"Okay so this is Kouta-" Yumi leaned over to her mom on the couch, showing her mom a selfie she and the underclassman had taken with his camera. She'd managed to convince him after a bit of prodding to let her put a picture of the two of them on her blog so people could see the face behind her new camera work, and it had actually gotten a pretty positive response in terms of likes. She DID however disable comments cause...if anyone saw her with her arm around a boy taking a picture with them, she was sure she'd get a tonne of angry comments from people thinking he was her boyfriend and sayings he could do better or some crap. Kouta was nice though, and she didn't want him to have to deal with the comments of jealous fanboys. Sonya, Yumi's mother, a woman in her later 30s who, quite genuinely, looked like she was barely out of her early 20s at most, took the phone carefully with her own hand and gave a sweet little 'awww' as she looked him over, spreading her fingers across the screen to zoom in and get a better look. "He looks like such a little sweetie. All nervous but...a lot of energy behind the smile?" She'd ask, looking to Yumi to confirm if she had the right assumption. Given she worked in Marketing, and thanks to her own quirk, Sonya tended to be quite adept at reading people, be it their faces to see if they genuinely like an idea or not, or more personally with her quirk. Still, with Yumi's friend, she didn't wanna make the wrong assumption. "Oh he can definitely be nervous but I think he's got a good bit of energy in him...er. Be aware though. He does actually have anxiety so he might be a bit...zoned out, if he took his medication too soon before coming." Sonya gave a slightly dismissive wave of her daughter's words. "Oh don't you even fret. I know what it's like. You think kids in my days didn't have those same issues." "Depression." Her dad, Takoda, chimed out from a single seat off near the TV, nursing a coffee in one hand which he raised to draw attention, boldly stating he had problems with depression and medicated it as a kid himself. Neither Sonya or Yumi were thrown off by this news or chose to bother him with it. They were a pretty open family and it had either came up before, or it didn't hold too much weight. If something was meant to be said about it, he wouldn't have chimed it out so simply afterall. "Now you're sure he just wants a meal? I mean I'd be more than happy to pay him." Yumi shook her head. "I mean, I think it'd be nice if we snuck a bit of money in his pocket or something but he seemed quite insistant we just cook him a meal or something, but I'll double check with him once he's done." A soft knock at the door caught the two women's attention, and Yumi shot her mother a bright smile before headingt to answer the door, catching her santa hat off the side of the couch as she went and plopping it on her head, her hair down rather than in it's usual ponytail. "Oh, must be him. Back in a sec!~" Yumi headed up to the door of her rather homely little house. A two story building that didn't share any walls with those around it, and even had a nice little patch of green to the right of the door under the front window, which itself was basically blocked thanks to a huge christmas tree blocking the view. Answering up the door, she'd greet Kouta with open arms and even drag him into a brief hug. "Koutaaa!~" She'd back up a little and give him some room to breathe, flicking some snow off the top of his head, or a hood if he was wearing a jacket and pulling him inside. "Come on in. Don't want you stuck in the cold anymore. Journey not too rough? You er..." She'd lower her voice a little, not because her parents would make an issue of it, but incase he wanted some privacy on the matter. "Take your meds?" Yumi was wearing the costume on the left. her mother, when she appears, is wearing the one on the right. sleepinggeeks.files.wordpress.com/2015/12/steins-gate-christmas.jpg?w=816

It had been the first selfie that Kouta ever bothered to take, too. It felt weird to take it himself, even more so with someone else. Kouta didn't feel like the attractive type that should be out there, taking selfies of himself as if he's somehow deserving of being pictured, like nature is, like models or cosplayers are. Like cosplayers in nature are. Still, Yumi was forward with it and Kouta ain't one to ever say no to a friend's request of that nature, so he went along with it, taking a selfie that made him feel surprisingly awkward when looking at it, like it still wasn't real and he really did not belong next to her.
More importantly. Screw it, MUCH more importantly.
