The girl stood alone, taking a deep breath. She was minutes away from challenging UA002. On any other day, that would be the equivalent of a hard day at the gym, but she’d dared to take on the Rookie Fort. The undefeated Rookie Fort, as far as students were concerned. Something had possessed her into thinking that she stood a chance, where her far better peers had fail-[break][break]
A slap echoed throughout the room. It would take but a few seconds for the red hand to fade from her face, but hopefully that would be enough to escape her comrades’ notice. Until they finished changing, she only had her own thoughts for company, which threatened to turn against her yet again. ‘Which is not helpful right now,’ she reminded herself. She was better than that, for one. Secondly, doubt didn’t suit her face one bit. Three, she wouldn’t be alone for long. The Fort may have been an insurmountable feat for her, but with two of the school’s best on her side… They had a shot.[break][break]
A long shot, whispered a voice in the back of her head.[break] 'Eat my ass,' yelled the rest.[break][break]
Perhaps a final check would help her feel at ease. She looked down at herself, dressed as best as a pro-hero could be. Emi’s old love of anime showed itself in an outfit inspired by magical girls. Dark purples and pinks adorned by gold metals that matched her eyes helped bring her attire down to earth. Still, the more she used the outfit, the more she realised that it favoured form over function. Salt crystals embedded into her dress helped to offset the cost of her quirk, but if she had to attach spheres of the stuff to her belt to add further aid… A Version Two would have to be in the works before she graduated, but until then she’d work with what she had, and what she had was a killer costume with a few secrets. Most notably, the salt stashed in its back, hidden from sight, but still within her influence.[break][break]
There. She felt better already.[break][break]
If the others didn't arrive early like she had, they would most likely find her deep into her yoga stretches. Her legs were stretched far enough apart for her to bend over and look between them, offering a small smile. “I’m feeling about ready to kick ass or die trying, if you are… Once we’ve settled on a plan of attack.” Both arms reached out as she drew herself upright, turning to face the group properly. Continuing to talk did nothing to stop her from warming up her arms and legs.[break][break]
“It’s a bit late, but just so we’re on the same page: my quirk, in layman’s terms, let me control most common types of salt. Make it into weapons or shields, lift objects, the works. I work best at a range, because this face is too pretty to take a hit. I’ve managed to go this far without it getting messed up, and I plan to keep it that way.”

Well this was maybe a team up she wouldn’t have expected the year before… if in part because one of her schoolmates hadn’t been all that active that year, but also because of… well, the issues she’d had with Kirk. In all honesty thinking about it made her chuckle a little, if only because of how stupid she’d been to get bogged down in it for so long. She really shouldn’t have been all that bothered at the end of the day but… a bad series of choice words had lead to what it did and now she was just thankful that she hadn’t ended a great friendship that day. Between their talk and… how he was a great part of the exhibition festival for her, helping remind her that as much as they were there to show off they could all still have a good time? Yeah… yeah she really was looking forward to working with Kirk again.~
As far as Emi went, she’d always had a kind of… fascination? No, too strong a word. At the very least she’d always found the girl interesting but she never felt she’d had enough experiences with her to develop anything more than a passing acquaintanceship with her. She was hoping she might get more of an excuse to hang out with her after all this was said and done if she was honest, but she’d just have to make sure she didn’t spoil that chance by being on her A game today and not making an ass out of herself.
Speaking of making an ass of herself… part of Yumi’s goal here today was to prove to herself she could beat Rookie mode as part of a team at the absolute least. Rookie mode wasn’t even definitively meant to be beaten by the end of a student’s third year but was more designed to act as a test to see how ready they were for the field before beginning their sidekick period under a hero. A final sports festival like event to give the heroes an idea of who they were taking under their wings. At least, that was how Yumi understood it. All the same, she had a personal goal to conquer this alone in the coming weeks to prove she’d come a long, long way since the start of her first year, and she was sure as hell they were gonna win today, if only so Yumi could prove to herself it was even doable.
Wearing her latest costume design, not too dissimilar from the previous models only with faint strips of gold outlining the electrical tracks of the suit’s design, Yumi strode out onto the small hall space before entering the fort itself, her utility belt fully equipped on her hips, mostly containing her electrical rods and a few first aid supplies. She knew fort slog could be rough afterall and as far as she was aware they had no official healers today so… better safe than sorry.
