Casper didn’t really know what to say, nor did he really have much to say on the topic of his quirk. Taking a seat he didn’t fight hard when Angel managed to pay first, understanding it’d be a bigger ‘show’ if he refused to accept that and not wanting to draw attention to her for the wrong reasons, quietly sipping his milkshake as she talked about his reflexes, and how quick reactions like that could save a life. Reactions he could agree with, but reflexes…? He didn’t wanna be a downer on her by continuing to insist against her positivity that he wasn’t worth the time, but his reflex had been to curl into a ball and just hope the car didn’t kill him. Reaction times were conscious, a choice, the ability to decide a course of action and act on it sharply and quickly based on the circumstances… reflexes were instinctive. His were… cowardly. Stupid to boot. He didn’t say any of that though. He appreciated the attempt, and the story about how she needed to work on her quirk was nice but… as much effort as he hoped to put in, he always had a niggling doubt that he was just going to be wasting everyone’s time, sipping on his drink as an excuse not to talk.
“That’s kind of like my brother…” He mumbled, trying to respond without focusing on himself too much. “They call my brother’s quirk ‘perfect growth’. His body processes all his food perfectly. He needs to eat a lot of it but he’s like… the peak of human fitness. He’s younger than me and like two foot taller. He isn’t super human but… he definitely looks impressive.”
He sighed, without thinking ending the topic on himself. “My quirk is the opposite… he becomes perfect with little effort. Meanwhile… they say my energy sucks up a lot of my effort. It isn’t like I need to eat more than a normal person or anything. I tried that and it didn’t help. It’s just… every effort I make to work out and improve myself, half of it goes to this little energy sack inside of me. I end up short for my age, and even though I can actually be pretty strong when I manage to use my quirk, I look really scrawnt and underdeveloped otherwise. Without my quirk, I can’t even find the energy to exercise and improve and… my quirk isn’t something I can reliably tap into so…”
He realized he was rambling, but rather than apologize, he quietly sipped the milkshake again to shut himself up. He didn’t wanna be a bummer when Angel was here with this energetic friend of hers running the place.
He appreciated the kind words, especially when he was told his keen attention to heroes could be a benefit. He had more confidence in his ‘skills’ there even if he hadn’t considered it as seriously as Angel now was before now, so it was easier to accept the praise and see the potential in it. He didn’t know how good he’d be at learning people’s weaknesses and keeping detailed notes like that but… he could try right?
“I-I wouldn’t’ wanna waste your time training me but… really, I do appreciated the offer.” He glanced up, a little surprised a third year had a protégé already but he supposed UA must just be a close community like that, helping the newcomers work up to your level rather regularly. That sounded pretty nice. He shook his head at the name though. “I-its actually really hard to get information on any students outside of the sports festival, even ones who go on internships. The news tends to focus more on the active hero so people don’t worry about kids playing hero. What’s she like?”

A s Casper began to talk about his brother, and how his quirk known as perfect growth made them look vastly different despite the brother being younger Angelique gave Casper a small smile before reaching across the table, and giving one of his hands a small, quick and gentle squeeze to try and be comforting before pulling her hand away as she did her formulate the best way to say what she wanted to say to try and convey the message she wanted to get across. It took a few moments, but as the words struck her Angel snapped her fingers with a large grin. "You really shouldn't compare yourself to your brother Casper. In a way there is something you do have over him in the quirk department. Wanna know what that is? Take it from someone who started in a similar position that you are in now. Those born with already fantastical power will often become complacent and lazy, as they feel that they were already born at their best. They don't see the true value of the power they have been given. People like you and me however? We had to start at the bottom, and struggle to gain every inch of improvement. It's more well earned, and thus we value it more. I have spent my entire hero career punching above my bracket, and often getting beat more times then I care to count. It was mostly by Curved Lightning, Caldara and Typhoon Dragoon, but with each loss came experience, new skills and a better understanding of both myself and my opponents. I guess what I'm trying to say is that while you may feel lesser now, in the long run you will appreciate having to work so hard."As Casper explained how his own quirk worked in more detail, it seemed to only validate Angel's point about how down the line he would learn to value and appreciate his struggles. Though as he spoke about the specifics Angel seemed to physically lean forward with a look of pure fascination, and like she was hung on his every word like she herself was taking mental notes the best she could as fast as she could. It was something that she and Casper shared. They both had a fascination with how different quirks worked. "Your quirk sounds really interesting Casper! The way you describe it, it seems that this sack you mentioned takes in whatever energy you