534 words Kenji knew something was up when he saw the black luxury sedan parked in front of Pink Jackal. It wasn't until he saw the people in suits that these fears were realized. Both sights set-off alarm bells. "Kenji Murano?" The child nodded. "We're with protective services. Do you have a moment?" They spoke in smooth tones, appropriately grave and sympathetic in their reports. His guardian, Mr. Carter, had been apprehended for vigilantism. It would, consequently, be necessary for them to relocate the child, since his guardian would be unable to care for him while awaiting trial. Throughout the information-dump, Kenji sat silently. His face was expressionless, his hands clasped so tightly that his knuckles were white. "You'll be staying at the Ochi Orphanage, while Carter-san faces litigations." His world was falling apart around him. Just when things were seeming okay for once. "How long will it take?" the child demanded. His tone was hard. "We aren't at the liberties to discuss that." Kenji frowned. "May I get some of my things?" "Of course." He excused himself from the table, walked silently up the stairs. Quiet conversation was left in his wake, the social workers regaling about how Kenji was in and out of the system, and how unfortunate it was that his guardian was, like his parents, a criminal. They remarked that the Murano boy wasn't likely much different. Their talk moved to other clients, to weekend plans, and then tapered off when they realized that Kenji had been gone for quite a while. "I'll go check on him. This can't be easy for him." They tread up the stairs, to the door that Kenji had slipped through. The room was empty. A faint breeze drifted through an open window. The child was gone. … The disappearance of Kenji Murano prompted a search into the wee hours. No sign of him. He could be anywhere. Especially with that wall-crawling ability of his. His trail carried dogs all over Mustafu… over walls, along buildings. The kid wound a circuitous route all along town before trudging across a creek, where his trail was lost. He hadn't strayed too far from that point, actually. He'd found a bridge, settled under it, and waited. Waited to feel something, too think of something… instead he just sat, staring at the rippling brook. Where could he go? The apartment? No, they probably had that address. What about that hideout that the water-balloon boy had? No, that kid was annoying, even by Kenji's standards. Tears pricked at his eyes, and he laid his head in his arms. Why was it always him? ๑

G was just on his way home from 'work'. His arms were a bit bruised up, but thats nothing Hana cant take care off. On his way, G also kept a vigilant eye on his surroundings, making sure no funny stuff was going on. Along the way G spotted something peculiar. He found a kid under a bridge. And this was no hobo kind of homeless kid. No no, this was a legit kid that was like... a runaway. G could tell by his clothes, and by the fact that G himself lived the whole 'runaway' story.
His curiousity piqued, he went over to the kid to see what was up. He walked over and as he got closer, got a better look of this youngling. Once close enough, G asked "Yo, kiddo. Sup? You some runaway or something?" This was important, because homeless runaways could become villains. If they have no job, they'll have to steal to survive, and from there it goes all downhill. Thats at least how it went with G. Besides, under a bridge is not really some super cool hangout place to be. Again, G would know since he was still hip with the young crowd.

HIDE AND SEEK KENJI TENSED AT THE SOUND of the voice, squinting in the twilight. It was some man, some thug-looking guy with fluffy white hair at the crown of his head. Kenji's expression hardened, keeping his arms folded and knees drawn.
The man kind-of reminded Kenji of his biological father. His attire, his mannerisms-- everything about him screamed "gangster". That made the boy trust him even less. Maybe he was a gangster-- that'd explain why he seemed so familiar...
The man wanted to know if Kenji was a runaway. That was an oddly specific question. The boy's eyes thinned, his lips pursing.
"No," the boy said flatly, "I'm just sitting."
That was the only information Kenji provided. He dropped his gaze, squinting towards the burbling water of the creek. He didn't know who the man was, and didn't feel the need to be honest with him. The last thing he needed some yakuza jerk turning him in. Whoever he was. The child picked at the worn knee of his pants, waiting for the man to leave.
He couldn't shake the feeling that he knew the man. But he couldn't put his finger on why. He hadn't greeted Kenji as "Murano" or "Slapdash" though, so it wasn't someone who knew his Dad.
Maybe... it was someone who knew Charles? The realization made Kenji's throat tighten and his vision blur.
"Do you, uh... know Charles? From the Pink Jackal?"
There was a sorrowful note to each of the questions.

