It was an odd sensation, to be here in this place all by herself. In the wake of the events of that fateful night where the raids on the Shinagawa Auction had unfolded, Elise had been forced to make her share of sacrifices and decisions. The mission might have been a success, but in Elise's opinion, the cost of the success had been too much. She had been forced to experience a second loss, and now even had to lie low for a while to avoid drawing unwanted attention. She knew her mentor, the principal had meant well, but in the end, it still felt odd to no longer be with the hero academy. Instead Elise had temporarily taken shelter at a small apartment in the suburbs of Musutafu. It was property of her parents, a residence she had been allowed to borrow as a means of staying in Musutafu so she was not always forced to travel back and forth between Tokyo and Musutafu to see Tetsuko. But this apartment, it felt different than the room she shared with her beloved knight. It felt empty and cold, and Elise just couldn't get used to that.
Perhaps it was for that reason she had called a friend over, having send Kenshin a message to his phone inviting him over, it was a simple message really. But in the meanwhile, till his arrival, she would continue to tinker diligently in her room with a certain invention she had been preparing...

Kenshin was still very bitter with not being able to help the others at Shinagawa. Just like with Tokyo5, his mother had caught wind of his plan to go, and promptly put a stop to it. And well, with how scarily strict the woman could be, Kenshin was not about to argue with her. Considering the punishment she had put him through after sneaking out of the house to go help with the Haruuhi rescue all those months ago, Kenshin really did not want to get grounded again. So for now, he would comply. But not being able to go do good, not being able to go out and take action, it was too much for the boy to bear. What was he supposed to do, just sit back and do nothing while the others get to fight? That wasn't fair! He wanted to be out helping people, stopping criminals, making an actual difference. But no, he was stuck with boring homework assignments. Not like it mattered, since he had almost all As and a single B plus. Fuck, I want to go do something fun. Anything is better than being cooped up here doing jack shit.Occasionally, the universe did end up throwing the boy an occasional bone or two. In this case, it was a message on his phone. Kenshin was intrigued. Elise? I wonder why she would want to invite me over? Still, who could say no to a friend? So after showing the message to his mother and repeatedly assuring her that Elise was NOT one of his vigilante buddies and that he would of course be back before his curfew, Kenshin put on his jacket, followed his armored father to the car, and had a rather quiet drive all the way to Musutafu. It was a shame that he lived in Tokyo with all the places that he visited that was in Musutafu. The Gym, Shien's Dojo, the beach, the shopping district where he bought his brother all of his tokusatsu action figures. Several of his friends were here as well. Still, it made no difference. To Kenshin, no distance was too great to see a friend. So what if he always had to take an hour or so ride via train or car? To him, it was always worth it. After being dropped off to the correct address and waving to his father as he drove off, Kenshin walked over to the door and knocked. | Word count: 411

It was rather fortunate that Kenshin was quite willing to accept her invitation, and when the bell of the intercom rang Elise was quick to get out of her seat and approach the device on the wall. She knew all too well she had to be careful, but a peek through the camera showed it was Kenshin, and soon her voice resounded from the intercom. "I'll open up in a moment Kenshin~" and with a soft click sound the door opened to the lobby, and from the staircase up above he could see a familiar shade of pink locks underneath a large hoodie. "Over here~" Elise called out to him, waiting for Kenshin to climb the staircase and once they were inside and she locked the door behind him, she pulled off the hoodie and smiled kindly at him.
"It is good to see you again Kenshin~" Elise mused in greeting, a gentle pat on his shoulder following as she gestured for him to follow her further inside. "Thank you for accepting my invitation~ To be honest, I don't really know anyone else I could rely on in a time like this." She sighed softly while walking into the living room of the appartment. "Do you want something to drink?" As she waited for him to answer her, she approached the fridge, pulling out a bottle of apple juice for herself, and if Kenshin had said anything on her offer, would have given him a drink also, after which she would take a seat on one of the sofas, a small table between it and another sofa which was formed in a U-formation. "Still feels awkward, no longer being at U.A..." She sighed briefly and shook her head lightly.
