A fair, that was interesting. After everything the publisher had done and how quickly she had written, it was finally time for it. The publication and the big fair with lots and lots of books. There were books everywhere in this shopping centre. They made gates and everything from it and she almost felt pained that they used it in such forms of decoration but Hanako was also very nervous. The whole discussion, if she had wanted the books to publish under her now-married name, had taken quite a discussion in November but she had said no and the first batches were quite well received and now it was time see the general public and sign. In case people wanted it, Hanako herself had doubts about it but she wasn't trying to be desperately pessimistic, it's the influence of her health that made her this way.
That did not make this situation any better. She was so darn nervous that she had no idea what to do and this morning it had taken her several seconds to understand why her shoe felt so horrible: it was the wrong foot. She was simply wearing an elegant enough little black dress. Her hair was loose as she had it mostly and she wore white heels. She had left her white phone back at home and she was just walking around the place where she would have to sit and talk about her book. Maybe one person would show up, maybe another person than her own husband or her adoptive children, that would be nice. She chewed on the nail of her thumb, but what if no one showed up, what would that mean for her books, could she write another one? Well not that she was in the right mindset but should she even try? What was the whole point if no one show- SHUT UP!
Right, time to grab a coffee or something. Coffee was good, she had a few more minutes before her part of the event would start and she could talk to some interviewers, some hopefully interested readers, maybe she would just grab the attention of some people while talking, yes, that would work. Now, where was the coffee stand? Great beginning of the new year, she had organized a whole Christmas fair why could she not be calm about this fair that wasn't her to organize. If something would go wrong now, it wasn't up to hear to fix it, what more would you want! She watched the display with her books, Gold and White and Storm in Sight and she was glad to say that the person organizing all this knew perfectly well how to display books, a handful of people were reading the back and some were discussing it. Even if they did not buy it now, they might come back later? COFFEE! Yes, something else to do, that would be a lot better. She nodded to herself and continued to walk. Twenty more minutes until her reading started, well she would be able to handle that, stress level, or so she hoped.
For the sake of giving an idea of what the books are based upon: Gold and White is Eleanor & Park from Rainbow Rowell Storm in Sight is Gone Girl from Gillian Flynn (obviously, not everything is the same, she rewrote the love story based on her own past and Gone Girl is a fantasy part on her side with the kidnapping of Haruuhi)

Okay, of all the places Alaster could be in today, most people would assume that a book fair out in public would definitely not be one of them. After all, his actions after Meiko's arrest were not forgotten about by the public so easily. Most would rightly assume that he would be in hiding, not wanting to risk being found. However, those assumptions would be misleading. Alaster's main advantage was the fact that almost nobody knew that Crowley was nothing more than a mask. And Crowley was not Alaster's only mask. He also had Harry R. Krowe, the reclusive writer.
Speaking of Harry, Alaster needed to go out a bit in his civilian persona. After all, if Harry just up and disappeared from the public eye, people would begin to wonder what happened to him. The last thing Alaster wanted was for anyone to find out that the reclusive writer and the malicious demon were one and the same. The further apart those two lives were, the better. Besides, Alaster could use a break from all the hard work he's been doing. Creating a new gang, running said gang, making preparations for an upcoming gang war, and of course, getting ready to bust out his beloved from her imprisonment. With how stressed out he was, it was only natural for Alaster to want to take it easy for just a moment.
So here he was, dressed in his civilian outfit, his usual sinister squint and slasher smile gone, replaced by a faux relaxed expression. Alaster was here as Harry, so he did not have his usual gear on him. No flight suit, no dart guns, no acid, no knives (except for his switchblade disguised as a pen, but that was only as a last resort that he would hopefully not need), nothing suspicious on his person. He was here not to cause trouble, but to join in the festivities.
Alaster was pleased to hear that Hanako would be here. It had been a while since the two had met. He was pleased to hear that she had written her own books. He was surprised by how much he enjoyed reading them, and even more surprised upon seeing that her writing skills exceeded his own! He was unsure of how to feel on that. On one hand, it was a shame to see someone surpass him. On the other hand, he had no problem with Hanako, and it was a bit heartwarming to see that the woman who had once come to him for writing advice was now the better writer. Alaster was looking forward to meeting with Hanako again and expressing his delight in reading her works in person.
I really should get back to writing once I free my angel from her imprisonment. I can't afford to be left behind in the dust! |

