Maneuvering around in this environment, to put it simply, was not easy. Alex didn’t realize how much he relied on sight to be able to function before this, and how utterly helpless he was despite the fact he could use his quirk at will in this environment. He couldn’t create light, so he was stuck with his foot catching on every little pebble, rock, or bit of debris that was on the ground. It wasn’t the most fun experience in the world, and there was no way in hell that the delinquent would have ever gone into this hell hole by himself. One wrong step, and he was eating the hard ground underneath him and his rib injury would get aggravated more than it already was with his steadfast refusal to actually take time to recover.
When the white haired boy so blatantly said that Alex sucked at motivational speaking, a sharp exhale quickly followed by a cough was heard in the darkness behind him as a response from the American. ”Fair enough. I’m learning how to fight, not motivate gyms filled with kids.” he conceded easily, his voice audibly a bit short compared to previously. Like he cut off the syllables of words just a split second sooner than usual, letting go of his usual slight drawl for a sentence. After that, he just let Naoru talk and allowed himself to be led along through what seemed to be another fork in the road and avoiding yet more traps. It was a weird experience, to be essentially helpless and completely and utterly reliant on someone else for basic functions like walking around and your only purpose essentially being to distract them from their job at babysitting you. It was more than a little uncomfortable for Alex, who was used to taking initiative and charging forward at speed to be essentially trapped in the position of the follower with no ability to provide even minor aid to the person who was actually doing all the work. When he got his hero suit made, he made a mental note to see if Kanna or anyone else could install stuff like night vision into his helmet. That would alleviate a lot of the feelings of uselessness and would work out extremely well with his quirk being the control of darkness, essentially.
When his classmate talked about the first days at school and how terrified he was about the new experience, the delinquent just gently stated: ”You made impressions there, too, though. Aki adores you, for one. Bringing up you around her is like someone bringing up Darkshine around me.” his tone got lighter and more playful towards the end, fully acknowledging his own tendency to fanboy over Darkshine in public chats and in person at the slightest provocation. ”Speaking of, we might need a bit bigger of an area and some steel-reinforced walls if we’re to do another game night with our class.” a smile that threatened to break his face in two was on his face, fully hidden in the darkness but evident in the tone as he said that last bit. They really did do some damage to that hotel, though it wasn’t too excessive, and without the pillows to tire out the more excitable members of the class the damage that could be caused by the entire class 1-C could only be imagined in terms of level of major disaster.
At the point of the odd circumstance of one upping each other with praise, the American stayed silent for several moments before responding in a volume that was somewhat below his normal speaking tone: ”Is that really the worst thing, though?” he asked, tone markedly less authoritative than his usual norm. ”I think it makes uh, a better dynamic than being at each other’s throats and trying to out insult each other anyway.” there was a few more seconds of silence before he added, awkwardly: ”I get your point, though. I kinda suck at small talk too, though, especially cause,” there was a sudden pause as the audible sound of the American’s foot catching on something on the ground momentarily distracted him as he barely managed to maintain his balance and not fall over on the rock or whatever the hell that was. ”Of stuff like that. Uh, shit, where was I?” he asked, trailing off for a moment before remembering: ”Oh, yeah. You live off campus, right? So you’re from around this area? What kinda stuff do you do for fun and stuff? I guess that’s a good topic, right? Just go with that.”
It was funny how all of the bluster and arrogance faded away when the delinquent was no longer in the position of leadership and was essentially just along for the ride and had finally completely come to terms with and accepting that fact. He didn’t exactly have a lot of practice with this stuff, with most of the conversations he had being led along by the other more socially, uh, aware individual or at least the more enthusiastic and extroverted one. It was rare for him to have to be the driver in changing topics and things, doubly so when he really didn’t know where to start. The fact of the matter was, he didn’t know of a heck of a lot about Naoru.
He had some experiences with him, sure, and interacted with him in the past but those were all surface level and short. They had never had a proper one on one conversation until now, so the absence of the delinquent’s usual bluster made it very difficult for him to take leadership in this arena while being unable to do so in all others. It just felt… unnatural to him, somehow. With any luck, his classmate would take some of those open ended questions and run with it. Otherwise, they would just be two socially inept dorks bumping around and getting lost in the dark in a situation so awkward that you could slap the end result on TV and sell it as a comedy.
