While the training gym wasn't packed, there were still a number of students dotted around the facility. It was a massive building with a high, vaulted ceiling and the reason for that was obvious with every explosion, burst of fire, and flash of light that erupted around the room. A ceiling any lower would probably catch on fire from the more destructive quirks. Most of the students had paired up against each other, testing their mettle against their classmates. They were throwing themselves at each other with all the vim and vigor that children with superhuman powers could. A couple other students had faced off against training dummies that had been specially designed to resist all the quirks thrown at them. It was probably good for UA's budget not to have to replace dummies and punching bags constantly. A few teachers were scattered around supervising, but things were pretty under control right now.
Tucked away in one corner of the room was one student facing off against a training dummy. It was a pretty insignificant sight, so out of the way and miniscule compared to everyone else that it was pretty easy to overlook this one kid in the blue gym uniform and brown combat boots. He was going at the dummy with elbow strikes, kicks, and the typical punch, but that was it. He wasn't attacking with a quirk at all. No flashes of light, nothing showy or fancy. Nothing at all except the basic hand-to-hand combat training that the hero course taught.
Eventually, after a few good elbow strikes, Dax stopped and took a step back from the mock attacker. He was breathing heavy from the exertion and ran his fingers through his sweat-slicked hair. He had dropped his backpack against the wall and now went to it, collecting his water bottle. Turning, he pulled out the stopper and took a few, much-needed gulps as he watched the rest of the students train. Kids were flying through the air, flashes of energy erupting from the emitters, inhuman beasts from the transformers and mutants. Even ethereal creatures from the summoners, and here was Dax. Just being normal.
He couldn't help the twinge of jealousy sinking into him. He wanted nothing more than to be soaring up there with the rest of them. Where he could just act and not have to worry about proving he was right for the hero course. Not having the constant paranoia about being sent to the general studies course if he wasn't seen as a good enough hero. If he had something like they did, he wouldn't have to constantly prove that he was worth something.
Sighing, he tapped the stopper back into place and returned his water bottle to its previous spot. Thinking about hypotheticals and what-ifs wouldn't do anything for him. He just had to keep training and trust that there'd be a place for him that wasn't on the sidelines.
Taking a deep breath, Dax raised his fists and resumed his practicing.

*Thump* ... *PWAPP!* *thunk*
A loud smacking sound happened, turning the gym silent for a while. One of the dummy bags had been launched from one side to the other, ending up smashing into the wall before falling on the floor motionless like a sack of potatoes.
"...O-ops...Maybe I overcalculated. These things used to be heavier..." a voice mumbled in the silence as many eyes turned around towards the culprit of the act.
Shrinking down and waving his hand-paw at the teachers, the android muttered a soft little "Sorry!" chirp. If he had a mouth to speak he probably would have a sheepish smile on his lips.
Eventually, the gym would one again return to their usual drills, leaving the cat shaped robot to do his 'walk of shame' on his own. For the few that were following recent happenings, the silhouette was unmistakable as it walked past. Yusaku Izumi, third year B class and soon to be Pro Hero: Cybrex.
The android cat tip toed towards the more secluded part of the gym, past the emitters and past the guy just smacking a dummy all krav maga cqc style without any flashy powers. Kneeling down, Yusaku made sufe to not be interrupting anything else before picking up the dummy in his paws.
"Sorry Mr.Bubbles. I didn't expect my last training here to be this embarassing..." he mumbled. He still needed to calibrate his new strenght since his upgrade with his new body. That was exactly why he was there.

The sudden loud smacking noise only a dozen feet from him made Dax freeze and spin around to face it. Like everyone else in the room, he stopped to stare at the dummy and the armor-clad individual coming to claim it. Even in a school of Quirkers, the sight of the culprit of the noise was unusual. He was like something straight out of a sci fi movie; a high tech robot with the same consciousness and response times as a human. However, due to all the news coverage lately, Dax knew that this wasn't an artificial android, but rather the mutant hero Cybrex. Almost graduated, he had everything set up to be a rising star of heroism, with the successes of the sports festival and final exams raising him higher on the pedestal.
And the rising star of heroism just called the punching bag Mr. Bubbles.
The sheer unbelievability of it all caused Dax to let out a snort of laughter. It wasn't even a conscious decision, like his body wanted to express his opinion before his brain could step in and stop it. Dax probably shouldn't be laughing at one of the first students to be made an officially licensed hero by the school's standards, but it was just the shock of the contrast of it.
"Mr. Bubbles?" He's now fully paused in his training to look over at the cybernetic cat. It was kind of funny if you thought about it. One of the boys was a highly regarded student and recognized hero and just about to graduate to make an impact on the world. The other boy was scraping by on the skin of his teeth fighting off being moved into general studies with nothing going for him except the weapon he made himself. Hell, the former probably didn't even know the latter's name.

