The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ Chi-chirup~ Chi-chirup~ A small device on a countertop chirping and quivering away as it tried to plead for the attention of someone who wasn’t currently all that interested in it right now, whilst in an ideal world the young mistress of a lab would have turned her head to greet the sound of her telephonic apparatus trying to warn her of an imminent meeting with rather a noticeable figure, unfortunately the current world wasn’t ideal for the pink haired young scientist who blissfully ignored her alarm without issue. Or perhaps maybe it was too ideal for her? Chi-chirup~ Chi-chirup~ I see… Offering far too much of her attention to the twin scopes that allowed her to view the level known to most as the micro-scale to ever pay attention to some silly little alarm, Sophie Sequoia hummed to herself softly and slightly in time with the little tune that her little device was making as she peered through a stack of lenses that took things that were close to the atomic level and made them visible to the human eye, and paid not the blindest bit of notice to the alert or how time had passed by as she was peeking at slides that fascinated her so. Chi-chirup~ Chi-chirup~ Now isn’t that interesting? This how she had begun to spend her days and on some occasions even her nights as well, and honestly not minding that fact one little bit, as she watched small beings that were barely more than a single cell busy themselves on a scale that what make the width of a human hair seem positively titanic she was happy, for the most part. This was her passion, and no one or no thing was stopping her from doing what she loved. If that wasn’t enough to fill her with bliss then what would be? There was just one thing though. Chi-chirup~ Chi-chirup~ I feel like… I’ve forgotten something? A little nagging thought in the back of her head seeming to eat away at her consciousness on some level, even as she basked in the microscopic level this brainy beauty couldn’t help but feel as if there was something wrong right now, and as engaged as she was that left her just a mite unsettled. Something not quite right, like she had left the stove on in another room or was seeming to have forgotten that she had come out with odd shoes upon her feet, things weren’t quite relaxed as they might normally be and that bugged the girl, though not quite enough to make her get up and check her phone. What a terrible host she could be when she was busy, hm…?

Well this was… awkward.
Mia had gone to Nimue originally since she was struggling to control her quirk and didn’t want word getting out there. Nimue had mentioned that since it didn’t seem to be a drug in her system or anything of the like it was a little out of her realm of expertise and had potentially suggested a second opinion from a more trained specialist. Mia hadn’t taken her up at the time but… low and behold, a few weeks later the government had her on probation and it was a bit of a public disaster. They’d of course stepped in a bit, hearing Nimue needed her to be seen by someone more specifically trained in quirk research and… well, here she was, in the waiting room of some wing of a research facility or maybe some fancy hospital she didn’t recognize or whatever. She’d have to ask which when the woman finally saw her.
She rested back in the couch and just… waited, her head tipped back, wearing some cargo pants, a black tank top, and over that a loose fitting overshirt. She couldn’t wear her hero gear everywhere afterall and it wasn’t like there were many fashionable options that would fit her. Heck the tank top was probably designed for some lardass or something rather than her tall yet beefy frame, but it fit well all the same so why complain. For now she was just getting herself comfortable, even closing her eyes for a bit as she let the moments fly by and just waited for someone to call her name…
Wasn’t happening.
After what felt like a short nap, about 20 minutes past her scheduled appointment, Mia narrowed her gaze at the clock on the wall, even double checking her phone to see if either of them were slow or fast by comparison but… no. She was keeping time. Didn’t seem like many other people were waiting either, and even then probably not for the exact same person. She rose up and turned to the small reception desk, leaning over it and trying to keep a soft voice so she didn’t come off intimidating or anything. “Hey er… I’m waiting for Dr seck-oy-ah right?” She asked, still not sure if she was pronouncing that right. The young man at the reception was pretty pleasant, saying it wasn’t unusual for things like this to run late, but with a bit of prodding Mia ended up getting the room number, heading through the halls herself and careful not to bump into any sensitive equipment that had been left mid-transfer in any of the halls or, ya know, bumping into other people either.
Arriving at the spare room, she carefully opened up the door, spotting the pinkette buried in her work, knocking on the door with the back of her spare hand, ready to leave if she’d gotten the wrong room. “Er… Dr Sequoia?” She’d ask, glancing to the chirping phone and pointing to it. “I’m… GUESSING that’s about me.”