“Heheheh. That’s the attitude to take Emi.~” She chimed as the girl gave her initial battle speech so to speak before diving right into the details of her quirk. Yumi rested her arms together as she thought of how best to summarize herself.
“Well while Kirk has some upfront muscle I think we’re all range fighters today in some respect or another.” She recalled how even though Kirk definitely had in your face talent, her last battle with him had a lot of balls and the like being hucked at her from a distance to keep her own her toes. “I have the range of a solid sniper but I don’t want you guys taking shots for me either. With my electricity I can also manipulate metal to some extent, and my speed makes me hard to hit… maybe I should work as the team’s scout? Try and eliminate some trick obstacles ahead of the group to make a clearer path for the main efforts of any floor? I know from experience some of the challenges require us to rescue dummy civilians afterall and… well in a practice I can grab a dummy sure but in the real world-“ She activated her quirk, the suit containing and refining her charge, but her whole body, every exposed bit of skin like her fingers and her stomache coated in a fine layer of blue energy. “Yeeeah… probs best I don’t grab any of them, if we wanna keep the trials of the fort realistic…” She let her quirk fade out, her hair falling back down behind her. “I can fly, I’m speedy, I got range… all in all I say leave me to pot shot out the threats ahead of us. That’s probably where I’ll handle best."

Kirk was in the middle of his typical warm-up session, with his suit on and all his gear assorted, ready for the big one. Well, technically a team effort for the big one! Taking that this was basically the exercise that told them, whether or not they were ready for heroism at the end of it all, Kirk couldn't help but be hype as usual. Back when he was introduced to the whole concept, Kirk had been very skeptical. Why would they name something that was supposed to exciting and getting them ready 'fort SLOG'? It had confused him back then, and it still confused him now. On the other hand, his own visits to the place had always been a bit of a hard effort but no real dice. There was usually something he either ran out of or lacked to make it to the end. Whether it was just too many people to save (one of the more hardhitting things for a heroic mind), running out of ammo, or just something too far out of reach.
So of course, as usual, when problems got tough, you got bros to fall back to! Being invited into a group for this was pretty much a plan come true! And what a trio they were: Yumi, the big shot of his class, and Emi, one of those bros he had for a while felt like a co-op task was needed! In the case of Yumi, he had no worries at all really. He had seen her in action countless times. She could handle herself plenty well. Though to his knowledge, even she hadn't passed this exercise yet, in a mean sort of way a bit of a relief. Kirk had always been a bit worried about falling behind, and looking towards someone higher than you always had a risk of that.
But the bigger worry was towards Emi. Not really for the more clear reasons. She wasn't a top student of course, but she could do plenty well definitely! They had had that one proper spar that one time after all. No, he was more worried about how she would take it if they failed. It was a very coach like worry. With how worried she had been back at the fast food place, he felt like she needed a proper victory under her belt. And in that regard, Kirk had even more of a reason to give his best! Not that there ever was any doubt he wouldn't.
As the trio pretty much gathered to discuss things, whilst Emi and Yumi gave their own introductions, Kirk had a small moment to himself stretching his calves, and legs overall, from side to side, finishing it off with a stretch of his back and hands towards the skies! "MMMMMMMMMMMMMM-MMM!" Gearvise he was a little bit more stuffed than usual. Instead of holding a pair of rackets in his pouch, he had strapped them under his ammunition belt of sportsballs. Prior tries had shown him, how important the space in his pouch could really be. Just the hockey stick and pair of basketballs for heavier obstacles to clear took a lot of space. Baseball bat on top of that, he really needed to consider where to put his stuff...
However, Emi saying that she wouldn't be getting hit in the face, did get a bit of a chuckle. "I haven't been so lucky myself. Luckily though, I can take those hits!" He opened his pouch a little, like bit bulging sail. "Don't think it needs that much introduction. Just gotta make sure I have enough space in it for all the acrobatic jumping, and we are good!" A mass of muscles on your back didn't need that much explaining compared to Yumi momentarily going super whatsitcalled from tv, he thought. "Of course if civilian carrying is an issue, ain't anything better than me for it! In some regards I am pretty much a walking bunker!" He flexed a little jokingly.