There were things to do today. Business to do, since Yumi had invited him for a Christmas dinner at her house with her parents, where he'd be taking a family picture of them all. Kouta agreed to do it for free even though Yumi was quite adamant in paying him, making it very clear that he just wanted to be fed as much as he desired. His argument was pretty simple: with the amount of food that he ate per meal, he'd already be quite the financial drain by the time he'd leave their house to go back to the dorms. Half jokingly, half very serious. The boy's metabolism is relentless thanks to his quirk and all the training he puts himself through, he needed those calories.
"Man.. I'm gonna meet her family. It's so weird, I never actually got to meet a whole family. Wonder if her parents will like me." Kouta muttered to himself while hopping right out of the bus, completely dressed in the snuggliest stuff he had at home, ranging from several shirts and one very thick jacket that kept him warm, his white wool gloves, his surprisingly adorable pair of boots and bear-styled ear warmers.
Her house sure looked.. well off, to be honest. Nothing too big or rich, like going to visit a friend and finding out that they live in a mega mansion, but it sure was better than what Kouta was accustomed to. As long as he kept his wits about him, he'd totally nail this visit, since he also took his meds before coming. No extra doses, just the stuff he already had to take. He'd be just fine and no major anxieties to haunt him, confident enough that he didn't even take too long before he actually knocked at the door!
"Hi, Yuuu-MIII!?" What sort of get-up was that!? Not only was it skimpy, but it was at the wrong time of the year for this, not in this cold! He even felt bad about accepting the hug, out of fear that his clothing would completely freeze her over. "Nah, the journey was fine.. and I did take my meds! No extra dose tho, I'm used to you now." The young boy assured her happily, not figuring that she might take it as being used to her energy, when he just meant being used to her in general. Because she was a girl. She probably knew that by now, he was never really private or attempted to hide his anxiety of girls, specially those stronger than him.
"So.. the food. Is it here yet, because I'm starving!" Asked the hungry boy right ahead, being quick to take off his jacket and his boots so that he wouldn't dirty anything, also because the house was actually quite warm once the door was closed. Explains how Yumi could handle being in that clothing at this time of the year. Still, he didn't take anything else off, being more than comfy in what he had.

Seeing Kouta at the door, Yumi blinked a little in surprise as he seemed to slip up weirdly on saying her name, tipping her head to the side and resting a hand on her hip with the other holding the door open as he seemed to be looking her over. She’d look down over herself, tugging lightly at the edge of the red and white fluff shorts to make sure she wasn’t exposing anything. She’d made these the other day as a custom fit so they should definitely fit fine, and with the warmth of her house at her back, she didn’t even feel too cold, so the odd little reaction he’d had certainly seemed…well, odd, to say the very least. “I got something on me? I was helping cook before but I was wearing an apron…” She’d twist herself about, trying to get a better look over herself, inadvertently tightening her stomache muscles for a brief moment as she twisted about.
Of course, oblivious to it or not, she wasn’t gonna tease him out in the cold forever and stepped to the side so that he could come in, stepping behind him and gently holding his shoulders as she lead him inside from behind, walking through a simple hall space after letting him take off his shoes and put on the guest slippers, guiding him deeper inside towards the living space. While the architecture was a simple Japanese home, her mother’s European style meant the decoration and amenities were a little more homely, rather than the minimalist style of many Japanese households. “Good to hear on the meds…” She’d gently ruffle his hair from behind. “Sorry for the awkward question. You’d just about to meet my mom so…I don’t want her friendliness giving you a panic attack or anything…” She nervously scratched at her cheek, not even aware of Kouta’s fear of women in general at this stage.
“Oh the food’s almost ready. It’ll be dished out in just a moment so you’ll get a moment to get used to my mother before-“
“Kouta-kuuuun!~”
A chiming voice came the moment they stepped into the livingroom, and a young woman with vibrant red hair similar to Yumi’s own would all but leap up from the couch as she strode over to great herself to the young man who entered her home, stepping across in her own Christmas dress as she leaned over to take one of the young man’s hands in both of her own, shaking it up and down vigorously for a moment with an ecstatic smile. “Oh I was worried Yumi was just trying to turn down some carollers with how long she was taking at the door, but you don’t tend to get them so much here in Japan do you?~” She stuck out the tip of her tongue for a brief second with a playful expression before rearing back. Par Sonya and Yumi, the livingroom was mostly empty. It had two deeply cushioned couches and a throne-like single seater that was more aimed at the TV than any other seat, with a decorated Christmas tree in the corner of the room.
