| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ This would be the first time that Rowan would not have to dress up for the Halloween party. It was like a fair was going on and she wasn't sure if she had seen it before now or that she read about it but she wanted to see a bit about it. There were a lot of people, running around, yelling, laughing, screaming but mostly seem to have fun. She looked forlorn, alone around here. She looked at her phone wondering if she should text someone if that person would want to come over, not that she knew anyone who she dared to bother.
In her dark blue jeans and black leather jacket, she was wearing boots with a little heel and her hair up into a bun with a red shawl around it. She was actually excited to do something but with the many stalls, she counted about eleven of those things and they all had those scary names. She had not joined the Haunted House for a reason.
As she walked a bit past them, she mostly also noticed that most were taken and little queues were forming, couples (which annoyed Rowan even more), children and many from her age. Though at this point, not anyone she seemed to know. Looking left and right, she decided to stop for people that she might know and decided to step into the first queue of whatever that looked short. Time for something fun, or so she hoped. |

It had been a while since she last saw Rowan outside class, assuming one didn't count all the military shennanigans... Oddly enough, since they not only stood two seats away in class, but also lived no more than two apartments away from each other, in the same building. A few months back, Kanna might not have cared at all... But she'd be lying if she said the last month hadn't brought her closer to fellow Quirkers, after seeing for herself just how far a timeless institution like the military had it out for them. Understandably enough, times of war tend to draw one close to any potential allies they can reach. "Let's see who else I'll run into here...", mused Kanna as she wandered around aimlessly, lit cigarette held between her lips, hand stuffed in the pocket of her leather outfit, the closest to a costume she could conjure up on such short notice. And about the greatest effort she imagined herself dedicating to Halloween as a whole... She'd spent a good time with Yumi earlier, ´had a pending invitation to go to a party, and aside from those had also run into a couple of people she knew from school... Which begged the question of who would come next, "Oh... Rowan?" And there she was... One of the few people she knew, and among those, one of the few she'd yet to run into. Though she never probed her on it, she had this image of Rowan as a sheltered girl who'd only just started flying out from her nest on her own. Easy to think so when she seemed so out of touch with shit most folks their age took for common sense. Walking up to her classmate: "Any reason you just looking at the haunted house like that...?", asked the curious Kanna, comfortable enough with Rowan to actually ask her about it. After all, the reserved hacker often kept her own thoughts and opinions to herself unless prompted in one way or another, showing a general lack of interest in anything happening around her, "Hesitating to just step in and check it out, huh?", she'd ask, smirking with a playful hint
But on this night of festivities, picking out the few people she got along with and spend some time with them didn't really feel that bad... Leaning against a nearby stand as she finished her smoke, she took a moment to examine what costume her classmate had picked out, or rather, lack thereof. That said, one might feel hard pressed to call Kanna's own attire a costume proper, at least, anybody who didn't know what she normally wore...

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ She might have missed something in the idea of being outgoing. She had locked up her cat and was again gone for a night out. Yet again she left alone, this was a ridiculously dumb idea every time again. That wasn't to say that she met bad people, absolutely not, she met interesting young guys... surprisingly it were all guys lately. Where were the female classmates? It was a while ago that she met Chise. Her little cat was already growing a little and it was fun to see. Now that she stood there, frowning and thinking about her cat, waiting for her at home, she wondered why she should not return. She had made a decision to change, not that answers came immediately, but it was part of the idea of going out all by herself. She did not mind as much anymore to be alone, only at home. But these haunted little fair stands didn't seem to be a good idea. That's when she heard her name that broke the bubble of her track of thoughts and her eyes scanned but rapidly found and she felt a sigh of relieve. "Kanna!" She said enthusiastic, it was a long time ago when the sun was still warm and shining brightly. Unless you counted adventures that she rather did not think about and even though she thought that, she did and her smile disappeared as easy as it came because of that.