The boy answered the question. So, he claims he isnt a runaway.... he was just sitting. Or so he claims. G didnt really believe the kid, but then again he didnt really have a reason to doubt him as well. Basically G was back on square one. G wondered if he should leave or stay. Then, before G could make a decision, the boy asked a question. G raised an eyebrow. Did he know of Charles. No, but he knew of the Pink Jackal
"Well, I dont know of any Charles, but I know of Pink Jackal. I was a co- owner of the place. Kasey was like a sister to me. But since we had some differences, we went our split ways. And I left Pink Jackal" he then looked at Kenji and spoke "I dont know Charles, he might be one of the people Kasey hired. I personally did my own thing and she did her thing." G explained as he shrugged.
He noticed then the kid was feeling a bit down. The boy didnt say he was down, but there were a few cues. G asked "So... whats up with this Charles? You need him for some reason?"

I WONDER WHY I'M SO LOST AND NEVER FOUND KENJI WRAPPED HIS ARMS AROUND his legs, ceasing the idle picking at the threadbare knee of his pants. The man spoke rather plainly, explaining that he didn’t know Charles, but he had—at one point—worked at the Pink Jackal. Owned it, as a matter of fact, with Ms. Kasey. Kenji had never been close to the woman, but they were on amiable terms, since she had let Kenji live there on-paper while Charles acted as his legal guardian.
Kenji rested his head in his arms, ponderous. Well, at least he recognized the man from Pink Jackal, and not from the crowd that his father had run with.
“I need him, yeah,” Kenji muttered, “But I can’t get him, you see? The cops got him.”
His tone was clearly disheartened, but the last remark cut like a knife—a hard, angry edge. For as much as he idolized heroes, his upbringing had instilled a distaste for cops in him.
“He’s kind-of my dad, I guess,” the child mumbled, watching the creek below, “Not like, my real dad, but he takes care of me. Just me and him, right? But then today, I get home from school, and Charles isn’t there. But—“
Social workers were. People to haul him off to wherever they wanted. Kenji nibbled his thumbnail, finally looking at the man who had joined him. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that Kenji really was a runaway. But the child refused to come right out and say it.

So from what G understood, this Charles, this guardian of this kid got arrested. Knowing that he worked in Pink Jackal, he knew Kasey, and thus was most likely either a Villain or a Vigilante. Why else would the police arrest him? And now this kid was alone "I see. Well, you're in a delicate situation then" G said as he pondered "You got no one, no family no guardian. So its either the streets, the social workers or an orphanage or whatever" G then shrugged
"So I see you need a solution to your problem. Something to help you avoid that fate" G speaks to the boy "I could adopt, but I already have 2 adopted daughters and a baby son. So my hands are tied there. Although, if you really need a place to stay, I can provide you to a location where people like you stay. Kids about your age. They mostly work for me and my Vigilante swag. But I guess you can stay there until you figure out a more permanent solution" G spoke and wondered if that was good He had 'minions'. Basically hooligans and delinquents he'd pick off of the streets, discipline them on good behaviour and train em. They would be his eyes and ears on the streets. They were his Skull Fam. G doubted this boy wanted to join the group, and G honestly didnt care if the kid would. It was just that G was a Vigilante, and he had to do good deeds. That was his duty.

I WONDER WHY I'M SO LOST AND NEVER FOUND KENJI FOLDED HIS ARMS AND SAID LITTLE to the man’s observation, staring at a fixed point on the path below. He was right. But any glance in the man’s direction could tip the boy over the precarious, metaphorical ledge where he now teetered. Kenji could feel his eyes wanting to well-up at the shear thought of how few options he had.
The man mentioned something about adoption, and that earned a faint, humored huff. What, the guy just met him and he was already bringing up adoption? Thankfully, the man shot his own idea down. He already had three kids. Wasn’t that just the way? The child looked at his shoes, adjusting his hat.
“Like a gang,” he muttered skeptically at the man’s offer, “A kid gang.”
Kenji frowned, finally looking at the white-haired man—the man who threw the same vibes as his Dad, to be quite honest—looking to get unsuspecting teens under his wing and into trouble. Like, sure, he called himself a vigilante, but like… it felt weird. Kenji hoisted himself up from a seated position, dusting-off his pants. He wondered if his parents had ever roped people into their organization by masquerading it as a safe-haven for teenagers. He wondered if any of their fellow yakuza had been stupid enough to fall for it.
“Pass,” the child replied, “But thanks though.”
He’d need to find another hiding spot. A better one. Without some weird, suspicious dude hanging-out in it.

Well he wasnt wrong it was sort of a kid gang. The kid passed and wanted to do something else. "Dude and where do you plan on going? Another bridge to crawl under. I did say that it was a temporary solution. Its not like you're gonna be part of that group. I pick orphans, delinquents, hooligans, homeless. Kids like that, you're homeless right? So you qualify" G said and then turned his back to the kid
"Come on, follow me. Its not that bad, and if you dont like it you can always go somewhere else. Besides, I figure you'd like being with kids your own age" G said and then started going onwards, as he went he did text some of those kids to prepare for a temporary visitor. G said temporary because he doubted this kid would permanitely join his group. G doesnt see him wearing a uniform like the others. So yeah, just a temporary dude who needs to figure out what to do in his life.
G stopped to look behind and see if the kid was following him or not. He thought to himself how this was just a weird scenario for him, he wasnt the type of guy who deals with kids very well, male ones to be exact, he always had problems with boys. And here he is, the one who has a son. Why is life so weird.