With the handshake mercifully ended, the woman reared back and rested a hand on her chest, with the other behind her back. She and Yumi were about the same height, with Sonya having an inch or two on he rdaughter at most, though to Kouta they were likely still quite tall. “I’m Sonya, I’m sure Yumi’s not forgotten to tell you about me hm?~” She gave her daughter a cheeky smirk, but Yumi did rapidly realize she hadn’t really prepared Kouta for this at all, gently facepalming. In truth she hadn’t even given Kouta her mother’s name so…from how young Sonya looked, it was kinda reasonable for Kouta to assume this was her sister instead…

Though he had to take a moment or two to recover from the show Yumi gave him without even knowing, his face almost beet red from the way that her stomach tightened thanks to her twirl, Kouta still felt pretty good about the entire situation, smiling and dismissing Yumi's apologies over something as silly as "being awkward" with her questions. After all, whatever could the mother of someone so sweet do to give the young boy a panic attack? He had gone through so much and put through equally as much shit, nothing a friendly mommy could do to him would break him.
Then Sonya came over to him, dressed very similarly to Yumi, looking VERY similar to Yumi (though apparently lacking the defined musculature), taking his hand and vigorously shaking it, the poor guy caught completely off guard, his face once again completely red from her overwhelming energy and strong presence. Sure, daughters often take after their mothers when their relationship is good, so Kouta had read, so it was to be expected that Yumi's mother would be quite the person as well, but this was honestly a tad too much for someone unprepared like him! "..She told me I was meeting her mom, yes." The boy sheepishly answered, not wanting to say that he was not told anything else about her, like how she was almost a matured, slightly taller carbon copy of her model-tier daughter, how she was somehow friendlier than Yumi or how forward she was with her guests.
It didn't put him off too much. Once the initial shock was gone, Kouta actually felt himself growing a bit warmer to the family, feeling like he could get used to this closeness and energy, a small smile showing on his face while he took a moment to stare into the living room, tapping his chin once or twice. "It's a great pleasure to meet you though, Ms. Sonya! I hope that I'm not intruding or an inconvenience!" The small, pink-haired boy gave her a respectful bow, wondering if he was actually treating her correctly. Sure, he automatically assumed that this was Yumi's mom because of her matured and slightly taller look, though she could just be the older sister. And he did say that he was told she was meeting her mom, so if she was actually the sister.. he might just want to bury himself six feet under so that no one ever sees his shameful self.

Sonya gave a clearly fake, but appalled gasp as she pulled back from the two kids in her livingroom doorway, a hand on her chest as she really played up the drama of the gesture as Kouta confirmed that all he knew was that he’d been told he was meeting Yumi’s mother, and Sonya seemed to be playing it up to the max how this seemed to offend her in some way. “My oh my. You bring a child up for a good 16 years of her life, she leaves you for 2 and then suddenly… “ She gave off a dramatic sniffle, lifting one arm to hold herself as she other raised a hand to her eyes pretending to wipe away a tear. “It’s like… s-she doesn’t even care about you anymore… n-not even daring to tell her friends about you…!” She gave another whimpering little sniffle just as Yumi stepped forward.
“Mooooom…” She groaned, falling forward into her mom and wrapping her arms around the similarly curved woman, Sonya giggling heartily and wrapping her arms around Yumi under her own.
“Oh come now dear let me have a little bit of fuuuuun. Besides, if you weren’t going to tell him about us the very least you could have done is told him I’m your sister. Offer your mother a bit of flattery why don’t you?~”
The two pulled back from eachother, Sonya with a hand over her chest and once again a ‘appalled’ look but clearly far more on the playful end this time, while Yumi rolled her eyes and turned her mother around, walking her deeper into the livingroom with a shake of her head. “You’re impossible sometimes Mom.”
