Jasmine huffed gruffly, sweat trailing down her brow as she squared up, her fists rising in front of her face as she got into a stance. Feet pointed forward, she ducked low and launched herself straight ahead. Bright azures took stock of the situation as she went in, brows furrowing as her body answered the call of her instincts, forcing her to back off just as a swipe from a metallic limb passed by her, inches away from her nose. She clicked her tongue with mild irritation, quickly pivoting on her foot before shooting off again.
Her tall frame rocketed towards the object of her current dismay -- a mechanized training dummy equipped with hard metal armor for defense, and four long arms for offense. One of its arms quickly lurched forward, the gears inside the metallic being's skull wheezing away, sending command after command into its internal processors. Jasmine predicted this and took the slightest of hops forward, further increasing her momentum. Her body strained as she once again ducked low the moment she touched the cold wooden tiles below, feet clad in nothing but white tape sliding across the floor, enabling her approach. Another metal fist launched forward, forcing the girl to strain as she spun with her momentum, her bare shoulder only narrowly grazed by the attack.
When the last arm came, Jasmine had had enough of it.
Her eyes flashed dangerously as she used her own weight to grab hold of the incoming attack and push it down, turning to every trick in the agility book to be able to twist her whole body around diagonally. One of her legs quickly rose in to the air, cocked back with dangerous intent. With a vicious roar Jasmine slammed it against the head of the training dummy, ripping it clearly off of its frame and sending it flying across the training room.
Jasmine herself grunted as she fell down onto the ground with her backside, a stinging sensation crawling up her spine. Her chest heaved up and down, pant after pant leaving her gaping mouth as she sprawled her limbs across the floor. Christ, how long had she been at this? She felt utterly exhausted. Judging by how sweaty she was, she didn't even need to check the large clock on the top of the opposite wall to know it'd likely been at least three hours since she started.
Well, if you didn't count the dozens upon dozens of destroyed training dummies scattered about everywhere.
The black-gold haired heroine-in-training snorted to herself with mild amusement as she forced herself back on her feet. Clad in training gear that consisted of black loose sweatpants and a golden sports bra, she had been itching to get some good ol sparring training in. Nobody was really available given that it was the weekend and so she was forced to resort to the training dummies... the destruction of which she was pretty sure the school was going to chew her out for.
For the past three or so days after she and Red Horn took down Muramasa Jasmine had been trying to tap into Perfect Phase Rush, yet every time she'd try all she managed to accomplish was the welcoming of a massive migraine making her want to gouge her own eyes out. Apparently the risk of trying to inwardly channel explosions was nerve damage... nerve damage that melted brain cells. Who would've ever figured, right?
She knew the remedy for it. Superlative focus. The type of focus that allowed Jasmine not just to reach her zone, but to go past it. When she used it in the fight against Muramasa, everything seem so... clear. Her senses and reaction times were so sharp it genuinely felt like time itself had slowed down around her while she remained as quick as she always was. It was an intense feeling she couldn't seem to be able to replicate for the life of her, no matter what she tried.
What in the world was she lacking?
Jasmine could only sigh as her mind trailed towards dozens of different possibilities, none of which she even remotely knew how to fix. Her wrapped up foot came down on the heads of one of the dismembered training dummies, kicking it across the room through a show of sheer irritation. With a hollow gruff the lass bent down and picked up her water bottle, taking a quick sip as she tried to reassess the situation.
She needed more training dummies.

S o much had happened for the young Angel in such a short amount of time! She had gotten her orphanage and youth center up and running, helped Ultra violet stop a drug trafficking ring, Helped Red Horn stop a chop shop operation and even helped saved the city from a zombie plague which almost cost her her very life. She even got engaged to the beautiful redeemed villain Miyami Kokuyo. On the outside everything seemed to be going great for the young hero, but sadly there was one event that put a damper on all of the good she had accomplished and that was her biggest failure as an upcoming hero. She had no choice, but to watch her youngest orphan fan Natsuko Watanabe die in her arms due to a quirk related medical complication. It was safe to say that the young hero hadn't gotten much sleep since the funeral for the young girl which had been held at the newly opened New Oasis where she was buried on the grounds by a commissioned statute of herself that looked as if she was waving at everyone who past into the front gate into the sanctuary for quirkless and quirker youths alike. The only thing Angel could really think to do despite how tired she was both mentally and emotionally was to get dressed in her primary hero suit and head out to the gym. Those she passed on the way there would see something that was extremely rare for the young Angel. That very rare thing? There was not even a single hint of a smile on her face. As she entered the gym training area the tired and rather depressed Angel spotted the hoard of robot bodies which had been smashed to bits and in the center Jasmine Noir which caused her to raise an eyebrow. "Someone's been a busy bee. Good thing the school has government funding for all of this busted equipment."Despite her attempt to make light of the situation around her Angel's voice came out sad, or maybe even a little depressed which wasn't like her one bit. After scanning the room, and looking back at Jasmine Angel did her absolute best to give the black and blonde haired her best smile though it was a struggle. "Would you like to spar against someone who can actually stand toe to toe with you at least for the most part. I could use the distraction. You do look a bit winded though, would you like to take a rest first?"

Arms up, Jasmine huffed as she shuffled her feet. As the next dummy she set up attacked her dance began. Like a seasoned boxer the lass bobbed and weaved whenever one of its four elongated metal arms attempted a strike. Sidestep to the left, duck under, dart backwards, push forward and parry before the wind up... Jasmine had made no few attempts to spark the fire in her to awaken but it just didn't seem to find the fuel it needed. Irritation had quickly begun seeping into her psyche as a result and it showed by way of her movements becoming more erratic, less focused.
She growled under her breath, impatience showing. What the fuck am I missing?!
Fists bound in torn up white wraps rose, meeting one of the limbs of the dummy. Knuckles connected with such strength from the student that bone and skin shattered steel. With how many times she's failed now in the past three hours Jasmine needed to vent her frustrations somehow and the dummy in front of her -- along with about forty others prior -- was just what she needed.
