Mia couldn’t help but scoff into her hand a little as Kirk decided to die on the ‘bro’ hill like any true bro would. Shaking her head but smiling all the while. He was a unique brand that was for sure but definitely nothing she was against. “Look just… ah ya know what? I was gonna give ya some spiel about you not wanting to be called ‘sister’ or something cause ya’d feel out of place, but ya know what? Knowing you? I bet you’d be all in on that. See it as some sign of respect or something!~” She gave another little chuckle and pat Kirk on the back at their question of her own view of being called a bro. “Ah don’t worry about me though kid. I just thought callin’ someone a bro might make them feel less like a lady. I’m as far from a lady as ya can get with my chromosomes anyway!~”
Now, to business-!
It was a bit of a mixed bag when dealing with this part of the job and her apprentices she’d admit. Every last one of them she knew could handle themselves in a fight or a tough situation, but observational skills could be a bit of a surprise. For better or for worse. Showed if they focused on all the lessons or just some. For Kirk he was definitely passable, noticing the fact they were covering up and keeping on guard for starters, Mia’s red gaze flowing over the scene again.
“As rude as it might be, even in Japan I don’t see your delivery guys looking so neat and tidy. Full days in a stuffy van with no one checking in on them? Doubt they’d be that clean and sharp lookin’. Specially wouldn’t have uniforms that look fresh outta the box like that.” May have been a bias take, a gut instinct take, but it was something Mia felt she could go on all the same. She looked down to her hand, having retrieved the Velcro backed phone from inside the pocket of her hero costume and tapping away at an application they may have introduced in one of Kirk’s hero classes. “I’m gonna loop around the place, take some license plate shots. I ain’t the stealthiest but…” She watched the guy on guard lock up the van and follow the last guy in. “I think we got time… you think you can take station at the back of the building? Cover any back exits for me?”
As much as Mia was the one in charge, it was clear she was offering Kirk a decent chunk of respect, knowing full well she had to be the one in charge here, but not about to push him to the sidelines so long as he showed he knew what he was doing. Of course, if he’d rather stick with her, she was more than happy to oblige in turn. Independence, especially so fresh out of the gate, wasn’t for everybody and she’d be happy to support how she could.
Assuming he was good to get into position solo however, she’d make a few leaps around the rooftops, getting good angles on the van and recording the street they were on, waiting for confirmation this might be an ongoing investigation from the local forces.

In the end, the pat on the back just solidified the fact, that Mia finally understood somewhat what Kirk meant. To him, being a 'bro' or 'sister' or whatever, was a great honor! Best thing to call people you trusted from the bottom of your heart! In ladder kind of sense, it was like one step behind the position they had been talking about for a while, and with ladders, typically you were always recommended to take all the steps to get up safely.
However, once the assumed criminals appeared in their sights, it was pretty clear both of these bros were completely concentrated on the task at hand! No more small talk! Kirk listened to what Mia thought about the scene herself and the thing about the carriers being a bit too clean for workers was admittedly one of those things that you could only realize with time. Honestly, he didn't even pay attention to it, other than their unified clothing style. "Guess that's what I get for not putting that much effort into fashion..." He rubbed the underside of his nose a bit snarkily. Something to keep in mind for the future for sure.
Another task, this time involving them splitting up a bit! And like any task, Kirk simply smacked his fingers onto his forehead. "Y-yes bro. I mean, ma'am." Kirk was the sort of person to follow whatever command he was given to the word. And as Mia went off, Kirk himself prepared to move too... Before ducking behind their hiding spot again. 'NO, not through there! you'll be way too obvious if you just jump over them!' He was still a bit on his tippy toes about things. He didn't wanna screw up her plan with his! And staying unnoticed was definitely something both of them were definitely not good at. However for now, it was easy enough to avoid it...
He moved to the building next to the one he was in, and tried to keep an eye on the guard, until his gaze would be turned away. Then, using his pouch, he would launch himself over the gap, and onto the building next to the one the criminals were gathering stuff from. With that, he could finally climb onto the building he was supposed to go to, as he quietly snuck up to look at the other side to watch for anything suspicious from there. He pulled out his regular phone from his pouch... should he be prepared to take pictures too?
...that and most importantly, should he inform her about the fact that he was in position? Wasn't she using her phone to take the pictures? What if the thing wasn't silenced? Gah! Kirk was overthinking it again... for now, he just lifted his thumb up. Maybe if she was at the same level as he was at some point, she would see it.

