It was the start of january... The cold air whisked the airport, stinging kirks face a little, making him scratch it. The snow clogged up the tires of his grandpas wheelchair, as the grumpy and somewhat energetic man tried to clean them with his stick. "Never gets easier, does it Kirk?" Kirks head sank a bit deeper into his coat, with a brief shiver. "Yeah! Not like I travel a lot, you know?" "Wish you did, to be honest. You need to come over and visit me sometime!" Kirk blinked a little, the frosty flakes gathered into his eyebrows just making the situation a bit more uncomfortable. Grandpa himself was covered in about 2 blankets, and his own coat and woolen cap. He really looked comfy... way comfier than the position Kirk had discovered him in before a rush to the hospital...
Yup, this day had come a little quicker than Kirk had expected. After finally getting his apology out there to Yumi during christmas (even if some of it was thanks to her herself), the only thing holding them back from getting him home, was the mandatory stay at the doctors. Just rolling out of the hospital had grandpa in a better mood than before. "Although, heroes duty dictates you to be able to jump into action at the worst of times! COLD AND EARLY!" He lifted his stick energetically, throwing the snow stuck on it around, and proceeding to point it at the person with them. "This darn schoolgirl you brought with us probably knows that better than anyone! HEHE!" "I mean uh...! I asked her opinion for this and...!" "I'm just kidding. Just shows you have friends in the right places already..."
Indeed... Apparently they wanted some official medical personnel to follow him around, and make sure the trip went off without hitch. Doohan hadn't been very excited about the idea, so Kirk had decided to make a little bit of a compromise between them. He did have a friend over on that side: Elise. It had been a quick call, and assurances of 'Elise is uh, A BRO! Not a doctor!' to his grandpa and the opposite to the doctors. with what his grandpa had said, Kirk just felt like getting him out of here as fast as possible was important. Back home... So that Kirk himself could just be without needing to worry about him...
"Seriously, though! Thanks for accepting the call, bro. Allowed me to get out of that big jam, without raising his blood pressure too high, You know?" Admittedly, Kirk had been overall way quieter than usual. This time not because of all the awkwardness that had happened last semester, that stuff he had already gotten himself to accept as 'it has happened, I can move on'. But all these new thoughts were coming to his head. The guy who had been keeping watch over him and always been home was leaving, and Kirk just didn't really know how to cope. Technically there was a good reason why he was leaving, that was not the issue. But there was just this feeling in his gut. A mix of doubt and confusion still.
Luckily his grandpa, despite being ill in such a way, was a very good distraction from thinking about it. "Since that Darren bloke seems the sort that would protect his 'bro' till the end, Do you have a similar sort of thing? Has my grandson here done anything awkward without telling me?" The man was grinning from ear to ear, making the wrinkles on his face almost straighten. He was clearly messing with the lad. "ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!" "That just makes me more curious!" Kirk however in this state, was an easy target for any sort of jab. And it certainly warmed both of them up, as Doohan just chuckled, and kirks blood was going to his cheeks from awkwardness. Opening the door to the airport, had probably never been as fun. Although, loud people like them, made the semi empty airport echo, making Kirk even brighter.

It was a bit unexpected, the sudden call from Kirk and the request that accompanied it. While she knew that Kirk's grandfather had been dealing with complications to his health, it appeared the decision had been made for him to return to his homeland to receive further medical attention there. It was an understandable decision after all most people prefered to get treatment at home rather than somewhere far away. Of course, there had been some concerns about the journey, so Kirk's request for her to join him on taking his grandfather to the airport was one she had gladly accepted. She had made a bit of extra effort, consulting the man's medical file to ensure there would be no complications during the journey. So far things seemed favorable, the man's condition was stable and he was healthy enough to make the journey, but due to the fact that when it came to medical matters she was not the type to make unneeded risks, the Germanic lass had decided to request a nurse to accompany him on the plane.
She was quietly walking beside the rather loud duo, a smile on her lips that was without a doubt brought forth from the events of the night prior since Tetsuko had been staying over. Still, when the man pointed his stick at her and called her a 'darn schoolgirl' the Eisenberg lass couldn't help but snicker softly at the statement. It had been quite a while since she had been called that, especially now that she was working as a member of the Public Safety Commission. When Kirk thanked her for accepting the call Elise shook her head lightly in return. "Don't worry about it Kirk~ I'm certain you would have done the same for me. It's a pity Tetsu couldn't join us, but she had some paperwork for the committee to do."
Raising a hand to her cheek she gazed at Kirk's grandfather and mused softly. "Your grandfather's condition is stable, so the journey should be able to happen without any complications, but for safety measures, there will be a nurse onboard."
Still, the sudden question from the elderly man and Kirk's reaction earned a soft giggle from Elise. "I wouldn't be too sure about that Kirk~ You taught me some very 'interesting' things~" The Germanic lass mused softly, knowing it would earn a reaction out of the pair which she followed up with a warm smile. "I think it is because of what Kirk calls the 'Bro Code', real friends stick with each other through the good times and the bad times, all the way till the end of time~"
Still, she couldn't help but smile at the energetic behavior of the elderly man, it reminded her of how energetic her own grandparents are, and it was those type of people she tended to get along with quite well. Still, it did make for an amusing scene at the airport as some of the passengers at the airport looked in amusement at the arrival of the group.