For his bros though, he was already coming up with team-up things in his head for them! "Use that running ahead to spot the fellas we need to grab, and we should be able to snipe those hiding somewhere you can't shoot too! Just be careful not to get caught in the crossfire with all the bullets and balls bouncing around, hehe!" A gentle pat on the back for Yumi followed, and then he landed his hand on Emis shoulder. "That and uh... If I do ran out of ammo, I can count on using your salt rocks as some right? Nothing more awkward than not having anything on hand!" Pretty much a counter immediately to one of the situations he had troubles with. That's the power of a team sport!
"You guys ready? Let's get started then!"

Lasciate ogni speranza, voi ch'entrate
The grey iron door stood before the challengers, looming over them like the terrible fortress that it was. Oh, the weak and futile tumult that stood before them. They would learn, lo, they would learn the burden of their sin. The words hung over them, embossed into the gateway's ferrous skin, wrapped about the shape of giant skeletons made to seem to be gripping the doors. A final chance of retreat for the faint of heart and those found wanting. And, worse, an insult to those who had failed before. But that was not those that stood before it, steeled as they in their resolve. There was no going back; surely they would be the first to find purpose in futility. Mechanisms within groaned and fell with thunderous clamour, wailing as the doors ground against the floor beneath as they swung open, beckoning the challengers into the dark void beyond. The mighty gates would crash closed as soon as they entered, leaving them to bathe in the total darkness. Silent for all but the rumbling hum of machinery around them and whatever noises they themselves made, but only for a short few seconds.
Tink tink tink. Something scurried down the wall beside them, a single glowing robotic eye stared at them, but nothing more for then. In the darkness they would easily be able to see as another mote came alight in the distance, another, then another! Slowly, but surely whatever these things were would seem to crawl out ever crevice as the glowing green light of their eyes would slowly give a rough shape of the hallway before them. It seemed that the next doorway would lie about a hundred meters ahead.
They started to crawl forward in their cold curiosity, a rattling chorus of metal cried in the darkness. Emi would be the first to feel as the little robots started to drop from the ceiling, their spindly metallic legs finding easy purchase on the fabric of her suit! Soon, the lot of them would become distinctly aware of the metallic creatures falling and crawling upon them.

If knowledge was power, then a few minutes to chat brought them closer to being a fierce force. Each of their explanations earned a gentle nod from her; she’d picked up pieces and parts of their shtick over the year, but a poorly-assumed detail could have been the difference between success and failure. A failure she couldn’t afford to chance.[break][break]
“Good stuff, gang. You need anything special, just shout.” Her eyes flicked to Kirk in particular, seeing as they were bound to start sharing ammo during their run. Any further thoughts she might have wanted to voice were interrupted by gears grinding to life. The tower was ready for them. She hoped the reverse was true.[break][break]
“It’s about time that we went and made history.” And with that, she dashed into darkness.[break][break]
If Curved Lightning could shine brightly enough to light them a path, then Emi was sure that she wouldn’t need prompting to do so. Until then, the trio had little more than the sounds of the fortress for company, until- [break][break]
The artificial glow was their first warning. Then came the sounds. Somewhere in a booth, a teacher could watch Emi’s eyes go wide through their night-vision camera. Sounds of small, skittering somethings were hard to miss, and even harder to block out. She had no interest in finding out what they belonged to, but just as she began to break into a run, they rushed to greet her.[break][break]
“NOPE! Nope. Nah-no-not-going-getthemoffmeeeeeee,” the princess warbled. If they hadn’t been gifted with their sight by that point, then the girl’s yells and frantic footsteps would have to clue them in. They were no longer fully focused on moving forward – any direction was a valid option, so long as it meant she could free herself. Her arms were even more active than her legs, flailing to throw whatever legs poked her body off. If their hallway was narrow, there was no doubt she’d bump into a few walls before she managed to pull herself together.[break][break]
But, given a few seconds of stumbles and wailing she would quickly come to regret, focusing herself was within her capabilities. “They’re just robots! Just robots, right? Right. We’re good it’s all good don’t even worry about it.” A bold and panicked assumption, perhaps, based solely on the eye she had seen moments before. Even if it wasn’t true, the delusion could help her pull herself together until the truth came to light. Reminders of their goal forced their way through the fog of fear.[break][break]
Which way were they meant to go? Either Yumi’s light or her comrade’s footsteps would point the way for her, and she followed suit with haste. Not quietly, mind you. The sound of hands slapping against skin and suit never ceased, and all the while, Emi’s grumbled switched between crochety and mocking. “-fucking hate this bullshit-ass mite robot first year support studies dumbassedtry. I bet they think they’re so cute. ‘Oh look! Look teacher I made little friends that serve no purpose in saving lives! I’m so cool!’ This is why nobody likes nerds.”

