“Dark and gloomy…? Oh!” Tess wondered, but soon realised, what he meant. He was right on the money. An unfortunate side effect of her Quirk was that it twisted her mental state, though she was never entirely aware of its influence. It all seemed so natural that she did not realise she was being so moody until somebody pointed it out to her after the fact. She frowned a little. Fortunately, he didn’t seem to dwell on it; an explanation could come later if he badgered her.
“Haha! You really like the idea of boomerang swords, don’t you?” she chuckled. While she still understood the dangers such a use of her Quirk might pose, she could not help but agree that the concept was entertaining to say the least. In her mind’s eye she pictured Kazu’s metal striking a villain before flying back to him, though she knew her own powers were not so developed as yet. With practice she was sure she could improve the many facets of Polarity Shift - the range of its fields, the strength of its forces, the duration of its effects - and forge it into a truly heroic Quirk.
“I had some time free, so I came to Tokyo Park,” Miss Faraday confirmed: “Right now I’m not getting a lot of free time, you know, with studying and everything? And I was thinking of joining one of the school clubs. Maybe we can work this out when we meet up in class?” She pondered. “That doesn’t stop us from coming up with some ideas to try while we’re here though, right? Oh, and I’m super sorry if anything I said offended you…”

“”No no no no, it wasn’t anything major nor offensive. You simply had a lapse in character, that’s all.” He waves off her previous comments, but the fact that she apologized was a bit weird. Was this a common occurrence? Has this sort of thing managed to pop up in random and odd events causing a sort of weird disturbance? It sounds like a bit of a hassle to live with; to be negatively affected by your quirk to the point that your body or personality can change for the worse. But hey, better to change personalities and still be able to act, than to fall down on the ground snoring due to a lack of energy. Then again, it gives him a chance to have a good rest with his sleep mask.
“Besides, of course I’m excited about that concept! Imagine never losing your weapon no matter what you do with it, plus it arcs back to you! It’s ingenious if you just think about its potential.” He smirks a little, trying to hide his earnest fanboying over the possibility to recreate his favorite move from his favorite choreographed fight scene from his favorite tv show. “If you’re a bit busy, I suppose we can do a sort of test try. Hmmm...maybe...” he walks around, looking for the right open area to test out. “I guess we can try throwing it here. Let me just get a test dummy...alright.” Extending his right hand out, liquid Metal leaks out and forms a blob of Metal, then he starts shaping it into a short blunt rod. “Annnnnnnd...Stablize. Alright. We only got one shot with this. Annnnnnnd....discard.” Kaz’s body suddenly feels more tired as he disconnects the rod from his body. “Gaaaah...need to get better with that...whoooooo.” He then shows her the blade. “We can add a polarity to this blade, and an opposite one to some other article or object so it can return once thrown.” He looks at her with a small tired smirk. “Sounds good? We should get to it or else this blade will just...poof.” He then starts thinking about the whole mood switch thing. “Hmmm...does your quirk like change you depending on the polarity? Can you like, control that by making the sword negative and the other thing postive so you don’t stay...sad?” He ponders outloud.

“Phew! That’s a relief,” she beamed.
I’ve never really watched him use his Quirk before, Tess noted, watching as Kazu produced a globule of silvery steel from the strange seams in his palm and shaped it into a short rod, disconnecting it shortly thereafter. It certainly wasn’t as subtle a thing as her own, though it seemed the two of them might have shared a similar weakness. What did he call it? Something Metal? I should learn more about how it works if I’m going to be using Polarity Shift on it…
“Hm? Oh,” she smiled and rubbed the back of her head. “Yeah, about that. I have my limits. If I give things too much positive polarity I become more negative, and it makes my negative polarity become stronger when I apply it, but it weakens my positive polarity, and vice versa. I have to balance it out, else it can make it much harder for me to control and… well, you’ve seen what happens when I’m too negative!”
“You, uh, look tired, Kazu,” she stated: “Is that a drawback of your Quirk…?” In hindsight, that was a stupid question. Every Quirk had its physical limitations; even Miss Faraday’s own gift eventually ran dry if she used it too much, which oft made her apprehensive of using too much in one go. Still, the current situation seemed to favour light uses rather than anything too strenuous, but she guessed that would truly depend on the weights and distances of that which was involved in this latest test.
“Oh, right! Let’s get to it! I’ll just make the metal negative,” Tess cheered, holding out her hand to take a hold of the rod: “And, uh, I don’t know, actually. I guess I could positively charge your shirt?”

