Inhale. Exhale. Huff, puff and grunt. Sweat trailed down her face as the beat thumped in her ears. Jasmine was scowling as she calmly jogged along the sidewalks of Tokyo, just outside the Imperial Palace. Her emerald greens took in the sights as her body dodged the many people around almost as though on instinct... people who didn't give her way, anyway. Not many wanted to be in the way of a girl as tall as her with white hair and the number of scars she had on her body... not to mention the muscles on said body which were, albeit smaller than before, still fairly pronounced.
Jasmine had an old set of earphones tucked away in her ears, connected to her old phone via a cord that had seen some wear and tear. The cord itself had been taken care of and replaced quite a few times, as could be seen by the many different colors it was encased in. The ashen-haired lass herself wore a loose dark hoodie, with a loose red tank and a sports bra underneath; rather loose dark sweatpants that she had tolled up to the middle of her calf, and somewhat worn white sneakers. Her hair stuck out of the hood of her sweater and dangled around her chin, some sticking to her cheek which she very promptly blew out of her face.
It was still early morning by the time Jasmine woke up. Looked like Red Horn had still been sleeping after their conversation the other night and so the lone wolf figured she might as well start early with her triumphant comeback to might. Hah. As if. She knew she still had quite a long way to go to reach the heights that she had once previously attained, and today was going to be a test of exactly how long a road awaited her... and that was just to become as strong as she used to be. Part of her didn't even want to think about how far she still needed to go, and another part welcomed the challenge with open arms.
She smiled to herself through the shadow her hair and hood cast over her face. A fierce, competitive smile... one that made her feel a little giddy. As a result, her jog turned into a flat out sprint. Mia would likely be up by now. Might as well see if the Red Oni missed Jaz as much as she said she did.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Jasmine had reached Mia's office/apartment within about twenty minutes. Her shirt and hood stuck to her sweaty skin as she stopped for a few brief moments in front of Red Horn's office to catch her breath. Panting, she wiped the sweat off of her face with the back of her fist before making her way inside. Surely enough, Mia was already up, and Jaz offered a quick salute as she came in the door.
"Yo. Mornin'," she greeted, walking in. "Sorry, wanted to get out for a jog. Get some fresh air." She then paused before glancing at Mia... the smile returning full force. "Y'know, before that spar we talked about last night. I'm rearing to go, by the way."

Normally a surprisingly early bird, Mia was left sleeping a little deeply after last night. In part, it was thanks to the woman she’d take home from the bar, their natural stirring and her annoying keen senses that’d wake her up after a night of the drink, but with her company sent home and the only other lodger she had in another room, Mia got a somewhat deep sleep, at least compared to normal. The wonder a handful of extra minutes could do for ya eh?
When she finally pushed up and out of her bed, pulling down a plain white shirt and some cargo pants, she’d take a second to get her barings, pushing through to her living space and the spare room, noticing the door was ajar and peering inside. “Ay Jaz?” She’d start in a quiet voice, not wanting to wake her if she wasn’t already stirring… only to find the bed empty. Huh. For the briefest moment, Mia wondered if it had just been a vivid dream but the slightly used state of the bed told her it wasn’t. The next moment, she questioned if she’d just been used for an easy place to rest and an early morning ditch but… nah. Jaz wouldn’t do that. She ditched out a year ago but she had a good reason. As Mia looked over the empty room she just… smiled.
“Well… best get breakfast going…” Noticing her fridge hadn’t been raided for anything, she made sure to get a hearty breakfast going for the company she fully believed would soon be returning, laying down almost a dozen strips of bacon, sausages, getting some eggs on the go fried and scrambled, ultimately just going the whole nine yards as she’d soon be throwing in some hashbrowns and even getting some toast buttered and ready. By the time she heard the downstairs door open the scent of her cooking had already found it’s way down to the office level.
“Mornin’” She chimed back with a two fingered salute, but she didn’t turn her head away from the kitchen space, not even realizing that the kid had saluted too, dishing up the breakfast onto two… disproportionate plates, getting a lions share herself but still giving Jaz a hearty amount. “No worries. Maybe leave a note next time though.” She cheekily remarked as she turned with both plates in hand, offering the smaller one across. “And how about before we talk about me kicking your ass, you get some food down ya so you’ve actually got an ass worth kickn’?~” She teased with an even cheekier smile as she headed for the couch, lifting up a sausage sandwich from her plate and taking a hearty bite of it, grease dripping out onto her plate from the monstrous mauling she was giving her breakfast. “Sit down… get some food into ya-“ Munch munch. “And then… I’ll take ya out somewhere we can go ham… ya know. Assuming you still got what it takes to keep up.~”

After having come back, Jasmine had quickly made her way into the kitchen where she'd seen Mia already working on the breakfast she'd mentioned the night prior. Her nose having already caught the whiff of a full fuckin' American breakfast, Jasmine could barely hold herself back from drooling. How long had it been since she'd have a properly made breakfast and not some bun she'd bought at a gas station with loose change? Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck, she could barely hold herself back as she stared at the Oni's back with wide eyes, her mind barely registering the mock comments Mia was throwing at her.
"I'll have you know my ass is still top of the line... though I will not say no to this here fuckin' treasure," the ashen-haired lass commented as her peripherals were firmly locked onto the plate approaching her. The moment it was laid out in front of her Jasmine had forgotten about any kind of manners and had just dug in, scarfing down on food like she hadn't eaten in weeks... and while that wasn't entirely true, it wasn't outrageously incorrect either.
The food was finished in give or take ten minutes with Jasmine leaning practically moaning after the many flavors had their way with her taste buds. She leaned back on the chair she was sitting on, spread her legs and let out a hearty, content sigh... followed by a burp that she didn't even bother hiding. Not like Mia cared anyway. The wolf laughed at Mia's comment, "Considering how I used to be, I probably don't... well, not yet, anyway. But what I've lost in the sheer strength department I can easily repay back in other ways," -namely intelligence and experience- "so..." she glanced at the Oni, a smile so confident it might've come across as borderline nostalgic to the Pro Hero, "while I appreciate the breakfast - which was fucking awesome, by the way -...what say you we quit playing house and get to the fun part? AKA, beating the shit out of each other?"

