Shouko's excitement froze on her face at the other's words- "Ah!" She realized. "That's right... It's supposed to cover up, so obviously it's no good if you can see through it... She might not realize why it was necessary, but... The school had requested it, so she would follow through! But her pouting face told the story of her disagreement... After all this, they finally found one that would work... But it was no good!? Why, why was it no good? What was wrong with her body that it needed to be covered up!
Her parents really failed her education on that point, it seems.
But as most emotions, the disappointment did not last long. If it didn't work... That meant they got to test more! And Shouko quickly forgot the material that wouldn't work in favor of the new hotness! "Alright! Hehe, let's go for a twofer!" The girl enthusiastically decreed, without waiting to hear how bad of an idea that would be. The two fabrics were also fishnet style- Although one had a mesh so fine it hardly appeared to be so. Holding it up, the light shone through the fabric, and she could even make out Karirin's figure through it... En, it was like looking through the shower pane's mottled glass! Eh, would the school accept that? Well, it only mattered if it worked!
True to her words, Shouko wrapped not one arm, but both arms in the offered fabric! "Nyahaha, don't worry Karirin! It'll be fiiine!" Sung the girl in a tone which immediately made her words feel untrustworthy. "Haiyaaaaa!" And with her battle cry, stone sweat seeped through the gaps in each fabric! On the left side, the wider gap- Which left her skin mostly visible, and so would be no more suitable for school. Much as the larger one, it had no issues with her quirk- The thick chemical would emerge underneath it, but follow the path of least resistance to form around the garment.
Meanwhile, on the right side, the mesh so thin that it was almost within the school guidelines. Unfortunately... It faced a problem, much as the second material had faced. Namely, as the path of least resistance from multiple pores converged... The gaps became overcrowded. However, unlike that one, there was significantly more elasticity... The push of the stone forced the fabric apart, its appearance distorting and warping. In one hole, the mesh would expand, allowing more material out- But the line of net pushed aside to make that room would lead to another hole becoming small.
The effect of this? Was obvious, especially due to both having been tested at once. On her left, the club was properly formed, although the fabric lacked the decency to be used as a last resort covering of unmentionables. On the other... The club was deformed, misshapen. It was uneven to the eye, let alone to the feeling of the girl so accustomed to creating it. She could hardly shatter it off soon enough, the crumbs adding to the pile of stone quickly growing around her. And, holding up the arm... It was clear that the fabric was unsalvageable. "... Gomen, Karirin..." The brunette apologized. Such a pretty fabric, but... Looking at it now, it was practically torn apart despite still being intact. "I... Guess this one won't work either."
And with that failure, as they prepared the next choice, Karen asked an important question! "Eh? Well, it's not like that! Eto, during the day, I don't actually produce it all that much, you know?" Any suggestions to the contrary were clearly mistaken. "I can control my arms, but... They're the exception! It only expands when I'm asleep, see?" And of course, being asleep, she didn't know how evenly it spread! "En, it shouldn't be even though... I think? Though the end result is pretty even... I think it evens itself out, you know?" Which somehow made it impressive that their latest test had resulted in such a misshapen lump.
"But... I'm not sure where the most of it is, so..." Well, she was asleep, after all. If they could film it happening, it would be one thing... But considering that she would have to be filmed while sleeping naked to do so, such a thing would be highly illegal! "Hmmm... Oh! Here's a thought... Eto, since it's produced a lot more slowly in my sleep... It'll probably have different interactions with the fabric?" Speed made a lot of difference! Slowly pushing through was a lot less dramatic than bursting out all at once, as her arms did! But also... Would take forever to test. So... In the end, it was more of a moot point? Like, sure there were some materials that may work on her body but not her arms... But was it worth the risk of testing them again? While a material that worked on her arms should definitely work on her body!