"I mean yeah, Obviously." If she ever needed somebody to help her move, he was pretty much the perfect guy to carry sofas and things. But Kirk couldn't help but nod in slight agreement. "What can I say, being in the leading position always takes time off your day." Especially if you had been in a slump... He still needed to fix some things in sports club after all. But Family came first. "We talking about TetsuKO, or is this some new friend of yours?" Kirk blinked. "KO! You know, the samurai girl from the sports festival!" Come to think of it, Darren and now Elise were some of the rare few, who had seen Kirks grandpa in person... "Darn japanese names. All these extra little parts to add onto them." Kirk awkwardly shrugged in Elises direction.
Elises next sentence had Doohan about equally as grumpy. "Sigh, I do remember you saying, that your bro would be handling this whole procedure." Kirk awkwardly scratched the back of his head. "Yeeeeah, she has a bit too busy schedule for that. That and you didn't want me to skip school... Buuut!" "But what?" "We did ask her to be atleast somewhat unnoticeable! No awkward questions, but she will be up whenever you give a shout about pains or anything!" Doohan nodded his head downwards. "Shucks, you are handling me like your mom and dad handled you when you were leaving!" The only weapon on his body that was still somewhat useable, was his good old sharp and dry wit. Kirk could just hear all the giggling around them about it. "Okay, gramps! I get it! No need to bully me so much!" Doohan chuckled, and overall, despite this light scorching, everything was fine. After all, it just showed Kirk was ready to make this sort of hard arrangements.
However, the grandpas question being actually answered caught him a little bit by surprise. The emphasis on interesting, made him give off a bit of an awkward glare yet again to put Kirk on the spot. However, immediately when the words brocode got out of her lips, Doohan scratched his head, giving Kirk a moment to sigh of relief. "Yeah. Interesting thing about it, that's his coaches style. Called the whole school team those things back in America." He rubbed his chin as Kirk nodded. "A really swell guy, and knew how to whip people to trust in teamwork. Kirk here was a sponge for that sort of stuff." "I think it's made me into a better person atleast! Both in body and mind!" He flexed his arm, the bicep bulging like a pumped up balloon.
But surprisingly, Doohan didn't throw a quip this time... heck, he even went a little bit quiet, as if lost in thought. Kind of similar to Kirk perhaps. Whenever something really got either of them thinking, it basically stopped anything else going. Although when Kirk had those ideas, he said them outloud. "So uh... Port number... 2! Got like 15 minutes early here too!" In that regard it couldn't have been better. It gave them time to cooldown a little after the trip, and overall, just hang around. Once they reached the benches, Kirk sat down leaning backwards. "Whew!" He kicked his leg up onto his knee, and just rested for a bit. All these little jabs had been wearing him out. It was time for him to start asking questions. "What have you been up to anyway Elise? its been a bit of a while since that time, when I got to see your grandparents after all. Could consider that debt paid in some regards!"
His ears were almost ready for a quip, but his Grandpa was still quiet... Somehow he had expected some sort of critique to be given about 'japanese family values' or something. But hey, atleast it left Kirk with time to actually unwind from his own messy head of thoughts with something that didn't relate to it at all...

Elise nodded her head with a smile, knowing all too well that Kirk was the type of guy who would jump at the chance to help a friend in need. However, when he mentioned that being in a leading position took time off his day she couldn't help but feel a bit guilty for the teenager. She couldn't help but wonder if she would had been able to make his burden lighter if she had stayed at the academy, but then again there was no use crying over spilled milk. She had chosen her own path, her own road to walk and it was in the end the best for everyone, she was confident that Kirk understood that. When Kirk's grandpa started inquiring about Tetsuko Elise chimed in with a bright smile. "mhmm~ Tetsuko Shindou, she is my lover and childhood friend, but I tend to call her Tetsu~ Although I totally understand the confusion with Japanese names, it's likely the German side of me protesting in confusion~"
She smiled apologetically at Kirk's grandfather who seemed quite grumpy at the prospect of a nurse being around to tag along with him. "Don't worry Doohan, while I might call her a nurse, you won't be seeing a pretty lady in a nurse outfit tending your needs~ She is going to be traveling along wearing regular clothing and will only step in if you call for her or seem to be in problems. Although we understand your desire to be independent, and your medical health is stable, we got to make sure you get back safely so you can watch your Grandson become a great hero~" Trying to encourage the old man, the moment that followed as Doohan exchanged words with Kirk made her chuckle briefly, at least things still seemed to be going well.
Of course, the teaser in Elise couldn't help but find amusement in the reaction of the elderly man who glared at Kirk, ready to put his grandson on the spot, but as she clarified further she smiled gently. "Trust is important in a team, and so is a leader who can unite them, that's why I think the Sports Club is in such a fine state with Kirk leading them." It was not just a compliment, it was a genuine truth that came from the girl's lips.
Soon the three of them arrived at port 2, and for a moment Elise's eyes wandered among the people already there, and a light nod was made by the girl, who actually signaled she had spotted the nurse who was traveling along with the flight. The sudden question made Elise look back at Kirk and smile briefly at him. "Aside from my apprenticeship at the Public Safety Commission I been preparing a new song~ Keep it a secret for now but seems they want me to perform at the National Stadium and a very special guest will be joining me~" She grinned briefly at him and when hearing about her grandparents nodded her head lightly. "They been doing well~ I heard last time they went to North Pole, something about searching for polar bears?"

