'CUZ THIS GIRL WON'T STOP TALKING ABOUT IT THERE WAS A POP WHEN DAISUKE'S RIGHT HOOK connected with Kenji’s jaw, followed by the familiar taste of blood.
Only an idiot would fight Daisuke Hashimoto- the dude was built like a sumo wrestler, and had the temper of a kicked hornet’s nest. He treated the classroom as his own, personal forum to be heard-- and he preached about only the most infuriating topics. He was a big guy, though. Big and mean. Big, mean guys could say whatever they wanted.
So, Daisuke said that all quirkers were basically animals, and that they needed to be rounded-up and put-down before the bad genes spread too far.
Only an idiot would fight Daisuke Hashimoto.
Kenji, fitting that descriptor to a T, cussed him out-- citing Daisuke’s mother, and Daisuke’s sexuality, as the source of his attitudes about quirkers.
Kenji’s fate was sealed.
Four o’ clock at the park near the train station.
Word spread like wildfire of the redhead’s imminent demise. That said, the crowd that showed-up was… much larger than Kenji had anticipated. Mostly teenagers, some in strange uniforms not from this part of town.
Before Kenji could sight Daisuke in the throngs, two classmates grabbed his arms.
Out of the throngs, Daisuke led with his right hook, Kenji couldn’t raise his arms to defend himself.
There was a pop when Daisuke’s right hook connected with Kenji’s jaw, followed by the familiar taste of blood. Kenji’s head reeled, but he had the wherewithal to spit in Daisuke’s direction, spraying him with blood and pelting him with the molar that had been dislodged from his punch. Daisuke yelled in disgust, mopping at his face.
Slippery sleeves were donned up to Kenji’s shoulders. He slid free of his classmates’ grasp and dropped to the ground. He sprung to his feet, lunging with a few punches of his own. They were admittedly sloppy, but they connected-- with Daisuke’s ear, his eye.
What ensued was messy and nothing short of a fight between junior high students. Daisuke, furious, strived to get a hold of the redhead but initially went for Kenji’s exposed arms, which were shimmering a barely perceptible blue. What Daisuke had, however, was raw strength. Kenji, on the flipside, wriggled out of must holds that Daisuke had, but his meager hits did little to stir the lumbering giant. Each got their blows in, but the fight came to a grinding halt when Daisuke finally took hold of Kenji’s shirt, rolled the diminutive teen over his shoulder, and dropped him onto the pavement.
All at once, things were too bright. He couldn’t focus on anything. He couldn’t breathe. Fuck, that was stupid. That was really stupid. Hindsight 20-20. Amidst the yells of the bystanders, Daisuke’s voice cut through it all.
“Next time, mind your own fucking business, bitch!” Daisuke spat, the rivulet of saliva trickling down Kenji’s forehead. Daisuke’s shoe connected with Kenji’s head.
Lights out.
Eventually the assault abated, when Kenji steadily went slack, his eyes unfocused. Daisuke's friend's pulled him away and the bigger boy was finally able to see something other than red. He straightened his uniform's coat and quickly made his retreat. Some of the crowd dissipated, too, only interested in the action. Some lingered, though, surging around the redhead, who was beaten and bloody and still laying on the ground. Someone had to be sure he wasn't dead.

It was rare for a high school fight to garner this level of traction. It was even rarer for it to do so without any sort of authorities stepping in. But rarest of all, was for any fight to be mentioned online, without Iwasaka Shouko hearing about it. Whether it was her subscription to various forums dedicated to Musutafu's occasional violence, or the few subscribers her channel had obtained and had a vested interest in the girl having more material- Shouko had long since made a habit of being on top of all the havoc and happenings within walking distance! And this one was no exception.
In the first corner, Daisuke Hashimoto. A name the girl had heard before, although this would be her first time catching him in action. In any case, he was someone who was more than happy to name a time and place, and his cronies would spread the word. He liked the crowd. People like him always did. And by the fact that he was continuing to do this, it seemed he was more than just talk. Either that, or he only chose opponents like the one he was facing today.
Ken... Something or other. The posts, made by Daisuke's circle, would naturally ignore his opponent to the fullest extent. He was Daisuke's extreme opposite- Small, scrawny, and frankly, weak. That much was obvious before the fight even began- Unless he was a quirker. Quirks were a game changer which could make even the scrawniest of shrimps capable of lifting a horse. Which was why Shouko hadn't counted this Kenichi(?) out yet. Surely, someone who challenged an opponent whose build outstrapped their own so heavily had a trick or two up their sleeve, right?
