The secluded spot that Yasashi had managed to secure for himself was by far one of his favorites. A little cubby of a inlet among the various small spots along the Tokyo coastline. He'd come here before as a boy, a place where he hid from predatory neighbors and bullies his age. Now he was older, and he had a different use for this place. To stretch his quirk and enjoy some quiet time to himself.
There were rules, of course, about unsupervised quirk use. However Yasashi had found that there were ways to experiment with his quirk and not bend the rules too far. He smiled contentedly at his latest project, experimenting with the manual dexterity and number of the skeletal hands he could create. Right now he had three working in tandem on his favorite single grill, one was adding spices while the other two were maintaining the heat and flipping the small slices of beef he had thrown on.
Yasashi, for his part, was reclining against the steep rocky wall of his favorite spot. He had a whole cooler of various small foods and snacks as well as several bottles of water. It was a lazy saturday and he had no interest in going anywhere. Certainly he could spend time with his friends at school or maybe go visit his family, but right now he had time alone. One of the skeletal hands flipped a piece of meat carefully, he barely had to concentrate these days. It was nice.
The mountain of a boy slid down a bit to lay on his back, resting his skin against sand. He let out a sigh; the quiet was nice, he supposed, but now that he was here he kind of missed the sound of people talking.
"Should have brought a radio... or a book..." He muttered.

A beach, a public space, a spot where she could feel like she didn't have to worry about being harrassed by the police for once. Akari Himura, the girl constantly on the run from the police. The girl that had no hope of finding a home, no hope of attaining her dreams, no hope of living past the age of twenty one if things continued like this, hell, she might not even make it to sixteen if she didn't get a change of living situation, if you could call what she did was living.
But that wasn't important right now. She had with her her only two earthly possessions, that fire fighter's jacket with its own custom coloration that she liked to wear everywhere, and a laminated and protected trading card of a fire quirk fire fighting super hero. It was autographed, and she cherished it.
She wanted to enjoy a walk ont he beach, besides, the smell of coean water cleaning her body and the public showers were one of the few places she could take a bath without people getting mad at her, so, she regularly came to the beach, to see if she could find any recyclables she could sell, or any leftover things people had dropped. She looked really out of place though. Why was a girl her age out of school? Why was she homeless? Why did no one try to help her? Because she freaked out and pushed most people away out of some severe and trained trust issues she had.
Akari smelled something on the air, food, grilling food. She hadn't eaten in a few days. The girl was approaching slowly at first, but sped up her pace as she smelled the food truly instead of it just being in her head for once. As she snuck up on that hiding spot that the UA student had, in her hand she had some yen. "E-excuse--um, excuse me." SHe said meekly while holding out some of the hard earned money she begged for, "Can I, buy some of that from you?" The girl asked sheepishly.

The skeletal hands went through another round of flips and spicing. Yasashi had almost dozed off and only the enticing smell of food was keeping him awake. He shook his head, righting his senses and squinted down at the hands as they worked on the meal in silence. Each of them taking turns performing their task until he could tell that the meat was cooked through.
As if by the very fact that the meal had been completed, a voice called out to him from just a few feet away. He jumped a little, startled, but managed to calm himself with just a quick breath and a shake of his head. He turned and looked down at the waif of a thing that was standing just a few feet away, her hand outstreched, a smidgeon of money laying on her palm.
Yasashi's usual cheery demeanor faded for a moment as he took her in. Being someone who spent most of their time studying nutrition to better handle his own quirk, he knew better than most people his age what he was looking at. He only needed one look. His expression relaxed and a crinkle formed at the edge of his eyes followed by a calm smile. He'd never seen it this bad before but he'd seen it on the street while he was volunteering at the food lines.
"Put that away," Yasashi said, releasing the small amount of concentration it took to maintain the skeletal hands which caused them to collapse and fade into nothing. All that was left were a few indents in the sand and a spatula that would need some cleaning. Yasashi walked over to the grill and sat down next to it, gesturing with a shovel sized hand.
"Eat with me, mm? No strings," Sure, she'd probably trust him more if he accepted the money, but it just seemed wrong.

