--- arisu --- - - - There'd been several matches arranged over the UA student chat program, and some of them had been slated for more of an exhibition style. One of these more public matches, set to go down in one of the practice rings made available to all comers, was Owen facing off against the largest proponent of his theoretical divinity- Arisu Disukodo. It'd been a bit of a challenge to finish up with her cheer squad responsibilities and find time to duck into her UA track pants and a plain white tanktop, plus training gloves, but she'd managed at the last second and come sprinting up to the reserved sparring ring just in time, waving madly to make sure everyone pertinent knew she was here and not flaking on them! "Hi! Sorry! Hadto. Change. After. Cheerstuff. HiOwen! Areyou. Ready?" Arisu rambled between breaths, rapidly regaining her composure. It was clear that her lack of breath was due to exertion and not a lack of conditioning- it didn't take long for her to recover completely. "I'm good whenever you are. Hoooooo. You're not gonna hold back, right? I'm gonna learn more from losing than winning, so you won't be doing me any favors if you do, you know?"Waiting for his response, Arisu started with some stretches, making sure she was limbered up and ready for this. Sure, she had stretched earlier before cheer practice, but that wasn't really important as far as she was concerned- she'd stretch each and every time she planned to get into some activity to make sure that when the competitive portions came up, she didn't have any strains or pulled muscles. That'd be disastrous, to be thus disadvantaged on a day like this! TAGS: WORD COUNT: 296 TEMPLATE BY ELIZA @ BOTE & THQ

Owen was the sort of young man to jump at any opportunity to test himself and show off in front of others, so a spar in a public ring was just perfect for the antler-bearing boy. Plus, it would be a wonderful warm-up for the upcoming Sports Festival. He stood in the agreed upon ring, hopping from one hoof to another, clearly excited about his first mock-battle with another student.
Being so terribly absorbed in his own excitement, quietly daydreaming about what victory would be like, Owen failed to even notice that his opponent was nearly late to their match. The boy raised his arm, waving back as she ran toward him. Clad in his own UA track uniform and green training gloves, the boy walked to the edge of the ring to greet Arisu. "What're ye 'pologizing for? Yer right on time, yeah?" He let out a hearty chuckle, giving his opponent a wide grin. It was clear that he was very thrilled just to be there.
As she continued speaking, Owen hopped back into his corner, hooves clacking along the way. "Oh-hoh! Now where'd ye get the idea I'd possibly be goin' easy on ye, Arisu, er, chan, yeah? He was still getting used to the whole honorific thing. "Coach Murphy told me there ain't a worse insult than not puttin' yer all into a fight. An' ye seem pretty cool, so I ain't lookin' to insult you, yeah?" With his assurance that he wouldn't be going easy on her, Owen began his own stretches.
Once he was as ready as he could be, the young Irishman lifted his arms, placing one knee forward slightly, taking his stance. "Well then, I'm ready whenever you are! I'll even give ye the first swing!" With that wide grin still on his face, Owen began making his way into the center of the ring, closing the distance between himself and Arisu. Just from the way he moved, it was clear that he was a fighter who was light on his feet, or in this case, light on his hooves.

--- arisu --- - - -
"If you're on time," Arisu retorted, grunting as she finished her stretches and popped her gloved fists against each other, "You're already late. I try to be early to everything, but the festival is so packed with activities, I can't seem to be on time for anything."
"Ah- well, Disukodo-san would be the more polite name, Arisu-chan sounds like we're already super close- like dating- or you're talking to a little kid," Arisu explained patiently. She didn't take offense at that, it was a super common misunderstanding among foreigners. "As for the disrespect, I didn't expect any- I just figured it'd be better to let you know it's okay to go at it, without leaving it to chance whether you had the sense to know it or not, see?" Leaving things to chance, it seemed, wasn't her style in the slightest.
It was clear from the way that Owen held himself that he was a practiced fighter. Arisu nodded as he offered to let her make the first move and started towards him at a run, leading with a painfully clearly telegraphed wind-up that she leapt into far too early. She wasn't gonna get nearly close enough for that punch to land, much less land with proper force. It was almost laughable.