In a stunning display of sheer strength Jasmine launched herself forward once one of the four opposing limbs were obliterated. The internal processors of the mechanized foe couldn't even react in time before Jasmine's other fist impaled its torso, literally skewering it right down to the middle. She acted fast and shifted her weight. Feet left the ground with a feral roar as an airborne roundhouse kick was enough to thoroughly dismember the dummy in half and send the two separated pieces flying.
Jasmine huffed once she landed, chest heaving, shoulders slumping.
This wasn't fucking working. Not as quickly as she would've otherwise wanted it to, at least.
Before she could begin setting up for the next one, Jasmine's attention was caught by the familiar voice calling out to her. She thought she had the gym all to herself since she hadn't expected people to be here on the weekend. Shit, she didn't even bother cleaning the dusty scraps remaining after her little dummy crusade.
Turning over her shoulder, curious azures met the gaze of one Angel Surami, who... Jasmine quirked a brow. Something was up. That much she could tell near instantly. "Hi Angel," she replied, watching the pinkette curiously while taking a swig of water from her canteen.
"While, uh... normally I definitely wouldn't be against the idea, I've been trying to do something with my quirk. It's been a headache, literally. Can't even do it against these dummies so trying it in a spar probably wouldn't be the best idea," she explained, still watching her peer with mild curiosity. It wasn't like Jasmine and Angel were close. Frankly they barely knew each other at all beyond whatever few interactions they've had during their classes, none of which had been exactly... pleasant. Suffice it to say Jasmine had quite a few reasons to dislike Angel, mostly because of her behavior.
Regardless of that, though... she'd never seen Angel seem so distraught before.
That fake smile was enough of a confirmation. Jasmine's eyes narrowed.
"You alright?"

A s Jasmine greeted Angel did her absolute best to keep up her smile as she gave a friendly wave. She then listened to Jasmine say that she would normally be up for a spar, but that she was currently working on something with her quirk. The blonde's next question despite its simplicity of just if she was okay caused Angel's hand to drop and her smile to fade completely as if her heart had been shattered all over again as if she was still holding the now dead Natsuko in her arms cradling her lifeless body. Angel just looked at Jasmine with eyes full of heartbreak before going and sitting on a nearby bench. "On all accounts I really should be, but the truth is Jasmine I don't think I am. My orphanage and youth center are open, I helped stop a zombie invasion and helped beat a villain and vigilante killer named Cape Breaker, I'm engaged to the woman of my dreams, I finally got Red Horn to recognize my skills and value and I find found the perfect mentor for me in Ultra Violet..and yet there is a recent event that has been weighing heavily on my very soul that I can't shake."Once Angel finished speaking she looked down at her hands which were violently shaking as she clenched them as the image of little dead Natsuko replayed itself in her mind over and over. It took a few moments for Angel to recompose herself, but she finally looked back up at Jasmine obviously doing her best not to break into tears in front of her stronger peer. "See my new orphanage and youth center New Oasis was built from an already existing orphanage named New Haven. I made friends with a lot of friends with the kids there and the elderly owner, but one of the little girls and her brother see..or saw me as their personal hero and guardian Angel. Well the little girl Natsuko's own quirk of not having bones was killing her due to every time she melted herself it would crush her organs. Her brother and caretaker hid that fact from her because she was so young until one day recently she began to get sicker and sicker, and one of the bullies at the orphanage spilled the beans causing her to run away to her favorite nearby park."As Angel continued to speak her voice began to become strained as tears finally broke through her emotional dam she had been trying to keep up, but she forced herself to continue her story to it's conclusion. "I was asked to go find her since I could cover ground the fastest while calling the paramedics and her care taker and her brother caught up to me. I found her sitting on a swing set crying her eyes out. I sat down next to her knowing she didn't have long and told her stories of heroes and good overcoming evil until she..well let's just say that the day ended with a little girl dead in my arms. She was my biggest fan, and yet I failed to help her when she needed me most."Once Angel was done with her story Angel quickly tried to wipe her eyes though she was having trouble getting the tears to stop as she looked at Jasmine. "Some hero I am huh? I couldn't even save a little girl."

In hindsight, Jasmine wondered if she should've kept her mouth shut and silently continued with her training. While that simple two word question was definitely from a place of some modicum of concern (mostly curiosity though, to be painfully honest), she certainly hadn't expected to receive a whole recount of events that had transpired in Angel's life within the... what, last two or three months? She couldn't really tell. Yes, Jasmine. I'm okay, Jasmine. Well... not really okay, Jasmine. There's some stuff that's been going on, Jasmine... and then I'd go... what's been happening, Angel? Or... Man, that's tough. Sorry to hear that, Angel. Like at least give me a choice, damn... she thought to herself, suppressing a tired sigh.
Ooooookay, Jaz. Not the time to be an asshole. Focus. The two-tone haired lass nodded towards the pinkette's direction, indicating that she was paying attention. Though instead of just standing there with a thumb up her derriere the third year walked up to a punching bag. Whenever it came to processing information properly Jasmine found that it helped her to be actually doing something she had down to muscle memory whenever she listened. Throwing a ball against a wall, doodling, tapping her finger against whatever surface in tandem with whatever beat she had in her head... muscle memory. It helped her mind focus. In this particular case, she decided to go through a simple combat routine against a punching bag.
Fists up, she began to punch away, intermingling a few bobs and weaves as her mind came up with different scenarios for her would-be opponent. Can't be Mia... Can't be Tetsuko... can't be Darren... too much to focus on at once... eventually she decided on a random faceless thug, quickly picturing as he tried to throw a jab her way, one that she quickly dodged by ducking to her left and answering with a quick uppercut, the impact making the chain holding the bag wheeze and rattle in protest.
"Congrats on the orphanage," Jasmine said as she slammed a quick few combination strikes into the sandbag, having remembered reading about it in the news. Despite whatever differences she and Angel had Jasmine was definitely happy to hear that she had it in her to help those less fortunate than herself, especially when it came to children. The article had definitely painted Angel in a different light. "I'm sure the kids there appreciate your help."
"Oh, shit!" the black-golden haired girl said with no lack of surprise in her voice, her routine temporarily interrupted as she clasped both of her bandage-wrapped hands against the sandbag, halting its momentum. She glanced over at her peer with widened eyes and a warm smile. "Engaged, eh? Looks like you're the first one to go, Angel. That's awe-" she cut herself off when the conversation suddenly went dark.