But if she was expecting the scene where the kid turned out to have studied Jujitsu since he was old enough to walk and the larger body was tossed about like a ragdoll, she was destined for disappointment. It wasn't even something that could be called a fight- It wasn't even a one on one! The large body of Daisuke was easy to pick out in the crowd, but his opponent only became visible as the crowd parted around him. Save for two middle schoolers wearing the same uniform as Daisuke. The girl's teeth gnashed together as she watched this mockery of everything she held dear.
But even as she started pressing forward to intervene in the name of her beloved battles, a stray thought crossed her mind. The school regulations regarding fighting were a thing she followed religiously, lest she be expelled from UA! And lose access to the super-powered battles held daily within! And in a fight, a moment's pause was a long time. Recovering from the ambush, Kenkuro(?) slid forth from the grips which held him! And the following brawl- Her interest in Daisuke was lost the moment he resorted to cheap tricks against an opponent who was weaker than him to begin with.
And, despite her every hope to the contrary, Kenkai(?) was every bit as weak as he looked. Weak, but interesting- That was her final verdict. His hits were hardly effective- Even the ones which struck at such soft points as Daisuke's vitals. However, the blue glow which coated his arms would never be missed by her analyst's eye! That was a quirk, if she ever saw one... And his way of slipping forth from every grab only cemented her certainty! Kenta(?) was a slippery one! Literally! But unfortunately for him, a fight can't be one just by dodging and evading... And as the blows piled up, one side was clearly the victor. To the point where the very end of the fight was just plain hard to watch.
But Kenkyr(?) hadn't given up yet! And regulations aside... Shouko wasn't someone who would interfere in a man's fight! And so her fists clenched and her teeth ground audibly, even as the one-sided fight came to it's end. But was Daisuke content with that? No! The large boy would trample the pride of his opponent, spitting on him, and kicking his prone body. It was... An action unbecoming of a fighter! Felt the girl who had an unnecessarily rose-tinted outlook on fights in general.
Finally, the girl pushed through the dissipating crowd. A kick to the head, with Kenobi(?) so injured? That was bad news! As she reached the side of the prone body, it was clear that the boy had been knocked out cold. A concussion? His state left a lot to worry about- But if anyone was experienced with the injuries sustained in battle, it was Iwasaka Shouko!
Disclaimer. Familiarity does not necessarily result in ability to treat.

'CUZ THIS GIRL WON'T STOP TALKING ABOUT IT THE DARKNESS HUNG ABOUT KENJI as passengers surrounded one another on a train-- impossibly close, cloyingly warm, and murmurous-quiet without being actually-quiet. Things came back into focus as they might when one was adjusting the lenses of a microscope. Spin this knob here, turn this dial slightly.
“Is he dead?”
“Nah, he’s breathing.”
“Oi, kid!”
Why was it so dark? And what more, why was Kenji thinking about science? Was he asleep in science class? Finally, the boy fought his eyes open, and was greeted by a light that was far too bright. His skull screamed. Kenji pinched his eyes shut.
“Oh, he’s awake!” and onlooker observed. Kenji didn’t recognize any of them. He also didn’t like how they were standing over him. There was a girl, like… right there. He didn’t know her. She was too close.
Kenji struggled to sit up, blinking the world back into focus. He squinted at the girl that loomed over him. Everything hurt-- his entire body throbbed, and the world tilted around him. Kenji clenched his teeth experimentally. His mouth still tasted like blood.
“W… where…?” he started to ask.
Something dribbled down the back of Kenji’s head, hot against his neck, and it interrupted his train of thought. The diminutive teen drew a hand to the back of his head, prodding his scalp with tentative fingers. The touch stung. The teen sucked air through his teeth. When he surveyed his hand, it came back slick and red.. Blood.
Kenji turned towards the ground. Where he’d been laying, a puddle of blood. His blood.
The redhead looked at his hands, his knuckles were swollen. And the blood on the ground… it had to be a fight. But with who? He turned a bleary gaze towards the girl beside him. She wasn’t familiar, but at the very least she appeared friendly.
“What happened?” he asked. The teen contented himself to sit on the ground for now, too sore and too unsure to stand.
“Who…?” he started to demand. Maybe she didn’t know "who". She wasn’t wearing the uniform for his junior high, after all. If she’d been from his school, there was an off-chance that she wouldn’t have even stopped for Kenji anyways… he was just… irredeemable like that. Kenji raised a stiff hand to his eyes, rubbing them as if to rub away the persistent throbbing in his skull. He was scrounging for details of the day preceding, trying to piece-together how he had wound-up on the ground in a pool of his own blood.