Sonya giggled mostly to herself, waving over her shoulder with a playful tone in her as Yumi pushed her down the walk to the first couch. “Oh don’t be silly Kouta dear. You’re here to take the pictures aren’t you? Why would you be an inconvenience?”
With the sound of a door closing a third face entered the room. Far more mature though solidly in the mid 30s range, maybe early 40s if he looked really good for his age but certainly seeming a fair bit older than the parent Kouta had already been introduced to, Yumi’s dad entering the room and taking off his oven mits. “Well the meats done but the oven’s turned low so it’s gonna stay warm if we wanna wait for-“ He paused, his eyes perusing the room and spotting the boy with the pink hair across the room, looking him up and down as he started to remove the apron with the words ‘My knife is the knife that’ll cut the turkey’ written on it in Gurren lagan font. “Oh is this the kid?”
Sonya nodded along with a chipper express and patted the spot on the couch beside her, but as the Dad seemed to move to the single seater, and Sonya was looking at Kouta, it was clear enough that she was inviting Kouta to come sit beside her. “Don’t worry about dinner we can take the pictures first and then chow down while it’s still warm, but why don’t you make yourself comfortable first dear?~” She’d lean back on the arm of the couch with a cheeky expression as she shot Kouta a playful look. “Come here and tell me all about how my darling little angel’s been at school.~ She hasn’t been wasting alllll her time on this little hobby of hers has she?~”
“Mom i-“ Yumi chuckled, clearly not upset by that comment but her mother interrupted.
“Sorry dear, I know, but I still wanna hear about your school life from someone other than yourself for a change.~”

The dynamic between mom and daughter that Sonya and Yumi had was actually quite a warm, somehow funny one. Sonya was clearly much looser and theatrical in her act, playing the super sad, heartbroken role of the mother who was just betrayed by her beloved child. Kouta knew, from the start of course, that this was all just her playing around, something that made him smile and pucker up from holding back his laughter, unwilling to fluster Yumi further than what she was already, not wanting to get scolded by her. It was funny though, it was, after all, not easy to catch Yumi off guard! "I think being a mom fits you better, Ms. Sonya!" --Didn't say another thing, really because he couldn't pin the reason why he thought that. It was likely a mixture of a lot more than just one factor - her personality, her figure, attitude around Yumi and around him. It didn't strike him as an older sister, but a friendly mommy. Like Kouta's mommy back at the orphanage. Man, now he wanted to go hug his mom.
"I mean, I'm aware of the emotional baggage I can be. I'm sure Yumi warned you about it already." The perceptive Kouta confessed, aware that Yumi was no blind fool and neither was she insensitive or not accommodating. He was sure that she knew that not everything was right with him, since he had mentioned his taking of meds, the problems that made him take those meds, among other things. He also knew that someone as gentle and thoughtful as her would surely have told them about it, so that they wouldn't put him in any uncomfortable or bad situations. His fear was all based in the possible fact that he might have forced them to act in a way that isn't strictly their own way of acting. "If you're sure, though, I won't question it!"
The father came in by now and Kouta felt a little bit more apprehensive with him. Not scared or feeling like he was a bad man, but one that might just understand the baggage that Kouta was better than some others. Or it might just be those slightly tired, serious eyes and deep voice. That paranoia that if someone is not acting friendly and excited with him meaning that he's boring company and is just being a drag on them. Thankfully, Sonya asked him something that brought his focus to something more fun. As he sat down next to her, still feeling quite awkward around the santa-dressed Yumi and Sonya, the answer he was to give may not be the most.. preferable for Yumi.
"Well, no. She has friends and people do like and admire her personality and strength, I specifically admire how non-judgemental she is, how she is willing to understand my unusual habits and different needs.
..Though I've noticed that she is clearly in denial about this guy called Red that she clearly likes but refuses to come clear with it, even though everyone under the sun knows that she adores him more than the air she breathes." That second part was a bit long-winded in its introduction, one that gave Yumi an ample window of time to dash in and stop him from saying too much and just bring a wave of embarrassment and teasing from mother dearest.