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ Chi-chirup~ Chi-chirup~ And if I were to- Face still buried in her microscope as the burly blonde approached her humble mix of an office and a laboratory in which Miss Sequoia tended to sequester herself, as she tweaked her focus and then picked up a needle nosed puppet it felt like this focused femme was on the verge of some kind of breakthrough, but for the moment would be afforded no kind of opportunity to pursue it. “Oh goodness!” The sudden and unexpected tap on her door seeming to create enough of a distraction for the scientific siren to squeak and finally peel herself away from the eyepieces that she was so engrossed in and look around her lab to see what the commotion was, and honestly when she did so the blue eyed beauty was somewhat astounded by what she found waiting for her. “Hello, can I…?” Those sapphire irises locking on a large shape that seemed to have appeared in her doorway, for a second or two Sophie stared and wondered what was going on as her mind tried to catch up with reality, or at least pull enough of her attention away from the task that she was so occupied with to engage it. Lashes fluttering of the face of the suddenly flustered young scientist as she tried to assess what was going on around her, as her notice was drawn toward the phone which was continuing to beg her for the interest of the brainy beauty, everything seemed to come together in her mind. “Oh right!” Chirping suddenly as everything finally made sense to her and hopping onto her heels a moment later because of this, Miss Sequoia’s eyes grew wide and a hint of pinkness sprouted in her cheeks as she realized that she had completely forgotten both about the appointment she had made for today and the visitor with who it had been made, which was quite the faux pas really. It not every day that someone at the pinnacle of quirk society came to visit her after all, with a mild blush the vixen from Vancouver scooped up her phone and silenced the alarm before scurrying over to greet this glorious golden-haired giantess, all while hoping she wasn’t too upset about her little lapse of recollection there. “Yes! Mia, wasn’t it?” Slipping her phone into the pocket of her lab coat once it had been brought to stillness once more and trotting to her door in order to open it more fully, now that she was a bit more in the moment and a bit less in her microscope everything was starting to catch up with the brainy blond, and she showed off her impressive mental faculty by remembering the name of the woman she was meeting right now quickly. “Call me Sophie~” Also quick to correct the assumption of her guest that she needed to be referred to by her surname or some sort of title as well, whilst it was true to that she was a doctor in a technical sense it always felt weird for the curious Canadian to be referred to as such in a setting she wished to remain relaxed, and she was eager to make sure that her guest felt comfortable. After all, things were going to get somewhat intimate between them, weren’t they?

Seems she’d really caught the doc off guard, the blonde woman shifting in her seat a little more urgently and with a mild blush once she realized she must have missed her appointment, Mia just letting the door hang open and shifting to rest her shoulder against the doorframe as she waited for the woman to get a grip on reality around herself again. She was still definitely more than a little miffed about waiting so long, especially when it seemed like the doc clearly forgot about their appointment given her surprise but… eh. Watching her briefly catch herself like that was almost worth it.
“That’d be my name aye.” She unfolded her arms and offered her hand across for a little introductory shake. “Not one of those who sticks to the whole ‘doctor’ thing huh? That’s new. Usually I hear you lot correcting me on that.” She held a half smirk, still feeling a little nervous and awkward for why she was here and just generally trying to keep herself a little more focused, taking a slow, deep breath through her nose and bringing back her hand once they’d had an introductory shake, rubbing at the back of her neck. “So er… how much you know about why I’m here?”

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Ah good, for some reason I wanted to say ‘Maya’ at first, but I knew that wasn’t right?” Tilting her head slightly and speaking with a slightly dreamy sense of breeziness as her subject confirmed her name, Miss Sequoia couldn’t help but wonder why some nagging part of her mind seemed to steer her in a direction that she knew was wrong, and yet for some reason felt so right at the same time to her. “Hopefully having a face to the name will allay such an error in future?” The oddities of the mind rather fascinating at times and perhaps intriguing enough that the young scholar might have found herself studying psychology or neurology in another version of her life, she innocently confessed her mental mistake with little issue of embarrassment as she beckoned for the burly beauty to enter her lab more fully, and then gestured toward a chair for her to sit on as their conversation continued. “I don’t really see the sense in stuffy formality, really?” Shaking her head when her fellow femme pointed out the absence of formality with which she seemed to conduct their greeting, as she tucked a few stray strands of her bright blonde hair behind her ear the brainy belle could see nothing wrong with approaching a potential patient on their