At least until her arm exploded!
Black flames flashed into being all down her arm and blasted towards Owen where he stood, whether he'd sidestepped or tried to block the pathetic attempt at a punch- Arisu had enough respect for Owen to acknowledge he probably wasn't gonna stand around and let her swing at him without protecting himself, and would adjust her aim as best she could if he didn't opt to stand there and take it. The blast threw her backwards as well, and was followed by a sharp jolt to the side as she set off another burst of flame to keep herself from being overly predictable, launching herself on a circling course around Owen well outside his physical reach- if one didn't count his antler cannon as physical reach, anyhow!
If those flames hit, they wouldn't burn or hurt at all- they felt cold, like ice water blasting all over the flesh but without the annoying drippy wetness after- but their effect was immediate nonetheless... exhaustion. The draining enervation of the blackfire was unmistakable after a direct hit and would leave Owen noticeably more tired than beforehand, even on a graze (though certainly less so in the latter case).
Hitting the ground running and sprinting in a circle around Owen, denying him an easy straight line to aim down, Arisu's arms came up in a boxer's guard, protecting her head as she gave Owen time to regroup and commit to either offense or defense- Arisu was very much a calculating fighter, and she needed more input on how Owen would act before she could formulate a plan to try to work around his strengths and pinpoint whatever weaknesses she could isolate- if he'd let on enough to give those away in the first place!

"Ah, so it's a touch too familiar, huh? Shame, I like the sound of it better than Disukodo-san." The boy let out a small chuckle at his own musing. Everything about honorifics seemed so uptight, he couldn't help but find it all a little silly.
Owen always liked to give his opponent the first swing. It was rare that he ran into anyone faster than he was after all, and even the cocky Irish lad knew that it was in his best interest to understand his opponent's techniques as soon as possible, and giving them an opening at the beginning of the match was a good way to catch a look at more over-zealous fighters' attacks. In an odd twist, however, Owen found himself faltering. What sort of attack was that? It was quick, but it was clearly telegraphed, and launched much too early. Was she talking a bigger game than she actually had? No, not even an amateur would make such a huge mistake. By the time Owen remembered he was at a school for people training their Quirks to become Heroes, he only had time to narrowly avoid the burst of blue flame, hopping out of the way just in time to avoid being struck. Though he came out unscathed, he could feel the cold coming off the fire. He may not have known the exact mechanics of the Quirk, but he knew that as a warm-blooded creature, being exposed to a concentrated cold like that would make it hard to fight on.
Brushing the near strike off, Owen grinned again, putting his arms up in a low, casual guard. "Chilly! Didya have a hard time choosin' between fire and ice or somethin'?" He joked, believing himself clever despite the simple fact that one does not choose their Quirk, rendering his quip somewhat nonsensical.
Despite his continued jovial nature, the boy was rather busy silently trying to wrap his head around this fight. He hadn't been in a battle between Quirk users before, having always taken his own for granted. Fighting close range was out of the question with that fire, yet, while her Quirk or the style she used with it may not exactly be considered long range, what reach she did gain with it felt like miles in the ring. It seemed that she had a major advantage no matter what range they duked it out at. Unless he could come up with something completely out of the box, or find some secret weakness to this Quirk, Owen had one option, resorting to hit & run tactics.
With a deep breath, Owen seemed to settle near the center of the ring, arms up in a guard. It looked like he was taking a more defensive route, possibly taken off-guard by Arisu's usage of her Quirk. Of course, it would take more than that to actually shake the boy! He let her sprint around him for a few moments before launching his attack, stepping forward with one hoof before rotating and throwing a roundhouse with his other hoof. He aimed just below her guard, hoping to evade her grasp by pulling away as soon as he struck her, if he did at all. There wasn't much power placed behind this strike, favoring range and speed over brute force, but if he managed to land the attack with the very end of his foot, Arisu would likely find that the extra weight and hard surface of the hoof would be plenty to cause some pain.

