When did it all begin? Was it when her own quirk had mutilated her? Had it been the moment she was born? Or perhaps the moment she had left home; free at last from her family. She could hardly remember her time back home in Russia. No, that wasn't true, she could remember the little things. The smell of her mother's cooking. The bite in the air as winter set in. The sound of livestock. Her father's laugh. Small details. Things she liked. Things she still dreamed about on occasion. Things that made her feel things. There were rumors about her, here and there, whispers on the internet and among the police studying the more enigmatic villains. Ishtar was a classical sociopath, she did not feel, she was methodical, uncaring, precise.
Flattery. But untrue.
She felt. She felt deeply and fully. Emotions poured through every fiber of her being while the world around her grew darker and darker. She hadn't been injured, nor was she sick or dying. Yet these were her last moments, the last moments she would experience before a new stage of her life began. Today everything would change in more ways than one. It was possible that nothing outwardly would change, it was possible that she could walk away from all this empty handed, not a material possession to breathe about as a trophy. Yet she didn't care. Because it was the immutable, insubstantial, untouchable things that she craved more than any other. And there was no greater prize than the one she was about to receive. No greater achievement. No greater destiny.
The car came to a stop.
Ishtar. The White Queen. Had arrived in Kobayashi territory.
Already her reputation had begun to spread. The weapons she sold had fallen into the hands of villains of all stages in society. Her scheme to instigate hell on earth was well on its way. The Heavenly Bull was on its way to trample upon an unsuspecting Tokyo. Her corporation grew in power. Her wealth would be sufficient to infect not only hero society, but soon she would stretch her claws outward, to her homeland, to korea, to china, to the world. She'd joined the Fraternity to begin spreading her message. Of a new ideology among villains. A villain society. A reclaiming of a word; Villain was more than just 'the antagonist' 'the bad guy'. A villain, a true villain, was an ideal. It was the champion of the freedom to act on desire, to become more than the individual, to take without restraint and not be bound by the chains of society. Villains should be fostering one another, giving one another strength, power.
It was funny, then, that the boy had called on her. Her beliefs so antithetical to his fathers. That the son of Thunder Shock would call upon Ishtar for help.
A pair of guards flanked her as she stepped out of the car. The atmosphere already quite tense. The estate was... more than she had expected, and less in some other ways. Though she had to admit her mental image was a bit skewed by the legends and stories. Now that she was here; reality seemed a little less.
Another mark of strangeness was her attire. She preferred to separate Sonya and Ishtar where she could. Yet tonight was dinner according to the boy. Even so. She was not coming as some woman to be oggled and appreciated for her beauty. She was here to make a statement and to hear out someone requesting her aid. So she wore her villain outfit, a small halfcape over her shoulders in order to add a bit of drama to her get up. The rebreather was secured firmly over her mouth and a small light at her jaw flickered when she breathed. Her eyes glowed with a vibrant pink light, artificial and filled with various lenses that spun angrily to adjust to shifting lighting conditions.
She followed the guards as far as they dared before stopping. Ahead, she saw a figure approach. She remained silent. Waiting for her host to greet her. | TAG WORDS NOTES

While his father was out of commission, Taichi was the first of his children to step up to the plate, of course not many of his brothers or sisters were loyal to Thundershock, but that was besides the point. Even after years of trying to keep his nose out of family affairs, he couldn't continue to sit by and do his own thing when the man that raised him was down... after the cage match with that Vigilante, G, Thunder had been left worse for wear. Not only was he healing slowly, but mentally. So here he was, taking up a mantle he had hoped to never take. Interim Leader of the clan, or rather right hand man? Who knew. All he knew was that any decisions he made would have long standing consequences.
And that's why he had invited her. When his father came back to his senses, he couldn't just let him get back to his old ways... that was going to destroy both himself and the clan, and while he didn't care too much about the clan... his father had given up a normal life outside of it for him... so it was time to return the favor to some degree.
So here he was, standing outside the gates to his mothers estate, the home he had invited Ishtar too. A home that was still a secret from the police, and not located in the underground city either. Still their territory, but hidden in plain site. Thankfully, no one knew Taichi as a villain per se.
As a car pulled up to the gate, the guards would be quick to stop the woman from entering. They would have a whole bunch of questions to ask her, but as they started to question her, Taichi opened the gate from the inside and stepped out.