Akari would, upon being told to put the money away, extended her arm a little further, as if trying to insist, the person would, right after, tell her to eat with him, no strings attached. SHe would hurry in to the little secluded area, sitting down and hungrily staring up at the grill, her eyes sparkling with wonderment at the prospect of freshly grilled food. No cold dumpster left overs this time. Akari's stomach growled and she went red in the face while covering her mouth with one hand, the other holding on to her stomach. "Thank you, thank you so much.
Akari would never have been to any of those food functions that Yasashi would have operated. No, she tended to avoid them like the plague. Because people would ask questions, police might be there volunteering, and they would report it all, and it would go bac up the grape vine to her father. So, Akari had to avoid free food offered by functions like that. She didn't know he was thinking that, nor what it was he was looking at her like that for.
While waiting for the food to be finished, she would speak to him, "I'm sorry, for scaring you like that. I didn't mean to come up to you so fastly. I just smelled the food, and I thought about how I haven't had food to eat in like, three days." Was it that bad for this girl? ANd the way she talked, like she was trying to find bigger, more adult words to use, but, couldn't find the right words and resorted to talking like this? Was she uneducated? Who was she? It was hard to say, considering they just met, "My name is Akari, it is nice to meet you."

Yasashi raised an eyebrow, Three Days? Resting his arms on his knees he watched her a little bit while the food finished cooking. He reached out and turned over the cutlets once, twice, three times before he found himself satisfied with their state of cooking. He'd been working on a new method recently; different coals and some pre-rub to add to the flavor. More important though was the mineral bath the rested the meat in before hand to add an extra level of nutritional value. He skewered a few pieces of meat after cutting it. He was quiet while she spoke, his eyes not moving over to her very often. When she was done speaking he placed it in her hand.
"Eat slow, Akari," He said with a gentle firmness. "There's time to talk after you eat," He said, turning back to the fire and grabbing a few more pieces to skewer. He didn't look up as he spoke.
"Yasashi is my name, Taka," He scratched his nose and smiled, "Gentle Bird of Prey is how it's written; my mom's sense of humor," He said casually and let out a bit of a barrel laugh. He took a bite of his food. The flavor was good, better than what you'd find at a cafeteria or restaurant, but he wasn't satisfied, the finer notes had been diluted by the mineral bath. He was loathe to sacrifice flavor, but the nutritional boost Akari might get from this was something he had to consider too.
He stopped for a few more moments and looked out at the water before glancing over and down at her tiny frame. "Hmmh..." He exhaled through his nose. "I'm not going to ask you your story, Miss Akari. Eat your fill and rest as much as you can," He said and then finally let out a big laugh, trying to lighten his own spirits as much as hers. "Bahaha! Gotta say you did surprise me! I hope my little helpers didn't make you uncomfortable!" He joked, flexing his arm and making a bony arm extend from the ground a few steps away. It waved before dissolving. | 365 Words

The moment he gave her the food, she nearly tackled it and devoured it like a ravenous animal. But she was told to eat slow. Holding the steak with her bare hands, she didn't mind, she would just start biting in to it and tearing it apart, but, at a pace that it wouldn't upset her stomach. her eyes already welling up with tears. The food was good, yes, but that wasn't why she was crying. She hadn't eaten in nearly half of a week, yes, but, that still, was not why she was crying. She was enjoying time to herself for once, actually not being harassed by the police, but, that was not why she was crying. She was crying because her mind was going to the thought of if this was okay to do. She was worried she was going to get in trouble with her father for this.
As she ate, he introduced himself, talking about how his name was written. It had been a long while since she wrote her name down, sure, she knew how to write it, but, as she would listen to him and finished her steak, she would try to think about how her name was written again. She hadn't had the need to in so long, and there were so many kanji for it.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. Your quirk is cool." She marveled at how it looked. To her, there was nothing that made her uncomfortable with quirks, other than fire ones.
She would try to write her name down then Aka and Ri, or, was it A Ka Ri? She must have written down the kanji, sloppily, very bad hand writing, to many different combinations, pulling her knees up to her chest as the frustration was clear on her face.