"German, huh?" Yeah, american in Doohan had a bit of an opinion about those. But, in this case, She was Kirks pal. Naturally that meant that his concentration went way more into the lovers side of things. "Progressive friends you've got here." There he went with his quips again, Kirk nodding, until realizing how awkward that must have sounded. Luckily, he didn't dig into the situation more than that. Situation with the nurse was also filled with just regular old nodding. "She better be. She better know her job description well too." However, once she pointed out, that she would be making sure he could see his grandson becoming a great hero, He became sort of distant... just poking his hat. "I suppose, if it's necessary for that to be true." Kirk glanced towards Doohan. Something was wrong...
However, with them now waiting, the duo had a little bit of time talking, whilst his grandpa... spaced out? Kirk guessed that was the case. He had done that a lot more lately, but atleast to his knowledge, it wasn't anything dangerous. Doohan had always called them 'old mans memories'. So, for now Kirk rested easy. Besides, Kirk, hearing that Elise had a new song coming along, had his excitement aimed at that. "Oh! Like at the bar?! I assume the 'companion' is...!" Tetsuko. Kirk paused. Yeah, that was one of those sad times when he had seen the relationship between Elise and Tetsuko at full effect. His head started digging for something else... "Oh yeah! Indoor voice..." She was after all pretty popular supposedly. "I uh, assume you are working with some 'hero name' or, artist name? So I don't worry about saying your name aloud right, hehe?" This was a bit more relaxing one to remember. She had been on tv. Apparently a big ol artist... Weird to imagine that his friend was atleast a bit of a big deal. "Can't wait for myself to be careful about that sort of thing! Although, I bet more people would be sporty with me if that was the case!"
In the case of polar bears, Kirk shrugged. "I guess it makes sense. weird adventuring folk and what not." He pinched his jaw. "Though I dunno what they are in nature really..." The discussion was starting to turn into just casual mumblings. Nothing really stood out as fancy or interesting.
But suddenly Kirks grandpa roused up. Almost like he had only now heard something. "Speaking of trust!" Kirk flinched. "W-what? What?!" Doohan proceeded to snap his fingers. "I just remembered, that you promised me at the hospital to tell me what the heck your 'situation' was about!" Kirks eyes widened a little, as he seemingly got a little bit more compact in his seat. "U-Uh, I mean uh... I thought that I could just uh...! Tell you about it when you are getting on the plane! You know, give you something to think about during the trip, yeah!" Doohan grinned, and poked Kirk in the stomach with a cold finger. "No, no, no, 'You know'." Doohan grinned. "After all, I wouldn't be able to ask any question on the situation myself, if I was flying away! And I wanna know every detail always. Especially when it comes to my boy being too depressed to let their old man home before fixing it!" He poked the boy again.
Kirk was really pinned down. Fricking, why now?! He had genuinely planned on telling it to him over the phone some time! Not in front of the girl who was probably the worst one to hear it! Oh dagnabbit, no, he was not blaming his bro for his own stupidity! "I mean, I could just uh... Call you after you get...!" "You spit it out now, boy! You handled it pretty swift once you got your ass off your seat back at the hospital!"
Kirk groaned... "OKAY!" He turned towards Elise. "You'll hear something about it too!" He was almost chewing his own tongue and teeth at this point. How would he word this so it didn't sound so bad? Every way to word it sounded awkward! Maybe some way, that only grandpa would understand... If only Darren was here... OH wait, if Darren was here it would probably be worse, never mind! "So... Last... September...! I was feeling kind of... Under the weather, for reasons..." "mhm?" "So... I uh... I proceeded to... ask... a girl..." Doohans back straightened in curiousity and expectations, as Kirk himself was getting more hunchbacked in hiding and worrying. Okay, how to word this...
"To 'dip the biscuit' with me..." "Eh? Speak up boy!" "TO DIP THE... Biscuit with me!"
It was almost like Doohan dropped a long act of being a tired old man, as he exploded in to the most Raunchy sounding laughter of his life. He leaned into his seat so hard he almost tipped over! "THAT'S MY BOY! TRULY that's my boy! GAHAHAHAA!" He was slapping his stomach! This had been worth the wait! Meanwhile, Kirk was now the guy who had turned into 'Old mans memories' for a moment... He just turned towards Elise again... and said: "So, that's sort of it, you know, I guess..."

Elise nodded her head sheepishly in return to Doohan's comment. "My grandmother is Japanese on my father's side, grandfather is German and my parents are both German~ No idea what that makes me, I guess German with some Japanese flavoring?" She laughed heartily, yet hearing Doohan quip into calling her and Tetsu "Progressive friends" earned a light blush from the young lady, who couldn't help but grin sheepishly. Still, she couldn't help but wonder if something was off when Doohan went quiet after her encouraging words.
Elise nodded her head lightly at the mentioning of the bar. "Haha~ no Tetsu won't be singing, she would be too embarrassed for such a thing, my mentor of sorts when it comes to music is going to be singing the lyrics of a new song I wrote." The explanation made her smile briefly as Kirk soon inquired about the whole artist name. "Mhmm~ I stuck with the name 'Tetsu no Shugotenshi', seems ever since the Fourth Corner's event people came to call me that~" Elise explained with an awkward smile, scratching the back of her head as she tried to figure out how to continue the conversation.
When Doohan mentioned something about a situation, Elise tilted her head slightly to the side in confusion. "Something happened to you Kirk? Please don't tell me someone was dumb enough to try to bully you, I'd whack them straight into the air with a Shoryuken if they did!"