As the doors of fort slog closed behind them Yumi had briefly been following Emi's lead, but with darkness enveloping them Yumi took a slow breath and tensed her muscles. Her blue energy coated her body, neon blue streaks lightning up along her costume, and the exposed skin sizzling with a thicker coating of it, generating a faint blue light around them. It didn't compete with say, a flashlight, but it kept them all within eachother's view at the very least, Yumi adjusting the goggles on her head. Typically they helped avoid eye-damage from the light of her own quirk but right now they were just making things worse for her to see, shifting them up ontop of her head through her subtly waving hair as electricity flowed through each strand, stepping deeper into the hallway.
"Seems to be a straight run ahead as far as I can-" She hesitated and backed off as she saw the first of the green eyes appear, tilting her head more curiously as she realized fort slog's randomized challenges hadn't just been extremely easy on her. She bit her tongue a little in frustration, before taking another staggered step back as the rest of the hall lit up. She wasn't too bad with insects but... the same didn't seem to hold true for Emi as she started to swat the little robo mites off of her as fast as she could. Yumi looked to Kirk, CLEARLY struggling to hold back her giggles behind Emi's back through this as she continued to slap the mites off her suit. Yumi could feel the same things crawling up her after a moment, but with a brief surge of electricity across her body, their metallic frames seemed to be repelled, dropping to the floor like a periodic bug zapper effect.
"Geeze, showing your true colors there Emi?~" She teased a little before stepping forward. She couldn't do much about the robots already in their area, her control wasn't that refined, but as she pushed out her electricity, she managed to create an electro-magnetic pulse through the hall ahead of them. Not enough to shut down the robots but at the very least it seemed to give them a good few feet of movement to move through, holding them back like a wave, building up against her electrical force that moved ahead with her. "Kirk, you mind swatting anything that makes it through? Emi maybe see if your salt can jam up their gears too. I don't want you burning your resources too soon but it'll help give us an idea if any of the future obstacles can be dealt with the same way...!"
It wasn't a huge effort, but it clearly gave her some strain to hold back the tidal wave of insect like robots, forcing them back with every step and taking slow, calm breaths to keep her focus up. The wall of force wasn't perfect of course, a burst of them getting through here or there where the effort became too much for her, Yumi just focusing on getting them to the other side of the hall.

"FOR HISTORY!" Overall, it was nice to see the team spirit was there! Everybody full on ready to help each other and what not! This should be a cakewalk if that was the case! Entering the room with usual bolster, Kirks energy stopped for a minute, as he tried to look at his surroundings... only to get a flash of darkness as the doors shut behind them. "Huh?!" For a while it was just this awkward darkness, before this little light shone at them. "Ah, robots!" With his thick skin, it took emis shouting for him to notice the little buggers skitting around on him. A quick slapping session occured, and shake of a leg. Kirk gave a bit of a glance at Yumi giggling. Come on... in the end she was the one who would have the easiest time getting rid of the smaller things, so it was a bit mean.
"Come on, dudettes! It ain't that bad!" He punched the little bugger looking at them on the wall. "This size lads ain't that much trouble unless they overwhelm us! And ain't nothing doing that when we are grouped up!" He patted the wall. "Overall, a really cramped space... Perfect for me!" Since they were now inside the area of testing, before he continued he stopped to think... "You know, makes it easy to..." He lifted his index finger and started pointing at the walls one at a time, before pointing at himself grinning. If some teacher was watching and controlling this, it was perhaps better to keep your plans more abstract than straight up blurt them out. A rare moment of foresight from him. "I'll shout a warning when I am about to do something like that, no worries!"
However, as Yumi requested for him to prepare to swat these bugs if any got through, he pulled out one of his bats, and proceeded to spin it over their heads. "This should prevent them from, you know, falling on us!" He pulled out his racket too, giving light swings across the air. "And I think this is good for swatting flies!" Admittedly, spinning his bat with one hand was kind of tiring, but it sure guaranteed that no bug would get through, kind of like a propeller.
