to the life you left behind THE BRAWL AMIDST THE WAREHOUSES had left the reptilian kaiju absolutely exhausted. Sure, she was as tough as nails and practically a work-horse, but her stamina… well… let’s just say, you wouldn’t exactly be spry if you weighed as much as Teruko did. It took energy to fight that long.
The battle in the glaring sun had left Teruko overcooked and stiff. Being reptilian, she didn’t sweat as others did, so heat exhaustion was a very real concern. She would need to find some dense shade, cool pavement, or a watery channel in order to cool her body down and avoid passing-out. Panting from exhaustion, the massive woman began to survey her map of the immediate area. She wanted to get out of there before authorities made an appearance.
It was then that the man in-charge—a spry, white-haired gentleman with an oddly-familiar face—invited Teruko to lay low in their “base” while things blew-over. She could have a cool drink, and could rest a bit, until the authorities cleared. It was the least that they could do, after she’d gone through the trouble of helping them.
Teruko was ushered into the warehouse, where she found a cool patch of concrete and splayed herself out, resting her chin upon her folded arms. Near her, a tall glass of soda, where ice cubes were steadily melting.
She watched as the other combatants tended to their own wounds, got drinks, flopped onto couches to get some rest. Her golden eyes followed one, teal-haired youth in particular. Akiva. He seemed to be avoiding her. Maybe he was embarrassed that he, too, had been revealed to be a quirker? That he, too, had been caught-up in this mess? Honestly, non-mutants could be so touchy about this shit. She’d leave him be, despite how much she wanted to talk to Akiva. He was already shaken-up enough as it is.
Teruko instead passed her time by turning the white-haired man’s identity over in her mind—why did she recognize him? Was he a customer? Or perhaps he was someone she’d given a rough time in Tokyo-proper?
Lazy, golden eyes slid open once again as footsteps drew nearer. She watched the white-haired man, rising into a half-propped-up position to take a swig of her drink. And then, it dawned-on her.
“You’re Hanako-san’s husband,” Teruko realized, before taking a sip from her drink.
Teruko set her drink back down, and eased back onto the floor, “I own the bakery across the street from you.”
She looked rather like an island, her spines protruding like crags along the back of her neck, and her tail. The ones that usually protruded from her back had been painstakingly cauterized so that she could, at the very least, wear clothes. The woman sighed, dust clouds roiling near her nostrils.
“Does she know you’re out here brawling with villains?” the reptilian woman inquired, without opening her eyes.

G heard a familiar sorta sounding voice, saying he was Hanako's husband. He looked and saw T-Rex or whatever dino creature it was. His dino friend said that they own a bakery across the street from him "Oh?" G said and raised his brow.
He wasnt sure what to think. He went to the bakery once or twice but he didnt really bat at eye at the people like vendors and such. Unless they mean anything to him, he erases them from his memory. The feminine dino sighed and asked does Hana know she's brawling with the villains. G sighed cuz he was annoyed, he didnt wanna deal with an Elena 2.0
So he just motioned with his head as he took a swig of his drink and said "She's there healing some people up. Its no big secret trust me." he took a swig and then after it he said "I dont do any drama llama any more. I'm no edgelord. Im just the number 1 Vigi kicking ass, taking names and relaxing." he said rather casually
He wasnt in it for the fame nor glory. Not edge nor revedge also known as revenge. He was just doing it cuz it was the right thing to do. Save people and help make his home a lil safer for his children. He was a Pro Vigilante. Basically a Pro Hero, just minus the documentation. He'd beat up villains and leave their unconcious asses infront of a police station. He was the neutral. He didnt staright out arrest people like a hero nor did he kill like a villain. He was just the middle point that people tended to overlook. People would criticize him for being a Vigilante. But much like now, he learned to deal with it. It was just annoying at this point.

to the life you left behind “MHMM,” Teruko confirmed, a smile quirking at the corner of her lips. Leave it to a man to be so face-blind, he forgot the literal freaking dinosaur that lived and worked across the street from him. She huffed in amusement.
Whether or not Hanako knew was of no personal importance to Teruko—she only needed to know so that she didn’t accidentally “out” the white-haired vigilante as doing what he did. Thankfully, not only did Hanako know, she seemed loosely involved, if what Hajimari-san said about her “healing some people up” was true.
“She’s a healer?” Teruko said conversationally, misunderstanding his remark as meaning that Hanako, likewise, was a quirker, “ ‘s a convenient power to have.”
The guy had a weird way of talking—and that assessment was coming from an Okinawan, who most Japanese main-landers viewed as a “hippy” as it were. She hid her accent well, though. Teruko ran a clawed hand over the flat of her skull, grumbling faintly.
“Didn’t know there were numbers for that kind thing,” the crocodilian grunted, “Then again… I’m not on the internet very much. That sounds like an internet thing. Or a young people thing.”
She “he-heh’d” to herself, rolling slightly onto her side propping her head up on her arm. Being… a giant lizard… made it difficult for some to discern her age. It would come as some surprise to them that Teruko was nearly fifty. And even more surprising that, up until recently, she’d been in the “vigilante” scene.
“How long have you been a vigilante?” she asked, taking another swig of her soda. The glass looked almost like a shot-glass in her hands.
There was no hint of judgement in her tone. No implication of the fact that what they were both doing was certifiably a “crime” (although both knew this to be true).
And, besides which, Teruko figured it was better to ask “how long have you done this for” rather than “how old are you”?

