Mia rolled her eyes as Nene gave her more than the one word. Okay she’d emphasized the YEAH but she’d still went on to explain herself. Mia gave a playfully dramatic sigh, pulling her arms off the form she’d been looking over and scribbling her name across the bottom with a light smirk on her lips, the name having a harsher, more solid look to it than the usual cursive nature that signatures could come with. Nene could probably notice the way Mia decorated the ‘N’ of her hero name like the last line was a horn, making it look more like an autograph than an official signature. She also signed her real name, Mia Kearney, on a line below, before spinning the paper around so Nene could finally see it.
“This, is a letter of recommendation. We get like, 5 a year as standard. We can put our name on the line and recommend any kid with a quirk we like to get into one of the hero schools. You sign your name here.” She tapped the line underneath her two signatures. “And kid, you’re basically in.” She offered a warm smile, and before Nene could sign, she offered the chance to explain this gesture as she leaned across the desk.
“Look I’ve never done this before, so maybe I should be thinking this through more but…I know some kids at UA. It is a great place if it churns out people like them. Jaz, Maxi, Kanna. 3 great kids who all got a spunk to them that makes them real heroes. Now I ain’t gonna lie, they all got good quirks too, and right now I don’t exactly know what your quirk could do for you as a hero. BUT.” She rested her elbows on the desk and leaned over with an encouraging smile. “I know for sure that its unique. It’s amazing for that alone. UA, as far as I know it, is a place yer gonna love. No ones gonna pick on ya for your quirk, you’ll make friends, and if anyone tries to come after you again, I’ll feel good knowing you got a kid with explosive hands, a kid with Ice powers, and a kid who can control anything with electricity running through it, lookin’ out for ya. Heck, that’s only the three I know too…”
She dipped her head to the paper and offered a brighter smile. “You sign that, show up at UA, they’ll give me a call, and kid, you’re basically in.” She was pretty sure there was a brief physical examination to ensure students could keep up, but Nene, not to be rude, looked like she was in pretty fit shape from what little Mia had seen. “So kid, do me a favour and sign that yeah? It’d put my mind at ease knowing you’re somewhere a quirk like yours can be appreciated, rather than spat upon and stomped over. “…Mia wanted to articulate how much of herself she was seeing in how Nene was treated. Breathing softly through her nose but unable to reduce her energy enough to get the words out with sincerity. While she’d done fine, using her strength to become a vigilante…she also wished she might have been somewhere where she didn’t have to rely just on herself so much, somewhere like UA…her old Mentor Hughard was a great teacher, but UA was somewhere Nene could probably feel a lot more at home than the rest of the world would let her be.
“I know you…wanna go anyway but…” She took a slow breath, calmed herself down, and showed some genuine sincerity. “Sign it for me kid. Get in the front door, and show everyone, zombie or not, you’re a hero…and not just whatever they get to say you are.”