Ah yes, of course. To each power, to each gift, and to each quirk, there must be something to remind the user of their limitations. Whether it's polarity and personality shift, or metal making and tiredness, there must be something to let one know of their impending morality. If this is the price to pay to make a page in history with one's potential, then so be it! He would gladly take up that risk and pack up on sleep masks and pillows and whatever else is required to make his deactivated state less of a burden for others (well it will still be a huge burden...but at least he'll be comfortable.)
"O-Oh. Right. Yeah I'm ok-okay, just gotta take a breather, that's all. Takes a huge amount of energy on my behalf just to take this rod and separate it" He tosses it in the air and catches it. "Yeah I guess that'll work, we should probably hurry up or else the blade will just...'poof.' Well technically it disintegrates but...well you know what I mean." He hands her the Metal construct. "once you charge it, I can throw it and you can immediately drag your gloved hand on my shirt so we don't have a repeat of that rock incident. Sounds good?" Upon giving her the metal rod, she starts to use her Polarity on it. The blade starts to bubble up a little as she grabs the rod and starts making it negative, with Kaz mentally preparing himself for the few seconds of Negative Tess to pop in and deride him again for his life choices. While it doesn't really affect him that much, it's still kinda a bummer to hear people say shit about his character acting. They just don't seem to understand why he does it, and he has no real energy to correct them. Especially coming from someone who has previously shown herself to be an affable and nice person. Seriously, the contrast between the two is drastic enough that they appear like two different people. Still, better to be downtrodden and gloomy instead of the alternative, like angry and spiteful. Oh man, imagine her being super angry to the point where it disrupts her work flow, or TOO happy to the point of being unable to focus on the job. It's a gamble of sorts with these personality changing quirks.
"So...um...are you okay?" He asks the recently polarized Tess.

Accepting Kaz’s creation, Tess observed the metal. It seemed like any other metal rod, with a decent weight behind it; a good bludgeoning weapon in the right hands. That being said, couldn’t he forge it into practically any shape he desired? It often amazed her how versatile some of the more simplistic Quirks could be. Nonetheless, it was now charged, and would remain so for a short while.
“Huh?” Tess tilted her head at his question: “Oh! Yes~! I’m just fine and dandy! Never felt better!” That both was and was not a lie. Using a negative polarity had increased her internal positivity, but such a shift was both a little harder to notice compared to her regular balanced self as well as being intentionally short-lived. She quickly passed the metallic baton back to Kaz, removing the fingerless glove on her other hand in preparation for an action that would likely look as awkward as it would be effective. Hopefully this worked and Kazu would catch the rod before it just slammed into his chest.
“C’mon! Just throw it and I’ll charge you up!” she smiled, bubbling with positivity. The flicks of hair on her head stood straighter than before, both practically pointing to the clouds above. The moment that Mister Fureu tossed the rod would be the moment she dragged her bare palm across his chest, applying a positive polarity to the fabric. What happened next was… Well, that was entirely up to the person being polarised, his reaction times and the force of his throw.

Huh, not a huge change or shift in personality. Weird. Oh well, that's nice to know. Kaz nods as he readies himself. The rod is about to break so he'll have to do it now or never...or create another one but the last time he did more than 2, he collapsed on the ground. That wasn't a pretty sight to see. Hopefully this attempt wouldn't end in utter failure, he really doesn't want to disconnect his Metal from the root source again. “Alright. I’m about to throw it. You ready? We only got one shot at this." The blade's slowly disintegrating, but it's enough time to be able to be thrown. That's all he needs. "Here we go...and the finisher! Take...THIS!"
There's no real reason as to why he said 'finisher'. Perhaps he wanted to place more emphasis on this test run to make it more grander than it normally it is. Creating value for inherently mundane events is what he excels in, so perhaps it was for that reason. Or maybe he wanted to show off to Tess that his skill with the sword warrants enough attention to the point where it can be considered a finishing move. Not to be smug, but he is one of the best in his kendo dojo (not really, but...but he's doing alright). Or maybe...maybe he just said it like the big nerd he was.
The 'blade' flies off, spinning. On cue, after letting go, his shirt was applied a Polarity. Luckily she managed to ignore the ascot so it remained unaffected by the scruffing up by her gloved hand. Acting as how a light draws in a moth, the rod arcs back and spins towards him, with Kaz preparing himself to catch it-Huh that rod is coming faster than he expect-
Now, the rod didn't hit Kaz in the face. That would be cliche and obvious. Plus, the general area was in the chest so why would it strike at Kaz right in his face? That's stupid. No, it hit him in the chest AND the chin. Well it struck him in the chin then the chest, like a domino falling down in a chain reaction. He stumbles back and falls flat on his back, a bit dazed. "...O-ow...ye-yeah see, it works!" Despite the lower chin pain, this only proved to him that it was possible. "J-just some iron-ow, iroinng out, th-tha-that-that's all."