Ever glad that her third greatest talent, her cooking, was appreciated with just as much vigor as her foremost talent that Jaz had experienced, Mia took a moment to just watch her satisfy herself on the meal, a soft smile on her lips as she just got to… enjoy some good food. Maybe it was exaggerated a little from the life she’d been enduring for the past few… weeks? Months now? Either way, whatever brought on such a reaction, that didn’t change just how satisfied Jaz looked when she was done, Mia not far behind as she suckled a bit of spilled egg yolke off her hand from where it had spilled out of a makeshift sandwich, meeting Jaz’s gaze as she teased more about their sparring match… after a hearty belch.~
“Heh… that cheeky confidence of yours hasn’t been worn down it seems…” She teased mildly, brushing a teatowel across her lower face, parting her lips to speak but quickly pausing, holding a finger up as she rested a hand on her chest. There was a light rumble even Jaz could hear emenating from Mia’s torso, before it burst out of her maw, a burp bordering on a roar pouring out of her with an odd thickness to it before she gave her chest a light pound, a softer, much briefer belch following as she cleared her system. “’Scuse me.~ As I was about to say, much as I’d love to suddenly show off my underground training facility in the basement, I ain’t got one…” She’d rise up and head for the door, leaving the plates on the coffee table and hoisting a bag she’d left by the door over her shoulder. It definitely sounded heavy, heck Jaz might have heard bricks rattling around in it and it was about as large as Mia’s own Torso, but she didn’t show any clear signs of struggling with it. “That what you’re wearing?” She wasn’t judging just checking, before dipping her head to the hall. “Come on then.”
A short ride in Mia’s truck later, not really able to justify a more ‘explosive’ means of travel since the girl wasn’t officially an intern or anything right now, she drove them far outside of Tokyo to the point green open fields were a lot closer to the norm, driving along a dirt path for some time before the two of them came to a log cabin with a brick oven out in a dirt patch with a few benches and garden furniture outside. The sort of thing that could easily be used properly or an impromptu barbecue with a bit more class than your average metal grill. As Mia got out, she hoisted the hefty bag out of the back of her truck and dropped it by the front door.
“What’ya think?” She asked, pausing for a moment as she looked back over her shoulder at the place, dusting her hands off. “Had to buy the land but built the place myself… probably accidentally violated a building code somewhere with it but it holds together…” She shot back a cheeky grin before gesturing for Jaz to follow. “Come on, being top hero pays for a good chunk of land, but probably best we go a bit deeper so the neighbours don’t complain.” Notably Jaz wouldn’t see any other structures in any direction, beyond the much taller buildings that made up the Tokyo skyline.

Jasmine hadn't said a single thing about there being a lack of an underground training facility, nor anything about the truck, nor the route they took to reach their destination, nor about the destination itself... at all. Rather, Jasmine's emerald greens watched the sights from behind the windshield with an acute sense of interest. She couldn't remember the last time she had been outside a large city which was likely why she was enjoying the scenery surrounding the Imperial Palace so much earlier today during her jog. Even now she had her arms and legs crossed, her posture calm and relaxed. The seat belt tightly fastened around her, she was relaxing in her seat while watching everything whiz past them, a small smile making its way to her lips as she'd begun feeling a strange sense of serenity; some actual peace of mind which she hadn't felt in so long it felt almost foreign.
Having stayed relatively silent during the trip, alone in her own measly thoughts and deliberations about everything that had happened to her in the past, Jasmine had quickly shifted gears when she realized that she needed to walk the talk of moving forward. She'd been so occupied trying to convince those around her that she'd moved on she forgot to convince her own brain to do it to. As such, she instead begun to consider the things that were awaiting her after a few good sunsets and sunrises.
Going back to the dorms. That was probably the idea that she was most afraid of. It was that mere concept of going back to those same hallways that she was afraid would remind her of so many things; so many painful memories that were once what helped her sleep at night. A once cozy room, stuffed to the brim with things that two girls shared among one another... would now just be a set of plain walls and a dresser housing enough clothes to only last the wolf a few days. The thought made her sigh internally.
Then there came the school itself. Or rather, the people there. Mia was the only person who, as of now, knew that Jasmine had come back. She was the very first person the wolf went to since there really wasn't anybody else. There was Jaeger, of course... but after what had happened in the states she couldn't very well look him in the face anymore. But she was wrong. She knew that. There were a couple of people she wanted to see and reconnect with, and a large part of her hoped that those people felt the same. She sighed once again when the image of a bubbly redhead popped up in her head... though this sigh was more of a sense of amusement and a certain glint of warmth the lone wolf recognized far too easily coming out into the forefront, making the ashen-haired lass snicker to herself.
A deep concern had overtaken her then; a concern that followed her from America itself, if she were to be painfully honest. She had nowhere to go, so she chose to come back to the one place that she'd left behind without wanting to. The only question remained... would that place want her back? Mia clearly seemed like she was all in favor of it and knowing the Pro Hero she'd do everything in her power to get Jasmine back in. That thought alone was a relief in and of itself. Then again, Jasmine wasn't one to rely on the kindness of others farther than she herself could manage and she couldn't help but wonder if she'd accept the Pro's help if the school itself didn't want her back.
Both pleasantly and worriedly transfixed by her own thoughts and the sights that kept flying by her like the clouds themselves, Jasmine hadn't even realized that they had finally arrived. It was Mia's voice that startled the lone wolf out of her stupor, making her jolt back into reality from whatever confines her mind had locker her inside. What’ya think?, the bulkier woman asked, and the ex-student-in-training couldn't help the whistle that came through her parted lips at the sight of the steadily growing cabin.
"A beautiful home away from home," Jasmine breathed out simply yet genuinely, a little in awe. As much as she knew Red Horn, she never would've guessed that the rowdy lass could've ever considered having a place like this. She had to admit, a cabin in the mountains or woods, somewhere far away from civilization where she could rest, relax, unwind and de-stress from society and all of its bullshit, hopefully with a lover in her arms to boot, was something she had dreamed of for quite a long while. Seemed like she and the older blonde had more things in common than Jasmine had originally thought. She glanced at her, "I'm good with tech and stuff so uh, if you need help setting up the electrical system or anything like that lemme know..." she paused, taking a moment to chuckle and rub the back of her neck sheepishly. "The least I can do to pay you back for letting me crash at your place, y'know?"