--- arisu --- - And Then There Was One -
"Well- I mean, Arisu-san would work if you really want to go that route," Arisu offered, answering right before their bout took off for real! She had her mind on the game, but it wouldn't do to be rude, after all, and if he didn't want to use her last name, there were other options as long as he stayed respectful. Which was more than she could say some people had done.
Owen's speed was nothing to scoff at, and Arisu could immediately tell she was going to have her work cut out for her. Speed was one of the things she hadn't had time to cultivate yet- propulsion was still a new trick to her, and maintaining steady bursts with any kind of control was far more difficult than the ping-pong ricochets she'd mastered so far. "Whaddya mean, Owen? The fire's fine, come on in!" Arisu beckoned with one arm wrapped in the stuff, grinning behind her guard, only to have him rocket towards her as she brought it back into position! The sheer magnitude of his speed and training made him extremely difficult to avoid- so she didn't.
As he closed and whipped his hoof back, Arisu banked on a number of facets Owen had exposed to her before in the chatroom- plus what she'd seen of him in their shared training at the abandoned hotel- to formulate a plan of attack. He had hooves- that meant he had weapons she couldn't afford to be at the mercy of, and he'd likely be aiming to catch her with his hooves- she had an idea of how far away he'd be stopping, if only out of habit. Combined with his admission that he was a kickboxer meant she could predict he'd likely lead with footwork and, well, kicks- giving her a small window to execute her plan- a small window crowded even smaller by Owen's sheer speed. He was, after all, almost twice as fast as she was, and her only real advantage was maneuverability. He could move fast, but stopping on a dime wasn't his forte, that much was obvious.
The moment that Owen started to stop, to buy time to whip his leg out in his roundhouse, Arisu moved- not back, but -forward-. Flames burst from the back of her arms and shot her forward, clearing the distance between them almost instantly. His leg- or, more precisely, his thigh- caught her side, but the kick wasn't designed to be delivered at such close range, and the damage she sustained was relatively minimized. What was more important than the ache in her side, though, was the chance to snap her arm down around his leg and attempt to trap it at her side the instant it made contact- while rocketing herself forward into his space, all the while doing her best to pepper his far side with quick, nearly painless body blows- each of which could and would deliver jolts of frigid cold and leeching energy with every contact, not to mention the gouts of black flame that were gonna soak his leg if he didn't avoid or escape her grasp!
And if he did leap back faster than she could grab him or close the distance? She had every intention of staying close as she could and sweeping a dual arc of black flame from either side of him in and across his location before he could pull far enough back to leave her range- and she was more than willing to propel herself forward in a rapid jolt to make sure that double-fisted sweep caught him in its arcs!
Would that leave her vulnerable to a horn cannon? Quite possibly! Did she remember he could do that? Maybe! Was she going for it anyway? Ya fukkin' bet she was!

Really, Owen probably should have seen that coming. As an often overzealous outboxer, his weakness was always over-committing with long-distance attacks and leaving himself open to attacks. The difference here was that being in the ring with another kickboxer meant that the worse he would suffer would be a punch or two as he backed out again, in this ring though, it meant the possibility of being grappled, disaster for a flighty outboxer. The moment Arisu's arm wrapped around his thigh, Owen found himself resisting the urge to panic in such a dire and shocking situation.
What was he to do here? Should he try to kick her off? Meet her assault with his own fists? Maybe return the grapple? No, in all those scenarios she retained the upper hand. He should really work on his upper body strength. With little time to think, he went on the defensive, lowering one arm to block her jabs. Even blocking, her punches delivered frosty blasts of her Quirk. Even with a potentially ranged Quirk, Owen now understood why the girl focused on melee combat. The penetrating cold of her attacks struck right through any guard, exhausting her opponent even without very much power behind each. She had an undeniable advantage in hand-to-hand combat.