level, and honestly found the practice of sticking to educational designations to be somewhat archaic and stifling to all if she was honest. “Those that wave their titles around always feel far too obsessed with their sense of one-upmanship to me?” Certainly there perhaps the odd situation here and there where maybe the show of a bit of authority was useful but for the most part such habits seeming more dedicated to pruning of the ego than anything, since Sophie was happier to befriend the people she found fascination in than dominate or talk down to them it only seemed natural to speak to them in a friendly fashion, and as such felt no reason to stand atop some potentially daunting title when dealing with people. Even if she was proud of the fact she had earned a doctorate, there were usually far more interesting aspects of conversation out there than the word they used to refer to her, wasn’t there? “Well I have your notes from Nimue, she’s quite thorough…” Nodding next when the woman who some knew as the ‘Red Horn’ questioned her level of understanding for the little visit that had found Mia waiting on her doorstep, after slipping into a wheeled office chair Miss Sequoia guided the mouse on her desk to find the digital case file she had on the woman before her and opened it up, but for the moment did not spend all that much time scrutinizing it. “However, given the nature of the issue…” Familiar with the contents of it because of how the marvellous medic of the hero school had sent it to her in advance and provided ample time to peruse it, while it would have been easy for the blonde biologist to pluck some data from it in order to form the basis of her examination it felt like her guest was due more respect than that, and also the chance to develop a little more comfort in her company as well. “Perhaps it’s better if you tell me what’s wrong?” This their first meeting and the issue at hand feeling a little like it made a woman as mighty as this just a little bit meek because of it, though Sophie had her theories as to the issue thanks to the comprehensive notes of her colleague she wasn’t the sort to make assumptions too readily, and also showed a hint of consideration toward her ‘patient’ as she did so. “I’d love to get your perspective on it?” This woman the sort who was used to fighting for a living given her lofty status among the pro heroes that had been born in this country recently, no doubt the intimacy of an examination might be the sort of thing that might make her feel vulnerable, and that was something that the blue eyed beauty did not want, and as such elected to ease her into things rather than leap into the deep end because of that…

“Nah. Nah. Mee-ah.” She affirmed to make sure the other woman knew how to pronounce her name. Really she wasn’t the kind to get too pissy when her name was misprounced, only tended to react if someone called her Miss Kearney or Ma’am when she didn’t find it appropriate. Seemed the woman across from her wasn’t too big on formalities either so Mia would do her the same courtesy of calling her by her plain old name. “Gotcha on that front though. Really im not a huge fan of the fancy titles myself. Only really go with ‘Red Horn’ to stick to all those official government guidelines they give us heroes… plus it’s simple. Iconic. Gotta say I’m kinda enjoying it…”
She gave a small shrug and a gentle sigh, not sure how she was feeling about the small talk but it did briefly let her feel at ease she supposed, easing the door closed behind her and running her free hand back through her hair, her eyes drifting across the floor as she just stood there in quiet thought. Her eyes finally catching the offered chair she’d respond with a slow nod before moving to take a seat. She briefly thought on the woman’s comment on one-upmanship and… well she supposed she could be guilty of that. While she kinda hated how her top rank was just earned through sheer popularity, it wasn’t like she rubbed it hard in anyone’s face, but given it was a title she’d worked hard for it wasn’t like she didn’t hold some pride in it, even if it wasn’t exactly the way she would have liked to earn it.
“Well a bit of a title drop here or there doesn’t hurt, but yeah, no need to stick to formalities all the time…” She’d drop with a cheeky chuckle, lowering her head a little and just breathing tensely. She wasn’t exactly in the most comfortable position right now afterally, given why she was here, so finding a true sense of comfort even now that she’d taken a seat was pretty difficult. She’d lift her eyes back up as Nimue’s notes were mentioned, not having heard too much directly from them on what they’d discovered… just that it wasn’t some weird drug in her blood doing this. “Oh yeah? What ya get from that?” She’d idly ask… before the woman asked a mildly infuriating question. Mia just… scoffed and hung her head in disbelief.
“What? The constant news cycle of ‘pro hero goes on rampage’ not tell the story enough for ya?” She lifted herself up, frustration blowing away her nerves at least for the moment as she idly gestured to the door behind her, though moreso meaning to gesture to the concept of the world outside this room. “I can’t do my damn job without the risk of turning into a raging red monster. I think that pretty much sums it up.” She tried hard not to raise her voice but… this had been frustrating enough when it was an issue she alone was suffering. Now that it was just.. ‘out there’, it was a lot harder for her to really hold a grip on.

