For months she had worked in the hospital in every free given moment that she had, which after January stagnated and well it was also the moment that the research had halted a bit. They were stuck, no only Nimue but she was glad to see that doctor Mori couldn't make much of it either and that it was the effort of teamwork that brought them further. The experiment had seemed to reach a dead-end when she simply used it on skin before they finally decided to test it on a living person. It was an effort to make the rules and come up with the right spot, time and well victim. Nimue had not liked it but she had continued with the experiment, trying to convince herself that if something wrong would happen her healing would manage it. She wasn't even sure if that was possible but well that had not been necessary.
The fascination that all the doctors and Nimue had with this product, this M.A.R.I.N.E. had been very interesting, when they finally had found a living test subject it was easier to see that the liquid attached itself onto the DNA, which had been fascinating, "It's as if it's alive and thinks for itself." Because there had to be lots of tests but it seemed to find the quirk cells and hold on to that for its dear life that it had given Nimue shivers but she kept on her neutral expression. Everything she had done in the hospital was to get a step further on her own and get more respect from the other doctors. Only doctor Mori had complained but it would not have been a surprise to the young one if the others felt the same but just didn't dare speak up against the government's decision. She had not wanted to disappoint so she had worked hard, sometimes only taking breaks to hurry to the bathroom and the intensity had made her tired but she finally found a little bit.
The experiments did not stop with that, with the warm blood so to say, no when she continued she freaked out and might have made a mistake if the more experienced people had not done the same thing. The attachment of the chemicals to their test-object had this reaction that did not stop, it quickly spread in a pace that no other virus or something could keep up with and she had the dread in her eyes as she stared at the microscope and watched it go. It was like a supersonic speed version of whatever disease they had tried to fight through the ages and someone was bringing it back and not only that, it was only for the quirkers but it was the worst that it also worked at non-quirkers, they were vulnerable just as much, carriers maybe. There was too much to figure out and she was glad that she needed permission to leave the hospital for a bit to join the Sports Festival and do her work there. The development of the research that had taken months had only scared her off and she wasn't sure at that point if she had the stomach to continue. One of their test subject even died, the non-quirker, because the cells seemed to have attacked each other and though she had vouched for not testing it too much on a living human being, the others had said only that way they would have the answer and their test person had agreed with the potential dangers and so on, she wasn't sure if they had expected the pain that came with it and sometimes she still woke up hearing the screams.
They had to test more and though explained, they stopped most tests on non-quirkers, the impressive mutation of a chemical would bring forward changes in the quirkers, they did not instantly kill and cannabalize the other cells in the person's body. The mutation quirker only got more mutated in the theme of his mutation and she had not liked the tests any more than the others, but they had to be prepared, it had to be stopped. The construction of the M.A.R.I.N.E. in their advanced computer only made them understand so much, there was so much more hidden into the M.A.R.I.N.E. base and she hated how they had to test, she hated how they hurt them. With the other tests they managed to be faster but it seemed that it had the same effect to a degree on all the quirkers.
So they lost two people, so to say, the mutation quirker was not really human anymore and Nimue dreaded to see him every day. But with the other three, it went better. Every day they added little bits of the chemicals to study the way it worked, although she was sure that the volunteers hated them and hated that they had said yes, the payment would never be enough and every day the Government tried to help more. It took them so long before they realized how the vaccine worked but they found one and Nimue had literally cried from exhaustion and the horror that came with the whole experimenting. They had basically killed two people instantly and she wasn't even sure to say if their other victims were doing fine. The vaccine was heavily celebrated and maybe she finally had a sort of mended bond with Doctor Mori but she could not enjoy it. The mutation quirker was sort of in lock down and the others were in the ICU to make sure they would recover even with the vaccine now figured out. Was it too early to celebrate?
But she finally made a decision, as much as she liked this and as much as it felt good to find it, they needed other people. "I am more a hero than a doctor." She muttered to herself as she looked through the mirrored window. But if she would stay a hero, it was high time to work for it ad become better and no longer dread that the society, the villain society would come and haunt her. She had to tell him.
