"Hiya, mom! I'm back!"
The moment Sean got back from England and headed to his house, the first thing he did was run up to his mom and give her the biggest hug. While it was fun in England, the boy did miss Japan and his mom. "So good to be back!" The lady smiled as she patted her son's head and ruffled his hair a bit. "So how was England? Did you have fun?" The boy grinned widely. "Tons of it! I saw some of my old classmates, and some old friends too! I watched them take part in a bunch of awesome events and tournament fights." The boy then sighed as the smile vanished from his face. "Even if one of them was a bit of a downer."
Of course, Sean was referring to the Miku and Rowan match. Gosh, that was just unfair beyond words! Two friends having to face off against each other. Why did fate or whatever had to be so cruel? Why couldn't they both just win on account of being awesome? Now that would have been far better in the boy's opinion.
Raising her eyebrow, Umi asked, "What do you mean? Why are you upset? Wait, it's the Miku and Rowan match you're talking about, isn't it?" Sean sighed. There was no use in hiding it. She had naturally watched the match on TV, she knew that Miku was a friend of the boy's, and she was more than familiar with how her son felt about Rowan. "Yeah. After the match, something happened. I... it was bittersweet." Umi nodded. "Yeah, I can understand. It's great to see someone you care about win, but seeing someone you care about lose, it's just..."
Sean shook his head. "No, not that. Well, not just that, I mean. You see, after the match, Rowan and I..." His face began to go red and his next words were nothing more than a stuttering unintelligible mess. But The woman completely understood. She immediately smiled as she got excited. "Oh. My. Gosh! My baby got his first kiss?! AAAAAAA! I'm so happy for you! My little baby's finally becoming a man!" As she went over to hug her son, Sean chuckled nervously. "C-come on, mom. Stop that."
The boy quickly realized that things would get off topic at this rate, so he continued. "Anyway, I felt so happy! The girl I really love kissing me, me kissing her back, and finally being able to tell her I love her. It was the best feeling in the world!" Sean then looked visibly upset. "But then I saw Miku. Poor girl was hurt in her match. Which she lost, and against her best friend, too! I can't even imagine how horrible she must have felt! And then seeing her friends abandon her side just to kiss each other? I felt horrible! And I know Rowan felt bad too. I did my best to make things right, to cheer up my hurt friend, but I'm afraid that I might have messed things up. Even with Rowan and Miku telling me it was fine, I have a hard time believing it."
Umi smiled sadly as she hugged her son to try and comfort him. "Listen, you did the best you could in that situation, Sean. So please don't worry. Like you told me before, like you told your friends before, a frown doesn't suit such a warm and bright face. So please don't feel upset. I don't think you're going to lose your friend for something like that. Please don't stress out. It wasn't like you ignored Miku and just focused on Rowan only. Now that would have been horrible. But you're a good and kind person, and your friends know that. So please don't worry about that. Cheer up, and think positive vibes!"
The boy nodded and weakly smiled. "Thanks, ma. I'm doing what I can to make Miku happy after that awful match she had to go through. Same with Rowan. I'm gonna do something to make them both feel better. Oh right, speaking of which." Sean suddenly remembered something. "Ma, is it okay if I throw a party for Rowan and Miku sometime? And could they invite over all their friends? Is it okay?" Umi giggled. "Gee, how many people is that going to be? Well, as long as they don't wreck the house, I'm fine with it. In fact, if you want to wait, you could throw the party on your birthday to make it extra special." Sean grinned cheerfully. "Awesome! Thanks, mom!"
The woman then looked at her son with an expression that mocked one of seriousness. "Though I will warn you to be careful, young man. You had better not get up to anything shady during the party. I don't want to end up becoming a grandma so soon." Sean immediately yelled out, his face all red and flustered. "MOM! I'm not like that at all! I would NEVER-" Umi laughed out loud. "Calm down, I was just jesting. I know you're not like that. You're too sweet and pure." The boy's face was still red, mumbling something unintelligibly.
"Anyway, if you're going to throw a party, you'll need to make preparations right? I can always help with that if you want." Sean smiled. "Awesome! I always appreciate the help. Thanks!" With help from his mom, the boy was confident that he could throw the best party for Rowan and Miku ever. Those two girls deserve it. Not just because of the festival, but because they were both great in general. Heck, if it was a party thrown on his birthday, Sean would make it more about Miku and Rowan. Both of them were far more worth celebrating than he was. Still, it would make a sweet gift for his eighteenth birthday. Still, maybe it was best to throw the party sooner. Why wait, after all?
But then Sean realized something. "Hey mom, we spent a while talking about how I was doing, but I never got to ask how you were while I was gone. You weren't too lonely without me, right?" Umi laughed. "Oh, don't worry about me, Sean. I have my friends too, just as you have yours. I wasn't lonely, though I did miss you. But I just took it easy for the most part. I did do some shopping, bought some new things..." Sean smiled. He was glad his mom was doing well. He did worry about her, so seeing her sound cheerful like this was refreshing to see.
"Oh, and I've been trying dating again. I think I found a guy I might like." "Wait, what?!"