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Various inconsequential details and perhaps a few gems as well…” Smirking at the interest that her ‘patient’ seemed to show in the notes she had on her screen, perhaps for the sense of putting Miss Kearney at ease Sophie opted to take a slightly playful approach to her she responded to her inquiry, and found herself giving a little smirk as she offered a response that was tinged with a little bit of mischief. “For instance, is it true that those beautiful biceps are twenty four inches around?” Ultimately wanting this woman to feel as comfortable as possible with her both because of her hope that having her as a subject might prove fruitful but also due to the nature of the problem as she understood it, it felt like something of a sensitive issue and the science-lover thought it was best to take the lightest and most down to earth approach to the matter that she could in order to keep their conversation as stress free as possible. “Hehehehe, well I’d think my first impression might tell you that I tend to get a little wrapped up in my work?” This the reason that her manner might have seemed a little bit flippant as the conversation got a little more ‘business’ related, even though Miss Sequoia was not the keenest observer of the human condition in the world she could readily sense the frustration that her fellow femme felt toward the issue, and in her own way was trying her best not to seem all that judgemental about it. “I could hardly peel myself away from my work long enough to give Japan’s top hero the welcome she deserves, now could I?” Instead preferring to point out her own flaws rather than allow Mia the chance to labour to long on what others might see as her own, the blue eyed beauty was happy to delve into self-deprecation to perhaps prompt a smile from the woman she shared her workplace with currently, especially given the current climate. “So not exactly the sort who might be up to date with the latest hot goss, I’m afraid?” It seeming a natural fact of the modern world that the media would offer plenty of criticism for anyone in its spotlight the very second that they took a step wrong, the brainy blonde did not wish to make herself seem like she was jumping on the bandwagon to offer reproach to the Red Horn, and honestly she wasn’t. “Besides, I like to delve into matters with a little more inherent fact within them than most tabloids can manage?” That didn’t feel like her place, as someone who preferred the comfort of a lab to the front lines of battle, and as such hoped her disregard for the opinion of the news would at least soothe a little bit of the prickled feelings that this poor woman might have been experiencing lately. “A rampage though? Sounds like quite the pickle to find yourself in, Mia? Must have been awful…” Certainly more sensitive to the condition of her subject’s psychological state than she would want to let on initially, given the nature of what had seemed to happen to her and the aftermath there definitely seemed to be more going on with this change than simple physiology, no matter how much it had been altered, and while the matters of how the mind worked weren’t exactly her speciality it felt like it was due some concern. “Is that… The only time this sort of thing has happened to you?” As such her attempt to get her patient to talk about her own experiences and perhaps process them a little better something that was a little more shrewdly aimed than Sophie might have otherwise revealed, she attempted to employ a few principles of psychology as their little session continued through its introduction, hoping that shedding light upon the mentality involved would be as illuminating for the woman before her as it was the quirkologist who felt such curiosity about it…

Mia blinked at the compliment, taking a second to really process it. She’d been so on edge with all this she hadn’t even noticed the idly flirty comment about her muscles. Though… even then she could be misinterpreting things. On the off chance she could, she lifted one of her bare arms, a little bit of nerves in her voice but perhaps a slither more at ease thanks to the woman’s comment. “Oh well er…” She lifted her arm up beside her head, flexing in the typical pose, as ya do, and rubbing at the side of her head with her free hand. Her bicep held a pretty firm definition on it’s own even as she just naturally flexed. “Never measured ‘em personally but… Guess it depends how Fesity I get.” She clenched her fist a little tigher, and her muscles expanded in a shuddering motion, her flesh seeming like it was quaking for a moment as the muscles beneath the surface expanded and grew out, and as she released her fist, lowering her arm back to her lap, it slowly flowed back down to her normal, if still fairly beefy state. “But…heh. Guess I can hit that number pretty easily from the look of things.” She hoped she didn’t kill the mood if that HAD been flirty… honestly, woman before her was not what she was expecting when she came here to see ‘Dr Sequoia’ but… hey if she was gonna be a bit miserable about her own quirk, may as well do it with a view…
At the comment of getting wrapped in her work though, it certainly helped keep the mood light, Mia nodding along with a light scoff. “Eh I mean I guess I’m the same, but my own work tends to be a lot more… actiony, to begin with. Heck part of my job to notice my surroundings, but I guess that’s not the same for every profession.” She idly gestured to the work that she’d found Sophie buried in, by no means judging. If anything she related to it a bit… even if their professions were different they could both easily get lost in them. Mia was just kinda… missing the opportunity to do that herself right now. But probation wouldn’t last forever, even if it felt like it might. She scoffed again at the top hero comment, shaking her head. “I hold pride in that title sure but… don’t worry I’m hardly one to expect special treatment…”
Her outburst about her circumstance would still come all the same, it wasn’t a pleasant thing to remember and having such a blatant question about her situation thrown at her when it should have been all over the news… it wasn’t something she could brush off on a gut instinct. She tried to calm down though, leaning back in her seat with a slow breath as she eased up a bit, her shoulders slacking to each side. “Ain’t exactly hot goss but-“ Honestly she shouldn’t question it, but… yeah. She wasn’t even sure some news cycles had even begun to give up on that yet. It had been a rough time to say the least…
“I’ll give you the tabloids though… and no. I assume Nimue and… whatever government big wigs got involved here here told you that the public story ain’t exactly true. As far as everyone is concerned, the quirk of that criminal I was facing set my off but… that’s far from true. It’s been a long standing problem.” She idly flexed her hand in and out of a fist before letting it fall with a bit of a defeated breath. “It didn’t used to be what it is now. I used to just… when I was pushing my limits my skin would turn a harsh red. Turn dry and leathery. I could punch harder than normal but… it was my limit. That burst of strength I pulled out in a dire situation but… it’s changed.”
