"Sritchascritchascritchascritcha..."
Jetty's words vaguely matched her actions, as she curled her tongue up one side of her plump cheek and busily erased the answers she'd been filling out on her mock test sheet. Her eraser was wearing down to a nub. One might have seen this and thought this was a sign of great indecisiveness. Sensing that another study hall mate was watching her and perhaps having that very thought, she closed her eyes and put on a smarmy grin, raising one hand in an aloof shrug. "Eeeeh, I'm just trying out a new form of practicing my own space readiness questionnaire, but from the standpoint of different types of people who might take the test, because I'm just waaaaay too super good at it myself," she explained to the kid, who posited that he thought she was just really bad at math. "No, I'm actually super good at math," Jetty chortled, pressing one hand to her orange space-suit with a proud grin on her face.
She wasn't lying; that really was the purpose of her studying and she really was good at math. That said, it was not the reason she was at study hall. Jetty was supposed to be studying literature, culture, and other aspects of humanity that were typically her weakest subjects. "I just don't caaare about all this human stuff..." she thought to herself, eyeing the study materials she'd brought with her yellow eyes gradually falling in the gaping black socket they occupied. "I mean, humans are great... but they write some seriously boring stuff about their history some times... I'll bet alien culture is way more interesting!"
Before she knew it, she'd started spinning her pencil on her desk idly, dreaming about spaceships instead of studying anything at all. When she came to, her pencil was pointing towards the back of the study hall, where she saw a student she didn't recognize. She hadn't put in a lot of effort to meet anyone here, but she knew from one glance that this was a person she ought to have spotted and engaged immediately. He was tremendous! And with so much hair! He was even a little handsome too, not that Jetty was even aware she was appreciating that fact. Putting on a big smile, she grabbed up her homemade space readiness test... and then, more reluctantly, her other study materials... then moved over to take the seat next to him.
She watched in silence for a moment, then cleared her throat. "Ah-he-hem! Put on your thinking cap! Thwoooop!" she introduced herself. "It's time for Jetty's space readiness quiz! We'll start with an easy one: what is your name, intrepid future space explorer?" she questioned, holding up the paper so that he could see the blank line drawn across for his name. "If your sensei was filling this one out, she would write: Jetty Gemini!" It might sound like a fun distraction... or an unwanted distraction, depending on how intent upon his studies the boy was.
