There was no alarm that awoke Tetsuko from her slumber on the early Kashima morning, but the Shindou girl was fairly certain something was behind her sudden awakening.
Eyes stirred to life, flickering against early light as the Shindou girl's senses slowly came to her. The first thing she noticed, aside from the morning light, was the warmth around her body, Elise's arms still wrapped around it.
Realising Elise was in the bed with her had Tetsuko recalling the prior night. It wasn't nearly as fun as the end result made it sound.
That's right, it was just the night before that... The darkness overcame Tetsuko, that the weight of it all... That the knowledge of what was gone, of what had to be done, of what could never be done, it all...
It constricted Tetsuko yet again, the darkness she'd walked out from. It was just one night of weakness in the absence of light, one night of her anxieties getting the better of her, but it still instilled her with this grand sense of regret and shame. For letting herself break like that, even for a moment.
Fortunately, Elise was still present, still embracing Tetsuko closely as she remained asleep. The ironblooded girl, with shameful visage, held Elise's hands close, wanting nothing more than to wait a bit longer until she felt confident enough to brave this new day, after a cold, dark night. Perhaps it was but a moment of weakness in a sea of strength, Tetsuko could only hope as she lay there...
However, her peace was disturbed, as the sound that had awoken her prior revealed itself once again. A gentle knocking against the entrance to her room. Someone was looking for her, evidently, but Tetsuko couldn't fathom whom right away. Her father was still in the hospital, her mother wouldn't have...
"Who is it?" Tetsuko tiredly called out, as she moved carefully from the bed, escaping Elise's grasp as the Shindou girl sat along the edge of the bed.
"Ueno."
The simple utterance clicked with Tetsuko, his presence making sense. He did have access to their home, after all, given some of his prior duties...
"Master Ueno... What are you here for?"
"Apologies if I woke you. Your Grandfather wants to talk when you can. Main dojo hall."
"OK... I'll be there..."
Ueno gave a simple utterance of understanding before the soft sound of footsteps indicated his movement away from the door. Tetsuko was somewhat glad to have found out Ueno was here, because at least that meant someone was there to take care of her mother... What her grandfather needed her for, Tetsuko wasn't sure at all.
He'd already spoken to her about her the Sports Festival, in a... A mixed bag of comments. Whatever it was, Tetsuko wasn't in any rush to get going. If it was urgent, her grandfather would have told her himself. Instead of rushing out, Tetsuko waited, sat on the edge of the bed, glancing down at the peaceful, beautiful, sleeping Elise.
Despite how complicated things still seemed to be, even between them... Tetsuko always felt blessed to have those few moments of clarity.

The sports festival had been an event that had left Elise conflicted, there were things she had learned but also certain matters which she had realized that left her in an unpleasant situation. However, it wasn't like those problems were debilitating, if anything they had opened Elise's eyes to what was important, and that in essence could be said was the reason Elise was here, within the city of Kashima, slumbering in the bed of a certain Tetsuko Shindou.
While Elise often displayed an amount of stamina that by all rights could be boasted about, the fact she had taken a trip from Musutafu to Kashima with the majority of it on foot, understandably left the young lady in a state of exhaustion, so that on this particular morning it was not her, but Tetsuko who ended up greeting the first rays of morning light. There was something comforting to be found in Tetsuko's embrace, and it had ended way too quickly for her liking, the light knock and Tetsuko's careful movements having stirred the lass lightly, but out of respect for Tetsuko's privacy she didn't decide to interrupt, merely keeping her eyes closed.
It took only a brief exchange of words before Master Ueno had made clear the reason for this disturbance: It seemed Tetsuko's grandfather needed her. It was only when she heard the softness of her knight's voice, calling out to her that Elise stirred. "If I were to say that I'm still sleeping, would you join me?" A tender whisper as Elise's arms both reached for Tetsuko's neck, gently pulling herself up and placing a tender kiss onto her lover's lips. Although it was a tender motion, the passion conveyed through it was different. Most would likely associate the word passionate with something like lust or pleasure, a motion to induce excitement, but what Elise conveyed with this action was not a desire to stir lust within her knight, rather it conveyed a pleasant warmth, the warmth of her affection and caring for the iron-blooded girl. "Just kidding~ Morning Tetsu~"
A soft yawn escaped Elise's lips after she pulled back, stretching her arms lightly into the air while climbing to the edge of the bed, taking a comfortable seat next to her lover. "Do you wish to meet with your Grandfather first? We can talk afterwards, or if you'd prefer, your most honorable and graceful girlfriend can accompany you to the meeting~" A playful wink followed at the last part, as if she was making it clear she was making a jest to lift the mood. However, she gently traced the palm of her hand over the back of Tetsuko's hand and whispered softly. "But whatever happens, know that you're not alone Tetsu, I'll always be there for you."
Indeed, that was the oath she had made on that day, the day they shared that kiss. She didn't aspire to become the greatest hero, for in her eyes none was as great as her knight. No, she would become the greatest nurse, the best doctor so that no matter what injuries her knight suffered, she would be able to save her...