Jasmine nodded at Mia's reasoning, preferring not to cause the Pro Hero any more trouble than she already had... as amusing as that would be. That and, well... the ashen wolf was well aware how... destructive the two of them could get judging by their encounters way back when. Considering that, their tenacity and the thrill of a good fight that the two awoke in one another, Jasmine really couldn't see anything good happening to Mia's hard work on the cabin. Take their quirks into consideration and they'd likely flatten the surrounding terrain... and then Jasmine would definitely had to do more than just set up a few electrical systems.
She'd been watching the bulging buildings of Tokyo in the distance as she walked behind Mia, humming to herself quietly as she took in the nature and the fresh air they were showered in. Remembering something, she'd glanced back at the cabin momentarily... which was now a good distance away, seeming like a small speck in the horizon, "Hey, what was that bag you were carrying with you? Tools and stuff?"

Mia held a slightly proud grin at the initial whistle from her little protégé and the words that followed, glancing back over her shoulder at the place as it was coming together. She could already spend a weekend here if she wanted, albeit with some rooms unfinished it would still be a smidge cramped. Not that she minded too much, sometimes that was a fair enough discomfort to suffer for the relief of just getting away from everything. “Aye ya can say that.” She brushed her fingers along the un-scarred side of her horn, a gesture like a ‘tip of the hat’ as she looked at her place before glancing back to Jaz as they offered to help with the electrical system, considering it for a moment with her eyes drifting upwards. “Mmm… can’t say I’m against that. I never really thought about the electrics or anything but er… yeah.~ Why not? Would be good to have it if I ever end up needing it out here. Bit of long range wifi wouldn’t kill me either.~” She teased with a light smirk, starting to walk past the place out into the fields. “I know you ain’t a charity case, but I ain’t taking it as a favour. Expect to get paid if I need your help aight?”
Her hands sinking into her pockets, Mia’s mind idly drifted as she walked, just taking slow, heavy breaths as she considered what was ahead of them. The fight itself. Her ‘Red’ had been more and more in control lately but it required some sacrifices. Some outlets even tried running headlines that she’d ‘lost her spark’. Not because she was doing any worse of a job but the showmanship and the vigor she usually performed it with had been lacking since she’d tried to keep herself more under control… she was sure she’d be fine though. Heck, if there was anyone she trusted to handle it if it came out, it was someone like Jaz… one of the few people who could literally knock some sense into her.
She was brought from her thoughts by Jaz’s question, her mood lifting a little but it was almost lit in neon that she’d had something on her mind the moment prior. Still, she answered the question readily enough. “Oh, I er, work with construction crews sometimes when they’re repairing the city after quirk-attacks. My dad officially works in that line too. So whenever they have surplus they’d have just sold on anyway, I buy it off ‘em. Cheaper than buying it from the source and it does my Dad and his chums a favour to boot, and I’m left with some supplies for this place.”
She’d stop at the end of her sentence, the cabin a fair enough distance back now that even if one of them knocked the other towards it they’d have plenty of time to halt their momentum before they caused any damage. Mia just took a moment, a deep breath of the fresh air… and her tusks began to peek over her top lip in a wide forming grin, easing her shirt down off her swelling arms and tying it about her waste by the sleeves, looking to Jaz with a growing flair in her eyes. “Well… ready then kiddo?~”

Jasmine, as she walked behind the larger pro hero and listened, couldn't help but roll her eyes far too overdramatically as she groaned aloud, "Damn it, here I am just offering my services as a thank you for giving me a roof over my head, and my food, and my laundry, and a recommendation for work... and you still want to pay me," she complained... yet still managed a smile and a laugh after shaking her head. "I swear you're one of a kind. No, you're not paying me. Go donate that stuff somewhere cause I'm not taking it." And yes, she did do the cheeky yet classic 'stick-out-tongue-and-pull-your-eyelid-down' thing just to come across as childish.
In retrospect, that might've just been something of a... tension breaker, if you would. Jasmine couldn't lie, she was quite nervous. She was well aware that Mia wouldn't go too far and injure her beyond recognizable belief. The ashen wolf also knew that she'd be able to hold her own against the towering Oni to the point that defeating wouldn't be easy for Mia either. She knew that nothing but fun awaited Jasmine in this fight, and yet... the girl still felt incredibly nervous and she knew exactly why.
She was far too worried to be exposed to the fact of how much weaker she'd gotten.
A sigh left Jasmine's lips but she quickly swallowed any of her negative emotions down to just... focus on what Mia was saying. It wasn't often that the two females talked about anything other than fighting. Hell it'd been a long time since they talked altogether. This was an incredibly welcome change of pace that Jasmine had silently thanked Red Horn for. "Construction, huh..." she mused to herself. "Might not be a bad idea to get into it myself. Y'know, good training and all of that. Plus... building my own cabin somewhere in the mountains sounds pretty damn tight."
Finally. It was do or die. They were now at the location of ground zero, quite a ways away from Mia's home away from home. Jasmine peered over Red Horn's shoulder as the Oni grinned with her tusks out, double checking for herself that the cabin was indeed far enough to not be in any danger. Nodding to herself once that was confirmed, Jasmine began to stretch. Rotating her hips, her head, neck, shoulders and extending her arms to either side, she moaned to herself as quite a few bones popped back into place, making her body, which had been stiff from all the nerves, relax and get into the groove.
It was then, after her stretches, that Jasmine provided the Pro Hero with her full and undivided attention in the form of a confident grin. "First time we've faced off in a while and it's the first time that you're officially the number one..." The muscles in her body tensed as she felt her blood begin to boil. Sparks began to flicker around the wolf and her eyes very quickly shifted from a sharp emerald to burning crimson. "Guess I don't have the leisure of holding back this time. Come on, let's do this!"
With a valiant cry, Jasmine launched herself forward and towards the Red Oni in a sprint, hightailing it as fast as she could. Grinning as she faked a kick directly at the older woman, a sudden explosion sent Jasmine barreling into the air, far and fast enough that her opponent would be unable to actually grapple her... hopefully. Another explosion quickly followed suit, this one slamming Jasmine right into the ground as soon as Mia would begin angling herself to go into aerial combat. The ashen wolf was behind Mia, hands and feet glued to the ground as sparks flared around her. She'd begin raising her arms as she collected all of the strength she had. It was now or never.