Mia gave Kirk a light squeeze of his shoulder rather than a pat on the back as he took in her little addition to his notes on the matter. A pat on the back was just a jokey, passing way to show some approval of something someone said, but Kirk… he wasn’t taking the comment bad, he was taking it in, and positive about it too. She liked that. She didn’t have much personal experience with Kirk yet but the kid didn’t seem to let much get him down and she could respect that at the very least, and besides that, the light squeeze of his shoulder hopefully helped convey that what he did notice was damn good work. He’d definitely been paying attention, from combat to reconnaissance in those UA classes.
“Bros better than Ma’am partner. ~” She’d comment with a warm chuckle, about to move herself after shooting him a wink, but pausing as she noticed him hesitating. She noticed the path of his gaze and smirked a little as he clearly seemed to be putting some thought into his actions. It was good, he’d been criticized for rushing in in the past and now he was making sure he didn’t make those mistakes. She worried what it might do to his reaction times, but at least he was conscious of how he needed to improve. More than she could say about herself at the same age really. Once he got moving though so would she, leaping through to her own vantage point and waiting for the rush team behind the police app she was using to get back in touch about the license plates.
She spotted Kirk giving her a thumbs up from a distance, wondering why he wasn’t…She placed a hand up to her own ear, the smug cheek of her expression seeming evident on her face even at this distance, just speaking normally as her voice would come through the earpiece he himself had likely forgotten about. “You know how to use your headset right?” She was sure he did, he was a smart kid, but she’d dealt with a few antsy, eager heroes who could forget a thing or two along the way, and she was pretty sure Kirk was falling into that self-trap. “Don’t worry kid, keep your eyes on the door, we may be waitin’ here a bit… but it’s part of the job.”
With Kirk still in position all the same, the waiting wasn’t an instant process, she’d send him any updates she had through a text message to keep things quiet on the radio, telling him their report was picked up and when the processing was being confirmed. It was still a handful of minutes of dead air from there, but the checks had to be done, boxes ticked. They didn’t wanna be dropping in on some actual movers just trying to earn a living afterall.
Eventually, her phone buzzed in her hand and she looked across to Kirk, half keeping silent, half teasing him by shooting a thumbs up. She’d send him across a screenshot of the report she received. The people in the van had been tied to some sort of anti-quirker group and had been collecting the ingrediants needed for explosives. No one had taken them down yet because the ingrediants separately hadn’t been raising any flags, but with Mia raising alarm bells they managed to collect the data on some quick checks. Once she was sure Kirk was up to speed, she’d gesture down to the ground level, signalling for him to get ready at the back door. Mia herself dropped down to the street level at the side of the building, at the corner, keeping her frame low and checking for any windows before she made her way to the main entrance, getting her nails in on the hinges of the door rather than the handle, ready to wrench it off.
Her voice a hush, she’d ask Kirk almost cheekily. “You do any breach drills lately kid…?~"

"Gah...!" Kirks hand went over his mouth quite quickly as he suddenly flinched hearing Mias voice right next to him! He turned his head couple of times from side to side, until he actually listened to what she said... Oh yeah. A brief blush grew on his cheeks, as he tapped his other ear, and this little plug came out. He reinserted, and gave a couple of awkward chuckles. "S-sorry! I guess all that head clapping made it lodge deep enough that I didn't even feel it, hehe... he." Didn't help that he typically got pretty quickly used to things being in his pouch, so that his attention wouldn't be taken from it. However, with that, Kirk could easily relay his message without needing some impromptu sign language: "All clear here."
Typically this would probably be the boring part for any hero, not to mention Kirk, for investigations: Observing. Nothing really happening except needing to keep an eye out for something happening. Usually Kirk would have just taken a couple of pointers, and maybe done something without too much of this, but now, there was just something desperate about doing the job well enough. His eyes occasionally bounced behind himself to make sure there was nothing on the same roof as he was, but othervise, he pretty much kept his side of the house perfectly in check. Kind of a like a pitcher keeping an eye on the bases, so nobody could steal them under his nose.
For now the plan seemingly worked, As turning to look back at Mia, he got a thumbs up! He shot a thumbs up back, before his phone got a message. Ah! Anti-quirkers huh? And all this stuff with they had gathered. Looking at the pictures atleast there didn't seem to be any civilians in there. Looking at Mia, it seemed like she agreed, as she jumped down. With that, Kirk gave one final look if everything was fine at the other entrance, before falling backwards with a salute, catching himself with the cushiness of his pouch, and bouncing right back up, as he leaned against the wall next to the door.