I WONDER WHY I'M SO LOST AND NEVER FOUND THE BOY'S TEMPER SPIKED AT THAT-- and for a number of reasons, really. The first and most prevalent was that the man was right. He had nowhere to go, nobody to turn to. Honestly… yeah, another bridge was probably in his future. Or maybe a drain pipe, or some alley. Kenji hadn’t exactly “done” the homeless thing before, so he wasn’t sure. He was just kind-of making it up as he went. The second reason that Kenji lost his cool was that the guy reminded him of his Dad, and he hated guys that reminded him of his Dad. And the third was that he was scared. Not that the teenager would readily admit to any of these things.
“So what if I do go to another bridge?!” the teenager griped, his voice pitching upward, “Why the fuck do you care?”
He needed to get out of here. The guy said something about taking-in kids like him all the time, but honestly the whole thing seemed suspect. Yeah, he’d seen the “kids” that people like him “took in”. Kids who were so addicted to the drugs they were running that they’d never think of leaving. Kids who died for all the stupid things that adults like this guy fought about. Kenji wasn’t going to be a part of that. Never again.
“Yeah, fat chance!” the child shouted, as the man insisted things “weren’t that bad” and that there were “kids his age”. Sure there were. Sure. There. Were. Nobody just took a little redhead lay-about out from under a bridge just because they wanted to help him out. If the man were to turn, they’d catch a glimpse of the child as he tramped down the trail and out of view behind some bushes, the falls of his worn sneakers heavy upon the hard-packed mud. The man would need to work a little harder to persuade the boy that he meant no harm, especially with how shaken the kid was.
As Kenji tramped along, his hands found a thick branch that’d been snapped-off of one of the massive oak trees overhead. It fit nicely in Kenji’s hand. If the guy tried anything stupid, the child might take a swing at him with it—it was a nice club. Kenji took an experimental swing, was satisfied with the weight of it, and carried the bat in his left hand as he continued his hasty retreat down the trail. Where could he go, where the cops or that guy wouldn’t find him?

The teen boy really didnt wanna go. Sheesh. And God. Why were teen boys such a pain. They were the biggest pain ever. Then suddenly "Fat chance!" welp... yeah.. it was one of those moments. G stopped in his tracks and looked at the kid who had a stick in his hand as if it was a club. For some reason that reminded him of Miku and her own stick shennanigans.
G sighed, audiably. He just turned his back to Kenji again, and used his Quirk. He summoned Goliath behind Kenji. The Spirit Animal picked up the boy. "I get that you're scared. I know I look like a gang leader and I know I dont look heroic nor act like it. But you gotta learn that you cant judge a book by its cover. Just relax, nothing bad will happen. Unless you getting a roof is bad" he then finally looks at the boy once more "Lemme guess, you dont believe me that Im a Vigilante, you think I wanna forcefully take you to work for me. Bruh, Im not doing that. All you gotta do is chill, ok?" G said in his best attempt to be 'friendly' to the kid. Because well... G wasnt good with boys

HIDE AND SEEK KENJI HAD PUT CONSIDERABLE DISTANCE between himself and the gangster when, suddenly, an additional reinforcement was summoned. Two massive, inhuman hands caught Kenji beneath the arms and lifted him with ease-- he wasn't exactly a heavyset boy to begin with. Kenji shouted inarticulately, legs pinwheeling as they left the ground.
"What fucking gives?!" he snarled, swinging his stick in an attempt to land a hit, any hit, on his captor. This wasn't the gangster-- these hands weren't human. Belatedly, Kenji wondered if this guy worked with his dad. A bolt of fear skittered down Kenji's spine.
Whoever had taken hold of Kenji turned so that the boy was facing them, instead. Kenji's face pinched into scowl. He was growing tired from the constant pinwheeling of his legs and attempted strikes at his captor. So instead, he glared.
Truth be told, Kenji was scared... and now that he was slowing down, his eyes began to well. He grimaced, balling his fists in frustration.
"You haven't... exactly... proved that you're a hero," Kenji argued, "You're just some weird dude under a bridge."
He sniffed and scrunched his eyes shut, trying to resist the urge to cry. He was missing the point about "not judging someone by their looks". But he wasn't exactly in the position to give anyone else a chance. Tears finally surged to the surface, and he tucked his head. He wanted Charles back. He didn't want to run from the cops, or be whisked back into the system. He wanted his own life back.
"Put me down," the boy complained. He dropped the stick, dangling like a ragdoll in the creature's grasp, "What the Hell is this, anyways?"
Kenji pulled his hat low over his eyes, rubbing it with the back of his hand.
"I can't chill," Kenji muttered, "My adoptive Dad just got arrested and they're trying to take me away again."
He was repeating himself, but apparently steadily winding-down.