"We do wanna keep a brisk pace though. If all these robot bugs are an annoyance to us, they ain't gonna be nice for the lads inside either!" Besides, it was just like, 300 feet anyways. They could easily make it to the door and open it stat! Although, it did make him wonder... "Almost like a haunted house this one. Kind of amazing how many variations this thing has."

With the cold glow of Yumi's light, it would be easy for them to notice the holes and crevices about the hall and the metallic bodies that ceaselessly poured from every direction, the very path they had tread before already teeming with a growing number of the little mites. They didn't seem to care or grow violent at the students' attempts to brush them off, or at least not at first. It would only be after Yumi had raised her shield. The light and sound of their little explosions would, no doubt, garner the attention of the prospective pathfinders.
POP! TINK! BANG! More and more did those sounds like holiday firecrackers fill the hall! It would quickly become apparent that the number of explosions simply outnumbered those they had already destroyed! As the sounds of exploding mites grew closer, the paths before and after them would become ever-more choked by the swarm of bots to such a degree they could no longer see the path ahead through the mounting pile of bodies.
Yet, those behind rushed forward in mindless curiosity, unperturbed as many of them were caught in their comrades' violent deaths. Eventually in the wake of an explosion a bit too close for comfort, a few of the metallic bodies would be shunted close to students, their limbs limp, but their eyes blinking a neon red. How much time they really had was up in the air, but it couldn't be long before the things blew up in their face!

The little beasts were meant to be harmless, but they’d prompted a blow to her pride that wouldn’t soon be forgotten… Even without her peers dragging it up. The luminescent lady brought relative peace of mind to her, reducing squeals and panicked missteps to quiet grumbles. “That does not leave this room,” was the last she said on the matter – sternly and sharply.[break][break]
Not that the fort’s provided her a chance to say much more. As she continued to (calmly!) brush herself free, and force salt grains into one of the mini-monster’s parts, the sound of metal being torn apart began to fill her ears. The explosions themselves were fine, but the number of them… They made her stray her eyes from the pests on her body, and towards the flood of them lighting the path ahead.[break][break]
Very. Aggressively. Lighting.[break][break]
She wasn’t leading their expedition, but a stray mite managed to fling itself to her anyway. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what its hostile flashing entailed. “Okay. Alright-okay-cool-coolcoolcoo….” There was a sense of urgency in her voice, but nothing near the fright they had heard moments before. In its place was a girl much closer to a mostly trained hero, visibly aware of the danger ahead, but unwilling to let it consume her. She wasted little time taking the critter and treating it to a Fastball Special. Whether or not it survived being thrown back into the mass mattered little to her; if the impact didn’t set it off, then the other explosions would.[break][break]
Golden eyes still darted about the room, but with more focus than frenzy, until- “You guys ever heard of a circuit breaker?” She didn’t wait for an answer, reaching for a pair of salt spheres at her waist. Each was flung to opposite sides of the wall, where they met the fate of most solid objects, when struck against a hard surface. They shattered, dissolving into countless white grains. Like sand, gravity willed the salt to find any and every crack and crevice in the swarm until they reached the ground.[break][break]
“Get the ones that are about to blow in front of us!” The rest, she hoped, would be explained by her quirk at work. Under Emi’s control, the salt solidified, creating a mound beneath the robots, far larger than the spheres it had come from. A third ball was thrown to join the construct; on impact, it also expanded to join the block. A gentle wave of her hand seemed to direct her creation, changing its shape from a haphazard pile to a wall, rapidly reaching from floor to ceiling, and determined to block their path ahead on the way…
Or, more specifically, the robot’s passage to them.[break][break]
Her other hand continued to swipe the rest of the bugs off her – they may not have been insects, but they sure as hell managed to feel like them. “This only works if all of the red ones are on the other side. Don’t let a single one stay here!” The pair had seconds to lob the would-be bombs over the barrier, just as the micro machines had seconds to try and scale the wall. Soon enough, the room would be sealed into two halves, split by a shield of crystals. Her finished work was mostly opaque, but the occasional translucent patch allowed the trio to make out what was happening on the other side… Though, between the sound what they’d already seen, they wouldn’t need to see much to know what happened next.