"Relax boys, she's with me." He stated calmly as he looked up to Ishtar with a rather goofy expression on his face. The boy looked young for his age, a trait he always took advantage of when the chance arose. Taichi was dressed very opposite to Ishtar, wearing proper black dress pants and a light purple dress shirt that hung open much more than was socially acceptable. Underneath that shirt, you could see what looked to be a necklace with 3 various sized claws dangling from them. His long hair was pulled back into a pretty wild ponytail, exposing the pointed ears that were in no way a family trademark that was easy to recognize.
"I hope you found the estate easily enough, Lady Ishtar. Why don't you follow me inside so we can talk? Oh, I'm Shadow Bringer by the way~ Not my real code name but thought it'd be pretty cool for that online chat." He explained nonchalantly as if he had known Ishtar for years. He would stick his hands into his pocket before turning to lead her down the front path towards the mansion. Maybe they should stay outside to talk, more fighting space if it came to it, and less ears to listen in on them...

The two guards were... pushy to say the least. They moved in without a moment of hesitation, eager to begin questioning the stranger. Why wouldn't they? She was clearly dangerous. Her outfit screamed preparedness to fight and her presence alone was enough to make most weak minded trash flee immediately. She stared at them cooly as they began their interrogation only to break into a smile when a youthful voice caught her ears. This must be him. She turned to acknowledge... oh how curious.
He was smaller than she had initially expected. Shadow Bringer. He dressed well enough though she could have recommended a tailor for him; her own fashion designers would have made something more appropriate for the occasion. That was besides the point though. She took him in with a brief but measuring glance before breaking into a smile. "Thank you for the kind welcome," Ishtar said casually, her glowing eyes twinkling a bit while she turned to follow him. She kept the tone light and conversational, just as he had. "It certainly served it's purpose. Admittedly I was suspicious that you were who you said you were, but you've clearly proved your identity with this..." She gestured around them.
They turned to take a main path and she crossed her arms behind her back. "You took a big risk calling me here. While my face isn't known, I've taken pains to make my name get out..." She said. "You even used that name at the door. You wanted word to spread that I was here..." Her lips curled into a smile beneath her rebreather; "What is your game, boy?" | TAG WORDS NOTES

"Hmmm?" He would ask as he glanced over his shoulder at the woman following him indoors. He had heard what she said of course, stating that he was playing some sort of game by using her name with the guards. He honestly just hadn't thought of it. Unlike his father, Taichi didn't like to think 3 steps ahead. It created too much room for error and surprises. He thought on his feet, and it surely got him into just as much trouble, but he liked it.
"No games, I'm not like my father. Honestly what else was I supposed to call you? Woman? You? Not really polite you know, and I've had some courtesy knocked into me over the years. As for the mansion, this is actually my mothers, so try not to touch anything... if anything goes missing she'll know." He would inform her with a rather sluggish attitude. He continued to answer any questions she might have as they walked up to the mansion. The door was held open for them by a well dressed, handsome maid that bowed as the two passed by her without a second glance from the young master of the house.
Taichi would then guide his guest up a flight of stairs and a ways down the hallway to what looked to be a study. The walls were lined with books, shelves and cases covered in precious gems, statues and artifacts that had been 'acquired' over the years. At the center of the study there were two large two seater sofa's with a coffee table between them. Atop the table, there was a pot of piping hot tea with two teacups facing either seat, along with an assortment of cakes and other deserts.
"Help yourself, the pastry chef makes the best sweets." He said as he moved over to the far seat, then sat himself comfortably, pouring himself and his guest a cup of tea, regardless of her answer. When he put the pot down he would sit back, letting the tea cool for a moment.
"So, I guess we've got a lot to talk about, I suppose I'll start by formally introducing myself. My name is Taichi Kobayashi, first son of Thundershock and next heir to the clan. I've never wanted to take it over, really, but the way my father is carrying himself, it's only a matter of time before we've got the military knocking on our doorstep. Fathers ideal is to create a world were those with quirks don't need to hide who they are, and he wants to go as far as to eliminate anyone without a quirk, or find a way to give them quirks of their own. I personally like the first part of his ideal, to let quirkers be free to do what they want, but I could give a damn about the quirkless and their place in all this.