Ah, the train wasn't stopping anytime soon, was it?
Nodding, Jasmine kept her mouth shut as she let Angel speak, curiously listening as she went back to the punching bag. Ah, the orphanage system, Jasmine thought, memories hearkening back to her own childhood. She remembered each time she woke up in the precinct when she was living in the streets, the so-called child services always there to try to take her in. Jasmine was pretty sure if Michael hadn't been there she would've been shipped off to some abuser's family looking for a slave they could ask to bring them beer and beat up. Wouldn't be the first time something like that happened, especially going by the many stories she'd heard from the kids she knew back then. The third year couldn't help but wonder how different her life would've been had the system ever gotten hold of her. Heck, she wondered if she'd even be alive.
But that was her story. Hopefully Angel's orphanage was different.
Jasmine fixed up the loosened wraps around her knuckles before starting to hop in place. Her pupils dilated as she went into attack mode, left foot stepping forward as she opened up with a powerful strike from her right fist. The hardened sandbag shook helplessly, chains clanging against their hinges desperately. Jasmine kept hammering away as she listened, each strike growing more powerful with each unfortunate syllable she heard coming from Angel's lips. Jasmine's brows furrowed the more her mind processed the information, the quiet sobs from behind her only serving to further strengthen her blows.
The second Angel's last line came, Jasmine unleashed a devastating right hook with enough power to finally make the chain relent. It cracked against her strength, snapping under the pressure immediately and sending the sandbag flying across the room. It slammed into a nearby wall with a loud crash, sand beginning to ooze from where Jasmine's fist had cut through the bag's polypropylene surface.
Shoulders heaving up and down, Jasmine did her best to collect her breathing as feral azures glared at the deformed bag as if it was everything that was wrong with the world. Those very same azures quickly closed as Jasmine let her head hang, exhaling a deep breath in an attempt to collect her breathing and calm herself. Silence overtook the gym as Angel tried to compose herself while Jasmine tried to process everything she was told in an attempt to gain a better understanding.
Hah. Yeah. She knew that situation all too well.
After finally having moved, Jasmine quietly approached the other girl. About three or so feet away from her, Jasmine crouched down, hands on her thighs as she offered the pinkette a sympathetic look. "You can't save everyone, Angel," was the simple response Jasmine started off with.
"We save those we can, and those we can't, well... my best friend from New York was killed during a riot when I was here in my first year. It... tore me apart. The guilt that came with the idea of I should have been there turned me into a completely different person, for a time. It took me so damn long to be able to look at myself in the mirror again, let alone be able to live with myself."
"I know it probably doesn't help, but... There was no way you could've helped her. You couldn't 'fix' her quirk the same way I couldn't just instantly be in New York to save Michael. We can't save everyone," she echoed herself again, her eyes still firmly locked on the pinkette. "But we have to do what we can for those we can help. You were there for her in her last moments. I'm sure Natsuko appreciated that more than either of us could possibly realize or even understand. Never forget that. Never forget her."

T here was something strangely calming about watching Jasmine work on her punching bag. Maybe it was the rhythm and the tempo, but as Angel watched the display it seemed to clear her mind to the point that she was able to get out of her own head enough to truly focus on the blonde's words. The first of which being a congratulations on getting New Oasis off of the ground. These words caused a more genuine smile to return to Angel's face even if it was just for a moment. "I'm just glad it worked out honestly. I know I'm not a legal adult, but I couldn't sit by and let what happened to me happen to any other kids powers or not. I aim as an adult pro is to be more then a hero. I want to be a symbol of love, unity and compassion for the country and maybe even the world. My goal for New Oasis is for it to help bridge the gap between quirkers and quirkless and end the bigotry between the two groups once and for all. It's not just an orphanage, but a youth center which will help those with difficult to manage quirks or those who want to practice talents that can help them become more productive members of society hone their crafts. We will be hosting trade courses and everything. You are more than welcome to come teach music courses in your free time."As Jasmine began to say that it was awesome that Angel had gotten engaged the young mutant couldn't help but blush, and smile even a bit brighter as she pictured Miyami walking down the isle in a beautiful gothic black dress. "Maybe closer to our wedding day you and some of my friends could throw me one of those stag party things. No strippers or anything though."Angel chuckled for a moment until Jasmine got down in front of her in a respectful manner as if they were equals which was a first for their rather almost antagonistic relationship. Angel went silent as Jasmine explained that they couldn't save everyone, but that it made it all the more important that they saved everyone they could. Jasmine then did something Angel never expected which was open up to her about her own loss about an American friend. Was this loss the reason for the Lioness's attitude shift!? Upon hearing about how it had effected the mighty warrior finally made a few things click into place in Angel's mind as if she had been missing a few center pieces in a jig saw puzzle. "I had no idea Jasmine. All this time I thought..I thought you just lost your spark out of nowhere, and was so jealous of the special relationship you have Ms.Red Horn. I was so rude and angry to you, and I didn't even know the full story. I hope you can forgive me. Despite our issues I have nothing but respect for you as a hero and a person, and I'm sorry I didn't say anything sooner."As Jasmine told Angel while there was no way she could have saved Natsuko that didn't mean she had to be forgotten. To this Angel just let out a sigh as she nodded. "Before the funeral I applied for permission for young Natsuko to be buried on the New Oasis grounds so she would always be with her orphanage family. My auntie Rose the famous Painter even pulled some strings with her art world contacts, and had a statue commissioned of Natsuko in the main courtyard so it's like she's waving at those who enter while standing on a pedestal. I just wish Auntie Rose hadn't have had one made of me as well. I didn't start New Oasis for the fame ya know?"Angel went silent for a moment as she thought of a proper way to thank Jasmine for helping her begin to process everything going on through her mind. That's when Angel spotted the now empty sand covered bag, and got a small smirk. "I know you aren't one for sentiment so how about I take the place of that poor sand bag? I promise I'm a lot more sturdy! I'd love to see whatever move you are trying to get down, and besides what makes better practice then a moving target? While we work out we could talk girls like normal teenagers! It's the least I can do."