And then came the message from Mia: "You do any breach drills lately kid…?~" Kirk huffed a little, before cupping his mouth a bit with his hand to make sure folks didn't hear him. "Well, let's just say that, if there is one thing sports festival told me I had, it was a skill in breaking through things! No civilians in there right?" With that final question, Kirk had reached his trifecta: They hadn't been noticed, there weren't people to endanger inside and now he even had permission! "I'll go in on three!" He positioned himself like a runner, taking aim towards the door. "One... Two... THREE!" And like a spring he pushed himself forward, slamming his shoulder against the door, and slamming it in! With that, he took a deep breath, and here went the big ol introductions he had already gotten a bit of training in!
"EVERYBODY HANDS BEHIND YOUR HEADS! TIME FOR A CHECK-UP BY THE HEROIC DUO OF RED HORN AND SUUUUPERRRRRRRRRR SLUGGERRRRRRRRR! NOW WHICH ONE OF YA'LL DUDES WANTS TO TELL US WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE!?" He pulled out his bat, preparing to block any blows coming his way! The problem of entering semi-blind: You never knew what awaited inside, before you dove in!

Mia let out a chuckling huff of her own as Kirk responded to her little quip about the breaching drills, a smile on her face as she was expecting this to be one hell of a show. Kid said he struggled with being a bit too bombastic? Well this should hopefully be his opportunity to indulge in that a little rather than being cut off for it. They made sure the two of them were on the same page, wouldn’t be good for either of them to barge in too soon. A keen ear to the wall she made sure that none of the punks inside seemed to be onto the fact there was the duo outside waiting to take them down… and when Kirk gave the count, Mia reared back, heel turned, knee raised, and a harsh slam of her bare heel beside the lock of the door. The door easily flung off the hinges, spinning a few times before embedding itself in the opposing walls. Mia was kinda thankful for her keen ears telling her there was no one on the other side of it or that coulda been pretty gruesome.
“Alright Pu-!” Her own cry was a little interrupted by the much louder cry of her mentee bellowing out from the opposite side of the building, pulling back a little as it seemed to hold as much weight on the air as a light shove, though it just left Mia trying to hold a serious face rather than break into a chuckle at his bombastic nature, the two of them searching the room.
The ground floor was mostly empty on her head, two stunned guys in those moving uniforms looked like they were about to carry some of the crates into the backroom. Kirk on the other hand would have a much more… interesting scene. Some of the men in uniforms were gathered around a table with one of the crates on it, and 2 less.. formal looking goons seemed to be showing them what to do with the contents, a bunch of gun parts packed in with straw, a few teddies tossed aside implying they may have been what was hiding the guns as the layer on top. There was a brief stunned look in their eyes, but quickly they began scrambling to put the guns together. Yelling at eachother to get out of the way. One of them, realizing there were too many cooks in that crate, grabbed the crowbar they’d been using to pry them open, rushing to quirk and trying to take an untrained swing right at his face.
Hearing more chaos in the room on the otherside of the wall, Mia instantly felt a slither of worry. Kirk was trained of course, shouldn’t be too big a worry, but knowing he got the deeper end of this shit pile didn’t leave her with anything but the worst to assume. “Kid you okay in there!” She ducked off to the side as one of the uniformed punks tried to slam her with keys between his knuckles, the jagged edges piercing her forearm though she didn’t even flinch, knocking him out with a solid elbow under the chin. The other rushed to the back door dividing the rooms, rapidly jostling the locked door trying to get through. Sure, Mia was worried for the kid but… she enjoyed a nice slow walk towards this punk as she quietly popped her knuckles...
“Probably not the right day to wear a clean uniform pal…~” Her tusks extended a little further over her top lip, a wild grin on her features as she decided she was gonna enjoy getting through that door.

There was just a brief moment of nothing happening on Kirks side. The sound of the other door slamming open, indirectly informing him Mia was inside also, was almost missed by Kirk, as he got the full brunt of the image in front of him: A bunch of literal gangsters, with things that looked like guns strewn across the tables! With all their eyes on him, Kirk couldn't help but feel the sweatdrop trickling down the side of his head. "Uh...! I thought I told you to put your hands behind your h-!" The moment his mouth opened, with some of the initial spark from his entrance gone, The criminals immediately started to scamper to get their weapons up and running, ignoring his initial shout! On top of all that, One of them outright proceeded to charge him with a crowbar on hand!