"Say Kenshin, you're pretty strong, but never enrolled into the hero academy. Why exactly is that?" She tilted her head slightly to the side in confusion as she continued. "You look like the kind of guy who would fit with someone like Tetsu~ strong, kind, honorable and just." She smiled quietly at him, seemingly complimenting him. "But sadly during my time there I realized the definition of a hero has become rather broad in the eyes of society... and that is not to mention about the other problem that I recently discovered."
She leaned back into the sofa and closed her eyes. "Which led me to be forced to lie low here, away from my beloved Tetsu... it's all so frustrating..."

After hearing Elise answer and letting him inside, Kenshin smiled and lowered his head in a polite bow as he greeted her. "Hi! Good to see you again as well, Elise." Last time he had seen her, she had thrown a surprise birthday party for Tetsuko. That was certainly an interesting time. "A glass of water, please. Thanks." But pretty soon, it would become clear that this meeting would not be like the last. As Kenshin took a sip of water, hearing what Elise just said was almost enough to make him spit out his drink. Thankfully, he just barely avoided doing so, but it was close. "Wait, what?" Elise was no longer a part of U.A.? "What happened? If you want to talk about it, that is." Kenshin did not want to press the matter if Elise did not want to have that conversation. But the boy was curious. Was that why Elise asked him to come? Well if she wanted to talk about it, he was here to listen. And if she did not, that was fine too. Kenshin almost sighed loudly once Elise asked him why he never enrolled into the hero academy. "Yeah, that's a long story. Well, it's not like I never considered enrolling. I actually did one time, only to never hear back from the school. Then several months later, I found out that my application was never sent in the first place." The boy chuckled as he facepalmed. "That was pretty stupid. I guess I could have just tried again, make sure the thing actually reaches its destination this time." Sure, things sounded very simple and straightforward when said aloud like that. But of course, things were not that simple. "The thing is though, that I honestly don't know if such a path is right for me. I mean at the end of the day, all I want is to do as much good as I can. Protect whoever I can and ensure that villain scum don't get away with their various injustices. But in all honesty, I just can't fully trust the government. And while I'm not exactly the type to completely disregard rules, if I'm ever in a position where I have to choose between the law and doing the right thing, well let's just say I'd kick ass first and ask questions later. Not exactly the type of person people would want to have become a full-fledged hero, I would imagine. But yeah, I can't just sit back and let others take care of a problem if at that moment I could do something to help. If something bad ever did happen because I did nothing, and I could have easily prevented it, the regret I'd feel would completely destroy me."Kenshin knew that laws existed for a reason. And maintaining order was vital. After all, how could people reliably stay safe amidst anarchy and chaos? In that sense, he could definitely see the similarities he and Tetsuko shared. But still, there was no way that Kenshin could just 100 percent place his faith on the law. Some people there just could not be trusted. After all, corruption within the government was a thing. He had often seen those corrupt cops accept bribes from the wealthier criminals. Sure not every cop was like that, but the fact that there were those like that to begin with could not be ignored or denied. But more importantly, Kenshin could not just do nothing if and when a crime occured. Imagine if he had not come to Kumoko's aid that day at the park when she was attacked by those two quirkist thugs. What were he and G supposed to do, just call the cops or a hero and wait for help to arrive while the poor girl was being terrorized? By the time the police would have shown up, it would have been far too late. The spider-headed girl would have been badly injured, if not worse. The goons were armed, after all. But enough of that. Kenshin was here because Elise invited him over. So he would want to hear out whatever she had to say. And oh boy, the things she did say were enough to make Kenshin raise an eyebrow in curiosity and concern. Problem? Being forced to lie low? Just what had happened to Elise? | Word count: 727

Elise smiled briefly at Kenshin's greeting, it always was pleasant to meet a friend again, and in those troubled times she had those experiences way less than she actually liked. As she filled a glass with water for Kenshin, it took her a bit to figure out the right way to approach it. Kenshin's reaction was anticipated, but when he decided to explain more about the reasoning behind why he had never enrolled, she started to understand she had made the right choice by talking to Kenshin about it.