Her eyes glided to the haunted house, never noticing she was looking at it like that, it only made sense she did. "Oh, no not really. I thought I was brave enough but I am not so sure about that idea." She decided to say honestly for the last time she met Kanna, at the beach, where she taught her the basics of surfing. "I wanted to look around and just thought about going back home." She said with a bit of a sheepish smile. "Did you already see the haunted house?" She decided to ask, she would not be surprised if Kanna already did so. She laughed a little, "Definitely the description of me at this point." she did not even mind that Kanna would say something, why show a bravery that was not there because it was no use, Kanna saw through her every other second. "It is not even that I don't dare, I don't dare alone." Rowan looked at Kanna, she actually wanted to ask her but perhaps she was here with others, albeit she leaned so casually there with her cigarette that she doubted it, "You came alone?" It would be nice if Kanna was alone and would be okay with spending time together. |

Yeap, she defenitely seemed to scared to go in. Kanna sympathized with a lack of interest in visiting haunted houses by yourself, though not for the reasons Rowan no doubt imagined, as she'd soon tell her: "It's just a house loaded with fake cobwebs and jump scares...", shrugged Kanna, laid back and indifferent as always, thoroughly dismissive of the very notion that any but the most well crafted frightes would do anything to get a rise out of her. And she was probably right, "I haven't seen this haunted house, but I've seen many others like it, I'm sure...", she replied, shooting that uninsterested glance towards the large line at the door. The line wasn't exactly all that big, after just having checked out a western zombie themed haunted house - which was actually pretty well made - this one didn't look all too exciting by comparison, enough for the small line to detract from most potential interest. Rowan's interest was another matter... When Kanna got to the point of enjoying another person's company, she cared more about that than the setting. Right now, showing Rowan how there really wasn't anything special about haunted houses easily warranted checking this one out:
"Well going alone ain't really intresting, I'll give ya that much...", nodded Kanna, quirking her brow and nodding; she had nothing to prove to anybody about being brave enough to venture alone, and for that reason couldn't really be bothered. Might as well just stay home and play a horror game alone... On the other hand, "But watching how whoever's next to you reacts to the lame jump scares... Now that can be fun~", replied the blonde, smirking with the faintest hint of mischief. Her last haunted house buddy gave her a good time, defenitely, though as she tilted her head and looked at Rowan with that telltale look on her face, Kanna defenitely wondering just how much of those looks the girl might give her. Being somewhat comfortable around the fire girl by now, the blonde didn't really mind showing more of herself as such: "If all you need is someone to tag along, then... You got one. Come on, let's see what these dorks have set up.", she declared, nodding towards the line and heading over, waving her hand and urging her classmate after her. If she chickened out, odds were Kanna wouldn't bother going there by herself... But she'd defenitely act like it, in that silent manner, crossing her arms and commenting, "This seems like a more traditional haunted house, I'll say that much... No western zombies or any of that shit."

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ "Are there more?" Rowan asked surprised, this one was already busy considering the visitors and there were more around, how did people like Halloween so much that they would go from one haunted house to the next. Rowan did not even want to consider, the only reason why she at first stood in this queue was that she thought it was for something else. Now she thought about going there simply and only to prove she was not a big baby about it. Which was an even more stupid reason to think about.
She wanted to step out of the line to ask if Kanna would mind to see the other small fair tents around and check out the games they had here but Kanna was quicker in her reply about seeing the fun in people's reaction to jump scares. Now to be fair, Rowan had no idea at first what a jump scare was but the realization of the word gave her the idea that someone would make you jump out of fear, probably something jumping up out of nowhere? That was the only logical translation she could give to it. Mostly when she had a conversation with Kanna, where she stopped trying to hide her lack of knowledge, she understood how dumb she felt for not knowing these things, how sheltered she had been from society, only reading magazines and sometimes watch television. Never really experiencing it first hand. She liked the smirk on Kanna her face, though it gave her the slight nerves that something bad was going to happen to Rowan herself.