Roaring like a wild beast, Jasmine unleashed an explosion from either hand as soon as she pointed her palms at Mia's back, unleashing her strongest blasts from the get-go. She'd grit her teeth, feeling the recoil hit instantaneously. Crap. Used to be the first one was a freebie. She made a mental note, trying to pin-point her threshold.

As Jas teased back that she was trying to offer this all as payment for her giving her a place to crash and all that Mia just held a cheeky grin and glanced back across to her, resting her hands in her pockets as they walked. “Bitch please. I don’t take charity.” She chuckled right back to her, shaking her head. As she was called one of a kind and enforced that she wasn’t paying her though, Mia ultimately gave a slow confirming nod. “Aight aight… maybe I’ll just put it towards a birthday present or something.~ When’s your birthday again?~” She flashed a cheeky grin that showed she was definitely joking with her sparring partner… but it would be a good thing to try and lock into her memory all the same.
Mia took it in as Jas talked about getting into construction herself, both for the natural exercise of the activity and also the fact that it’d help her develop a place like this for herself in the future. “Well I mean, if anyone’s gonna accept the Red Horn recommendation it’s gonna be my dad. I could see if he’ll text you for an extra hand on any contracts his place gets but… hey we’ll tackle that when we do. No rush on getting a job eh?” She gave Jas a playful little nudge, though maybe just enough to briefly knock her off balance with a smirk.
As Jas limbered up for their battle, Mia herself glanced back for a double check, rubbing her shoulder as she confirmed her developing Cabin was a safe ways away before starting to back up a bit. She didn’t feel the need to ‘limber up’ so much, instead popping her knuckles against the opposing palm and twisting her neck in either direction, a few satisfying pops and cracks sounding off as she did so. “Geeze you’re popping like a… well, microwave popcorn bag. How long’s it been since you’ve had a good stretch?~” She’d tease idly, rubbing her thumb into the back of her other palm, her fists apparently the only part of herself she felt like getting ‘ready’ for the fight ahead.
When Jaz teased her about it being the first time she’d been number one, Mia’s brow rose a little as she actually realized that. “Huh… yeah you left before the first real ranking huh?~ I mean personally I’d have preferred it not just be a popularity vote but I’ll take what I can get.” She let out a brief little laugh, but quietened as she noticed the sparks in the air around her sparring partner, lowering her stance a little, her tusks growing a slither of an inch further up over her top lip as Jaz made her first move.
Jaz faked a kick and blasted herself into the air before Mia could punish her for it, swinging a low level punch at thin air, prepared to hold back as she got an idea for what Jaz could handle. Her red eyes flicked up to the sky as she spotted the heroine in training in the air above her. She crouched low, ready to join her in the sky, having gotten a lot more comfortable with aerial combat since they last met, but as ever, Jaz was VERY quick to react, suddenly on the ground behind her instead, with Mia having just been ready to kick off the ground on her own terms.
A blast roared off against her back and rather than continue to kick off, Mia took advantage of her crouched position and dug her heels in deeper. She felt the dirt piling against the toes of her boots as the explosive force against her back forced her forward and deeper into the ground like that. But beyond that… she moved fairly little. Her stance remained strong and she felt a soothing breeze against her back. She couldn’t see it, but the back of her shirt and tank top had a gaping hole in it, and the flesh of her back had started to form patches of rough, dry red, something Jaz may vaguely remember from the end of their last spar over a year ago.
Mia, not realizing that had begun to spread already, rose up and glared over her shoulder with a wide grin. “Aw come on kid… I remember you packing a bigger punch than-THAT!”
Swirling on her heel, Mia brought the back of her arm towards Jaz. With a trained motion she seemed like she was about to swing it directly across Jaz’s face with enough force that the explosive girl might have expected her nose and several other facial features to shatter against it. At the very last moment Mia’s arm broke into a dead stop, but the force behind it seemed to continue. The cushion of air between her arm and Jaz’s face borderline shattered with explosive force of her own that’d likely be able to knock Jaz off her feet, Mia fully spinning around as she stood, out of a combat stance, borderline swaggering with confidence as she closed any new distance between them with a leisurely walk.
“Come on kid… surely I’m not the only one with new tricks!~”

Even as her blast roared and shook the air around them violently, the ashen wolf knew that something had gone horribly wrong. The detonation ricocheted all across her bones but it just didn't feel... right. Something about it had been familiar yet all too foreign at the same time. Yet Jasmine had very little time to reflect on what exactly that might've been; as soon as the dust cleared enough for the lass to be able to discern what had happened to her target she was greeted with an ominous glare and a grin that promised nothing but pain.
Fuck, fuck, fuck...! Jasmine yelled internally as she could feel the strike before it had even come. Eyes as wide as saucers as terror filled her face, she barely had enough time to try to raise her arms to try to defend as much as possible. The attack, however... never came. Jasmine's eyes lifted to glance from in between her fingers, only to see Mia's arm suspended in the air, right next to her... and then boom! As if hit by a freight train, the air pressure from Red Horn's attack sent Jasmine barreling sideways, hitting the ground much a like a ragdoll.
Yet while Jasmine's body and instincts had dulled, her mind hadn't. Gritting her teeth and growling, the wolf slammed her claws and heels into the ground, halting her momentum after she'd drug along the soil for a good few feet. Adrenaline had already kicked in, making her breath erratic and uneven as sunburnt eyes rose to meet the Oni.
The ashen-haired lass clicked her tongue at Mia's banter, feeling her anger momentarily spiking. No, she was right. This wasn't right. Something was off. What in the hell was that? It hurt like hell but there wasn't even a fraction of what Jasmine was capable of packed in that blast. The taunting wasn't helping as Mia slowly approached with enough swagger to make Jagger jealous. Come on, Jaz. Get it together!
Jasmine's eyes rose, the fire in her eyes dimmed slightly as she forced a grin, "Lucky shot," she commented, forcing herself to stay confident yet it was all too obvious that something was forcing her to hold back. Darting low, Jasmine erupted into a rush again, bobbing and weaving, zigzagging with the help of her explosions to try and confuse the Pro Hero... up until the point that Jasmine had fully circle around her at relatively fast speeds. One more explosion at her feet sent her upwards, attempting an explosive uppercut straight to Mia's jaw.