"Whoa!" But atleast Kirks reflexes were still doing alright! As the guy approached him, he would soon get the thicker part of the bat, As the loud clang from contact echoed in the room! However, out of the duo, despite one being a grown adult in both body and mind, Kirk himself was pretty much living pile of muscle, being able to easily swing him to the side for just a moment. "Okay, okay... loud commands don't work, so... physical action allowed...!" He muttered to himself, almost to remind himself of the rules in place. It's not like he was here to accidentally kill anyone!
He briefly let go off his bat to grab two tennis balls from his chest lifting his arms up in an attention grabbing fashion! "I don't see them hands lifting... SO LET'S LIFT DEM GUNS UP!" With that he swung them downwards. A classic move from him. However, compared to his fight with Jasmine, where he had let the balls erratically just bounce about the room, this time the balls moved together, smacking against the floor with a satisfying 'BADOINK!' before ascending upwards like a pair of hands to slam against the underside of the table in an effort to flip it over, spilling all the things on it across the floor, and throwing the table against the wall! Of course, he could have ran up to the table to do the thing... but since guns were involved, he wanted to keep his distance, and make sure he could dive outside if bullets started flying.
At this point, he heard Mias voice in his ear again, asking for a situation report! "I mean, I think I am doing fine! Although, that's a lot of guys preparing guns! Dunno if they'll take your intimidation more seriously than mine!" His attention was pretty much split by her and the situation in front of him. Those criminals were probably scrambling to get the pieces they were missing! And thusly, he grabbed his bat again, And swung it into his palm. "Alright everybody! Anybody who reaches for something will get BONKED! So stay still!" ...Kirk couldn't help but almost feel like the criminal in this case, with him just barking orders at these criminals like he owned the place. Besides, the aesthetic of 'the man with a bat' was pretty strong in his head. These thoughts pretty much kept him from realizing one mistake he might have done in his rush to fix his entrance being so shoddy...

Mia made quirk work binding up the goons she’d dealt with before moving into the next room. The idea they may be preparing guns in there didn’t really put her at ease but she didn’t hear any gunshots yet so… things had to be fine for now? Right? Whatever the case a loud sound of something crashing gave her the idea that Kirk must at least be on the winning side of the situation. Somehow she doubted a quirkless would be able to make that sort of noise so quickly unless they were royally fucking up somehow. “Eyes on them kid! If they got guns duck and cover back outside if you have to I’m almost done here!” She didn’t mean to distract him so much, buuuuut she wasn’t exactly the kind to remember police code and radio shorthand.
Back in Kirk’s room his slammed tennis balls definitely earned him a few points. Not in the eyes of the criminal perhaps but the rules of combat didn’t exactly care about hurt feelings. With the balls rebounding against the underside of the table the crate of guns slammed back against one of the walls, and as Kirk tried to get a handle on the situation, the panic and adrenaline from being invaded like that. From his get up alone the lot of them realized he must have been a quirker even if it wasn’t immediately obvious, physically speaking, so any qualms they had about harming fellow quirkless weren’t exactly an issue.
One scrambled for the gun parts they still needed
Two more grabbed broken pieces of wood from the crate, charging to try and use them as weapons. Highly unco-ordinated and just trying to get a blow in, just as likely to get in eachother’s way as they were to actually reach Kirk if he played his cards right.
Finally, the one man who hadn’t been in uniform darted out of a side store, hefty ascending steps through the wall saying he was likely running up the stairs to some sense of freedom. As Kirk likely dealt with his two main assaulters, adrenaline and panic likely making them a little stronger on their feet then the average joe, but still far below Kirk, the goon with his back to the wall, struggling to piece his gun together, finally heard a resounding click as he popped in the magazine, the gun rattling in his hands as he tried to line up a shot-!
The shot blared off, but it was way off mark, hitting the celing, the goon’s aim severely tarnished by a hand suddenly enveloping his head. Mia had slammed her arm through the wall, grasping his face and dragging him back through the wall like it was as thin as kitchen foil, groans showing he was far from dead but far from conscious either, Mia slamming her heel quickly into his gun to shatter it before looking back to Kirk.
“Y’okay kid?” Hopefully two goons with nailed boards wouldn’t be too much for a trained student.