Even if there was a sense of nerves, she was glad Kanna volunteered to come along. "This is something different compared to the last time we met outside classes." She muttered, she had wanted to say it louder for Kanna to clearly hear it but she felt like it was being childish to talk about two months earlier. She wondered if Kanna ever thought about something so small and useless. "I played Metris!" She said now that they were waiting in line and she remembered their last conversations, albeit only parts from it but this was one. "Are ehm, western zombies less scary you would say? Compared to the idea of a traditional house." Rowan could not ask about it yet, they had not been inside, it only gave her more creeps. The idea of the haunted stories from demons in Japan did not make her want to visit at all now, but she would try and prove she could survive this. Not that she actually considered she would die in this house but how scared she would be. |

"Oh, tons... You got one on every corner.", replied Kanna, snickering as she looked away, adjusting the shades atop her head with a lingering sense of confusion. You'd wonder why so many people figured Halloween revellers would need these many haunted houses. She even looked around as if to state her point, no doubt knowing she'd see one or another more. Take one final puff of her cigarette, she put it out on a nearby lamppost, and tossed the stub somewhere as she blew the smoke into the air, a few moment's pause as her eyebrow rose, quizzically taking note of Rowan's odd mumbling: "Well duh, it's Halloween... It only happens once a year, right?", she pointed out, cocking her head and scratching it, completely missing whatever point Rowan might have been trying to make. Indeed she'd been putting far less effort in keeping people at arm's length, almost unconsciously at that. Especially when it came to parties with some of the few people anybody else would call friends, enough to smirk knowingly when the girl mentioned playing that incredibly addictive game, "Oh...? Did you get hooked or something?" Now that they had nothing else to do but wait in line, just about any conversation topic would do to keep the boredom away. Shrugging at the question of western zombies being less scary, the blonde looked almost dismissive: "Who knows...? You don't even need monsters to make scary shit anyways.", shrugging, she let one hand come to rest on her hip, sinking on it as she looked at Rowan's amber eyes, pitching those two cents without a care in the world, "But they'll still come up with whatever crazy mashups they can think of, if they feel that will bring in extra dough." Another couple steps forward brought them a bit closer to the entrance, as the modest but vaguely annoying line actually progressed quite nicely. After all, they allowed people in in groups, and granted, most people around agreed with Kanna. Haunted houses were boring by yourself: "Mind you, that Cowboy Zombie haunted house wasn't half bad.", added the blonde, nodding sagely and then grinning almost like a giddy child, that telltale look of a gamer having way too much fun, "We got to to shoot guns at zombies and whatnot, felt almost like a video game~" She barely tried hiding a lingering hint of amusement at how frightened Rowan seemed to be with all this. Unlike the patience she'd have shown teaching her to surf, or teaching Yumi how to swim, she looked at this Haunted house exploration as a harmless way to pass the time. It wasn't really a crucial skill Rowan liked, so it came off as amusing more than anything. Instead, she she felt as if her only role here was helping her classmate realizing this. "Well, that didn't take as long as I'd hope. Here we go. You ain't gonna chicken out or anything right?", she asked, nudging Rowan with her elbow, a teasing smirk plastered on her face. Their turn to enter the haunted house had finally come.

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ Rowan looked away from where they stood as Kanna told her that there were haunted houses on every corner. Damn this community did love their Halloween. She shook her head and turned back to Kanna, "I bet there are enough people that go from one to another, I don't think I would be that enthusaistic." But she could not help but laugh a little about it at this point. She did not entirely understood what Kanna meant with the following reaction but that was okay, she would be okay with it. She got perhaps a bit used to how Kanna reacted to her and it shaped her for the better. It would make her step out of her comfort zone and yet say what she really thought. Not be able to be shaped as she thought was fitting best because she was afraid, of course, she never told Kanna because she really wanted Kanna to like her.