take in and stores it up for large bursts of power when your body needs it most for protection like what happened with the car crash. Your subconscious knew you were in danger, and so while your natural instinct was to curl up to try and minimize damage while in the back of your mind you knew you needed your quirk, and so it sent out whatever energy was stored up to try and save you. I have a theory, and granted it would need to be tested but I believe it has merit. My theory is that maybe if we can teach you a bit more mental focus, and how to be more calm in both normal and crisis situations we could help you gain the focus and ability to not just store up the energy, but if I'm right continuously disperse that energy internally to strengthen your muscles and help you grow. Yes by doing so you wouldn't have as much energy stored up for massive bursts, but it would strengthen your body more evenly."Angel then went silent for a moment as she slurped on her milkshake quietly in thought before deciding to tell Casper something that might give him a bit more confidence. "You like pro heroes right? Here is an insider bit of knowledge for you to demonstrate my point. The pro hero Red Horn actually has the ability to turn off, or at least turn up and down her beefiness. See her muscled form from what I have observed is mostly controlled by her emotions. When she is super calm and chilled out her body slims down considerably. When extremely enraged she bulks up even more, and her skin turns red. That's what she taps into to access her full power with the downside being she can't do so for very long without losing control. The natural beefy yet beautiful form you usually see on television is when her mind is in a nice middle state between rage and serenity. I believe that in a way your quirk may work in a similar fashion, but may be tied to your survival instinct and confidence."When Casper told her that it was difficult to learn specifics about the junior heroes aside from the sports festivals because the news seemed to focus on the pro they were working with, and then asked about Kumoko Angel smiled, and let out a happy giggle though she still heard that he didn't want her wasting her time on him. "Kumoko very much said the same thing about not wanting me to waste my time on her, and yet now she's 2nd in her class. She's very much like you are now, and how I was at your age. She's timid, clumsy beyond all believe despite having so many legs, she can be neurotic when she gets nervous, and she can be full of self doubt at times. Though she makes up for that 100 fold with how hard she tries to improve herself, helping others and her gigantic heart. I don't think that I have ever met anyone who cares as much as me about her fellow living beings like she does. She and I still do share a common flaw. In our drive to get better we often get too much in our own heads and accidently sabotage ourselves, but I can honestly say that a friendship with Kumoko Joro is one that when you meet her when you get into U.A. you should hold close and treasure because I have no doubt in my mind she'll rise through the ranks, and become one of the best support heroes & costume and gear designers in the country if not the world. Training you wouldn't be a waste of my time Casper as like with Kumoko I see a lot of unrefined potential in you, and that comes from the heart."

Casper could get the mentality in everything the young woman before her was trying to say but at the end of the day he was just packed with self doubt and paranoia. She kept trying to elevate him and his quirk, help him overcome his self worries but… it just wasn’t in him to do that. He didn’t have the energy for it or the sense of self worth needed to kickstart himself. He wanted to be worth something, and he’d work hard to hopefully be able to see himself like that one day but… compared to impressive, visible quirks like his brother or even Angel here? It was just hard to see for himself. He knew he had a quirk, he’d called on it here and there in the past but… it usually did far more harm than anything good. He didn’t make any more comments, a part of him not really wanting to give Angel any more fuel to pep talk him. It was just depressing him at this point thinking she was wasting her breath on him.
At the very least she had some interesting ideas about his quirk. “W-well it can do that… the energy doesn’t always come out physically like it did before. It can fill my muscles and make me stronger even if I don’t look it but…” He lowered his head. “The last time I accidentally used it I broke a kid’s ribs… it makes it a little hard to work up the nerve to use it again. M-maybe if I get into UA I can practice on some dummies but… yeah.”
At the comment about Redhorn, his head lifted a little, if only because he knew what she was on about. “Oh that’s actually a pretty common theory. People on Reddit compared pictures of her going up against different criminals. The tougher the fight the bigger she gets. A picture of her taken on a day off at a bar or something has her looking super slim. Still… beefy, but much smaller than usual.” It felt very easing on his nerves not to talk about himself so he easily ran with it. “There’s actually a theory her ‘red oni’ state depends on if she enters it through frustration or a battle lust. If she goes in angry she becomes that red monster, buuuut if she goes in because of a good fight, she seems to actually condense her muscles, and get a little more refined while still being immensely strong and-“
He realized he was rambling again, blushing and lowering his head again. “And er… yeah. In control and… stuff.”