Yumi tried not to chuckle a bit as Emi behind her told them that her little freakout wasn’t going to be leaving the fort. Sure, she could agree to that, but while they were here she felt she at least was allowed a sly little giggle at the matter, not meaning to be purposely rude or anything just- “Hey you gotta admit that was a liiiittle funny.~” She chimed, not wanting to take down team morale or connectivity between the parts of their teamwork machine by focusing on it any more than that. With her magnetized barrier not being perfect a few of the robots were still leaking through, and as much as she trusted Kirk to get the majority of ‘em…
“GAGH!” Yumi jolted back, the sharp pain at her foot as one of the little firecracker bots went off forcing her to lower the initial barrier, making way for Emi to take her own turn on matters. Yumi was a little red in the cheeks herself as the energy coating her skin briefly faded to show the peachy tones of her skin again, letting Emi take the lead with her much more dense and effective wall of salt as Yumi pulled to the back for cleanup duty, watching the wall rise up and effectively put a countdown on their plan here.
“R-right. Got it Halo.” She chimed with a firm nod, looking about herself. Her blue energy surged across her skin and hair again, the ponytail zigging and zagging behind her a little more vigorously than before as she ramped up her charge, surging across the floor without harming her comrades more than perhaps a faint spasm if the sparks managed to hit their calves, and a harmless one at that. The tiny little robo mites slowly started to peel from the floor and collect amongst her electrical tendrels, pulling together in a rapidly condensing ball of metal and scrap. “Okay g- AH!” The ball nearly came apart as one of the mite’s exploded, gritting her teeth as she tried to keep the ball condensed despite the random bursts going on inside. She could arguably hold it together indefinitely if she focused but if too many went off at once it could end up just creating a metal-shrapnel grenade with all of them trapped behind the salt wall with it. Focusing solely on holding the ball together, she looked off to Kirk and his sports equipment. “Hey Kirk, mind sending this one over the fence?~” She chimed with a playful smile.

Post by Kirk Bluster on Nov 3, 2020 8:59:57 GMT -4
Kirk visibly flinched a little with the sudden grunt of pain from Yumi and quick snap of an explosion, with his eyes immediately turning towards her. "What was that?!" The tone in the air changed drastically. Instead of a slow walk to the door, the group visibly realized the sheer amount of these robots. The red eyes blinking in the darkness pretty much signified, that getting to the door would be a little bit harder than expected. Atleast without proper preparation. However, Emi had an idea! "Circuit what now?" He watched on, shaking off bugs from himself, as Emi threw these salt grenades. He had seen her utilize them before in a spar they had... and sort of realized what she was going for. As the big salty wall grew in between them, Kirk nodded in approval. "Oh, I get what you are going for!"
With Emi requesting them to get all the red ones out on to the other side, Kirk gave a good ol warm up shaking of his body, to get the bugs off. With Yumi gathering them into this big ol ball of metal and electricity, neither needed to tell him what to do next! "Oh I getcha bro! Let me handle it!" He quite roughly grabbed the ball, gave a moment to look at the wall, and like a proper basketball player, shot it through the upper side, socking it in like a proper pro! However, with these bots being explosive as they were, it was pretty clear too many of them would cause the whole barrier in itself to break. So, before that could happen, Kirk snapped his fingers! "Okay, back off a little, time for a double play!"
As he landed from his basket ball throw, He pulled one of his legs back, turning his torso to face its side towards the salty wall! "Handling them all in one go!" And with that, he took full charge towards the wall with his shoulder bashing against it! The plan was simple: Make the wall grind backwards for enough for it to be safe, squashing all of the bots into a tight bundle, and let the bomb do the rest! And what was the name of the plan? Well, Kirk was happy to tell you!
"FOOTBALLERS BOMBASTIC ASSALT!"
However, as he let the makeshift wallbuster fly off on it's own, he turned his back against it, and opened his pouch wide, blocking any debris or the sort that would come! Whatever it was, it was gonna be loud! And as soon as it passed, he would simply ask a question. "Did it work?"