While she thought about their previous conversations, it was that she reminded herself of Metris and without much further ado said that without actually thinking of a proper conversation. "It is really addicting." She bit her lip, "I accidentally went to play for a couple of hours straight before I finally noticed I had wanted to go to bed, about hours ago." She grinned shortly because well it was funny, "I never played such a game before, it was very interesting and I kept trying to make it more perfect and thinking about it. I would love to try more games, surprisingly for me, I would say." When in the queue of the haunted house, she decided to ask about the western one where Kanna had already been. She lifted her eyebrow to wonder about her comment, without monsters could be scary too? She never imagined, so what would that be. "I just hope it will be fun in a way." It was all she could hope for, moving to and fro on the toes on her feet back to her heels. She was nervous now. She nodded when Kanna said it wasn't half bad.
"N-no, I want to see this. I have never been in a haunted house. It's exciting." She did say it happily with a grin on her face, she was nervous, very much so, but also very excited because it was nice to try out new things. She did take the first step inside and looked at Kanna to show that she was scared but not a chicken.
The first few hallways seemed to be going fine, no scares, just cobwebs that she found nasty but she did not say anything. There was a bit of smoke, eerie sounds that gave her the creeps and that's when the first jumpscare happen with someone entirely dressed in black and just jumping up in front of her. She let out a small yelp, she was more surprised than actually a screamer. She held on to Kanna, without at first acknowledging it, but she had wanted to hold on to something and Kanna her hand was close by. |

Kanna looked almost pleased to hear of the girl's experience playing Metris, not that she felt any mischievous measure of joy to hear of her getting hooked on it, but rather, she enjoyed her presence well enough to appreciate them having yet another shared interest to talk about on their downtimes: "Told ya you'd get hooked on it.", she said with a knowing, cocky smirk, snickering as as if she understood the plight all too well. It's really not the kind of game you should play unless you have some time to kill, "I mean, it really is one of the oldest games in the book, but I guess there's something to be said about simplicity. Even all this years, folks still going crazy over it. I'll see how well you can play it one of these days~" Quite the competitive player, Kanna was always ready to see pit her high scores against people - friends or not - when she wasn't actually taking a more direct approach and proving her skillz at whatever shooter game struck her fancy. Counter assault typically... This time around, they had a whole other game to play, assuming one could even call it such: "'Iight. Let's check it out.", Kanna's grin widened, sufficiently pleased by the answer to just nod her way into the haunted house and leading her classmate inside. The moment they stepped into the shaded inside, without any moonlight there to reach it, the blonde squinted, soon left unable see beyond a scarce meter or two ahead of her, enough, "Well, I can't see a damn thing. I guess this place doubles as a maze huh...?" Swatting her head left and right, brushing away whatever sticky cobwebs obstructed her, and then proceeding to peel them off her hands. Not bad... For fake cobwebs, these actually felt real enough, so much the blonde couldn't help but shoot a glance to Rowan, somewhat curious to see how the fire girl was handling herself. So far, she hadn'd heard a shriek or anything, and half expected any cries on her part to startle her harder than any jump scare. When the first dude came out dressed in black, Kanna merely tensed, letting little more than a gasp; she found that sudden grip on her hand far more surprising. But simply smiled and let the girl hold on: "Eh that one wasn't so scary~", she noted, chuckling, scratching her head as she awkwardly looked off into the pitch black distance, "I sure hope these guys can do better..." That said, the next one defenitely made her jolt, stopping in her tracks as a skeleton fell upside down from the ceiling, coming mere inches in front of their faces where it dangled eerily: "Okay... That one's a bit better, I'll give em that much.", Kanna acknowledged at last, nodding almost like a horror critic, "Still kinda predictable, but it's defenitely a start." That said, how well Rowan took it was a whole other matter, odds were, she wouldn't even need to look at the fire girl for that, merely measuring it by how loud she cried out, how tightly she held onto her hand...