Yusaku turned over as he heard the kid next to him repeat what he just mumbled. He was a somewhat tall boy by the looks of it. Dark hair, didn't seem special at the first glace. That meant he would be either a transformer or an emitter. Yusaku shyly shuffled around, wagging his tail in embarassment. He never met this person before so he probably was a first year or a second year. He probably did not know the whole story behind the dummy in Yusaku's paws. God he really could never get used to the whole Senpai thing, even less to the whole graduation thing as well.
"W-well you see, it's kind of a long story..." Yusaku tried to explain but trailed off, worrying that he might put himself in even more shame than at current. He decided instead to shift the subject of the conversation. "Did I interrupt your training? I am so sorry. Thankfully I calculate the impact trajectory well. 12.34 degrees left and the dummy could have hit you."
Bowing at the other student, Yusaku hoped his presence did not cause any more trouble. "But don't let me keep you from your drills. I'll go set Mr.B-the dummy back in its place!"

It was a long story. It was always a long story, probably one of the oldest and easiest excuses out there. Dax simply shrugged, casually putting his hands on his hips. "I got time," he wasn't really that into training anymore anyway. Practicing hand-to-hand combat was all fine and good, but he was starting to get self-conscious with how many powerhouses were around him. Not that he'd ever emit that though. The mention of calculated impact trajectory just made Dax laugh again. "Thanks, that makes me feel so much better." He said, slightly sarcastically as the gawking crowd started to disperse and go back to their own training and sparring.
He waved off the other student's bow. "No, you're fine. It wasn't anything important." Was that being a little too modest? Maybe, but in a lot of ways it was the reality of the situation. What's the use of fighting with fists when people could literally blow you up or send you flying? Dax was bringing fists to a gun fight, so while he was training, it did feel a little superficial. Pointless. "I was just finishing up anyway."
Turning away from the cyber-cat, he went over to his bag and picked it up, slinging it over his shoulder. He wasn't going to leave just yet though. It was actually a dream talking to Cybrex. Besides his renowned hero work even as a sidekick, Dax was interested in his form itself. His work with mechanical engineering and inventing started with cars, and then he built his sniper rifle, but he was always intrigued with robots. Especially complex intelligence and programming, and the student before him was a prime example of that. Even if it was just a mutation Quirk - and Mutants could be pretty much anything - there weren't a lot of robots running around. "I'm actually surprised you calculated it to not hit me. I think you're the only person who realized I'm over here." He waves his hand towards the rest of the busy gym. He had been well-ignored in his little corner.

"Bubbles here has been in servce for a while, we call him that because during one of the training sessions a few years back a guy with a bubble quirk knocked himself out after said bubble ricochet against this dummy and smacked him in the face." Yusaku would explain, not really surprised that the guy before him was not aware of the name but curious whyhe wanted to know about that of all things.
"Oh, well. My scanner suite pretty much picked up all of the heat signatures of everyone around me. I made sure to not interrupt anybody in the case I punched things a little too hard." He would add, a little weirded out by the fact that the guy before him though he was going to hit him.
Looking around the gym, the cat robot chuckled. "Well people here are always busy with things. It's quite funny how unaware they can look. I had a friend hide inside by body for a while just to test it. Took people a whole day to notice she was missing and my quirk had something to do with it."
Setting down the dummy in its place, he turned his attention to the boy gathering his things. "What about you? What's your superpower?"

Dax nods along as he listens to the robotic student explain where the name Mr. Bubbles came from. He gave a little chuckle, kind of wanting to see the look on the poor sap's face who got wrecked by his own Quirk. That was probably the only thing Dax was lucky with compared to everyone else; no possible chance of it backfiring like that.
Dax got really curious when he started talking about heat detectors and he started wondering just how many tricks and gadgets this guy had built into all that armor. For a hero costume, it was pretty elaborate. However, it would be pretty rude to just immediately start asking about all those little intricacies when he just met the guy. So all he did was nod in response, but that was quickly replaced by mild confusion at what this guy said next. He had a friend...hide inside his body? How did that even work? Dax knew a lot of weird quirks existed in this world, but he had never heard about anything like that. The confusion and sheer bizarreness he felt was probably very visible on his face.
And there it was. The question he had been dreading, he always was dreading. Asking about his Quirk instead of his name, how typical. Really showed how people cared more about someone's ability than who they actually were as a person. Quirks hadn't really been around for that long, appearing within his own parents' lifetime, but he still felt like no one would know how to function or cope without their precious special abilities. Dax? Well, Dax would be just fine without them.
"Nothing special." He answered, a coldness coming into his voice. Adjusting his bag, he brushed past Yusaku and began heading for the change rooms. "My name's Dax, by the way." If he even cared.
He got a few feet away from Yusaku before he suddenly got a chill that rocketed straight down his spine. Every muscle and nerve of his being told him to move. He dropped to the ground and tucked himself into a roll just as a massive chunk of rocks from a wayward Quirk slammed into the wall next to him. He let out a long breath, adrenaline jumping into his system as a few students started to run over and ask if he was okay. He stood up and shrugged, knowing how close that rock was to crushing him, but not wanting to make a big deal about it. "Yeah I'm fine. It's no big deal, really."