Yeah right, as if anyone was dumb enough to try to bully Kirk... Elise tilted her head slightly to the side as Kirk started to explain what had been bothering him... "Dipping biscuits?" Not really aware of the slang's nature, Elise seemed entirely bewildered by the situation. "Umm..." Pondering a bit more the girl lowered a hand inside her pocket and withdrew what appeared a small bag of crackers. "I don't have any biscuits, but if you want we can crack some crackers together? But in return you have to explain what Dipping the biscuit is, and why it seems to be so funny~"
Poor Kirk, it seemed like this situation was still far from over!

Elises worries that Kirk of all people was bullied, made Kirk just buckle in a little bit harder! "NO, no! More like, I guess somebody with that image think uh... You know, that I was bullying them!" Did he seriously just admit that he had been bullying someone?! He slapped his forehead briefly. "Look, the point is, whatever it is is taken care of now. Nothing to worry about in that regard!" Yes Kirk, there was nothing to worry about this situation! Nothing at all, it was literally only you who thought there was a problem in this whole thing... Just telling that he had done something like this was awkward enough, he didn't need to make the pit deeper!
...He definitely didn't need to do that, when Elise was providing this sort of ammunition! "N-NOOOO! We ain't dipping biscuits! I mean, I guess, if you have biscuits, but uh... GAH!" Kirks grandpa was shaking so much in his seat, that you could have thought his legs had started working again! He just couldn't stop himself, with his laughter eventually turning into an outright loud coughing fit! "G-g-gramps! You alright!?" "HEEE, HEE, GIVE A...! GIVE A BIT OF A PAHAHAHAHAHACKH!" Kirk proceeded to outright slap his grandpas back a couple of times, before he almost coughed his teeth out! "Whew! Well that's a good one hehehe..." Afterwards, he took a bit of a breather to recover, as Kirk proceeded to try and explain it to "Uugh, anyways! That's it! that's what happened! Angered a pal trying to do it and that's what it is. Really embarrassing and frustrating..."
"It's kind of a man thing, you see!" However, Doohan still wasn't done! Kirk turned around stunned, as he looked towards his grandpa. "...No?" "Basicly, it is one of the most basic rituals for a person to become a true man! An adult if you will!" Kirks face got redder and redder. No, no no nO NO NO NO! He wasn't gonna tell her right?! "Of course, it's a very responsible task. You can't do it with just anyone. And you gotta have some tact, and technique!" "O-o-okay, gramps, that's uh...!" Doohan just ignored his grandsons desperate cries, as he lifted his index finger teachingly. "Because as we all know...!"
"None of you kids drinks bloody tea anymore!" Kirk slumped in his seat, as his muscles relaxed a little bit too much... Had his grandpa proceeded to also misunderstand, what he had said?! "Can't even hang around any nice place if you don't know how to dip a biscuit into a cup." However, Doohan did lean in to look at Kirk more closely. There was a hint of seriousness in his eyes and his tone was more regular as well. "I suppose the bigger question though, is if you actually did it. Did you get to dip the biscuit?" Kirks eyes wandered away from his grandpa for a second... before he sighed through his nose. "...Nah. I didn't. Messed up already in the first steps..." Doohan proceeded to lift his hand, and ruffled Kirks head. A little wink was also given. "Yeah, you ain't exactly a tea drinking brit, are ya?" He pulled his hand back, and proceeded to punch Kirk gently on the shoulder. "You've always been more of a milk drinker in my eyes. You don't need anything of the sort to keep yourself awake. You do that on your own, hehe..."
Kirk blinked a couple of times. Had he just tried to move the conversation along so he didn't need to explain it properly? Well, that was typical grandpa. Always helping in either absolutely bombastic or most stealthiest of ways. Kirk sighed. Man, he himself was so close to spilling the beans himself... He still had no proper self control on his emotions... And now with grandpa leaving, who was gonna keep him atleast somewhat in control?
"I suppose your friend here is a little bit more experienced in the way of tea and biscuits, when she was so ready to offer them already hehehe..." Kirks hair raised with a flinch, before he just pinched the bridge of his nose. At this point it seemed like his grandpa was just hunting for more laughs from a girl who didn't know any better. "I myself am more of a coffee type. Especially lately. You know, getting tired with old age and what not. Hoping it doesn't fuck around with my heart." It was only a little while longer before the plane would be here... "Feeling quite peckish to be honest. Tongues all dried up from that laughing fit."

At first Elise couldn't help but find herself hopelessly confused at the situation. Perhaps it was her foreigner origins, of a Germanic girl who grew up in Japan and most of her contact had been limited to her family and Tetsuko that the existence of such a slang entirely escaped her. Although it seemed Elise unknowingly was adding more fuel to the fire. "Nonsense~ I know you well enough that you aren't the type to bully someone. In fact, if you're willing to dip biscuits with them you must be quite friendly with the person?" Of course Elise was totally assuming the meaning had been literal.
Of course, Elise's confusion was made even more complete when she offered to 'Crack some Crackers' with Kirk, which led to Kirk's grandfather to burst out in a laughing fit and Kirk to admit that he had angered one of his pals in the process by doing so.