The mitey drones were ceaseless in their mindless pursuit, and even as Emi's wall trapped more and more of what must have been the now hundreds of the buggers, more still poured over the growing barrier. the wall writhed as metallic feet and bodies squirmed to free themselves from Emi's saline solution. Even trapped in their prison the legs writhed and knocked loose what loose grains they could, but their fight was futile. Waves of metal crashed over the barrier, flailing and turning too and fro as their little gyros desperate tried to align themselves towards the students, their spindly legs flailing as they tried to get a grasp on the air before them, like a stream of particles pulled into Yumi's electromagnetic field! Bits and pieces of the exploding robots tore into their packed neighbors, setting off yet more and more of the swarm, and even as Kirk handled the ball with expert skill, it threatened to fly apart at any moment! He could feel little pieces of shrapnel tear through and dig into his skin as cursed splinters, drawing from his palm the slightest rivulets of blood!
Dozens of the mites would be crushed against the ceiling as the wall rose to its full height at Emi's whim The wall shuddered with the boy's might, groaning and grinding against the ground as Kirk fought both friction and the army of robots behind it! After what must have felt like half a minute of pushing and straining against a sumo wrestler, Kirk would be brought to a halt with a sudden thud!
It would only be a matter of seconds before the muffled blasts of the metal swarm started to sound through Emi's wall like a furious bag of popcorn! Motes of salty dust would start to fall as the cavalcade sounded, each blast threatening to bust through, yet the wall would hold firm! Yet, as soon as it started, it seemed to die
Should the wall be dropped at this point, mountains of shrapnel and salt dust would pour to the floor, revealing behind it a bruised and sorch-pocked door. Only a few of the mites would remain, barely managing to scrape by with the slightest damage or the loss of a few limbs.
A mighty hiss would signal the students' passing, the damage causing it to spark as it forced itself open. A sterile white light poured through, revealing an empty room, save for a pillar in the middle of the room from which hung chains and cuffs of steel.
After this was the door to the next room, upon which was the image of a man, his arms chained, his head hung low in stoic acceptance to reveal a single word:

A mineral barrier, a lightning lure and weaponized sports. Hopefully their observer would appreciate how quickly each of their styles revealed themselves – and how quickly they’d managed to integrate them with each other’s. Surely, such adaptability could only be the result of years of training, and would stand to show how far they’d come.[break][break]
Not that Emi had any time to consider that. Between the sparks niggling at her feet, a rapidly-forming wall and a general lack of interest in having a mite explode on her, she had a few other things on her plate. Not helping matters was the slight issue of the wall not being enough, but where her wall failed, her teammates were more than eager to pick up the slack. The end result wasn’t much of a sight, mostly blocked by the salt wall, but the shudders and splinters of wall falling off was enough. The construct’s master kept a palm outstretched, as if she could will it into being sturdier than her limits allowed…[break][break]
Luckily, she didn’t have to test that (yet). Kirk’s battering ram blow meant that even if the wall had crumbled, the distance kept them safe from harm, to say nothing of his own shield. Once the blasts had subsided, the wall dissolved, like sand suddenly met with a crashing wave. The only thing that had sustained real damage, it seemed, were the fort’s machinations.[break][break]
The girl let out a breath she hadn’t realised she’d been holding. Congratulations were in order, but they’d come after she gave herself a small smile. One problem overcome, even if they knew the fort had much worse in store. One challenge she’d been able to assist with, just as much as the others.[break][break]
One embarrassing freak-out, but hopefully they would forget about that quickly. Hopefully.[break][break]
They had no time limit, no need to rush, any yet the urge was there all the same. As it happened, having one’s fears exploited was a great way to get the blood pumping, and adrenaline coursing through the body. “Wew. That was pretty good, right?” She started walking, a spring in her step, aiding and emphasizing the self-assured student’s image. “Good start, at least. If that was round one…”[break][break]
Sense prevailed over emotion, or perhaps it was the whispers in her head taking control again. Whatever it was, it prompted her to stop short of making her way through the door, turning to the others. “Maybe I shouldn’t be the first one going through. Just in case. I’ll hold up the back.” Letting the doubt show on her face wasn’t Emi’s style, but in her voice? A little would let slip, thanks to the thought of roaches waiting in the wings.

