Personality:
a kind individual, many find it difficult to understand the quirky taiyo. it was never understood as to where he earned such steel resolve, but it certainly didn't bode well with the caretakers back at the orphanage. it was a nuisance to them. so they did their best to break his spirit, both physically and mentally, but he never gave in. his protectiveness of those around him is what kept him alive. though, he can't lie, there were times where even he wanted to give up. but the smiles of the younger children back at the orphanage are what kept him going. he's a stubborn boy who just didn't know when to give up, no matter how badly a hand life had dealt him.
not giving up is his true power. taiyo has a strong resolve, one that can't be easily broken. his will burns bright like the sun; though, funnily enough, due to the meaning of his name, taiyo's motivation also stills from his first name. he wants to be a beacon of light to those unable to find hope in times of darkness. taiyo's selflessness is the one thing many people will, and do, know of him.
he's a fighter that doesn't go down swinging, that we know. but taiyo is a definite knucklehead. he has an obsession with manga, loves watching the news, and enjoys martial arts. he's big on video games, but isn't exactly great with memorizing combos. he's more of a button smasher, and is well-known in many arcades for destroying property and working off the debt. another interesting fact about the young lad is that, though he may not be the brightest, he's very creative when it comes to thinking outside of the box.
HISTORY
"if you can't believe in me, believe in me!"
a saying that has become taiyo's catchphrase—a mantra of sorts. it was a saying that belonged to someone older, but he couldn't exactly remember their face. just that they were someone who was all but a blur. the next thing taiyo knew was that he'd awaken within a bed. a bed surrounded by other children who, too, had their own bed.
that's right, now he remembered. he was an orphan, and though the face a blur, that person was alsoan orphan. they were one of the older children of saint marta's orphanage. that person had dreams too. sadly, they were taken away before it could be realized. taiyo couldn't exactly remember what happened to that facless person, but he knew he would never see them again.
that person was said to have been "adopted," but a young taiyo knew that that wasn't the case. their stuff still remained, though it was in the process of being cleaned out. that faceless person was gone, and that made young taiyo sad. for they were the only thing he had close to representing what taiyo thought a family had been. the children that faceless blur protected, the person he saw in their dreams, was gone. leaving taiyo and the other orphans to deal with their caretakers and the bullies of this money laundering home of false love.
as taiyo grew, he learned the truth. this was no orphanage, but hell rather. with their hero gone, taiyo had to become the big brother to the next generation that would grow in this hell. he had to be their light, and he was a strong one at that. never knowing the love of an adult, taiyo had to become that false image of love. protecting the children was all he could do, it was all he was capable of.
each beating he took, each scar he possessed upon his body. it was all out of selfless love...is what he told himself. taiyo craved love, the children gave him that love. their love and support was what kept him going, it was what made him able to see himself as a hero just like the vigilante's that paraded about. taiyo knew he would never leave this place, and soon he would die just like that faceless blur he couldn't remember.
and once he was gone the children, his family, would have no one. scarily enough, taiyo was okay with that as he laid on the floor dying in solitude as punishment for his defiance. he didn't want to be replaced, because if he was forgotten then how could he say that he existed? if the children found another person to protect them, would taiyo, too, become a faceless blur? forgotten and all? how cruel could loving and wanting to be loved be.
taiyo was okay, at least he wouldn't have to suffer anymore.
that's what he thought until the appearance of Teruko Serizawa and company arrived. saving those of saint martha. somehow, by the grace of god, he survived as his light was on the path of dying out. rescued by the kaiju, all he could remember next was waking up in a hospital bedroom. an iv placed into his arm. the children he cared for and that cared for him surroudned his bed.
as taiyo awoke, his head was fuzzy. almost as if he could barely remember anything really. something was off about him, but for now all he could do was wear a forceful smile. greeting the people he cherished as family.
sometime after he would come be adopted by Teruko Serizawa , causing the young man to change his surname: taiyo serizawa . that was his name. with a smile he'd walk into his new life, but behind him there would always be a lingering feeling in the back of his head. a strange fuzzy feeling that he can't seem to escape. whatever it was, he would ignore it for now. he had a new life to focus on, so it was okay to bury that fuzzy feeling down...for now.