The talk about Kumoko was kinda nice, hearing a bit of a clumsy heroine was still making something of herself. He wasn’t too jazzed it still managed to come back around to him though. “L-look I appreciate the offer, but you’ll be leaving next year and I shouldn’t really train my quirk outside of a legal place like the school so… I-I really, really appreciate it but… I’ll have to say no. Thank you.”

A ngel made sure to listen intently as Casper confirmed her theory that he could indeed internalize the energy that this supposed gland created for his quirk, but he also told her that the one time he had used his quirk in that way he had accidently broken another kid's ribs. This caused Angel to chuckle slightly as she got down to over half way done with her milkshake as she remembered all the things she would break when she first had been given access to her super strength as a little girl. Angel just smiled softly as she realized that she had a little more in common with the young boy then she first thought. "It may not be the absolute same, but when my powers first manifested ya know beyond the whole having wings thing, and the super strength started kicking in I broke so much stuff around the house on accident because I didn't know how to control my own strength. Luckily I didn't hurt anyone, but that was mostly because I wasn't allowed to go outside much as a child."For just the briefest of moments Angel's smile faded as one of her hands drifted to her neck lightly to where her metal collar used to be before she snapped back to reality and she placed both hands around her cup. This small motion didn't go unnoticed by the elderly man behind the counter as he sighed slightly before beginning to work on a second milkshake silently while not telling either kid what flavor it was though a quick glance to Angel would tell them that it was for her as she listened to Casper explained the theory that she already knew to be true of Red Horn's Oni state being tied to her anger and fury. This kid truly knew his stuff, and it seemed that he was quick on the information intake and comprehension as well, and so once he finished Angel snapped her finger with a grin before giving him a thumbs up. "You got it in one kid! Like I told you before, you seem to have an aptitude for quick learning when it comes to hero related stuff. That kind of knowledge intake can prove extremely valuable especially if you decide to become a recon, or support hero like the hero Radio Tower who is pretty much partially in charge for sending us junior heroes and even some pros where we need to go, as well as picking who is best for any given situation. She actually helped me improve the defenses for New Oasis. Speaking of.."As Casper would decline her offer to train him, wanting to do it in legal places like the school Angel would pull out her wallet, and pull out a business card for New Oasis as well as a pamphlet about it with a smile and slid them across the table. "I can respect that Casper. Though just so you are aware, New Oasis is a place you can legally use your quirk as part of the reason for its existence is to help civilian children with hard to manage quirks learn to focus their abilities so they can lead safe productive normal lives. If you don't wanna stop by however I do have a feeling that I'll end up being a guest teacher for training classes at some point. That's how Red Horn ended up getting hired full time in the first place. Just something to think about."Angel then motioned to where Casper kept his notebook. "Wanna be the first civilian to student to gather info on an up and coming pro via interview? I don't mind!"

Casper could definitely respect all the effort Angel was trying to make to connect he was just… closed off. He’d spent so long in his life feeling like his quirk just wasn’t all that useful, that even if it could make him strong, it made him too strong, and otherwise, it made him look and feel weak compared to those around him. He just didn’t have the confidence in it he needed and… while Angel was trying to relate, the chuckle about him breaking someone’s ribs hurt. A lot. His shoulders pulled in and his head lowered a bit as he remembered the guilt he felt from that accident without much holding it back. He realized why Angel had laughed as she explained, but the initial sting was still there, briefly feeling she must have found it funny or something that he did that, even if he now understood she was just connecting her experiences with his.
“R-right…” He muttered, rubbing at his arm, his milkshake having gone untouched for a short while. With his head low he didn’t really notice the touch to the young girl’s neck, but he had definitely felt Angel was… missing something? He wasn’t quite sure how to put it. He’d seen the footage of prior sports and exhibition festivals, and the image of Angel before her looked like it was missing an element to it, but not enough for it to bug him. He thought he might just be misremembering the footage, or the last year or something had added a scar he wasn’t recalling quite right maybe.