Owen had read this wrong. This wasn't a simple sparring match, this was a duel of Quirks more than anything, and he was terribly outclassed, at least in this position. The plus side in this case however, is that things opened up for the young Irishman as far as legal tactics.
After suffering a few blows aimed at his side, Owen lowered his head, antlers pointed at Arisu, launching a counterattack using his Antler Canon. In a rapid burst of growth, the tips of his antlers shot forward about a meter, presumably enough to push Arisu away, assuming she didn't move to dodge on her own.
This would hopefully be enough to force Arisu to release his leg, or at least loosen it enough for him to wrestle it out of her grasp. Either way, he hopped back on his hooves, opening up a distance between the opponents once more. Without hesitation, Owen reached up, grasping near the base of each antler. With a grunt of effort and a duo of loud cracks, the young man de-antlered himself, arming himself with one in each hand, wielding them as though they were swords.
Having now armed himself with his own natural weaponry, Owen faced Arisu with a smile, notably less jolly and energetic than he was at the beginning of this battle. "I nearly regret makin' fun o' that Quirk. Pretty nasty bein' on the receivin' end like this. I'm sure ye don't mind me makin' full use o' my own, yeah?" The boy clicked the antler weapons together before taking his stance once more, deciding to take a true defensive tactic this time around. His antlers would grow back quickly, but until then, he wouldn't be able to use his Antler Canon as a trump card again. He may be a little clumsy with these antler weapons, given his lack of practice in weapon use, but he figured the bonus reach without putting his own limbs at risk of grapple was worth it. He just hoped that he didn't make himself look stupid or something.

Owen's response to prevent her body blows from striking the soft spot below his ribs was the right technical response, but- as he very rapidly realized and took into account- it wasn't preventing her actual goal, just the fringe benefits of popping him in the side over and over. His arm was almost certaint to bear less damage from the strikes, on account of- well- lacking organs, but she knew every one of those jabs was going to feel something like an energy shot in reverse. She hoped- but knew better- that when he lowered his head that maybe he was already going doWAITHOLDON.
She didn't know exactly what he was planning to do but having those horns pointed her way left her feeling VERY unsettled, and she trusted her gut, trying to pull away before whatever happened, happened. She wasn't quite quick enough, though, and even as she started to accelerate backwards, the horns erupted forward three feet and change, striking her belly and folding her over herself with a loud "oof!" and an abrupt loss of focus, sending her tumbling back along the ground rather than elegantly launching backwards under her own power.
She shot to her feet and lanced a finger at him angrily. "H-HEY! Those didn't even point the same DIRECTION a second ago! And- no! Make full use of whatever! Who the hell has moveable horns, though?!? AUGH! Come on, then!!!" OH! She wasn't mad he hit her- rather, she seemed irritated at herself for somehow not noticing how much control over his antlers he had. The lashing out was a very transparent attempt to mask how frustrated she was at herself, and it just as quickly faded as she studied what he'd just done. He'd armed himself with something along the lines of natural seven-branched swords, though he didn't seem particularly comfortable with them. It did cut into her ability to stay close, though- she could feel the twin bruises developing on her belly, and she had no intention of adding to them if it was avoidable. Rather, she bolted forward to start closing ground, jolting back the instant before she fully entered the edge of his reach, propelling herself backwards with a gout of black flame shot towards his center mass.
She repeated this twice, both keeping pressure on him to find a way to be aggressive and trying to condition him to expect her to stay out of melee, then came in a third time, eyes sharp for signs that he might lash out again, or attempt to evade out of caution that she may blast at him yet again. She hoped for the latter- what she wanted to do was get past his weapons and in close enough to clinch and pound him again, but she would only try if he seemed to try to focus on evasion over trying to punish her aggression. Most any swipe at him would leave her at range, continuing to pepper him and look for an opening- after all, shots at center mass while she retreated had good chances to catch and possibly destroy his antler blades, even if they didn't necessarily catch him!

