APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY
Appearance:
An attractive and tall woman with a light complexion, Sophie Sequoia has blonde hair of mid-back length that tends to be somewhat messy, though more often than not she will wear it in a simple tail at the back of her head. Parting her hair from the left side of her head and leaving some or all of her right eye often hidden by her long bangs, the locks of this lady are a little on the wavy side and curl up at the tips, and long enough to reach the upper part of her back.
Large eyed, Miss Sequoia has purple irises that look like amethysts, and her overall facial structure is slender and refined. Sporting lips that are naturally rosy even without being coloured, this blonde bombshell has a noticeable pout that only seems to add to an overall sense of mature appeal, looking more like a woman than a girl and a little older than her age. Suffering from myopia, while she tends to habitually wear contact lenses, there are times when she is at home or feeling a casual vibe that Sophie tends to prefer the comfort and ease of a pair of spectacles. Fair in terms of her complexion, Sophie has Scandinavian ancestry which is reflected in her light skin and soft features, though certainly is not pale as she well appreciates the value of getting one’s vitamin D from the sun.
The style of clothing that Sophie prefers tending to be on the smart but feminine side of the spectrum, she likes blouses and sweaters, though often chooses things that are short or sleeveless so they are functional. Generally more of a fan of a dress or skirt, she tends to like to highlight her legs more than her bust with the way she dresses and prefers simple displays of elegant jewellery with a quality over quantity approach, enjoying pearls, diamonds and sapphires as her favourite gems. A fan of sweaters and turtlenecks, when relaxing at home she will often wear just this and some jeans or shorts as she lets her hair down and wears her glasses, perhaps never looking ‘geekier’ than when she is like this.

Personality:
A girl whose personality is for the most part as bright as her blonde hair, Sophie is a largely self-confident and outgoing girl who has learned to be free-thinking and non-judgemental, and sometimes quite geeky if given the chance. Carrying a weighty passion for science and those who are like her, for the most part she is an energetic and enthusiastic soul who believes in good, and is idealistic enough to have not become jaded by bad experiences in her life.
Practically seeming to become obsessed with whatever she is currently focused on, there are times when her zeal for understanding can leave her a little blind to other factors such as the feelings of other people and social conventions, with her sometimes needing to be reminded by others not to metaphorically drool over interesting quirks of peoples bodies like she’s looking at some exciting research opportunity. Usually considerate of the emotions of others but at times letting her passion get away with her, she can be left feeling embarrassed and awkward when reminded that she is looking at a person like they are just a piece of intellectual meat to her.
Something of an overachiever, Miss Sequoia loves to show off intellectually and sometimes physically in order to impress others, seeming to crave praise for her intellect and scientific acumen, among other things. A smart cookie certainly, sometimes she can act a little too much like a teacher’s pet and while she is rarely obnoxious in this aspect can be something of an overachiever as well, though has enough confidence and perception to justify her being somewhat ambitious. That being said she tends to value intelligence and demonstration of that very highly, tending to be attracted to people who show it in spades, and also craving the attention and approval of her peers in this regard.
A girl that was raised with a clear sense of right and wrong as well as integrity, Sophie tends to be an optimist and sometimes naively so, usually believing in the goodness inherent in people and having trouble accepting that people are wholly bad. However, her capable and rational mind can be pushed to the point of realization that there are times when people’s course of action must be stopped, and while she isn’t happy hurting people to do it the young woman isn’t a pacifist. Capable of seeing a greater sense of good and possessing a compulsion toward acting upon it, the girl is self-confident and brave enough to act on her sense of justice, and usually expects the same of those around her.
Highly responsible and hardworking, she tends to set high standards for herself and would be the type who would rebuke those who seem lax in their own sense of morality or diligence. Sometimes acting as if she is still an overachieving schoolgirl, because she has a very active mind and an almost ‘hyper’ mentality Miss Sequoia is quick to move onto new things and consequently can grow bored with things she has managed to conquer, making her demonstrate an almost flaky tendency toward taking on something, besting it and then moving on.
A girl who seems to have a strong need for validation, this desire to show herself off on her own terms seems to be sourced from the fact that her quirk has always helped her stand out from the crowd since a young age, but also the fact that she had a somewhat lonely childhood. Sophie’s father a busy and industrious man, in many ways she had to fight for his time, interest and affection and this has impacted her in a number of ways, in particular giving her a strong desire to impress the people around her, especially if they are figures of authority in her life. Male ones in particular.
The flirtatious aspects of her personality seeming to be a reflection of this, in her own way the cheeky charm that she might show is a response to a deep seated desire to influence those around her on her own terms, and though she might have gotten off to a slow start has learned quickly to make up for this fact. Liking to zing a cheeky little line or show off her good looks, Miss Sequoia has come to accept her own attractiveness and holds a certain sense of pride in her appearance, which is perhaps unusual for a soul who largely prioritizes her academic skill. Not so wholly consumed by this trait however that she might come off as terribly vain or arrogant and rather demonstrating a high degree of enthusiasm and an urge to prove herself, Sophie tends to be bubbly and outgoing and rather playful in relaxed company.