“As far as Red Horn goes I wouldn’t say that’s my own hard work or anything I mean…” He wasn’t trying to be modest, it was more just the facts of the situation. “At the end of the day I just make sure I stay up to date with fan theories? Stuff like that? I mean I had a few ideas maybe that Red Horn might have had some reason to constantly fluxuate in size but once I started looking up theories people online had already done most of the work, ehehe…”
The offer to still come and train his quirk in some legal manner was tempting but… he didn’t have the courage necessary for it. Pulling up his bag into his lap he’d make room for the information Angel was giving him and tuck it away carefully. “I appreciate it, I do I just… I don’t know if it’s for me.” It wasn’t a lack of want to try just… a matter of confidence he didn’t quite have yet. Maybe if he did get into UA he’d take her up on it, but he didn’t have the stones for it just yet, so to speak.
At mention of an interview though… his lips parted, a little stunned by the offer and not sure how to process it. He’d never really interviewed anyone before but the opportunity was pretty interesting… did his notepad have enough lines? Free pages? He quickly pulled it out, reminding him it was a clip-binder so he could always add more pages to it if he wanted to or move it all to a thicker ring one day of he wanted to do that. Still a little uncertain, he tried to put on a warm smile and pulled out a free page next to his autograph, getting his pen read. “I-I guess I can do that… m-maybe you could start by just telling me what it was like getting accepted into UA?” A simple question perhaps, but for someone looking to get into UA himself definitely a question that engaged him.

A s Casper tried to be rather humble by saying that others on the internet had put most of the facts together about the connection between Red Horn's temperament and her size changing Angel just shook her head as she finished off her milkshake. It was as clear as day what Casper's fatal flaw was a lack of confidence in himself. As Angel gazed upon the shy unsure boy she couldn't help but see the childhood version of herself who had spent her life being beaten down by a man who was afraid of what would happen if she took flight. The difference between Angel and Casper however was that he was beating his own spirit into submission for fear of what he would accidently do to someone if he allowed himself to let loose, or at least that's how it appeared to the hero sitting across from him. Angel just smiled at Casper softly to try and continue to reassure him. "Casper you really need to stop selling yourself short. It is true that anyone could see individual pieces of a puzzle, but it takes a true visionary to be able to put them all together without even looking at the box. You are intelligent, and from what I've seen despite you saying the contrary you have the reflexes needed to make quick snap decisions. You have the makings of greatness in you, I just hope that when you finally have your golden moment I'll be there to catch some of the rays coming off of you that day."As Casper thanked her for her offer to train him at New Oasis, but that he didn't think it was for him Angel just stood up and walked over to the young boy. She then kneeled down just enough to where they were at eye level. She then gave him a warm smile not as a future pro hero looking at a prospect, but as a young girl who too was once afraid of what her powers were turning her into. Was he afraid of his own power? Angel wasn't sure, but what she was sure of was that she wasn't about to allow such a talented mind shut himself away out of fear. This young man had a gift, and she didn't mean of the quirk variety. "Casper sweetie, New Oasis isn't just for quirk training. It's a safe haven where kids like you and me be they quirkers or quirkless can coexist in peace. It's a place where you can come to make friends, do homework, play video games, board games or just relax with a good book. What New Oasis is truly about is making connections and fresh starts. It's true that it's partially an orphanage, but it's a youth center too. I'm not forcing you to do anything you don't feel comfortable with, but I think maybe just maybe part of the reason you have a bit of a problem controlling your gift is because you lack confidence. I think maybe if you felt less isolated and afraid, if you were around others who were dealing with the same struggles as you but had common interests then not only would you find your voice as it were, but you'd find the control you have been searching for. It would definitely make moving into a dorm room scenario like U.A's campus a lot less nerve wracking. Just give it some thought okay? No matter what you decide I have your back not just as the Angel of Mercy, but as Angel Surami."Once Angel said her piece she stood straight once more, and walked back over to her seat quickly sitting down as she listened to him ask her what it was like getting accepted into U.A. To this Angel gave him a genuine smile and giggle. "If I had to put a single word to the feeling I would have to use the word Liberating. I was born to a loving mother, and a quirkist abusive father. Before U.A. I was much like you, but because of different factors. I was shy, timid and afraid of what I could do because I had a constant voice in my ear telling me that I was worse then nothing. My mom and auntie Rose were actually the ones who put in the application for me in secret. They even met with the Principal to explain our situation. Before U.A. the only time I ever got to use my wings was when my mom would sneak me to Degobah beach at night for flying practice and to lift rocks. The day I got my acceptance letter was one of the greatest days of my life. It was the very night I and my mom broke free of my father's grasp and the Angel of Mercy was born. I had flown before, but the day I got that letter was the first day I ever flew free."