She leaned deeper back against the back of her chair, the frame of it squeaking a bit with her dense weight. “The red shit has been spreading out of nowhere. Like when I get angry or just… when I get into a fight im ‘enjoying’. The more red my skin gets the harder it is to calm down and… before fighting Muramasa, it happened once. A goon of a criminal was outpacing me and beating me down and… eventually all my body went Red. I don’t remember much after that. He survived but… he was so terrified of me when I came to that he just handed himself in.”

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Oh, and just what kinda special treatment do you think I give, hm~?” Scoffing and even rolling her eyes playfully as the Red Horn mentioned some kind of higher level of accommodation from her, while she wasn’t exactly sure if the comment was meant in a playful or flirtatious way Sophie couldn’t help but respond to the matter for a moment if she had, and lifted her hand up and stroked the skin just beneath her lower lip as she waited for her patient to respond to the humour she tried to share with her. “I suppose I might be able to find you a lollipop for when we’re done, at the very least?” Still very conscious of the fact that her fellow femme felt no small degree of frustration with her current circumstances and it feeling like that shouldn’t be something she should have been given more time than was necessary to dwell on, the siren of science tried her best to give her at least a small reason to smirk as something of a distraction from the graveness of the matter at hand, and hoped she might deter the worst of her dark thoughts by doing so. “Hmmmm… I see…” Not quite so talkative when they got more into the meat of the matter, as the facts were laid out to her the fox focused upon them wholly, Miss Sequoia’s bright blue eyes narrowing and her gaze seeming to drift into the middle distance as she digested the information as it was relayed to her, and she gave at best simple phrases of encouragement to Mia to continue as she bathed in the information she was given. Loss of cognitive function and a physical change… How unusual? Internalising the concepts quickly as was her nature as an introvert, as she jotted down what seemed to be the key points of what this titan of a woman was telling her the brainy blonde turned the issue over in her head, and tried to make sense of it from as many angles as she could think of. The quirk; Oni, it’s generally classed as a mutation, isn’t it? The experience that was described to her by this giant of a girl certainly not a pleasant one and for that the young woman having the fullest sympathy that Sophie could offer, that intellectual instinct that she possessed forced the beautiful biologist to marvel over the data she was receiving perhaps a little too much, and she grew quieter still as her subject continued to talk. So a transformative effect would be uncommon, but… Not wholly unheard of? Most assuredly what was offered by this bewildered heroine sure to dent diagrams and knock off the patterns that people had been attesting to in the classification of these gifts but that nothing new, whilst it was a rarer from someone to experience a ‘mix up’ of qualities from the types of quirk that had been published for official guidance it did occur from time to time as things simply seemed to defy classification, and to this scholar was fascinating. However, her curiosity would probably not be much of a comfort for the woman it was focused on, unfortunately. “From what you’re telling me, it sounds like stress is the trigger for what follows…?” Staying quiet for several seconds as she wrestled with the issue in her head and as she perhaps expected did not find many obvious or easy answers to it, Miss Sequoia lifted her head from the page of notes she had made and brushed away her blonde bangs from her eyes as she focused on her fellow femme again, though knew already that her first advisement was probably not what she wanted to hear. “So I feel I should ask… Have you considered a change of career?” The simplest method often the best one for dealing with a problem and in this case that being the mere ability to remove Mia from stimuli that might have given her a reason to endure her frustrating problem again, even though the academic angel found herself flooded with doubt when she suggested finding something to do with her life that did not involve fighting with it she felt she would also have remiss to not suggest it, and as such broached the matter of retirement immediately even if she knew they would probably move on from it rather speedily soon…

“Well I wasn’t exactly expecting anything but I know how some big names can get people to run round for them.” She idly folded her arms as she leaned back into her chair, lifting a hand briefly to scratch at the side of her cheek. She hadn’t personally been expecting much but she did know from some pseudo experience how much a name can pull strings sometimes. Sure with the pro hero business being a fresh thing it wasn’t like she was the biggest celeb in the world, but she expected if she used it right she could still get a few things out of title alone. Though the comment on a lollipop did have her chuckling a little. “Apple flavour, if ya’ve got one.”
She tried to relax after her brief outburst, though the first comment made on her situation earned a light bit of a correction. “Not stress. I mean if it was just stress I’d be turning Red every day at this rate… it’s anger. Frustration or just… wanting a good fight. It’s not even just negative emotions. Sometimes the thrill of a fight just… crawls under my skin.” She hung her head back in a sense of defeat, letting out a frustrated puff of steam from her nostrils and trying to keep a smoother flow of breath. Though… her ears did twitch at the comment of a change of career.