However, not quite as socially adept as one might assume given how forward she can be with people, despite her apparent confidence when dealing with others the girl is not as experienced in dealing with people of her own age as she might make herself seem, and is certainly more comfortable in company that is older and more mature than she is. Still seeming to show an almost childlike sense of excitability when dealing with people that she likes, sometimes Miss Sequoia can be a little naïve and overly trusting with people, and despite her high intellect can leave herself open to being duped.
Perhaps the biggest shortcoming of the girl coming from the fact that she struggles with romantic relationships, while Sophie is bubbly and engaging of people for one reason or another she is ‘bad’ with matters of affection and intimacy in regard to pair bonding, and seems to possess a natural denseness about this. Rarely seeming to seek simple things like hugs or demonstrate her fondness in a physical manner, she has an inherent sense of distance about her and a disinterest in forming committed relationships that stems from an inherent detachment from courtship.
Certainly not hostile or lacking for personal warmth because of this but certainly it feeling like there is something missing, the mind of Miss Sequoia is more concerned with puzzles and learning than it is with coupling, and despite her outgoing nature this can be an alarming fact for those who get close to her with the intent of developing something deeper than a friendship. Appreciating the need for biological release and yet wholly disinterested in seeking a relationship, the girl doesn’t even really realize she’s missing out on anything and seems to have a generalized blind spot in this area, as she seeks professional and intellectual fulfilment over romantic gratification.
This again seeming to tie into her industrious nature, sensitive souls might find their feelings getting hurt by Sophie’s tendency to quickly revert to her academic passions over those of a more personal nature, but it should be noted that this is more down to her highly intellectual nature than any sense of hostility or purposeful self-centeredness. Certainly the sort who would be regretful if this habit or any other that might cause offense or umbrage to those around them, the girl does value her friends very highly and will often go out of her way to help them as best she can, she just tends to be a little thoughtless on account of a mild developmental disorder that she seems to suffer from. Unfortunately doing herself few favours in this regard ordinarily, because this young woman seems to be friendly and largely affable it is easy to miss her personal shortcomings at a glance, and sometimes people can be caught off guard by them later along the road.
Ultimately a girl who has more complexity to her character than might initially be apparent, what one should remember is that despite her keen mind there are some areas that she can be rather dense in, and these usually pertain to affection and dependent relationships. Not a bad girl at her core and perhaps one of the good ones really, Miss Sequoia is feisty in her pursuit of justice and fairness and protective of people around her, but she’s not perfect by any stretch of the imagination and sometimes might need a little consideration and patience to really get the best out of a friendship from her. Those who spare her this, however, will probably find her a treasure to be around.

HISTORY
Not a native to Japan but rather a student who never ended up leaving, Sophie Olivia Sequoia has a Canadian nationality with Swedish ancestry on her mothers side, and was born and spent her formative years in the city of Vancouver, born to the Chief Research Officer of a Pharmaceutical company by the name of Stephen Sequoia and a nurse turned homemaker named Amber. Afforded a reasonably comfortable life for the most part, father’s position provided the family with a luxurious lifestyle that she enjoyed and found largely ‘normal’, though the influence of her more humbly born mother seemed to prevent her from becoming overly spoiled.
Seeming to be much happier doing her own thing and pursuing her own interests rather than making friends and interacting with others to any high degree, even as a toddler Miss Sequoia seemed to relish puzzles and building blocks over social interaction, which was worrying to her parents and others who fostered her early life. Lacking a little in the ability to perceive certain ‘social cues’, while she was far from shy or conventionally off-putting, the young blonde did tend to have a habit of saying things that others found awkward and only paying attention to people who engaged her interests and hobbies.
Somewhat habitually ‘standing out’, while she could make friends when engaged by others, she did not seem to seek this company and companionship out inherently and this could lead to her becoming a little isolated from her peers. Perhaps this the greatest influence on the fact he was a geeky child with thick glasses and messy hair, as she grew older Sophie to hang out with the nerds rather than cool kids and was on occasion teased and bullied by people who found her unusual interests, introverted nature and habit of saying things in a frank and sometimes blunt fashion to be strange and off putting.
Loving science for as long as she can remember, Sophie would look up simple stuff on the web as a young girl and her fascination led her to be great interest in the subject, which propelled her several grades ahead of her peers in terms of education in the field. Something of a teacher’s pet at times, who loved to show off how clever she was, all too quickly the girl was moved into more advanced classes and this helped her a great deal. Removed from the environment where people would scorn her for her lacking social skills and geeky interests and placed into somewhere where she could thrive, Miss Sequoia won science fairs and prizes, and developed as quite the little scientist. This in her own way an effort to get closer to her father, she liked to look up the latest medicines made by her dad and try to understand the science behind their mechanism, but this was something that took time for her to truly understand.