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ Rowan did not understand why it was so embarrassing to admit it, it was not that she felt bad about it but well, how did she feel about it? What was nice was how well Kanna looked about it, how much did people like to say they were right. "Are there more games like that?" She decided to ask because even if she did not mind playing metris again for a time, it was curiosity that wanted her to know more about other games. Kanna had said something about playing games, right? Did she remember that right? For some unknown reason to Rowan, she felt the need to blush when Kanna said she would see one of these days how well she played it, "Aaah I bet you have more training. in the game" She wanted to make it a joke but it did not sound like one and she felt even more embarrassed but tried her very best to just act casual about it. But soon enough she was distracted by the haunted house that loomed over them.
Another game perhaps she should see it like that. She was rather curious about it. And also glad that she was not alone at all. "A maze? Does this mean it takes hours before we are out?" She did not plan that she also did not plan to react to anything, she would just swallow it. She bit the inside of her cheek very softly as she walked on, half walking next to Kanna and yet a step behind. It was difficult to see in the dark but that was the part of this haunted house, she was sure of that.
The small jumpscare, had her only hold on to Kanna's hand, not wanting to yell, but just let out a small a sound because it did surprise her, she also felt the taste of iron as she had accidentally bitten down on her cheek, but she let it go, there was no real harm done and she was glad Kanna didn't push her off, she just followed and still held on to her hand. She did not know how to react on Kanna's statement, she had been a bit scared about it, very pale as well if there was worse to come, she better be prepared.
The next scare made her jump, bump into Kanna as well and she held her free left hand in front of her mouth to not scream. Screaming would make her look like a baby and she did not want Kanna to think of her that way. She was shaking a bit and her big golden eyes stared at the ground, "Well, I don't want to know what the other house showed you." She said softly because if that's why Kanna thought this as 'nothing', she was glad she had not been there. She felt now how hard or 'strong' for her doing was holding on to Kanna her hand. "Ah, sorry." She muttered because she did not want to let go but this was really rude from Rowan. |

Indeed, Kanna had trained a far bit more in the game, and just as she'd soon tell her, she had about as many games as she could pick. Puzzle games like Metris in particular, were a dime and dozen, and she really needed only browse for a couple of minutes to find one piquing her interest. Hell, even labyrinth games, though she didn't seem too keen on those. At least when happened in real life, inside a haunted house: "I sure as hell hope not, but even if it's a maze, getting out of 'em usually ain't hard.", commented Kanna, sounding about as keen on this as Rowan, a hint of unease flashing on her face at the prospect. Not that she doubted they could throw any maze at her that she wouldn't be able to solve, as evidenced by her unshakable confidence. She cast a cursory glance at the fire girl, wondering how she was faring. She could tell a lot by that squeeze on her hand, how hard she gripped it painting a clear picture of how frightened she felt. Yet none of that compared to the sudden clench she felt when that skeleton dropped from the ceiling, enough to make the surprised Kanna hiss at the unexpected, but not really crippling pain. She wouldn't even feel a need to speak up over it: "About as much as you'd expect after hearing cowboy zombies.", Kanna commented, rubbing her temple with a less than cheery look, knowing this meager an explanation probably wouldn't cut it for Rowan who undoubtedly expected a story with a bit more... Oomph? There really wasn't one though... Then, what did Kanna like about it? She was given a gun and she was actually allowed to shoot the zombies. Kind of a mix between paintball and haunted house really? That's no doubt why the blonde liked it so much, despite generally finding haunted houses a bit dull. She did notice how hard Rowan had started squeezing her hand, but judging by the understanding way she looked, one would think she almost expected it, "You're fine... If you start holding too tight, i'll let ya know." Rowan had been kind enough not to shriek in her ear, and on some level Kanna appreciated this, letting her take in that almost cute, truly excessive reaction. Gliding her thumb back and forth along the girl's palm, an instinctive gesture to relax her companion and get her heartrate down a couple notches before moving on. It would have taken them no more than a couple of steps before they had to make a turn left, upon which Kanna would gasp, eyes wide as the path would be mostly blocked by the unexpected Skeleton peering from the wall, right in their faces. Also pretty straightforward but at the same time, no doubt quite efficient for a s more susceptible sort: "At least they know how to keep things simple. "

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ She did not know why it felt like a problem if it was a maze, they would have to get out eventually and the house was built for that, she only did not feel the need to bump into closed off hallways and walls with cobwebs and jump scares but she did not dare to say that out loud. For some reason, she still wanted to impress Kanna, but she had no idea how to do that as she was not actually impressing at anything. She did not like the idea of a maze as it reminded her of semper fi, "at least no water is creeping up on us." She mentioned as she looked at the ground, it was not like she wanted to bring it up and it definitely did not help to mutter about something and look so uneasy if you wanted to impress someone, but her mouth was quicker than her brain which needed to think about consequences. So it was too late anyway. Hopefully, there would be no metal doors being slammed in their faces. That was probably a bit of a far guess in here.
