Warm.
The air was cool. Black. Night, it was night. But she was warm. Everything was quiet, but she was warm. It was a good kind of warm, not the kind of warm that made her sweat... it was the kind of warm that made her feel comfy, made her feel safe, made her feel content... except she didn't. She didn't feel happy at all, she didn't feel content, she didn't feel anything. She felt so numb she didn't feel anything... but it wasn't the good kind of numb. How was being numb bad? She liked being numb... but she felt nothing, and she felt bad because of it.
She didn't feel her feet moving off of the pavement onto the sidewalk, or onto some grass; she barely even saw the motel or the grounds she cut across. She didn't feel anything, and she didn't see anything, either. She didn't see how run down it was, she just knew, instinctively, that it was empty, that there was barely a life within a mile. She was numb, she didn't think, she just acted, her body doing the thinking for her.
She made a beeline for the one thing she needed right now, and before she put her hands on the door, she looked around, making sure what she already knew, that no one was around and there weren't any cameras. She didn't notice the mold growing on the walls that was a confirmation of this, nor the chipped paint; she wasn't feeling anything, she didn't need to notice, her body could tell that this place was exactly what she needed.
She pushed open the door to the bathroom, and she still didn't see the mold on the walls, the grime on the mirror, or the graffiti on the stalls. She didn't wonder how long it had been since the bathroom had seen a spray bottle, she didn't even register the smell of one very unflushed tonight. She was numb, and not the good kind of numb. She walked up to the mirror, looking past the grime to look at herself. She was still covered in blood... but there was more this time. Her face, her arms, and her dress were splattered with blood, but bits and pieces of more.
She couldn't help but flash back to just a little awhile ago; it was too soon, he wouldn't even be discovered yet, but she already couldn't remember much; it was all a white-hot flash of anger, all she really remembered was smashing... a lot and lot and lot of smashing... a park bench... anger and pain, but that was always there. She started to think a little, becoming a little more self aware, and she wonder; why did she not feel better? She always felt better after a kill, always, but this time.. she was just numb, and not a good kind. What was so different?
Glaring lightly at the mirror, her numbness quickly making her sigh and stop, she looked down at her hands, turning the faucet. She paused, pulling her hands back slightly when the water came out brown. She stared at it, wondering if she wanted to touch it, but the water cleared up quick, and she got to work doing what she came here to do, turning the water brown again as she started cleaning herself up.

feed me, seymour THE GREAT THING ABOUT SUNAHO was that she permitted to twins to wander as they wanted, so long as they periodically checked-in with her. She’d given them a new home, new phones, and had (with the assistance of the Dust Devils) helped them break-in to Zugai’s place and steal the belongings that were rightfully theirs. It was an awful thing to do to Zugai, especially since their actions had gotten him into hot water with Thunder, but freedom was delicious, and actual allies meant security.
So assured where the twins in their own powers that they wandered into a rougher part of town. Ramshackle hotels that charged hourly and hadn’t seen housekeeping in weeks were wedged between boarded-up buildings, dilapidated parks with graffiti’d bathrooms and denizens that were missing some teeth breaking-up the urban monotony. It was a really scummy part of town, that no rational girls would walk at this hour of the night.
Ayame and Suzume were no such girls—they were animals.
And, like animals, they were on a scent—
When one was raised around carnage—killing, devouring, whatever one would call it—you grew familiar with the scent that came with it. Just like getting punched in the mouth elicited the metallic taste of blood, eviscerating a person had its own tastes and smells.
They were passing a low-slung building, with cookie-cutter rooms and a few, darkened cars here-and-there, when they smelled it.
A kill. A recent one.
It was so faint.
Hungry, Suzume advised her sister.
They were always hungry.
The two tromped down the grassy knoll, their steps quick and eager. The scent only got stronger and stronger as they approached the open door of the motel, a soft light beckoning them closer. The two stopped in the doorway, orange-ish eyes roving over the room.
They were disappointed to find the room with the beds empty, and the only occupant to be standing in the back room, just out of view and still upright. Not dead. Very much alive. There would be no easy meals for the two of them.
