The brunette's face turned pensive at the other's reminder of the purpose of internships. Sure, it was a chance to see how a hero fought closely and personally, but it was entirely true that it was also a chance to experience heroism herself! That said... Her stomach turned slightly. She had already experienced heroism once. Her body still held the wounds of it! A fight for life was not the battle she loved! But wiping the misgivings from her face, she would return to her thoughts on the matter. "Yeah, but if you're learning from a hero one on one, it'd be better to learn from someone who fights like you do, right? I can't mimic Red Horn's style, so trying to use her as my role model would have the opposite effect, yanno?" A straightforward, head-on fighter like Red Horn... Just wasn't Shouko's style! She couldn't rely on her body to take everything a villain threw head on, putting the civilians behind her... Her method would have to be more about shifting the path of those attacks, so that they only grazed her, and were pushed away from the people she had to protect!
The girl's growth was quite evident in her mentality. The Shouko who had just joined UA would never have considered how to factor protecting the people behind her into her style.
However, the next topic caused the girl to let out a rare sigh. It was a weakness she had hardly admitted to anyone before, so it was no surprise that Katayacchi was unaware of it! "If only that were the case!" The girl admitted in despair. "Rock doesn't change that easily, you know! It's not like a muscle at all! It's more like a horn! It may grow, and it's getting denser over time, but that's based on development and not training!" She unleashed her bitterness. It wasn't that her quirk didn't grow. It was that she couldn't control it's growth. Even in training, the most she could do was influence it to sprout on her arms, but even that... "And I know it doesn't look like it, but I've hit a pretty careful balance, you know? Between my battle dress and my clubs, my body is pretty much at its limit for carrying weight! It's not that I can't make bigger clubs, but that it would be more of a hindrance than a help." She explained calmly. It wasn't that she was complaining about her limits- She had already long since acknowledged where they lay, and chose to train around them. "The human body can only get so strong, you know. I'm not Takkicchi or Kirk-senpai whose quirks let them develop muscles beyond the human norm. Even if I could strengthen my quirk manually... It might not be a good thing. Most of my rock's strength comes from its increasing density, so... If it keeps growing faster than I do, it'll be too heavy to fight how I want!" Clearly she had thought about this before.
In the end, it came down to a simple problem. Her quirk wasn't something she controlled, it was something she used. Any advantage she gained from it was from the weight it provided, and the layer of stone armor. As such, rather than reinforcing it, she wanted to optimize her usage of it, by perfecting her martial technique!