Fortunately for Kirk, the words spoken by the elderly man finally made the figurative lightbulb in Elise's head lit up. "Ah..." A ritual to become a man, something you can't do with just anyone and need to use tact and technique in order to carry it out. "I do like iced tea during summer, and a nice cup of tea during the winter helps immensely to ensure I sleep well~" Although when Doohan inquired about whether he had already dipped the biscuit, Elise's gaze shifted to Kirk and she seemed very, very attentive. "Couldn't kick the ball into the goal hmm?" Elise smiled weakly, almost sympathetical at Kirk, as if she tried to console him in her own way. "Don't worry Kirk~ life isn't just a single penalty shoot, you'll get more chances down the line." yet Doohan's comment about tea and biscuits, now that Elise understood the meaning of the saying earned a sheepish smile from her, and a very strong blush as she recalled a certain memory. "I... wouldn't call myself that experienced, I'm very selective in the tea I dip my biscuits in~"
Of course, when Doohan commented being peckish, Elise happily extended the bag of crackers to him. "There you go~ Something for on the plane~" Elise chimed softly, knowing well enough that it was almost time for Doohan to get on the plane. Of course, for now, she allowed Kirk to lead the conversation again, till one of the flight personnel spotted Kirk's grandfather and reminded the duo the flight would depart soon.
Watching the elderly man getting ready to board the flight Elise couldn't help but muse softly. "Your grandfather is quite an interesting person, isn't he Kirk?" She smiled gently at Kirk upon his return from saying his farewells to Doohan, upon which she gently spun around on the ball of her heels, taking a few steps as she gazed upwards and asked him a question the teenager might had dreaded to come to pass. "Say Kirk~" She paused for a bit and then continued. "Do you... love Tetsu?"

"...I suppose..." Admittedly, Elises words weren't exactly that relaxing. At this point it was just embarrassing. He pressed his fingers together... Elise had to already know, she wouldn't have worded it like that othervise. He definitely felt just a teeny bit bullied right now. Meanwhile, Doohan took bag of biscuits with a brief lifting of his eyebrow, and a chuckle to follow. "Meant more that I am peckish for coffee... parched?Darn japanese... Happy to never need to speak that again!" He tiredly shrugged. "The snack is appreciated though. Plane food is absolutely horrid."
Speaking off, the announcement rang out... "Plane to new york has landed. Please proceed to the transport area. The plane will lift-off in 30 minutes..." "That's our call Kirk." "Yeah... Let's go." Doohan gave one last look in Elises general direction. "Thank you for being friends with my grandson... Of course, he has a lot of those from what I've heard, but at my age, every grain of sugar counts, if you know what I mean, hehe!" "Okay, that's enough, let's go!" With that, Kirk started pushing Doohans wheelchair forward, as it squeaked and slipped around... Kirks pace was determined, and relatively quick...
The transport area was still a little bit empty. Clearly people weren't exactly in a rush to get on the plane yet. That and the place hadn't been that full anyway. Kirk on the other hand, was going forward quite quickly, like he was in a rush. "Slow down a little bit boy! At your pushiness, you would probably push the plane back to America!" "S-sorry!" Kirks legs stopped immediately, as Doohan outright notched forward. "Almost feels like you want me to leave as fast as possible, you know?" Kirk shook his head in answer. "No! No. That's not the case." Doohan sighed. The boy was hiding something again it seemed. "I mean, I can go the rest of the way myself. With that darn doctor spy around I won't get hurt..." "I already said I don't want that! Just, ugh...!" Doohan tapped his fingers against his knees... "Is this about all the biscuit talk? I think the girl didn't mind that much, when she was all chuckling and what not about it." Kirk squatted, placed his hands over his head and just let out a loud "HRRRRRRRRMMM...!" Doohan just let him do it for a little bit... maybe he just needed to get it into words.
"Look, taking how many times I've been rude with you, I think you can be rude with me once in a while." The sentence let kirk stand up again, as he turned to look at his grandpa. "Look, I tried to just, you know, make it quick! Like removing a plaster!" Doohan smirked and let out a giggle. "Sending your grandpa off is like removing a plaster, huh? I am honored!" "UGH! NO!" Thank god there weren't a lot of people, or Kirk would have been making a scene. "Can you stop poking me for a moment again? like at the hospital?!" "Of course. So what do you want to say?" Kirk huffed and puffed... His grandpa had always been a joker, but right now it just felt like he was making the situation worse and worse!
"Look, I am SCARED! I thought I could just push you there, and I would just be thrust upon it! Wouldn't even need to think about it, but now, YOU forced me to stop!" Kirk groaned and shuffled his hair about. "So you want me to leave?" "Ssssh!" Doohan shut his mouth. It was pretty clear Kirk was once again in the mood, where he didn't want to be interrupted. However, he did keep looking at him. "That's the thing! This whole freaking autumn was horrible to me! I just, kept making stupid mistakes... and I've been thinking, if I don't have you around... Will I just keep making those stupid mistakes!? And keep losing my friends for a year at a time?! I don't want that to keep happening but I fear it will KEEP happening...!" Doohan sighed, looking at his grandson, who was seemingly having a nervous breakdown in front of him. He pinched his eyes, trying to hold back laughter. The boy didn't want to be laughed at right now.
"And what does that have to do with me leaving? it's not like you ask my opinion in this sort of thing." Kirk flinched and looked at him. "I mean, You are smarter than me! I could ask you next time, or, something!" "Look boy, you spend more time at the school than at home with me lately. What would it matter if I left?" "Well... Ach! I would miss you! And when the next time like this comes, I would be ALONE! Just... Feeling guilty... without any bros."