“Like my new trick kid!?~” She called out with her arms out open, almost inviting Jaz to come back after her as she took her leisurely walk towards them, guard somewhat lowered. For a moment she was just being cheeky, cocky… but she could tell this wasn’t quite the Jaz she once knew too, and Mia needed to test here if they really were like souls. Few times in her life had Mia bottled something up or hid a part of herself from others, had self doubts but.. the few times she did her own mentor, a beast of a man by the name of Hughard, knew how to get it out of her head. The old fuck had always been the kind to make sure she never fully gave into a rage, but when he needed to get something out of her, that was always the way to go.
Jaz wasn’t saying much, seemed to be trying to get their head in the game but Mia’s had never left. She followed the sharp, frantic motions. When you rush across city rooftops at near enough a hundred miles per hour on a regular basis you get pretty good at catching things in motion like this. Even with the zig zag approach Mia didn’t seem too worried or frantic, her eyes moving more than her head, ready to shift in the other direction should she need to.
Another burst, Jaz was behind her… but Mia didn’t fall for it. Two attacks from behind? Yeah, wasn’t gonna happen from her. Another burst and Jaz was at her front trying to uppercut the pro heroine, her red eyes just barely catching the pale skin tones that rushed up towards her and.
Clap!
With an almost unsatisfying sound of skin simply meating skin, Mia’s hand wrapped entirely around Jaz’s forearm. She didn’t block the attack by absorbing it into her palm. Oh no. She simply just… grabbed Jaz. It was inneficient. By all means Jaz should have still had the momentum needed for her fist to slip up with Mia’s arm and clock her jaw, but with a simple grasp, like catching an arrow mid-flight, Mia had just stopped her sparring partner dead in her tracks, with her feet off the ground.
Mia looked et her… disappointment washed over her face, moreso at herself for what she was about to do, but Jaz wouldn’t know that. Rapidly enough it was replaced by fury, first quiet as she said. “That all?”
She wrenched Jasmine up above her head as she shifted on point, rearing in the other direction as she slammed a foot into the ground, dragging the ashen blonde through the air and slamming her down into the ground on her back, the soft dirt splashing out around her as Mia yelled over the sound of the impact. “ONE YEAR AND THIS IS ALL YOU GOT!?”
As if to add injury to insult, Mia didn’t let Jas catch her breath, tugging on her arm, wrenching her from the dirt, and slamming her foot into the kid’s side in a kick that sent them skyward with no ground to help halt their momentum, calling to them as they barrelled through the air.
“Weren’t you on the fucking run from the mafia or some shit for a year!? You seriously telling me this is what you walked away with? Going fucking BACKWARDS!?”

Ah, there it was. That face. The face that Jasmine had seen in her dreams so many times in the past half a year. Not strictly Mia's face, no. It was more so the expression. Disappointment. She'd let someone down again and the only reaction she could possibly muster was amusement. Laughter. What did Mia expect? What did anybody expect? Jasmine was just a colossal fuck up who just kept going and going and going, storming forward to failure, ignorant to everything around her crashing and burning in the wake of her chaotic footsteps. Why did they expect anything?
Aren't you angry? Despite the abuse that her body was now going through courtesy of Red Horn, the singular question that echoed in her mind hit her like a bullet through the chest. Anything external to her thoughts had been voided and deemed extraneous. Even as her body clamped up and reacted to the pain, even as she choked as her lungs temporarily gave out the ashen wolf hadn't felt nor seen anything. Deep in her mind, emerald had met lilac as Jasmine gazed at a reflection of the past. The memory's golden mane swayed pridefully as deep eyes stared down at what was now a wolf without a pack; an omega, left to die by its lonesome self all because it just wasn't strong enough.
Aren't you angry? Her voice would ask her again, filled to the brim with the many colors of life. A dark, seemingly endless void surrounded the confrontation of lion and wolf, seething with hollow promises and a vague call for action. The lion remained calm as the wolf barred its dull fangs, growling up a storm, ashen fur standing on end. A hand reached around the lion's neck, wrapping around with volatile intent. Claws dug into skin and drew blood, chipped emeralds flaring with rage and a snarl fit for a cheated vagabond.
The pale abyss had grown somber with the sound of water clashing against the hardest of surfaces. The wolf froze as tears mixed and dulled the blood that the prideful lion had shed so many damn times, ever since she was just a cub. The dull canine fangs slowly pulled away, crimson trickling down its gums, onto its tongue and down its throat. The wolf felt it then. Warmth. A fire, brighter than the sun itself yet slowly dying, leaving vestiges of itself behind for the wolf to use as a beacon.
I'm sorry, she heard, and as the wolf stared down at the dying lion, all it could see was sorrow. The neck in her grasp was slowly fading. Eyes, once a bright lilac, were dimming. Tears flowed down a pale cheek as golden hair begun to turn to ash. No! she screamed, her voice nothing more than a desperate orphan's cry. Flailing arms reached yet hadn't managed to hold onto anything. An explosion of grey ash that took away the form of the once prideful lion, leaving behind fragmented shards that began to burn a searing fire. There were no words. Only a feeling. An apology. Regret... and above all else, a stubborn refusal to give up. It surrounded and spread around the lone wolf, engulfing it in the desire she thought she had already lost.
Teeth were grinding against one another as Jasmine clicked her tongue. Yes, she was angry. Angry at her past self. Angry at her current self. Angry at nothing but herself for the way she had turned out. Weak. Pathetic. Time had slowed as Jasmine hovered in the air, seemingly helpless... yet the air around her began to thin with the heat of pure, visceral rage. Fists clenched so hard her nails dug into her palms, drawing blood; she had realized, then, that she'd been nothing but a coward to the point that even the mighty lioness of the past had to discard the pride that she was known for to get the wolf out of her stupor.
Power swirled within Jasmine as she begun to remember everything she had unknowingly forgotten. All of the convictions that bound her to who she was: the heavy regrets, the broken promises and the shattered dreams... yet also the hope that stubbornly refused to die, smoldering like a small yet bright fire in the middle of a blizzard. Slowly but surely as the seconds ticked, Jasmine begun letting go of all of her inhibitions. She knew she was much weaker than she was before and it was perhaps because of this reason that she was mentally holding herself back. Her power required an enormous amount of control and she was too afraid of being unable to control it. That was irony at work, wasn't it? Wishing she wouldn't exist, yet being too scared to risk her life.