He watched her face out of the corner of his eye, chewing his own food slowly. Those naturally piercing eyes of his softened a bit when the tears began to run down her face. He wondered what she might be thinking, the trembling of her shoulders, the dilation of her eyes. Fear? He'd seen fear before, he was intimately familiar with it. He looked away when she glanced at her, making a playful face as if trying to pretend that he wasn't watching her. Just little teasing motions to get her mind off of her problems, even if it made her indignant, that was better than whatever heart wrenching sensation she was feeling.
That playful expression turned to surprise when she spoke, his head flicked in her direction and his control slipped. A plate of bone grew over his jaw and cheek, curling a little under his eye as if forming part of a mask. He blinked a few times and raised his hand up to the plate, touching the hard surface and feeling it dissolve at a thought. The giant of a boy looked down at his hands. "Cool, huh?"
Yumi had approved of his quirk, she'd thought it was impressive. Hell, she'd helped him come up with his hero name after discovering him in the isolation room. Red Horn had encouraged him to keep training. Gyoza had put pressure on him to keep trying and getting better. But it was hearing a stranger, someone who wasn't even in a possible position of responsibility to him-not a teacher, a peer, a pro hero, a parent, a upperclassman-that little comment meant the world in a way she'd never know.
He couldn't stop smiling when he looked down to watch her write in the sand. Her knees pulling up to her face, her sloppy writing, her frustrated expression. He squinted, starting to understand just a little more. Hungry, alone, homeless, even scorned of an education. He smiled at her and leaned forward, trying to catch her eyes with his own. "You know... the funny thing about a name that can be written different ways, you can choose how it's written if you really want," Yasashi said, giving her a wink.
He put his finger in the sand and wrote out her name in a few different ways. "Try it, it's sand, don't worry about your penmanship." He held up his massive finger, "I mean look at this thing! I won't be doing any calligraphy with it that's for sure!" He laughed. | 430 Words NOTES

"Red...flower...I'm a red flower? I think?" She tried to focus and think about that, steam almost coming out of her ears at the thought of it. SHe just scuffled it away and went back to looking at him. "What are you making food out here for?" SHe would ask while sitting up right, interested in what Yasashi was doing out here.
She had her reasons, she was looking for anything to pick up to sell at a recycling center. Had she known he was a student though, she might book it with what little energy he had. SHe got one student in trouble, she didn't need to get another in trouble, considering she just wanted to get in to UA, but someone was keeping her from doing it.
When he mentioned writing in the sand more, he said a word she didn't understand. Her head would tilt a little. "What's Call graph ee?" Well, she didn't have an education, but, to go that far? How long has she been out of school? How long has she been on the street? Why has no one offered to help her out. Why has no one bothered trying to help her out?
Akari had it rough, she was harassed and abused from the sidelines, not physically, but economically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. Someone wanted to hinder her, keep her as down as possible.
"Do you mind if I stay here? It still smells nice, though, I might get hungry again soon smelling it." SHe said while poking her index fingers together.

Yasashi nodded appreciatively at her name his smile widening when a flush came to her face. That was cute! He laughed and slapped his knee, stopping only to listen to her question. He nodded once or twice when she asked before he gestured over to the small grill being manned by the skeletal hands.
"It's a quiet place, where I can sit and think a little," Yasashi said honestly, staring out at the sand and surf that crashed quietly against it. He drew his knees up to his chest and watched the surface of the water for a few seconds before glancing back at her. "When I was a little boy the work my mother did scared me, so I came here to cool my head, the water has a good sound."
Her next question struck him a little bit, how far had she been held back? Was this the work of others or was she simply homeless? Her ignorance wasn't upsetting or offensive, nor was it insulting. It was sad. Yasashi considered the food grilling nearby for a moment before looking over at her. "Do you have a place to stay the night?" He asked, "You don't have to be specific or tell me anything you don't want to," He nodded toward the water and then broke into a smile when she made her request.
"Of course you can, do you need anything?" | 249 WORDS NOTES