Crack! Tess winced, looking away just in time to hear the familiar crash of metal into somebody’s torso. She practically felt the poor man’s pain as his own weapon clubbed him not once, but twice, blessed by centrifugal force. Kazu’s suggestion had certainly worked but, like many other things she’d tried over the years, it seemed success also came with a few mishaps.
Well, she thought as he spoke: At least it didn’t knock him unconscious… “Y- Yeah! Well, we can work out the kinks more back at school,” Miss Faraday spoke up, offering a hand as he had done for her. She was stoked at the opportunity, but knew there would be more than a few more hurdles along the way for improving the synergy of their Quirks. Speaking of hurdles, there were still a few she had to cover. After all, what good was a hero without a proper costume or a name for everyone to know them by? Her indecisiveness on that front had been a perpetual thorn in her own side, and it was only one she personally kept putting there.
“I just kinda wish there was a way for me to apply Polarity Shift at a distance,” she grinned awkwardly. “It’s pretty useless if I can’t get to touch someone or something - and I can’t think of a good way to make my hero costume help with my Quirk. Or- Or a good hero name…! But, I guess I’ll just have to figure it out by myself, huh? I’m all up for suggestions, though! The more ideas the better, don’t you think?”
A look of realisation struck her visage.
“I- I’m rambling, aren’t I?” Blushing mildly, she rubbed the back of her head in slight embarrassment. Maybe she had overstayed her welcome, but there was no way she could be sure. Truth be told, she wasn’t entirely sure if she understood Kaz’s mannerisms and ideals all that much. Well, either way, she knew what her next course of action was to be.

Grabbing her hand, Kazu chuckles a bit as he tries to steady himself up. The rod disintegrates as he dusts himself off, still in pain a bit. He rubs his chin and lower part of his head. His jaw doesn't appear to be broken, nor is his chest. At least that's good. There's no need to get harmed in a friendly test, otherwise it might have freaked out his fellow student. That would be, as some may call it, a "dick move" to pull. Faraday starts to get flustered over it, talking about her quirk and her overall hero identity, while the chronicler of the world attempts to get his footing and focus back.
Getting his bearings, he cracks his neck a bit as she starts to blush a little. "No no no, it's always a good thing to think about the future. That just means you're just ahead on the curve. For what better purpose is there than to fulfill a grand purpose through your own potential, ow?" He coughs a bit. "There's no shaming in discussing it outloud." He smirks a bit. "Besides, you shouldn't fear about what you couldn't do. Instead, we should look on forward! This is just a test, a trial of sorts!" He sways his arms to the side. "You don't have to do it alone, as well. Several chosen ones are at your call and beckon...plus some training with some people." He clearly meant him and other fellow classmates.
"So then...all we gotta work on is the range and the overall 'blade' thing! Seems like a good roadmap to work on!" He grins a little, awaiting in anticipation when he can pull off a proper boomerang sword. "Maybe we can even make homing projectiles, or even magnet swords, or-or-or!" He stops himself before getting too much in his thoughts. "Well, that's all up to you, of course." He glances at the rock and then at Faraday. "So then...what day do you suggest we could train on?"