Owen allowed himself a small sigh of relief as his counterattack landed and did just what he had hoped it would, create a solid distance between himself and Arisu. This fight was moving at quite the intense pace, especially for Owen. Sure, he'd fought infighters before, but with his reach and how nimble he was, he could usually control the pace of any fight. This fight though, Arisu seemed pretty intent on refusing him his usual advantages. No, this fight he'd have to rush just to avoid being exhausted by his opponent's fire. If he wanted to win, then he would have to shake up his own style.
Owen just gave his opponent a calm shrug when she loudly questioned his Quirk. It didn't bother him all too much, and he didn't even seem to consider that she may be angry at him. It wasn't unusual for people to get frustrated and lash out during a spar. "Hey, some people've got cold fire, some people've got extendable antlers, yeah?" He chuckled a bit before speaking again, a bit of uncharacteristic seriousness in his tone. "And they are antlers. Not horns, yeah?" That odd moment of tensity passed as quickly as it appeared as Owen resumed hopping in place with his relaxed grin on his face.
She charged at him, only to quickly back away while throwing a bolt of frostfire at him. An odd strategy, but one that would be very effective if he wasn't on the defensive. He deflected it with a step to the side and a swing of one of his antlers, kind of like striking a ball with a tennis racket. If in tennis, the goal was the not be hit by balls your opponent was throwing at you. So not at all like tennis aside from hitting something with a broad striking instrument. More like racquetball maybe. Maybe.
Faulty comparisons to unrelated sports aside, Owen would find Arisu repeating herself, this time he dodged without use of his antler racket. He couldn't stay on the defensive like this, even if he was an outfighter, he had to end this quickly. Even if he didn't get hit, he would start to slow down due to natural exhaustion. As if he had to be reminded of this, he felt a frigid cold stab at his side when he tried to evade the third blast in Arisu's hit-and-run rush. He'd been grazed by one of her ranged attacks, and with even more of his energy sapped, it would only be easier for her to strike him more. It could only go downhill from here, he had to attack now!
As she went in once more, Owen made his move and went on the offense. Assuming she followed through with her plan, she would once again back away and throw a blast of chilled flame at him, but he didn't let that slow him down. He blocked her blast with his antler, stopping the attack but causing that antler to break. Dropping it, he continued his aggression. Even sapped of energy, he still moved faster than she did. He appeared to ready the remaining antler weapon for his attack, but this was a feint, as revealed when he kicked off the mat with one hoof, using the other to throw a side kick, aimed low, at her leg this time.
This was a conscious attempt from Owen to try and maximize his two remaining advantages over Arisu. One, clearly, his speed, the other being more difficult to notice. Her ability to sap energy was extremely effective in a hand-to-hand battle, but she didn't pack the most power. Owen's second advantage was simply that he could deal more damage in a more immediate way than she could.

--- arisu --- - - -
"W-well- well then you still don't have moveable horns, do you? You have moveable antlers, so my complaint is totally valid," she retorted, half-mumbling, clearly a touch embarrassed at having actually upset Owen a little. That wasn't the sort of misstep she usually made, and realizing she'd buzzed a sore spot left her feeling kinda rotten. ".. sorry, though."
Arisu did in fact stick precisely to the plan she'd formulated. The only way to get proper data on how she could expect him to react was by maintaining standards in the approaches she used, and deviating from her plan would have tainted the information she had as to what she could expect from him moving forward, and sure enough, her methods paid off as he broke from his defensive routine, apparently coming to the same conclusion she had- if he tried to just dodge everything, he'd end up running out of juice before she did. She was used to long, drawn out sessions- he seemed less so.
What he wasn't less in, however, was sheer speed, and he put that to use quickly, smashing away a second bolt of dark flames, marking a new box in her head- horn durability, two blows. That said, though, the rapid advance, the feint, the quick swing of his leg towards her, all went down faster than she could fully react to. Sure, she had combat experience, and she had a split second to enact whatever counterplay she could bring to bear in a heartbeat, but there wasn't anyway, with his initial feint breaking past her own predictive maneuvering, that she could dodge the blow entirely. Instead, she chose to use his offensive stance to punish the way attacking with one's legs limits stability, defensive options, and- most importantly- mobility, especially when already airborne.