She slowly brought her head back down forward, her red eyes taking on a duller shade that almost seemed to make it appear sharper, like her black pupils were highlighted in an almost bright shade in the midst of her red gaze. Her arms were folded a little more tightly around her chest. To her being a hero was everything. It was her outlet when she was young and it was her calling now. Sure her quirk could be used elsewhere, she had a license and it wasn’t like anyone could stop her being naturally strong and large…. But she wasn’t ever planning to be anything else.
“No.” She replied, bluntly and firmly.

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Apple, huh? Interesting…” Raising her brow and smirking at the choice that Mia made for her sweet treat at the end of this, Miss Sequoia glanced down at the sheet she was making her notes on and copied her demand onto it before ringing it, but for no real reason. Mostly mentioning the lollipops as a means of making the woman smile and her act more one of whimsy to continue that trend, though her behaviour was that of someone who might have found the decision more telling than she let on for the most part the blue eyed beauty was just pulling the leg of the large lady before her, though did guess that it might be a good reminder should she need to actually offer a gift after their session later on. “Oh sorry, I didn’t mean stress as in the example of being worried about finishing a project by Tuesday, or owing a large and nasty looking gentleman an immodest sum of money…?” Shaking her head as she found her fellow femme misunderstanding what she meant with her previous comment and apologizing for that simply because she said it in a way that was probably meant more for her to understand herself than the layman, Sophie pushed her locks back and took a breath as she prepared a fuller description of her intention, which seemed to line up better with the concepts that her subject seemed to advocate. “Stress is more of a broad term in a biological sense, and in this example of an episode of acute transient stress, such as extremes of emotions like anger or fear? Psychological influences can afflict the body to quite a devastating degree, I’m afraid?” Perhaps getting a little too technical in her clarification but that a habit of someone who truly loved the subject she was speaking of, a hint of brightness appeared in gaze of the girl as she looked upward slightly and remembered more than a few research papers that had tickled her in younger years about the connection between mental and the physical, before she sank back into the moment with a hope that they would understand one another a bit better as a result of her explanation if not her fervour as well. “Heheheh, that’s what I expected you might say, so it looks like we’re going to be getting a whole lot more familiar with each other then?” Not entirely surprised in the blunt reaction she received at her first piece of advice and actually expecting it with such a strong sense of conviction that it made her chuckle when the inevitable occurred, because of that Miss Sequoia did not spend much time dwelling upon and dallying about the matter of Mia stepping down from her position, and instead moved speedily toward a resolution that might help her find a truth that might help her to retain her standing as a hero. “If Nimue couldn’t find anything obvious that causes the issue with a simple physical, we’re going to have to take this a stage further, aren’t we? Look into more subtleties about you?” That however not the easiest of paths and this the reason why the scholarly siren had first suggested the simplest and most painless of routes before moving onto something that would probably be slow and potentially rather invasive, the brainy beauty would want her patient to know that she wasn’t going to get any answers without both of them putting rather a severe amount of effort into the endeavour they were undertaking, but hoped she knew that she wouldn’t be taking this ‘ride’ alone. They were in this together now…

Seeing Sophie mockingly take her request seriously by noting it on the clipboard or whatever she was using to take notes, Mia did indeed let out a bit of a chuckle. It was nice to ease up with some light jokes despite the serious topic. No matter what it was always gonna be a weight on her shoulders and she was never not gonna be tense but… it definitely helped, even if only a little at the end of the day when all was said and done.
“…Right. Right.” She let out with a somewhat apologetic tone as she realized the confusion they’d had. Her use of language wasn’t exactly the most elegant so it did escape her that that’s what the woman had meant… though… she snapped her fingers, a word on the tip of her tongue. “Strain. Wouldn’t… strain, be a better word?” She offered. Odds were she’d get shot down. Afterall this was on some level psychological since it seemed to be set off by forms of anger or just… her sense of love for a good fight, she was just trying to offer at least anything while she was sitting here kinda useless. It was easy for her to have a presence in any room, but she never liked feeling as if she was ‘the dunce in the room’ when it was to such a sharp degree. Least the woman seemed to be enjoying herself to some degree, and it wasn’t a mocking expression or anything it was… honestly from seeing it in herself, it reminded Mia of when she really got into a fight. Just… doing that thing ya loved.