Now, how this brings you into the picture? Untamed my father is going to wage war, and with his recent cage match, that war might be closer than we would like it to be. His war is going to see so many quirkers slaughtered for nothing but his vanity. He needs someone to be the brains behind his brawn. From what I hear, you've got plenty of it and an ideal quite similar to our own." He paused there, giving Ishtar a chance to sit and take everything in. There was going to be a lot for them to discuss and plan prior to Taichi going back to the underground mansion.

Ishtar frowned while he spoke on their way in. He was so... direct. It was odd, but not in a bad way. A tad endearing if she had to put a word to it at all. She crossed her arms behind her back and let her eyelids droop a bit to conceal the greater glow of her artificial eyes. It was a sign that she was at the very least relaxing in his company. "It's rare to see courtesy of that level in a young man these days... I thank you," She said, tilting her head respectfully while she walked along. He pointed out it was his mother's mansion and he gave a gentle warning about property going missing. She laughed; "Otets mozhet nazyvat' eto svoyey zemley, no dom yavlyayetsya sobstvennost'yu materi," She said in her native Russian; "The father may call it his land, but the home is the domain of the mother," She translated, giving him a playful look out of the corner of her eye. "I know better than to test the wrath of a mother," She said.
As they passed into the mansion, a stunning creature awaited them. The maid that stood, bowed, and kept her eyes fixed on the ground drew Ishtar's attention despite her eagerness to keep her own self-control. She resisted grinning and instead just took a moment to appreciate something delightful before focusing back on the task at hand. She followed him through the halls and up stairs until they arrived at a study. Books lined every wall in a way that made her heart skip a beat, precious gems, statues, artifacts from a long past era. These were the trappings of wealth, a concern for culture, intelligence. They were a bit of a cry from the dangerous and violent man that was the focus of the meeting this evening. Had he fallen so much? Was paranoia truly that dangerous a foe? She huffed once when she looked away from the beauty of it all, trying not to seem saddened by it.
Then they arrived at where they would be meeting. What looked more like a meeting table for talking things over with clients. A coffee table set between two comfortable sofas. Piping tea was ready for them along with treats and cakes. Sonya sat just as he did, staring at hm evenly from over the table. She glanced down at the deserts and drinks, reaching out to take the glass. She didn't sip right away, trust was earned after all, and instead crossed her legs, leaning into the cushion; "I will, thank you, but first I want to hear from you," She said.
Taichi Kobayashi. The Kobayashi Yakuza group. She knew of it, she knew it had been connected to Thundershock in some distant way; but the fact that Thundershock himsel was the head off the group was a surprise to be sure. She reached down and took up the tea, sipping once at it and finding the flavor pleasant and, to her relief, unpoisoned. She nodded gravely when he began speaking of the military getting involved. His father was playing a dangerous game these days and his behavior was starting to appear erratic. That was what had originally drawn her attention in the first place. That and her concern. Then it came, at last, Thundershock's ideals, his goals. They were... simple in their own way. But also quite admirable in others Though his methods and ideas of how to achieve it were barbaric at best.
"I can concur with the first as well. My aim is to normalize quirks, heroes, and villains, to make them inseparable from society," She said, tilting her head; "The rest, though, are frankly abominable and wasteful," she waved her hand dismissively; "You are right, I would have no part in such things." She added, then waited for him to continue.
And heavens, did he continue.
Her mouth fell open behind her mask.
The lids of her eyes were up, wide, and her eyes glowing.
She leaned back, putting down her cup and examining him as if she'd seen him for the first time. Did he truly, truly understand what he was asking? Did he comprehend what position he was putting himself in? The Yakuza were the pinnacle of the old guard, the separation between Villains and Criminals. Thundershock embodied that transition society was going through towards a new era. But at the same time, he was a powerful and dangerous man. He was also the head of a nationalist Yakuza family. What the boy was asking, what he was considering... it was tantamount to treason. He was asking her to take his father's reigns. To direct him. To force the Yakuza to bend the knee in one way or another. If Thundershock heard what the boy was suggesting. She had no doubt the Number One Villain would kill him without mercy.
She looked him up and down.