Arisu dropped her profile minutely, all the shifting she could do in the tiny time she had to react at all. The blow still caught her leg, but it slammed into the meat of her thigh instead of the comparatively less cushioned knee or calf. As the blow impacted, she shoved herself forward with her other leg, driving forward the distance she needed to resolve the distance in reach and banking on Owen's momentary airborne status to prevent him from evading her rush as she made to grab handfuls of his jacket as her arms boiled with Antipyre's dark flames, erupting the moment she had anything resembling a hold on the garment, doing her damnedest to get a hold before his feet hit the ground.
If the double dose of blackfire landed alongside her attempt at a brief clinch, her grip on his clothing was going to be enough to hold him in place for a short time before the fabric in her hands crumbled to dust and released him, allowing her to drench him in the chilling waves of "flame" before he got a chance to make an escape. Otherwise, if he managed to evade the grab, she'd track him with the flames, trying to blast him down all the same. Were he to let her get her grip, he'd have a fine chance to land a blow or two himself- but was that going to be worth the sort of energy it'd cost him to let her have her way for even a second or two?

It definitely bothered Owen when his antlers were referred to as horns, being that he was in a unique position to understand the subtle differences between the two kinds of natural head adornment, with half of his brothers having antlers like himself and the other half possessing horns. Personally, he was proud to have antlers, but had he been born with horns, he would have likely been equally proud of those. In any case, he was a lax enough guy to drop it once Arisu apologized.
As spry as Owen was, and as much as he particularly enjoyed throwing kicks while airborne, such would prove to land the boy in another sticky situation, as his inability to change direction mid-air would leave him subject to Arisu grasping him by the fabric of his track uniform. She burnt away the fabric of his uniform and moved in to give him a direct blast of her Antipyre, but he managed to block, or at least partially obstruct this blast, holding the still-remaining detached antler between himself and Arisu. Of course, given that it's an antler and not a solid shield, Owen still found himself being soaked in freezing flames, just a bit less so, and without being grabbed. The antler broke down quickly under that pressure, but instead of backing away as his defense fell as one would, the boy decided to use this as a chance to potentially land a real hit.
Under the assumption that the amount of fire she shot at him would obscure her own view of him, Owen once again leaped into the air, this time launching a powerful, two-hoofed dropkick in Arisu's direction. Unlike his side kicks, as long as this landed at all, she would be struck with the hooves, and with plenty of weight behind them.
Whether or not this attack landed, Owen would land on the mat with a hard thud, landing on his side before rolling onto his back. Clearly exhausted, the normally high-energy boy struggled just to get his feet under him. It looked like he was scrambling in slow motion, eventually managing to sit up. With large portions of his track top having been burnt to cinders by Arisu's fire, the remaining cloth slid off his torso, leaving him topless, save for his left sleeve. Owen didn't even seem to register this until after he'd gotten back on his feet, taking a short moment to look down at himself and crack a smile before looking back up to face Arisu. "If I... If I didn't know any better, I uh... I'd think y'did that on purpose." The lad tried his best to let out a hearty laugh, only to manage but a quick chuckle between breaths as he nearly tripped under his own weight.
His antlers had grown back by this point, back to their initial size, but he was clearly gassed at this point. There wasn't much of a chance he could put up any more of a fight. Despite that, Owen still did his best to find a stable stance and managing to raise his arms into a guard for a short moment before they dropped again. "Well? We gonna... keep going?"