Certainly, the initial explanation was amusing, but when the serious side of his answer came, she nodded her head lightly in agreement. "I understand entirely what you mean." Elise began, taking a brief sip from her glass of apple juice, after which she continued speaking. "During my time at the hero academy, I was forced to realize just how flawed the current hero program is. Take for example the extremely competitive nature of it? Students are more blinded by this search for more power, believing that strength is the most important factor of what makes you a hero. In their search for power they become blind to what is truly important. The virtues and responsibilities that true heroism carry with it." She sighed for a moment, shaking her head slightly as she spoke, her tone clearly betraying the hint of disappointment in her voice. "If anything, this program is training glorified peacekeepers, and only a few remember the importance of what a hero truly is meant to be."
She placed her glass back on the table, and soon continued her explanation. "However, that isn't the sole problem about the program. It is also found in the nature of the laws, the regulations forced upon us. Certainly, there are some things that should never be done, but at the same time... Take for example this regulation that says every villain has to be taken into captivity, to be judged by a court at a later timer? That certainly did us wonders when the likes of Thunder Shock and Abbadon just walk out of their imprisonment, now terrorizing Japan once more as if nothing changed. I just... struggle with this idea of letting such dangerous villains be given an opportunity to just continue their reign of evil."
She smiled weakly at Kenshin, nodding her head slightly at his words. "Sometimes I feel that certain Vigilantes who stick to their creeds, are more 'hero' than the pro-heroes are..." Yet there was another matter that required an explanation also. "About why I left the school... I shouldn't need to tell this, but make sure not a single person learns about what I'm about to tell you."
She leaned a bit forward, taking a deep breath as she decided on where to start her story. "Before my departure I used to be the head of the school's disciplinary committee and worked directly under a certain pro-hero, similar to a sidekick. You likely didn't hear much about him before, but his alias was 'Spymaster'. He was a pro-hero who the government used for more 'sensitive' and dangerous missions. Rescuing an important hostage, finding evidence of a villain group's involvement in certain matters. Simply said, he was a spy for the government, although in truth he was a shinobi."
She waited a bit for the news to sink in for Kenshin upon which she continued speaking. "As his apprentice, I was being trained to become his successor. Then last month, during the events in Shinagawa my master was given a mission. We were tasked with rescuing an engineer who was kidnapped during Semper Fi, and who the government believed to contain intel surrounding the villains responsible for the auctioned goods at Shinagawa. But something felt off to my master. Too little info, just a location where they would be keeping the hostage. As a precaution, he took me along..."
She reached for her glass, yet at the words that followed, he could likely notice the subtle shiver of her hand, she clearly was struggling with the memory. "Our infiltration was flawless, but as we rescued the hostage and found a laptop belonging to the villains, we were discovered by a mercenary, a villainous man who was had a personal feud with my master, the shinobi 'Taskmaster'. While my master covered my escape I escorted the hostage to safety, dropping him at a safe place under the protection of people I trust, but after that I ignored the orders of my master and returned to the place they were fighting at."
She took a shaky breath and spoke softly. "They were even-matched, but my master had seen an opportunity to try to defeat his opponent, and in an instinctive attempt to help my master I tried to restrain the Taskmaster... only to fall for a trap. He injected some poison into my slime, and for a short period I lost my ability to activate my quirk, but during that time he was able to deliver a lethal injury to my master, who used the last of his strength to restrain him... In the end, I was forced to kill the man, else I wouldn't have been talking to you right now."
Her head hung low, her hand balled up in a fist. "After my master died from his injuries I and my guardian, the Principal investigated the intel associated with the laptop, and discovered that Taskmaster was working for a crime organization called the Plutocracy, and... that an inside agent in the government leaked the details of Spymaster's mission... Do you understand why this problem is so severe Kenshin? Spymaster's missions were a highly classified secret. Meaning the villains have a spy among some of the most influential people in the government..."