Suzume, feeling peckish and therefore more upset about this discovery then her sister, bared her syringe-like teeth and snarled in the direction of the room’s occupant for having misled them.
Ayame grabbed at her sister’s arm, at the elbow, pulling slightly. The scent was there for a reason. If the woman wasn’t dead, then she might have… recently killed. It wouldn’t be wise to pick a fight.
We can find something else, Ayame thought to her sister, her tone cool. A dog that was left-out overnight, perhaps?
It’s been so long since we had a person! Suzume snarled as she thought this, turning her bared fangs towards her sister. Ayame hissed in reply, pushing her twin with the palm of her hand. This sent Suzume stumbling just outside of the door frame.
If the room's occupant were to look out, she'd see the two green-skinned twins staring back in. Any glimpse of the woman's gore-covered form would not incur any noticeable reaction in the twins. Which, on its own, was weird. Ayame would bow at the waist, as they'd learned was common in this culture. An apology for their intrusion. Suzume would stand just behind her sister, glowering.

Total silence. Numbness. Muted, faded colors. The whole world was gray and quiet and... and... bleh.. Not the red, though, the pretty, beautiful red that coated her arms, that dripped, that splattered, the most beautiful color in the whole whole world! It was so gorgeous, the color alone was amazing, but the way it acted was even more! ...But it had dried, and it was a darker red now... it wasn't too bad, but it definitely wasn't the amazing scarlet that dripped and splattered. It caked her arms now... it was faded and muted just like this room.
She always hated places like this... the colors always made her depressed and sad... but, they made her feel safe, annoyingly. They felt like home, places like this with rats and bugs and chipped paint were all she ever knew. They were dangerous, with thugs and drunks and druggies, and sometimes even a crazy, but she could always find a place like this and hide away for awhile.... She stopped, pausing, and sighing to herself. She could go back to the apartment... but she couldn't, it didn't feel right. She didn't want to see him, not right now. She was angry with him... or... was she? She couldn't tell, it was hard for her to feel anything...
BAM!
The door slamed open and Luzia's everything froze; her hands, her head, her heart. Her entire body went cold, her head jerking by pure instinct towards the sound, and the site made her go even colder. Two people standing there, right in the door.
Shit.
Just one word went through her head as she stared likea deer in headlights. Two people, two witnesses... did she have to kill them? Anger flared up in her, quietly, like smoldering kindleing that was trying to reignite. She didn't want to kill again, her arms were already sore... but before she could tell herself she would if she had to, one of them... they... they bowed to her? Luzia wasn't sure how to respond, but... they weren't running and screaming, going to tell a cop or something... that was... good?
"Uh...? SHIT!"
She suddenly reached up, touching her face, but in her MASSIVE relief, she discovered her mask, 'domino' someone called it once, was still on her face. At least that was safe... reassured, feeling more confident, Luzia narrowed her eyes at the two. "Get lost, can't you see I'm busy?" She turned away from them, returning to washing her hands, only having the surface gunk off of her fingers, barely even begun to clean. She acted tough, and to a degree, she felt it, but another part of her forced herself to flick her eyes to the mirror, to subtly watch the two for their reaction.

feed me, seymour THE WOMAN SNAPPED TO ATTENTION— they could see that it was a woman in the sterile light—but there was no visible dead person in the room. Ayame had bowed, Suzume had glared. The woman shouted an expletive.
Suzume laughed, she couldn’t help herself—Zugai used to say words like that. Sometimes, Sunaho said words like that, too. “Bad” words, Sunaho had explained. “Swear” words. Words that humans used to express frustration or surprise. Ayame rolled her eyes. Shouldn’t have left the door unlocked.
Ayame entered into the room, ignoring the masked woman’s curt insistence that they leave. She peeked around the bed, searching the floor for the source of the smell of death. No body. No blood, except on the masked woman’s hand.
Suzume remained in the doorway, watching the woman.
See anything, Suzume asked?
