It was only going one way. Inward. Tetsuko Shindou was starting to truly hate herself for what she’d done. The young swordswoman new, however, that her Grandfather’s words were final… His voicing of approval for the idea, at least once it had been first tested, eliminated any chance Tetsuko had of protesting. Elise would be trained, whether she liked it or not… The passive Elise, the medic that Tetsuko had known, was fading into the past, whether she liked it or not… This change once again brought up such conflict within Tetsuko, such despair for uncertainties that came with changing times. The Shindou girl didn’t know what she was going to do with this training… All Tetsuko knew was that this couldn’t go on… Yet… If that was so… Why did Tetsuko feel as though that snowy landscape now had an additional entity? A distant light… A light that had arisen… Just when Tetsuko saw Elise’s resolve. The Shindou girl pushed from her mind, reminding herself… That to allow Elise to hang on now would just be selfish. To allow Elise to continue clinging onto a useless knight… Was selfish… Even if that knight… Still wished to cling onto her. Tetsuko took a few moments to push these encroaching thoughts from her head, before Ryouichi dismissed all those present. The masters and Tetsuko all stood from their places and bowed towards Ryouchi as he exited the room, their trial concluded… Or at least, today’s proceedings were. The full sentencing would be decided later, it seemed… Likely something Tetsuko would suffer over time. The Taniguchis were the first to leave, neither of them saying a word to each other as they marched off with a certain intent in their stride. As though right now… They had something they needed to do, together. Something that they’d be planning to do for a long time now… The game had only just been released, after all. As Elise stood up, on the verge of collapsing, Master Gai would be the first to notice, seeing as he was the closest to the girl. However, before he could reach out a hand to steady her, Elise would feel a powerful force on her shoulder that practically locked her in place, a hearty greeting from Master Uwabami herself. ”You should come to these more often, if yer gonna continue havin’ Four-Eyes look that pissed!” Though powerful woman laughed heartily, finally releasing her gorilla-like grip from Elise’s shoulder. ”He looked like he was gonna pop a vein… Too good…” Uwabami grinned widely, her smile fading as someone interjected… ”I’m still here, you know…” Ueno said, unamused yet undeterring. ”Anyways, ya got fuckin’… Moxy. Girl, if yer trainin’ with Whitey don’ work out, I can show ya some ruthless shit for yer arsenal. Jus’ don’ go cryin’ or anythin’, not in my class.” Uwabami huffed, before heading out of the hall. ”Later.” It seemed, whether she liked it or not, Tetsuko had earned the respect of Kashima’s roughest master… ”She’s fun, isn’t she~” Master Gai hummed, his serious demeanour quickly fading, his wisdom remaining. He placed a hand on Elise’s shoulder, not nearly as powerful as Uwabami’s, to make sure the young girl didn’t collapse. Tetsuko just sighed at the events before her, coming to hate just how inevitable this was… That Elise would try to follow her down the path that was only for Tetsuko’s responsibilities. Her internal turmoil was distracted yet again, as Ueno beckoned her over. ”Come, Tetsuko-sama. I believe you’re scheduled to train with me until nightfall, yes?” It seemed the Shindou girl already had plans… Tetsuko nodded to Ueno following him along and out of the hall… Glancing briefly at Elise and Gai. A glance full of pain, uncertainty and… Perhaps, just a hint of longing. ”Come, no training for you, Eli-tan! You need some rest~” Master Gai proclaimed, beginning to guide Elise out of the hall and into the connected rooms. ”You can have one of the guest rooms for now~” It would be a decent walk from the main training hall to the school’s limited lodgings, and throughout it, the sheer… Japanese-ness of the place would be more and more evident. Particularly from the woodblock paintings throughout. One of which… Was of particular beauty. It depicted a young woman in snowfall, umbrella over head, wilting tree behind her… A basket on her back, glancing away from where she was going… ”Shotei’s Spring Snow. Pretty, isn’t it~” Gai would hum idly as he guided Elise towards the sleeping quarters, where soft futons await. ”You know, you did pretty well, if that was the first time you experienced the bossman’s presence~” Master Gai mused, as he gestured toward a nearby futon for Elise. ”Some men have broken down into sobs, or soiled themselves, just from his… Aura…” The foreigner said, a curious smile on his face. ”Anyway, we’ll likely be in the eatery later, if you wanna get something to eat after your rest~ For now, sleep tight, my key witness~”