Sophie’s status as a quirker certainly seeming to help with her interest in science as well, while she possessed a fascination with experiments and puzzles, she began to show a strong interest in these strange powers almost as soon as her quirk seemed to manifest itself. Perhaps small incidents going unnoticed by most, like her managing to summon items she wanted from high shelves as a toddler, once the girl realized what she was doing in a more rational sense she would be a little flippant with her power use. Seeing her skill as something useful, even though laws and statutes were naturally put in place at times the girl would defy them, especially if it was for something she saw as right.
This never more the case than a day at school before she was even ten years old, she happened to be in library looking up stuff and heard a shriek, only to find the elderly librarian had been trapped underneath a weighty shelf stack when it had collapsed on top of her. Instinct taking over as the little girl ran over, she activated her quirk and lifted the object off the woman, which exhausted her and astounded the woman.
Hailed as a saint by the old lady for saving her single handed from something that most adults might have struggled to lift, little Miss Sequoia earned plenty of repute for her deed both from the staff and her fellow students, the latter of which compared her to the superheroes from comic books and seemed keen on befriending her because of this. Consequently seeming to develop something of an interest in these too as a result, Sophie enjoyed the popularity she gained and also the fact that any potential bullies would now be far more wary of taunting a girl with ‘super powers’ in future.
Deciding on a career in scientific research before she had entered middle school because of this, Sophie knuckled down on her studies and curbed one of two of her more adventurous tendencies in order to better focus on her career path. A brainy girl who quickly earned herself the seat at the top of her class as well as the interest of her teachers as she moved into her teen years, while she was starved a little bit socially by her keen interest in academia, for the most part the young Miss Sequoia was a happy girl. Not minding the fact that she was a little late getting her first kiss and other firsts in that regard because she had more a mind for science than romance, she moved from High School with big ambitions, and while a part of her wanted to go into biochemistry in order to join Daddy’s business ultimately she steered more toward biology and quirk study to pursue her passion in that area.
The influence of her father certainly helpful with her future career, due to the newness of quirk sciences Sophie decided to go to Yokohama to take up an internship with a world leading lab in the field while she continued her studies. The industrious Japanese people appearing to her to be one of the world leaders in acceptance and understanding of those with superhuman abilities, Miss Sequoia headed to this place on the other side of the pacific ocean and found her experience even more eye opening than she ever could have imagined.
Enjoying her work in the lab even if there was a bit of an initial language barrier, the bright Sophie impressed her peers and mentors with her understanding, acumen and work ethic. Seemingly tireless in her efforts toward gaining her qualifications and also dedicated in supporting her peers, Miss Sequoia felt less out of place in a realm that prized the qualities she had in abundance, and was even rather popular among the workers, no doubt helped by her good looks and bright and bubbly attitude in that area.
Perhaps this how her life would have remained if not for a chance involvement in an event that could have become rather tragic when she was twenty-two years old, partly in an effort to garner fresh volunteers for research at the lab she worked for Sophie began to attend gatherings for Quirkers, and unfortunately found one of the meetings being invaded by thugs with an anti-quirk message, looking to make an example of the people at the place. It unclear just what it was meant by this but certainly their intentions not looking all that pleasant, fortunately for the would-be victims it would seem that a Vigilante or two got news of this attack and invaded the place to take the criminals down.
Miss Sequoia herself personally getting involved in the action as a result, as a thug saw their fortunes fading thanks to the ferocity of the fighters he tried to take her hostage, and in the heat of the moment the girl used her quirk reflexively to overpower him and defend herself. Pushing the criminal away as he became distracted by the appearance of one of the vigilante’s, Sophie remembers the rush and almost instinctive feeling to protect herself and next thing she knew had flung him hard enough to knock him out. Thankfully her actions easy for the police to write off as self-defence, the girl left this experience rather shaken but fine for the most part, and after a little counselling recovered her confidence and then some.
Perhaps more affected by the incident than she ever realized however, while Sophie moved through issues of PTSD and such rather easily, that was not to say she left it the same woman. More aware than ever of what others could do and moreover what she could do, when she heard news of further vigilante actions there were times when Miss Sequoia would find herself becoming lost to a sense of whimsy that would make her wonder if she should get out there and do something herself, but she didn’t. Whatever respect she had for authority and the law enforcement services seeming to be enough to stop her going off ‘half cocked’ however, rather than throw herself into the role of a crime fighter, Sophie decided to focus on her studies and apply her skills to benefit heroes and society alike.
Going after her research with a stronger sense of zeal than ever, Sophie now hopes to develop a fuller understanding of quirks so that the world might see those with them in a more positive light, and more actively seeks to harness the gifts offered by quirks for the sake of the people as a whole. Sensing that these great and varied powers could benefit all of society if they are mastered and put to correct use, she seeks connections with those with interesting and unique powers to broaden her experience, and maybe help the world become a better place through her actions…