Looking up at Angel with a half smile on her face, Jasmine couldn't help the amused snort that left her. "It's not like I personally mind what people think or say about me. If I did I would've probably dropped out of school halfway through our first year. People love to hate me, I guess," she said with an idle shrug of her shoulders. "A word of advice -- never judge a book by its cover. Never know what somebody else has got going on, especially if they're like me and don't make oversharing a habit." Or don't share at all. "There's a lot you don't know about me, Angel. One of those things is my relationship with Mia. Not exactly sure what she has to do with, uh... all of this-" she said, gesturing an arm at the girl as if to emphasize that they were supposed to be talking about her issues, not the other way around, "-to begin with, but what I have with her is more of a familial bond than anything else. She's like an older sister to me. Not sure anybody can really top that."
"I'd take a bullet for her even if we weren't heroes and quirks weren't a thing and I can, without a shadow of a doubt, say she'd to the same for me."
Jasmine let that hang in the air for a little while as if she was giving time for Angel to digest that piece of information. Honestly this wasn't the first time she'd heard of somebody having negative feelings towards her because of her involvement with Mia. She'd even gotten a few pieces of hate mail about how she was holding Mia back, which the two partners in would-be crime had one hell of a laugh about... y'know, after Mia was done wanting to find out who they were and bust their skulls open. Just remembering that made Jasmine want to smile like a dumbass all over again.
"Don't worry about it," the black-gold haired student quickly added as she got back up on her feet and stretched, groaning to herself quietly as a few bones popped back into place. "I'm kind of used to it at this point. All water under the bridge. Besides, it's not like it's your business to say anything about it. I'm a big girl, I can handle myself," she admitted, flashing the girl a small smile over her shoulder as she moved to set up another training dummy to go to town with.
Despite the little distraction Jasmine was still fully intent to carry on with her training. Even beyond the entire irritating debacle concerning her inability to control Phase Rush there was another reason for her pushing herself. She'd been feeling incredibly exhausted lately, more mentally than physically. Rowan having left so abruptly was already something that weighed heavily on the teen's mind, but now with this new thing between her and Yumi... Jasmine couldn't decide whether she was on cloud nine or drowning in sewage. On one hand she was absolutely elated to rekindle whatever it was that was between her and the redhead, on the other some part of her felt like it wasn't exactly right to do something like that the second Rowan decided to skip town.
Her mental had taken a dip and she needed the only type of breath of fresh air that she was most comfortable with - a good exercise. Which, in hindsight, probably wasn't the best idea considering the freshly laid out ink on her back. Her sports bra clung to her sweat covered torso, practically chafing her already sore skin. Half the time she was punching that sandbag she was trying to suppress the urge to wince. The aftereffects of the tattooing process was still affecting her too, making her a tad too sluggish for her liking.
She sighed tiredly; maybe it was time to go to Mia's for a little getaway. Barbecue and a few dozen beers sounded pretty heavenly right about now.
Jasmine hummed at Angel's statement, somewhat curious. As she was busy setting up the inputs on one of the few remaining training dummies, she shrugged again. "I mean, hey, if they want to honor you somehow, let them. If you want to be the symbol of love, unity and compassion that you keep talking about, you might as well get used to it," she said bluntly, nodding to herself once she made sure the inputs were to her liking.
The girl hissed quietly as she loosened the wraps on her fists, noticing their white had turned to light crimson: a crude reminder of exactly how long she'd been at this. Her knuckles were bruised and bleeding ever so slightly, forcing a tired sigh out of her. Without lingering on it for too long the girl began to re-wrap her knuckles, making sure to tie it extra snug against the parts of her skin that was bruised to make it as cushioned as the wrap allowed. Once that was done, she undid her pony tail, pleasantly sighing as she let her long black and gold tresses fall free towards her lower back.
Hair tie in between her teeth, Jasmine was in the middle of fixing her hair back into a pony tail when she glanced back at Angel. Her brow rose curiously at the request. A somewhat dismissive, somewhat sheepish chuckle left her, "It's... not exactly a move. It's more so a different way of using my quirk. It's kind of a... let's just say instead of blowing stuff up with my explosions I channel the energy needed to create them inside myself. Think of it like doping - I basically give myself the strength and speed of one of my explosions. The catch is that, well," she scoffed, "I'm channeling energy used to create explosions inside of me. Duh. It's uh... dangerous. Best case scenario if something goes wrong I fuck up my nervous system and end up a vegetable. Worst case I go nuclear from the inside out," she spread her bandaged hands out after having finished tying her hair into her signature ponytail, blowing air out comically as if to mimic an explosion. "Yeah, guts on the walls probably wouldn't look too pretty."
"So while I do appreciate the offer, I can't spare enough focus to try to uh... do what I wanna do while doing it against an actual person, y'know? Yet, anyway."