At this point Doohan rolled his wheelchair closer to his grandson. "Kirk... Look me in the eyes." "B-But I told y-" "LOOK! ME! in the eyes..." That simple commanding tone that he had used on him since he was a kid struck, as Kirk squatted a little and looked at his eyes... which somehow felt sad... apologetic even. Doohans hand reached out for Kirks hair, and gently brushed through it. "I know why you are like this... I know you care about not making mistakes to insane levels, and keep trying to fix them... or outright just hide from people who dislike you for them... After all, it was my behaviour that made you like that." Years of telling a little boy, that they are a filthy mutant... Useless spawn of a useless son... calling anybody just one of them would make them wary. Kirk looked away. "I mean..." "Sssh..." The boy was probably gonna say something like 'I deserved it'...
"But that part of you that wants to fix it, that's why you are here, you know. Your grandma told me how you started doing way better at sports at school. Kept trying to appease me I bet." Kirk was silent, and just kept staring, like a scared and sad animal, trying to take all this info in. "And yet I kept giving you the cold shoulder... And you kept trying, and kept getting pushed back... Always thought you were hard headed..." Kirk had to close his eyes for a second. This was just hitting too hard... He had seen all of this? "But, that is not all you are... You are really responsible. You never quit working out! You are just getting bigger and bigger because of it! Just cause you got some light praise from me!"
"But most importantly... When your grandma died..." They both swallowed... like trying to sink something in themselves... "That day... I attacked you at full force. Shouted at you, Probably made you feel the most miserable you had ever felt in your life..."
The image was clear in Kirks head... in the kitchen of his grandparents home... right after his grandpa had heard the news... "You must have exhausted her! You and your lazy parents didn't even want to take care of you! They just dumped you on to our shoulders! She cooked for you, She did your laundry, and all this time you've just been living large here, doing nothing good! You useless mutant bastard! And now because of you MY WIFE IS DEAD!" "THAT'S NOT TRUE!"
"That tackle of yours opened my eyes..." Tears were rolling down Kirks eyes. The reason his grandpa was in the wheelchair was cause he had defended himself. It was one of his most regretted secrets in life... His grandpa had convinced him to not even tell his own parents what had happened... "You took initiative to defend yourself when wrongly accused. And you regret things whenever you are rightly accused. Just looking at you, cowering, crying and apologizing continuously, as I layed there on the ground, showed me how much you actually cared. How much you didn't want to do it, but were forced to..." Doohan lifted his hand off of his head. "Who knows what would have happened if you would have just taken it... would I have beaten you worse for wear? Would I have thrown you to the streets? Who knows..."
He lifted his finger and pointed at him. "In that regard, I would say that the only thing you would need to do, is stop covering in fear. You don't need to feel afraid for what you do." "But...!" Kirk sucked his lip. "No buts. You just said that you have a bad tendency to say what you think, and then regret it afterwards. And that you want to stop doing that." Kirk weakly nodded. "But, think of all the things you've got thanks to the fact, that you are so bold to rush in to defend yourself, give opinions, and other things..."
"You made an old racist man gain respect for you, you got yourself to the top of your schools sports teams, you got yourself to a super hero school, you made bunch of friends, you've learned how to use your quirk proper, you've Made it to the semi-finals of sports festival through sheer guts alone... And most importantly..." He lifted his finger again. "You wronged and insulted this person, who I assume was a bro of yours... and yet you had the guts and pride to go face them yourself. You didn't send them a text message, you didn't make somebody else do it for you... YOU YOURSELF went there to apologize for what you have done. I do not know how that went, but since you called me afterwards, only thing I know, is that it fixed the problem you had..." "...You needed to convince me to do it though." "Heh, sometimes all horses need a slap on the buttocks to get them moving. Besides, you found it important enough, that you didn't want me to leave your side. That shows something."
Kirk at this point looked all sorts of weird and confused, as he snorted, holding in his crying again... "I will give you one tip though, since you want one so much..." Doohan grabbed Kirks hands... His hands were cold to the touch, yet familiar and gentle. "Promise me, that you do not hold back telling people what you think. If you disagree with something, tell them. If you agree with them, tell them. And if they as your friends take it badly... Apologize, and if they don't want to be your friends, move on. You can agree to disagree. And you are strong enough to always think how you yourself think. So... in essence..." Kirk was a very simple boy, so he had to make it as clear to him as possible.
"Don't be ashamed in thinking outloud, I suppose. Be proud that you have the guts to do that. That's an order!"
Kirk, having calmed down a little bit, proceeded to place his hand against his forehead... "YES SIR!" "Rest easy, hehe." "The plane for New york is leaving in 10 minutes. Please board the plane." "Well, looks like it's time for me to go..." "UH, Wait!" Doohan didn't exactly have time to turn around, so Kirk had pretty much shouted in his face. "...What? You want to make me even more deaf?" "Nah, I just uh... Wanted one more thing! Before you leave, I mean!" "Hopefully it's not something worth mulling about." "...Can I get a hug? Brohug, of course?" Doohan laughed again. "You sentimental idiot, come here..." Kirks humongous body wrapped its arms around his grandpas skinny one. It lasted a little while, as Grandpa patted Kirk in the back. "Just so you know... When I reach home, the first thing that I am gonna do is go and tell Margaret..." Kirks eyes opened. "That you turned into exactly the sort of person she wanted you to become when you grow up... She kept telling me this, and I didn't believe her..." Doohans eyes were filled with tears... He could see his wife clearly in his minds eye... but he didn't cry. His tearducts had been blocked up for ages due to his grumpy demeanor. "Become a great hero for her, would ya?" "I promise!"