Head wounds always bleed a lot. Who was it that said that, again? In any case, poor Kentaro(?) here was quite the proof of that statement! Even with the ministrations of Shouko and a few other bystanders, the sticky red liquid pooled around him... A discontent look grew on the battle maniac's face. Not because of how her attempts to bandage the wounds seemed to make them worse, no. It was the savagery with which those wounds had been inflicted! "Geeeeh! That wasn't a fight at allll!" The girl complained as she continued to do everything but help. It wasn't just the surprise attack which had begun it, either... "Where was the passion!? The love?" It was merely her one-sided idea of what a fight should be, and the fact that this battle had not come even close.
And yet, even witnessing this, did not awaken her to the truth. To her, a battle was a conversation! People weren't supposed to get hurt! Rather than realize that this mistake was a one sided misunderstanding on her part... She chose to believe that Daisuke was the one in the wrong! Compared to the winner's brutality, she much preferred the accent of Kendama(?)'s fists! Even if he was weak. So, so very weak. Weak enough that he probably shouldn't be fighting. But Shouko would never discriminate based on weakness! What mattered was a heart that enjoyed the fight!
Well, enjoyed may be a stretch for what the boy laying there felt at the moment. But certainly it had felt good getting a blow or two back in, right? Weakness could be fixed, but the spirit was eternal!
"Eh, he woke up? Already?" A surprised voice would sound out. Perhaps she was not so unaware of how useless her ministrations were as she let on... Although presumably some others in the crowd would have a bit more talent in that area. But apparently he had managed to pull some semblance of consciousness, as he started to speak. Where, what happened, and... Who am I? The classic amnesia patient! Just kidding. Even Iwasaka Shouko had the common sense to know he was asking who she was! But... First! There was a line she had never before found the opportunity to use!
"Hey, you. You're finally awake?"
Apparently that classic game was still being rereleased in 2074.
But the joke would hardly last, as even before adding the requisite complementary line, the brunette would burst into a chuckling fit. "Nyahaha! Ahh, sorry, I couldn't resist. But wow, he really got you good! Hey, how many fingers am I holding up?" The girl would offer the classic concussion test, holding three fingers up in front of the boy's face. "You were fighting, you know! You really don't remember any of it?" Short term amnesia, that wasn't a good sign.
As for herself... His initial impression would be pretty clear. She wasn't from his school, that was for certain- Her clothes were far too outlandish to be a school uniform! Rather, it appeared she had tied a blanket around herself to form a sleeveless tunic/skirt combo! Very reminiscent of feudal peasant garb... "Nyah, I'm Shouko! I heard there was a fight, so I dropped by, but... Bah! That wasn't a fight at all!" She griped. Although given the circumstances, it was likely her words would be misunderstood...

'CUZ THIS GIRL WON'T STOP TALKING ABOUT IT THE REDHEAD'S BROW FURROWED, his eyes squinted against sunlight that was too bright. His jaw throbbed with a pulse of its own, and that pulse radiated through his skull. His breathing was ragged. A girl was shouting at him. He was finally awake?
"Uhh, yeah," Kenji croaked. pressing the heel of one hand against his forehead. God, everything hurt. Something about his response was funny, because the girl burst out laughing. Kenji coughed, unsure of where the humor in his statement was. He touched the back of his head again and winced. It still stung, and it was still slick with blood. He almost seemed too distracted to humor the girl, whose hand was now in front of his face.
"Erm..." he squinted, "Uh, three..."
He was trying to get to his feet, gathering his legs up underneath him while one hand remained pressed to the back of his head. All of his motions were slow and unsteady though.
"A fight, huh?" he echoed, "That's not surprising..."
He wasn't sure why that wasn't surprising. Perhaps it was not surprising because of how much everything hurt? Kenji got to his knees, and then attempted to stand, and the world around him tilted. Hoo, boy, he was dizzy. The child staggered.
The girl introduced herself as Shouko, and Shouko was severely disappointed in the fact that she'd come to see a fight, and hadn't been treated to one.
"How... could you not have seen a fight... if you saw me fighting?" the boy said, confused. The girl was totally weird. Or maybe it was just him. He didn't have time to figure out what she meant, not with his head dribbling the way it was. If he bled-out all his blood, would his head shrivel-up like a raisin? The thought made Kenji pale.
"Shouko-san, I need to stop the blood," Kenji said, "Where's the bathroom?"
Forget that he walked through this park everyday and, when he had all of his whereabouts knew the location of the bathrooms. Shouko was the only one giving him information, so he trusted that she knew these kinds of things.
The redhead totally spaced-out on giving his name in reply. He was too preoccupied by trying to keep his brain from sloshing out of its skull. He lingered there expectantly, swaying in the breeze as if the soonest gust of wind would catch him and blow him skyward. If he tried to walk on his own volition, it was incredibly possible that he might pitch forward and face-plant, particularly with how the world spun around him.