Yusaku didn't know why the guy before him was reacting the way he was, but one thing he could point out. As usual, people were confused about him. A tale as old as time. He would need to explain himself to others again and again. "I'm a robot through and through." He stated, tapping his chest. "I'm a robotic suit of armor. I can give my powers to others by letting them wear me." He would add soon after so that the whole 'Inside' thing was cleared out.
He was about to question the guy's dismissive answer on his quirk when his proximity sensor blared. He was about to wrap himself around the boy to protect him from flying debris but the other student was quick on his feet and dodged the thing by dropping on the ground. The chunk coming at Yusaku would be easily punched in two and end up smacking into the wall behind them.
"So...danger sense." Yusaku quipped, turning back to look at the rubble he smashed out of his way. "Nifty I dare say. Pretty cool too."
A pause.
"Perhaps we should be going someplace else if we wanna keep talking, before someone else gets the idea of throwing some other things at us. I think I know just the place too." Yusaku wagged his long tail and clapped his paw hands together. "Wanna go hang out on the roof? It's pretty secluded so we can have privacy."

Dax pushed through the small crowd of worried students. "I told you I'm fine." It came out a little snappy, they were only worried for his safety, but Dax didn't need their pity. As he made his way to the doors, he reached into his bag and pulled out a pair of brown leather gloves. He slipped them on, which looked a bit weird with the short sleeves of his gym uniform, but he didn't really care. When he reached the doors to the change rooms, he suddenly stopped. He looked over his shoulder, olive eyes searching out Yusaku. Once eye contact - would it still be called eye contact if one of them didn't technically have eyes? - was made, Dax gestured with his head in a 'come here' motion before turning away from the change rooms and pushing through the door that led to the roof.
He didn't look back to make sure the robot was following him. He just took the three flights of stairs up, shouldering open the door at the top and letting the cool breeze brush against his face. The sweat from his workout would be dried off in no time. He walked forward, dropping his bag on the ground as he approached the edge of the roof. He lifted one arm to rest his head on his forearm, using that as a support as he leaned forward on the chainlink fence that ran around the edge of the roof. That in itself was hilariously ironic. A school full of superhumans, and they still need to put a fence around the roof for safety purposes.
There, he would just wait until his cyborg little friend came up to continue their conversation.

Yusaku would trail close behind the other student towards the roof, where they would have a little more privacy and less risk of being smacked. No one really went there, so they would have all the time in the world to chill and talk about things.
Tip tapping his way up the three flights of stairs needed to reach his destinantion, the robotic cat would quietly keep the door open with one of his big paws as he walked in behind Dax. He watched the guy drop his bag and walk over to the fence. There was something weird in him. He couldn't get what it was, but it was like the boy before him was keeping something bottled up.
"Uuuh...so yeah. As I was saying. I am a sentient nanosuit. I can wrap myself around people and give them my powers." He repeated what he said earlier before the interruption. "I saw you dodge that projectile pretty well. Your power is quite cool too..."
Yusaku didn't really know how to make a good conversation, especially with someone he knew a little about. "...if you want, I can show you how my power works too. I just need you to take off your shoes though." He offered after he had enough of the awkward silence that had formed. He was trying to break the ice in some way and keep the convesation going, but maybe the guy before him didn't want to talk about quirk?
"You...you okay yeah?"