As he was finishing his drink, Teruko's next remark caused G to almost choke as he didnt know should he spit the drink or swallow it. Eventually he just swallowed his drink "eeehhhh.. .uuuummm.... euuuuggghhh...... hmmmm... ahhhh.... ehhhhh... huuuu....pfff... Ummmm.... Abort abort!!!" thats what G's brain was mentally telling him as he tried to process what Teruko told him "Ehhh... n-no. She does the healing normally. First aid and whatnot." G said and deflected that thought, hoping she wouldnt pry in and ask then what power does Hana have.
Luckily Teruko addressed another part of what he said earlier. She didnt know Vigilantes had ranks, which caused G to raise his brow "I mean... its not a popularity contest but like a most wanted list in my book. I mean, what we do is illegal. But ehh..." he shrugs "I like being considered equal to Redhorn and Thundershock. Its nice. Maybe one day someone wil dethrone the King. Until then I am the King and that" points at the hideout "Is my castle"
She then asked G for how long was he a Vigilante, which caused G to throw away the bottle and start counting on his fingers. Teruko could see on his expression that he struggled with the number. He eventually said "6 ish tops. But a 3, if you consider Vigilantism as hero minus the licence. Its a blurry line when I crossed from evil to good" He kept it a lil vague, most likely because his transition from villainy started about 7 years ago. And only 3 years ago did he stopped being bloothirsty and vile. He didnt know how the change went and what was the first instance of Vigilante to him. When did people start seeing him as a Vigilante? Well, he couldnt tell her. Because he doesnt know nor care

to the life you left behind WATCHING HAJIMARI SPUTTER AT THE REMARK only caused Teruko to arch a heavy brow ridge, the expression settling into one of relaxed amusement when he finally explained that, no, Hanako was not a healer in the quirked sense of the word. She just knew first-aid.
“Ah,” the kaiju said simply, smirking to herself.
It was G’s turn to look bemused as Teruko remarked on the ranking-system. It was more of a “most wanted” in his book. Teruko exhaled sharply as he placed himself at the same level as Redhorn and Thundershock, two names that Teruko was painfully familiar with. Well alright then. This was the self-proclaimed (and perhaps publicly-recognized) Top Dog. Fancy that.
She rested propped her head upon her hand as he continued to wax poetic about his six-ish year stint as a vigilante. The woman raised the bottom of her glass, taking another swig of the soda and polishing-off the contents within.
“Six-ish years, not too shabby,” the woman remarked, setting the heavy-bottomed stein on the ground before her. The crocodilian sighed heavily, letting her eyes slide shut as she turned his words over in her head and surveyed them. He had to be young... young and foolhardy. No veteran vigilante spoke that easily to some woman who just happened to be caught in their middle of their brawl. And as the self-proclaimed king, it was clear that he was cocky-- whether or not this was misplaced was yet to be witnessed. The man spoke easily—something that an ex-celebrity never seemed really felt comfortable doing. Teruko kept her cards close to her chest, and only played them when she had all of the information.
“You ever seen anything like today, in all your years of… kingliness?” she sighed. In other words, was this his first rodeo, or merely one brawl in a line of many others?

"I know you're fucking with me by calling me that. But in regards if I've ever seen anything like today. I'd say, yeah" he said with a shrug. "I've seen it all. Nothing new here. A brawl like a brawl" He then turned the conversation back to her "So you tell me about yourself now. The fact that you fought off the Plutocracy means you're trustworthy. You're not a villain. I contacted people over chat to come here and only certified Vigilantes get in that chatroom. But come on, spill the beans. Whats your story, lady"
G didnt really care much about info. He just wanted to talk, and she can tell as much as she want. G figured maybe she was paranoid about something, hence all the questioning. He wondered if he can calm her down. He'd get Hana, but Hana was busy elsewhere, so it was up to him to mingle and develop his social skills. G wondered how long has she worked as a Vigilante. But he doubted she'd tell. He shrugged that off and just focused on what she would tell him. Which he did and listened to whatever she'd say. Hopefully she would say something constructive. After all thats what he did