Elise's sudden speaking up answered Tetsuko's question right away, in a fashion that was distinctly... Elise. For a moment, the Shindou girl's cheeks reddened, before she smiled uneasily but hopelessly at the burgundy-haired lass. "If you were, think I'd tell you to get up, sleepyhead." Tetsuko would tease back, before Elise took her in a surprise attack by wrapping those arms around her, a warm and tender kiss gracing her lips for a moment. Tetsuko had known for some time now, how easily Elise could instill this warmth within her, how this desire to be near that warmth lay within her. Just the press of their lips inspired it, inspired that closeness. "Morning, Elly." Tetsuko would say back in a light and soft tone, smiling quietely at her lover.
Tetsuko sat peacefully upon the bed as Elise took position beside her, resting her hands against the bed. Elise teased her once again, asking if she'd like to visit the grandfather first, with her attending of course. "Dunno how he'd like that after the last time..." Tetsuko uttered with a light chuckle, more of that levity and warmth setting in her core. Elise placed her hand over Tetsuko's, a comfort taking hold as Elise assured again that she'd always be there for Tetsuko... That Tetsuko would never be alone. She'd always have her...
"Yeah..." Tetsuko uttered weakly, a lump in her throat as her eyes glanced away for a moment. Yet, she intertwined her own fingers with Elise's, and leaned against the other girl... "I know..." It was kind of nice, though being beside Elise like this had Tetsuko wondering... Was it just her, or had the Germanic lass been growing a lot recently?
That aside, Tetsuko would rub her thumb over the back of Elise's hand, basking in the comfort and freedom to show this weakness, as she spoke of what to do next. "Grandfather can wait. If it was urgent... He would've said so. Anyway... You wanted to talk?" Tetsuko inquired, still closely confiding and leaning upon her lover. Whatever the topic was, Tetsuko didn't mind, she was content to just listen, to just relax like this for now. After the dark of the prior night, Tetsuko was overwhelmed with the desire to bask in the light of morning.
How strange it was, that the only person who got to see this fragile side of the iron knight, was a simple lady from another land.

Elise couldn't help but pout playfully at Tetsuko's teasing remark, a pout that soon changed for a warm smile as Tetsuko greet her in that gentle and soft tone that was reserved just for her. Elise couldn't help but giggle softly at Tetsuko's remark, nodding her head sheepishly in agreement. "This time we don't have Master Gai to help us out~" Elise mused playfully, yet Elise's reassuring words were accompanied by a deceptively careful look at her lover.
Noticing how Tetsuko uttered so weakly, the moment of hesitation, the way she looked away all seemed to betray hints of fear, and yet unlike before she actually intertwined her fingers with her own, the way she gently leaned against her made it feel like Tetsuko was actually seeking supporting, actually looking for the warmth that her guardian angel was so ready to provide.
Elise closed her eyes as Tetsuko commented about how Elise had something to talk about, that her grandfather could wait for a bit, and as she gently felt her lover's thumb caress over the back of her hand Elise thought about the best way of how to proceed. It was something that had plagued Elise's mind since the time she learned about it, a careful and delicate subject that would surely be important for them to address at some point. "Tetsu. Do you wish... to help your mother?"
It was a question that surely would come as a surprise, yet before Tetsuko could answer her Elise gently brought her finger to Tetsuko's lips. "Please let me finish first Tetsuko." the first time in such a long time that she had said her lover's name, rather than the endearing nickname she adored so much, a sign just how much of importance this conversation was.
"As you know, my mama was in charge of your mother's treatment. Yes, according to the doctors currently it is impossible to allow her to recover by conventional means." She paused for a moment, her gaze shifting sideways to the bad next to Tetsuko's feet, the bag Elise had brought along to Kashima. "Before my papa died... he was working on a research, theories, medicinal recipes, treatments. Incomplete, but they all pointed toward one purpose: Rehabilitation for people with intracranial injuries."
She paused for a moment, her expression visibly saddening. "But unfortunately the success of rehabilitation largely depends on the resolve of the patient." She gently pressed her free hand, the one that had previously silenced her lover onto the back of Tetsuko's hand as she continued.
"I been thinking Tetsu..." her hands shook lightly, a sense of nervousness rising up within her chest. "I don't wanna be a hero like everyone else at U.A, in the end we both know that already by now, right?" She smiled weakly as she continued. "What I long to be is the greatest nurse, someone who would be able to save you no matter what injuries you suffered. I'd rather inspire and support, than to fight, something I learned the hard way during the Sports Festival. I'm simply too 'nice' to be a hero."
Slowly her hand trailed, gently up to Tetsuko's chest as the palm of her hand would rest lightly against that of her lover's torso, where her heart would be situated. "And before that, I want to be your guardian angel Tetsu, the one who will always watch over you, and that includes mending the injuries troubling you 'here'." She applied a tender pressure to her hand, as if to make it clear she was talking about Tetsuko's heart.
"If... if you're alright with it, I plan to talk to the faculty of the school. My mom mentioned my father's colleagues have decided to vouch for the research, and a small research laboratory is opening in Musutafu where this type of condition is being focused upon. It's possible... they might tell me that if I can't contribute enough to the hero program that I'll have to leave the academy, but that's a price I'll be willing to pay. We can still see each other during your free time from the lectures. Mom is willing to pull some strings to allow me to intern there, I'll be able to continue my medical studies there and in time complete my dad's research. But this isn't just about my decisions."
She looked into Tetsuko's eyes and whispered softly. "What do you want to do Tetsu? I promised before: I'll always be there for you, no matter what happens, and this is 'our' future after all. I can't do it by myself, the only one who can give your mother the strength to try to stand up again is you Tetsu, so can we try it together?"