He heard the other coming up behind him, a little surprised that his big metal feet didn't thump up the stairs. A sentient nanosuit who can give his powers to other people. "That's pretty cool," he said, not turning around from the fence. That'd be helpful, getting some borrowed powers for a time. At least then he'd feel like a real hero and not some fake who belongs in the Support course.
When he brought up Dax's own power, calling it cool, he let out a small, humorless laugh. "No it's not," he turned around from the fence to face the other. "My Danger Sense is the only ability I have that can actually help with hero work, but I can't just dodge my way through a villain. Everything else? Pretty useless."
He let out a heavy sigh, leaning back against the fence and crossing his arms over his chest. "I'm a psychic. I can open short-range communication between thoughts and I can project my mind out of my body to scout the area." He didn't tell Yusaku about his last ability. His energy draining. Having the power to kill someone right at your fingertips...he didn't want to be even more of a monster. Really good for intel and recon, but I don't want to be stuck doing that for all the real heroes to sweep through after and get the glory. I want to fight, I want to be a real hero, I want to make a difference, I want to save lives. But life gave me the short end of the stick and now I'm stuck with a useless Quirk that doomed me to a life of Support work."
"I should've been put into General Studies like the rest of the powerless weaklings, but I fought tooth and nail to be where I am. Even built my own support weapon so I could have some chance of fighting."
He sighed before settling a glare onto Yusaku. "But why are you even up here talking to me? Aren't you the famous hero Cybrex? Don't you have like, a villain to stop or children to save from a burning school? Why give someone like me the time of day?"

Oh...he was one of those kind of guys. Yusaku would have sighed if he had lungs and air to breathe. "Just because your quirk isn't inherently destructive doesn't mean you are weak. Some people are better at different things. If you train your mental powers you could become very strong." Yusaku replied, folding his arms on his chest.
"Support or General Studies is no less important. I myself have a support focused quirk, so I can tell you from experience. You ain't a hero because you have strong superpowers, you are a hero because you help people."
The catbot was taken aback by the sudden outburst. Why come all the way over here just to berate himself?
"Oh cut it out, you!" The android whined. "You make it sound like I am some sort of god emperor or something. I was considered just an object until a couple years ago and barely had basic human rights." He would add, hopping closer to the boy and using his paw to tap Dax's forehead. "I talk with who I want to and right now I'm talking to you, dummy. My offer is still valid too and you better drop this self deprecating attitude or I'll find a way to drop it for you."

Dax stiffened, his eyes widening a bit. This was the same tactic his mom used. Bringing up their own pain and grievances to diminish Dax's. He should be thankful, he should count his blessings, blah blah blah. His concerns and issues were nothing. Meaningless as he was. Yusaku didn't have basic human rights so he had it worse off right? His hands balled into fists. He had struck a nerve, maybe they struck a nerve with each other. "You don't know me." He hissed at him, putting a hand on his metallic chest and shoving him back. Not hard, not to make him stumble, just to get him out of his face. "You can't say you had it worse when you don't even know me. You didn't even ask for my name, all you cared about is my power. Cuz that's how this school judges worth."
He can feel his throat closing and he sidesteps the android, taking a few steps away so he wouldn't see the tears spring into his eyes, giving a little bit of a sniffle. This whole conversation reopened so many old wounds. He wasn't genuinely upset with Yusaku, he just needed a moment to cool off. Grabbing the collar of his uniform, he pulled it up to dry his eyes.
"Sorry..." He turned around, hands shoved into his pockets. His eyes were probably still a little red, but they weren't leaking anymore. "Just some old stuff came back up. I'm sorry for snapping at you." Not being considered a real person...barely having basic human rights. Maybe they're more alike than they seem. "I never got your name by the way. I...only know you as Cybrex."

Yusaku certainly didn't expect the guy to snap. He had probably been through some bad stuff too, judging by how he reacted. From the looks of it his power was also part of the problem. Yusaky took a couple of step back, kind of disagreeing on what the other was saying. He didn't ask his name because the boy already told him: Dax. He also asked about his auirk because...well...they were in a quirk school to learn to use quirks. He just...could see his old self in the guy and he didn't like it. He used to cry about his situation alot too.
"In hindsight...I probably shouldn't have poked at you this way without knowing you...true. From your reaction I assume you had it rough too...sorry." The robot said, ears and tail drooping a little. He didn't know what to do. Should he leave?
He was considering it when Dax turned around again from his sulking and asked for his name.
"It's Yusaku, though people call me Yu most of the time." He would reply, scratching his arm and looking to the side. "Maybe we should...try again." He mumbled soon afted.
"I'm Yusaku. Yusaku Izumi. It's...nice to meet you, Dax."

"Yusaku. I like it." He gave a small, slightly-sad chuckle. "Yeah we probably got off on the wrong foot. I'm sorry about that." He bowed. "Dax Maboroshi. Pleasure to meet you." He smiled as he straightened up. "If it's any consolation," it probably wasn't. "I don't see you as just an object. I mean I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious about how you...function. I'm kinda the engineering type. But you're a human being too."
He wondered why this guy was also so insistent on showing him his abilities. He knew students liked to show off but...he didn't know. "You do seem really insistent on showing off your ability so," he crouched down and started unlacing his heavy combat boots. "Why do I have to take off my shoes though?" He pulled off his boots, dropping them back onto the roof with a heavy thud from their soles. He straightened up, hands going back in his pockets. His gloves remained on and ever-present