Y et more pieces to the puzzle that was Jasmine Noir, and those pieces came in the form of her relationship with the former #1 pro hero Red Horn. It wasn't so much a mentor and mentee relationship, but that of a sisterly connection. The way Jasmine spoke of Red Horn made that perfectly clear with the fact that she would take a bullet for the hero and vice versa. It was very touching, and reminded her very much of her own connection with Kumoko Joro her sister like spider girl which caused her to smile. As Jasmine told her not to judge a book by its cover, and then said she wasn't sure what Red Horn had to do with their conversation Angel blushed embarrassed. "I guess I was always just a bit jealous of what you girls had ya know? My background is by no means a secret anymore thanks to media exposure so I guess I always wanted a sister like mentor for myself since I ended up being the mentor figure myself. I bet you've heard of Kumoko Joro the #2 second year student? She's my protégé, and is like a little sister to me. I would take a bullet for her like you would Red Horn. Maybe I'll get lucky and Ultra Violet will want to be closer eventually."As Jasmine said that she was used to people's negative interpretation of her Angel couldn't help but frown. That was something that no one should ever have to get used to or be okay with, and Angel was ashamed that part of that had come from her. Angel just watched as Jasmine bandaged her now bloody knuckles with fresh bandages with an empathetic look. "Still Jaz, We are supposed to be allies, and I should have tried harder to put my jealousy and inferiority complex aside so that I could truly get to know you, or at least get to know you to where you were comfortable. I promise to be more open minded from now on. You may be able to handle yourself, but that doesn't mean you have to go it alone all the time. It may not mean much right now, but you have my support."As Jasmine programmed the dummies Angel listened to the blonde tell her that if her fans and supporters wanted to honor her then Angel should let them since she planned on being a symbol for the country anyway. What Jasmine told her next was what truly got Angel's attention to the point that she was now standing up without even realizing it. Jasmine wanted to internalize her explosions into extra strength much like Angel's own super strength and speed. It was a super creative idea, but like Jasmine herself said incredibly risky. A look of worry covered Angel's face. "So if I understand you right you basically take the strength that comes from your explosions, and attempt to store it inside to turn it into something mimicking super strength? You are right that's incredibly dangerous, and yet it seems brilliant! If..no when you pull this off it will be spectacular. Just let me know if you feel like you are gonna pop, and I'll pull an up, up and away to try and help you minimize the damage. If I remember correctly your explosions come from a certain chemical that your quirk produces right?"Angel then without a second thought began to circle Jasmine looking her body over, or rather her bare skin and pours while rubbing her chin as the gears in her brain began to spin full blast. Once she did a single circle Angel held out her own fist before flexing. "Forgive me if this is a stupid sounding idea, but instead of storing it all up like a inner bomb of strength, why couldn't you try it with one limb at a time? My quirk gives me natural super strength, and to prevent myself from breaking everything I touch I have to kinda put limiters on myself during day to day situations. Smaller actions, touches or grips to prevent shattering stuff. You wouldn't be as strong as a nuke, but you also would lessen the risk of becoming human graffiti."

Jasmine let her hands fall to her sides, clenched knuckles relaxing as long and slender fingers stretched out. She raised her head and closed her eyes, a soft breath escaping her as she refocused her attention on her training, yet still keeping some modicum of her own awareness dedicated towards Angel. A countdown started to pop off in her head as her brain came up with a scenario she could work with. Legs spreading and center of gravity lowering, Jasmine's fists rose, body priming itself into a combat-ready state which showed virtually zero openings as the training dummy whirred to life. Azure eyes shot open, sharp and focused, energies sparking around her body like wildfire.
Click. Clack. Whir. Wheeze... the machine swung forward at menacing speeds, so fast it seemed like no normal eye could even pick up on the movement. Jasmine, however, was a battle-hardened competitor whose instincts were polished beyond any sense of normalcy. She saw the attack coming a mile away and moved to act. Through the subtlest of movements she shifted her weight onto her left foot, ducking ever so slightly lower to give herself enough room for a quick lean to her side. The mechanical fist flew inches by her face almost like a bullet, seemingly barely missing its mark. Another hit came, a hit which was dodged much in the same way as the first. Then another. Another. A few more. More. The machine begun throwing different swipes at the girl much alike a gattling gun, from jabs to strikes to swipes... all of which Jasmine avoided with minimal amount of movement, saving both her stamina and giving herself ample amount of room for a counter-attack.
"You sure it was media exposure?" Jasmine suddenly asked, attention still fully directed towards the dummy, her 'training' dance of death continuing on and on without any reprieve in sight. "Pretty sure they only found out cause you kept talking about it. But, hey. Whatever works, right? Also, that sort of thing isn't about luck. It's about how well two people mesh together. Can't force something that ain't there. Plus some connections aren't really worth the effort, trust me."
Jasmine practically scoffed at the following sentence, her focus going through the roof as the next series of attacks came. The way the black and gold haired student perceived time suddenly sharpened, everything in her periphery slowing to a borderline standstill. Stepping forward, Jasmine ducked even lower as the next strike rocketed towards her, snaking her way into the underside of the ferocious dummy's attack. Jasmine's eyes narrowed dangerously as she opened up with a counter-attack of her own -- three lightning quick strikes, each in quick succession of the last -- aimed directly at the offending metallic limb. Wrist. Elbow. Shoulder. The arm practically exploded into bent pieces of electronics, metal and fabric as Jasmine made short work of it, the machine slowing temporarily as its processes reprogrammed themselves in order to issue new commands given the injured state it found itself in.
"Like I said, I'm a big girl. No offense, but I kind of prefer being on my own. Makes things easier," she glanced back at Angel for the briefest of moments, a confident smirk on her face. "Thanks for the offer, though," she added and ducked again quickly as the machine resumed its attack, quite a few times faster than the last round.
"If only it were that easy," Jasmine commented idly, ducking, bobbing and weaving from the large array of attacks coming her way. "I actually do focus my quirk into a singular point -- my chest. The problem with your way is that my quirk is too strong for me to be able to localize it even further. If I try my arms, legs, fingers, toes, whatever... it just releases an explosion, so while I get what you're trying to suggest, it won't work. Tried it already. Tried lots of things and I don't think it's the quirk itself that's the issue but rather the level of control I have over it. It's, a, uh... how do I put it..." she kept talking, all while having decommissioned three more metallic limbs much the same way the first one went. "More of an internal issue. A mental one, so to speak. Still trying to figure out how to fix that one."