to the life you left behind THE WOMAN SMIRKED WHEN G CALLED HER OUT. The smirk turned into a chuckle. She couldn’t help it—yeah, she was messing with him by calling him kingly. You see enough shit, and make it all the way up to “famed actress” before being smacked into obscurity by the press, you stop taking reputations—real or otherwise—seriously.
“I mean no offense by it,” Teruko muttered, attempting to assuage the man’s wounded ego. If it really was wounded.
Of course the conversation turned to her—a rogue interloper, diving into the thick of a vigilante brawl, with no qualms about throwing her weight (or her flames) around? Teruko would be asking questions too.
“Maybe I am just a benevolent bystander, hm?” Teruko remarked, still teasing, “I see a fight, I had to intervene.”
That was the easy response, though. She owed the man at least a few real answers. Teruko rubbed the back of her neck.
“Roughly twenty-five years ago, there was a vigilante gang that ruled the streets of Tokyo proper,” Teruko explained, “They called themselves ‘The Watch’, and for years they gave the police a run for their money. The gang was enormous—big enough that they could cover most of Tokyo proper. For the better part of two decades, they operated relatively covert… someone in the ranks, potentially their leader, had a deep pocket to fund their operations… for the better part of two decades, they conducted their business and narrowly avoided the attention of the police.”
Teruko paused, clearing her throat. Hopefully the man would have the patience to endure her story. She was answering his question, after all, just in a more roundabout method.
“That is, until five years ago…” Teruko sighed, “There was a mole in her ranks, someone who worked their way right up to the top. Queen Kaiju was in her prime, and one of her Inner Circle was with the police. So… she pulled a vanishing act. Five years of keeping a low profile, and relocating to Musutafu… and now here we are.”
Teruko’s tail flicked as her golden-eyed gaze meandered towards G. He was in the company of one of the first vigilantes, easily, and a first-generation quirker.
“Total coincidence that I was here today, though,” Teruko barked back a laugh, “Would you believe it, I was on my way to the restaurant supply warehouse, and thought the brawl was a benefit concert. HA! Boy, was I surprised.”
Talk about fate working in mysterious ways. Teruko had, much to the surprise of both conversationalists, given G a pretty comprehensive look at her backstory. Whether or not he believed it, however, was up to him.

G's ego wasnt wounded. Infact it was stronger than ever and more monstrous than Teruko's appearance. If he was to give in to his ego, there would be a hella lot more titles than just King. He just shrugged it off when she said she means no offence by it. He was pretty casual after all. He then asked Teruko's story, but then she teased more like what if she's an innocent bystander. G rolled his eyes because he was annoyed that his question was meant with more nonsense dribble.
And then he saw her as she rubbed the back of her neck and then finally told her story for real. She started by saying there was a Vigilante gang called the Watch and so on. He listened to her story, not interrupting her. Teruko paused for a moment to clear her throat. And then she continued. He listened with great interest then. And then G spoke, just to make sure he got the story right "So there was a long time ago another Vigilante group. It was called The Watch. They've done decent work that gave cops a run of their money. The leader of said gang was you, Queen Kaiju. But some mole that was in your group, worked their way through the ranks and up to the top. And that mole worked for the cops. You pulled a vanishing act. Kept a low profile for 5 years , and now you work in a bakery in Musutafu next to the Gym?" he repeated, just to understand if he understood her story. To make sure he didnt miss a detail or get a fact wrong.
She then said it was a total coincience she was here. She was on her way to the restaurant supply warehouse and she thought the brawl was a benefit concert. G looked at her with an expression of disbelief. He thought she was fucking with him again

to the life you left behind TERUKO SMILED PATIENTLY AS G repeated her story, nodding her massive head at each point.
“That’s right,” Teruko confirmed when he reached the end. Wow, talk about an eidetic memory. Maybe Mr. Hajimari was sharper than the kaiju gave him credit for.
“And now I’m here,” Teruko said simply.
She reached into her pocket and procured a cell-phone, clicking the button on the side to check the time. Evening time, roughly a half-hour after the supply store closed. Ah, well. Teruko re-pocketed her phone and sighed, sprawling on the floor.
“So it’s been a while since I’ve been in the thick of things,” the kaiju remarked, “Good to see I’ve still got it in me.”
She closed her eyes and sighed, kicking-up some dust that had been on the ground.
“What about you, King?” she said, the lilt still in her tone. G was a cool guy, so Teruko felt comfortable ribbing him here-and-there, “What brought you to vigilantism?”
It was difficult to place how old G was, with the mess of white hair atop his head. But Teruko assumed he was roughly Hanako’s age—which is to say, younger than her. (Whether or not this was accurate, was unclear.)
She lazily opened her eyes again, glancing appraisingly at G.