What crap, the two voices sung out in unison as the tips of her ashen mane began to burn with fire. Sparks made of gold danced around the airborne wolf's body like a fireworks display. Feel it. Control it... guide it. She felt it. Her strength, slowly coming back to her. Eyes, once dim, began to burn so bright it cast an electric crimson afterimage to follow them. Drifting in the air as everything came crawling to a complete stop, Jasmine felt herself being drawn in deeper and deeper. The world darkened around her as the familiar feeling of sheer undisturbed focus washed over her much alike the radiating head spreading through her veins.
The wolf, once weak and frail, had now merged with the once powerful lion. Once damp and old ashen fur had come back to life, leaving behind a golden fire in its wake as Jasmine twisted in mid air to face the angered Oni, displaying a rage of her own never before seen in her. Sparks of pure energy trickled down her shoulder, bicep, elbow, forearm and wrist... until it fully condensed in the palm of her hand "Shut... the fuck... up!" The wolf roared as she swung her arm right at the devilish female's face, unleashing a fully fledged Mk 3 Buster that had likely been stronger than anything Jasmine had ever used before, even in her peak.
Recoil worked its satanic magic on her limbs but with Jasmine being the way she was she had barely even felt it. Instead, rage and determination fueled the ashen-haired lass as her hair smoldered within a very literal golden fire. She had rocketed back from the impact of the blast but very quickly doubled back, using more explosions to bounce mid-air and send herself flying right back at Red Horn who had been caught in ground zero.
Perhaps it was stupid to think that Jasmine would be able to beat Red Horn at her own game of physical strength, but at this point the wolf cared little. She'd twisted her body while in mid-air, flying towards Mia at great speeds while using her quirk to turn herself into a very literal exploding drill of fire. Howling within the chaos, Jasmine would attempt to slam her fist right in Mia's chest and release yet another Mk3 Buster that would feel like nothing less than an actual artillery missile hitting the Pro Hero right in her smug noggin.

Good… good. She had her yelling. Mia couldn’t help it but a grin formed on her face. That was the fire she was looking for and it was coming back fast and hard. It wasn’t quite there yet though… there was rage. There was a lack of limits, but there wasn’t control. There wasn’t refinement. Jaz was coming back as far as she was concerned but she had a ways to go so Mia wasn’t quite done with her yet. She shifted her stance, clearly taking this far more seriously as she clenched her fists and watched Jaz shift in midair, unleashing a blast down towards her. The raging Oni watched as the air ignited as it barrelled towards her, crossing her thick, trunk like forearms over her face and feeling the weight of the impact bare down upon her.
Burning down across her arms, Mia felt the sleeves of her shirt tear and burn to cinders, halving the length of it and burning away at what was left of her tanktop in turn, the white under-top hanging on by a thread as the eruption of force passed across her, her forearms scorched and burning like hell, but gritting her teeth she stood strong, her heels having pushed back a good foot in the dirt as she yelled up towards Jaz, showing just as much animosity as she had a moment ago.
“I’LL SHUT UP WHEN YOU GIVE ME A REASON TO!” She yelled back, her nails growing out, sharpening faintly, her tusks peeking further up her top lip, and the faintest slithers of red starting to spread from her most prominent veins along her arms. But this was… different. She had yet to notice truly but unconsciously she could feel it. The burning anger and frustration that had started to spread the Red across her skin last time wasn’t there… not the burning sensation across her skin, pounding in her forehead she recalled… but this was oddly soothing instead. Focused in her chest, raging up her throat, pumping through her veins and throbbing with the bulking of her muscles, the shoulders of her shirt starting to tear as she grew larger. “COME ON KID! GIMME A REASON!”
Jaz rushed towards her without mercy or hesitation, seeming to lose a care for their own half of the equation here, Mia could tell they were still frail, compared to what they once where, so excessive eruptions like this were bound to be taking their toll… but that’s what Mia needed. Jaz needed to remember what really fuelled her, and then she needed to feel the consequences to remind herself how to channel it. Hypocritical advice perhaps given Mia’s own issues lately, but advice she’d force on the training heroine all the same.
The fist came in and her arm rose again, turning herself side on. The explosion bursted against her forearm and Mia was sent ripping through the earth with her heels, barely able to hold her stance as she used her other hand to hold her guard arm against the explosion. From her wrist to her elbow, the entire side of her arm that guarded the attack had turned a deep dry Red. Mia could see it. She absorbed it… but she wasn’t gonna let up. This felt… better than last time… it felt good… she wanted Jaz to let loose. RedHorn wanted to let loose…
“That’s… better…” She let out, lowering her arm, a hefty distance now between the two of them as Mia, from Jaz’s knowledge, was pushing her limits to hold out against that, pain still clear on her face regardless. “Still got a ways to go though!”
Crouching low like a coiled spring, Mia burst off the ground, both her forearms burning red, the spread faster than she’d ever felt it before, encompassing her fists now as her body predicted what she was going to do. Her body shot like a bullet itself as she roared through the air towards Jaz’s point of landing, rearing back her right arm and letting out a hefty battle cry from the base of her throat. She swung the moment she should have found impact with Jaz, and she held nothing back this time. She tried for a full impact, needing to force Jaz to have a reason to push herself, be that to dodge or retaliate. Even if she missed her fist would slam hard into the air behind her, a raucous eruption of force coming from her fist.

Ow. Ow. Ow. Fuck! Jasmine screeched internally as the pain from the attack was immediate. Even through the heightened pain resistance threshold that the adrenaline raging in her veins had granted her, it wasn't enough to fully numb the drawback of her Quirk. The ashen wolf grit her teeth as her muscles immediately tensed, every single joint in her arms protesting as her bones seemingly creaked with each movement. The recoil was instantaneous and it pierced through her defenses like a hot iron rod through a slab of ice. Her arms still sizzled with sparks as the blow back from her previous attack had sent her body flying backwards. In spite of her posture being full of holes and her balance less than ideal, the American still managed to plan her feet firmly onto the grass below, her heels dragging through the mud until the resistance cancelled out her momentum.