No, Ayame thought begrudgingly back. The woman was watching them with understandable suspicion, the twins seemed to ignore her. Ayame stepped up onto one bed, continuing to survey the floor. Then leapt to the next. Nothing.
In the bathroom, perhaps, Suzume suggested?
Perhaps, Ayame agreed, hopping to the other bed, We must lure her out to be sure. Suzume opened her mouth, flashing here syringe-like teeth at the woman and breathing a low, feral hiss. Not the friendliest of sounds, but it was the first thing to come to mind.
In stereo, the twins began to growl, a strange groaning sound growing in their throats.
If we leave, will she follow, Suzume asked?
It is like we are cornering her, hm?
Suzume jumped from the bed, and rejoined her sister.
We want her to leave, so we shall, too.
Suzume nodded.
Do you want to make this into a game?
The more round-faced twin smiled. Yes. A game.
“Taaaaaasu… ke… te…” Ayame said aloud, the word sounding foreign upon her tongue. She looked mischievously at the bloodsoaked, masked maiden. Most words were impossible with their throat structure and their teeth. But “tasukete”… “help”… was well within their phonetic capabilities.
“Help,” Suzume parroted softly.
“Help!”
“Heeelp!”
They took-off, sprinting, from the doorway, giggling absurdly as they cried for help. Sunaho let them run wild, so causing problems for other criminals or villains—with little regard for their own wellbeing—was not entirely out-of-character for them.
As their voices pitched higher, their cries grew noticeably less human, almost bird-like or like the screeching of a door-hinge. They ran quickly across the parking lot, their cries for help interspersed with absurd giggles, hoping that the masked woman would give chase. It was like a toddler or young child getting a grown-up to chase them.

Luzia froze, blinking in surprise; she had to focus, she had to clean, get rid of the evidence, get rid of the beautiful red that coated her arms, get rid of the slightly less beautiful bits of bone and other things mixed with the blood, but a sound made her pause, a sound that she couldn't have expected at all.
A laugh.
The Painter, for a moment, was so shocked that she just froze, but slowly, she turned around, not just looking at but actually studying these weird twins. Green skin, mushrooms growing out of their hair... one of them was searching around for... something? What the hell would they be searching for in a place like this? Luzia grimaced when one of the two hissed at her, showing her teeth that definitely weren't natural, flinching away from it from the surprise. These people were freaks, especially if they weren't screaming and running away, but even more 'cause they just... came inside.
The two of them started to growl at her, making her blink in confusion. Did she do something to them? Were they related to the guy she killed or something? Why were they just growling, why wouldn't they just attack her? They just... stared at her... what the fuck? Would she had to kill them, too? She didn't want to, she was already feeling numb, more killing wouldn't make her feel any better.
"Taaaaaasu…"
Luzia blinked again, her eyebrow quirking. They were trying to talk, but... it sounded raspy... like it was hard to talk.
"ke… te…"
Luzia went wide-eyed, her blood freezing in her veins again, her heart stopping completely. She could see everything, before they even said it again; she could see them screaming and running, people peeking out of their windows, the owner coming out of his office, phones going off, police coming in...
"SHIT!"
The Painter screamed again, and her eyes narrowed, suddenly turning into a glare. She had to kill them after all! They were screaming for help! They'd bring too much attention! Damnit! Bad bad bad bad this was fucking bad! She was gonna get caught at this rate! The Painter chased, and while the two had already reached halfway through the parking lot, she kept up with that easily, a trail of faintly glowing, transluscent pink mist trailing behind her as she already started to close the distance, plasmatic light flowing around her arms as she jumped at them, trying to silence them quick with a neon-enhanced punch.

feed me, seymour THE ONE THING THE TWINS LOVED most of all was the faces that people made. For example, when Ayame investigated the room, the masked, blood-encrusted woman had eyes as round as a full moon. When the girls laughed, she froze like a deer in the headlights of an oncoming car.
And when the girls cried for help they didn’t need.
Well.
She looked scared—and then she looked pissed.
And it was funny!
God, this was the funniest thing they had seen in months!
The girls were quick, but the woman was quicker—neon pink followed her like the wake behind a boat.