Yumi let out a breath of her own as Kirk knocked her compressed ball of exploding popcorn robots over the mineral wall and into a safe space for them to handle, thankful for Emi’s quick thinking on the matter with that, and as the tension seemed to be relieved she rested a hand on the girl’s back just in silent congratulations for the effort she’d made in thinking of that little string of moves on the fly, not wanting to spoil the moment too much and just letting victory hang in the silence. She was sure Kirk would be the best one to break it with a bombastic cry of victory anyway. Why steal his thunder?~
With the next door opening up Yumi rolled her shoulders back. “Alright, can’t breathe easy for too long. Even if we’re gonna be the first team to beat this it won’t hurt to also establish a nice record worth beating too.” She offered a warm smile to each of them, hoping that’d act as some encouragement to not just beat this place but to trounce it as best they could… though those eager sensations did fall a little flat when they were presented with the next room. It was far from anything she could have expected.
Emi moved ahead, going right for the door but pulling herself short. A good move in Yumi’s eyes. The room was blindingly white but the art on the door and the chains on the pillar made the white nature just all the more ominous. She needed to take a slow breath just to keep her nerves level… something about it all was just throwing her off. Really wasn’t something she was expecting to see in this place.
“I… I think we need to do something with the chains.. I mean-“ She gestured to the art on the door and the presumably latin spelling of ‘sacrifice’. “I’m gonna assume one of us needs to do the obvious. Hook ourselves up but… well, suffice to say this seems a little dark for a training situation…”
She considered thrings for a moment before letting out a hard breath and striding towards the pillar. Choice seemed pretty obvious to her. “Welp. Push comes to shove this isn’t the first time I’ve been in handcuffs.” No she wouldn’t elaborate. “Besides, if this locks me up I can still fire blasts from my feet or something, I should still be able to help…” She gestured towards Kirk. “Mind giving me a leg up while I see if these things fit?”
If none of the team stopped her, Yumi was fully ready to chain herself up and see what happened.

The booming sounds of the robots popping like popcorn was certainly a satisfying implication! The wall was firm, and the look on Kirks face was tight with his wide grin! He turned towards his companions, pointing at the wall with his thumb! "Now THAT is what I call teamwork!" He gave a brief clap of his hands for the group, only to visibly flinch a bit with a mild "Ow!"! He proceeded to look at his hands, which were covered in a bit of salt... and very tiny bleeding wounds from the metallic ball of crumbled up automatons. "Sorry! Sorry! Just salt in the wounds. Just regular ol salt in the wounds!" He tried to clean the salt onto his thighs with a bit of a disgruntled look on his face, before shaking it off, and clapping his face. "Let's keep moving! Gotta keep up the pace if we wanna make those records Yumis talking about after all!"
However, instead of being met by something like that, this time... it was a simple room with a pillar in the middle, with chains and handcuffs. "You know, explosive bug bots have the air of insane scientists about them, but this is kind of ridiculous! I think we are in some sort of dr frankensteins castle." He shrugged. Admittedly, it was very possible with villains to have this sorts of strongholds. And taking that they needed to prepare for anything, it made sense the hardest challenge for them would be something big like that. Perhaps Kirk had watched enough movies to not be that jumpy about it, before something actually happened? Made sense for a guy whose first reaction to seeing his zombified teacher was to ask it a question and throw a taunt at it.
...The need of a sacrifice just brought his mind to carver flicks though. "I honestly am not sure if it's a good idea to follow what the villain is telling us to do. Seems like an easy trap, you know?" On the other hand, it didn't seem like they really had a choice... other than maybe trying to break through the door. But the more he thought about it and scratched his head... "Eh, to heck with it! lemme help!" He had gotten in trouble pretty many times for being too rash and headstrong. Maybe they could just play along for a moment. "Maybe you can just like... try to break the chains off the rock afterwards? Give a good yank, give a bit of an explosion?" Something maybe to get her off of it later. Maybe even he could do it? or... "Emi could definitely make a crank with that salt of hers to crack em off from the foundation!"
As she was chained onto the wall, Kirk proceeded to look at the sight, and combed his hair with his fingers. "Well... now we just wait till something goes wrong or right! I guess..." He took a bit more ready stance trying to look from one corner of the room to the next, to see if anything was happening, or if the door would just open. However, he did have something on his mind. "I do have to admit, I always thought Darren or Jasmine would be the sort to get in trouble with the police out of the school." His hand went over to his jaw, as he gave a bit of a chuckle. "You know, temper issues!" A bit of a friendly jab. Admittedly, if even one of those two was here, they would have definitely tried to break open the door. And probably gotten smacked in the face by whatever trap was in there waiting.