Kirks grandpa almost missed the plane, with how long it took them to say their goodbyes. However, Elise could see him being pushed towards it by the nurse they had gotten to watch over him. Kirk himself soon walked over to her with his hands in his pockets. His usual energy and bounce was for the moment gone. But there was a minor smile on his face. "Heck yeah he is! Always a comedian. Always told me that he was sort of a 'bad cop' during his time in the force." He leaned against the window Elise was looking through. "Should have seen the glare he gave me when the nurse told me I shouldn't go past the gates though..." Kirk felt a little awkward about it. Some things just don't go how you've set them up to go.
However, Elise immediately proceeded to ask a question, that felt like he had let slip away from his mind. A question, that he would have never wanted to talk to Elise about before. 'the topic that would break his friendship with the duo'. For a moment, he froze... but his Grandpas advice from just moments ago came to mind, as he proceeded to sigh... whatever. Let's try it out. "Yeah. I mean, it's pretty obvious right?" Like a rock had fallen from his shoulders once again... "Why do you think I got so mad, when you guys hadn't told me, that her mother is in that state? Just felt like one of those things that I should've known." Of course, it didn't excuse him shouting at Elise back then. But, as grandpa had said, the only way to go about it was apologizing.
"When I talked with Tetsuko about it though... I just felt like I was forcing so many things on her, you know? Like, whatever I said, I felt like I was insulting her." He leaned backwards a little bit more. The situation that had started it all. This whole big mess that he had just dug himself out of. "Like... just missed some obvious queues. Something that I should get immediately..." He had lived with a crippled grandma for a while. Self caused situation too... and yet, he tried to convince her, that there was no shame in having a crippled grand parent. Kirk sighed a little. "She did make me a 'right hand bro' so to speak, but... I guess it just didn't feel like what I wanted..." He felt kind of stupid, but he was getting it out, and feeling way better for it.
"What is her situation by the way? Anything I should know about? Been kind of out of it for the whole of last school year, hehe." Now that his grandpa was out of the picture, there was no awkwardness on that front atleast.

Elise chuckled softly at Kirk's description of his grandfather. She could see that despite the hardships the two had experienced, they genuinely cared for one another, and perhaps it was for that reason she understood why he lacked that usual cheer behind his response. "Last I checked you didn't get an airplane ticket yourself, so it's natural they stopped you." She spoke briefly in jest till they arrived at that subject. For Elise it briefly felt like the world had come to a halt, to have Kirk admit the thing Elise had once dreaded, feared even was brought to the front. In a way, perhaps it was needed for them to have this conversation. For when Tetsuko had given him the title of 'right-hand bro', it was evident that the trust and friendship between the three of them was mutual, and yet it was different from the bond between herself and Tetsu.
Elise's gaze which was lifted upwards slowly lowered as she turned around to face Kirk and smiled gently at him. "I see." She paused for a bit, her gaze shifting to a nearby aisle which was unoccupied, and walking over to it she gestured lightly at it. "Thank you for being honest with me Kirk, and in a way I'm sorry you had to experience something like that." She leaned back lightly on the seat she had taken and closed her eyes. "I, I'm not sure what words to use, because it's difficult to express. I get that there are people who might say that love isn't restrained by a number, but... to me my bond with Tetsu is special, it goes beyond the concept of lovers. But then again, you only know that we are childhood friends, don't you?"
She turned to Kirk and shook her head lightly. "And yet that doesn't begin to describe it. My family moved to Japan while I was still eight years old, of course it was a change, a new country where I knew nobody at all and a land of foreign language and traditions. I... used to struggle a lot, you see my hometown was quite old-fashioned and Quirkers like me and my brother didn't really receive the nicest of treatments so when we moved to Japan I tried my best to get along with everyone, to the point I always tried to take things with a smile, but that just led to people to consider me a faker, someone who never was honest with others."
She sighed gently and resumed to speak. "I had to deal with a lot of bullying, and because of my quirk it was hard to show any proof, so I had this habit that when things became too harsh for me to bear, I would hide behind the gym, and only then allowed my feelings to show. It was at such a time, when a group of bullies had chased me to my hiding spot that she first appeared in my life, yes... just like a knight from a fairy-tale."
She smiled at the nostalgia as she continued with a more cheerful tone. "Tetsu was already like that even as a child, caring about being just and fair, and she would never allow such a slight to go unpunished. Ever since she saved me that day I became her spoiled little princess and she was my beloved knight."
She chuckled briefly, leaning a bit forward as she swayed her legs lightly against the seat. "Although what I am trying to say here is..." She went quiet for a bit, trying her utmost to figure out what to say and yet the words didn't come. What could she possibly say? Did she even have the right to tell Kirk to stop loving Tetsuko? It wasn't like her lover was some sort of possession! "I... don't think you need to worry too much. It's clear that Tetsu cares a lot about you, and I think I speak for the both of us that we truly consider you our best friend, or the most brosome friendship we have with someone~"
She smiled briefly and yet that lingering sensation didn't exactly ease up, that feeling that made it almost hard to breathe. "Still..." and then it started, it was almost like a revelation, that moment a memory of a recent day arose in her mind, it felt like she had a light push in the back, a boost of confidence and courage, and it all came from those words Tetsu had spoken exclusively to her.