How far HAD she been held back indeed! Akari had been on the streets for almost five years at this point, living on her own and working to not get caught doing anything. Looking up at him as she was told why it was that he was here, and that his mother was scary, "Your mother? She's not a villain is she? That's the scariest thing I can think of." She said while listening to the water. It did sound nice.
When asked if she had a place to stay, she stood up proud and put her hands on her hips, as if she was proud to announce the following, "Yes! I made it myself! It's hidden in between four big buildings in the city!" She was of course, talking about a cardboard house. If she was asked about her place to stay, she would tell him plain and simple, she got the walls out of an office building trash box, meaning dumpster, and that the floor she got out of a restaurant's. The tarp that's hanging up over it she got out of a furniture store trash box. It had a few holes, but, she got a second tarp to cover the holes on the first, so there was no risk of her house becoming wet and melty, which, she meant soggy.
"Do I need anything? Um, I need to find empty cans and bottles on the street. So I can go take them to the place to give them and get money for." She was here to scavenge recyclables? Just to make a minor amount of money off of?
Akari would, if explained about Yasashi's home and family, refuse to go with him, only if she was told there was a hero in his household. She didn't like heroes, despite wanting to be one.

Yasashi sat quietly and looked out at the sea, his kind eyes crinkling a little bit. He rested his elbows on his knees and relaxed. It'd been a long while since he had really enjoyed a quiet moment with another human being. Even if it was a relative stranger. His constant training at UA had put him through a lot of stress and it was nice to rest his mind. He laughed when she mentioned his mother; "Oh no!" He laughed, and held up a finger to his lips; "My father was though, he's retired now. Does house work and taught me to cook," He laughed, winking before looking back out at the sea.
"No, my mother is a Pro Hero," He said, looking down at his hands, "...It's a... lot to live up to..." He said openly before catching himself and clearing his throat. Thankfully she was going on about where she was living. He felt an ache well in his chest when she described her home to him. Hidden between buildings. He tried to resist the urge to pity her.
"I can bring you some cans if you like. There's plenty back at the dorms. My classmates go through them like crazy! Bahahahaha!" Yasashi chortled, trying to grasp at his good humor. | TAG WORDS NOTES

The moment he had mentioned his mother was a pro hero, she silently got up, and just walked out of the little hidden cave. Her head down as she tried to quickly obscure herself from being viewed. If he followed, she sped up, and if he tried to speed up after her, she slowed down, already out of breath from lack of nutrients and exercise. And he was a UA student. Of course.
In her mind, he was gonna try to get brownie points for reporting her to the authorities. He wanted to get ahead in life, and she was gonna stay where she was. That's what she thought. If there was someone that was not to be trusted, it was the very thing she wanted to become.
For Akari, she wanted to be a hero, but she didn't trust them because of her criminal record.
When Yasashi eventually caught up to her, she was pulling her jacket up over her head, crouched over on the sand, the jacket hiked up over her back as a result. "I'm sorry I bothered you, pleaase don't report me. I promise you won't see me again. I'll pay for the steak, I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry!" She stammered off quickly, she wasn't afraid of his quirk, she already showed that. She was afraid of getting in trouble, but for what?
She was a terrified thing in need of a home, in need of help, and in desperate need of food to get through the winter.