He’s right, Tess Faraday mentally noted as Kazu spoke, shoring her resolve. As unusual a man as Mister Fureu was, he was still quite inspiring when he wanted to be. Or, maybe he was doing it by accident out of his own hype. Somehow, he was both easy to read, and hard to comprehend. Alas, before she delved into the abyss of paradoxical personality traits, she drew her focus to his latest question.
“Um… Let’s see,” she pondered, tapping her own fingers as she counted through her weekly regime. “Sunday’s out of the question; mum would be furious if I skipped out on Sunday. Monday and Thursday I make sure to do studies. I practise Taekwondo on Wednesday after school, and Saturday I usually like to take walks. Jeez, I need to find out what days some of the clubs are on… I guess that currently means I’ve got Tuesday and Friday free?”
Truth be told, her schedule wasn’t all that cramped. Since moving to Japan, Tess’ life had been more hectic out of principle of getting used to the hustle and bustle of East Asian life; adapting her body to the traditional Japanese cuisine, getting used to the cramped commutes of the trains, and generally just trying to work on her own Japanese. Language barriers were some of the biggest one could ever encounter and, while she had certainly taken to it very quickly and from a young age, she couldn’t help but feel that she messed up some of her grammar and pronunciation here and there. Maybe, just maybe, that was paranoia rather than reality.
“Tuesday!” she chirped: “Is that alright for you, Kazu?”

Tuesday, hrm. Out of all days, why did it have to be Tuesday? How can it be that, out of all of the chosen days of the week, the one that wasn't preoccupied with previous actions performed as well as obligations...was on a Tuesday? How can it be so?! This is outrageous, this is impossible, this is-oh wait, Tuesday? Oh. Oh! For a second there, the chronicler has mistaken her english proclamation of Tuesday for the word 'Thursday.' His english is a bit shakey, so it scared him a bit that she said Thursday. Thursday he's already busy with some other stuff, and while he was alright with the notion of holding it on Friday, perhaps Tuesday was a better selection. All in all, it was a smart choice to do, and one that he cannot deny.
"Ah yes, I too enjoy walks on Saturday." Mentally skipping the notion of talking about his mom, Kaz continued. "I think you can just ask the school for the schedule, think they got that in check, although if my memory serves correctly, there may be an upcoming event for one of the clubs." He nods, trying to ponder about what club it actually was. "Well, no matter, it's good to occupy oneself with a proper schedule. Tuesday, hmm?" He waves a finger in the air, as if he were writing on an imaginary calendar. Why he didn't write on his actual book, is a mystery even to himself. "I have duties on Thursday, some gymnastics on Friday, Writing on Weds, Kendo on Monday...and misc. and studies the other days...Yes, Tuesday will work just fine for me!" He smirks a bit. "Tuesday shall be the day that we shall journey on a brand new path, the path...of teamwork!" He sways his arm to the left. "For what better purpose is there than to unite with one's fellow classmates in the glory that is surpassing one's limits, to nurture one's potential to the maximum! Soon we shall join the ranks of the chosen ones in short time!"
He closes his eyes and gleams with pride in front of Tess. After a moment, he resumes talking. "Anyway, yeah, that'll work for me. Thinking in the training facility, right?" He taps his book, trying to determine a proper place. "Suppose that makes the most logical sense." Before Tess can answer, he hands her a scrap of paper with his phone number. "No matter the end decision, just let me know through your communication device." Making a fancy hand motion, he rubs his chin and starts to go on his way. "Suppose that is all for today, hmm? You must have some other stuff to get to, right? Until the next day, Faraday. Oh, and keep practicing on your Japanese, it's pretty good, but it has some minor flubs there are then, nothing to worry about, however." Giving a thumbs up, he starts to walk away.
For a day that began in despair over no birds showing up, it ended with a well intended surprise of sorts. Just another day in the life that is being the Chronicler.

Though it certainly took him a while to get to the point, his mannerisms only serving to prolong his apparent decision, Kazu confirmed that he too was free on Tuesday. While ‘The Path of Teamwork’ certainly sounded true to their intent, Tess could not help but giggle a little at how over the top it sounded. He was definitely an amusing character, possessing an almost comic book approach to heroism from what she could decipher.
“Yes! There’s no better place, is there?” Miss Faraday replied at the mention of U.A.’s training facilities. She was about to speak further when he handed her a piece of paper - a note of his phone number for future reference - which she accepted.
“Did he just say communication device? Doesn’t he mean a phone…?” Although muttered, there was no answer. Kazu was already off on his way, but not before complimenting her Japanese. Apparently when he warmed up to people, he was quite the supportive individual, though whether or not he intended to be was a mystery in her eyes. She waved goodbye and proceeded on her own path, taking a moment to add Mister Fureu’s number to her cell as she did so.
Hopefully, in practising with Kaz, she could develop some new tricks to use in sticky situations. Maybe there was more to her Quirk than she had originally considered. Ideas, though hazy at current, were starting to form. But those ideas would be for another day.