"I'm afraid you're about to lose the battle with a straight-up homerun... Because I will be the one to make Tetsuko Shindou my wife! Well someday... marriage is kinda early when we have only just started dipping biscuits."
An awkward giggle escaped her lips as she raised a hand to pat Kirk's shoulder lightly. "But back onto your earlier question about Tetsu's mom... It's quite complicated. You see, for Tetsu her mother was like a role model, someone she admired so strongly, and the incident truly changed things a lot. I'll spare you the medical lingo, but basically Tetsu's mom is in a state where a full recovery is borderline impossible. Although my parents, as the doctors in charge of her were working on creating a treatment to improve her condition, but it's a long and hard road, both for the patient and those around her. So the subject of Tetsu's mother is quite a difficult thing for her to bring up, especially with the way her family is."
She shook her head lightly. "All we can do for now is be there for Tetsu, to support her as she tries to find the answers she is searching so desperately for, and as much as we desire to answer them for her, they are questions that only Tetsu herself will hold the answers to."
Truly, life could be so complicated at times, perhaps that was why she found this world to be so cold and cruel at times, even if there was some beauty to be found in it.

Kirks shrug was probably most indicative of the end of this jokey discussion. If he had had a ticket, who knows. Maybe he would have gone with him, if he hadn't said anything. At this point however, there was no point in thinking about it. He had made his choice, and was gonna stick to it.
Elise started explaining a little bit about her relationship with Tetsuko, in moderate privacy. Kirk just calmly listened, not wanting to interrupt that much. Occasionally she asked questions, and Kirk would answer of course. Being a bro, you had to always be open for that sort of stuff. "I mean, yeah. Would make sense to me." The duo had pretty much always been at least somewhat a team since their first meeting, so that's what he had pretty much assumed. Naturally, she was a target of a lot of quirk based bullying too... which got a bit of a chuckle out of Kirk. "I think at this point, most of us can relate to those frustrations." I mean come on, Kirks quirk was pretty much perfectly made to pull over his head or well, or just pull on its own. "Sort of bullies that at this point just seem kind of silly, you know?"
But of course... it just showed the fact that these two had pretty much tied the knot since they were kids... Destiny and what not. And Kirk wasn't exactly the sort of person to fight it. He scratched his nose, as the girl did confirm that they were still best of bros. "It's a relief, that's for certain." He wasn't sure, if this was a result of them both having had time to think about it, or something else, and he didn't care. All that mattered was that saying it hadn't been put on some permanent record. he was as relieved as he could be. And heck, the girl outright proceeded to give him a challenge, that only SHE would be marrying Tetsuko. Kirk just raised his hands defensively. "Calm down bro! It's not like it's a competition anyway!" He HAD had time to think about these things on his own after all, and with all the other stuff, it just seemed pointless at this point.
"It's not like it's an option anymore anyway. Brocode dictates it so!" He said comedically. it was partially true. In the end, if two of his bros were together, there was no reason for him to try to get them to split. That would be the rudest of mean moves. And in the end, this was for the best.
Apparently, Tetsus moms condition hadn't gotten better... Kirk turned his head to look towards the plane again. "Yeah, that's sadly how it goes I suppose..." His grandpa had seemingly aged a ton in just two years of being out of America. "My grandpa himself was always the type who hated being handled with silk gloves, you know? He would hate being in intensive care like that." But of course, the guy was othervise alright, so as an image, he perhaps just didn't understand her moms situation that well. "Of course, that kind of attitude kind of bled into the way he took care of me. All rough and tumble, always thought I could handle myself just fine!" Had he really been keeping an eye on him as sharply as he said he had?
...Kirk walked out of the empty space, as he wanted to look at the plane his grandpa was in. Other travelers were also looking on. "...I'll be honest... I always thought my grandpa didn't exactly know me that well." He put his hands in his pockets. "Always telling me to do things... not praising me that often... Yet he always kept giving me these big chances." He had kept his secret after all. "You know, getting me to actually try to get into U.A you know?" There were multiple situations, where he had seemingly pushed him forward in his own way. Just this attitude of wanting him to be better. Even after the frustrations with all the quirk stuff he didn't understand, he had still kept telling him to be better. "He told me, that I am exactly what grandma wanted me to be like...!"
And now, after all these years of wanting to prove to his grandfather that he was good... that he was someone worthy to look at as a person! as the plane was slowly starting to ascend... "I am just... happy?" His tears started flowing again, almost remarking all the previous crying marks from before. The kid inside him couldn't stop smiling. "I am happy that he is leaving with... *sob*... such a good impression of me...!" Finally, he straightened his back, snapped his hand to his forehead... Took a breath, and in a way, followed his grandfathers last order to the T!
"THANK YOU! GRANDPA!" The people were around him all flinched as the attitude from his soared, like the rising sun! "I'LL MISS YOU! I'LL COME HOME AND SHOW MY PARENTS WHAT A GREAT HERO I'LL MAKE! I PROMISE!" Never again, would he be ashamed of his voice. Never again would he shy away from shouting what he wanted to shout! But always from now on, He would treasure the bonds he has! That was his grandpas command! And he was not going to be ashamed of it!
And with that, the plane took off. "Could have sworn I heard something." Doohan rubbed his ear. "That boys voice always did have a certain tone to it..."