It happened every now and then. More common than a blue moon but rarer than a boozer on hundred-yen-night. Their mother couldn't make it to an event. Yasashi and his sister wound their way through the small crowd that was beginning to form with the opening of the book fair; he had two large boxes under his arms, gripped tight to make sure not to jostle the contents. His sister; on the other hand, carried a trio of smaller boxes and a tin combination safe in her more delicate arms. Even so; she found excuses to complain, "Ya sa shiiiiii~ My arms huuuuuuurt!" the diminutive girl groaned, rolling her head pitifully in that wide collared sweater of hers; her outfit was casual. Which was a surprise given that she'd somehow managed to change in an instant after getting out of class. She gave him a sidelong look, "Bet if I use my quirk I could-" She started but Yasashi, ever vigilant, cut her off with a raised eyebrow. "That permit doesn't give you the freedom to play around in public, Seiki," Yasashi warned her, giving her a sly grin and a smile. "Be happy you even have it to do auditions! Bah ha ha ha!" He barrel laughed. She frowned at him, giving him an especially cross look while inflating her cheeks with a huff. Her hair danced a few different shades of red before returning to the brown that she liked to keep it at. The truth was that she was actually a very plain black haired young girl, but she'd used her quirk regularly to tweak her appearance in a way that kept her identity but added a bit of 'flair'. She turned her head away, "Stupid, boring, dull, dumb, butt face," she muttered. His head whipped to the right, tears beginning to form in his eyes. "How could you say that about your beloved big brother?!" He whined, while she marched ahead of him in a speedy huff; her eyes focused on the small tent that they were making their way towards. Yasashi smiled at her as she marched away. She'd received a permit from the government to use her quirk in performing arts a week or so ago after a successful audition and petition from the entertainment agency she would be working with. She was already going places with her singing, but now she would be working her way towards stardom. He couldn't be more proud. Despite that, she'd been trying-albeit unsuccessfully-to find an excuse to use the fuller extents of her quirk in public thanks to it. Their mother would hear none of it and had given her more than one wallop on the head for doing something stupid or irreverent. After a few well intention whacks on the head from mother dearest, Yasashi watched his sister finally mellow out a bit on her eagerness to use her quirk. She was a good kid after all and knew better, she was just excited. They finally arrived at the small table and tent, the name "TAKA KEIKO" emblazoned on a small sign on the side of the table. Seiki let out a groan of exasperation and threw down the boxes, rubbing her arms while Yasashi put down his two massive boxes with ease and went to work sorting through everything. Taka Keiko's latest book; 'Beyond the Frosted Fields' was getting a limited early release today and Seiki was committed to fielding customers on her own. She said it was 'training' for dealing with fans of her own when the time came. Yasashi, amused, had agreed to not help her unless she called for him and was excited to find that after he finished setting up the displays for his baby sister he would be free to go explore the fair proper. After setting up the last cardboard standee and going over the pitch his mother had tried to teach Seiki for the fifteenth time; he was at last able to wander off into the crowds. A coffee and quick gab with the barista informed him that there would be a reading by one of his mother's contemporaries, a Hanako Mizuki. Not wanting to miss something like that; Yasashi beelined his way through the crowds, his massive frame allowing him a bit of leverage, and worked his way toward the intended location; hoping that Seiki had everything well in hand. | TAG WORDS NOTES

Hanako was getting more nervous, she always thought that she was surely going to do fine. She always thought that she was made of steel but this moment was there. She wished G was by her side but she had said she would do it herself, G could stay at the gym. She took a deep breath and looked at the guy who helped her with the books that were brought here and she turned away from the stand where they were sold. She was so glad when she saw a familiar face, "Harry!" She called out, oh maybe not smart, he might be famous and this was his expertise. She looked around but no one seemed to have caught it, "Oh I am so glad to see you. I wasn't sure how to send you an invite." As she had done that through her boss at metropolitan but she was no longer working there and just stepping into the office was something she did not do. She could not do, but she did not want to think about that. She was still so grateful for Harry's classes that she had sort of had, because they talked about it and she got started, it happened during her time at home and it happened, it gave her so much inspiration. She did not want it again but she was happy about it now.
They would have to talk a bit fast as Hanako was ushered towards the podium and took the stool, god where did that mini crowd come from. That guy was so tall ehm, right, she thought about too many things at one point. She wanted so much to be with her little baby, it was confusing and scary. "Well ehm, thank you all for coming." She was going to talk a little about her books now, she was calming down a little when she spoke about Gold and White, the idea of her husband where she wrote the love story about certainly helped for that. It made her calm down a little as she held the book and talked about it, she looked shortly at Harry before turning her attention to the other people again, the PR manager of the festival came to ask if there are any questions, "Oh yes, if there are any questions, feel free to interrupt me, I don't mind to explain a few things, just no spoilers." She smiled, wow that she would ever say that.