"What you are asking, do you understand the implications? Do you genuinely understand the risk you are taking?" She asked him. Genuine respect in her tone. The smugness gone as something bordered on mild admiration crept into her psyche. This kid was something else. | TAG WORDS NOTES

"I'm glad to see I wasn't wrong about you, Lady Ishtar. Your vision is much more in like with what the true vision of the Kobayashi should be. It's not so different, but my father needs the right nudge to push the clan back to the true ways of Yakuza."
He went on as he took a sip of his own tea, putting it down to grab one of the cakes and start munching away at it as she watched Ishtar process everything that he had just told her. She was looking at him with such awe, that he couldn't help but smirk, showing the slightest bit of his fangs in the process. He'd definitely hooked her, which was good. What he was offering was no less than control over Thundershock, no small feat and no small task to be sure. Thankfully she did seem to understand the implications of his involvement, to which he just waves his free hand as if it were nothing. "I do. I was raised by the man, I know what happens when someone betrays his trust. If you aren't family, he'll torture you and watch you slowly die. If you are family? Well not quite so horrendous. He has his own creed about his children, me being the first means he has quite a bit more respect for me and my actions. He's fully aware that one day I may try a hostile takeover. That's how he said he wants it to happen if it ever does. So, there'll probably be a fight, but I can hold my own. Lightning can't hurt me."
He explained then took another bite out of his cake as if he was declaring victory right then and there. After finishing the treat, he would wash it down with more tea before taking in a big breath and letting it out as a sigh. "I'm not saying that I want to take over, that isn't my plan. To him however it will seem as such, and that's why we need to play our hands close to our chest. We need to make sure he still maintains control over everything he's built over the year, just with a new nudge to point all his efforts in the right direction. A woman like you, I'm sure you'll have no problem with him. His biggest weakness after all are powerful women~"

The true ways of Yakuza. Ishtar carefully restrained a laugh, sipping at the tea provided to her while the boy munched down on a cake. She crossed her legs, leaning back in her seat; silver hair falling down as she relaxed a little. She drew her fingers together, clasping her hands at her waist as a proper young woman might do. But the way she did it made her seem almost disinterested. Even while a burning turmoil boiled over in her mind. Taichi was not just betraying the Yakuza to her; he was handing her japan. With enough time, money, and effort. The underworld of Japan would be hers. She canted her head to the right, a squint narrowing the blazing pink glow to thin lines while he continued to speak.
Another admission. HIs quirk gave him some measure of immunity to lightning. Or at the very least thats what he wanted her to think. No. She couldn't let herself fall into the trap of believing he thinks like she does. His mind, while sharp and possessed of good instincts is not the political mind. He isn't here to play games. He's here to regain some semblance of order in the underworld. To undo the damage done. Because there has been damage done. Ishtar's smile widened beneath her mask, there was even a perpetrator related to neither of them. While Thunder Shock's bigotry and ethnocentric considerations were the most to blame for his slow descent into madness; the actions of the Plutocracy pushed him over the edge. Disrespectful. Short Sighted. Calamitous.
And now look at where she was. Cleaning up after the Plutocracy's mess. Ishtar's expression turned to a snarl when it finally occurred to her. She should make the Plutocracy pay for all this trouble; they claimed they had all the money in the world-that they were powerful. Fine then. They had always been an obstacle of some sort, but now they were on her list. They'd set the stage to derail her plans and push her in a new direction. They only had themselves to blame that she'd found herself marching in their direction. Oh yes. They would pay. Ishtar looked him over with thoughtful eyes; a smile twisting on her lips as she reached up to grab the release lever on her rebreather. She removed the mask, her distorted voice replaced with the sweet, motherly tones of her own real voice.
She smiled at him, showing white teeth; "Then we'll start where we began; an invitation," She reached into her pocket and drew forth a single metal pin, placing it down on the counter between them. The symbol of the Black Lotus. The Fraternity. "The Fraternity will one day become the standard of villains in this new era, and I aim to make it so. Keep your ideals as a Yakuza. I admire that and will admit my... model is based somewhat on the familial structure as well." She tapped the pin. "That pin is yours. Welcome. Use the resource. Think of that as a small part of my gratitude for your invitation today;" She added before crossing her legs and looking him in the eyes.