Well, the good thing about Kanna was that she was not afraid to hold hands with Rowan, no thought about actually being burned or something by holding hands, which was not something that would happen, Rowan would not be that bad with controlling her quirk. She did look paler than normally in her complexion and her eyes were darting from left to right to find answers or more like boogiemen. "I actually can't make up anything in my mind about cowboy zombies but horrible looking skeletons with a hat." She had to laugh about it now that she pictured it, seeing a silly dance in front of her eyes and grinning at Kanna, strange how she enjoyed that idea shortly but she did not like the whole idea of being here, thank god Kanna was here.
It actually made her blush when Kanna said that it was okay to hold her hand, she was actually making the assumption that she should let go because of the squeezing but it was not necessary and she was glad for the darkness of the haunted house as she could feel the burning of her cheeks. Her cheeks only became more heated when she felt Kanna her thumb stroking the back of her hand and she also felt only more glad that she did not let go of Kanna her hand because it was a bit of a joy. She followed her and the maze could go on for hours now, as long as Kanna was here.
She did shriek albeit she did not open her mouth so it was a muffled hmpf, because she was not someone to demand attention in that way, and she did not want to, she also did not want to squeeze too hard but skeletons and randomly showing up was not her favourite thing that was happening. "Well, to me they seem to know what to do with being simple." She said meek but on the one hand, she did not mind as soon as it was over then she thought it was funny and would walk on. |

"Oh tell me about, that water might have been scarier than anything we'd see on Halloween...", chuckled Kanna, rubbing her head as she still remembered how she managed to keep her cool wits about her at the time, and do everything in her power to safely navigate everyone away from the maze, "Well, you got everything down except for the horrific part. They looked more amusing than anything, really~" She actually spotted that little embarassed blush on Rowan's face, finding it kinda cute really; not that Rowan was ever too forceful or confident a girl, but she always seemed kinda cool and collected for the most part. Whether or not this was more than a front was of no consequence, for the blonde already had that impression firmly ingrained, and it would take extensive proof otherwise to correct it. Though she enjoyed Rowan's company, Kanna most certainly wished the maze wouldn't go on for hours now, come on, just how boring would that be? "And you seem to be handling these jump scares a bit better...", Kanna noted, not even thinking of it as a compliment or anything, but a mere observation. That or the girl was simply putting forward a great effort not to squeeze or deafen Kanna too much, something she could defenitely appreciate. The next jump scare didn't come anytime soon though, like the creators of these haunted house had everything set to keep them on edge, looking left and right with hairs on end, wondering where the next skeleton would pop up. Even Kanna found herself holding Rowan's hand a bit tighter, instinctively glancing around as her eyes narrowed: "Well, they're taking their sweet time.", she noted as they came upon a dark corridor with the occasional flickering light. Far more so than the pure darkness, the unexpected, split second floods of light of light revealed the macabre pathway ahead, littered with skeletons and bloodstains, corpses and cobwebs. The blonde couldn't help but grin, looking back at Rowan and wondering how she fared, "Clever use of light, don'tcha think?" Commenting on everything she saw from an objective persepective might somewhat break the tension, but Kanna obviously didn't care... In her mind there was never any real tension in all but the best of Haunted houses, and though this one wasn't exactly bad, it was hardly up there either. But when the lights flickered again, the blonde's eyes widened. Some of the corpses and skeletons they'd seen last time had clearly moved, changed places and positions! And they still had quite a long length of hallway left to go through. How much more would they move around?

