Mia’s brow furrowed a fair bit as Eli recanted the tale of his parents. If they could even be called that. Mia’s fist tightened in her folded arms, her tusks briefly growing before she furrowed her brow further, forcing herself to calm down and release her tightened fist. Mia knew she had it well off in some ways more than others. While she was always bullied for her mutations, her family were all quirkers like her, all with similar mutations in that they were all based off mythical creatures. It meant Mia never had to deal with what Eli had gone through…but hearing people like that existed, who could ‘fob off’ their own child…she growled under her breath.
“Ah just….” She wanted to offer the advice actually forefront of her mind. Kick the shit out of them. It was the strongest idea in her head and one she hated. She knew it was wrong and even if her own parents had behaved like that…she might disown them but she’d never hurt them. Instead she offered something a little better, leaning back, and recalling some important words as she calmed down. “…My old mentor once told me…big, beefy man…helped me focus my rage when I first started being a vigilante…anyway he er…he once told me the best revenge is a life well lived…” She glanced up to Eli, then back to the table. “Dunno if you hate your parents for that kid, but to put those words in English…being a great hero is the best way to rub it in their face.” She scoffed a little, half joking but not lingering on it either way.
She knew her story went on for a bit long and smirked a little nervously as a quiet apology. “Maybe kid, maybe…but I dunno. I’ve been in a few positions like it, pushing myself to the limit, but it just ain’t happened for me again. I’m wondering if the multiply guy accidentally multiplied the wrong thing in me at the wrong time but…ah I dunno. Maybe one day I can pull that off again. Though I’ll feel sorry for whoever’s on the receiving end of the punch!~”
Relaxing a little more, she took in the question she forgot and tipped her chin back before giving a simple answer. “…No.” She lowered her head to give a longer explanation. “It can look like that sometimes, having this unique skill a lot of people naturally learn how to use it. A whole chicken or the egg thing, only im definitely betting on the chicken. A quirk just…happens. I easily coulda been my brother. Scaley wings, spikes, breathing fire, but no. I got muscles, tough skin, height in spades to the point I need to duck under some doorways…” She smiled. “People get quirks pretty much randomly…people are born pretty much randomly…its up to us what we do with the life, and quirks we’re given.” She smirked a little wider. “Good to see you’re putting your own random gift to good use.”

Mia's advice helped a lot, Eli knew his parents still cared in their own way. He was more frustrated that the world was the way that it was. Like why couldn't his parents come with him? Why did he even have to leave just because he had a quirk? It was all just excuses to continue discriminating people with quirks, it didn't matter how much Eli wanted it to change. The world was the way it was and without a significant number of people wanting to change it, not a thing would change. Still, Mia's advice put a smile on his face, he initially wanted to be a pro to spite his parents, but more recently he had started to understand why they did it, he didn't hate them, just the world they were forced to follow the rules of. As Red Horn finished her statement on the matter, Eli explained his feelings to the pro, "It's not exactly that I hate my parents, don't get me wrong I never would've done what they did to me, but I do understand why they would. At the time I was around six years old, and at that point if people knew you had a quirk in that town, well lets just say you wouldn't have a happy life. Plus I think they somehow knew that I would grow up to be a hero or something of the matter ans as great as America is, heroes aren't as frequent there for obvious reasons. Even when it was vigilantes and not heroes they weren't. So I can understand the thinking behind why. It's more like I'm mad at the world we live in for being this way. I think it'll eventually change but...for now I can't stand it." Eli didn't usually pour out his feelings, but this was a pro hero. It wasn't like she would tell everyone or put it in an article.
Mia not having any similar things happened was pretty curious. Quirks were still really mysterious, some only had a huge moment once and then never again. Some decided to have a big moment and then keep it. There were many things that factored into it all, Eli was no scientist so he could only nod at Mias comments.
Her answer to his final question surprised him a little, it was understandable though. Most people would say yea sure just to make themselves feel special, but Mia disagreed. Her view on it matched Eli's perfectly, in his opinion, it was more of a 'you make with what you get' situation. Eli gave her an agreeing look and replied, "I agree completely. It's a lot like you're playing a card game, each person gets a random hand right?" He paused, making a set of five cards on the table, "The hand you get is like your quirk. You use it to the best you possibly can and given the right situation, you can win the game. You could get a royal flush, but even that can have a tie at least. There's no sure way to win or lose, it's all in the luck of the draw and how you choose to play." He turned over the five cards to reveal a royal flush. "And I definitely got luck on my side." Eli shot Mia an amazing smile, you never would have guessed that the delinquent had almost been mugged earlier that day. He smirked even more at the compliment, "That's right you're future Diamond Knight in shining armor!" He looked down at his empty tray of food, where had it all gone during their conversation? "Well that's all my questions and my trays done so any other words of encouragement you got for me?"