A s Jasmine began to face off against the blindingly fast boxing machine while managing to dodge each blow as if she were dodging bullets point blank Angel had to admit to herself no matter how envious it made her that Jasmine Noir was indeed one of the best among them. Angel was one of the fastest and most agile around thanks to her years of learning how to move her body and use it to it's fullest, but she doubted that at her current speed she could dodge such fast point blank blows like Jasmine currently was while also holding a conversation. She was truly amazing, and hopefully one day Jasmine would think the same of her in return. As Jasmine explained to her that some connections were not about luck, but the connection itself and that some connections were not worth the trouble. This gave Angel a small pause as she thought about how to respond. It took a few moments of silence, but Angel finally felt she found the right words. "What you say about certain connections truly does make sense. Some connections that I do have I sometimes wish I don't, but the ones that I treasure I would die defending be they my family, my fiance, my new charges at New Oasis, Kumoko, or even a couple others. I'm the type that once I make an oath to someone I do my absolute best to make it iron clad. Loyalty is extremely important to me, so if I pledge myself to someone or give them my word I make sure to keep it until they give me a concrete reason not to. From what I have seen of you and Ms. Red Horn you have formed one such iron clad bond. I would not be surprised if while by her side you become a symbol yourself for society like I aim to become a symbol of love and unity. I know this may not mean much coming from me, but I see great promise and potential in you to bring about great change in the world."Angel watched with silent amazement as Jasmine continued to dodge the blindingly fast machine until she saw an opening where she delivered three lightning quick strikes that if it wasn't for Angel's own high speed movement training she would have missed. This just led Angel to nod impressed by the display even though Jasmine once again declined the invitation for help from the upbeat pink haired Angel. In truth Angel didn't know much about Jasmine's personal life due to Jasmine not being much of a sharer, but Angel did know the sight of a tormented and troubled mind and heart when she saw one so even though Jasmine was refusing now Angel wasn't going to be put off by it. Everyone deserved even the chance to be helped weather they realized it or not. "Alright, I'll step back from the subject for now, but know that the offer will always be on the table. Despite how rocky things can be between us I would very much like to try and start up a friendship with you. You and I have quite a few differences, but a few similarities too. I think with time we could grow to be friends. You are also always welcome at New Oasis. I know the kids would love hearing your music, and learning your favored genre for themselves."As Jasmine explained that she was indeed focusing her quirk into a single point that being her chest Angel raised an eyebrow in silent surprise. Jasmine had a pair of lady balls on her that's for sure! She continued to explain that she had tried Angel's method, but that she thought it was more of a control issue brought on by some kind of mental issue. This caused Angel crossed her arms as a look of concern filled her face. "It's like you have a grenade inside of you that you are having to squeeze the pin in to keep it from blowing you up. Something inside you, a form of mental or emotional strife is keeping you from funneling that internal explosion into your limbs to strengthen them without actually blowing something up externally. I can understand that. I in a way have a similar issue with my strength at least when it comes to control. For me it's more like my strength keeps increasing by the time I have just gotten use to the current level of power. Like..milk overflowing from a glass that is short, but wide. Yours if if I understand correctly would be more like you are trying to keep a bunch of water inside of balloon while you throw it against a wall while trying to keep it from bursting."Angel wasn't sure if her analogy was exactly spot on, but as long as she hit close to the mark then maybe just maybe she could help Jasmine overcome whatever was troubling her. "My biggest fear when it comes to my power is that one day in the heat of battle I'll accidently let loose against someone who can't stand it, and break my no killing code proving my father right in that I am the monster he always saw me as. I think that's why I enjoy sparing against people like you, Feng or Yumi. I know you three can take everything i've got and more. When I face you three I feel less like I live in a world made of cardboard. I can truly let loose and fight as hard as I can. If you'll let me..even though as you've said you are a lone wolf I can at the very least offer an impartial ear for you to unload some stuff. Nothing would leave this room.

"A symbol? Heh, I dunno about that," Jasmine replied, a slight scoff accompanying her words. While at this point the idea seemed comical, even she once upon a time considered something along those very same lines. Embody the terms strength and power, become an everlasting 'symbol' which redefines those words. Jasmine once dreamed about becoming that very same immovable bulwark any evildoer would have to remember whenever they considered doing something shady. Even if she wasn't there, the mere idea of Jasmine possibly arriving at the scene to thwart whatever they wanted to do? Yeah, that's what she had wanted to achieve long, long ago.
Now, though? Nah. Jasmine resigned herself to do everything that was in her power to do and then some... and if somebody decided to call her a symbol because of that? Sure. Why not?
"Like I said previously, I don't really care what people think or say about me," the girl continued, all while her azure gaze was firmly locked on that very same training dummy she'd been entangled into a dance with. "Symbols and all of those things seem nice, I guess. Same with bringing the world some much needed change... but frankly I'd rather focus on things that are feasible and can immediately help those in need. Like growing stronger. Protecting people. Being ready when it counts. Making the right decisions... I'd rather take the boots on the ground approach and focus on more practical things than, no offense, pipe dreams." She glanced at Angel over her shoulder, wondering if she might've come across a little mean with her last sentiment. "But, hey, I hope it works out for you."
Jasmine scoffed again, an amused smile crossing her lips, "An apt analogy, I suppose...!" With a loud huff the lass took to the air, avoiding a series of blows coming from the dummy's three remaining limbs. The mechanisms in its spine wheezed in protest as it attempted to angle itself to knock the black and gold haired student out of the air, each metal limb approaching her with the speed of a bullet. Jasmine's brows furrowed and body tensed, her senses going into overdrive. Miniature explosions came from the soles of her feet, pushing her speed even further as she rotated herself in the air, darting around in a zigzag pattern in an attempt do avoid the incoming attacks.
A low growl left her as she tilted her head sideways, barely avoiding a blow which grazed her cheek and drew blood. Her foot came forward and pushed down on another approaching attack, effectively redirecting it and forcing the dummy's whole metallic frame to stagger momentarily. This, as a result, ended up messing with the droid's internal processes enough so that its last blow went completely off target... and Jasmine used the resulting opening to deal the finishing blow. She cocked her fist back fully as she descended, a feral roar leaving her throat as she swung down...
By the time Jasmine's feet touched the ground the dummy was split in half, quickly exploding into a mass of spare parts.
Jasmine huffed to herself as she glanced down at her bruised knuckles. Still not quite there, but... I think I'm getting the hang of it... she thought to herself, her mind quickly trying to process that last exchange. Only to be interrupted by Angel thinking out loud, of course. Jasmine glanced at her sideways, brow raised with a mixture of curiosity and irritation.
She quickly raised her hand, "Uhm, Angel? Like, not to interrupt you or be rude or anything, but shouldn't you be grieving right now?" The question was as blunt as they came, but frankly Jasmine was unable to keep herself quiet. She realized what Angel was doing and it was starting to piss her off. "Trying to help me with something I can manage on my own isn't exactly going to make you feel any better. Trust me, I've been there."
"Like, it's cool that you recognize what your fears are and how to combat them. It's nice to have dreams and goals and shoot for them. It's all super nice to hear, really... but Christ, distracting yourself from what's really eating at you isn't going to make things any easier for you."