Eyes burning with the intensity of a thousand suns, Jasmine exhaled sharply as she attempted to take stock of the situation at hand, immediately readying herself for her next clash with Mia. She'd managed to dish out quite a bit of damage to the Pro Hero, especially given the wolf's weakened state. Her explosions had resulted in quite a few nasty burn marks, and while most would have been satisfied with the result against the number one Hero, Jasmine felt nothing but hunger for more. She hadn't had enough... and wouldn't have enough until her opponent ate dirt, regardless if it was Mia or anybody else.
Jasmine knew Red Horn wouldn't give her any time to think and the zone of focus she was in made her ready when the older female came flying at her like a cannon ball on steroids. Fuck, even if she was ready, Jasmine still couldn't help but mentally note how it was totally fucking batshit that something so fucking huge and heavy could move that fast. What the fuck were those red marking spreading along her skin, anyway? Please don't tell me this asshole has some kind of transformation. If she suddenly goes Super Saiyan on me I'm fucking leaving.
As much as she tried to fight against it, Jasmine couldn't help but hearken back to Mia's words just a few moments ago. Is that truly all she had? All she had learned in the past year? ...all she was capable of? No, it wasn't. While Jasmine had definitely grown weaker, a lot about her modus operandi had changed. She still had brute force and she still had the preference of punching through walls using said brute force... yet time was the best teacher, and Jasmine had managed to learn and gain experience through quite the few ordeals. Said experience was easier to apply this time than it usually was, too. Jasmine had fought against Red Horn quite a few times, and while there was no comparing the Mia from a year ago to the Mia of now, the Pro still had a few habits she couldn't shake. Even if the speed and strength of the past were a shadow of what they were now, Jasmine was still able to react just in time and act accordingly.
When the fist came swinging towards her Jasmine ducked low - yet not too low; she knew what such strength would be followed by, and as a result she needed to act fast before the air pressure hit her. Springing back up just as Mia's fist flew by just above her head, Jasmine clapped her hands together... that fucking move... it's been a long ass time! Massive amounts of C2N14x had been collected into her right palm as she thrust it right into Mia's elbow; she knew she couldn't blast through the Pro's brawn that easily, but if she targeted weak spots like joints... maybe she'd have a chance.
Said palm was a shotgun, and yet Jasmine knew it wouldn't have the necessary firepower to dent. As such, Jasmine pulled her other hand, slamming the side of her fist into her right open palm to create a 'muzzle' of sorts just before her skin made contact with Mia's. The shotgun, now effectively a slug round, sounded off incredibly loudly with enough force to shake the air around the two females, a split second before the air pressure from Mia's earlier attack slammed into the wolf with enough force to send her flying again. She groaned out in pain and grit her teeth as she hit the ground with her side and bounced a few times before she finally came to a halt.
The pain was tremendous, but it wasn't like anything she felt after using an Mk3. The shotgun, while incredibly strong and precise, was effectively a condensed Mk2,5. Not as strong as an Mk3 but much more devastating at close range. Her arms were shaking and she felt like they could be ripped off of her shoulders given only a tad of force, but she refused to relent. Bringing her left hand up and pointing two fingers into the smoke where Mia was supposed to be, she opened fire with an explosive hand cannon, firing off blast after blast indiscriminately to halt Mia's approach. She needed time. Just a little bit of time to readjust and get her bearings back.
Then, and only then, Jasmine would be able to go on the offensive... as much as her body would allow, anyway.

YES! Fucking…! Atta girl Jaz!. Mia roared out compliments to her sparring partner as she watched her narrowly avoid the swing of her arm. The air pressure would be following soon but from the speed at which the girl was moving she wasn’t done yet. This was what Mia wanted to see. Speed and fury channelled by Jaz’s keen mind. Mia never relied much on ‘smarts’, but instincts like this, quick, reactive, powerful. She loved to see it and once again she couldn’t fully resist the grin forming on her sharpened maw as her sharp red eyes followed the motions of the ashen wolf ducking under her strike.
A sharp pain flowed through her elbow as she took a VERY precise blast to her joint. Her iris’ shrunk as pain shot up her arm and she could hear the shattering of bone beneath the surface. She’d been planning to shift her momentum and land safely, but even through her hardened red skin the precision of the attack had thrown her entirely off kilter. Her flowing momentum colliding with her own speed sent her careening into a harsh crash, trying hard to control herself as she pushed her shoulder forward to take most of the force against her side, grasping her broken arm and pulling it into herself to hold it close rather than let it ragdoll as she crashed, skimming several times against the dirt before finally slowing down enough to reasonably dig her claws into the ground and bring herself to a stop.
From the earlier blasts and the high speed earth skimming, Mia’s clothes were pretty done for. With her good arm she reached up and grasped tightly at the remaining shoulder of her shirt, ripping it and her tank top remains off in one swift motion as she rose back to her full height. Standing in her torn up pants and a sports bra. The red on her arms travelled up to her shoulders, and from her back it had starded to creep around to start enveloping her chest and abs. She looked to the shattered elbow hanging limply by her side… and tensed her fist tight. An immense roar of agony flowed out of her through the dust cloud between her and Jaz, but Mia’s plan worked to an extent. Her bulging muscles, growing beyond what she was used to, tightened hard around the shattered fragments of bone. FUCK it stung but it gave her use of her arm back… as well as a CONSTANT sense of pain, which only seemed to hasten the spread of Red across her body, starting to form around her tightly closed eyes before throwing her head back forward, a flicker of gold in her Red eyes as she took hefty, slow breaths.
“ALMOST DIPSHIT!” She called out through the smoke. Brief silence… PHWIP. Mia shifted just barely to the side as a shot flew past her shoulder, grinning ear to ear as Jaz wasn’t letting up even blinded. “You almost reminded me why I respected you there!”
Another shot, another, one catching her shoulder and erupting in a small explosion against her skin… honestly she could charge through this but that’d give Jaz too much warning to load up something bigger. As the dust cleared slightly more around her, Mia’s eyes locked onto a natural rock that formed from the earth, an idea forming readily enough.