With Sophie’s confirmation they’d be seeing much more of eachother, Mia let out a defeated sigh as she slowly nodded along. “Seems so. No chance you do house calls is there? My seats are comfier than your stools I can assure ya. Plus I got cable at my place.” She tried to offer as a complete joke, on the vein of ‘hey if we’re gonna be stuck together may as well be somewhere comfortable’, but whatever the case she certainly wasn’t entirely against the regular visits. With her usual schedule so disrupted from being on probation… a sense of normalcy would definitely be nice to some extent. Even if that ‘normalcy’ was from regular trips to this woman’s lab.
“Nimue’s specializes in drugs and crap I guess? I don’t really know. I kinda just went to her when this was all a big secret cause she was someone I could trust to keep it that way. Now that everything’s blown up I guess I get to see an actual expert…” She glanced up as she realized something, her red gaze narrowing a little. As far as she knew so far she’d just been referred to a specialist but… “Actually what DO you specialize in exactly? Things have been a bit of a rush around me so they never really filled me in on what they think you can do that she couldn’t.” There was just genuine intrigue in her voice, genuinely unsure what exactly the difference was here. “I mean I’m fine for you to start jabbing needles and taking blood and shit if you need to but at least do me the honor of letting me know what yer doin I guess.”

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Strain could work, I suppose…?” Tilting her head and tapping her cheek softly at the term used by the titanic Miss Kearney for the idea she was trying to profess, while it probably wouldn’t have stood up so well in wholly studious circles Sophie found it pleasing enough a relation that she could approve of, even if it wasn’t wholly accurate. “Perhaps academically ‘stress’ is preferred because of the connotations toward potential damage, however if strain works for you it works for me too~” Speedily offering her own or at least the best guess she had toward the reason and rationale behind her choice, perhaps the blonde biologist was hanging a little too hard on an issue that was rather small in the long run but such attention to detail was probably also why she made such a good researcher, and as such she stuck to her guns in a slightly absent minded manner as she explained herself somewhat wistfully. “Heheheh, ohhhhh…? Trying to get me back to your place, Miss Red Horn~?” It seeming that Mia was starting to become a little more relaxed with their dialogue as well given how she seemed to send a joke her way, while Miss Sequoia didn’t know the woman well enough to be sure if her patient was exactly the type to go in for a little flirtatious humour she decided it was worth the gamble, and fluttered her lashes toward her with a smirk in response to it. “That particular proclivity certainly wasn’t in my notes~” Not exactly the best person in the world at picking up cues about romance but certainly far from as innocent as her intellectual inclination might have had a stranger believe she was, the blue eyed beauty made another playful note on her sheet with a little hum for a second or two, and then focused her gaze back on the largely but lovely lady a moment later wearing something of a smirk as she felt they were at last beginning to build something of a rapport. “Oh I’d say if you want someone patching you up or diagnosing your cold Nimue is far more gifted than me, as my experience is limited endeavours to research, for the most part…” The question about her credentials and comparison to the medic at UA perhaps catching Sophie a little off guard however, as the burly beauty mentioned the ability of their shared acquaintance the scientific siren was quick to confirm her respect for the skills that the woman possessed, as well as confess her own shortcomings in the areas in which her associate was so very well blessed as well. “My expertise is more a PhD in Biology, with a generous helping of biochemistry, biomechanics… If there’s a word that begins with ‘Bio’, I probably know something about it?” To her mind that not leaving either of them as inferior in any way but rather simply different to one another, after pushing her hair back behind her ear the lady of the laboratory began to explain why there was such a difference between the two of them, though paused for a moment of understanding and humour quickly since she knew that not many were as familiar with her own specialities to see much of a difference to define them…

“Ehh you’re the brain box.” She admitted as she rubbed the back of her neck. This wasn’t a pleasant feeling by any means but at leas Sophie seemed like an upbeat person rather than harshly correcting her mistakes, even offering to.,.. sorta, adopt the terminology she suggested but also making sure it was clear what exactly they needed to be calling it. She was the medical whizz of the two of them at the end of the day so it wasn’t like she was in a position to argue the specifics. “Let’s stick with stress eh?”
She rolled her eyes with a mildly cheeky smile though when she eased up with Sophie teasing her back. It was nice. Not flirty just… a bit of light banter. I mean heck if they met under different circumstances Mia woulda been ALL over that but… yeah. It wasn’t exactly the best situation to ‘start something’… even if this woman was a damn fine lookin’ blonde. Almost wanted to find an excuse to just get her to stand up so she could take a mental picture. “Nah nah just er… hey if it’s comfier for us why not?~” She offered with a wink, but clearly still wasn’t serious about the offer. “Gotta say… with no offense intended, you really ain’t what I was expectin. I mean heck Nimue’s hardly what I expect from a doctor but she’s still a lot more formal than you come off.” She raised a hand and added again clearly. “Again, DEFINITELY no offense. Take it as a compliment if anything. Coming from me at least.” God that was awkward. She tried to maintain confidence but she was still in a bit of a vulnerable situation here so it was hard to maintain her usual sense of ‘weight’ in a conversation, but she did genuinely try to offer that as a compliment. As anyone could tell she wasn’t exactly a ‘professional’ herself in terms of her personality.