A s Jasmine shared her views on symbols, and how she would rather take a foot on the ground approach instead of going for what she called pipe dreams Angel chose to remain silent as she watched the blonde contend with the combat droid. The young mutant wanted to defend and argue her choice of wanting to become with a symbol for the world, but she knew that with someone like Jasmine it wouldn't do any good. Jasmine was very much someone who once she had her mind set on an ideal or an action no one or nothing could change it, and honestly Angel didn't want to ruin any sort of budding friendship that could happen between the two, and so once Jasmine was done speaking her views Angel just crossed her arms and gave a soft nod with a small smile. "To each their own. We all have different reasons of why we fight, and our own methods of doing so. As long as it's for the greater good that's what counts right. You are always welcome under New Oasis's roof for as long as you wish to be. Anyone from U.A. is."As Angel continued to watch Jasmine spar even seeing the blonde take a strike before finishing off the robot with a powerful punch followed by a roar she couldn't help but think about her new home away from U.A., and the cost that had to be paid to make her dream a reality. As the mental image of poor little Natsuko filled Angel's mind causing a tug on her heart Jasmine finally seemed to catch on to what Angel had been trying to do the entire time they had been together, and even called her out on it which Angel respected. As Jasmine told her that trying to distract herself from what was eating at her wasn't healthy Angel just looked down at the floor before deciding to sit down right where she stood cross legged with her ever present smile finally fading completely as the joy she tried to keep in her gaze morphed into heartbreak. For a few moments that felt like an eternity to Angel she remained silent as the memory of cradling young Natsuko's dead body in her arms filled her head until it seemed to glue itself there causing her heart broken eyes to turn into those of anger as she punched the floor hard enough to cause a fist sized crater at the contact point as tears finally began to break free as she looked up at Jasmine as her eyes finally showed the true extent of the pain and shame she was feeling. "It's not fair Jasmine. She was so young! She was just child who wanted to be like us when she grew up, and yet the very thing that made her like us is what killed her! I've faced a castle of junior heroes, countless thugs, a few supervillains and even a hoard of the living dead and yet I couldn't save one little girl! What kind of hero does that make me!?As Angel spoke her last sentence she felt her voice break and shake as she clutched the fist that was inside the crater it had made so tightly she felt her fingernails dig into her palm as her tears flowed more strongly as if a dam had begun to break. "Whenever I close my eyes I see her final lifeless smile looking up at me, and it breaks my heart! She idolized me! She even made a little doll of me to carry around, and I couldn't help her when she needed me the most! I was the one who had to carry her body to her family and the paramedics. I just..I feel so angry at myself, and so ashamed! It's our job to protect those around us especially the next generation and...I failed her."Angel did her best to try and take a couple deep breaths as she finally pulled her fist from its little crater as she kept looking up at Jasmine, her cheeks soaked by her tears. "I'm sorry for trying to push my help on you Jasmine. I just thought that if I could help more people not only could I keep my mind off the loss, but I could make it up to little Natsuko for failing her. I've never lost anyone like this before, so I don't really know how to handle it. How..do you handle stuff like this?"WORDS credit to nat of adoxography.

Ah, there it was. One sentence. A singular effort to try and make Angel own up to what was really bothering her. To face the pain that Jasmine knew was incessantly clawing at the pinkette. No matter how much Angel tried to bury it through whatever means she took Jasmine knew all too well it wasn't going to work. Hell, it'd make things worse. She'd been there. She'd been there so many times. Far too many times a girl her age should ever have to be. More times than anybody should ever be forced to be.
As Jasmine glanced over her shoulder to see Angel visibly breaking town as her walls were torn asunder she couldn't help but feel it chip away at her heart a little. Seeing the winged lass like this did horrid wonders to see herself in her, screaming under the weeping sky with the warm and sickly feeling of blood on her hands and fingers. Azure eyes softened marginally, watching as Angel let out her frustrations on the floorboards of the gym area.
Then there was the enquiry. The million dollar question that Jasmine still didn't have the answer to. The normally fierce Jasmine stayed quiet as she lowered her head, golden locks falling over her eyes as she felt a a sharp sensation pierce her chest like a finely tuned blade. She glanced up at the ceiling in wonder, almost as though she was trying to find the answers to the question Angel had asked yet failing to do so. There was no answer to something like that. No easy answer, anyway.
Finally, she spoke, "Elana Hulse. Police brutality. She was twelve," Jasmine began, her voice firm yet it was clear from her tone the words hurt. "Jenna Glen. Car accident. Fifteen. Martin James. Hit and run. Fourteen. Natasha Graham. Drowned. Sixteen. Elijah Pierce. Suicide. Eighteen. Zeke Clemens. Murder. Twenty-six." Jasmine kept going, each word a memory of a lifetime of heartbreak, every single name belonging to one of its own. She'd gotten through about a dozen names, causes of death and their age and with each one Jasmine had to force herself to stay composed... all up until the next one finally made her voice crack. "...Michael Garcia. My best friend. Twenty-one. A casualty at an anti-quirk rally turned riot... Leonard and Grace Noir... Murder."
"Then there are the others that I've met here," she added, still unmoving from her spot, her hands long since clenched into fists to keep them from shaking. "My adoptive sister Aurora. Ryuusei Igarashi. Naoru Kehai. Yoruhi Honookaen. Daimon Darren. Maximillian Tychus Kane. Hayley Reid. Hell, even that bastard Nick Cross..." she paused, the next name still a very fresh wound, "...Rinkusu Kurama..." her voice audibly cracked. "I don't know if they've passed or not, but they're all people who have been close to me in one way or another, people who I've loved that have completely disappeared from my life."
Another brief pause followed before Jasmine finally turned to Angel, an all too bittersweet smile on her face, "We always remember them, Angel. That's how we handle it."
"It's never simple. It's always hard... and it never gets any easier. But that's our burden to bear as the people who are still here. We fight for those who can't fight for themselves. We're stronger than most, but even we fail sometimes... and, if you ask me, it's our duty to honor those who have fallen by remembering them for who they were and how they lived their lives. We do what we do... for them. We live for them. That's the gift they've given us. And that's what you can do for little Natsuko. Never forget about her, Angel."