“Sorry if I assumed too much their kid. I didn’t think you did, even when they’re assholes it’s always hard to find real hate for the people who brought you up but…with no mean to upset or offend yourself. I do hate your parents. Maybe you don’t but I certainly do after what little I’ve already heard about them. I will never understand what it’s like to be a quirkless parent with a quirk gifted child, no one in my family will ever understand that sensation, but by god do I genuinely wanna punch a parent who would do that to their kid. Just ship them off like an unwanted amazon product.” She rubbed her head and sighed. “Sorry, sorry. Rant over. Don’t meant to shit on your parents just…yeah.”
Rubbing her forehead she glanced to Eli as he tried to lightly describe his upbringing, and how in that area at that age, he wouldn’t have done well with a quirk, scoffing a little as she leaned over the eating surface before them and pointed with both hands to her massive red horn. “I had this, I was bigger than most kids, had muscles NO child should have, tusks, red, slitted eyes, and I was not exactly a ‘holy child’ in terms of personality. Oh. And I lived in one Texas, a pretty religious state all things considered. Least you had the choice to use your quirk or not…” She smirked and shook her head. “I mean I never woulda hid mine but…ya had the choice kid…I don’t doubt you think, or maybe your parents actually DID have good intentions with what they did…but I’m just not gonna see it. It ain’t in me, with the stuff I’ve went through, to see the good in an action like that…but good for you if you can. Maybe I’m a pessimist when it comes to how people treat quirks or maybe I’ve just seen too much of reality…but I ain’t gonna push it if that’s what you wanna see out of what your parents did. Hopefully you’re still in contact with ‘em? You’d probably have a much better idea of what they were thinking than I did in that case…”
Rubbing her face a little as she tried to shake off the downer subject, she lifted her head as their food was brought over and slowly licked her lips, pulling the plate towards her eagerly and readily going for the meatier burgers on her plate and lifting them to her maw, digging in happily with one hand as she squeezed BBQ sauce over her fries with the other hand, glancing to Eli as he reacted to her words on quirks.
“Good to see I ain’t alone on my views there kid. Ever since I’ve become a hero I worry a bit my blunt honesty could lose me a few fans, but hey. I’d rather be honest about my views than lie just to inspire some kid? Especially when I could upset so many others who think their quirks are worthless.” Grabbing some fries, getting the freely squirted source over her fingers and licking them clean, she continued. “You put it into some good words though I’ll give you that. Also gotta remember who’s holding the hand…a trash hand can be golden if you’re poker face is good, and a royal flush can be useless if your poker face is bad.” She smirked as he seemed to view his quirk as one of the good hands, and she couldn’t disagree. Even thinking all quirks were ‘good hands’, Eli’s was one of the better ones.
Finishing off her own food pretty fast despite the mountain there was to work with, she licked the sauce off her hands and smirked a little. “Nah kid, I think you got most of it outta me. Just er…” She shifted and offered a warm smile as she pulled one last inspirational phrase out. “Remember you’re aiming for a hero…and as great as it is to be the best, and I damn sure hope you’ve got the drive to aim for it, always remember that being decent, and saving lives, is what’s gonna be important. Not half decent, not semi decent, not three fourths decent. Just simply decent…I ain’t gonna accept you as a hero in 3 years time if I can’t consider you at LEAST decent as a hero. Got that?”

Eli understood everything Mia said, there was definitely reasonable cause to hate his parents. Eli always found it hard not to, but he wanted to be the kind of hero that could forgive, and if he had a choice he would probably let them do it just because it made him who he is. Still, he wondered what his life would be like if he had stayed in the US. Whatever it was, he chose the hero path and that was what he would stick with.
"Oh no I completely understand. I hate that they made that decision, I just don't hate them, part of it might be because I want to be a hero that can forgive but not forget, but trust me I understand where you're coming from." Eli responded. At the question of contact...Eli slipped his phone out and looked at the only American number he had. It was his parents but, no phone calls, no messages, nothing for a whole three months. Last time they talked, he told them he was going to UA. They'd attempted to contact him since but he wanted some space. He needed to figure out what kind of hero he wanted to be, and seeing the reason for his not so great upbringing on his phone wasn't gonna help that. Eli slipped his phone back into his pocket and spoke back, "I have the ability to contact them yea." Eli kept his words short, Mia probably didn't wanna stay on such a dreary topic.
As she continued on Eli listened, no longer having much comment, simply nodding until her last few statements. "I'm good with being number two long as I'm behind someone that still upholds the ideals of a hero. If I was concerned about numbers I would be an accountant, not a hero. I'll also be way beyond half decent, if you're aiming for number one you gotta back it up, ya know? Anyways it was nice talking to you Ms. Red Horn, Thanks for saving me." As Eli finished his sentence he got up and threw his trash away. Then he left the restaurant. This meeting gave him a lot to think about. If there was anything he was sure of though, it was that being a hero meant far more than just fighting villains, he had to save people and make them know that everything would be okay. He couldn't wait.