"I will take Japan's underworld, Taichi Kobayashi. All of it. I will use Hero Society to my benefit, twist it's intentions and profit from its members. This was always my plan in one way or another. The Plutocracy forced my hand when it forced it's whims upon your father. Your father's presence was something I relied on in a way," She said, frowning. "Even so, he's just a man. And as you've said he is losing his grip. Why shouldn't I just put an end to him and ask you to take over, regardless of your desires? You're a wise man despite your protestations, and as your father's son you command respect of his underbosses." She needed just a little more convincing before she took the bait. She was sold, to be honest, but she wanted to see his commitment.
"Why should I form this 'League of Villains'? When things are already going so well for msyelf?" She asked, her pale skin glittering as her pink eyes burned in his direction. Just a little more. Show me the potential I already see. Show me that you'll be the one to surpass your father one day. | TAG WORDS NOTES

Taichi kept his eyes trained on Ishtar the entire time he spoke, his face remaining rather neutral as he watched her expressions through it all. He wondered exactly what was going on in that head of hers. He wasn't an idiot, he knew he couldn't fully trust a woman he had just met... but so long as he could push her to do what he wanted, then he would face the consequences for it later. That's when his more stern expression moved, and he raised an eyebrow when she extended him an 'invitation'.
A pin? Apparently this represented some form of fraternity... a family much like his own. Those not bound by blood but by creed. Interesting... so this was almost like making a pact with a rival Yakuza clan. Almost. He reached out for the pin, picking it up carefully and bringing it up to hold in front of him, analyzing it closely before slipping it into the pocket of his jacket.
"You'll need to elaborate more on this Fraternity of yours, though that should be for another time. Color me interested. Unlike my father I just want to get out there and find myself a worthy rival. Maybe this fraternity of yours can give me that. But back to the subject at hand, I think you misunderstand my goal. I'm not out to give you Tokyo's underground. That will always belong to the Kobayashi, regardless of the direction my father takes. That being said, everything above ground can be yours~ They say that political influence moves the world far more than the world my father wants to rule.
And speaking of my father, you'd be hard pressed to put an end to him. Sure that cage match showed everyone just how human he is, but that aside, he has an empire to protect him. Even if you somehow killed him, I'd sooner let my sister take the helm than do it myself. I want my clan to thrive, but I'm not meant to lead it. That just isn't me, no matter what you wanted.
As for why we need to form this 'league' as you put it... It's simple. The way things are, villains are fighting among themselves for control or power, when we should be fighting against those that oppress us. Having a unified front makes us stronger than following several, smaller 'clan leaders'. To do that, we need my father to get his shit together, and seeing as you yourself are one such clan leader, it's to your benefit to work alongside him and gain from his resources. It'll expand both the clan, and this fraternity of yours. What you do outside Tokyo once it's in our hands, is up to you. We will assist where we can, but it's of no interest to us." He would explain to her very carefully, leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees as he spoke, looking a tad bit more the thug he normally portrayed. The way he spoke seemed so contrary to the way he looked, you could tell that his words were passionate and that he was slipping back to the way he was raised to speak, instead of his lax, thuggish mannerisms. He truly wanted to help his father get out of this, but the more he spoke with Ishtar, the more he worried about how to deal with her later if it came to it.

Ishtar settled back into her seat, she let him talk. Not a word escaped her lips while he gave his speech. She clasped her fingers together in her lap, keeping her expression unreadable. She'd shown him too much emotion today, now was the time to listen and be polite. Her carefully chosen words earlier had been effective, of course, she'd poked and prodded and gotten a reaction. She wanted to know more about his goals and with a little work, he was more than happy to share. Not that he was easily manipulated, on the contrary, he showed remarkable self-control despite his insistence that he was not ready for such responsibilities. Her head canted to the right as he wrapped up his statement, leaning forward and looking at her with an effort to put on a thuggish front. She canted her head to the left, and to the right again, her eyes falling shut as she absorbed it all. Finally, her eyes opened again, glowing, layers upon layers of lenses spinning to adjust to the sudden loss and gain of light.
She took a deep breath and in a moment went from her usual smug, poised expression to pure, unfiltered seriousness. All pretenses of amusement and playfulness were gone; there was nothing left of Sonya. Only Ishtar.