She took another sip from her glass, thinking for a bit as she looked at Kenshin. "That is why I was forced to lie low, so that they wouldn't discover that Spymaster had an apprentice, who is aware of this phantom lurking in the government. Of course, you know me... I don't plan to sit idle, but for me to discover who this individual is, and force off their mask requires a lot of preparations, and the right people, which takes time..."

Elise was the UA student. Or former UA student, but the point was that she would know a hell of a lot more about what went on in that school compared to Kenshin. Which is why the boy could not help but feel saddened to hear that the hero program was flawed. He wanted to believe that a group of people who do good in the world, whether heroes or vigilantes, could work together and do far more good together than they ever could individually. It was why he joined the Storm Knights in the first place, and why he had seriously considered enrolling in UA in the past. But to hear the competitive nature of the school and how some students cared more about getting stronger and being the best than what was truly important: protecting the innocent, stopping crime, and maintaining peace. This really upset Kenshin. Now, he would be a huge hypocrite if he ever said that he never desired to grow stronger. Yes, he enjoyed fighting tough opponents. Yes, he craved more strength. But they were never the forefront of the reasons why he chose to fight criminals. They were but an afterthought compared to his desire to protect others, to carry on the mission that his parents had been forced to drop years ago, to stop villain scumbags from having their way. Is UA really filled with competitive students who care more about inflating their egos than doing the right thing? Is that what they think it means to be a hero? I wish Elise was just exaggerating, but I see no reason for her to do so.But there was of course far more to it than just that, so Kenshin continued to listen to Elise. The problem was not with UA, or at least not solely the school, but with the law itself. Of course there would be flaws there. With criminals like Thundershock, Abbadon, Crowley, and other assholes like them still running around, the law's way of punishing criminals like these seemed horrifically tame. Just imprison them? What good would that do? Thunder had broken out, Abbadon had broken out, and while Lady Lavande was currently in prison, Kenshin had a feeling that she was probably going to find a way to break out too. This was just crazy! Now, Kenshin was not a big fan of murdering criminals, or well anyone for that matter. But he could see the arguments being made as to why the death penalty wasn't such a bad thing for the more extreme cases. The point was that as of right now, there was a terrible lack of efficient ways of detaining criminals and making sure that they actually could not escape their confinement. But just what was the answer? Sadly, Kenshin did not know. He just hoped that someone could figure it out. Because things could not continue the way it was right now. Something needed to be done. Kenshin nodded in agreement when Elise told him that certain vigilantes were more 'hero' than pro-heroes. Perhaps it was his bias as a vigilante here, but he could absolutely notice it. However, Kenshin said nothing yet, as he wanted to let Elise finish what she was saying. And she definitely had more to say, with what came next requiring her to tell the boy not to let anyone else learn about what she was about to tell him. "Of course!" Kenshin was not one to spill secrets like that. Elise's words were safe with him. So she was head of the school's disciplinary committee. That did not surprise Kenshin. But what did was the fact that she worked under a pro-hero who was essentially a shinobi. Holy shit, that's awesome! But now was not the time to imagine Elise in a ninja outfit, as funny as the thought was. He was curious about just what kind of work Elise did under this Spymaster guy. Of course Kenshin never heard of him. Then again, the guy would not be that good of a shinobi if he was well-known. Having one's identity known to many seemed counter-intuitive for a ninja's purpose of stealth and remaining in the shadows. So this Spymaster must have been at least pretty good if Kenshin had to take a guess. So Elise was training to become his successor? That seemed pretty awesome! But Kenshin continued to listen silently, not wanting to interrupt until she was done. There was a mission. Kenshin had a feeling that something must have gone horribly wrong here. Elise's words, the way she spoke, her gestures. As she continued telling him what had happened, that suspicion was confirmed. A villain had found them, and as Spymaster fought off Taskmaster (these names sure were similar), Elise was able to escape with the