A ngel remained respectfully silent yet slightly confused as Jasmine began to list off a lot of people's names. It took until about the third name until Angel's now reddened and puffy eyes went wide as she realized the significance of the names. They were the people in Jasmine's life that had died including two individuals who shared her last name which most likely meant that Jasmine herself was an orphan. They had all died in violent and horrific ways that made Angel both even more sad as well as Angry as she once again punched the floor deepening the crater she had created. She then stood up as Jasmine began naming names from the school who had left her, but she didn't know the fates of. "That's so horrible Jasmine. I had no idea that you carried such a burden inside of you. I owe you a serious apology. I judged you so harshly without even knowing all that you went through. I'm so sorry!"As Jasmine began to tell Angel that they handle the pain by never forgetting those they lost Angel just slowly stood up and began to walk over to Jasmine stopping right in front of her. Angel's eyes freely showed the young girl's pain, guilt, regret and trauma fully, and yet she smiled only slightly. She listened to the woman she once saw as a rival say that it was always gonna be hard, but it was their job to bare that burden since they were the ones that fought for those who couldn't fight for themselves even saying that even though they were stronger then others they still failed from time to time. Hearing Jasmine speaking this way and about living for those who were no longer among them as a way to honor them made Angel realize that Jasmine had a side to her that she had never seen, but that she could completely respect. Angel wasn't sure if Jasmine was a hugger, but without thinking about it Angel found herself throwing her arms around Jasmine in a gentle and thankful hug as she once again found herself fighting back tears. "I've already made sure that Natsuko will never be forgotten. She has a statue on the grounds of New Oasis, but from now every victory I win will be in her name. Every life I save will be to honor her. I'm..this may not be my place, but I'm sorry about your family. All this time I gushed about my mom and auntie, and you were living with the pain of losing your own family. That was selfish and insensitive of me. I'm truly sorry. If..if you feel about talking about them I'd love to know about them. To have raised someone as great and strong willed as you they must have been something truly special."Angel would then end the hug, rub her now strained eyes and step back as she mulled over making Jasmine an offer she wasn't sure would go over well, but after opening up to her like that Jasmine deserved something nice. "This may not mean much coming from me Jasmine, but you are always welcome at my family's dinner table. You can bring Yumi too if you'd like. I know you two are an item. You and I are a bit more alike then I first thought, and I would truly like to get to know you better. All this time I've been chasing after your shadow like I was a rival trying to catch up when I should have been trying to stand side by side with you as a friend and comrade. What do you say? Can we start fresh?"

"That's the thing right there, Angel. Bullying. Abuse. The loss of loved ones... everybody has baggage. That's why you should never let your own experiences and/or prejudices decide who or what a person is for you before you get the full picture," Jasmine offered what she felt was one more needed sliver of advice in regards to that whole matter. "And you really don't have anything to apologize to me for. May be harsh to say but I never really cared what your opinion was of me, nor will I ever care about what anybody else thinks of me either. It's all just useless noise in the grand scheme of things anyway," she said, offering the girl a small smile as she did so. It was those very experiences that had hardened Jasmine to the point that she sometimes even felt numb to it all. She'd definitely been desensitized to many things, on some level even death. She reckoned if it weren't for the people like Rin, Aurora, Mia, Yumi, Ryuusei, Yoruhi, Naoru, Rowan... Michael... the people she grew to love, she likely would've stayed this emotionless husk that she used to be.
Honestly she couldn't help but wonder sometimes if she wouldn't have gone down the completely opposite road to that of a hero. She was in her right to by far too many accounts, after all.
Christ... Where are you guys now, I wonder? With all my heart, I hope you're doing well... she thought to herself, solemnly realizing exactly how much she missed all of them.
Jasmine watched as Angel finally got back up on her feet and approached, settling to stand in front of her taller frame. She knew what was about to come next and despite wanting to protest had little to no energy nor willpower to do so. Angel's arms wrapped around her frame and the musician found herself feeling oddly comfortable in the embrace. She would've slapped herself for letting weakness turn her this soft but honestly she couldn't even find the motivation to be angry at herself. Instead she simply rose one hand and offered the girl a few gentle pats against her back, trying her best to keep her body from reacting negatively to the show of affection all on its own.
"A statue isn't exactly- ...yeah," Jasmine cut herself off upon Angel's admission, a small smile crossing her lips when it seemed like the pinkette did actually receive the message she was trying to convey. She couldn't help but chuckle to herself, idly and weakly, wondering if there might be hope for this girl yet.
"Don't worry about it," the words were quick to leave Jasmine's lips. "My parents left the picture when I was really young. I barely remember them, honestly, so it's really nothing you should feel bad about. If I'd get uncomfortable every time somebody mentioned family Id've lost my shit a long time ago," she joked, yet at the same time couldn't help but remember the small locket Nathan had given her. The picture of her parents was something she definitely needed to see and felt like because of the clarity it gave the once distorted image she had of their faces in her head she was finally able to move on all those months ago. "I appreciate the offer but there's really not much to talk about there either. It's just... one of those things. I've learned to live with it. Honestly rather not waste my time looking back and think of what could've been and just focus on moving forward, y'know?"
"That being said," she then added once she felt her personal space become personal again, that small smile still very much on her face. "I'm still a little uncomfortable with family dinners and stuff. Not really my type of gig, y'know? Spent Christmas with Red Horn and her family... now that was an adventure," the girl couldn't help but snort to herself as she mused the memory, recalling how she hard she struggled to keep herself composed when she realized Mia had shared a little bit of Jasmine's past with her own mother after a few too many eggnogs. The embrace and words that followed had Jasmine feeling like a lonely child all over again, yet this time her hunger for parental affection had been sated. The memory would likely never stop making her smile.
The black and gold haired teen glanced at Angel after the last few questions left her, azure eyes meeting emerald greens. In Jasmine's mind this wasn't really a question that needed answering; she reckoned Angel was the one who needed it. She sighed softly, raising a hand to rest on her hip, "Starting fresh, huh? You dumbass," she suddenly said, raising her other hand to flick Angel across the forehead, "we already have, haven't we?"