From Jaz’s perspective, a hefty shadow would start to emerge from the dust, getting larger and clearer as it barrelled towards her. Instead of Mia herself however, the rock she’d found had been torn from the earth and sent hurtling in Jaz’s direction, her own shots giving her rough location away for Mia to take her blind shot. While Jaz was dealing with the hurled projectile, Mia had kicked hard out of the cloud and into the air above, finding herself roughly above the ashen wolf and with a cocky plan in mind. Throwining back one arm, she bared the other infront of her, about to shoulder barge the fucking earth. The arm she’d thrown slammed against the air, giving her a hard kick even in mid flight. She didn’t have the agility and choice that Jaz had in the air, but she’d been working on giving herself SOME options. And if blowing a hole in the fucking planet with her body was an option, she was gonna fucking take it!

Heavy. Her whole body was now gradually starting to feel incredibly heavy, almost as though every single action she took weight about a thousand kilograms each and was hefted over her shoulder like a sack of potatoes. Her chest burned as it heaved up and down and she felt her eyesight dampen for a brief moment, yet Jasmine still forced herself to get back up on shaky feet. The adrenaline was still undoubtedly fueling her, yet it was the sheer desire to win and the stubborn refusal to give up which continuously urged her to stand and try keep trying. Get up! the lion roared in her head, urging the wolf to stand regardless of how shaky its legs were. Don't you dare give up until you have nothing else to give! She could feel the lion's claws sharpen, making her snarl like a feral animal.
Because you're far from done!
"Damn straight...!" Jasmine growled under her breath as she corrected her stance, stumbling a little but managing to stay upright. As she breathed, every gust a plume of smoke which made her lungs throb, she could feel every small movement inside her body; every contraction of every muscle, every ache of every joint, every single cell of blood that flowed through every single vein and artery... the ashen wolf was now hyper aware of not just the fight but of her own self and yet that, ironically and perhaps paradoxically, made her feel the pain inside the very inside of her bones less and less. It was almost as though her body itself was trying to reconfigure itself - muscle tightened around bone, ligament pulled and stretched in on itself, blood pressure heightening in response to her heart rate, taking the driver's seat of her blood vessels manually to redirect a steady surge of blood to where it was needed most. She was very much in her zone and still going deeper, the fight which could no longer be called a spar forcing the wolf into that very same corner that the lion loved so much.
Despite being injured, despite being on what felt like the edge of falling apart and losing, Jasmine, in the heat of the moment, was only getting more powerful. The strength of the past was gradually returning, mixing with the knowledge and the experience she had acquired over all of her fights. Eyes, burning like the the brightest rays of sun on a hot midsummer day, watched as Mia rocketed towards the wolf at insane speeds, intent on nothing but destruction. Red markings burned against the Oni's muscular frame, neither the burns nor the injuries doing much to slow her engine which was now far beyond the sixth gear. Yet the wolf remained calm and steadfast in her stance. Something else was approaching. Much faster. Much closer.
Careening on her heel, Jasmine twisted backwards as the massive boulder had almost managed to make contact, slipping by the wolf by literal inches. Sunburnt eyes were wide open as the ashen-haired lass worked her magic through the assistance of her instincts. A palm jutted out forward and pushed against the side of the boulder before an ensemble of fireworks joined into the fray. The wolf howled as an explosion ripped right through the middle of the massive stone, breaking it into a few dozen smaller pieces. The action itself caused a massive cloud of dust and debris to cover the immediate area, shrouding Jasmine from sight.
She'd seen the sight of Mia in the air and her brain could assume what the next course of action would be with a fair amount of accuracy. The shot to Mia's arm might have done a little more damage than Jasmine herself had expected, but if her assumption was correct based on the pained bellow she'd heard previously. If this were anybody else they would've taken the more safe approach after having their elbow torn apart. But Mia. Oh no. Jasmine knew Mia. There was no way in seven hells that beast of a woman was going to do anything but rush in headfirst and try to obliterate the ashen wolf.
No. Mia was going to go right in with everything she had; unbreakable, incorruptible, unyielding, the Devilish Oni was supposed to be the best out of all of them... and Jasmine knew for a fact the woman was doing her damn best to live up to that.
The wolf grinned a little despite her state of superlative focus; what a person to have recognized her as a rival.
Jasmine knew that the best way to fight Mia was to try and out-do her with speed. More specifically, it was to target the particular cracks in her offense - which have been made far more complicated due to the constant pressure of air following her attacks - and attack weak points such as her joints. Yet what she also knew was that there was no proper way to deal with Red Horn's current plan of attack. As a result Jasmine grit her teeth as she blasted herself backwards, attempting to backpedal out of ground zero with as much haste as she was capable of... and even then, it still wasn't enough. All she could do before she was violently sent back was to bring her hands close to one another and exude a brilliant sphere of energy that culminated into a small yet immensely bright and loud blast, intent on acting as a stun grenade just before Mia's attack made impact.
The blast from her opponent's attack was massive as Red Horn hit the ground, causing a large number of shockwaves to rip through the air and debris. The ashen wolf did her best to bring her forearms in front of her face to guard, yet despite that quite a few miniature stones ripped through her face, drawing blood from her brow and cheek. A larger stone impacted her chest as she was sent flying backwards, her lungs protesting as she gasped for air. She'd flown quite a hefty distance, her momentum only slightly faltering when she ripped through a tree with her back.
Get it together!
"Shut... up!" The wolf roared as she pulled out every trick she had in her bag and twisted her body in the air. The next tree she hit she touched with her feet, propping herself up to strike. Growling like a mad beast, the wolf launched herself directly back towards Mia through the help of quite a few explosions, obliterating the greenery behind her.
With any luck Mia was feeling the aftermath of her flashbang still and was slightly off balance. Jasmine knew her window wasn't large, but it was there, forcefully ripped open by the wolf herself. Explosion after explosion carried her forward, directly into ground zero as Mia would likely would still be trying to get up after her assault. Twisting and roaring, the lioness would hop off of the Oni's back with both feet and an explosion to attempt to keep her down, launching herself into the air once again. She'd outstretch her hand far into the air as sparks crackled around it, collecting massive amounts of volatile energy that would culminate in yet another Mk3... yet this one was a little different.
Instead of pointing and firing - an action that would cause the most amount of damage to her bones - Jasmine twirled her body in mid air, rotating her entire core so she could use the momentum to swing the blast at her opponent. It would be weaker than what it was normally, but with this Jasmine was hoping she could prolong herself to fight for longer. The result of this blast wouldn't only hopefully pin Mia to the ground with even more force than the previous explosion, but it would also send Jasmine even higher into the air, preparing her next form of attack for her.