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ Rowan looked shortly at Kanna, multiple times but now it was because of her reaction about Semper Fi. "You looked very calm and collected." It was her that made a loud yelp sound because the door slammed in her face, she wished she could not have done that but it was now in the past. On the other hand, she had tried her best to keep her whits and it was not every day that a steel door shot in front of you, missing you by an inch or so. But at least it was good in a way that Kanna found it not a pleasant memory as well, that the water had been creepy, so it was not only her. She was functioning like a normal human being now.
They kept on talking, thank god not too long about Semper Fi, she did not like that idea, she rather stayed in this haunted house without the water creeping up on her and yet Kanna being close by. "Oh, I will try to depicture that." She remained quiet for a while and tried to make the image in her head into a more funny one. But it was a difficult thing. For some reason, she had the skeletons in her mind suddenly dance, which was funny but also very stupid. Thank god she did not giggle out loud. She simply followed along and tried to also keep her eyes around to not be scared by another jump scare. The chance was very small she expected it. Her brain went to tell her every second: now, now, now, now. To avoid screaming or anything else. Even when nothing showed up, she could not give herself a sense of relieve. The lucky thing was that the Burning Lady did not say anything as well, no time for distractions!
While she was working on that as well, giving up on the dancing skeletons in her mind, she looked at Kanna, the blush still remaining on her cheeks a little and only staying there when she took what Kanna said as a compliment. "I don't like yelling or well screaming." She simply said, which was true, perhaps not in this haunted house but in general it would grab the attention, she definitely did not look forward to that, not in that way at least. She rather had people look at her because she looked cute or fashionable.
She walked perhaps two steps behind Kanna and nodded, not realizing Kanna would not see, as she said they were taking their sweet time. "Only to make it scarier I assume." She said loud enough for Kanna to hear but she followed the blonde's example and looked left and right to make sure not to miss anything. Now, now, now, now and so on. She hunched a bit when the light switched on and her eyes tried to catch everything, everything she did not like. Moving up her shoulders and holding tight onto Kanna her hand. "If you say it like that." She was distracted a bit by the light, to not look at the blood and skeletons, bodies and whatever. It was all fake anyway, she told herself and simply followed along through the path that was making it, interesting, if you could look it at that way. She did not like the looks of it but the way Kanna said it, made her appreciate the effort to scare them. Suddenly being surrounded, how did those triggers work?
When the light flicked on again, Rowan noticed it as well, "Ehm, it's different now, isn't it?" She whispered because that was not fun at all. They were fake but the set up moved and that made it perhaps less fake and well, she bit her lip. |

"As you should... Without a clear head, you become your own worst enemy in a situation like that.", noted the blonde, narrowing her eyes and nodding with a focused look, clearly remembering how she needed her full mental faculties to figure her way out. In a life or death situation like that, keeping your wits about you matters more than raw strength, "Though if you beefed up that firepower of yours, I doubt most obstacles could actually contain you." Clear head, unstoppable firepower... Rowan had enough wits to keep Kanna engaged, enough mystery about her to intrigue the quizzical blonde... But far more so than that, she could be quite reliable when the going got rough. Though at this point in time, Kanna valued her lack of screaming most of all, enough to smirk approvingly at her words: "Good to hear that, I certainly don't like it too. Especially when the screaming happens right next to my ears...", added the blonde, chuckling as she rubbed her ears to drive her point home. She could handle the squeezing to her hand far more easily at that, but granted, Kanna had no clue just how much her warmth holding Rowan's hand seemed to help soothe the girl, or even how she herself valued the fiery beauty's presence more than she'd admit, especially as they ventured through the only part of the haunted house that could actually unnerve her, "Yeah, it's defenitely different...", replied Kanna, in the dark now once again, as those eerie surrounds were only illuminated for no more than split seconds at a