But there was only one of her, and two of them—even if the girls were horrendously outmatched, she couldn’t very well chase both of them, right? It would be dangerous for whomever the woman went after—but it would be oh-so fun.
Laughter peeled from their throats—did they even understand the danger that they were in?! Oh, absolutely—but it was fun to chase, even if one was being chased.
Split. Whoever she doesn’t follow, check the room, Ayame hissed telepathically.
When the onlookers heard the laughter, many of them assumed that the teens were simply up to mischief. Their feeble, quirkless couldn’t see the blood spattering the masked figure in the moonlight. All they could see was three teens running through a parking lot, two giggling absurdly and one glowing—it was clearly not worth the trouble, particularly if it interrupted their sleep.
Just three high-schoolers breaking curfew, up to no good, right?
The twins split, Ayame banking right, and Suzume banking left. Ayame was the unfortunate pursued—and though she was active, she was by no means equipped to deal with this high-powered villainess. The woman threw a wild, glowing punch and her fist, and it connected with Ayame’s jaw, sending the more cerebral twin crumpling towards the ground.
She uttered a snarl that was more feline than human, flashing her syringe-like teeth.
Suzume had already banked back towards the hotel, towards the room where the two had interrupted the ceremonious cleaning. As she reached the building, her psychic connection with her sister fizzled silent. She was out of range. Suzume crossed the threshold of the room, bee-lining for the bathroom. She quieted her breath, searching the alabaster surfaces for any trace of meat.
Just blood. The metallic tang was thick on the air.
Shit.
No food.
She’d have to report to Ayame.
All the while Ayame stared-down the emotionless mask, chest heaving from the brief run and the adrenaline that now ran through her body. Fear was a natural and entirely reasonable response—but the twins had the sort of teenage foolhardiness that led most teens to make less-risky choices. Smoke behind buildings, steal drinks from their parents’ liquor stashes—not stare down homicidal maniacs.
Ayame’s cheek had a pulse, and it hurt to open her jaw. But she cracked a toothy smile, flashing her syringe-like teeth. The woman had fallen for their ploy. And she’d lost sight of Suzume. She looked like a child that'd just been caught doing mischief by one of their parents.

She didn't want to kill... she didn't feel like killing! The thought of it didn't make a rush go through her, it didn't have her smile. The sight of this... thing's blood didn't make her shiver happily, it didn't make her heart race! She growled as slammed down on top of this weirdo, shoving her hand against her shoulder and her knee into her hip to pin... her? Yeah, her. Luzia really didn't feel like killing, but nevertheless, she held her hand up, about to strike, pink flowing around her hand and humming in a high-pitched tone.
...Just what kind of quirk was this freak anyway? Green skin, mushrooms on their head, and weird-ass fucking teeth... and that snarl... it wasn't even human! Sounded more like some sort of weird animal, like a cat crossed with something... else. She was grinning, too... she knew that sort of grin, that was the grin someone had when they snatched a bag of chips from the gas station, or just snuck a trick under someone's nose! Why the hell was she grinning, she was about to die! She was panting, she was heaving, with a gun to her head, practically, and she was grinning?!
"Hey!"
Luzia went wide-eyed, her blood freezing in her veins when a new voice suddenly yelled out, but she resisted the urge to whirl around to it. She knew that that wasn't a friendly voice, she knew that was a stranger's voice, she knew that a stranger's voice was very, very bad! She grit her teeth as the voice yelled about making too much noise and annoying people, and all she could do was snarl at the freak under her. She couldn't kill her now, which only meant she was gonna call the police as soon as she ran, and give a description and all of that bullshit. She was fucked. She couldn't kill her now, not with a witness, and leaving her alive meant that the cops would be on her ass.
"Damnit!" She hissed out from between her teeth, climbing off of the green-skinned girl, running away in a blitz of neon. She was going to have to lay low for awhile now! Probably a damned good while, too! Go back to the streets, find a source of food and water, probably find some hole to sleep in...
Damnit! She thought she was past this crap! But as she ran, she sighed. Maybe it was just her lot in life....