"Bruh, I told you I'm a Vigilante. I'm not a Hero in the legal sense. But I'm not a Villain either." G said as he repeated and even explained. But the boy seems as if he.... cracked? He was scared. G sighed and appreached him and gave him a headpat. He then motioned Goliath to give the boy a piggy back ride.
Which is what the spirit animal did as he put the boy on his own back "That is my Quirk. And the only reason I did what I did was because you had a stick, and you wanted to hit me. That wasnt cool. Now calm down will ya? Why are you adamant about refusing help? Why cant you just chill?" G asked
The boy said he cant chill, his adoptive dad got arrested and people are trying to take him away. G just gave him another headpat "There there. Calm down. Nothing bad will happen. I'm not taking you to the goverment or whatever. And I'm not kidnapping you for god knows what. I'm just trying to give you a shelter and some company. You cant refuse a place before you've even seen it. Just trust me, come with me and then you will decide if you like or hate it. ok?" he asked

HIDE AND SEEK THE CHILD, WHO HAD DEVOLVED INTO BLUBBERING, still seemed to have enough spit in him to argue with the man.
"P-p-people can say a-a lot of things that aren't true," he told the man, "A-and if we wanna be really real, you look just like my dad, who used to say a lot of untrue things. A-and that's not even the worst of it."
The guy reached towards him, and Kenji winced, trying to squirm out of the way. A hand settled on the teen's head. Then, the white-haired man motioned to whoever had snatched him by the arms. Suddenly Kenji was hoisted skywards, and found himself firmly situated on what appeared to be an enormous bug. The forced change in perspective was enough to shut the young teen up, and he sat there uncertainly, clutching to the creature for fear of falling.
The child just sat there and snivelled as the man talked, clearly shaken and still unsure. But he noded his head. He was just going to show Kenji the place that he had, he could leave if he wanted and decide if he liked it or hate it once they were there.
"O-okay," the boy agreed. He sniffled, trying to clear the congestion that came with crying, to no avail. He rested his head against the summon, frowning at the circumstances around him.

G gave a pat on the head to the boy. And sighed. He was in a bit of a situation. The boy didnt trust him. So there was only one way to resolve things. Be truthful and take him to an orphanage. That way he can be grilled and understand that G only wanted the best for him. When he makes up his mind he can call G to pick him up and leave him at the good place
"Ok. You know what. I change my mind. Clearly you dont trust me, so Im gonna take you to an orhpanage, so you can stay a while, and if you change your mind. I will pick you up from there and give you a place to stay" G told the boy
So he motioned to Goliath to follow him to the nearest orphanage with the boy. G hated the thought of this. But what else could he do. Maybe when they get to the orphanage he can let the staff know that he'll protect this boy and maybe be his emergency contact. This boy clearly needs something. And G wants to help him. Hopefully this power move of doom would convince the boy that he is truthful with him.

HIDE AND SEEK THE BOY DIDN'T FLINCH as the man patted his head, which spoke to something. His hand was warm, and his touch wasn't rough. Kenji mopped his eyes with his his sleeve. He had tired himself out from crying and running. The man made a pronouncement, and Kenji lifted his eyes. His brow furrowed.
"You'll pick me up if I change my mind?" Kenji echoed.
He didn't really believe the man. He didn't want to go to the orphanage either, but what could he do when he was two meters off of the ground? Kenji laid his head back down, shifting his weight on the monster's shoulders. He didn't want to be anywhere else, or with anyone else, besides Charles. He closed his eyes, sighing shakily.
A wind picked-up, sending a chill up the boy's spine. Kenji's hold on Goliath tightened slightly, and he dipped his head. The sun had dipped below the horizon, Kenji's clothes were damp with sweat from running, and the shear misery of this whole ordeal was weighing on him.
"Sir?" the boy croaked, "I'm cold."
It was a pitiful sort of complaint. Kenji hadn't thought to grab a winter coat when he'd bolted from the Pink Jackal. He had only thought about getting away, and getting away quickly. Now that G had settled on whisking the boy away to the orphanage, the cold, unfeeling reality of Kenji's situation was weighing-down on him. He dipped his head into his arms.