time. Even the cool hacker who knew better than to be frightened by a game couldn't completely bury that innately unnerving notion of understanding exactly the kind of jump scare she'd get next, just not knowing when. She couldn't help but tense slightly, returning Rowan's firm grip all too slightly... When the lights flickered on again, she gasped softly, holding a bit tighter. Among the many shifting props, two skeletons in particular seemed to be getting closer and closer whenever they saw them. "I mean... Just how predictable can they get...?", mumbled the blonde once again, knowing that sooner or later, the lights would flash would however many skeletons and creepy monsters would be right up in their faces. Whenever the lights flickered on, that steady pace in her step slowed somewhat and she'd tense slightly, as if bracing herself... But they really kept the two girls waiting there. Everytime they saw the skeletons inching closer, looming menacingly... And then, without warning... Even though Kanna had been mostly expecting it, she jolted slightly the next time the lights came on, with not one but five skeletons right front of them, completely blocking their way, complete with a chilly, bony hand on their shoulders behind them. The lights stayed on for a good bit longer, and finally went out... "Well alright... Only half decent scare they managed in the whole haunted house...", Kanna commented, finally relaxing as she waved her head in front of her, finding the way clear. This close, they could still see all those skeletons completely still, less than a meter away, but in the darkness as such, they no longer had their way blocked or feel that deathly chilly hand on their shoulders.

| ◀ | The heart is a heavy burden ❤ She wasn't sure what had gone through her mind at that point, she had sort of wiped it, it was not that she could not remember, it is that she did not want to remember. She had been able to be more panicky, but she had not been because Kanna wasn't. She only felt the stress reaching her the moment the text dropped in and the moment she felt like she was drowning thanks to the woman from the military. But that was behind her now, she did not drown and she would not drown, because she would stay far away from water for a while. "I am surely working on that." She said, brought back out of her thoughts thanks to the more or less compliment, she accepted it like that, she got from Kanna and gave her a smile. "I am trying to figure out how to make it even better." She did like the idea of it though. As they continued to talk, Rowan admitted that she did not like screaming and noticed the smirk on Kanna's lips that made her feel flustered, she wanted to see that more often. She gave a short chuckle though because of how Kanna reacted, "I can imagine."
Now that they were in the part that unnerved her more than just the jumpscares. They were around her, they were close, they were moving and her eyes could not keep up to see it. She was sure it was different, she could not help but ask Kanna to make sure she was not going crazy. It was difficult to just stay calm, but she told herself the system again and again: now. now. now. The light flickered back on, her eyes needed adjustment, shadows and movement but no connection in her mind, the tense grip that Kanna had on her hand at least made her feel safe and strangely still comfortable. She stood half behind Kanna now, as Kanna would protect her, that's how it felt. She did not see what Kanna saw, her eyes not adjusting fast enough. She made a squeaky sound now that they were in front of her, hands on her shoulder, not loud, not annoying, but clear that she had not liked it and had a fright.
She did not mind being out there and looked at Kanna now that she could see her face again. "I really have a lot to learn." She muttered, not desperately to let her friend hear it. She looked at their hands but did not want to let go. She had not answered at the moment when Kanna spoke but after that, she just followed suit to get out and now, she wondered, what would they do now? A couple of more games, some sort of darts, all in the style of Halloween. There was even a carousel but it was more funny than scary. She just wished she did not have to let go of Kanna her hand, it made her feel safe, protected and it made her feel as if it mattered.
When finally they would return home, to the same building and Rowan looked at Kanna's hand before deciding, that no matter what she would think about it, she would take it. Take her hand and walk home together, because they were technically neighbours even if Rowan did not know which apartment was really Kanna's, they would be able to get home together and to get to school together. She thanked Kanna for being there as she opened the door to her apartment and said goodbye. |