hostage. But after dropping off the hostage, Elise had ignored orders and went back. Kenshin could probably understand why Elise decided to go back to her sensei. The boy would probably have done the same if he were in that situation. But then that's when Elise said it. She had fallen for the villain's trap as she tried to help her master, and then the bastard deliver a lethal blow to her master. And the shinobi used the last of his strength to restrain the villain long enough for Elise to kill him before he could kill her. "Damn." Kenshin could not help but say it. But seriously, the things this poor girl went through! If the boy were a hugger, then perhaps he would have tried to console Elise with one. But nah, he was far too awkward for that. Plus, Elise had more to say. As if having to kill the guy who killed her master wasn't already bad enough for Elise, she then figured out that the bastard worked for a criminal organization. And this Plutocracy apparently had an inside man... "Oh shit..." It was not hard to put two and two together. There was a spy within the government, one who was leaking shit for the villains to freely use. And as Elise put it, this was why she now needed to lay low. If those bastards had intel on Spymaster, then Elise would need to hide to make sure that her role as the shinobi's apprentice wasn't discovered. And she planned on going after this phantom, to find out who the mole is. But of course, preparations needed to be made first. "This... this is certainly a lot to process." Understatement of the century. "Holy shit, where do I even begin? Elise, are you alright? Because damn, I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through all of that." Words could not do this justice. Kenshin felt bad. He could not just listen to everything Elise just said and then do nothing about it! "Is there anything I can do to help you out?" | Word count: 1151

Indeed, it was tragic that the hero program was so flawed. Even Elise initially felt a mixture of frustration and sorrow when she had learned about the true nature of the next generation of 'heroes'. It was for that reason that Elise grown to compare them to glorified peacekeepers rather than heroes. Quite a fair amount of the students didn't have the right mindset of a hero, no they didn't even deserve to be called heroes. Elise sighed audibly as she spoke. "It is a sad truth, but the hero program has commercialized the role of a hero. If you ask what a hero truly is, a majority of the students won't be able to give you a satisfactory response. They consider their strength and popularity the most important things, and helping people is merely an afterthought, a pleasant consequence of their work." She smiled sorrowfully at the words she spoke. "That is why I worry about people like Tetsu, those who try to uphold the virtues of heroism. It is a noble endeavor, to try to follow that ideal, but it is also dangerous. Villains often have no honor, they will do everything they can to exploit you, and a noble hero like Tetsu her virtues would be turned against her. That is why I'm not a hero, the reason I took the path of a shinobi. I want my beloved knight to stand in the light, and leave those dark deeds to me to handle. And yet, after this mission I can't help but worry..."
She paused, looking straight into Kenshin's eyes. "Have you... ever killed someone Kenshin? It is a terrifying sensation. The knowledge that once you do the act, you will end a person's existence. That person might be evil, the worst scum among villains but often it has consequences. You might have made a family lose their father, or disturbed the chain of command in a crime syndicate, just for his replacement to become worse. The act of killing someone is a difficult burden to bear, a responsibility that can crush you."
She raised a hand upwards, looking at it briefly as she spoke softly. "But what terrifies me the most is the lingering revelation. The fact that even knowing this consequence, despite this burden that fills me with guilt and regret, I know my body wouldn't hesitate to claim another life if it meant protecting myself or Tetsu. How can such a person possibly be considered a hero?"
Indeed, it seemed Kenshin shared her thought, judging from his expression when they discussed the law and the fundamental problem that was found in the treatment villains received. "I worry at times like this, the fact the government's prisons clearly aren't meant to handle issues like this, either there needs to be a specialized facility to imprison those demons, or we need to get rid of them once they are beaten. But we can't allow more innocent people to die because the government is incapable of dealing with this threat"
Kenshin's promise to not say a word was reassuring as she continued to explain the events that had transpired that night during the events at Shinagawa.