Eto, eto, he got all of them right. That meaaant... He was fine! As such, Shouko considered the boy's treatment to be complete... A conclusion that would be overturned by just looking at the blood, and his shaky attempts to stand up. But in the end, she dismissed all of the boy's injuries. There wasn't a concussion, so all was well! He could just slap some spit on the rest and he'd be fiiiiine, you know? "En! That's right! At least you're not too injured!" Although she was still slightly concerned about that whole amnesia thing. What if he couldn't remember where he lived! his own name! "Hey, hey, what's your name?" She would ask as a seemingly non-sequitur follow up. Yes, she already knew the answer, but she wanted to hear it from his own mouth!
Oh wait, was it Kanji or Kenobi? Oh well!
Anyways, Kanebi was not at all surprised to hear it was a fight. "Eh? Do you get in them often? Nah, that can't be! There's no way you'd still be this bad!" Came an entirely logical deduction... That was still the sort of thing she probably should have kept to herself? But it was true! His movements were so amateur, he clearly hadn't stood a chance from the start! Even if he hadn't been restrained... A fact that made Shouko look down on Daisukebe even more! Rather than use his obvious advantage to control the fight and keep both sides safe, he just used it to beat down a weaker opponent... There was no chivalry!
Speaking of chivalry... En! "You were fighting, but he wasn't! In the first place, the moment he had his goons help him, it wasn't a fight... Just straight bullying! And even when you were down, he didn't let up! That's not a fight at all! That's just hurting! People aren't supposed to get hurt in a fight!" One might even begin to wonder where Shouko learned these clearly incorrect rules. But at least her bizarre worldview explained her seemingly contradictory rules. Kenzo, who fought by the book despite his weakness, was fighting! Daisunken who abused his strength to hurt someone he didn't have to, wasn't!
"Eh? Bathroom?" Shouko would respond, caught off guard by the request. But he had a fair point, that he needed to wash off the blood! However, she had never been to this neighborhood before! But! Instead of doing the smart thing and asking one of the many other observers to help! The girl looked around for any vaguely bathroom shaped buildings! "Eto, eto..." She would murmur, her gaze wavering between two such likely subjects. "There! That one should be it!"
As to whether the building was actually the bathroom or not... It would only become clear once they were already there.
As oblivious as Shouko was to many things, even she could not miss how unstable on his feet Kenzaro was! "Nyeh! Here, I'll help you over!" She declared. But she would not simply help him walk, no. Should the boy fail to adequately protest- And perhaps even if he did- He would find himself plucked from the ground by a girl who could probably bear to be more gentle with an injured person!

'CUZ THIS GIRL WON'T STOP TALKING ABOUT IT KENJI BOBBLED A FEW UNSTEADY STEPS, the girl’s responses whirling about him like a school of fish, impossible to focus on due to the sheer magnitude of her responses. She asked his name.
“Uh…” the boy trailed. This was something he should know. It was an easy question. Everybody knew their own name, right? Right? Kenji’s face scrunched slightly. She’d think he was stupid for not knowing. He bowed his head, thinking. How could he get out of this? Something seemed to dawn-on him, and Kenji’s hazel eyes snapped towards Shouko.
“I’d tell you,” he finally proclaimed, “But I don’t know you. People call me… ‘Slapdash’.”
Something about that name felt good. He wasn’t sure why.
Kenji frowned as the girl insisted he couldn’t be in this many fights and be this bad. That wasn’t very nice. His head hurt too much to contest what she said, though.
Her exclamations ventured into unintelligible territory, something about how fights weren’t supposed to hurt. Kenji decided, in that moment, that he was truly concussed. Of course fights hurt. That’s why they were fights.
“I’d like to be in the fights that you’re talking about,” he mumbled, “Fights that don’t hurt. Heh.”
Laughing made his head twinge. The world pitched around him, he started to bobble to the side. Thankfully, for as clueless as the girl was, she at least paid some attention. A pair of hands clasped his bony forearms, steadying him.
“I’m fine, I’m fine,” the boy said hurriedly, trying to maintain some semblance of his pride. Any meager protest seemed to be effectively ignored. The girl tucked an arm behind Kenji’s knees, and behind his shoulders, scooping him up with little effort. He was a tiny kid, so anyone with really any muscle tone would have no issue scooping him up.
A flush crept into his ears, first, and then his cheeks.
“You don’t gotta carry me, I’m not a baby,” he insisted, wriggling weakly. She didn’t seem deterred, or even phased, by his futile squirming. And eventually, Kenji just sat still and allowed himself to be swept-up to the bathroom. Had girls always been this strong? Or was Kenji really that puny? She carried him like he was nothing!!
He tucked his head, his mouth forming a hard, embarrassed line. If his ass-whooping wasn’t embarrassing enough, getting whisked away by the strange girl certainly was.