Well, it seemed like he had at least made most of the guys stop their efforts of gunning him down. However, there was no time to rest! Second wave of thugs were coming his way, their weaponry way less threatening in looks. After all, what is a plank to a bat! However, two at the same time would have been a kind of scary prospect, if it wasn't Kirk they were facing: A boy used to sports like football and soccer, where these sorts of chargers were typical! With that, as they swung towards her face, him finishing his message to Mia, Kirk squatted, as the guys swung and hit each others shoulders, surprised at how low the guy could go. However, Kirks legs extended out again, slamming his shoulders against their legs, as Kirk straightened his back! With that, the two goons were launched into the air, doing a minor flip and slamming onto the ground dizzy! A pretty showoffish maneuver!
However, sadly, as he stood up, a guy in front of him had seemingly gotten his gun ready and was taking aim! Kirk couldn't do much but gasp a quick "Dangit!" As he panically lifted his arms up as some sort of protection! He had been rash! Way too rash! And then the huge sound of crashing went through his ears!
...But that's not usually the sort of sound that comes from guns. Lowering his guard just a little (parting his arms from each other that is), he could see that on top of the guy shooting the roof instead of him, there was a familiar bicep of a bro cradling his head! "Oh hell yeah!" He gasped a little quickly, before shaking his head a little. "I mean, told ya I wasn't alone in here! Super Slugger ain't going nowhere without a bro, hehe!" A bit of a heroic taunt in the face of the villains, to keep the panic going. As long as they were too spooked to lift a finger, nothing bad would probably happen!
"Better than okay, Bro! I'm feeling FANTASTIC thanks to that save of yours!" Whether it was the more stealthy approach from before, or just the poor adrenaline that came from surviving a close call, Kirk found it an impossibility to keep his voice down! "Man, I dunno if my skin would have been enough to take that in the face, you know! Couldn't have been a better timing! The only thing even comparable would have been a last minute homerun!" It was a last minute save, just like from the comic books he had been reading as a kid, and it truly showed in his almost childishly glimmering eyes! However, he kind of realized this and clapped his fingers onto his forehead! "Anyway, Still in the middle of the job and what not! Next floor, coming up!"
He proceeded to run past Mia through the brand new hole in the wall. His direction was pretty clear! The upper floors of the building! But as he got onto the stairs, he awkwardly stopped midway through. 'Ugh, dangit, almost ran in headfirst again...!' he thought, cringing a little. They were so loud downstairs, that they had to be getting ready on the upper floors for something! And he would just end up in the gunning range, and a big ol pincushion!
He proceeded to grab a pair of tennis balls from his ammo belt again... couple more left after this. May as well be careful. He pulled his arm back, and in a lengthy curve, threw the ball into the hallway of the second floor. If the ball bounced against the wall, it would proceed to ricochet around for a little while, but Kirk wasn't aiming at anything in particular. It was more of a scouting maneuver of what would be ahead.

Mia let out a light chuckle as Kirk tried to turn some clear surprise into a moment of confident victory over the criminals, making sure the goons behind her were definitely out cold with a glance before shooting Kirk a wide smile of her own. The kid did good and from the number of people out cold definitely had the rougher end of the job. She shoulda known they’d move deeper into the building or something but she had definitely been expecting more people guarding the front. Bad call on that one, but she didn’t feel too bad since the kid seemed more than capable of handling himself. “Nice work Super Slugger-“ She had to resist a small chuckle. It was a good hero name for sure but calling Kirk that when she knew his name just tickled her the faintest bit. She’d offer a closed fist across in the quiet moment, looking for a fist bump from her partner in cri-er… heroism.
“Next floor huh?” She glanced up through the ceiling to their next target, not about to wreck the entire foundation of this place to get them to their target but the fact Kirk was telling them that was there next move told her that he was at least sure someone was up there. He gave Kirk a firm slap on the back as he moved past her, not against him taking the lead with the energy he had, though she did note he at least had a moment of caution with that tennis ball, a quiet, pleasant toned whisper from behind him. “Good call.”
The ball would bounce around, but among it’s bouncing noises against the walls there’d be the clear sound of a door slamming. Mia gave a light press on his back to urge him to move forward rather than shoving past him, but before they rounded the corner from the stairs she’d make sure to put herself ahead just as a potential bullet sponge. A frustrated sigh came from her with what she saw however.
A hall of numbered doors. Despite the open space on the ground floor it seemed like this was some sort of apartment building. There weren’t too many doors, but enough so that it was hard to imagine everyone in the building was up to the same illegal shit.
“Kirk you get a good look at the face of anyone who ran up here?” She’d ask. Either way they’d be doing cautious door duty. No point getting Civilians involved in this when they never asked to be.