Elise nodded her head somberly. "Indeed, it still feels like a horrible nightmare that I am waiting to wake up from." However, Kenshin's desire to help her made Elise smile briefly at him. "I am not certain yet to be honest. Currently my network is too small to catch this traitor. If I want to do this I need to expand my influence. I already am taking some precautions, for example I am preparing to meet a member of Nakano's Police Department, hoping to gain an ally within their ranks, and I been trying to figure out a method to gain a foot inside the door of the government so I can peek inside their own ranks. With the help of Tetsu and the U.A Principal I can be sure they will notice any awkward movements among the pro heroes, but... unfortunately I don't really have any contact among the vigilantes."
Elise went quiet for a moment, a hand raised to her chin as she mused softly. "It is only reasonable to assume the Plutocracy tried to get someone hidden among them, after all heroes aren't their only enemy. I feel there might be a bit of a network on their side, simply said someone trying to whisper intel from the vigilantes their activities into the ears of the villains. Take for example the rescue efforts of Haru-chan, I heard all the villains got away from a raid organized by some vigilantes, doesn't that strike you as odd?" She shook her head lightly as she continued.
"But I can't join their ranks myself, that would be too obvious. I need to meet someone they trust, someone they know and consider their ally. Only then can I start weaving my own trap to track down this traitor that led to my master's death. After all, this type of work is the duty of the one called Spymaster."
She reached with a hand for her glass of apple juice, taking a little sip from it. "But like I said, a task like this requires time and careful preparations. I'd likely have only a single chance to catch him, and if I'm wrong about his identity, it would be a total bust, the spy would be alerted and the consequences severe to say the least. In all honesty, it terrifies me Kenshin, even now I don't understand how someone like me got involved in this mess."
She smiled sorrowfully, a hand raising to the back of her neck as she chuckled weakly. "Then again, you know me well enough, I'm not the type to sit idle when I learned about something like this. Tetsu might be in danger someday if this spy continues their work, and whether it's revenge or justice, that traitor has to pay for his treason. I won't allow anyone else to die like my master did..."

Yes, Kenshin understood completely what Elise was saying. True heroism was about helping others, putting their needs above one's own. A true hero was selfless. So in the boy's mind, those who only cared about strength for its own sake or being famous or rich did not deserve to take the title of 'hero' at all. But unfortunately, while heroes had a sense of honor, villains did not. Elise was right to worry about Tetsuko, someone who was no doubt one of the most honorable people Kenshin had met. It was natural for Elise to worry about criminal scum taking advantage of Tetsuko's honor. Hell, Kenshin's mother had the same exact worry regarding him, often reminding the boy not to expect the criminals he fought to show the same honor and respect he did. And it was for that reason that Elise had chosen the path of the shinobi rather than that of heroism. So that she could do what Tetsuko's honor would forbid the girl from ever doing. To become the shadow to Tetsuko's light. The thought of that made Kenshin smile. No doubt the two were an excellent team. But then Elise's next words wiped out all traces of that smile. Has he ever killed someone? Well, no. The boy shook his head. "I haven't had to yet. And I never will if I can help it." But would he be forced to one day? Would he adamantly refuse to take another person's life? Or would circumstances force his hand? It was just like the very first Storm Knights meeting, when he was asked if he would be able to kill Thunder Shock should the opportunity ever present itself. On one hand, killing went against everything he believed in and stood for. He could never kill, not even the scummiest of scum. But on the other hand, there were those far too dangerous to be kept alive. Thunder and Abbadon had both proven that prison is not a solution for containing every criminal. Did those criminals deserve to die? Would Kenshin be able to kill them if it meant ensuring peace? Would not killing them if he had the opportunity to do so just lead to regret if someone else died because he chose to not get his hands dirty? This was far too painful and confusing to think about. But still, Kenshin was determined to hear out everything Elise had to say. He listened to her admit that it was terrifying to know that despite the burden of guilt and regret she was filled with, she knew that she would kill again if it meant protecting herself or Tetsuko. Upon