--- arisu --- - - - Owen's plan to capitalize on Arisu's inability to see through her flames wasn't at all ill founded. His rush towards her wasn't expected, as Arisu figured Owen would continue to leverage his speed to try to get out of the way once his antler broke down to powdered calcium in the wake of Antipyre's assault. It did a good job of drastically reducing the severity of his exposure to the heat-sucking flow of queerly inverted flames, ripping warmth away instead of slamming heat into cells to destroy them. As well, he'd learned not to give her the option to just close with him to rob his kicks of potency, instead bringing to bear a double dose of dropkick. Arisu's guard served her well, but really only in letting her pick where the impact was going to land- her arms weren't any more armored than anything else, and the brief contact- though it exposed Owen to a touch more blackfire than he might have otherwise had to deal with- wasn't enough to meaningfully shift his energy levels from where they'd already fallen. All in all, a well-chosen attack, tactical and delivered with skil.
Arisu was driven back, the force of the kick scootching her feet along the ground without even moving them, leaving her forced to shove her stance wider to protect her balance as she desperately tried not to think of the sort of bruises that wicked dropkick was gonna leave on her arms. Her fingers were quivering a little in their fists from the effort required to hold her guard through the pain in her forearms, and it wasn't until Owen joked, stumbled, and dropped his guard that she let her own arms fall to her sides, the blackfire dissipating once absent her control.
"Ah- no, I... don't think we should. Aside from the fact that I never want to feel those hooves on my arms again," she offered through a grin, only faintly strained, "You look like you're on the verge of collapse. I mean, you look pretty good for a guy who needs okonomiyaki and a nap, but you're showin' the wear and tear. I think we're good for now." She pressed one fist into the other and bowed his way, though she didn't necessarily expect he'd do the same. It was a more Asian martial art tradition- she was pretty sure Europeans usually shook hands, instead.
"Is this the first time you've sparred with someone else using their quirk? Was it different than most of the other fights you've had? You seemed really surprised when I started using Antipyre to supplement my boxing skills. Yours, I should say, are super legit, and they can only benefit from the natural footwear you're sporting." She didn't specifically call out either of them as a victor, and changed the topic to give Owen a chance to speak about something besides who beat who. "I know I was terrified to use my quirk on a person, first time around."

As exhausted as he was, feeling the bottom of his hooves make full, solid contact with his target was something of a wonderful feeling. He may have landed a few strikes through this fight, but none were as satisfying as this drop kick. Owen's little stunt seemed to have paid off until the exhaustion of the blue flames caught up with him, leading him to the struggle trying to stand, managing to do so only to crack a joke about no longer having a shirt.
Once Arisu decided that their spar was over, it seemed that all the fight left Owen's system in an instant. The antlered boy fell back, landing on his rear. "Heh, yeah I look pretty good." Owen lifted one of his arms to flex his lean muscle, big grin on his face. He was clearly a little out of it in his current state.
Owen leaned back, placing his hands behind him to hold himself up. "Hm..." The young man quietly thought over Arisu's question. "Well, kinda not really. I had plenty o' spars back in the gym I trained at, but Quirks weren't allowed in those, yeah. Fights wit' my brothers though, Quirks were a-okay, but none o' them knew any kinda actual fightin' styles. Plus they all got the same sorta Quirk I've got, but either with horns or big ol' deer heads like me dad. I'm the only one that's got antlers an' still looks pretty. Lucky, huh?" The boy burst into laughter, apparently very amused by making fun of some of his brothers' animal-like heads.
Getting back to the question at hand, Owen continued. "So basically, I ain't really used to fightin' wit' other Quirks, yeah. Figure I should work on that, but goddamn." He lifted his arms, stretching before lying down on his back. "One-on-one, melee combat, you've gotta 'ave the best sorta Quirk for it. Kept on feelin' like ye backed me into a corner, yeah? Take me time and yer small hits slow me down, try to rush ye down and uh, well-" Owen gestured to himself as he finished his sentence. "This 'appens, yeah?" Another bout of laughter as Owen crossed his arms behind his head. He looked like he was just about ready to go to sleep right there in the middle of the mat. It wasn't clear whether he'd forgotten where he was at the moment or just didn't care.