She scoffed a little as Nimue was put on the level of ‘common cold management’ but while she liked the woman she could tell it was a joke enough that she didn’t feel a need to defend her… besides how would she anyway? It wasn’t like Mia knew enough about what she did. There was a press release once that she’d done work on a MARINE vaccine but heck how she did it or how big a part she played or whatever, Mia hadn’t the foggiest. All this stuff tended to escape her grasp even if she did try to show an appreciation for a strong mind.
“Right so… in Mia speak, she does active work on people, you more just… study ‘em? So you’re better at figuring out what’s actually wrong with me and figuring out who to send me to for actual treatment?” That was a really rough guess but it seemed kinda close from what Sophie was saying at least, and heck she couldn’t blame her if she did end up having to kick her can down the road to someone who actually knew how to handle whatever her issue ended up being. So long as the girl could set her on the right path that’s all she needed, buuuut… coming up with some sort of solution here rather than with whoever came next would help Mia feel like there was an actual solution in sight.
“Either way.” She started, running a hand back through her wild mane and drawing it back out of her eyes, shaking her head a bit to help it still fall a little more naturally even then so long as it wasn’t blinding her, slapping her knees with some enthusiasm. “I’m here! So, what ya need? Blood? Skin? A stress test or somethin’?”

The sublimely sinful seduction of science~
❝ “Heheheh, would it surprise you to learn you’re not the first person who has told me that?” Scoffing and chuckling as the burly blonde commented on how out of place that Sophie seemed in the lab, this was a fact that had been pointed out to her by other folk throughout her career for various reasons but the main ones seemed to be her looks, her perky attitude or sometimes both of those things combined, and the blue eyed braniac couldn’t help but wonder for a second what it was that made her seem such an unlikely scion of science to the woman before her. “I think when people hear the name ‘Dr Sequoia’ they’re probably expecting someone more like my father? Though I suppose he too has that name, now I think about it…?” Whatever her reasoning it seeming that this field seemed more suited to folk with whitening beards and a ‘Y’ chromosome more often than not, it was rather true that she did appear somewhat beyond her stereotypical remit, though perhaps the manner in which she seemed to analyse her own joke revealed the deeper level of thought that this dishy delight put into the things that passed through her mind. “That seems about right… She likes saving lives, and I like solving puzzles?” Smiling as it seemed that Mia got the gist of what she was trying to tell her about her ally from the society of heroes, once again Miss Sequoua showed her respect for the woman known as Nimue as she playfully belittled her own interests when compared to them, and stated rather categorically that the difference between them in helping people was rather immense, while the academic angel would certainly aid any she thought she could with her abilities she knew that the mighty medic was far more inclined to that task because of her experience. “I considered for a time doing what she did but to be frank I think my performance would have suffered, not to mention my bedside manner?” Loving the pursuit of knowledge throughout her life but at times finding herself pulled in different directions and one of those the notion of using her knowledge and ability to act as a healer in her own right, it had been made apparent to her that while academically she had the talent to do so she was lacking something fundamental, and had decided that she might have been putting people at risk pursuing something that her heart wouldn’t always be in. After all, that might one day be the difference between life and death for someone. “Well, I believe Nimue did run your blood but I’m sure it can’t hurt to double check that, can it?” The matter of how to proceed something that Sophie could only embark upon through estimation for the most part, as her patient suggested certain forms of tests the blonde biologist paused and looked at the case file she had before frowning, and turning back to her fellow femme for a second and deciding that she held some good advice really, it did seem a good idea to start out small and simple and work their way up to greater challenges if need be. “Skin, hmmmm… Ordinarily no, but you said that your skin changes when you have this… problem? Perhaps it might be a good idea to take some, introduce the cells to a few stressing chemicals to see if we can induce a similar change artificially? Like poking a microscopic bees nest with a stick? If they go on a rampage it might prove a little more manageable than the rest of you?” Fishing for a pair of nitrile gloves because of the request from red horn and then picking up a needle which was packed away in a sterile state as she continued, the young researcher would then grab a nice long piece of rubber tubing she could wrap around that thick bicep as she got things underway and verbally described her thought process as she did so, enjoying the ideas that were laid out before her and hoping at the same time that such simple science might be enough to solve the problem rather than getting more invasive and intense in her scrutiny…