asking how such a person could possibly be considered a hero, Kenshin remained silent for a moment, thinking about his answer before giving it to Elise. "I'm not going to pretend that it's easy to relate to what you're going through. It's not. I will probably never be able to fully grasp the extent of the burden that you're suffering right now. Unless I'm unlucky enough to ever find myself in a similar circumstance to yours, which I'm honestly hoping will never happen. And perhaps murder does take away the right to call yourself a hero. But that doesn't matter to me! To me, you're not a murderer, Elise, despite having killed someone. There's a difference between wanting to kill and having no choice but to kill. Embracing the darkness versus having to tread inside it due to necessity. It is that difference that determines whether or not someone is a villain. And even if someone tells you that you're not a hero, even if you yourself believe you're not a hero, I can say with absolute certainty that you're definitely no villain. And even without counting the fact that Tetsuko is by your side, I know that you never will be one. And maybe it's just me, but your intentions are good enough for me to consider you a hero anyway."Yeah, cheering people up from such dark thoughts and feelings was not the boy's forte. But still, he wanted to try anyway. If he could try to remove some of that burden, even a little bit, Kenshin would of course do whatever he could to help. As he continued listening to Elise, Kenshin nodded. He agreed that something had to be done. Regular prisons were not cutting it for quirked villains. No, either the government needed to step up and make prisons that could contain these demons, or the demons would need to die or be gone in such a way that they could never threaten anyone's safety ever again. Because things could not continue the way they are right now. No more innocents could suffer at the hands of these scumbags. As much as Kenshin disliked the idea of being forced to kill in order to terminate a threat, if that was the only course of action that was actually effective, then so be it. Hopefully, it would not have to come to that. But of course, not everything went according to plan. Speaking of plan, it was good to hear that Elise was already working on one. She needed to expand her influence, since her network was currently too small to catch the traitor. She planned on meeting with a member of Nakano's Police Department, gain an ally from within their ranks, and then work from there. Kenshin was impressed by how thorough Elise's planning was. He had faith that she would succeed, that it was only a matter of time before the scumbag was found. Upon mentioning that she unfortunately did not have a contact among the vigilantes, Kenshin smiled. "I wouldn't be so sure about that, Elise. Let's just say that I know some people." Okay, most of the time, Kenshin would not be one to out himself as a vigilante so easily, or even hint at it at all. But Elise was someone he felt that he could trust to keep that secret. Besides, he had told Tetsuko in the past. He was honestly surprised that Elise did not learn that from her already. It was honestly very touching that the honorable girl had kept her word. Or maybe it never came up. Who knew? But Elise did bring up a good point. If there was a traitor among the heroes, would it really be so farfetched to assume that the same applied to the vigilantes? That really was worrying. Was there a traitor among the Storm Knights? Or were they safe? It was hard to know. "I'll keep an eye out in case there is someone shady trying to hide among the vigilantes and leaking shit to the enemy. I'll do so without drawing any attention. The instant I learn anything that could help you, I'll let you know right away. Just leave it to me." Kenshin then smirked. "And if I get caught and attacked for trying to snoop around? Well don't worry, I can take care of myself." Kenshin was not really one who liked to brag. But despite not caring about insignificant and mundane things such as ranks, he was not considered number two vigilante for nothing. But still, he did hope that whoever the spy was, that they would not catch on. As Elise put it, she only had a single shot at nailing the bastard. One wrong move, and the prick would slip away, and the consequences would most likely be dire. There could not be any mistakes. But still, despite the terrifying circumstance Elise found herself in, she was determined to see this mission through, to not let the spy get away with this. Kenshin smiled and nodded in approval. He really admired how Elise was similar to him in the sense that she was not the type to just sit and do nothing. "Good. Find that traitorous scumbag and kick their ass. I know if anyone is capable of pulling it off, it's you. And you won't be alone. You have Tetsuko, of course. And I'll do everything I can to help you too." | Word count: 1352