Alaster smiled. With how often he faked it, he was used to making himself seem more cheerful than he actually was. Then again, that was the point of a disguise, was it not? To be convincing enough to pass off a lie as the truth. "No worries about that. I'm here now, and I'm honored to be here." Okay, not everything that Alaster said while in his Harry persona was a lie. He did have the time to read Hanako's books, and he did genuinely enjoy them. It was a shame that with what happened to Meiko, any form of excitement he would have normally felt upon reading such excellent books were very much overshadowed.
Don't think about that. Not now. I'm Harry at the moment, not Crowley. Focus!
Of course, there were others here. Of course, Alaster simply didn't care. Unless someone bumped into him or decided to talk to him for some reason, Alaster would just ignore them. Naturally, he would not make his general disinterest too obvious. It was a good thing that 'Harry' was known to be a reclusive writer who did not socialize much with others in public. That way, it would be a reasonable assumption for one who knew Harry R. Krowe to make that Alaster was simply shy and quiet rather than being rude and uncaring.
But for now, Hanako began to talk, thanking everyone for coming. Alaster listened to her speak. As he did, he began to wonder if there were any questions he wanted to ask. Well, there were a few things he was curious about. But he figured that he could let some other fool ask their question first. After all, he was in no rush, and his questions were not very major to begin with.
It's been a while since I've done a public book signing. I almost miss doing those things. Well, except the parts where something happens to go wrong and I need to pretend I'm in need of saving. |

Yasashi settled into his seat; goodness it had been a while since he'd been able to properly enjoy one of these gatherings. Usually he worked the stand with his sister and his mother while fielding the usual awkward questions about who was who. His mother's quirk made her look around his age, which lead to some discomfort when people wanted to know the identities of the two young people helping her. The few quirkers that came to events like this and weren't harassed were incredibly understanding. It was refreshing when it came up. At any rate, Yasashi rested his elbows on his knees and watched the beautiful woman sit down in front of the small crowd. He shifted in his seat as she began to speak; making sure that everyone knew it was okay to interrupt if they had questions but to not request spoilers.
He wondered what constituted a 'spoiler'. To be honest, his mother had the same hang-up that this woman did, but he couldn't put his finger on what it all meant. He heard a shifting of fabric and saw a rather odd, intense-looking man sit down nearby. Yasashi hesitated a moment when looking at him, something twisting in his stomach that he dismissed immediately and looked back up at the author. A few people began asking basic questions about the story. 'Where was it set?' 'Were there any characters she was willing to talk about?' 'Will there be a romantic subplot?' That last question, in particular, caught Yasashi's attention. He had always been a sucker for romance novels. He leaned forward a bit more.

Hanako was glad some basic questions came, she did not feel like reading already a part of her book but she knew it by heart, had colour code it of course so she could read small parts of both but as they were now talking about Storm in Sight she shook her head, "The book is all about the journalist trying to figure out the kidnapping. The other players in the book so to call them have that focus as well," Hm, maybe she could write a second part about it, "I am a sucker for romance myself as can be obviously seen in Gold and White but I did think that putting a romance part between either of the characters would have taken away the importance of their job and maybe even dishonour them, their focus is to find the kidnapped girl and not to start a love affair or anything else." Old fashioned Japanese so to say, Hanako found her job the most important until she became a mother, but that only pointed out that the combination of a job and finding someone's kid had been the most important thing as well, to make sure the kid was fine. No, she would probably leave it an open ending, it could be fun as a short story to promote another book maybe if she was really into it. It was a funny thing to consider.
"If you prefer romance over thriller I suggest to go read Gold and White of course. It is all about the romance and the relationship of the two main characters." She accidentally but confidently flipped her hair over her shoulder. By not telling too much about herself, it was easy to miss why the book was called after those two colours, surely the colours came back in the book but how randomly were they picked? They were not, but that wasn't the point, a love story over years, over two kids living next door, she made them a little older than that she and G were original, they were teens in the book instead of the younglings that they were, they were split apart for ten years until they bumped into each other in a cafe. Exactly the same as they did, although the girl character spilt coffee over herself while Hanako had done that over someone who passed her and bumped into her, but who cared. She wondered how people took that romance though, it was maybe a little bit too romantic, soul searching and bumping into the guy you had a big fat crush on later. She skipped the part where she and G had not seen each other much for the following year, she had built up the suspense for that. She had not gone too far, she had left it an open ending, but still, it was something. She looked at the crowd, smiled shortly at Harry and noticed a guy looking at her, maybe someone who did appreciate romance as long as it was well done, and she gave Yasashi a smile. Her dream to be a writer had finally come true.