G was glad he got Teruko's story right. He nodded. And now she is here. Teruko reached into her pocket and got a phone, clicking the button on the side to check the time. G looked at his wristwatch and nodded. He looked up when she spoke saying how its been a while since she's done any sort of fighting, but exclaimed that she's still got it.
As she kicked some dust from the ground. She teased him and asked what about him, again teasing him and calling him King. She asked him what brought him to Vigilantism. G crossed his arms and looked at the sky for a moment, before looking back at Teruko to answer her "I've always wanted to be a Hero as a kid. But back then those didnt exist. And honestly, that's not what made me become a Vigilante." he looked at her "No, it was guilt" as he did answer he did have a more serious and a more... somber tone "I was at a low point in my life. My lowest point perhaps. Something bad happened and it made me realize I had to change" She could easily get an idea what he was like just based on his costume. His Vigilante costume was his villain one. He was a thug, a gangster and from that one could easily tell what was he like. Hell, the whole skull symbol he has going on. What hero or good guy would have a symbol of death as their well.... symbol
In his story, G didnt delve into it too much what got him to Vigilantism. Yeah, he wanted to do good and save people as a kid. But life was cruel and irony existed where he was forced to do the exact opposite. And only when he really lost a control of not just himself, but his quirk did he realize he had to change. And that step was to become a Vigilante.

to the life you left behind THE KAIJU WOMAN LISTENED ATTENTIVELY to G’s side of the story, which—admittedly—gave her some information without giving her much at all. It left more to be desired. Like, sure, he ideated heroes as a kid, but… then what? He did something bad, and felt guilty about it? So he was a vigilante to make reparations?
And though, sure, he dressed like a thug, fashion wasn’t enough for the Kaiju to build an entire narrative around. Hell, Teruko dressed like a man, half the time, and that meant virtually nothing in terms of her backstory or demeanor.
“We all do stuff we aren’t proud of,” she sighed, “What matters is what you do afterwards.”
Honestly, the attitude of moral absolutism in today’s kids was a difficult thing to navigate, particularly when previous generations didn’t have the luxury of being government-sanctioned heroes.
And though Teruko respected other peoples’ need for privacy, his backstory was just vague enough that it left more to be desired. So Teruko would sort-of pussy-foot around what meager details the other vigilante had provided.
“So you had a dark, mysterious past,” Teruko summarized, “And that pushed you towards being a vigilante? To make-up for it?”
Her tail curled coyly.
“Not the strangest backstory I’ve heard, at any rate.”

Ironically as Teruko couldnt build a narrative out of fashion. Thats exactly what she could've done and it would've been true. In a way, the answer was hiding in plain sight. G was incredibly unpredictable with his thinking process and lazyness. He loved this outfit, whether it be for heroism, vigilantism or villainy. This was his image.
G nodded when Teruko spoke that they all do things they arent proud of. She sighed as she continued. What matters is what you do afterwards. G nodded once again. "I'm glad you think that. Not many people have your view of things" he told her.
Soon Teruko did her own summary. And G would nod once again "Yep. Basically. Besides, I dont wanna dwell on it. Its the past, it wasnt nice. I dont want it to define me any more. And I dont wanna be one of those edgy emo kids who are dark and brooding over it. I'd rather think about some good stuff like how we beat the Plutocracy and how can we all chill and celebrate and... and the beach! I love the beach" G said as he really didnt wanna dwell on the not nice history. He wants to talk about the now and maybe get to know Teruko

to the life you left behind A BARK OF LAUGHTER ESCAPED the woman as G complimented her, and she grinned a grin that showed all of her triangular teeth.
“Not a lot of people have led the life that I do,” she replied. The kaiju had worked with all manners of people, over the years. Vigilantism attracted all walks of people, not always altruistic. That didn’t mean that Teruko worked with them, necessarily. But she had become familiar with them.
G pushed back, though—even with the kaiju’s gentle prodding for details, he insisted that he “didn’t want to think about those dark times” for a sundry of reasons. Well… it didn’t take a stretch of the imagination to piece together a story there. Hopefully he hadn’t murdered anyone outright, but… well, it had to be something criminal, or at least unsavory.
The kaiju cleared her throat and pushed herself into a seated position, first, and then rose to her feet. She’d finally cooled off plenty, from laying on the ground, so that she could walk home.
“I should get going,” Teruko announced. She leaned forward, retrieving her emptied mug from the ground where she’d been lounging. She set it upon the table.
“It was nice chatting with you, Hajimari-san. Don’t be a stranger.”