--- arisu --- - - - Oh, thank the gods, Owen didn't want to try to keep going. Arisu's arms were already going to look as though her circulatory system was trying to audition as horseshoe blueprints - or, more accurately, black-and-blue-prints- so hearing Owen flop and seeing him throw out a goofy grin and a silly flex was thoroughly relieving. He answered her question, too, prompting some nods from her, leading to some... faintly strained laughter, not eeeeentirely sure it was okay to laugh at his siblings for their quirks leaving them looking less human. Still, they WERE his brothers, and if HE was laughing, then it wasn't like he was gonna get mad, so she tried not to worry too much.
Like that ever worked!
His analysis of how her quirk worked left her flushed and glancing elsewhere. It was true, that was more or less how she thought of it herself, but hearing someone else praising her and her quirk was... unearthly. "Aheheh... yeah, I- I spent a lot of time, uh... theorycrafting? Planning tactics around how to approach various situations once I learned how my quirk worked. It just... crumbles physical stuff, and I'd been too scared to hit people with it for years, so this is all pretty new to me, but... it does work well against physical fighters. As, uh. As long as they can't hit hard enough or hang on long enough to beat me down despite it all, you know? It's a good hand to be dealt, for sure, but you never know who snagged pocket aces." Did... Owen know anything about poker? Oh, well, she tried!
"Lemme help you up. We'll get you someplace cozy if you still want to nap. You wouldn't be the first, you know?" TAGS: WORD COUNT: 300 TEMPLATE BY ELIZA @ BOTE & THQ

While it was clear that Owen didn't take the loss very hard at all, it did make him feel a bit better about himself to hear that Arisu actually thought through her tactics. Definitely more work than he put into his own fights. He always just went into it figuring that things would work themselves out, though he did just lose this one. Maybe he should put more thought into how he fought. Had he been less of a care-free sort, he may have even thought about how this might have turned out if this fight was actually serious, against a Villain and not one of his classmates. But Owen was Owen, so that thought didn't even cross his mind. He did like winning though, so coming up with strategies to help him deal with fights like this in the future would be in his interest.
The young Irishman laughed to himself as she spoke. "I tell ye, Arissan-" The tired boy slurred together her name and honorific, dropping the "u" at the end to unintentionally bring it closer to the more familiar name of "Alice" while still managing to not entirely forget that he's apparently not allowed to use "chan" for her. "Yer way too strong ta be talkin' about bein' new to this an' all. 'Specially considerin' yer the winner 'ere, yeah?" Despite her previous attempt to keep the conversation away from who won and lost, Owen considered it pretty obvious. "An' don'tcha dare act like this was some sorta draw just 'cause I gotta few good hits in, right? Ye won fair 'n square, ye deserve t'act like a winner."
Owen stretched a hand up from his position laying on the ground. "Right, tell y'what, since y'won, sometime after the Sports Festival, ye show me a good place for eats, 'n I'll buy ye some lunch. Bring a friend or two if y'want." He did his best to speak with his usual jovial cadence despite still being a bit tuckered out from the fight.
"Before that, I should pro'lly take a nap, yeah?" The antlered boy laughed again, doing his best to continue to be conversational despite his current state.

--- arisu --- - - - Arisu ducked her head when Owen called her out for talking up how new to it all she was. She'd been trying to make him feel better by talking about her own inexperience, but he was right, that was a little less than awesome. She nodded quickly, and when he kept going to build her up, she straightened and grinned, clearly pleased he was supportive. She seemed to have a tendency to downplay her achievements, and Owen pushing her to own her win was a pleasant change from her usual. "Okay, then. I'll act like a winner!" She stepped in and clasped the hand Owen held up, doing her best to pull the bigger boy back to his feet now that he'd had a bit of a rest. "That sounds like a plan! Did you have any of my friends in mind?" A gentle tease, and certainly not ill intentioned. She seemed to mean it- if he had someone in mind, she was willing to issue a custom invite. "Uh, yes. A nap would be a wise decision before going out. Besides, the sports fest isn't done yet! I hope to see how well you do!"