"Confidence in your father is fine, as long as you don't come to rely too much upon it," She said flatly, running the palm of her hand over her knee. Her long nails glinted a bit in the artificial light that felt so good against her skin. "I have no interest in putting Thunder Shock down like some dog," she said, waving one of those manicured hands dismissively; "I have too much respect for the man. If it were to come down to such a thing, it would be face to face. But as you've so eloquently expressed; he's far more useful to me alive," She said, uncrossing her legs and recrossing them. At last, a smile coming to her face; "Clearly you know better than you pretend to. I won't continue to pry into why you want to avoid responsibilities, it means no difference to me. Just know that at the very least I will be taking you very seriously in the future," She said plainly. She sipped at her drink and smiled broadly at him.
"I gain the Kobayashi as my army, a war between our groups never happens; unopposed, Thunder Shock claims the entirety of the Tokyo Underground. Your group gains access to the weapons and support gear I distribute, eliminating any dependence the Kobayashi have on the Plutocracy. We will have to negotiate how to handle hero society; the heroes are far too useful alive to be eliminated. As I expand my influence the the Kobayashi will have the opportunity to expand with me, my gains are your gains, your gains are mine. We avoid needless conflict in exchange for mutual benefit;" She rested her hand back on her lap; "I believe I got it all?" | TAG WORDS NOTES

It was obvious to him that this woman, Ishtar, had ulterior motives. Of course she did, like him she was a villain, and he had fully expected it coming into this. He wasn’t an idiot, but unlike his father he was more willing to take risks to ensure a greater outcome. He finished what he had to say, falling silent in turn as the woman now turned rather serious and took her turn to speak. He did let a small huff escape his lips as she borderline accused him of relying too much on his father. It was obviously a sore spot by that huff alone, but Taichi left it at that. He did have the utmost confidence in Thundershock, because out of everyone that followed him, taichi had seen the hard work the man put into everything he did. He saw beyond the villain, unlike most of those around him. He could only think of 1 other that saw him in the same light, and that was his uncle Takeo. Bringing his thoughts back to the present, it was reassuring to hear that she had no intention to try and kill Thundershock, that she id have some measure of respect for him which assured him that he was making the right choice here. She was even kind enough not to pry into why Taichi didn’t want the responsibility of leading the clan. A topic he really didn’t want to get into with anyone. Instead, she summed up their entire conversation promptly, clarifying what each faction would gain in this alliance beautifully. Taichi would sit up straight once more, nodding his head as he seemed to visibly relax, reaching for his tea and finishing the drink in one large gulp. “That sounds right to me. I’m positive my father won’t agree to this right away, not in his current state of mind. But once we manage to calm him down he will see the need to this alliance. All our resources will be yours to use, as will yours be ours. I’ll ensure that any attacks on heroes from the Kobayashi ceases for the time being until we can discuss their usefulness to our future. I’m glad that you understand and agree to this my Lady, it’s been an honor to meet and work alongside you.”
He said as he finally stood up across the table. He’d pull a business card out of his pocket and offer it to Ishtar. It had all the ways she could contact him beyond the villain chat, making it much easier for the two to communicate. In the future.

Ishtar took another sip of her tea, placing the cup down and rose across from him, all glitter and spectacle hanging around her. She extended a hand and took the business card from him flipping it over and sliding it into her hand purse. She nodded and drew out her own, a sleek metal thing with the ASTA Corporation logo. There was no point in playing identity games at this point. Their wicked little pact had been struck and with it, they had assured their mutual empowerment and destruction. There was no going back now. "I'll send my people to handle the weapons demonstration and get your orders. We'll need to move quickly if we want there to be little overlap between abandoning the Plutocracy and taking up the new goods..." She said, all business. "I take care of my clients," It wasn't arrogance. It was an affirmation, a fact. She took her job very very seriously.
She turned away from him, glancing over her shoulder while she drew out those oversized fashion sunglasses she wore so often. "I'm looking forward to having that sit down with your father, Taichi. Just try not to play it up like a marriage interview dearie~" She winked; "Don't want to give the poor man ideas." She laughed and strode away, pulling out another burner cell and calling her driver, informing him that she was safe and he needed to set up a line with the board of directors; it was time to get the ball rolling. | TAG WORDS NOTES