She got up without speaking which immediately drew his attention. She just... walked out. His eyes widened, confusion hitting him like a bat to the back of the head. Had he said something wrong? He got to his feet, moving after her, calling out now and then. His legs pumping while he tried to keep pace. Even so, it didn't take long for her to run out of energy, she was barely holding herself together, to begin with. He stormed forward, reaching out before he found her around a bend; crouched, her jacket over her head...pleading him, begging for forgiveness.
"Sorry?" Yasashi demanded, a bit of heat rising in his chest. "For what?" He asked, gesturing around him and dropping to a knee; "For eating? For breathing? For having a chance to rest? For giving me company and a good conversation?" He rattled off, counting the points on his finger before looking at her hard. "...what happened to you?" He asked, reaching out and hesitating at first before placing a gentle but firm hand on her shoulder.
"I'm not going to turn you in, I'm not going to hurt you, and I'm not going to report you..." He said, his words as firm as iron. "But I want something in exchange..." he paused, "You need to tell me everything, and you need to let me help you," He said quietly; gently, almost sadly, "I can't help someone that doesn't want it..." | TAG WORDS NOTES

She almost jerked away the moment the hand went to her shoulder. The last time someone touched her an a corrupt officer saw it, she was given another charge of harassment with misdemeanor assault. Akari had been conditioned, in the worst way possible. A Pavlovian case of expecting the worst out of everything good. Affection meant being hurt. More money than was acceptable was frowned upon. Clothes meant she stole them. Homeless shelters were just havens to bring problems to other people. Going to the doctor meant having her parents contacted. And most of all, any sort of touch to a person, whether they bumped her or offered her a hand, she thought she was going to be accused of assault again.
When he asked what happened to her, she pulled her jacket over her head more, hiding her head and face completely, only to eventually be brought up to her feet. And from there, she would go back to the little hidden area that he and she shared moments ago. "Okay." She said solemnly.
In that little alcove, she would tell Taka everything he wanted to know. That, her last name wasn't allowed to be used, because she was disowned, cast out of the family. "It's not because I have a quirk. But, because I have a fire quirk. My mom, she's a burn victim from a fire quirk. And, she has post dramatic stress discord." That's not the right words, but, the meaning was there. She clearly had a problem with words, a problem with education.
She'd tell him how her father was a captain on the police force, how he went out of his way to make her life miserable for making her mother miserable. How no matter what happened though, she was trying to save up money for tuition at UA. With no education, and no ringing endorsements, and no family, she'd have to buy her way in, at least, that's what she was lead to believe, and she believed it entirely.
She'd tell him about how officers would go out of their way to work for her father and make her life harder, but, every time they did, she just kept starting back from square one. She was afraid of pro heroes because she had a juvenile criminal record with enough marks on it to warrant her being treated like an adult. She just, was sorry that she bothered him with all of this, and even pleaded, begged him to not tell anyone, she didn't want more problems for herself because she was selfish and wanted to avoid more police.

Yasashi didn't move very much while she spoke. He sat still, his eyes unmoving. There were little things that indicated how much he was paying attention; little movements of his mouth, little jerks of his fingers. Yet the most telling were his eyes. The beady ice-blue eyes seemed to glow more and more as she spun her tale. She did not say it out loud; he didn't have to, there were few things that could better describe what he felt. Rage. He pursed his lips together and took a deep, steadying breath. It was only then that he regarded her with clearer eyes. His mind spinning with everything she'd regaled to him, all of her pleas. He wrapped powerful arms around his knees and stared at his wrists for several heartbeats.
What went through his mind through those moments; no one really could say. That mind of his twisting and turning down the endless labyrinth that had been erected in his subconscious. He took a deep breath;
"...if you really do not want me to say a word, I won't," He said quietly, his eyes distant for a moment before they flicked in her direction; "But if you think for a moment I'm not going to try to help you, you're wrong," He said and leaned back against the rocky wall. "This place is my secret space, its safe, it's quiet. It's not much but it's a place where you can get some sleep. I can bring food by every now and then too. You can make it up to me by getting healthier and telling me more about yourself. The good things, it'll take time but you'll remember them, I'm sure," He finished with a smile, a genuine one, before getting to his feet and brushing off his knees.
"It's up to you though. I won't force you to stay." | TAG WORDS NOTES
